  • Update On Batista vs. Cena, More On Cena As WWE Champion

    source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

    — Batista’s match with John Cena at Over The Limit was originally scheduled to be a “Loser Leaves WWE” match, but changed to an “I Quit” match in large part as a result of TNA holding the very same bout in Tara vs. Madison Rayne this past Sunday at Sacrifice. Company officials also felt that a “Loser Leaves WWE” match wouldn’t be good in case Batista decided to return sooner than expected.

Regarding Batista’s future with WWE, it is being kept a secret from almost everyone in the organization.

    — To correct a story from last week, John Cena only passed 1,000 days as champion if you include his two World Heavyweight title runs with his WWE title runs. As of today, Cena sits at 915 days as WWE Champion and 105 days as World Heavyweight Champion. He would be in sixth place on the all-time list, not fifth, as Triple H has 1,148 days when both titles are included. Including both titles, Cena will pass Pedro Morales into fifth place on May 27. Morales held the WWE title for 1027 days.

  • John Cena Says WWE’s Drug Testing Policy Is Unnecessary

In an interview with Sky Sports, John Cena is asked to comment on WWE’s Wellness Program, which most notably includes drug testing. While he feels the creation of the program was the right move on the company’s part, he doesn’t feel it was a necessary one as WWE Superstars are regarded as entertainers rather than organized athletes.

“It’s nothing but a positive. I’ll be quite honest with you, it’s a company move that didn’t need to be made,” said Cena. “This is the entertainment industry, we’re not organized athletics. But the WWE made a positive effort to look after its athletes and I’m very, very happy. It was the right move.”

Cena is also asked to comment on his strenuous road schedule and whether it hurts to to “fight at least 250 times a year.”

“I guess it depends on how good you do,” he said. “On average, I would actually compare it to an American football game. It’s very intense. The action is in spurts. We fight every night. We fight Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. So, it’s like playing five American football games in five straight days. • WrestleMania 26 Rumored Card: New Matches Added

This week on RAW, we may have seen the groundwork laid for one of the top matches at WrestleMania XXVI. It’s been assumed for months that Bret Hart’s return to WWE would culminate at WrestleMania in some sort of match with Vince McMahon. Bret’s physical abilities are not what they once were due to a series of concussions and a stroke several years ago, so his physical involvement would be limited and a Street Fight match was discussed.

On RAW, Bret Hart confronted Vince McMahon and was ready to extract revenge before he was attached by none other than Batista. McMahon ordered Batista to restraint Hart and then got his own revenge on Bret Hart for something he did at Survivor Series 1997 by spitting in the Hit Man’s face. The crowd in Nashville went wild, chanting for John Cena as the show went off the air. (What Happened After RAW) The angle was red hot and unfolded with a level of excitement rarely seen on WWE television these days.

With that match looking likely, here’s an updated list of WrestleMania matches we’ve heard talked about among WWE employees:

Bret Hart and John Cena vs. Vince McMahon and Batista

    Edge vs. Chris Jericho

    Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker

    Triple H vs. Sheamus

Randy Orton vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Cody Rhodes

CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio (Hair vs. Mask)

    – Matt Hardy noted on his Twitter that he’s been working on an autobiography. He wrote:

“I’ve been working on my future autobiography here & there-it’ll be an amazing look into my career & the business.. It’ll totally be REAL.. And for the record, the book would be something that would happen WAAAY down the road.. So don’t get overly excited, HaHa!”

    – As reported earlier, RAW superstar John Cena has been injured for weeks now, working through what’s believed to be a bulging disc in his back. Cena’s in-ring time has been scaled back in recent weeks WWE, with him wrestling much shorter matches than usual. He’s still been on the road appearing at live events, but he was taken out of the main event of the Royal Rumble due to the injury, which is why Randy Orton is fighting Sheamus on Sunday.

    – WWE’s creative team has been told that there is no chance of The Rock vs. John Cena at WrestleMania and right now are back to working on Cena vs. Batista for the big event. • Jim Ross’ Raw Thoughts: Cena-Vince, DX, Dule Hill

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog update at his official website, JRsBarBQ.com.

Dule Hill’s Job Hosting RAW: “USA’s Psyche star Dule Hill has tons of talent and charisma and was fun to watch host Raw Monday night. Hill has a bright future in television and film, without question. I plan on watching Psyche for the first time Wednesday night when John Cena guest stars.”

Cena’s Interaction with Vince McMahon: Ross called the segment “spot on” and some of the best verbal confrontations he’s seen in a long time. Ross said, “The dialog between Cena and the Chairman of WWE was organic, emotional, and really has me anxious to see Raw next week when Bret “Hitman’ Hart returns to confront McMahon.”

DX’s Promo On RAW: “The serious nature of winning the Royal Rumble match and what it means individually to every competitor was underscored with Monday Night’s DX in ring promo. This was another verbal exchange that captured my interest. DX in a serious tone really captivated my attention.”

To read about who Jim Ross likes for the SuperBowl and much more, visit JRsBarBQ.com.

Our Thoughts: Dule Hill had several entertaining segments and held his own with some of WWE’s best talkers. Cena’s performance showed just how good he can be on the mic and the confrontation felt special. As does Sunday’s Royal Rumble. It’s one of those years where you could see a number of superstars coming out on top and there are several storylines in place that will all come to ahead on Sunday.

  • The Rock Says He Has No Interest In Wrestling John Cena

The GREAT One .. Dwayne "The ROCK" Johnson
    Dwayne "The ROCK" Johnson

During an interview with Live Audio Wrestling last night, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said he would return to WWE for a guest-hosting role or to wrestle a match on the sole condition that he can “rip up” the writing for the current television product and tap into the “Attitude Era” with an edgier product.

“I want to use the platform as a host to literally rip things open. There’s so much stuff we can do,” Johnson told John Pollock. “We’re going to create an incredible show, an incredible Raw. I’m doing another movie, but after that, we’re going to create something special, unique, something badass for the fans. Talking to Vince (McMahon), whenever that’s going to be, we’re going to have a great time.”

Johnson echoed what he said last week during an interview with ESPN in that he wouldn’t rule out actually wrestling, but only if he can turn the product upside down and create a compelling storyline leading to a match.

“I accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish in wrestling, so I wouldn’t rule out going back,” Johnson said. “If the match was right and we could create something really unique and cool for the fans and for my opponent and for the company, I would do it in a second.”

Johnson once again said he has no interest in wrestling John Cena, but talked about what it would take for him to work a program with one of WWE’s premiere stars.

“I’ve never been interested in wrestling John Cena. The guys I wrestled in the past – from Goldberg to Hogan to Austin – were guys who I’ve really wanted to wrestle. If it can be done creatively but not only that, it’s very important if I do back is that the writing has to be ripped open and really be pushed,” Johnson said. “I came from a time in the Attitude era where we trail-blazed a lot and were fearless in the things we said and did.”

  • Chat With Cena Monday Afternoon, Updates On McIntyre & Reks

    — Before James Roday and Dulé Hill guest host Raw, ask them and John Cena (who guest stars on Wednesday’s season premiere of Psych) questions for an online chat tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. EST on WWE.com. You can submit questions at the following link.

    — Drew McIntyre appeared fine at last night’s SmackDown/ECW live event in Hammond, Indiana after reportedly suffering a dislocated patella during his match at last Tuesday’s SmackDown taping.

It was announced this past Friday on SmackDown that McIntyre will be defending his Intercontinental Championship against John Morrison in a No Disqualification Match on this week’s show.

    — It would appear that Tyler Reks’ embarrassing plane incident two weeks ago in Green Bay is now water under the bridge considering that he garnered a victory over Goldust at last night’s SmackDown/ECW live event. The sparingly seen ECW star has been trying out his new found heel persona at non-televised events in recent weeks and is simply waiting to be reintroduced to the masses.

    — Developmental wrestler Johnny Curtis is once again on the road this week with WWE. He came up short last night in a match against Chris Masters.

  • John Cena’s Injuries, More Releases Coming, New Superstar

    — It was recently reported that John Cena is suffering from back problems, but he is also having issues with his neck, both of which stem from his surgery a few years back. With Cena one of the guys who legitimately travels on the road about 300 days a year, it definitely lessens the time has to recover from any ring injuries.

    – WWE developmental talent Johnny Curtis has been working RAW brand events as of late. Curtis is cutting promos saying to look out for him on RAW soon and that he’s going to make an impact in WWE. Curtis has been signed to a WWE developmental deal since 2006 and has held the FCW Tag Team Titles in the past with Tyler Reks.

    — WWE announced the release of SmackDown superstar Eric Escobar  last Friday and it’ss expected that more releases will be announced heading into WrestleMania.
