Kevin Nash Comments On The Business, WWE NXT, The Hall Of Fame, And More

Kevin Nash recently spoke with Scott Fishman of the Miami Herald ahead of tonight’s Legends of Wrestling Night at Marlins Park where the Miami Marlins host the San Diego Padres.

During his interview, he spoke about a number of topics including the currents state of the business, his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame earlier this year, WWE NXT and more.

If you want to check out the full interview Nash had with Scott Fishman in the Miami Herald, you can do so by clicking on this link, check out highlights below:

On why he believes the business is in an up cycle right now:

“I think a lot of the credit has to go to Paul Levesque [Triple H],” Nash said. “He really understands the business. One of the most poignant things he ever said to me was, ‘It’s not only the fact we have to replace the guys in the ring, but we have to teach the guys with the handhelds and steady cams. I’ve got guys who have been carrying cameras for 30 years now. They aren’t going to be doing this forever.’

“What they’ve done with NXT and Full Sail [University] is basically also focus on the production. People don’t realize how important the cameras are. This is a hands-on experience and proving ground, A to Z, from people in the truck and all the way up. It’s about pushing this product and having it continually grow.”

On WWE’s developmental system (NXT):

“They have built a basic farm system,” Nash said. “There isn’t anybody in the realm in competing with them. They have taken the market. It now goes Raw, SmackDown and NXT. There are now three brands. There are a lot of guys I watch today. I’ve been a fan of [Dolph] Ziggler since day one. I saw the big 6-foot-8 kid down at NXT. [Big Cass], I think really has a chance. He is a big guy and athletic. I think he has a chance to make it.”

On his induction into the 2015 WWE Hall of Fame:

“It’s an incredible honor,” he said. “For me, I was probably more excited to walk down the aisle in front of almost 80,000 people in the stadium, but it was an incredible honor. I’m in the cream of the crop.”

Sgt. Slaughter Talks Rock vs. Brock Lesnar Rumors, Kevin Nash/WWE & More

WWE Hall Of Famer Sgt. Slaughter recently spoke with Scott Fishman of the Miami Herald about a number of subjects. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On a possible match between The Rock and Brock Lesnar: “That would be an incredible match. Especially now that both have matured in their businesses.”

On recruiting Kevin Nash to WWE: “Whether Shawn Michaels called him or not, I did discover Diesel in a box of tapes one time. I showed it to Vince McMahon, and he told me to give him a tryout…I’ve been around a long time. Coming up the ranks I’ve got to see those who were sons of professional wrestlers get in the ring when they were five years old. I would wrestle around with them. Guys like The Rock and Randy Orton. Just to see some of the other Samoan kids now. That’s all they thought about was professional wrestling. They would get in the ring, and we would work out with them. Now to see them blossoming the proper way to get into pro wrestling and sports entertainment business, just makes your heart feel good.”

Wolfpac Interview: Undertaker Almost Jumping To WCW, Chris Jericho Being A “Whining Puss”

Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Sean Waltman were recently interviewed by Justin Barrasso for Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard blog.

With rumors swirling over the past several weeks that Shawn Michaels was close to signing with WCW at the height of the Monday Night War, Nash reveals that it was actually The Undertaker who was close to jumping ship when he became a free agent in 2000. The Undertaker transforming into the American Badass biker was more than just a gimmick refresh, it was actually a move to reposition him as a more generic character that he could have brought over to WCW.

“We had ‘Taker close. All of a sudden he wasn’t the Deadman. He became the American Badass for a reason. That Deadman wasn’t going to f—in’ come to WCW. He would have been the biker character and gone by Mark Calaway.

“All along, I was trying to get guys money, I was trying to get guys paid. And what happened was Vince started giving huge guarantees to the Shawns and Undertakers and those guys and said, ‘I can’t lose my core guys.’”

Chris Jericho has been a vocal critic of Hall, Nash and Waltman over the years, labeling them as one of the main causes behind the demise of WCW. Hall and Waltman think Jericho needs to move on and enjoy the success he’s achieved in the business. Scott Hall said,

“Jericho’s just a whining puss. If you have any talent, you can’t be held back and you can’t be held down. Jericho just whines and whines. He’s gone on to be tremendously successful, and he’s still got a hard on for us. I don’t get it, but nobody makes headlines for saying, ‘Those guys are great guys. You talk about what d—s we are, and then some guy sits down and interviews you.”

Waltman worked closely with Jericho in WCW and WWE and reveals Jericho got a rude awakening when he arrived in WWE.

“Jericho realized, once he got to WWE, ‘Holy s—, I don’t know what the f— I’m doing here. That’s why Vince made him come to me and run his matches by me, even he was working with Boss Man or something. You think you know, until you finally know.”

There’s much more to the interview – including Nash reacting to reports that Vince McMahon was furious with his WWE Hall of Fame speech and Hall and Nash’s jump to WCW.

WWE Changes Plans For WrestleMania 31 Main Event During The Show, Kevin Nash Injury Rumor

– The original plan for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship main event between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 31 on Sunday night was for the match to go about 35 minutes long, including entrance. Because the pay-per-view ran long, WWE ended up cutting some time off of the match. They also cut out a Bray Wyatt vs. Undertaker video out of the broadcast.

– It was rumored that Kevin Nash suffered an injury during the nWo and D-X run-in spot in the Triple H vs. Sting match at WrestleMania 31 on Sunday night. Nash addressed the rumor on social media, joking that the only injury he suffered was to his feelings because Billy Gunn can still “go.” Below is a tweet Nash posted after the show that deals with the subject.

Jim Ross Blog: WM31 “Go-Home” Angle On RAW, Sting/HHH, Nash’s WWE HOF Induction

Jim Ross is back with the latest edition of his online blog, sharing his thoughts on the WrestleMania 31 “go-home” edition of RAW and more. Below are highlights:

On Kevin Nash’s WWE Hall Of Fame Induction: “Congrats to my friend Kevin Nash on getting the nod to go into the WWE HOF This Saturday where he will be inducted by Mick Foley. Back in the early days of Kevin’s career in WCW many of the politically charged power brokers would not give the athletic 7 footer the time of day. I put him on my WSB Radio Show that aired on Sunday nights and he made an impact because he could talk, was glib and highly intelligent. It was at that point that the higher up’s discovered a side of Kev that they never took the time to to know and the rest is history. Kevin was one of the best “attraction wrestlers” of his generation and made an impact in front of and behind the camera in both WWE and WCW. I’m proud of him and even prouder to call him my friend.”

On the final segment on Monday’s RAW: “@HeymanHustle was once again stellar. Some folks liked the closing foreshadowing of the TV show with Lesnar and Reigns struggling over the WWE Title while others did not. Not my hill to die upon but I’m pleased that we did not see any physicality between the two main event talents in this Sunday’s WrestleMania. The build to WM31 has been a mixed bag with both good and not so good but it also seems to have become a predictable mantra for many fans to discuss. I’m of the mindset to watch the event from home and then judge the show on it’s actual merits and not on what I perceive the build to be. Could the build have been better? Absolutely. Does the build mean the actual presentation Sunday on the WWE Network is doomed for failure? Absolutely, not.”

On the Sting/Triple H angle on RAW: “Thought the Sting/HHH business was just enough and fully expect this match to exceed expectations. Can’t express how happy that I am for Sting to be getting his WrestleMania Moment which is well deserved to one of the best guys in the business. We go back to his Blade Runner days in Mid South with Cowboy Bill Watts.”

The Undertaker Turns 50, Kevin Nash’s Inductor, Reigns Eats A Snickers

– The Undertaker turns 50 years old today. He was born on March 24, 1965.

– This Saturday night, Kevin Nash will apparently be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Mick Foley, not Shawn Michaels as expected. Foley tweeted after RAW:

https://twitter.com/realmickfoley/status/580244461969485824

– WWE posted a sponsored tweet of Roman Reigns backstage at RAW eating a Snickers candy bar with Renee Young. So we made it better.

Kevin Nash Confirmed For WWE Hall Of Fame

It’s official – former WWE & WCW Champion Kevin Nash has now been confirmed as the final member of the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015.

Rolling Stone broke the news on Monday, with the WWE website following up with their own announcement. Nash told Rolling Stone:

“I’ve been called just about everything, but this is the first time I’ll be called a Hall of Famer. It’s nice,” Nash laughs. “It’s been a long 25 years, but this business has been great to me. Without wrestling, there’s no way I’d be where I am today. I’d probably own a strip club someplace.”

There has been a lot of speculation as to whether he’d be going in as himself or as his WWE character, “Big Daddy Cool” Diesel. Nash gave his take on it:

“I would prefer to go in as Kevin Nash, you know, the human being,”

WWE confirmed that he will in fact be going in as Kevin Nash.

*Spoiler* Final WWE HOF Inductee Revealed

It’s no secret at this point that Kevin Nash will be announced as the final member of the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015. However, up until today, it was unknown whether he would be going in as Kevin Nash or Diesel.

Much like his former tag team partner Scott Hall being inducted as “Razor Ramon,” it will be Diesel that enters the Hall of Fame this year, paving the way for Scott Hall and Kevin Nash to one day be inducted as part of the nWo.

He will be inducted by longtime friend and rival, fellow Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels.

The following t-shirt designs leaked online earlier today confirming the news of Diesel’s forthcoming induction:

Jim Ross Blog: Samoa Joe To WWE?, Sting’s RAW Performance, Zbyszko & Nash In WWE HOF

Jim Ross updated the blog on his official website on Tuesday, writing about the Samoa Joe to WWE rumors, Sting’s performance on Monday’s RAW and some of the inductees in this year’s WWE Hall Of Fame class.

Below are some highlights from JR’s latest blog:

On Samoa Joe: “I had a great conversation Monday night with @SamoaJoe for a future podcast. Joe is one of the most intelligent and perceptive athletes that I’ve spoken with on our podcast and I certainly hope that WWE signs him as he could be invaluable in multiple areas for the wrestling side of the company IMO. It was the first time that we had talked in over a decade when I told him that, at that time, he wasn’t ready to be signed to a WWE contract to which Joe said motivated him and that he respected my honesty. Over the years I’ve become a big fan of his physical style but him getting trained in the Japanese style of wrestling helped him a great deal to become the star that he is today.”

On Sting: “Great seeing Sting on WWE TV which, for the longest time, I thought would likely never occur. Steve Borden is one of the best men in the biz and has always been a class act and one of my favorite people to work with over the years including his early days working in Mid South for Cowboy Bill Watts. I am beyond thrilled to see Sting finally get his ‘WrestleMania Moment’ this year as it is well earned and will be a moment that I will personally celebrate with The Stinger. Good things do often times happen to good people even in the wacky world of ‘rasslin.”

On Larry Zbyszko and Kevin Nash in the WWE Hall Of Fame: “Happy for Larry Zybszko going into the WWE HOF with Bruno Sammartino set to induct him. We all have our mentors and Bruno was Larry’s and the two Pittsburghers made money and had excellent matches together including the much ballyhooed Shea Stadium event back in the day. Larry was one of the more underrated broadcasters to work in the wrestling biz, too.”

“Sounds as if Kevin Nash will be the final inductee into the 2015 WWE HOF class and for that I’m happy. When Kevin couldn’t get the time of day when he first started in WCW, I used him my WSB Sunday night radio show and everyone soon found out that the former Tennessee Vol could talk and talk well. We’ve been friends ever since.”

Final WWE HOF Class Of 2015 Inductee, Hall’s Advice For IC Title Ladder Match Competitors

– Last night’s WWE RAW ranked #2 for the evening amongst “non-sporting events” on Nielson’s Twitter rankings. ABC’s Dancing With the Stars took the top spot. Approximately 1.873 million people were tweeting about RAW, which is down from 2.696 million.

– Speaking of last night’s RAW from Des Moines, Iowa, it was the only RAW this month that was not a sellout.

– It’s expected that WWE will announce Kevin Nash as the final member of the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015, with Shawn Michaels scheduled to induct him.

– Nash’s longtime friend, WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall, tweeted the following to the participants of the IC Title Ladder Match at WrestleMania:
