UFC Hall of Famer Wants Back in WWE

Former UFC Super-Fight and WWE Intercontinental champion, Ken Shamrock, can’t understand why WWE won’t bring him back.

The 53-year-old recently appeared on the Wrestledelphia podcast and the topic of a possible WWE return was brought up.

Ken Shamrock WWE Return Possibility

Asked if he felt WWE will ever bring him back, here is what Shamrock had to say:

“I doubt it. I’ve been saying this for years.” Shamrock stated on the show.

“I’m not understanding that with everybody that I’ve seen come back – Kurt Angle, The Rock – how isn’t Ken Shamrock there?

“If anybody makes sense in coming back and doing something with those guys coming back, there is no other better person than myself.”

Ken Shamrock On CM Punk Losing His UFC Debut

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion and UFC fighter Ken Shamrock recently did an interview on the Primo Nutmeg podcast to discuss a variety of topics. Shamrock was asked about whether or not WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar should return to the UFC, CM Punk losing his MMA debut, and the backlash Punk has taken for his loss in his mixed martial arts (MMA) debut. You can check out the highlights here:

If Brock Lesnar should return to UFC:

“Well I think that’s up to him,” Shamrock said. “Only he knows where he’s at, where his body’s at to be able to compete, so each individual really only knows what they’re capable of doing or what they’re desire is.”

Punk’s MMA defeat and if she should continue fighting:

“He’s already started that journey, and if he’s like me, if that would’ve happened to me then I would go back to the drawing board and get better,” Shamrock said. “I mean I’m not gonna give up, I’m not gonna quit on it, I’m gonna keep coming and I’ll figure it out. But I don’t know if he’s that way, I don’t know if he has that desire.”

People who mock Punk because he lost:

“When he first went into it I warned people, I said, ‘Listen, this guys is taking a risk. Respect that risk. Don’t bash him if he goes out there and loses because all these other people he’s going against, he’s fighting all the odds because they’ve all got fights under their belts, they’ve all got experience under their belts. He’s coming from a pro-wrestling organization, he’s trying to experience something that he loves, which is completely different from pro-wrestling,” Shamrock said.

“So he takes that chance; isn’t that what this world is built on, people that take chances to go out there and follow their dreams or follow things that they desire to do? And if by chance they fall down and don’t succeed, we gotta give them room to get back up and continue to keep going, whatever direction it may be. We don’t stomp on their heads and say, ‘Oh you tried man, we’re gonna crush you now because you failed.’ To me, that’s ridiculous because it’s not fair.

“This guy did something that I thought not too many people would have the balls to do, to step out of a pro-wrestling ring and into an MMA ring, and he did that,” Shamrock continued. “And he trained for it, he worked for it and it didn’t work out for him. God bless him, man. But don’t step on his head and not let him back up to try to make a recovery. That would be just wrong.”

Ken Shamrock on Who Benefits From The Mayweather vs. McGregor Fight

The combat sports world was flipped upside down last month when it was announced that UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor would be making the transition over to the boxing world to take on, arguably, the greatest of all time – Floyd “Money” Mayweather. The pair are set to throw down in the middle of the squared circle on HBO pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 26th.

Former WWE Superstar and UFC fighter Ken Shamrock recently joined the Primo Nutmeg podcast to offer his thoughts on the match-up, and stated that the bout is great for the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA), but doesn’t do much for boxing:

“I think it’s good for the fight world,” Shamrock said. “It’s given people a reason to complain or to be excited. As long as people are all talking, then you’ve got something.”

“I think it’s bad for boxing because it doesn’t do anything for them,” explained Shamrock. “You’re basically taking a guy like Conor McGregor, who’s never really been into boxing, and you’re gonna throw him in there with the world champion. Now, if Conor McGregor puts up a fight at all, then boxing is going to look bad.”

“The only way [it hurts McGregor] is if he gets knocked out in the first couple rounds. Then it’s not even like he really loses, it just brings up boxing higher,” said Shamrock. “It’s not like it’s the end of him. But if he goes the distance, or he goes deep into the fight, boxing is gonna be hard to recover from that.”

McGregor has accomplished a lot in his short run with the UFC, breaking records nearly every time he steps into the Octagon, prompting many to regard him as one of the greatest the sport has ever seen. Shamrock, on the other hand, believes that moniker is a little premature:

“I think that’s a little premature. I think Conor McGregor is a great fighter and I think he’s the best in his weight division right now,” said Shamrock. “And I think he’s arguably he’s on the Hall of Fame ballot. No question. But he got knocked out by Diaz.”

Ken Shamrock Wants To Know Why WWE Won’t Bring Him Back, Talks Lesnar & The Rock

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Ken Shamrock recently did an interview with Hannibal TV on YouTube where he discussed his pro wrestling career. He talked about his on-air rival Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, saying it was obvious Johnson was talented but that it didn’t come easy to him at first.

“That dude was loaded with talent, he was a star,” the UFC Hall of Famer recalled. “Just being in the ring with him and being able to do those matches, and learning from him. Learning how he was able to take that charisma and just blow it out there. Especially watching him struggle, cause I was with him when he was struggling – changed his name to The Rock, all of a sudden he has the attitude a little bit, he started getting the mic, started cutting promos. His character just developed.”

Shamrock says the Attitude Era was an awesome time and some of his fondest memories are with The Rock.

“I would have to say probably some of my favorite highlights in the ring would have to be with The Rock. Because at that time me and him were number one guys, both of us on the rise, and just the matches we had were good times.”

When asked a hypothetical question about if Shamrock in his prime faced Brock Lesnar in his prime, Shamrock says there’s no way Lesnar could have beaten him.

“It’s not about being better than somebody, but it’s about skillsets,” Shamrock said. “There’s no question in my mind, when I was in my prime I was the most well-rounded fighter out there.”

Shamrock noted that he’s won Championships in MMA, but never won the WWE Heavyweight Title and wants a chance at it. “Everyone else has come back [to WWE],” he noted. “I would really want to know the truth – what was it I did that was so bad that kept me out? Because obviously I have the talent, I brought in all those new moves that everybody is using now.”

Ken Shamrock Not Optimistic About Brock Lesnar’s Chances At UFC 200

MMA legend and former WWE Superstar Ken Shamrock recently appeared on The MMA Show with Marc Charles and spoke at length about Brock Lesnar returning to UFC next month. Shamrock feels that Brock Lesnar bouncing back and forth between WWE and UFC over the past decade is not going to do him any favors when he steps in the Octagon against Mark Hunt at UFC 200.

Shamrock isn’t alone in his uncertainty about Lesnar’s chances, since the former UFC Heavyweight Champion opened as a betting underdog against Hunt. Here are some highlights of what Shamrock said about:

Lesnar’s WWE run affecting his UFC return:

“When you’re a professional athlete, you have to do something for a period of time. So if he continues to keep going – oh he did wrestling first and then he did MMA and then he goes back to wrestling and now he’s back to MMA again – I don’t think he’s really stabilized himself or set an example for himself in MMA. I mean he was there a short time, then he was gone. I mean he’s really done more in pro wrestling than he has done in anything else.”

What Lesnar needs to work on:

“Well he should have put a little more work into his ground game with his submissions, defensive submissions, and definitely his striking. His striking is horrible. So I think he needed to pay a little bit more attention if he’s gonna come back. He needs to take some time and really focus on that and not just jump back into it because he’s a great wrestler because that’s just not going to get it for him in these days.”

Who will benefit:

“I think [the UFC and the WWE] are both gonna get something out of it, I’m just not sure it’s gonna be good for him. I hope it is. I really hope he wins because I’d hate to see him lose, even though I like Mark Hunt, but I’d hate to see him lose after having to come back and it doesn’t work out for him. I think it’s gonna hurt him more than it would Mark.”

Ken Shamrock Confirmed For Bare-Knuckle Boxing Match On PPV

At age 50, “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” Ken Shamrock is preparing for yet another return to competition, as the UFC Hall Of Famer is scheduled to compete in a bare-knuckle boxing match on pay-per-view later this year.

On his official website, the MMA pioneer explains why his upcoming match against Irish bare-knuckle brawler James Quinn McDonagh will be “groundbreaking” and “as real as it gets.”

Below is an excerpt from Shamrock’s official statement:

“To have the chance to reconnect with my roots and compete for self-fulfillment and entertainment is truly a gift. Many are asking why I have chosen to enter the lesser-known sport, Bare Knuckle Boxing (BKB). If you haven’t yet noticed, I like being at the forefront of upcoming combat sports.

I was the first heavyweight Pancrase champion in Japan; created the first MMA team (Lion’s Den); first to submit opponents with leg-locks; first MMA fighter to go into WWF; first fighter in MMA history to capture a championship in two countries. Likewise, I want to get in on the rise of bare knuckle prizefighting.”

Just under three months ago, Shamrock spoke with our official MMA sister-site — MMANews.com — and explained why he would never rule out a return to active competition. For those who missed the interview, you can check that video out by clicking here.

  • Ken Shamrock Says Vince Pays Better Than Dana White, Talks Owen Hart, More

The following are highlights of a new Submission Radio interview with former WWE Superstar and UFC Hall Of Famer Ken Shamrock:

On mending his relationship with his brother Frank Shamrock: “My brother came out with that documentary Blood Brothers ‘Bound by Blood’ and so it was an opportunity for us to get together and really talk about things, and I was happy, I was happy the way it came out. It seemed like he was trying to make an effort trying to make things to make things right, and so I opened my arms. That’s all I ever wanted, was for him to make an honest effort to fix what he broke. I mean I didn’t break it, I didn’t do those things. He did. So I’m not saying I wasn’t at fault at all, because I was. I know I was, but I wasn’t the one who walked out and left, and I wasn’t the one who didn’t go to my Dads funeral, or wasn’t there when he was sick. I didn’t do those things. And so I embraced him when he did that, I was happy.”

On drugs in MMA: “I think that when people talk about banning the substances, its funny because I don’t think people really realized what they’re asking, or what they’re saying. If they take these things out of the sports, people are going to be backed up twenty years as far as competitiveness. What people used to see in colleges that are now like pro now and professional like the supermen; the level of play will be dropped significantly in fighting, in football and in everything that we’re used to seeing. The athleticism and the strength and the stuff these guys are doing will be dropped significantly and the entertainment value will drop with it, and I don’t really think people realize what they’re asking for. They’re asking for the value of the entertainment to drop significantly and we’re going to be ok with that, because considering what we’re used to seeing, it’s just not going to be the same. And I think people are saying ‘oh it’ll still be good, it’ll still be this’ I just don’t really believe they understand what it is that they’re really asking for and I believe personally that things were made to help people and their health and I believe there’s a safe level for people to take these kinds of things to help their body recover and be a safe athlete and be able to get in the ring and compete on a safe level and then be able to have their body’s recover enough for them to be normal throughout the week. Rather than having these guys afraid of getting caught, so they won’t go to a doctor, so they won’t get it legally, they go on the black market, they get it because they can’t let anybody know they got it cause then they can lose the ability to fight or their pro card or whatever it is that they’re doing. They’ll get caught, the media will find out, they’ll get banned, they’ll get fined, all these things happen. So they’ll go to the black market and get it and that’s where the problem is, is that they’re getting stuff (with which) they don’t know what they’re doing, they don’t have doctors for their care to help them do it the proper way so that they’re not putting their health at risk. So that’s the issue right there. I think that If they could somehow find a safe level, make these guys all make sure they got their own doctors to put ’em on it, if they’re gonna go on it to have their own doctors put ’em on it and make sure that the doctors are giving physicals every month, once a month, keeping them at a safe level, I think that’s how you fix the problem.”

“It’s crazy to think people go ‘oh we’re gonna stop it now, now that it’s been going on for fifty years, we’re just gonna completely ban it now’, because I promise you this and I bet you people who understand how many people are using it in sports, they know how BADLY the athletic level will drop it. It’ll be so bad that people won’t want to turn on the TV anymore because there not going to be able to see what there used to seeing.”

On who pays better between Vince McMahon and Dana White: “I don’t know what other people say, but for me it’s definitely Vince (McMahon). I felt like he did me right, even though he may, I don’t know what the issues are with me and him now cause no one will talk to me or say anything, but for me personally I thought he treated me very fairly, he paid me well and I thought he gave me a great opportunity to be able to keep competing in the WWF; Of course I had to do my job, I had to do what they needed me to do, otherwise he wouldn’t give me the time of day. I understand that, I understood that. But when I did do what I was supposed to do he payed me what I deserved.”

On Owen Hart’s tragedy: “We were standing backstage and I was in the gorilla station and I watched it happen. And for the longest time we stood there and just stared at the monitor waiting for some gimmick to pop up, or the match to start, or for him to pop up and then when he was wheeled back in the gurney, still we were waiting for him to get up. I mean, we just didn’t believe that it was real you know, because you know all the gimmicks and stuff that go on there and you’re never told what’s happening and they’ll play all the way out till the next week. And so for the longest time, I think the fans were the same way, was that no one truly believed or understood what was happening at that moment and how real it was and for us, I mean even thought there was a meeting about whether we would go on and do the show, (whether) we were going to keep doing it, out of his honour we were going to do it, at the back of everybody’s mind we were all thinking we were getting worked, like this was a work, someone was working us. And so no one really grasped that until probably after a few weeks afterwards where it set in, in the funeral and in the news and it really set in that it was real. But can could you imagine that, not really knowing something like that?”

On if he considers himself retired: “Oh no I’ll never retire. I’ll never fight again but I’ll never retire”

  • Ken Shamrock Speaks On Triple H Running WWE One Day, Brock Lesnar & More

The following are highlights of a recent interview with former WWE Superstar and UFC Hall Of Famer Ken Shamrock:

On Triple H’s ego and him possibly running WWE someday: “Here’s a guy that has a huge ego. He has a hard time with putting anybody over and let alone outside the business when someone like Brock Lesnar would have to hurt him. His ego wouldn’t let him walk around in a sling. He wants people to know it’s entertainment unless he’s the one doing it then he wants you to walk around in a leg cast. This is what i see the problem is and I’ve been pretty critical about it. You’ve got somebody in that position that’s got too big of an ego to run a company like that. Hunter goes to extreme lengths to look good, to be big and cut and make sure he’s on the cover of the muscle magazine and make sure he’s in fitness things. He’s the guy who’s putting himself in the forefront. For anybody to run a company like the WWE, you can’t be that guy. You’ve got too much talent out there for you to put yourself out there in front of them.”

On WWE not using UFC to help promote Lesnar when he returned in 2012: “I could easily tell you what happened. Triple H happened. You go in there, you take a guy with his stature, his tremendous ability, the limited experience he had in the MMA world and yet he still went in and beat a lot of world title guys. He goes in and Hunter has a match with him and knocks him out with one punch. I think it’s pretty clear what happened. There’s a lot of ego involved with guys running the organization. It’s a shame too, i mean i don’t know who’s pulling the strings. I wouldn’t think it’s Vince, maybe it is, maybe he’s changed his mindset. The thing i noticed with Vince was Vince didn’t care when someone came in, it was about ratings. It didn’t matter what the organization looked like because he could always somewhere down the line get the organization to look good from an angle. But to come in there and actually have him (Lesnar) destroy people from the MMA world. I think that Vince, his mind thought is yeah i mean come on i control this guy. I could have him come in here and crush 20 guys in a row, build up for a big PPV match then have John Cena or The Rock or The Undertaker or somebody come in and have this big payday and have them beat Brock Lesnar and now you’re back on top again. It didn’t make sense for you not to tuck your ego away for a while and build this guy so it was that. You have control over the final story line. You have the pencil in your hand, so you can write the ending to this story however you want.”

The following are highlights of a new Roman Show interview with Ken Shamrock:

On the passing of Ultimate Warrior: “Anytime you know of someone who passes away is always a sad feeling. You understand that this is stuff that happens in life. You wish the family and friends a little bit of comfort. He is in a better place. Its really the people that are left behind you want to pray for.”

On his first time meeting Warrior: “First memory is a funny one. I was in Gene Anderson’s organization and WWF came to town they brought me in for three house show. I worked two matches with Barry Horowitz and one with Mega Man. The two with Barry were good and the one with Mega Man was a horrible match. I went to the locker room they told me ‘don’t worry about it that guy is as green as you are’.” The Ultimate Warrior had come had his match. He sprinted to the ring, he hit the ropes, beats the guy and sprints all the way through the locker room and immediately sits down. As am talking he passes out. I said wow what happened. One of the Anderson brothers said don’t worry he probably just got gassed. I thought he died. That was the first time I met him. After that he wouldn’t talk much. He was nice to me. I respected him. He was a man of few words. I respected him.”

  • Ken Shamrock Speaks On A Possible WWE Return, Beef With UFC & More

The following are highlights of a recent interview with UFC Hall Of Famer and former WWE Superstar Ken Shamrock:

On Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta: “It’s like the original UFC never existed to them. They completely embarrass the history and mention us slightly but it’s like they don’t want to acknowledge the history of their company. There is hardly even a 30 second mention of me in any of there videos. You have Lorenzo telling people that he didn’t sell because he slept on it, that’s an absolute joke. It was because Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock went in and blew up their event and they realised they could make money off it.”

On his decision to join WWE: “I don’t think it was a decision I made because I wanted to do it, it was one I made because I needed the money for my family. The UFC was having huge legal trouble and it got to a point where UFC didn’t have the money to pay me to keep moving forward and looking after my family. There were no hard feelings when I moved and I try to explain that to my fans. There comes a time when you have to do things that you have to do what you don’t want to. I didn’t want to leave UFC but I had to make that decision. When I did eventually make the move to WWE, I realised that I loved it and I wasn’t sure if that was going to be the case.”

On neary winning the WWE Title in 1997: “I’m not sure, I know I was being groomed. I was being put in a very good position to take the title. I took the Intercontinental Title from The Rock and had some great matches with him. I sensed I was going to move up and whether it was with Bret or Rock or Stone Cold or if I was in the mix with all of them, but it just never flourished.”

On a possible WWE return: “First of all, I want people to realise that it is hard to se all the old stars come back to Hall of Fame stuff and me not be included in all these things. I accomplished more than anyone in 2 years at WWF and I was part of one of the biggest match that started the attitude era with Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold. That match changed wrestling to what it is today.”

“There is not a peep from anyone within WWE. I don’t know why they won’t give me a shot in the WWE and to challenge for the WWE title. I have reached out through many different types of media and the only thing I’ve heard back is that they’re doing okay and don’t need me. I say that if you’re gonna be bringing people back from the attitude era and before that then I don’t understand why you wouldn’t bring me back. There seems to be a black mark against me and I don’t understand it.”

  • Ken Shamrock Interview: How He Would Beat Brock Lesnar In MMA & More

    WGD Weekly with Ken Shamrock
    Hosts: Steve & The Scum
    Interview available at Facebook.com/WGDWeekly

Ken on his feelings of MMA and how his legacy is viewed today: “I helped create this sport; it’s almost like a child of mine. Just like many of the other guys who were in it in the beginning they cherish it and nurture it also. So I understand the comments that were made by some people who feel they don’t get the respect they deserve because they have been there in the beginning.”

Ken on his childhood and how he got started in MMA/Wrestling: “Well I started in juvenile hall I ended up getting stabbed at the age of 10, went back and forth in placements then got adopted by my father at the age of 12 who was Bob Shamrock who passed away 10 years ago. He was the one who drove me to become the man I am today. He instilled in me my passion …I was able to become a world champion because of the desire and the non-quit that he instilled in me.”

Ken feelings on Brock Lesnar and how he would go about facing him in the octagon: “I felt that when Brock Lesnar was brought into the UFC he was brought in wrong. I thought if they would have given him time to nurture and dealing with the media and onslaught of main event fights. I thought that some of the matches that he did lose he would’ve lost if he was able to go against guys at his level. The way I would attack is taking him into the later rounds. I think that he has two left feet when it comes to his stand up. He really does have real good technique, he’s slow…make him use a lot of energy with his punches and keep moving.”

Ken Shamrock also discuss his thoughts on refereeing  the WrestleMania 13 match (Bret vs. Austin), the prank that Owen Hart pulled on him, feelings on Dana White, who’s ankle he shattered in the UFC during a fight and much more in this exclusive 2hr interview.
