Stone Cold Reacts to Jason Jordan – Kurt Angle Storyline

WWE Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin has released another episode of his podcast, The Steve Austin Show, in which he and Wade Keller of Pro Wrestling Torch discussed this past week’s episode of Monday Night RAW. Austin and Keller discussed the storyline between RAW General Manager Kurt Angle and now-former SmackDown Live brand member Jason Jordan, as it was revealed that Jordan is Angle’s long-lost son.

Here’s what Austin had to say about the program between Angle and Jordan:

“I like the fact that they are shooting a hell of a big angle. They got a lot of negative response but hey man it was a big-time response seemingly from everybody”

“Big time angle, lot of rub for the kid. He’s a good-looking guy, read about him when I was coming over here to talk to you on the podcast. Outstanding credentials as an amateur. Could possibly have a bright future ahead of him and if it is done off the back of this angle, more power to the kid, good luck to him”

“Is this leading to a betrayal of Kurt’s trust or somebody trying to set him up to oust him from his position? And will it result in Kurt Angle returning to the ring to wrestle at a big-time Pay-Per-View?”

WWE hypes next week’s RAW

Several matches were set up for next week’s RAW on Monday night. Sasha Banks and Bayley approached RAW GM Kurt Angle backstage and both said that they deserve a shot at Alexa Bliss’ RAW Women’s Championship. Bayley stated that she has defeated Alexa Bliss twice recently and Sasha Banks noted that Bliss got herself counted out to retain the title against her at WWE Great Balls of Fire. Kurt Angle then made a match for next Monday between Banks and Bayley to determine who will face Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam for the RAW Women’s Championship.

Finn Balor faced Elias Samson on Monday night and was looking like he was going to be victorious. The action spilled outside the ring while Balor was in control and Elias Samson grabbed his guitar and bashed Balor in the head with it. The strike was so brutal that he busted Balor’s head open. On next week’s episode of RAW, Balor will look to get his revenge in a No DQ match against Samson.

Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins kicked off Monday’s RAW. Ambrose still doesn’t fully trust Rollins as a result of him turning his back on The Shield. Rollins asked Ambrose to get it over with and begged Ambrose to hit him with a chair. Ambrose refused and threw the chair out of the ring. The Miztourage then came down to the ring and beat the hell out of both Rollins and Ambrose with chairs. Later in the show, Ambrose and Rollins had a conversation with RAW GM Kurt Angle backstage. Angle said that they could face any two members of The Miztourage on next week’s RAW. Ambrose said that they wanted to face all three and Angle made the match official. It will be Ambrose & Rollins against The Miz, Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel next week on RAW.

Below is the video promo that WWE has released for next week’s episode of RAW.

RAW Viewership Increases For Kurt Angle’s Announcement

This week’s episode of WWE RAW averaged 3,153,000 viewers, which is up from last week’s 3,009,000 viewers for the post-Great Balls of Fire episode.

The first hour of this week’s show averaged 3,140,000 viewers, the second hour rose to 3,237,000 viewers, and the final hour averaged 3,083,000 viewers.

RAW was #1 in cable viewership for the night, and #2 in the 18-49 demographic behind Love & Hip-Hop.

Photo: WWE Hinted at Kurt Angle – Jason Jordan Announcement Before RAW Started

On last night’s (Mon. July 17, 2017) episode of WWE Monday Night RAW, it was announced that the highly-anticipated secret that RAW General Manager Kurt Angle had been hiding for the past few weeks, was that Jason Jordan was his long-lost son.

The former SmackDown Live Tag Team Champ, who served as one half of American Alpha, Jason Jordan will now be part of RAW, while his now-former partner Chad Gable stays on SmackDown Live. While many fans were wondering what the announcement Angle was going to make could be, the WWE actually (intentionally or not) dropped a major hint as to what it was before the show even started.

As fans were packing into the arena just before the show, the American Alpha symbol could be seen on the jumbo-screen above the ring:

Jim Ross On Kurt Angle & Jason Jordan Storyline, The Mae Young Classic, Braun Strowman

Jim Ross posted his latest blog earlier today and here are some highlights:

Kurt Angle and Jason Jordan storyline:

“Might just be me but after watching the Renee Young interview, nicely done BTW, with Kurt Angle and his ‘son’ Jason Jordan on the @WWENetwork after RAW, I can easily see where Jordan and  ‘Dad” could be terrific villains down the road.”

Mae Young Classic:

“Loved being a part of the Mae Young Classic that saw me in  Orlando for six days last week interviewing all 32 women representing 13 countries plus Lita and I called 30 bouts over two nights.  I’ve never been in a pro wresting environment where there was so much natural passion and motivation from the roster whose only agenda was to have great matches and take a giant step forward in building women’s wrestling.

I talk about ‘The Mae’ on this week’s podcast and will share that I never dreamed of how personally impactful this event would become to me until I became immersed in it throughout the interview process on Monday and Tuesday.  I enjoyed working with @AmyDumas and @Madusa_rocks very much. I fed off their passion without question and you will hear it if you listen to our broadcast.

As I understand it, the reason the broadcasts will begin airing August 28 instead of sooner is because the shows need through, post production/editing to add all the elements that are needed with the tournament format and personality profiles, etc. The finals will be live on the WWE Network on Tuesday night September 12 from Las Vegas following SD Live.

I’m guessing that several women will likely earn a WWE contract based on their performances in the tournament.”

Braun Strowman:

“Based on what I saw Monday night on Raw regarding Braun Strowman, I can easily see WWE going all the way with the giant athlete from North Carolina. A Lesnar-Strowman high level contest down the road is going to make a compelling main event and could elevate Strowman to the rarified air community.

Seems to me, simply by watching as  fan, that when Braun walked away from the ambulance crash of a few weeks ago, that he walked away as a ‘character ‘face’ or a least that’s  how I took it. Bottom line, it will be challenging for many fans to truly dislike this huge man. WWE has done a really nice job building Strowman to his current level.”

Kurt Angle Reveals The One Reason He Almost Never Signed With WWE

After over a decade away from WWE, Kurt Angle has finally returned home where he belongs. The former Olympic Gold Medal winner was brought back back in April as he was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame just prior to WrestleMania 33. Soon after, Vince McMahon officially announced angle as the new General Manager of Monday Night RAW, bringing Angle back to weekly WWE programming once again.

Recently, a WWE Network special entitled WWE 24 – Kurt Angle: Homecoming revealed some of the backstory behind the former WWE Champion and Vince McMahon’s relationship, and how Angle’s entrance into the world of professional wrestling came about. Per Angle, just after his Olympic Gold Medal win in 1996 he was contacted by Vince McMahon for a possible signing. Angle initially turned the contract offer down and almost ruined his chances of ever being a WWE Superstar because he refused to lose to who he was brought up to believe were ‘fake’ wrestlers:

“In 1996, after I won the gold medal, Vince McMahon said he’d like to meet with me. He threw a contract at me right away. It was a 10-year deal. It was more money than I ever saw in my lifetime at that time. I looked at the contract and stared back at Vince and said, ‘Mr. McMahon, thank you for the offer. I hope you know I’m an Olympic gold medalist, so I could never lose.’ I didn’t hear from Vince McMahon after that. I didn’t get it. I didn’t understand what this was. As a kid, I was taught by my brothers and coaches, ‘don’t watch that stuff. It’s fake. You’re real.’ So I never did.”

After a while Angle seemed to have a change of heart and contacted then-head of WWE Talent Relations Jim Ross, who told him the contract offer from he and McMahon’s previous meeting was no longer available but he was more than welcome to come down and try out just like everyone else. Although he almost quite halfway through the first day of training, Angle impressed WWE officials so much he was offered a contract on day three of his tryout.

Despite having dropped the idea of never losing in a WWE ring, Angle still was hesitant when it came to hearing some of Vince McMahon’s ideas for his character:

“I said, ‘look, you’re this hero. At the same time, when we bring you into WWE, you’re going to be a heel, so to speak, because you’re so good. You’ve accomplished so much. You’re above the business. ‘I’m a real wrestler.'” McMahon continued, “and I said, ‘what’s going to happen is people are really going to boo the hell out of you.’ ‘Oh no, Vince, that’s not going to happen.'”

Kurt Angle and Triple H at WWE Hall of Fame 2017 ceremony.

After hearing the negative reception Angle received from not only WWE fans around the world, but fans of his own hometown of Pittsburgh, Angle was finally able to admit McMahon knew what he was talking about:

“I doubted Vince McMahon the whole time. I doubted him from Day One. I said, ‘there’s no way in hell they’re going to boo me. There’s no way in hell they’re going to disrespect me. I’m an Olympic gold medalist. These people are going to love me.’ And he said, ‘no, they’re going to be the opposite.’ And he was right.”

Kurt Angle on Which WWE Superstars Have Asked Him For Advice

WWE Hall Of Famer and Monday Night RAW General Manager Kurt Angle recently did an interview with the Dallas Observer to talk about a variety of professional wrestling topics, including which WWE Superstars have asked him for advice backstage since returning to the company, today’s in-ring action compared to what was going on in the ’00s, and the popularity of the new GLOW series on Netflix. Here’s what he had to say:

Which WWE Superstars have asked him for advice:

“Well, it’s not only the wrestler’s responsibility but also the writing staff. There are guys today that I love. Sami Zayn and the Fashion Police are a couple examples of guys who approached me for advice on how to improve their characters. It’s about taking chances. Rarely do fans approach me and say, ‘I remember the classic match you had against so-and-so.’ Instead, fans usually say to me, ‘I remember that time you drove a milk truck to the ring. Or when you wore a tiny cowboy hat and sang with Stone Cold Steve Austin.’ It’s the moments that the fans love and remember. It goes well beyond just wrestling.”

Difference between today’s in-ring action and what was happening in the ’00s:

“When I started, I was taught to begin each match with lots of action. Very few of our matches began with a traditional wrestling hold. The ‘Attitude Era’ was all about the action. It was big move after big move and lots of punches. Today, the wrestlers in the ring tell a better story. The boys and girls in the locker room can really wrestle and there is a great focus on storytelling and ring psychology. It’s sort of back to basics, but I think it’s a better style. The crowds today aren’t as bloodthirsty as they were back then.”

The rising popularity of Netflix’s GLOW series:

“I would say that GLOW’s popularity had an influence on us having women’s main event matches. But the WWE has been working on their women’s division for years, and we’ve already been leading up to having the girls main event TV shows. A few years ago, WWE made the decision to stop referring to the women wrestlers as ‘Divas.’

“When I was in WWE the first go-round, the women were having bikini pillow fights and it was all about the look of the girl. Now it’s all about their in-ring ability. GLOW is helping bring more attention to wrestling and women’s wrestling in particular. I think people who watch WWE will watch GLOW and vice-versa.”

Kurt Angle Wants Asuka on RAW

Kurt Angle sat down with Spanish-language media outlet Planeta Wrestling recently, to promote his involvement in the WWE 2k18 video game. Angle spoke on several issues, including the possibility of NXT women’s champion Asuka being called up to the Raw brand.

Asuka has recently mentioned through social media, that she will not be returning to NXT until suitable competition is found. An opponent will most likely be found for Asuka in time for Takeover: Brooklyn III, but a main roster call-up could still happen for Asuka in the next few months.

Kurt Angle Interview Highlights

(transcript via Wrestling Inc.)

On NXT Superstars he wants on RAW:

“Oh gosh, I really like that Asuka girl. I’m telling you, the girls have really come on strong. Watching her, I know she’s gonna make a huge impact when she comes up, and I really hope we get her on RAW.

On WWE Developmental:

“I think Triple H and the WWE have done an incredible job with NXT. They’re grooming these talents, they’re become stars before they even get on TV on RAW and SmackDown. Wow, that’s never happened before. You have to give credit to how they’ve been able to produce them. Whether they get them from theatre programs or independents, they bring them to NXT and they groom them. They get them ready for TV and it’s amazing how many talents are coming through NXT. That’ll continue to be their staple. that’s gonna be the way it goes and I like it. I like what they’re teaching them down there. And it’s not just the wrestling, it’s the persona, working on cutting promos, entrance themes – I mean you look at these entrances now: Finn Balor, Nakamura, Bayley, they’re just different now and larger than life. I really think the WWE has caught onto something really cool. Fans like the entrances just as much if not more than the matches, yes it’s true. So they’re on to something and I enjoy seeing it.”

On How Much Different WWE is Now From His Previous Stint:

“It’s different now, but in many good ways. The drug policy, the wellness policy, the way they cater to the athletes – it’s a lot of fun to be back. I wanted to come back – Bill Goldberg said last year, he spoke about him returning to WWE. It wasn’t about him, it was about his kids. I have three little ones that actually never have seen me wrestle. A six-year-old, four-year-old, and seven-month-old. And not only that, but I owed it to the WWE Universe to come back and end my career here, where I started it. A lot of fans have been asking for that for many years. So it isn’t about me coming back, it isn’t about me making money, it’s about the WWE Universe, the fans, and my kids that never watched me wrestle. I wanted them to see their dad and the light that my two older children have and the light that the rest of my family have. So it’s really not about me, it’s about them and I want to show them what daddy really can do.”

Kurt Angle WWE 2K18 Press Conference Video

Kurt Angle recently spoke about the upcoming WWE 2K18 video game and being included in the game as a pre-order bonus. Angle also discussed Seth Rollins, who will be featured on the brand new game from 2K Sports. Below is a video of the press conference and some highlights:

Having an issue with Seth Rollins’ actions in the WWE 2K18 announcement trailer:

“Let’s be clear though. I have a small bone to pick with Seth Rollins. You obviously saw the announcement trailer. Seth broke into the WWE Archives and disrespected history. Up in flames went the memories of many incredible WWE Legends and Hall of Famers, who have come before him. Guys like Andre the Giant, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, Ric Flair, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, [The] Undertaker, and many more. All I can say for now is just wait and see the pre-order announcement for the game, revenge may be on my mind.”

Being included in WWE 2K18 as a pre-order bonus

“I haven’t been in a WWE video game for more than a decade and I think it’s time to rewrite those records books. So today, I am very, very pleased to announce that I, Kurt Angle, will return to WWE in-ring action (virtually) for the first time in more than a decade through WWE 2k18. Oh it’s true. It’s damn true. It’s awesome to fall in the foot steps of many incredible pre-order characters before me, names like Bill Goldberg, Sting, Ultimate Warrior, and even Arnold Schwarzenegger. I also can’t wait to see all of you to play as my characters, to recreate all your favorite matches from my career, and wipe the floor with Seth Rollins.”

Kurt Angle Is The Pre-Order Bonus Character For WWE 2K18

Oh it’s true.. WWE Hall of Famer and RAW General Manager Kurt Angle announced on Thursday that he is the pre-order bonus character for WWE 2K18.

The past two years, Sting and Goldberg were the pre-order bonus characters. The video game spots paved the way for Sting and Goldberg wrestling for WWE years after anybody expected them to. Could we see Kurt Angle follow a similar path?

Pre-Order WWE 2K18 Now To Get Kurt Angle As A Bonus Character

Seth Rollins appeared on ESPN SportsCenter last week to reveal that he is the cover star for the game. In case you haven’t seen it yet, check out the official WWE 2K18 trailer.

WWE 2K18 will be released on October 18th for Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Kurt Angle Says He is “Dreaming of Wrestling” Finn Balor

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently sat down for an interview with UK media outlet Metro. RAW’s General Manager opened up about his past addictions, his current role and who he would like to face if he ends up wrestling in WWE. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Opponents he’d like to wrestle in WWE:

“There are a lot of great athletes in WWE right now so I’m not going to be too choosy. I’d love to go another round with Brock Lesnar or Triple H or even John Cena again, but there is a lot of talent I really enjoy watching.

AJ Styles and Seth Rollins, Cesaro, Sheamus, I love Rusev and I’d love to get my hands on Finn Balor. We’ll see what happens. I don’t know how long Kurt Angle will last, but I’m going to go as long as I can as long as I stay healthy.

I’m not here to do a one-off and ride off into the sunset, I’m here to help contribute to the company, whether it be one, two or five years.”

Not Recognizing Finn Balor:

“I’ve known Finn for ten years because I was wrestling over in Japan when he was there. I remember him as this young kid with a Justin Bieber style haircut with the hair spinning all over his head.

When I came back to WWE, I didn’t even know he was the same person. He said hi to me a couple of months ago and I just said hi back and walked past him. He was like ‘you don’t remember me do you?’ and I was like you’re the kid from Japan!”

The Possibility of Wrestling Balor:

“He’s on top of the world, one of the top three guys right now and he’s just started. Being able to do a program with him would be awesome.

I’m sure he dreamed of wrestling me back then, now I’m dreaming of wrestling him.”

Graves went backstage and confronted Angle about the accusation levied against him. As he read the text, Angle was visibly troubled.
