New Japan Pro Wrestling star and current IWGP Intercontinental Champion Tetsuya Naito recently spoke to Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard on a number of topics including John Cena, Brock Lesnar and the Bullet Club.
When asked if he ever compares himself to the stars of WWE, specifically John Cena and Brock Lesnar:
“Of course, I know of them, but, unfortunately, I have no interest,” To me, New Japan is the foremost pro wrestling in the world. Entering the ring here means you are the world’s best, so to be a New Japan wrestler speaks for itself.”
When asked about Los Ingobernables’ First US Appearance with New Japan:
“New Japan Pro Wrestling, but more specifically, Los Ingobernables de Japon, will show American wrestling fans a truly electric experience in the ring,” The matches are going to captivate and excite like no other, good luck trying to blink.”
“Even though the matches coming up will be in America, what we’ll show everyone is the exact same thing we show here,” So I want everyone in America to make sure their eyes are open and on us when we are in the ring. I want you all to enjoy what Los Ingobernables de Japon are all about.”
When asked about his match against Hiroshi Tanahashi at the upcoming Dominion show:
“I really don’t have much motivation going into this match with him,” Tanahashi is the one who has to make sure he’s in shape and puts in the effort. I didn’t even want to accept his challenge this time. I don’t know what gives him the right to challenge again. But you know New Japan, this crazy ass company, they’ll bend over backwards for Tanahashi.”
You can watch the Los Ingobernables leader defend his IC title against Tanahashi live and in full on NJPWWorld.com.
16-time world champion John Cena recently appeared on Variety’s Playback podcast to discuss his new movie The Wall, taking time away from WWE and much more. You can listen to the full episode here:
Here’s what John Cena said about:
Deaths in Pro Wrestling:
“I think it all comes down to personal choice. You look at choices in the entertainment industry, there are great entertainers that we lose too soon all because it comes down to personal choice, so it’s not necessarily the life. There are a lot of guys that did all those dates on the road and they’re fine. And there are a lot of guys who lived like there was no tomorrow and guess what: when you do that there’s no tomorrow. Like, that stuff catches up with you plain and simple, so it’s again, not [relegated] to a profession.”
“What I admire about the WWE nowadays is that even though the way we are set up, as independent contractors, they take care of us as if we are family. They offer financial assistance, onsite healthcare if you get injured. We get injury pay now. They offer secondary education. They offer a second language program. The depth that they go to make sure we are protected is… they don’t need to do that and they do it anyway. It’s a great testament to how much they care about their current talent and talent of life after the [pro wrestling] business.”
The Vince McMahon Movie Script & The Possibly Of Playing Vince:
“That script is amazing! That is something that I read in one sitting and, like, man, I need to be a part of this movie.” Cena admitted, “man, I don’t want to get myself in hot water with him, but I’d love to. I’d love to. I just love the story. The words jump off the page. I certainly know and admire the man. He’s literally one of my heroes. He has been a friend, a father, a mentor. Whoever does that, they have a wonderfully crafted challenge in front of them because he is one-of-a-kind.”
“I think [Tom Hardy] would be a fantastic choice. I don’t know if he has final say. I think the people making the movie do, but that’s a fantastic choice. Vince is just so unique, man. I can’t wait to see the movie. They already have my ticket money.”
During the WWE’s recent European Tour, WWE Superstars The Miz and Maryse did some promotional work for the company in France. The Miz was asked a variety of pro wrestling topics and you can check out the best highlights here:
Why he holds the Intercontinental Championship so close to his heart:
“As a kid, growing up, my heroes all had the Intercontinental Championship. Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Mr. Perfect, Ric Rude, all of them. And they were the people I looked up to and wanted to be like. So coming to WWE, the one championship I wanted was the Intercontinental Championship. Not only that, I wanted to make it as prestigious as it was when I was a kid, but I also wanted my name to be synonymous with the Intercontinental Championship. That’s exactly what I’m doing and why I have such a pride for that title.”
If he can say one good thing about John Cena and Nikkie Bella:
“One good thing about Nikki Bella and one good thing about John Cena? They’re both gone from the WWE right now. There’s your good thing for both of them. Oh, you’re a big John Cena fan? Are you gonna cry because he’s not gonna be at the show today? What are you five?”
What goals he has left to accomplish in wrestling:
“I have so much more to do. Even though I’ve accomplished so much in WWE as well as having a franchise in The Marine, it’s still not enough for me. I always want more. I think that’s the drive we both (he and Maryse) have. Right? With all you’ve (Maryse) accomplished don’t you want more? It’s always what’s next. It never stops.”
Last week, Rusev posted the following video and said that he will be showing up at tonight’s episode of SmackDown to confront Shane McMahon and demand a title shot at the Money in the Bank PPV.
As it turned out, Rusev did not appear on tonight’s SmackDown. Instead, Rusev attended the Nashville Predators NHL playoff game against the Anaheim Ducks.
WWE has posted their new opening video for SmackDown Live. John Cena and Nikki Bella have both been removed from the video. Chris Jericho was included in the video even though he is currently touring with his band Fozzy.
WWE Superstar John Cena did an interview with The Toronto Sun to promote his new movie “The Wall”, which hit select theaters last week. You can check out some of the highlights from their conversation here:
So do you now have a whole second career in the movies?
“Man, that would be great if it could happen. [Laughs] I’m certainly more comfortable now with the roles I have than I was 10 years ago. Anyway, I’m glad if you think so — hopefully it means I can make some more movies!”
What’s the secret behind your drive, your motivation, your success?
“I show up on time, I try to work really, really hard, and I approach everything like it’s the first day on the job. Also, I have a saying: ‘Don’t be an A-hole’ and I’m guided by that. [Laughs]. I just try to be a nice person, treat everyone with respect, and work hard.”
You’ve described your wrestling persona as, ‘Goodie-Two-Shoes Superman’ and you’re a major role model to kids. Is that job one?
“I don’t consider that a job. I consider that a privilege, that I have a message powerful enough to get young people to listen — ‘Never give up.’ And to get them to pay attention to stuff like the impression they leave on people. And sometimes it doesn’t make me the coolest kid in school, but I’m very happy with the message I have to send. Very happy to be a role model.”
As your movie career continues, should we expect to see you in a superhero’s cape and tights one day?
Recently released WWE Superstar Simon Gotch was a guest on the latest episode of Journey Of A Frontman to talk about his time in the WWE prior to his release. During the interview, Gotch spoke on he and the WWE locker room’s reaction to “The Final Deletion” which Chris Jericho obtained a copy of from Matt Hardy after he did his podcast.
You can check out what Gotch had to say about he and the locker room’s (including John Cena) reaction to the segment here (quotes via WrestleZone):
“Chris Jericho had actually been given an advanced copy of it because Matt had done his podcast and he gave him a copy of it. So when we were over in Japan for a couple days, he was showing it to us. He was telling us that this video’s insane, it’s insane, it’s insane, it’s insane. So we had a viewing and Cena sees everybody laughing and asks what’s going on. And we were like, “Oh, we’re watching this Matt Hardy video.”
“And he asked how it was. I said, “Try and imagine the worst thing you’ve ever seen WWE do. Then imagine if somehow it was good.” And he looks at me for a second and he goes, “I don’t want to come in halfway. Please tell me when it is over. I would like to watch it.” So it finishes and we’re all dying laughing because it’s just the most insane thing anyone’s ever seen. I actually brought it up to Chris and found out he ended up bringing it up to Matt at Mania. If you watch the video when he lights the fire, Matt actually gets engulfed in a ball of flame for a second.
“If you watch it closely when he throws the fire down, pay attention to Matt. Don’t look at Jeff, don’t look at the fire. Look at Matt. The fire comes up and engulfs him. And he was like, “Yeah! No one noticed that! We were doing it, it took all day and we were losing the gasoline. They were like you just gotta go, just do it. And we just went and did it. It got all over me!” And so it was just one of those where it was just a complete accident, but apparently not a lot of people noticed it. I came back in later, Cena was watching the video, he looked at me and said, “You are absolutely right.””
16-time WWE World Champion John Cena did an interview with Business Insider to talk about his diet and workout routine, and what “The Leader Of The Cenation” revealed was that his lifestyle is actually shockingly simple:
What’s his weekly workout routine:
“Weekly workout routine, there is no day-by-day because the travel is crazy. The days very, there’s no daily schedule.
“Four days on, three days off usually. Two days of compound strength movements, which is like, multiple joint stuff. Two days of push-pull, with the goal of being stronger every day.”
How is his daily diet:
“My daily diet – Stay away from the junk. If it breathes or if it’s green, eat it. And just overall make good decisions.”
As mentioned, there is a possibility that TriStar could be making a movie based on WWE’s Vince McMahon’s life. WWE Studios President Michael Liusi is involved in the project as one of the film’s producers, however, it should be noted that items in the script are not historically correct and have been changed.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, WWE Superstar John Cena noted that he’d love the opportunity to play McMahon in the film:
“There is a story out there about the life and times of Vince McMahon. Man, I think it is a wonderful script from word one. But unfortunately, that would be something I’d love to do, but I feel maybe a different actor should do that movie, just because of how powerful the story is, and I would hate for the audience to feel that it is a WWE-produced product. And that’s not in a bad way, it’s just I want them to feel the emotion that I felt reading the script. I can just tell you that it’s out there and that it’s awesome and man, if it were all different, I would certainly love to step into Vince’s shoes.”
John Cena spoke to Fox News this week promote his new movie The Wall, which hits theaters today. Cena spoke in-depth about proposing to longtime girlfriend Nikki Bella at WrestleMania and when he will retire from WWE.
When asked about why he was compelled to get engaged on such a public stage, Cena said WWE is his home and he had no problem sharing that moment with everybody.
“That was the most nervous I have ever been in my entire life and not only was I worried about her response but I was worried about the reaction of the 75,000 people of the Camping World Stadium,” Cena admitted. “I didn’t know that they would react in such a positive way, and I’m forever indebted to our fans for being able to allow me to celebrate the greatest moment of my life.”
He added that wedding plans are already underway, but things are still “very ground floor right now” and he expects the process to get fun when they get closer to the wedding.
Cena has been a fixture of the WWE Universe since his debut 15 years ago. After such a long career and with Cena’s Hollywood career picking up, naturally he was asked about when he’ll hang it up. And naturally, being the company man he is, Cena gave a predictable answer.
“As far as the performance level it’s definitely a business for the young and I am on the older side of young but I don’t think I’ll ever not be involved with the WWE. They will have to tell me that they no longer need my services because it is my home.”
– WWE is teasing a potential ‘dream match’ between John Cena and Roman Reigns. Last Friday, John Cena posted a tweeted a video of himself in the gym of Roman Reigns alma mater, Georgia Tech.
In this video, Cathy Kelley makes sure to point out positive fan reactions to the prospective match-up. For now, fans looking to see these two square off will have to fire up their game consoles and pop in WWE 2K17. Roman Reigns is on RAW and on a [long-term] collision course with Brock Lesnar. John Cena is on SmackDown and keeping busy with projects outside of WWE. But make no mistake about it: this is the biggest marquee match WWE can present.
No matter what Roman Reigns says, John Cena still is “the guy.” WWE is committed to making Reigns the next guy and that road will almost certainly lead him to a high-profile match against the 16-time world champion.
– Tonight’s episode of Main Event on the WWE Network features NXT star Aleister Black (making his main roster debut) vs. Curt Hawkins and Niam Dar vs. Gran Metallik in cruiserweight action.
– Earlier this week, Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella welcomed the birth of their first child, Birdie Joe. Late Thursday night, Brie posted this photo of the happy family together in the hospital.
John Cena recently spoke with Metro.us to promote his new film, The Wall, which follows two soldiers pinned down by an Iraqi sniper, with nothing but a crumbling wall between them. The Wall is produced by Amazon Studios and hits theaters this Friday.
John Cena on his character spending most of the movie passed out on the ground:
“Trust me, I have a sense of humor about it. People have been saying, ‘Hey, man, you were on the ground a lot!’ I totally get it. But that’s what it called for. Sometimes it’s not the number of pages or minutes of screentime. It’s just being part of a good story.”
Balancing his two careers as an actor and WWE Superstar:
“I would do both at the same time, but the movie guys are a little weird with their insurance. They don’t want me to go smashing my face up. [Laughs] I’m excited for all the opportunities outside the WWE ring, only because it raises awareness of the WWE. I take great pride in my profession, but I’m very aware of the perception of it. I think a lot of people think we are just what are are, and that’s it.
Cena put over how talented WWE Superstars are, stating that WWE does live sports entertainment and they do it like nobody else can. He feels that branching out into Hollywood and gaining new fans there presents an opportunity to bring those ‘eyes’ onto the WWE product.
You can check out the complete John Cena interview at Metro.us and the official trailer for The Wall below:
WrestleMania 33 saw John Cena get down on one knee and propose to longtime girlfriend Nikki Bella. Now that they’re engaged, the wedding planning is underway. During a recent Facebook Live interview with Redbook Magazine, Nikki revealed, “I don’t know a wedding date yet. I don’t want it to be quick.”
The Total Divas star noted she wants the wedding to be around a time when neither of them are busy, which sounds like a difficult scenario based on their schedules. Whenever the wedding does go down, it sounds like they plan to share the imitate ceremony with the world:
“There’s a few that I’m looking at, but I’m not going to say which days, yet” Nikki said. “More than likely, you’re gonna see it on TV. I’ll give you that hint.”
Since wrestling weddings that occur on WWE television rarely go off without a hitch, it’s more likely that footage will air on a future season of Total Divas or Total Bellas.
Here’s the full Nikki Bella Facebook Live interview with Redbook Magazine. Aside from the wedding talk, Nikki also discusses some fitness tips and her favorite career memories.
John Cena recently took part in a “Five Questions With…” interview with Sports Illustrated. Cena spoke about fans calling for him to turn heel, his relationship with Nikki Bella being incorporated into his WrestleMania feud with The Miz and the fact that he hasn’t headlined a WrestleMania since 2013.
For as long as John Cena has been the face of WWE and a rule-abiding hero to WWE’s younger fans, there’s a segment of the WWE Universe pining for the day Cena snaps and turns heel. As much as a heel turn could freshen up Cena’s character, his work with the Make-A-Wish foundation and countless other charities makes that a highly improbable scenario.
Cena relishes his role as the ‘Superman’ of WWE and knows that he provides a source of inspiration and escape for people around the world.
“I don’t think everyone wants me to turn,” Cena said. “There is a group of people that don’t like what they see, but the most important message I send is you can’t please everybody, never be ashamed to be who you are, and know that what you do affects people.
I look at it as a way to provide hope for families that don’t go through what we consider a normal day by providing a smile and happiness. I look at WWE as a vehicle to provide an escape and happiness. That’s why I’m here every year, I believe in what we do.”
John Cena’s real-life relationship with Nikki Bella was the focal point of their WrestleMania feud with The Miz and Maryse. Cena and Nikki already put their personal lives on display on Total Bellas, but Miz and Maryse said a number of things during their program that hit close to home.
When asked if things got “too real” in the lead-up to WrestleMania, Cena said his engagement to Nikki Bella was his most important WrestleMania moment.
“I tell everyone who will listen, Nicole is the strongest, most inspiring person I’ve ever met. That’s why I love her. I’ve headlined with The Rock and I’ve been a part of a lot of WrestleMania moments, but this moment with Nicole is the one most important of all because I get to stand alongside her in a WrestleMania ring.
All of that is because of her story. She drives me, she inspires me. We learn from each other every day. On top of that, I’m head over heels for her. And she loves this business just as much as I do, so it’s special.”

Details On David Otunga’s New Film
As noted earlier, new WWE Raw commentator David Otunga will not be debuting on the show for another six weeks. Otunga previously was on commentary for Smackdown, but switched to Raw during WWE’s Superstar Shake-Up. Otunga will star in the new film “Katrina” and it is set in 2005 New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. Otunga will play the role of edgy DEA Agent James “World” Lawson.
Nikki Bella recently appeared on Fox Sports’ Wrestling Compadres podcast. Here are some highlights of what she said about:
The Miz, Maryse and Tyler Breeze parodying her on Smackdown:
“I mean, I’m not going to lie. I laughed. You know what I realized, too? I’m very easy to impersonate. From the look, to the personality, I’m like, wow.
“When I walk in the halls, I’m just like, ‘Oh, there’s me, and then there’s me.’ And then Tyler Breeze’s body’s actually real hot and tight, so he would turn a corner and I would be just like, ‘Oh [expletive], Brie?! And I have so much respect for him. One, he’s an incredible wrestler. Him and Fandango, they’re so fun. I want them to have so much more, but what they do with what they get, I think is incredible. And then Tyler, just how, dressing like me and everything he did, you know, I got to spear him, and give him my finisher.”
WWE hiding her relationship with John Cena on WWE TV until recently:
“They wouldn’t allow it for so many years. We were told, ‘Not on WWE.’ They could see it on ‘Total Divas,’ ‘Total Bellas,’ but not on WWE.”
“What they realized is that when John was in relationships on-screen, it didn’t do as well when he was just himself. So the fan base didn’t take him in like how that was.
“So after the last on-screen, they were like, no girls with this guy. And I think with a lot of those guys — like, I don’t think you’ll ever see a girl with Roman (Reigns). There’s just certain people that it’s just, not that it takes away the ‘Superman’ feel of them, but a little bit.”
You can check out the entire interview by clicking here and listen to the podcast on iTunes.
Nikki Bella was recently interviewed by TMZ Sports and revealed that she didn’t believe that Cena would propose to her at Wrestlemania 33. Bella also stated that she will not be having children because Cena does not want them.
Kevin Nash appeared on the Comedy Central series Detroiters last night. Nash played Big Hank Cramblin, an advertising executive who was recently released from an insane asylum. Detroiters airs Tuesday nights on Comedy Central.

John Cena and Nikki Bella were engaged to be married in the middle of the ring at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando.
Following their win over Maryse and The Miz, Cena took the mic and dropped to one knee and asked Nikki to marry him. No word yet on when the wedding will take place.
Cena told Nikki that said that before she went in for her neck surgery several months ago, he wanted to ask her one question that she would give him a truthful answer to. His question, which she barely remembered because she was medicated and about to go under the knife, was whether or not she’d marry him one day. She said yes. Cena said now was the time to make it official and got down on one knee to ask for her hand in marriage. He took out a massive engagement ring and Nikki said yes. They celebrated together and at ringside with their families.
Complex Sports is reporting that Paul Heyman’s agency, Looking4Larry, has signed a deal with independent record label Reviver Entertainment Group. Reviver Entertainment Group is headed by second generation music impresario David Ross. Heyman and his Looking4Larry partners will produce and direct music videos for Reviver artists. They will also handle introducing them to the public and promoting them.
On The Bella Twins YouTube channel, a video was uploaded of John Cena and Nikki Bella sharing a moment backstage during the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. Cena and Bella will face The Miz & Maryse tomorrow night at Wrestlemania 33.
Yesterday on NBC’s Today show, John Cena found himself on the hot seat as the hosts asked him questions regarding his relationship with Nikki Bella. In particular, the talk show hosts questioned whether Cena might propose to Nikki at WrestleMania on Sunday.
Cena appeared on the program wearing his most Vince McMahon-inspired suit.
John Cena and Nikki Bella Relationship
John Cena and Nikki Bella have been together since 2012. That was also the year Cena divorced his first wife. Cena had been married to Elizabeth Huberdeau for a period of 3 years beginning in 2009.
While Cena has always said to be lukewarm to the idea of getting married again, the recent inclusion of Nikki Bella into his on-screen storylines indicates a possible change.
Cena and Nikki are scheduled to face the Miz and Maryse on Sunday in a mixed-gender tag match.
Former WWE Superstar Jack Swagger has made his first tweet since he was granted release from the company. A fan sent him a tribute video and Swagger thanked the fan and stated that his “reign has just begun”.
John Cena Interrupts Awkward Moment Between Nikki Bella & Tyler Breeze
Last night on Smackdown, John Cena had a match against Fandango. Tyler Breeze accompanied Fandango to the ring and was dressed as Nikki Bella. Cena and Bella wound up being up both Breeze and Fandango. Nikki Bella thought she was looking into a mirror when she bumped into Tyler Breeze backstage. John Cena then appeared and thought Breeze was Nikki Bella and walked away with him.
Shinsuke Nakamura was recently interviewed by Sportskeeda and commented on which main roster brand he’d like to join.
“Either brand is okay,” he said, “Raw has Joe, Finn. So much NXT talent that it’s comfortable for me. SmackDown has AJ Styles, Randy Orton, John Cena. I want to wrestle all of them. So either!”
Whether he winds up wrestling on Monday or Tuesday nights, Nakamra thinks he’s proven that he deserves a spot in WWE. “”I’ve done a good job this year, but I still want to go to the next WrestleMania. Before WrestleMania, there’s Takeover, and I need to prove myself again. Then, I want to go up as soon as possible.”
When asked about his dream WrestleMania opponent, he named AJ Styles. You can check out he entire interview at Sportskeeda.com.
– John Cena (a/k/a Lance Catamaran) thanked fans on Twitter for the tremendous response to Southpaw Regional Wrestling, the 4-part comedy series about a fictional 1980’s wrestling territory. Cena instructed fans to tweet at the creator of the show for more episodes. In case you missed it:
Meanwhile, Jim Cornette was asked if he had checked out Southpaw Regional Wrestling. Cornette is a staunch supporter of classic professional wrestling, a bygone era parodied in Southpaw. He replied:
To put an end to these requests–do not intend to watch this horseshit, people who ask me to are wasting their time. https://t.co/0KQbjIbq8X
WWE announced on Thursday that John Cena will be the man to induct Kurt Angle into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania weekend.
John Cena and Kurt Angle have a lot of history together. Cena made his WWE television debut back in June of 2002 when he answered an open challenge by the Olympic gold medalist. 15 years later, we’ve come full circle and it will be Cena honoring Angle as he takes his rightful place amongst the sport’s top legends.
Since the announcement of Angle’s Hall of Fame induction, he’s done various interviews talking about who he wanted to induct him. On multiple occasions, he said that he requested The Undertaker, John Cena or Stone Cold Steve Austin.
WWE SmackDown Superstar John Cena hosted Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards over the weekend. The event took place USC’s Galen Center in Los Angeles on Saturday and the 16-time world champion was joined by none other than Nikki Bella.
Despite having the honor of hosting the 30th installment of the KCA’s, Cena was not exempt from being covered in green slime (see above). Cena almost made it through the entire show without getting slimed – almost. As the show was winding down, he asked the audience if they want to see something cool. After getting slimed, Cena said,
“I have just turned into John Greena. Thank you Nickelodeon. Thank you Kids’ Choice. Tonight was incredible. I had the time of my life.”
During an interview with Extra last week to promote the awards show, Cena talked about how he and Nikki stay so close despite their busy schedules. “It sometimes comes down to the unromantic fact of scheduling time for each other, which — for lack of a better word — sucks, but when we have that time with each other, it’s truly incredible.” He continued, “I love her to death and I look forward to the next time I see her.”
Check out these photos of the WWE power couple at the show:
