Kevin Nash Talks About Leaving TNA, Retirement, HBK

Ringside Radio with Kevin Nash
Hosts: Scott Fishman and Nathan Starling
Airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST at
Full interview available at RingsideRadio.com.

Scott Fishman and Nathan Starling spoke with Kevin Nash Wednesday night on Ringside Radio in one of his first interviews since his contract with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling expired. Here are some highlights of what Nash said about:

Why He Left TNA & What’s Next For Him: “I was never given a contract to sign. We never had the discussion… I think that they were involved in a couple of other things. I mean TNA is a small company and I think some other things came up and I just slipped between the cracks. Even before that I signed my contract 21 days after my deal was up. I guess maybe they thought I would just wait patiently. ….Somebody has owned me since I was 30 years old. I just wanted to see what it was like to wake up in the morning and not have to answer to somebody. It is pretty sweet.”

Whether Shawn Michaels retiring has any influence on a decision: “When it comes down to it if I worked a minimal schedule I would work five days a month with TNA and those five days are basically 70 miles from my house so it’s not like I’m on the road. If something happens at home I could be home in an hour. It’s a completely different scenario and a completely different situation. It wasn’t like I was going to Australia or anything like that. It’s good to be home right now.”

If He Considers Himself Retired: “Am I retired? Name one wrestler that is retired…..So I don’t think any of us ever retire. I just think you just take time off. I’ve seen Hulk do it for years. Take time off and low and behold a four or five guys get hurt some place and your value goes up 20 percent.”

His Final Night in TNA: : “Storyline wise it was great. I mean Sting and I were leaving. Emotional wise it was pretty easy to play the part that night. I got buddies there. One thing in this business is you never say goodbye. Somewhere down the line you see each other again. Life goes on.”

The Immortal Faction: “I was there the night they put it together. If they go with heat and real heat and let these guys run the company for quite some time. The thing about the NWO is we probably got heat on the company for six months. Now the biggest problem in the business right now is Fortune got heat off the old ECW guys. They got a good set of heat on those guys on TV when they beat them up and split everybody open. The next week those guys came back and made a comeback on them. So any heat they got the week before was nullified. Joe Hamilton told me a long time ago when I was breaking in was, ‘The thing about heat is it’s like a hot air balloon. The longer you let that flame go underneath that hot air balloon the higher it rises.

“Every time a babyface touches that hot air balloon, as far as touching the heat or touching the heel, you draw back down. If you go week in and week out of going back and forth, the balloon never leaves the ground. The thing about heat is you know it works when the babyfaces in the company walk into the booking room and start complaining.

“When the guys that aren’t the marks start complaining you know that the marks are already sick of it. That leads the buyrates and that leads to people start pulling for the babyfaces to pull it together. If you appease the people and the babyfaces, you will never get heat. Heats is always drawing money.”

That was the first 10 minutes of the half hour must-listen interview.

Other topics discussed include:

If he would go back to working behind the scenes as booker?

His thoughts on the WWE’s “Stand Up for WWE” campaign.

What’s wrong with the business today?

Thoughts on new talent getting too much too soon.

One opponent he would want to face again in a wrestling ring. Hint: He is a legend he met at WrestleMania.

His son Tristan’s music career and much more.

Also, on this week’s blockbuster show is WrestleReunion’s Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff and Dragon Gate USA’s Gabe Sapolsky. Ringside Radio airs 8 p.m. Wednesday nights on Blog Talk Radio. Visit www.ringsideradio.com or www.blogtalkradio.com/ringsideradio to listen.

Kevin Nash’s Reason For Leaving TNA, Team 3D Return Criticized

— Kevin Nash said goodbye to the TNA Wrestling locker room at last week’s set of iMPACT! television tapings. While he’s still listed on the company website, the belief is that he is legitimately leaving the organization because he noted to friends that he was asked to take a pay cut and declined to sign a new contract.

— There was much head shaking over TNA Wrestling re-signing Team 3D to new contracts. While Brother Devon is quite popular in the locker room and Brother Ray is considered good in a backstage role, many feel there is no money to be made in bringing the two back as a tag team, let alone as singles competitors.

“They shouldn’t have been re-signed,” said one company source. “No one (in management) gets its.”

To clarify, a number of people in management didn’t want them re-signed, but TNA president Dixie Carter felt otherwise as it is said that she “really wanted to bring the duo back.”

Kevin Nash Confirms He’s Leaving TNA, Puts Over Hogan

TNA star Kevin Nash posted the following on Twitter, putting over Hulk Hogan for appearing at Bond For Glory just days after another back surgery and sheds some light on his departure from TNA:

“Hogan is a beast, to see the cuts on his backa nd to see his pain tonight tells me that I was right when I saw the Hulkster as a mark and wanted to get in this crazy biz. Mad respect, Terry.

“If you were a fan of mine, please stay true to TNA. My deal went south on money, not respect for the guys I worked with or the production crew that busts their ass every week. I’m not out of wrestling, just don’t want to be owned.

“To the boys that I love, I will do everything I can to make you money outside of TNA. Please, guys, remember we’re 1099, the world is ours. Goodnight. I have my last Impact tomorrow. I can’t express how much you all mean to me. I love you all and thank you.”

TNA Belief On Who “They” Is, Hardy’s Fiancée Asks For Privacy

— TNA Wrestling officials are hopeful that the disclosure of “They” at Bound for Glory will hook a number of fans to purchase the pay-per-view event. The widespread assumption amongst the TNA locker room is that “They” will be revealed as a combination of Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff and possibly Jeff Jarrett.

Though D’Angelo Dinero cut what was described as a ‘heelish promo’ on Thursday’s iMPACT!, many believe he, Sting and Kevin Nash will turn babyface once “They” is revealed. (source: Pro Wrestling Torch)

— Jeff Hardy’s fiancée, Beth Britt, who is pregnant with the TNA Superstar’s first child, released a message on Twitter yesterday asking that people respect their privacy.

“Been hearing some rumblings about this so I’ll only address it this once. Do not assume that anyone on the Internet that is talking about or answering questions regarding me & my pregnancy has any “inside information”. I can GUARANTEE that the few people who do know any actual facts ARE NOT talking about it to people they don’t know, namely on the Internet & in some silly Q&A forum. There’s a reason that I haven’t answered any questions about the pregnancy. The reason is that this is probably the one thing that we’ll be able to hold sacred & keep somewhat a secret from the public, just so that we can enjoy something so special, even if only for a short time. “Privacy” is something that doesn’t really exist in Jeff’s profession, much less his personal life. I’m just trying to hold on to what I can in MY personal life, & this is it. Respect OUR privacy on this. The people that know anything about us & this pregnancy are doing just that. People that are claiming to know, or are speculating, have NO idea.”

Who’s Backstage At Impact?, Hall & Nash Comment On Reunion

— Rob Van Dam, Jeff Hardy, Sting and Mick Foley are backstage at iMPACT! and advertised to appear during tonight’s show. All four superstars were left off last night’s Destination X pay-per-view. It’s worth noting that in the company website’s preview for tonight’s show, they weren’t initially advertised to appear. However, their names have since been listed.

— Last night’s pay-per-view saw a reunion of the Wolfpack as Kevin Nash turned on Eric Young to help Scott Hall and Syxx-Pac pick up the victory, thus giving them contracts with the company. Both Hall and Nash commented on their reunion.

Nash wrote on Twitter: “Wolfpac is back! very proud of Scott. last night will be etched in my memory forever. dont forget to watch impact 9-11 on spike. I’ll be watching 2nite. worth watching just 2 see how good Scott looked at ppv if u missed it.”

Hall wrote on Facebook: “And THE BAND IS BACK TOGETHER….did you really expect anything else? Don’t blink…who knows what will happen next…”

Apparently, WWE doesn’t own the term Wolfpac when they purchased WCW intellectual property, thus meaning TNA is free to use it.

— The TV Guide preview for tonight’s iMPACT! is as follows: “Fallout from the Destination X pay-per-view event, including AJ Styles’ title defense.”

Carter Comments On Whether There Will Be An Impact Replay

Rambo is currently scheduled to air during TNA’s former time slot.

— As seen last night at Destination X, Scott Hall and Syxx-Pac faced Kevin Nash and Eric Young in a tag team match with their future in TNA on the line. Ultimately, Nash turned on Young and helped “The Band” pick up the victory, which gave them contracts with the company. Both Hall and Waltman have since been added to TNA’s roster page.

— Jesse Godderz of Big Brother attended last night’s Destination X pay-per-view.

Video From Inside The Wolpack’s TNA Dressing Room

Last Night’s Impact Rating, TNA Wrestlers Not Going On UK Tour

sources: www.f4wonline.com, www.pwtorch.com

— Last night’s episode of TNA iMPACT! drew a 1.26 cable rating, the same number as last week. The show drew 1.9 million viewers overall. The opening quarter hour with Hulk Hogan, Kurt Angle, AJ Styles & Ric Flair and final two quarter hours tied for the highest rated segment of the night with a 1.32.

— Besides Awesome Kong, both Alex Shelley and Bobby Lashley are not going on TNA’s tour of the UK. Shelley will not be going on the tour due to ongoing disc injuries. Likewise, Lashley isn’t going because he’s fighting for the mixed martials arts promotion Strikeforce next weekend.

— Kevin Nash is said to be unhappy with “The Band” nickname TNA bestowed upon him, Scott Hall and Sean Waltman. They used the old Blue Brothers movie joke about putting “the band back together” several years ago in World Championship Wrestling, but Nash now feels it’s ridiculously dated.

Lacey Causes Show To Be Retaped, Flair Working On 2nd Book

— Jeremy Borash said yesterday morning during an appearance on the Pain Clinic radio show that TNA shot an episode of Spin Cycle two weeks ago with Lacey Von Erich and Kevin Nash but it ended up being much too raunchy to air. TNA Talent Unhappy, Nash Contest Dropped, ODB’s New Deal

— As seen last week on iMPACT!, TNA President Dixie Carter essentially said during her speech at the top of the hour that anyone who wasn’t on board with her recent changes to the organization should find work elsewhere. As it turns out, five wrestlers had asked for their releases from the company in recent weeks, including Frankie Kazarian (a.k.a. Suicide) and Homicide — we don’t have the names of the three other wrestlers. All five were turned down. (VIDEO: Dixie Carter’s Speech)

— TNA has dropped Kevin Nash’s search for his first-ever female valet, the Big Sexy World Tour. The winner would have received an all-expenses-paid trip to next month’s Final Resolution pay-per-view in Orlando and accompanied Nash to the ring for his match that night.

— As reported earlier, reigning TNA Women’s Knockout Champion ODB recently inked a multi-year deal with the organization. Her contract renewal with the organization actually came as a surprise to friends as she had been discussing jumping to World Wrestling Entertainment when her previous contract expired in mid-November. She had been telling people the past two months that she didn’t think management even realized her contract was coming due because no one had mentioned it to her.

Several Backstage Blowups In TNA This Past Week

There have been a number of backstage altercations in TNA Wrestling over the past week or two. Here’s the latest:

— There was a massive edit for last week’s TNA iMPACT! as Lacey Von Erich fell flat on her face when she ran to the ring to do a run-in during the Knockouts elimination match. The issues with Von Erich don’t end there as she suffered a minor hamstring injury while training at the Impact Zone and made it known all night that she was in pain. She then reportedly told a male trainer to go and get her an ice pack and the guy ended up walking in to see a half-dressed Awesome Kong who was obviously not happy. We’re told Kong grabbed Von Erich and took her to the trainers room where she proceeded to cut a promo on her in front of Kurt Angle. When Von Erich went to TNA management to complain, they ended up siding with Kong.

— According to the PWTorch Newsletter, AJ Styles went off on Vince Russo and was frustrated over “what he argued was dismal booking of him early in his run as champion.” Styles feels he’s been made to look like a weak champion by Russo. Samoa Joe also had some beef with TNA management, but it was not wrestling-related, Samoa Joe complained that TNA blew-off of a commitment to use his friend’s catering business at the Bound For Glory PPV in California. Joe complaining about catering .. insert joke here.

— Chris Sabin suffered a concussion at the TNA Impact TV tapings on Wednesday night in Orlando, FL. Sabin’s concussion took place during a tag team match between The Motor City Machineguns and Team 3D when Sabin landed awkwardly. Sabin reportedly told people backstage that he was out cold during the match, but somehow regained his composure and finished the finish. We’re told Kevin Nash blew up backstage about the incident and was overhead yelling at Team 3D for not killing the original finish as he felt Sabin’s health should have been the first priority. Nash felt that as veterans, Team 3D should have made that call on the fly and that someone in production could have given a cue to the referee to end the match. While it probably won’t air, Nash did walk out in front of the Impact Zone and cut a promo about how upset he was that the match continued as Sabin was laying on the ring apron. Sabin was said to be feeling much better after the taping had finished. Nash is being praised by other wrestlers with the company for looking out for the safety of his coworkers.

Angle, Nash & Sid Starring In Straight-to-DVD Zombie Movie

Kurt Angle has landed another acting gig and will be starring in a straight-to-DVD independent zombie movie, titled “River of Darkness.” It gets better.

Set to be released some time next year on DVD, the synopsis at DreadCentral.com reads:

Unspeakable evil has fallen on a quiet river town. Sheriff Logan [Angle] is thrust into a chilling nightmare of death and mayhem that paralyzes the town. He then learns of the community’s seedy past and the evil that has risen from purgatory to exact revenge on the town. He is confronted by the spirits of old river squatters, “The Jacobs Boys,” who possess the very essence of evil.

The zombie Jacobs boys will be played by none other than Kevin Nash and Psycho Sid Vicious. WOW.

The movie will also feature an appearance by Ray Lloyd, better known to WCW fans as Glacier.
