AJ Styles Talks Learning from John Cena in WWE

WWE Superstar AJ Styles recently appeared on WWE’s After The Bell podcast. The RAW Tag Team Champion discussed a number of topics during the interview, including the megastar potential of his tag team partner Omos.

“It’s a job most of us should have after 20 years of being in the business” AJ Styles began the interview, discussing Omos and how he was positioned to help the giant adapt to working in WWE. “Just help the younger talent, just like the older talent has helped me.”

Styles then made some interesting comments regarding the legendary talent that has helped him to learn the craft of professional wrestling. “We can go back to Jerry Lynn, Christopher Daniels, John Cena.”

    AJ Styles on John Cena

AJ Styles would then note specifically why he said John Cena, even though the two only met very late in Styles’ career, once he had finally made his way to WWE. “I know it’s crazy for me to say John Cena, but I learned so much from that guy.

“It’s only right that I pass down the knowledge I’ve had to Omos, who can and will be a huge superstar in the WWE” Styles added, putting over the giant and fellow RAW Tag Team Champion.

“I have experience all over the world” Styles added. “The experience I’ve had in the Independents, Japan, and the States, it’s a little different than the WWE experience. I can’t imagine guys like Kurt Angle who started in the WWE and learned so quickly to be the best I’ve ever seen.”

AJ Styles and Omos are not currently scheduled to be part of the WWE Hell In a Cell PPV this weekend on Peacock and WWE Network.

  • Roman Reigns Tells John Cena and The Rock To ‘Stay Away’ from WWE

Roman Reigns Tells John Cena and The Rock To ‘Stay Away’ from WWE

Universal Champion Roman Reigns recently made some incendiary in-character comments towards two of WWE’s biggest names of the past, The Rock and John Cena. Speaking to ESPN’s SportsNation, the ‘Big Dog’ would warn the former WWE Champions to stay away from the company and his Championship.

Yeah, that [a match with The Rock] is a dream for a lot of our fans, but it ain’t a dream of his, you know what I mean?” Roman Reigns would begin. “I get a lot of this with both Dwayne and John. These guys are doing very well for themselves, there’s no question about it.”

“If I were these guys, I don’t know if I’d wanna come back and deal with me” Roman noted. “I am a problem right now for everybody. If I were them, I’d stay on set and keep pumping out these streaming service movies.”

    Reigns vs Cena

It’s currently being rumored that WWE are looking to bring back John Cena for a match at SummerSlam. With the company wanting to make this year’s Summer event the ‘WrestleMania of 2021,’ the plan is reportedly to get Cena in the ring with Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship.

Roman is defending this weekend against Rey Mysterio, however the plan for Cena vs Reigns is likely to go ahead if John Cena is available. The match is probably the biggest box office draw that the company could put together right now, arguably with Rock vs Reigns being the only other match that could fill out a major stadium.

  • John Cena Says Movie Roles Show He Can Be A Heel in WWE

John Cena Says Movie Roles Show He Can Be A Heel in WWE

Roman Reigns went from the top babyface in WWE to the top heel when he turned on the fans last summer. It was a move many wondered if John Cena would make during his time as the top good guy in the company. It never happened, however.

Cena recently spoke to Chris Van Vliet about portraying a “bad guy” in Fast & Furious 9. According to Cena, his role in the movie shows it is possible for him to play the antagonist.

“I think this is a beginning to showcase the fact that it’s possible,” Cena responded when asked if F9 was the heel turn fans never saw in WWE. “Now as WWE invests and builds its roster and has a wealth of talent, it truly has many different anchors to the ship.”

Cena named Roman Reigns as being a “very marketable” and “definitive” star.

“I think the reason for me not exploring that side is because WWE didn’t feel confident that they had an alternative. I respect that business choice I really do. But now with them really laying the foundation for their future, I mean even for life in the next decade or so, maybe but I don’t know.”

Fast & Furious 9 premieres in the United States on June 25th. It was released for some international audiences, including the country of Taiwan, last month, however.

John Cena Reveals The Biggest Lesson He Has Learned From Vince McMahon

John Cena learned a lot from Vince McMahon during his 15 years long run as the top star and face of WWE but the most important lesson he learned from the boss is very simple.

The 16-time world champion recently had an interview with Chris Van Vliet to promote Fast & Furious 9 where he talked about a number of things.

He was asked about the biggest lesson he has learned from Vince McMahon. Replying to the question, Cena first said that he continues to learn from the boss, before revealing the most valuable thing he has learned from Mr McMahon:

“I think the most valuable of all the lessons is just show up and deliver. And that’s something he doesn’t say, it’s something he does. All the time. He’s always there. He’s always invested. People can question his creative motives or whatever they want. It’s creativity, there’s always going to be opinionated.

He’s always boots on the ground. He’s always invested” said John Cena, “And he always believes and is passionate about the product and I think just showing up and delivering, that’s a huge takeaway.” (Quotes: SEScoops)

The former world champion was also asked if he feels excited about returning to WWE in front of the fans. He said that he is excited for the WWE performers.

John claimed that he thinks he wouldn’t have done very well in the environment without an audience. He is happy for WWE to have crowds again and happy that all the talents can enjoy that feeling once again.

  • John Cena Avoids Question About Appearing At SummerSlam

John Cena Avoids Question About Appearing At SummerSlam

There are many rumors about what big stars will be returning to WWE in the near future. One is that John Cena will return to WWE at SummerSlam on August 21st, possibly for a huge main event match with Roman Reigns. Cena was asked what he is doing on August 21st during a recent media appearance to promote Fast & Furious 9.

Cena was asked if he has any plans for August 21st, the date of this year’s SummerSlam in Las Vegas.

“Hopefully, enjoying the summer I don’t know,” Cena responded.

“In Vegas perhaps?” he was then asked.

“What’s in Vegas?” Cena asked in response.

“I heard there’s something called SummerSlam.”

“Oh *laughs* that was a good way to do that,” Cena admitted.

Will John Cena Be At SummerSlam?

WWE appears to be going full throttle trying to get big stars to appear at marquee events throughout the remainder of 2021. In addition to the rumored Cena vs Reigns match at SummerSlam, there are also rumors WWE is hoping for The Rock to return at Survivor Series. That could also possibly be for a match against Roman Reigns.

Cena missed WrestleMania this year due to his filming schedule. He noted during an interview this spring that his schedule opens up around July, however.

“Currently, I’m in Vancouver shooting Peacemaker, the series for HBO Max,” Cena said earlier this year. “Given the quarantine regulations, if I were to leave Canada, upon return I would have to quarantine for another two weeks. Essentially, that would shut production down. Strictly based on the letter of the law right now, there is no logistical way I can be there. We film now until July.”

  • John Cena Had Ring Gear Made For His Heel Turn

John Cena Had Ring Gear Made For His Heel Turn

Former WWE writer Matt McCarthy recently talked about John Cena on his We Watch Wrestling podcast. He revealed how close the cenation leader was to a heel turn in the company at one point. McCarthy was talking about the time when the former world champion was still a full-time performer.

Vince McMahon was trying to figure out a way to incorporate some heelish qualities in his character but not turn him completely. However, the Hollywood star wanted to do a complete heel turn. He was committed to the idea to a point where John Cena even had new ring gear made for him:

“Vince kept trying to figure out how do we do like a Bret Hart thing? Where he’s a heel in some places, but he’s a babyface in the rest of the places. Cena was like, ‘If I’m going heel, I want to go full heel,’ and it did get close enough to the point where, and I’m sure he still has this gear, like Cena had gear made for the heel turn, you know? No longer the jorts. I don’t know what the gear was, but he had specific gear made ready and waiting.”

Though as we know the heel turn never happened. Revealing the reason behind it, Matt explained that the company cooled down on the idea after they couldn’t reach an agreement. The officials decided that a heel turn wouldn’t change things for Cena. So it was best to keep things as they were:

“And then obviously we know it never happened, and there was a point in the discussions where it was like, ‘Well, the people who are gonna cheer him are going to continue to cheer him and the people who are gonna boo him, are just gonna keep booing him.’ So the thinking was, that’s the most heelish thing he can do is to stay that white meat, smiling, pure babyface…”

John Cena has since moved on from his role as the face of the company. After a 15 year-long run at the top, the former champion now only makes sporadic appearances for the promotion. Although he is expected to make a return very soon. Latest reports suggest that we may see the former US champion competing in a big championship match at SummerSlam.

  • Kurt Angle Reacts To John Cena WWE Return Rumors

Kurt Angle Reacts To John Cena WWE Return Rumors

WWE Hall of Famer and Olympic Gold Medallist Kurt Angle has reacted to the news that John Cena may be returning to WWE in the near future. It was recently reported that WWE are looking to bring Cena back for the first SmackDown event to take place in front of a live audience in July.

It was also recently reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that people within WWE have talked about Roman Reigns vs. Cena as a top match for SummerSlam. This would be a marquee bout for the company to promote as they welcome back fans in attendance full time for the first time in over a year.

Although the idea is potentially Cena vs Reigns, Kurt Angle has put the idea out there that he himself may return for one final retirement match against John Cena.

Kurt Angle on John Cena Match

“Hearing rumors about @JohnCena going back to @wwe” Kurt Angle would write on Twitter. “[It’s] got me rethinking about my retirement match, like…………”

Although Kurt Angle retired back at WrestleMania 35, he still appears to want that ‘one final match.’ The bout against Baron Corbin that Angle had at that Mania show did make sense in storyline.

However, it was arguably one of the most anticlimactic ways to finish the career of the pro wrestling great.

Whilst Kurt Angle is not able to perform at the level he could a decade ago; a potential final bout against John Cena, who himself had his first WWE televised match against Kurt Angle, would at the very least be intriguing.

Would you like to see Kurt Angle have one final match in WWE? Let us know in the comments

  • John Cena Rumored For Headline Match At SummerSlam

John Cena Rumored For Headline Match At SummerSlam

There has been some chatter within WWE about the current universal champion Roman Reigns possibly defending his title against John Cena in the main event of SummerSlam this year.

WWE recently announced their return to touring for July. The cenation leader’s comeback has been in discussion for the company’s first show back on the road which will the July 16 SmackDown from Houston.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is now reporting that people within the promotion have talked about Reigns vs. Cena as a top match for SummerSlam, though nobody has been able to confirm if this is the plan.

On a related note, the Observer claims that despite their ongoing feud, there are currently no plans for Jimmy Uso to challenge for the universal championship at the upcoming Hell In A Cell PPV.

There is no word yet on who could be Roman Reigns’ opponent for the PPV if not his cousin. Though Paul Heyman recently teased Shinsuke Nakamura as a potential future opponent for the tribal chief.

John Cena has faced the current champion in a one on match before. The two squared off at the No Mercy PPV in September 2017 and the big dog came out victorious in that bout.

What do you think about a potential Roman Reigns vs. John Cena rematch main eventing the SummerSlam PPV this year?

  • JBL Reacts To Recent John Cena Controversy and Backlash

JBL Reacts To Recent John Cena Controversy and Backlash

WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) recently reacted to the backlash that John Cena has received. The former World Heavyweight Champion took to social media to praise the character of Cena, saying that he ‘stands with him.’

Cena recently took part in interviews as part of promotion for his new film, Fast & Furious 9. The former WWE Champion referred to Taiwan as a country during the interview, leading to Chinese outlets and media demanding that he apologise for the incident.

John Cena did in fact release an apology video, speaking in Mandarin, hoping to try and clear up the situation.

“Hi China, I’m John Cena. I’m in the middle of Fast & Furious 9 promotions. I’m doing a lot of interviews. I made a mistake in one of my interviews,” Cena began. “Everyone was asking me if I could use Chinese… the staff [of the movie] gave me a lot of information, so there was a lot of interviews and information.”

    JBL on John Cena Apology

“I made one mistake, I have to say something very, very, important now. I love and respect China and Chinese people. I’m very, very sorry about my mistake. I apologize, I’m very sorry. You must understand that I really love, really respect China and the Chinese people. My apologies. See you” John Cena concluded.

Reacting to the backlash that Cena has received since making the apology to China, JBL would praise the multiple time WWE Champion. “John Cena has granted over 600 Make a Wishes-a record. Supported cancer research, rise above hate campaign, a million of his own dollars for racial equality.”

“He has fought tirelessly for equality” JBL added. “An incredible track record of making the world better. I’ll stand with this guy” the former World Heavyweight Champion would conclude.

  • CM Punk Trolls John Cena For His China Apology

CM Punk Trolls John Cena For His China Apology

CM Punk showed his support for Taiwan on the same day that John Cena was trending on social media and made headlines for a recent mistake he made.

Cena got backlash and had to issue a video apology to fans in China after he referred to Taiwan as its own country during an interview to promote the Fast & Furious 9 movie.

Some people weren’t satisfied with Cena’s apology as they want him to state that Taiwan is a part of China. He hasn’t done that just yet.

Punk changed his Twitter bio and wrote, “Taiwan is a country.” There is no other text in the bio, but did alert people with a post on the account by writing, “New bio!”

It should be noted that people in mainland China believe self-ruled Taiwan is an indispensable part of the country instead of being on its own. China has used its influence to monitor speech regarding Taiwan, which has caused political issues.

The film had its global premiere in Taiwan as Universal Pictures made the decision then to have it be released a few days later in mainland China.

“F9” will be released on June 25th in the United States. The plot reads like this, “Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and his family must face against a new deadlier enemy in the form of Jakob (Cena), Dominic’s younger brother, as well as their old threat Cipher (Theron).”

  • John Cena Apologizes To China For Calling Taiwan A Country

John Cena Apologizes To China For Calling Taiwan A Country

John Cena has apologized to China for calling Taiwan a country during a recent media interview to promote Fast and the Furious 9. The island is self-governed but China has claimed the territory despite this for over 70 years.

China pushes back on international messaging that involves Taiwan being referred to as an independent country and John Cena is the latest to experience this. Cena did an interview with local media in Taiwan and mentioned that it will be the first country to see the film.

“Taiwan is the first country that can watch F9,” Cena told the broadcaster in Mandarin.

Today, Cena took to China’s Weibo social media platform and delivered a message in Mandarin. He did not refer to Taiwan by name but spoke about having done a lot of interviews and having “made a mistake.”

“I’m sorry for my mistake,” Cena said. “I must say now, [it’s] very, very, very, very important [that] I love, and respect even more, China and the Chinese people.”

Several airlines recently changed how they refer to Taiwan as a flight destination/route. This was in response to complaints by the Chinese government as well.

“Like other carriers, American (Airlines) is implementing changes to address China’s request. Air travel is global business, and we abide by the rules in countries where we operate,” American Airlines spokeswoman Shannon Gilson told CNN

The Response To John Cena’s Apology

CNN translated several comments from viewers on the Weibo platform responding to Cena’s comments.

“Please say ‘Taiwan is part of China’ in Chinese, otherwise we will not accept,” one person wrote.

“I don’t understand why the Chinese people should be so tolerant to him, who has a vague political stance while profiting from Chinese people,” another wrote.

Jim Ross Recalls Discovering John Cena & Vince McMahon’s Initial Reaction

For many, Jim Ross is wrestling. His voice is synonymous with the sport. What many also don’t know is the scope of his influence behind the scenes, as a scout for new talent.

Talking in a recent interview with Sportskeeda, Jim Ross talked about his life in wrestling. Including talking about finding the one and only John Cena.

Love him or hate him, John Cena is a name almost as heavily linked to wrestling as Ross himself. However, you don’t become the face of a company overnight.

Discussing his firsts meeting with John Cena, JR said, “John was up in Southern California, working part-time in several jobs; moving company, truck driver, just a litany of things, while he was training with Rick Bassman in UPW in Southern California.”

It is quite ironic that Jim Ross was not even in So Cal to scout Cena, but rather, another wrestler, who Ross can’t even remember.

Talking to Cena, one conversation was all it took. Ross was sold upon hearing Cenas background. Cutting his trip short, Ross shot back to Connecticut.

“I remember I took the red-eye that night, LAX to New York City,” Ross explained. JR was excited to tell Vince McMahon about his find. However, Vince’s initial reaction is a head-scratcher.

“I think I saw a kid that will headline WrestleMania in five years or less.’ Vince said, ‘I think you need to go home and take a shower. You’re delusional.’”

The rest his history. John Cena carved himself a stellar career in the ring, and Jim Ross continued to his streak of finding the best talent around for WWE.

  • John Cena’s WWE Return Reportedly In Works

John Cena’s WWE Return Reportedly In Works

John Cena might be returning to WWE in near future.

After more than a year without fans and being restricted to one location, WWE recently announced their return to touring with a big 25 city tour in July.

In an update to the touring plans, F4wonline is reporting that the company is discussing John Cena’s return for their first show back on the road on July 16.

The Cenation leader has been away from WWE programming since his Firefly Fun House match with Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36 last April.

Though John Cena had expressed interest in a comeback during a recent interview saying that he ‘really, really’ wants to get back to WWE and he wants the audience to return as well.

The company’s 25 city tour will begin with the July 16 episode of SmackDown in Houston. It’s expected to be followed by the Money In The Bank PPV from Fort Worth on July 18 and Raw from Dallas on July 19.

There is no word yet on if Cena’s return is going to be a one off thing or if he is gonna make more than one appearances but the possibility of him wrestling for the promotion is thin.

Stay tuned for more updates on the story.

John Cena Recalls Bizarre Firefly Funhouse Match From WrestleMania 36

WWE Superstar John Cena recently spoke to Den of Geek. The future WWE Hall of Famer discussed a number of topics during the interview, including the creation of the Firefly Funhouse match.

The Funhouse match of course took place back at WrestleMania 36. The concept was brought together due to the COVID-19 pandemic meaning that 2020’s ‘Mania event had to take place in the WWE Performance Center. The Fiend Bray Wyatt and John Cena took part in the cinematic ‘match,’ showcasing the history of Cena’s career and throwing in some subtle (and some not so subtle) hints to the audience.

“The Funhouse match was something I hold very close to me” John Cena began during the interview. “Maybe that’s another 45-minute interview for another day, because that was kind of thrown in my lap at the last minute.”

    John Cena on Firefly Funhouse

“I remember specifically asking what a Firefly Funhouse match was. And the answer was literally, ‘we don’t know’” Cena continued, noting how creative he and Wyatt had to get for the concept to work. “In most performers that would cause panic, but I was just riveted by the open field that we could possibly create something special.”

“And like you said, it took a lot of brave folks and a lot of hard work to make something that hopefully the audience understood” Cena noted. “At least if it reached one, we reached you and that’s good.”

  • John Cena: “I Really Want To Get Back To WWE”

John Cena: “I Really Want To Get Back To WWE”

Fans are still waiting to see John Cena and he seems to be ready to see them as well.

The former WWE Champion was recently interviewed by Den of Geek. During it, he was asked whether he thinks he could top the Firefly Funhouse Match if he returns to WWE.

This marked his most recent match, which came against Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36 last year.

“I don’t think it’s about topping what you’ve done. I think it’s about correctly continuing a narrative. And I think that’s the most important thing.”

He continued by talking about his accomplishments and how he went from main eventing Mania’s with The Rock to working his way down the card. He talked about finding a real sense of satisfaction contributing where he could and there only being one top spot in WWE.

Cena then switched his discussion to wanting to get back to WWE.

“I believe a spot is a chance to contribute. So it won’t be about that. It will simply be if there is an enthralling and correct continuation to the narrative. I really, really want to get back to WWE. I really want audiences to get back to WWE. Heck I’m with everybody I think around the world saying I just want the world to get back to normal, but these are interesting times and I have a lot of interesting opportunities at my feet, and I really do appreciate the WWE universe understanding that after so many years of…”

Cena did get fans talking with this post on Instagram with no caption last week despite there not being any reports about when he could return to the company:

John Cena’s ‘Peacemaker’ HBO Max Show Premiere Details

WWE Superstar John Cena has spent the past few months filming the new Peacemaker series for HBO Max. The former WWE Champion confirmed earlier this year that he could not attend WrestleMania 37 due to the schedule for the Suicide Squad spin-off, due to the travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cena has been active in terms of Hollywood over the past few years, with F9, part of the massive Fast & Furious franchise, soon to be released. The new Suicide Squad film, the precursor to the Peacemaker series, will be arriving on August 6. That day will see the new film available on HBO Max and in Theaters.

    John Cena in Peacemaker

The director of both Suicide Squad and Peacemaker James Gunn recently answered fan questions as part of an Instagram Q&A. Gunn confirmed that Cena’s new HBO series will be available to stream in January 2022.

With John Cena now seemingly finished with filming, he may be available for a return to WWE. Cena recently posted an image of the WWE logo to his own Instagram, leading fans to question if it’s just another one of Cena’s odd social media troll jobs or if he’s really looking to return.

A possible destination is SummerSlam, with WWE looking to re-introduce full crowds from that show onwards.

Karrion Kross Wants To Work With John Cena

Cena has also been targeted by Karrion Kross as of late. The NXT Champion has been stating in interviews that he would like to face Cena in the ring.

“John Cena would be the match that would I be interested in for the immediate future,” Kross responded. “Everyone has already called out The Rock and Brock Lesnar, and everyone has exercised interest in seeing Scarlett and myself vs. The Fiend and Alexa Bliss,” Kross said in an interview with BT Sport.

“But having the opportunity to work with John Cena on a big stage, hopefully with people, would be awesome. I think it would be a battle of two generations. I attribute a lot of my modern-day inspirations to his generation. I’ve never met the guy before, but it’s very easy to see that he’s one of the hardest working people in the history of this industry. He’s the reason why a lot of us have jobs today. Personally, it would be an honor to work with him.”

Paul Heyman Reflects On John Cena’s ECW One Night Stand Performance

In 2006, at the second ECW One Night Stand PPV, Rob Van Dam defeated John Cena to win the WWE Championship. The atmosphere inside the arena that night was intense and Cena played into the negative reaction he got that night. Paul Heyman recently spoke to Metro UK about Cena’s performance on the show.

“John Cena feeds off of the interaction with a live audience like very few people on the face of the planet in history ever have, ever could, ever would, or ever have the ability to generate that level of passion from a live crowd,” Heyman said.

Cena threw his t-shirt into the crowd as he normally does during this show, only this time the ECW faithful tossed it right back at him.

“I think John Cena, to this day, loved every single micro moment of it.”

“Anybody that says that they wouldn’t cherish the opportunity to work with John Cena on any level is a fool,” he continued.

Heyman continued to reflect on the ECW shows in 2005 and 2006. He also reflected on the type of atmosphere the promotion regularly had before going out of business.

“Everybody talks about the atmosphere of Rob Van Dam versus John Cena at the 2006 show, or The Sandman’s entrance at the 2005 show, or the atmosphere of the entire night at the 2005 show,” Heyman reflected.

“I’m happy the memories of those two shows are so vivid to so many people – and I will use the word “and” instead of “but”. And I would add to that statement – we did this every night in ECW. That was the atmosphere every night in ECW.”

“The irony of how WWE works, you could be the man or the woman in developmental, and (when you) get to the main roster, it doesn’t matter how good you are,” Tarver began on the show.

“If one of the main people there don’t like you, they will do everything they can do to bury you” Tarver added. “I got to the main roster and just got buried.”

“It was [John] Cena,” Tarver revealed, discussing who at the top of the card in WWE was ‘burying’ him. “I don’t have any heat with him now, I make jokes about it.  But there was a target on my back.  I don’t know why he targeted me, but it is what it is.”

“We ended up on good terms (but) I had to defend myself a lot” noted. “Everyone was high on me, and then all the sudden they all turned on me. People wouldn’t shake my hand, they wouldn’t even speak to me.”

“WATCH THIS NOW” Cena began on Twitter, discussing the recently released WWE 24 documentary on The Miz. “@mikethemiz IS the definition of both passion and perseverance.”

“Underrated only in the eyes of ignorance” Cena continued. “THE hardest worker I know. An inspiration to me and proof that REAL success takes earning every inch. Awesome does NOT do you justice. #Respect.”

    John Cena on The Miz

John Cena and The Miz famously headlined WrestleMania 27, with the WWE Championship on the line in the main event. Sadly, that match is regarded as one of the worst in ‘Mania main event history.

The Miz suffered from a concussion during the contest, and fans were waiting for The Rock to appear pretty much throughout. Both of these issues caused the in-ring action to be lacklustre and the tension of the Championship match to be rendered null and void.

The Rock would of course attack Cena, leading Miz to get the win in his first WrestleMania main event. It was announced the night after that The Rock and John Cena would main event WrestleMania 28 in Miami. The Miz would end up in a 12-man tag team match.

John Cena Comments On Missing WrestleMania This Year

John Cena didn’t perform at WrestleMania this year. The 44-year-old was unable to make it to the event due to his filming schedule. He spoke to the Bleacher Report about what it was like to miss the big show this year.

“We all have a window,” Cena said. “And I love listening to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin talk about his window. My goal when I stepped foot in WWE was to leave it better than I found it, and it’s really great to be able to see an event.”

“I almost had the best transition you can possibly have. My last two WrestleManias were very interesting: an almost cinematic-type match and before that I was a fan. I got to sit in the crowd and see WrestleMania. I got to see the product. I got to see a stadium full of fans and it was beautiful. I felt at home.”

Cena continued to say that he was happy to see that life after him for the WWE is thriving.

“I think it’s really special, and we all think they’re never going to go on without us. That’s not true. It’s more reassuring to me to not only see that WWE has a life after me, which is inevitable for sure, but that the life is thriving.”

“There’s so many great storylines, so many great matches. It’s called WrestleMania, not CenaMania, you know? I’ve been a part [of it], and that part is over.”

    John Cena vs John Oliver

Today is John Cena’s 44th birthday. It is also HBO’s John Oliver’s 44th birthday. That the two were born on the exact same day as been a reoccurring joke on Oliver’s “Last Week Tonight” show.

John Cena Was Impressed With Shaq’s AEW Debut

John Cena was impressed with Shaquille O’Neil’s AEW debut recently. Shaq teamed with Jade Cargill and defeated Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet at AEW’s special “Crossroads” event on March 3rd.

Bleacher Report Tweeted out highlights of Shaq and Cena both appearing on the post-game show from NBA on TNT. During the appearance, Cena commented on Shaq’s AEW debut.

“I want to say, you are one of that Mount Rushmore of sports entertainers,” Cena said to Shaq. “It’s a shame that you were born so large and so gifted on the basketball court because you could have been something in WWE, I still think you can be.”

The clip Shaq and Cena were looking at featured Shaq giving a Brodie Lee tribute and power-bombing Cody Rhodes.

“Well, I just wanted to represent your guys,” Shaq said about his performance. “Right here, giving a shoutout to the Brodie Lee power slam right there, wanted to make it look good. Listen growing up, you know, I watched you guys… Junkyard Dog, Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, I just wanted to represent you guys.”

“I think I did pretty good. I just wanted to represent you, wrestlers, because you guys are some of my favorite athletes. You know how I feel about you. I love you, big fan of yours, congratulations on everything that you’re doing,” Shaq continued.

  • Eric Bischoff Compares Cody Rhodes To John Cena

Eric Bischoff Compares Cody Rhodes To John Cena

Former WCW President and co-host of the 83 Weeks podcast Eric Bischoff recently spoke to the It’s Our House Podcast. Easy E discussed a number of topics, including which current performers he sees that could possibly ‘transcend’ the pro wrestling business.

“You guys put me on the spot here, I’m gonna give you an answer” Eric Bischoff began. “But just know that there’s a lot of people that I hold in such high regard and have so much respect for and I think are so valuable as performers and human beings. I’m gonna offend those people, I apologise.”

“If I was in Las Vegas and I had one $100 bill, and I was forced to place a bet on one person – I put it on Cody Rhodes” Bischoff continued. “Okay. I think when you talk about somebody who has the potential to transcend the business, that means to become a bigger star, or at least a star outside of the wrestling business as inside of the wrestling business.”

Eric Bischoff finished by comparing the AEW EVP Cody Rhodes to one of WWE’s biggest ever talents, John Cena. “That’s how John Cena became a big star” Bischoff stated. “Everywhere you looked, including WWE, but outside of WWE, you would see John Cena. He became that. WWE was preaching outside of the choir. And they connected with people that they weren’t connected with just on the wrestling show by using John Cena because he had that potential and ability to transcend the business in that regard. I think Cody Rhodes has the same potential.”

  • John Cena Wasn’t Too Keen On Losing To The Rock At WrestleMania 28

John Cena Wasn’t Too Keen On Losing To The Rock At WrestleMania 28

John Cena and The Rock first faced each other in the ring back at WrestleMania 28 which ended with Rock winning over Cena. The 16-time world champion had made comments at the time about part-timers in the industry who would leave WWE for endeavors in Hollywood, which provided as seeds to the feud.

Even though John Cena would lose this match, he would go on to beat Rock a year later at WrestleMania 29. Some interesting behind-the-scene details have emerged thanks to former WWE referee Mike Chioda who has claimed that Cena was exactly happy with putting over The People’s Champ.

“Had this match, you know, Rock wanted me to do it and everything, and I think John Cena had a little bit of a problem doing the job. Here is Cena, carrying the torch for the last ten years I think at that time, and he was busting him a** day in, day out. And here comes The Rock, back after so many years of being in Hollywood, and he’s got to job out to The Rock?” Chioda said on his appearance at the Monday Mailbag.

“Well, of course, the show is in Miami. The Rock is a big Hollywood superstar now, and I think there was a little heat there. I think there was a little dissension. But, you’ve got to go where the money goes. I mean, they put Rock over, and I was happy about that.”

Chioda added that both Rock and John Cena were big moneymakers and already, so it wasn’t like one of them would settle with the outcome just for the money. Chioda suggests that the issue involved ego and pride of both the wrestlers. “Like, ‘I’ve been carrying this business for the last ten years, I should go around him first, then he’ll go around me.’ ‘No, no, Rock’s going to go around you first.’ I’m sure John was pissed at Vince,” Chioda explained.

Interestingly, John Cena would later go back on his words and thank The Rock for “changing the game” for wrestlers in Hollywood. John Cena now believes that since The Rock, Hollywood has been pretty accepting of wrestlers now.

“It definitely has changed, and I think that rests on the already broad shoulders of Dwayne Johnson,” Cena said regarding Hollywood’s attitude to wrestlers in an interview last year. “He just made it acceptable to be something other than your wrestling persona. If you look at the correlation of wrestlers or WWE personalities in movies, they essentially played extensions of their WWE personality. I think Dwayne was one of the first ones to break that mold, and do it on such a grand scale that he couldn’t be ignored.”
