Kevin Nash Interview: Scott Hall’s Recovery, The Shield, Daniel Bryan, NXT

WWE legend Kevin Nash was interviewed earlier this week by Chad Dukes of 106.7 the Fan DC/CBS Radio. You can listen to audio of the full interview at ChadDukesWrestlingShow.com:

Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Scott Hall’s recovery: “One thing Dallas [Page] gives that a lot of people just don’t have is Dallas has always been the cup half full guy. He’s a real positive human being. I just think that’s what Scott needed more than anything, to be around somebody who’s a positive influence, and to get him pointed in the right direction. Dallas was going to try and get him on the YRG, but once he got down there his hip was so bad they had to get a hip replacement and that’s really held Scott up. He got to a position where he was living clean, there were people around him 24/7 that cared about him, and it just made it easier, that transition to determine on a daily basis not to use.

“My whole thing was they kinda hijacked him on YouTube . They cut that promo where Scott wasn’t aware that it would even air and he was hammered drunk. That was my whole problem, you don’t do that to somebody. Show him six weeks later in Atlanta and then say this is where he came from and you show that second, but you don’t show that first.”

The Success of the Shield and WWE Developmental: “I think those three guys have done a great job. I think that they’ll all break away and have good individual careers, from that stable. They’ll all go off to be single guys. They’ve done a really good job because they’ve built, Hunter’s got a great developmental program down in Orlando now, and its all under one roof. Nobody’s being taught bad habits and have to have those habits broke and be taught the ‘WWE way.’ Everybody’s being taught the ‘WWE way’ coming in the door, and I think that way the transition from NXT to Raw is such an easy transition for the guys because the Full Sail set up, and a lot of people haven’t seen it, is just like a mini Raw. When you come down to the ring it has that same feeling.”

His Previous Comments About Punk & Bryan Being Too Small: “I’ll always feel that way… when they made the movie Avengers, Scarlett Johannsen, Hawkeye and Captain America did not fit with Thor and Hulk.

“People want that. Ryback got pushed to the moon because he had that look. People want to see that. You get over faster if you look like you’re a monster. I don’t take anything away from… I wanna see a 6’5″ guy get on the mound and throw a 110mph fast ball. I really don’t want to see some guy doin’ the Maddox [former MLB Pitcher Greg Maddox] and cuttin’ the corners and all that. I appreciate it, but I wanna see somebody come in there and throw 3 pitches, 110mph, strike the guy out.”

Daniel Bryan: “I would love for him to carry me.”

In response to a fan who was giving Ryback crap for never winning a championship in WWE and being the ruler of nothing, he replied, “My bank acct says different big guy!”

It’s unknown at this point whether Ryback’s tweets were deleted as a result of him responding to negative tweets in a manner that WWE would not approve of. Previously, he deleted all of his tweets after tweeting a message about John Cena’s ex-wife.

Kevin Nash Talks About His WrestleMania Memories, Being Part Of The Streak, NXT

WWE legend Kevin Nash was interviewed this week by the Baltimore Sun. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

What He’s Doing Now Since Leaving WWE:

“I’ve been keeping busy. I’ve been making personal appearances as well as doing independent bookings. I’ve been working on a movie project locally with some writers and a production group. It has a good script, and a medium-budget of about $1-to-1.5 million. There’s also a reality show that I’ve been in talks with.

“I also have a legends deal with WWE, so I go in from time-to-time for DVD commentaries, and I sometimes go to developmental (NXT). It gives them an extra set of eyes who doesn’t necessarily get to see the guys as often, and can give them a different perspective.”

WWE Developmental:

“For a long time, when I went to any sort of developmental, it seems like every guy there had a cookie-cutter look to them. Just a really generic look. Now there are a lot of guys that really look like professional wrestlers. I feel really comfortable with the new group that’s there right now. They’ll be able to continue the business.”

WrestleMania Memories:

“The first Wrestlemania I was involved with was the Michaels/Hall ladder match, when I was Shawn’s bodyguard. I still think that was one of the greatest matches of all time. A year later, me and Shawn were headlining. And then I co-headlined with ‘Taker the next year. I was involved with some great moments in the early-to-mid-90s.”

Being a Part of the Undertaker’s Streak:

“It’s funny because I didn’t believe that there was truly anything special when I wrestled ‘Taker at the time. There was no inkling of a streak or anything. The guys like me that are earlier in the streak are just lucky to be part of the streak. Now it’s such a big thing, and one of the really special things in the business. I really don’t think the streak is ever going to end, and if it was up to me, I wouldn’t ever have it end.”

Kevin Nash Responds To DDP Reaching Out To Scott Hall

Kevin Nash has responded to the news that his friend Scott Hall has once again agreed to join Diamond Dallas Page’s Accountability Crib in an effort to get sober and clean up his life.

Page released an emotional video on Wednesday of his and Jake Roberts’ phone conversation with Hall, where Hall claimed several times, “I’m dying. I’m dying.” and said he was consuming large quantities of vodka.

Having known Scott Hall for 20+ years and seeing his self destruction up close and person, Kevin Nash is not so sure that Hall will be able to turn himself around like Jake Roberts did. He tweeted:

“I love everyone telling me about what Scott needs. Been dealing with this for 20 years. Scott will get healthy when Scott wants to. Period.”

Nash says this is not the first time Scott Hall has agreed to visit DDP’s accountability crib and he’ll believe it when he sees it:

“Scott told everyone 2 months ago he was going to DDP’S going to be there that weekend.Show me the tape when he walks in the door.”

Nash says DDP’s yoga program sounds great, but the abuse that Hall has done to his body requires professional detox under the care of medical personnel:

“Does anyone realize Scott will die if not taken to a hospital and clinically detoxed? You f*cking idiots. Yoga great. 20 years of abuse?”

He’s also not happy that DDP captured Hall at his lowest for the world to see and questions whether Hall knew his phone call would be posted on Youtube for the world to hear:

“Did Scott know he was on that call live, that’s f*cked up. I would never have my friend saying over and over he lives on vodka, don’t work for me.”

“This is my friends life, not a PSA.You want the truth it’s not for you to know.”

Several of the tweets were later deleted.

Kevin Nash Talks About CM Punk’s Title Reign, Ryback, nWo DVD, Rick Rude & More

Kayfabe Wrestling Radio: Hosted by Alan Wojcik & Spug
Listen Live on Tuesday Nights 9pm ET on Wildtalkradio.com
Listen to the Kevin Nash interview here (.MP3)

Former WWE, WCW and TNA Legend “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash joined Kayfabe Wrestling Radio Tuesday Night. In a nearly 40 minute interview he talked about his film career and two of his releases coming to DVD soon (Rock of Ages and Magic Mike), the difference between doing a fan-fest as opposed to what it’s like with WWE or WCW, his views on the NWO DVD release coming soon, has he been contacted to participate with the WWE Network, what does he think of CM Punk’s lengthy title run, what Rick Rude instilled in him coming up, his views on social networking on wrestling today, and much more.

With the New World Order DVD coming soon, does he like that fans of the era can relive it and see new footage of what was done: “I think the body of work still stands out. A lot of it, because we participated in; even though we did it, we’ve never seen it back. There have been so many matches and segments and things that we haven’t seen that sometimes, especially with the production that the WWE has, when they put something together, it’s usually an incredible piece and you sit there and kind of relive it again. You go ‘Oh yeah, forgot about that’. So, I look forward to watching those pieces because it does bring back a lot of memories.

Does he like doing the seminars and working with the up and coming generation: ‘The way I look at it, I was fortunate enough to have guys like (Rick) Rude and (Curt) Hennig and Jake (Roberts) kinda guide me, watch me and critique what I did. So, I mean, if somebody asked me to watch them, I’d definitely do it; I don’t think I’ll be able to give them much of a critique on what they should have done from a trained wrestling standpoint. But as far as telling a story, that’s the number one thing; and that’s what I ask a young guy, ‘What was the story you were trying to tell’ because that is the basis for what we do/ It determines what we’re going to do as far as movement to tell that story. A lot of guys have gotten away from telling stories, they’re more into doing spots and I think that’s kind of hurt the business.”

What he thinks of the lengthy Punk title run: “At the same time, with the progression of the character, and everything they’ve done, I think that he was the Straight Edge and now I mean he is, if you take last night’s show, there’s times when I say ‘That was cheap heat’ and then he finds a way to get out of it with good heat like when he backs off Ryback. I mean, he’s done just such a good job; he’s a good worker he’s great on the mic, and now he’s growing into the part and I don’t see how they could possibly even function and conceivably do three hours of a show without him. And the thing is, the one thing is if you can make the belt mean something then that person can, especially from that heel persona, look over his shoulder and say ‘Oh yeah? Well, if I’m not the best, why do I have this and why have I had it this long?’

What did he learn from Rick Rude and what is lacking from today’s wrestling: Number one, first and foremost, he was an entertainer, but when he did a lot of things to tell a story, I mean he got heat; he was a believable bad ass and he was a dangerous human being. I think that’s one thing missing from a lot of the characters right now; I just don’t believe that those characters right now can physically hurt me. I mean Ryback’s a big dude but Ryback’s not much taller than Phil (CM Punk). I mean Goldberg was 6’4”, 305 lbs.; it was just a different era of guys I think one thing I saw from Ryback last night (vs Tensai at RAW) when did couldn’t do his finisher a couple of times; it’s nothing against him, he was put into that situation and he probably thought he could get him and he didn’t get him, but at the same time, no body is using that spear right now and they’re chanting ‘Goldberg’. To me, go with it. He could use the spear; no one else is using it. He could spear a big guy, it’s like anything else. I mean I used to use the big boot on Yoko(zuna), because there’s no way I could powerbomb him. I always had a secondary finished for a guy you just couldn’t physically put into it. I don’t think it took anything away from him cause the coverage on the announce was Tensai’s experience let him block those two attempts. But if he’d had the spear or a back-up, secondary thing already established, I think it would have helped him out. .”
