  • Ken Shamrock On Vince McMahon vs. Dana White, WWE Title, Being Snubbed By UFC

The following are highlights from a recent interview with former WWE Superstar and UFC Hall Of Famer Ken Shamrock:

On Vince McMahon versus Dana White as businessmen: “Vince McMahon is the type of guy that if you’re doing business for him, he’ll pat you on the back and be nice to you, but you know where you stand. Either you’re making money for him or you’re not. And that’s the way it is. He never lied to me, not that I know of… You can take someone that Vince didn’t like, If he found a way to make money with him, he’d put him on the show. It was about business. He would find a way to make it work. Like he did with Bret Hart. They didn’t get along for the longest time. But Vince knew he could use him to make money and Bret knew he could make money. So even though at times they weren’t on the same page, they still did business. That’s what Dana lacks. He doesn’t know how to put aside his feelings and not take everything personal and do business even with people you don’t like.”

On why he was never WWE Champion: “To this day, I don’t know. I thought when I was doing the angle with the Rock… and he went on after I ended up getting the (intercontinental) belt, he ended up going on and facing Stone Cold and some of the other guys and ended up getting the belt, I thought I would move up and go after him because of what we had done prior to that… it just never flourished. It seemed like I went in the other direction. I thought I did everything right, that I was in a good position to make those moves. I really don’t know.”

On being snubbed by UFC regarding their 20th anniversary: “There’s a lot of guys not involved. If you look at the history of the UFC prior to Zuffa, it’s almost like they’re banished… Just look at some of the guys out there that were really fighting four times in one night, bare-knuckled, no rules. It really made the UFC and the grounds of the UFC to be what it is today. Today, it’s a little more sanctioned, but really was raw and it really was guys that were put in there, putting it all on the line, for no money. But you don’t see any of these guys being recognized. You don’t see any of these names- I saw Don Frye at a fight the other night, and he was sitting out in the audience. He wasn’t even inside the cage. It breaks my heart when I see these things because all these promoters walk around with these nice little suits on, acting like they’re big shots, and they’re inside the ring. And you have some of these young fighters, who are up and coming, in there trying to promote the next fight, you’ve got celebrities on the inside, all the fine ladies on the inside. Then you got guys like Don Frye, myself, and a few other guys, sitting outside the cage… none of these people would be walking around thinking they’re big shots if it wasn’t for those guys who put it all on the line, because they loved what they did. But we don’t show them any love. It’s like they completely forget about the past and move forward. They suck it dry, keep doing the things they want to do, but don’t remember the past.”

  • News On A Possible Ken Shamrock Return To WWE + 2014 WWE HOF Inductee Rumors
  • Ken Shamrock Talks About Heat with Triple H, Being Blackballed by WWE and More

Former WWE & UFC star Ken Shamrock was recently interviewed by Steve and The Scum of WGD Weekly. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Having Heat With Triple H: “I’d like to clarify that. There was a guy named Mark Henry, a strong man. He was in the locker room and there were a few guys involved. Hunter was one of them that put s–t in his sandwich and I told him. So, I think Hunter didn’t like me for that and I think Hunter didn’t like me for the fact that when I first came in Vince put me over on him. I was truly understanding that I was the new guy coming in and I hadn’t put in my dues and I was getting a push, but I was doing what I was asked to do. I think Hunter had a real hard time dealing with that, especially with me being a real bad ass otherwise and there’s nothing he could do about it. Then opening my mouth to protect another human being, I think there is ribbing and there is having fun and then there is things where you cross over the line, and so I said something.”

Why he feels “Blackballed” by WWE: “I had put out my feelers, I had actually talked to Shane McMahon, he put a call in. I thought I had a pretty intricate part in changing the face of wrestling when I was able to ref the match with Bret Hart and Stone Cold, it changed the face of wrestling. I was in all the Pay Per Views and all the house shows, and I thought I made a pretty good impact and helped change pro wrestling, not by myself, but definitely I was a part of it in the Attitude Era. There is no recognition towards me or about me and I’m kind of disappointed.”

Wanting to get into the ring with Triple H: “When it comes to Hunter, I would love to get in the ring with him and show him what it’s like… help him understand that there is a lot of people in this world that have a lot of natural ability and natural talent and just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean it isn’t so… I would love to get in the ring with him and show him exactly who I am and what I’m about.”

Ken Shamrock Talks Issues He Had With WWE, Working With The Rock & More

The following are highlights from a new WWE.com “Where Are They Now?” interview with UFC Hall Of Famer Ken Shamrock:

On how he initially entered WWE: “Vince McMahon reached out and showed a big interest in me and in changing pro wrestling as we knew it. He came to me and said I could come to WWE and they’d build me into something special. I appreciated his confidence in me.

On his work in WWE with The Rock: “It was great. Working with him is what almost got me to that next level. I thought that, with the matches I had with The Rock, I was going to move up and go after him for the WWE Title. For some reason, that never happened.”

On issues he had with WWE in the past: “I wasn’t being serious and doing what I needed to do to improve. I got bitter, but it was stupid on my part. There were so many guys that deserved an opportunity at the WWE Championship that didn’t get it, that probably deserved it. I look back on it and think I was truly blessed to have gotten those opportunities.”

Ken Shamrock Criticizes Triple H For Having A Huge Ego, Feels He Doesn’t Want Him Back In WWE

Mixed martial artist Ken Shamrock appeared as a guest on Busted Open Radio, hosted by Doug Mortman and Dave LaGreca (Busted Open Radio airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sirius 94 and XM 208), where he discussed a number of WWE-related topics, including Triple H’s influence on the product. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

Having every show being perfect: “If there was a WCW and if there was someone watching the ratings like when we were in it, there was not one time when you went on the show that the ratings were not sky high and that it wasn’t action packed. The reason why you don’t have shows that are action packed is because you have a changing in the guards now. Vince McMahon was a genius, he was an absolute genius. Then you got a guy that has a huge ego in Triple H who needs to have the spotlight on him and that’s why the shows aren’t going well there because he doesn’t see past himself. You have to be able to bring in all the other talents.

“How many people do they have on the roster? How do you not have every show action packed? How do you have the shows leading up to a big show with all the people you have at your disposal and not be able to put on a good show? If there was a competition out there with another organization, I promise you wouldn’t have these weak ass shows because that means you lost the ratings that week! Knowing Vince McMahon, he hates to lose, he hates to have anyone go over on him and he will be working day and night to make sure that every single one of those shows were a knockout and a home run because you do not have any room for a mistake.

“But since there is no competition and because there is no body pushing them, Vince is kind of laying back and allowing someone who has too big of an ego to run the show because he was actually a talent on the show and he was so hungry to be famous that he would do anything to do that which he has and now he’s in position to control the show and now that’s all you see is him and that’s the problem. You can’t let someone who has that big of an ego run the show.”

Having the current storyline getting Triple H over: “I promise you that Triple H wants to be Vince McMahon, he wants that charisma, he wants that control, and he wants that respect but the only way you going to get the respect by putting yourself a side and pushing other people. Now the only way anyone is going to get pushed is if Triple H has something to do with them, period. That right there is a problem. You can’t start an organization when you’re actually going to be running it and putting yourself in the limelight. Vince McMahon did not do that. Vince McMahon put over (Hulk)Hogan, McMahon put over Andre the Giant, and he was nowhere to be seen. Right now, you got a guy that’s pretty questionable on why he is there and then he makes it even more of a problem by putting himself in the limelight and everybody is going: “See, I told you so.'”

Triple H’s influence in the product and going back to the basis of the Attitude Era: “How long did it take him to do that? He had to listen to other people. He didn’t come up with this great idea on his own. It’s the fans screaming about it. It was when I came up and said, these guys are really soft and it’s not them personally. It’s the storyline. I’m sure these guys can do whatever you ask them to do but it’s the storylines and the direction that the company is going and if you get enough people screaming about it and then all of a sudden he goes: ‘Oh yeah, let me follow it.’

“That’s not the way Vince McMahon would do it. Vince McMahon would have already done it and he would not have to listen to what everybody is telling him to do, he would have already know what to do because he has his ear to the ground and he’s listening and watching to what everything is going on around him in the world, what people are looking at, what people are following, what peoples trends are and he would move the company in that direction before the fans start chanting: ‘Hey! We need more aggressiveness, we need guys to step up, we need the guys to start fighting, we need blood, etc.’ He’s behind the eight ball. How hard is it when you’re sitting at that position and you get enough people to scream and yell at you when you need to start making those changes. That’s not going to work. We need someone that’s going to watch everything that’s going on in the world and move that company in that direction knowing that this is what the people are looking for and that’s not what’s happening. It’s like you have to be instructed by what the fans are screaming for and you need to pay attention before you give the fans what they want before they know they want it.”

Relationship with Vince McMahon: “Obviously, I don’t know how he feels about me. I know we had our arguments but he has had his arguments with everybody that was with the WWF that was on the big stage with him. I don’t hold any personal grudges with him. I think Vince also puts up and he doesn’t just run his mouth. He is a genuinely tough guy and if he had to, he would stand his ground. I respect Vince McMahon for everything that he is but on the other hand with Triple H, it’s the opposite. I think he runs his mouth all the time and not necessarily in the public’s eye because they don’t get to see that part of it but he does behind the scenes and he can’t back it up.

“He followed the game plan and he got where he needed to be. He is where he’s at and there is no doubt that I’m not taking anything away from Triple H, he got to where he is because he’s a great talent. He got to the WWE because he is good at what he does, no question. Not taking anything away from this guy but to be in the position that he is in right now and being able to run something as big as the WWE, I don’t think he is ready for that yet. It’s too soon to be throwing yourself in there like your Vince McMahon.”

Today’s MMA guys in pro wrestling: “It’s fortunate for me because when I got there (WWE), I was one of their top guys. I was blessed in that sense where I can understand the difference whereas a lot of these guys that are just coming in, the first couple years are going to be an education. You got to understand that these pro wrestlers when they come in, you really need to check your attitude at the door. You have to bring it in because that’s who you are but you got to keep it out of the locker room and out of your work. It’s hard to do because you have to bring that attitude and person that you are to the people that you know as. In the ring and those guys across from you got to know that you are not going to kill them. It’s a hard adjustment and it’s not an easy one to do and in time, you’re going to see a little bit more of a cross over, I think people will get more of an understanding of how that business works and its ok to have an attitude but you have to make sure when you’re in the locker room, everybody knows who you are and what your there for.”

Go back to the WWE?: “In a heartbeat. The only problem with that is I don’t think Triple H wants me there but it is what it is. It’s sad because you got a big organization like that the fans would love to see me go back, love to have me in there and yet, I’m not allowed to go back there but not necessarily go back there but nobody talking to me about going back to the organization. It’s says a whole lot about what they feel about the fans and what the fans want and they are not looking at that. That’s when I tell you about ‘Having your ear to the ground. Listen to what the fans wants before they know they want it.’

“That’s what’s missing right now is that they have the opportunity to bring guys in, not just myself, but to bring guys in that give them that edge like Vince did. He brought me in and the single thought was to change pro wrestling and bring some realness to it and he got me to referee the I Quit Match between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Bret Hart at WrestleMania 13 which was tremendous. Those guys beat the crap out of each other. That whole scenario and being the referee and the match they put together that gave the Vince the opportunity and Vince had the vision. It’s not like Vince flipped the card over and said: ‘Ok, this is what we are going to go with.’ Vince had this in his mind. Vince was a genius to turn things around and he did that and they were getting killed in the ratings. All of their big stars went to WCW and all of the sudden all of these ratings wars were going on and Vince said: ‘This MMA is really taking off, I wonder if we can get someone in here that can give us that realness’ and they went out and got me and brought me in and really took a chance and who know if I could have worked or not.”

UFC President Dana White, Former WWE Superstar Involved In “Twitter War”

UFC president Dana White and former WWE Superstar and UFC Hall Of Famer Ken Shamrock got into a “Twitter war” on Friday night.

Basically, Shamrock talked about how much White has changed since becoming successful, while White talked about how much money Shamrock owes him.

Shamrock also asked why White seems to hate he and his brother (Frank Shamrock, another former UFC champion and MMA pioneer) so much. He also brought up White’s hatred for other MMA legends such as Tito Ortiz, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Randy Couture.

The entire beef with White and Shamrock stems from a lawsuit Ken filed against the UFC president years ago. Gas was thrown on the fire recently when Shamrock, along with the aforementioned MMA legends announced that they will be “crashing” an upcoming UFC event.

Ken Shamrock Says He’s Seeking A Return To WWE, Compares McMahon & White

During an interview with Ring Rust Radio, Ken Shamrock revealed that he is seeking a return to WWE. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

On a return to WWE and how winning the World Title would cement his legacy: “Oh, definitely. I’ve tried to reach out, but I’ve been hitting some walls. I’m not sure if my messages are getting through or not. In my career, if you follow my career and watched everything that I’ve ever done from the time I was in high school to where I’m at now, I’ve always been able to reach the pinnacle. In football, I was able to win championships and go to bowl games in college, be an All-American linebacker and there were a lot of things I was able to accomplish. In my professional career, every time I jumped into an organization, I always reached the top and the title. I know with NWA with Jeff Jarrett, TNA, I was their first heavyweight champion, so I was able to reach that pinnacle. With Pancrase, I was their first champion and was also able to bring it to the U.S. using my character. I also reached the level in the UFC as a heavyweight champion, one of the first of all time, also rookie of the year, fighter of the year. I got into pro wrestling, I’ve got tag team champion, Intercontinental champion, King of the Ring. There were several times where I wished I had got that opportunity, and probably should have had that opportunity, to at least challenge for the Heavyweight Championship belt. I never got that opportunity, and I’m not sure why, but it is what it is. I will keep fighting to try and get that opportunity and close this thing up to be probably one of the only persons in sports history to go into several different organizations and become world champion in every one of them.”

On Brock Lesnar and the transition from wrestling to MMA: “People go, ‘What about Brock Lesnar?’ Brock Lesnar was not a true MMA fighter. Brock Lesnar was basically eye candy for MMA. He came in there, he was big, he was strong, he won a few matches, he captured the title and then he was out. Not much of a career. He is a true pro wrestler and amateur wrestler, so I think it’s a lot easier making the transition from being an amateur wrestler and pro wrestler into MMA than it is being an MMA fighter into pro wrestling.”

On Vince McMahon vs. Dana White: “That would be awesome. The only thing is that this is what I know about Dana [White], and you can ask anyone, Dana always talks and talks and talks, but I’ve never seen him do anything. I saw Vince talk, talk and talk, and he has done something, he has gotten into the ring, he has participated with the fighters and the wrestlers. I have not seen Dana White do that. I’ve seen him call out Tito [Ortiz] like they were gonna fight, and it never happened. I’ve never seen Dana interact with his business the way that Vince has. Vince has stepped in the ring against guys he’s pissed off. Hey, you gotta give him credit for that. He stepped into the lion’s den, per say. He did step into the Lion’s Den one time!”
