Justin Roberts Talks 10 Years With WWE & Advice From Stephanie

The WWE’s website has an interview up with ring announcer Justin Roberts, who celebrated 10 years with WWE this past Monday.  Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Celebrating 10 Years With WWE:

“It’s really cool have accomplished 10 years of ring announcing with WWE. I was a wrestling fan who lived for WWE. I didn’t watch any other sports; WWE was all I wanted to watch.”

Advice He Received from Stephanie McMahon:

“When I started here, I had been listening to Howard Finkel. So when I previously announced at independent wrestling events, tough man contests, University of Arizona women’s softball games, basically anything I could announce … I was utilizing a bit of The Fink’s ‘cool announcer voice,’. I didn’t even realize that I was doing it.”

“One day, Stephanie McMahon came up to me and said not to go out there and be Howard, but to be me. I didn’t understand it at first, and then it hit me. I went back, watched some of my work, and thought, ‘That that isn’t my voice, that’s not how I sound.’ Once she said that to me, the light went on and I just became me. So every introduction that I do has its own flavor. I don’t go out and give the same introduction to everybody.”

Lilian Garcia Denies Having An Argument With Justin Roberts

Lilian Garcia denied rumors of an apparent argument with fellow ring announcer Justin Roberts before the live audience at Sunday’s Over the Limit pay-per-view event, saying it’s “news to (her).”

Roberts denied the rumor first Monday afternoon via Twitter, writing, “Hey @liliangarcia supposedly we had an argument last night…u know what they say-if its on the Internet it HAS to be true, right? Good2cu!” Garcia later responded to his tweet, writing, “LOL news 2 me!”

PWInsider.com reports there is a lot of heat on Garcia for her multiple errors on the show. During ring introductions for the participants in the Fatal 4-Way Match for the World Heavyweight Championship, Garcia incorrectly announced Sheamus’ billed weight as 227 pounds, rather than 267 pounds. In another glaring miscue, Garcia announced Hunico as a match participant seconds after Hunico proclaimed Camacho as wrestling. Broadcaster Michael Cole took the opportunity to once again denounce her ring announcing ability, say he wasn’t surprised by the mistake considering the source.

The SmackDown Diva acknowledged her announcing miscues via Twitter, writing “THKS!” to the following fan message: “It’s awesome how u deal w the mishaps. It really shows ur level of professionalism.”

Justin Roberts Denies Having Argument With Lilian Garcia

Justin Roberts denied an online rumor that he had a heated argument with fellow ring announcer Lilian Garcia before fans at Sunday’s Over the Limit pay-per-view event.

He stated Monday afternoon via Twitter, “Hey @liliangarcia supposedly we had an argument last night…u know what they say-if its on the Internet it HAS to be true, right? Good2cu!”

The rumor originated from Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer, who said in today’s edition of Observer Radio that the two argued before the live audience. The incident reportedly stemmed from her mistakes.

“Something happened between Lilian Garcia and Justin Roberts where Lilian stormed off—live crowd could see it. And it had something to do with her botching something. It was the ring announcement of the Cody Rhodes/Christian match and they were arguing and she stormed off, I know that,” he stated.

PWInsider.com reports there is a lot of heat on Garcia for her multiple gaffes on the show.

Garcia also drew the ire of fellow ring announcer Justin Roberts for mishandling ring introductions for the Intercontinental Championship Match between Cody Rhodes and Christian. Details On Michael Cole’s Crass Joke About Lilian Garcia

Returning to WWE after a more than two-year hiatus, Lilian Garcia appeared on Friday’s episode of SmackDown as the program’s new ring announcer.

Tony Chimel introduced Garcia to the live audience at the start of the broadcast, who was already standing in the ring. As Garcia talked about how great it was to be back, she was interrupted by Cody Rhodes, who was standing on the announce table. Rhodes said no one cares she is back since no one noticed she had left. Garcia danced with Hornswoggle later during the show, which gave commentator Michael Cole the opportunity to air a crass backstage joke.

He cracked, “I wish these two would stop horsing around!”

The reference stems from those in WWE’s “inner circle”—Vince McMahon, Triple H, television producer Kevin Dunn and the since departed John “Bradshaw” Layfield—often joking that Garcia has a horse-shaped face. The crass joke was passed around backstage years ago and ultimately acknowledged on television by Layfield and Hunter to amuse company employees. Though Garcia has publicly taken the joke in stride, Mick Foley took offense to Hunter demeaning the “Decade Diva” during an episode of Raw last year in which she had filled in for regular ring announcer Justin Roberts.

He wrote online after watching on television Triple H tell Garcia she can always return to WWE to “horse around,” “Why does someone like Triple H, one of the most talented, well paid guys in the business, do something so shallow and mean? Why would a multi-millionaire, with millions of fans around the world, feel the need (several times over the years) to say something that is only meant to hurt? I don’t get it. I don’t get why it’s done, I don’t get why it’s condoned, I don’t get what possible satisfaction anyone involved gets from demeaning someone like Lillian Garcia. I just don’t get it.”

The latest reference was likely directed by Triple H, who filled in for McMahon at Tuesday’s SmackDown taping since the WWE CEO was off visiting U.S. Armed Forces serving in Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan. Cole is the mouthpiece of the program director, as he is fed lines via headset. It was not the only mean-spirited remark on Friday’s show as Cole made light of Jim Ross suffering from Bell’s palsy after Josh Mathews said Cole speaks out of both sides of his mouth.

Cole quipped, “Actually, there is nothing wrong with my mouth, unlike J.R.’s.”

Howard Finkel Not Thrilled With Lilian Garcia’s Return To WWE

— Legendary ring announcer Howard Finkel appears unhappy with Lilian Garcia’s return to WWE. When asked for comment on the her return to the organization as SmackDown ring announcer during WWE.com’s live chat Monday, he initially ignored the subject.

“The Fink” wrote “Genku already stirring the pot” in response to a fan’s query. He then said he has “even bigger news” than Garcia’s return to WWE, which was Dusty Rhodes joining Twitter.

Finkel then appeared annoyed when a chat moderator posted a YouTube video of Garcia’s 2007 song ¡Quiero Vivir!. When asked for comment later, he simply wrote, “Good for her.” The following fan comment was then posted: “Fink, you should return to announce. Belong on tv not computer.” He responded, “AMEN.”

— WWE ring announcer Justin Roberts says he will be making a big announcement this week.

He wrote, “For my 1000th tweet, I’d like to announce… A big announcement this week right here on my Twitter… Stay tuned!”

Cena Teases Cage Match For Raw, Miz & R-Truth Invade Events

— John Cena appeared in studio on The Johnny Dare Morning Show today to promote tonight’s Raw SuperShow at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Cena teased during the interview that a cage would hang above the ring at the venue. He also discussed films, cars and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Cena stated that he does not want to turn bad because seeing the Make-A-Wish kids with his merchandise makes his day.

Meanwhile, the female sidekick auditioning for the morning show said she was former WWE announcer Jonathan Coachman’s roommate in college. She also claimed to have one night stands with former WWE talent John “Bradshaw” Layfield and Al Snow.

— The Miz and R-Truth “invaded” this past weekend’s Raw live events. The same scenario took place at all three shows; the heel duo would jump WWE Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne immediately following their victory over David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty. Company personnel would then escort the “fired” wrestlers away.

Ring announcer Justin Roberts announced at the start of all three shows that The Miz and R-Truth wouldn’t be on hand due to Triple H’s ruling last Monday on Raw.

Masters Wonders Why JTG Is Employed, Chimel Misses Shows

— Commenting on his recent release from WWE during an interview with Wrestling101.com, Chris Masters says he didn’t receive the opportunity he feels he deserved.

“We didn’t part on bad terms, for me personally this time was very different from the first time I was released. I do feel like I worked my ass off and they should’ve at least given me another shot,” Masters said.

“The Masterpiece” also wonders why WWE opted to keep certain talents employed over him.

“I look at other guys on the roster and I don’t mean to mention names but people like JTG and a handful of other guys and you think, “your going to keep this guy but your going to get rid of me?”
