WWE Warned LA Knight That He May Be Just a Flavor Of the Month

LA Knight has become one of WWE’s most popular Superstars competing today, despite some thinking at first he’d just be the flavor of the month.

2023 saw a dramatic rise in popularity for the former Max Dupri, who kicked off the year the Pitch Black match at the Royal Rumble event. Throughout the year, Knight’s popularity continued to grow as fans continued to rally behind the veteran. At WWE Crown Jewel, Knight challenged Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns but failed to dethrone the Tribal Chief.

Flavor of the Month

LA Knight is one of WWE’s top stars right now, but not everybody had high hopes for the megastar. Speaking to Chris Van Vliet of Insight, Knight recalled WWE higher-ups being hesitant to go all in on him.

“There was skepticism at first. Is this really a thing? Is this just going to be a flash in the pan? Is this going to be a flavor of the month? And that’s a thing we had talked about and was even talked about with me. ‘Well, we don’t want to give it to you too soon because then they might get over it.’ Look, fine. If that’s the case and I’m not good enough to carry that, cool, let’s go with that.

“I understand the idea of wanting to protect me at some point as well. But I have the belief in myself that I could pivot and move and adapt to whatever the situation is. You don’t want to give it to him too soon but if try and not give it to him at all, come on man. I feel like I’m better than that. And I don’t mean that in a boisterous way, but I’m confident in what I do. I’m confident in my skills. And at the same time, I want to be able to fail. Because when I fail, I get back up.”

When Van Vliet rejected the notion that Knight has failed, the megastar corrected him and shared how crazy the past year has been.

“I’ve failed a million times but this year has been crazy… Apparently, I’ve been married twice this year as well. [Chris says Congratulations] Thank you, even though I’m not married.”

An Overnight Success?

While Knight’s rise in WWE has been dramatic, this chapter is just the latest in his lengthy career. On the show, Knight explained how his success was both an overnight sensation as wel as something that was a long time coming.

“It was but it wasn’t. It was 20 years, but then it was an overnight success. It was 20 years to get the overnight success basically because all of a sudden you’ve got– anywhere I’ve been any other company, had a fraction of the audience we have now. So to any of the uninitiated, most of them are seeing me for the first time. So in a certain way, it is an overnight success to the broader audience.”

La Knight will challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble, as will Randy Orton and AJ Styles. Roman Reigns is understandly not happy about this…

Watch: Roman Reigns’ Furious Reaction After Royal Rumble 2024 Scheme Backfires

Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is far from thrilled after his efforts to prevent a challenger for his title backfired immensely on SmackDown.

The January 5, edition of the blue brand was the ‘New Year’s Revolution’ episode of SmackDown and concluded WWE’s stacked first week of programming in 2024. In the main event, Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and LA Knight competed with the winner earning an Undisputed WWE Universal Championship opportunity.

Roman Reigns Reacts

Before the match could reach a decisive finish, Roman Reigns and The Bloodline interfered and attacked all three potential challengers. Unhappy with this, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis informed Paul Heyman that Reigns would defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at the Royal Rumble in a fatal four-way match.

Backstage, Heyman was given the daunting task of informing Reigns about the upcoming title match. The Special Counsel was clearly terrified when telling Reigns of what Aldis had told them. Reigns was infuriated but refrained from shouting and simply demanded that Heyman “fix this.”

This match will be the first time in over two years that Reigns has not defended his title in a singles contest. Reigns’ most recent match which saw multiple challengers was at WrestleMania 37 where the Tribal Chief bested Edge and Daniel Bryan. This will be Reigns’ first time defending his title in a fatal four-way match.

WWE Royal Rumble 2024

Reigns’ fatal four-way match will be part of a stacked event on January 27. The show will also feature the two titular Rumble matches. So far, Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Bobby Lashley have been announced for the Men’s Match. Bayley, Nia Jax, Becky Lynch, and Bianca Belair have been announced for the Women’s Match. U.S. Champion Logan Paul will defend against Kevin Owens at the event.

LA Knight Says ‘Dummy’ For The First Time On WWE Television

WWE SmackDown aired a best-of 2023 special for their December 29th episode. Some fans didn’t think that there would be any notable moments on the show, but the opening segment of the program included LA Knight breaking out a throwback signature that some fans miss.

LA Knight and the Dummies

LA Knight used to call everyone a “dummy” before he landed in WWE. That trend didn’t continue in WWE for some reason, but he never killed the idea. In fact, he seemed open to the prospect of bringing back his Namer of Dummies moniker.

While speaking to Chris Val Vliet months ago, LA Knight was asked about bringing “dummy” back. He said that 90% of fans in WWE don’t even know that he used to pop TNA Wrestling crowds with that word for years prior to becoming a WWE Superstar.

“I’ve considered. Some people want it, but 90% of the people probably don’t even know. Could it come back? Maybe sprinkle it in here or there, you never know.”

LA Knight Says Dummy in WWE

LA Knight opened up the SmackDown December 29th special episode with a little promo on 2023. He said “yeah” and was his trademark self. Then he closed out the segment by ordering them to “get to the clips, dummy.”

That marks the first time that LA Knight has said dummy on WWE television, but it’s not the first time he’s said in a WWE ring. In October, LA Knight used dummy a couple of times during an in-ring promo about the Bloodline, but it didn’t make the air.

LA Knight may fill 2024 with a new trademark word, because he has definitely cashed in on the dummy word in the past.

LA Knight Receiving Key To City Of His Hometown

LA Knight was known as Shaun Ricker during his pre-WWE days, and there are a number of people who remember him from before he was known throughout the world. Now, Knight is slated to receive an honor close to his heart in Hagerstown, MD.

LA Knight is set to be bestowed with the key to the City of Hagerstown, MD, as officially announced by the city on a Wednesday.

Where LA Knight Came From

Before adopting the moniker LA Knight and establishing himself as a prominent figure in the contemporary professional wrestling landscape, Shaun Ricker had roots in Hagerstown, Maryland.

After graduating from North Hagerstown High School in 2000, where LA Knight actively participated in the school’s band and track activities, the future WWE Superstar couldn’t shake his real dream. His childhood aspirations always revolved around becoming a professional wrestler. This is a dream that he obviously stuck with for the long haul.

After making his way around the pro wrestling world, where he competed as Eli Drake in TNA Wrestling and the NWA for years, LA Knight finally found himself in WWE. He was known as Max Dupri during a short stint on the WWE main roster as well, but Triple H soon fixed that Vince McMahon booking decision, and the rest is history.

LA Knight recently competed for the WWE Universal Championship in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone in his career. He did not win that match against Roman Reigns, but he certainly had quite a moment in the spotlight.

LA Knight’s Ceremony Date

LA Knight is scheduled for recognition on December 23rd at noon at University Plaza, the City of Hagerstown aims to honor one of its own, where he will receive the key to the city, a real honor. This has to be a great moment for LA Knight, a real full-circle moment where he can really appreciate where he came from.

The ceremony will be open to the public, providing an opportunity for LA Knight to address the audience, a moment eagerly anticipated by fans and wrestling fans alike.

Jey Uso Yeets, LA Knight Reacts to ‘Wedding’, Rollins on Roman Reigns & More

Jey Uso & The Return of Yeet

Earlier this month, WWE abandoned ‘Yeet’ because the term is owned by independent wrestler Kasey Huffman. It was later reported that WWE hasn’t completely given up on the term just yet and that the promotion’s legal team is working on it. Taking to Twitter, Jey didn’t clarify if he can still use Yeet on TV, but gave tweeted one for good measure.

LA Knight Gets Married?

Fans were overjoyed this week to learn that WWE Superstar LA Knight recently tied the knot. In a tweet, Knight made it clear that he didn’t get married this week despite what’s being shared online.

Knight is married to fitness instructor Michelle Yavulla and has been since 2018.

JBL Reacts to SmackDown

This week’s episode of SmackDown was the annual Tribute to the Troops show, so it was fitting that JBL was present at the show. It was the former WWE Champion who came up with the idea in 2003. In a tweet, JBL shared his appreciation for being back on SmackDown for one night. W

Seth Rollins on Roman Reigns

Seth Rollins has faced plenty of WWE Superstars as the reigning World Heavyweight Champion but hasn’t shown interest in Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Speaking on the SI Media podcast, Rollins explained why he hasn’t had the Tribal Chief in his sights.

“He’s been so absent, I don’t think it’s been a topic of conversation amongst fans, let alone the locker room. I think it’s one of those things where it’s an opportunity, but it’s such a glass-ceiling opportunity. It feels like one of those things where it may never happen.”

Reigns’ next match is expected to happen at the WWE Royal Rumble PLE on January 27.

LA Knight Laughs Off Report He Got Married This Week

Don’t worry, ladies, LA Knight is still on the market.

Instead of “I do” many fans were led to believe that LA Knight said “YEAH” to tying the knot this week as photos surfaced of him in a golden tuxedo standing by his girlfriend, Michelle Yavulla.

The photo, which could just as easily be taken for any kind of formal event, was captioned that Knight got married and much like any rumor, caught on like wildfire on social media.

Knight himself was certainly amused by the notion of his supposed nuptuals and took to social media to laugh them off.

“If anybody finds pictures from the wedding I’m hearing I was part of this week, I’m excited to see them! I must have blacked out, because i don’t remember any of it. Please send.”

LA Knight Has A Big Night This Week On WWE SmackDown

LA Knight will have a much different kind of “partner” this Friday night on WWE SmackDown as he’ll be teaming up with Randy Orton to take on Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa of The Bloodline.

Knight has had his fair share of feuding with the faction, considering Roman Reigns’ cousins helped to cost him his chances at winning the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship at Crown Jewel.

Orton himself is no stranger to feuding with The Bloodline as he blames the faction for being the ones to put him on the shelf for over a year. Orton just made his return at WWE Survivor Series and now has Roman Reigns in his sights, a fight that could very well go down at Royal Rumble 2024.

LA Knight Demands His WrestleMania Moment: “I’m Done Waiting”

As WWE gears up for WrestleMania in Hollywood, one superstar is hellbent on getting his moment on the grand stage.

Last Friday on SmackDown, five men competed in a number one contender’s match. The winner would then guarantee themselves a shot against GUNTHER at WrestleMania for the Intercontinental Championship. Among the competitors were Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Karrion Kross, Xavier Woods, and LA Knight. Each participant fought valiantly to secure their spot on the big show, but in a turn of events, it came down to a two-way draw.

At the same time Drew McIntyre pinned LA Knight, another referee counted the shoulders of Xavier Woods, who was in the midst of a pinfall from Sheamus. WWE official Adam Pearce later ruled that both men were co-winners of the five-way contest, but this week, they will square off one-on-one to determine GUNTHER’s sole challenger.

“You Can’t Have An LA WrestleMania Without L-A Knight”

la knight
(via WWE)

Despite his evident loss last week, LA Knight believes there can’t be a Los Angeles WrestleMania without him. With no clear path to WrestleMania now, Knight took to Twitter to demand his moment.

“EVERYBODY knows you can’t have an LA Wrestlemania without LA Knight,” he wrote. “But [WWE] is late to the game, DRAGGING THEIR FEET on giving Wrestlemania the opportunity for an LA Knight moment. It’s about damn time I get a heads up. I’m done waiting.”

Following his loss to Bray Wyatt at the Royal Rumble, Knight has yet to garner another consistent storyline on television. In recent weeks, he had a one-off match with Kofi Kingston, before setting his sights on the Intercontinental Championship. Unfortunately for Knight, his championship aspirations slipped away from his grasp last week.

Paul Heyman is awaiting The Usos and gives Jey a big hug. Jey asks where The Tribal Chief is and Heyman tells Jey that Roman Reigns (and himself) are both proud of him. Heyman exits and Kayla Braxton comes in and asks Jey why he turned on Sami Zayn this past Monday night on RAW. Jey says he’ll say everything that he needs to say in the middle of the ring later tonight.

We then go to the arena where our commentary team of Michael Cole and Wade Barrett welcome us to tonight’s show and it’s time for our opening contest of the evening.

Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus vs. Xavier Woods vs. LA Knight vs. Karrion Kross — Number One Contenders Match, Intercontinental Championship

Woods attacks Knight right as the bell sounds. McIntyre and Sheamus dump everyone out of the ring and meet face-to-face in the middle of the ring. McIntyre tells Sheamus that it didn’t have to come to this and everyone else rushes the ring and returns the favor on McIntyre and Sheamus and the two former teammates are sent to the outside as we head to a commercial break. Back from the break and Kross and Woods are double teaming Woods in the corner. Woods fights back but the numbers are too much for the New Day member. McIntyre comes into the ring but Kross dumps the former WWE Champion right back to the outside. Sheamus rushes the ring and tosses Knight to the outside and fires him into the barricade. Kross comes over and takes out Sheamus and launches McIntyre into the ring post. Kross and Knight head back into the ring and continue their attack on Woods. A double slam plants Woods, McIntyre comes in and lights Knight up with some chops to the chest but Knight knees McIntyre below the belt and he and Kross plant him with a double suplex.

Sheamus goes up top and lays Knight out with a diving clothesline but Kross shoves Sheamus into the corner as he and Knight continue to dominate the balance of the matchup. Knight nails Sheamus with a swinging neck breaker and goes for the cover but Kross breaks it up. Knight laughs it off but cheap shots Kross as Woods rushes back in the ring to take control. Woods lays Kross out with a slam and plants Knight with a back body drop. Woods goes up top to a raucous of ‘New Day rocks!’ chants and comes crashing down on Knight with a diving elbow drop into a cover but Sheamus, McIntyre, and Kross all rush in to break it up as we head to a commercial break.

Back from the break and McIntyre lifts himself up from a tree of woe position and slams Kross, who’s holding onto Knight all down to the mat and everyone is down either inside of the ring or on the outside. McIntyre is the first to his feet and lays Kross out with a lariat, Sheamus comes in and tosses McIntyre to the outside before slamming Knight down to the mat. McIntyre and Sheamus come face-to-face in the ring and argue. Woods comes diving in off the top rope but Sheamus drills him with Brogue Kick in mid-air, Knight comes in and eats a Claymore Kick from McIntyre. Sheamus pins Woods, McIntyre pins Knight, they both get the three count and the referees talk it over while McIntyre and Sheamus argue in the ring but it looks like we have two winners.

Winner(s) – Drew McIntyre & Sheamus

After the match, Kayla Braxton catches up with Paul Heyman backstage. Heyman says Roman Reigns will have no trouble dispatching of Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39.

It’s then announced that the first member of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2023 will be announced during tonight’s show and we head to a commercial break.

Back from the break and we see highlights of Drew McIntyre and Sheamus getting the simultaneous pinball victories earlier tonight. McIntyre and Sheamus are arguing backstage and Butch and Ridge Holland break them up before making Sheamus exit.

It’s then announced that Rey Mysterio will be inducted into this year’s WWE Hall of Fame. Rey’s music hits to a massive pop and out comes the first inductee into this year’s Hall of Fame class. Before Rey can say much, Dominik Mysterio, alongside Rhea Ripley, Finn Balor, and Damian Priest of The Judgment Day make their way down to the ring. Dominik says Rey doesn’t deserve this induction and Santos Escobar’s music hits and out comes Santos as well as Cruz del Toro, Joaquin Wilde, and Zelina Vega of Legado del Fantasma interrupt. Santos says he knows Legado and Judgement Day are supposed to fight tonight, so why waste anymore time and have that match, right here, right now? A referee rushes down to the ring and we’ll have the six-man tag team match after the break.

The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio, and Damian Priest) (with Rhea Ripley) def. Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Cruz del Toro, and Joaquin Wilde) (with Zelina Vega)

After the match, Dominik Mysterio gets back on the microphone and tells his father, Rey, that he should’ve been Eddie Guerrero’s son instead of his (Rey’s).

The Viking Raiders (with Valhalla) def. Braun Strowman & Ricochet

After the match, we see Intercontinental Champion Gunther backstage. Gunther approaches Adam Pearce and says what happened between Drew McIntyre and Sheamus to begin the night isn’t acceptable and Pearce needs to figure it out. Pearce says McIntyre and Sheamus will face off in a one-on-one match next week to determine Gunther’s opponent for an Intercontinental Title match at WrestleMania 39.

We then see SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair make her way down to the ring. Adam Pearce make this way onto the stage and says that Charlotte’s opponent tonight is Shotzi.

Charlotte Flair def. Shotzi

After the match, Rhea Ripley gets in the ring and confronts Charlotte. The SmackDown Women’s Champion tells her WrestleMania 39 opponent that she’s ran through everyone in her path…except for her, and that won’t change at WrestleMania as we head to a commercial break.

Back from the break and the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions, Jimmy and Jey Uso make their way down to the ring as we see a video package of what went down between The Usos, Sami Zayn, and Cody Rhodes from this past Monday night on RAW.

LA Knight on Why His Max Dupri Character Didn’t Work

LA Knight has proven to be a hit on WWE’s main roster, but only after ditching the name Max Dupri.

Knight joined WWE in early 2021 after previous stints in TNA/Impact Wrestling and the NWA as Eli Drake, and is a former Impact World Champion.

The 40-year-old wrestler made an impact (pardon the pun) upon his arrival to NXT, where he held the Million Dollar Championship.

Dupri No More

In May 2022, Knight was reintroduced to the WWE Universe as Max Dupri, the head of the Maximum Male Models.

After his sister Maxine Dupri was introduced later that month, Dupri would split from the group, and revert to his LA Knight persona.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Knight explained why his tenure as Max Dupri was short-lived.

“How honest do you want me to be? I’ll just say this, at the end of the day I can make anything work. But at the end of the day, I’ve got a real tough time not being [me]. I’ll tell you this, it wasn’t me. So when things came to pass and LA Knight started to shine through, it was the right place to go and not a moment too soon.”

LA Knight.

At WWE Royal Rumble 2023, Knight lost to Bray Wyatt in the Mountain Dew Pitch Black match, which marked Wyatt’s first televised match since returning to WWE.

What’s in a Name?

Whether it’s as LA Knight, Max Dupri, or Eli Drake, the SmackDown Superstar (real name Shaun Ricker) has made a name himself, but these aren’t his only names.

Knight previously worked for WWE from 2013-2014 as Slate Randall but was primarily used as an enhancement talent.

In 2011, Knight was an unnamed security guard during the infamous text message promo between Kevin Nash and CM Punk, when the latter joked that people thought Nash died years ago.

Gamers may recognize Knight (or at least his voice) as “Paragon Jay Pierce” in WWE 2K22’s MyRise mode.

Pitch Black Match Confirmed for WWE Royal Rumble

The competitors for the first-ever Pitch Black match scheduled for the 2023 WWE Royal Rumble have been revealed.

On Friday’s episode of SmackDown, Bray Wyatt opened the show to apologize to the cameraman he attacked last week before he was quickly interrupted by LA Knight, who called Wyatt a fraud. Knight challenged him to a match at the upcoming premium live event.

The Set Up

Wyatt accepted the bout before saying it was time to remind the world how cruel he could be. Before they could brawl, Uncle Howdy appeared, standing alongside Wyatt before hitting him with Sister Abigail. Knight quickly exited the ring.

WWE confirmed later in the broadcast that Wyatt vs. Knight would be a “Pitch Black Match,” though no details were given on what the match is, although they plugged the bout being sponsored by Mountain Dew with a graphic.

This match will mark Wyatt’s first television match in WWE since his bout against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 37.

WWE presents the Royal Rumble premium live event on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from San Antonio, Texas at the Alamodome that will air on Peacock. WWE will be announcing more matches for this show in the coming weeks.

Rumor Killer on WWE Already Planning Men’s 2023 Money in the Bank Winner

LA Knight may be impressing fans with his actions on SmackDown, but he isn’t destined to hold the Money in the Bank briefcase just yet.

Knight was called up to the main roster in April this year, originally as Max Dupri, the heel manager of the Maximum Male Models.

Ditching the name in favor of his NXT moniker, Knight recently began a feud with Bray Wyatt.

Money in the Bank

Recently, it was rumored that Knight has been penciled in to win the Men’s 2023 Money in the Bank Ladder match, earning himself a future World Champion.

Knight is rumored to be a favorite of WWE’s Head of Creative and Talent Triple H, but this hasn’t guaranteed him the briefcase.

One source within WWE who spoke to Fightful Select said that while they like Knight, there are no plans for him to win Money in the Bank at this time.

The source added that there are no “definitive plans across the board for months down the line,” never mind picking a specific person to win the briefcase.

It was also said that Knight winning the Men’s contract next year could happen, as he is a “great performer” but nothing has been confirmed or even discussed yet.

Austin Theory

Austin Theory is the most recent holder of the Men’s Money in the Bank contract but failed in his cash-in on U.S. Champion Seth Rollins.

Speaking to Fightful, the source added that if WWE really wanted Knight to hold the briefcase, it would have been easy for Theory to lose his contract to the former Million Dollar Champion.

Since losing his match with Rollins, a much more serious Theory has attacked the U.S. Champion, and both he and Bobby Lashley will challenge for the title at WWE Survivor Series WarGames.

Jim Cornette on Maximum Male Models in WWE: “The Worst Idea Anybody Has Ever Had”

LA Knight debuted on the main roster as Max Dupri, manager of Maximum Male Models.

The character and the group didn’t get over with fans and now Max Dupri is no more. Following Vince McMahon’s resignation from the company, several released stars have returned to the company and some had their names changed.

LA Knight has exited Maximum Male Models and now has his sights set on becoming a star on WWE SmackDown. He defeated Mansoor of MMM this past Friday night and warned the locker room in a promo after the match.

Jim Cornette on LA Knight’s Match and Promo on SmackDown

Wrestling legend Jim Cornette shared his thoughts on LA Knight’s match and promo this past Friday on a recent edition of the Jim Cornette Experience. Cornette said that Mace and Mansoor have to be embarrassed at this point to be a part of Maximum Male Models.

The thing about LA Knight is, I like the fact that they realize they’ve committed a crime against nature. Changing his name to Max Dupri, the whole male model thing, Mace and Mansoor, and by the way those guys have to be so embarrassed. They’re going out on TV looking like that and doing that s***.

Jim commented on LA Knight’s promo after his victory over Mansoor and said he expects WWE to never mention his involvement with MMM ever again.

He cuts the promo as LA Knight and he did a new catchphrase and blah blah blah. I expect they’ll just never mention this again. But you know me, I’ve got the OCD.

And I would have had to have given LA Knight some reason to impart to the people why he did this. To obviously put it to bed, get over it, it was the worst idea anybody has ever had. But what was the reason he went along with it for three weeks?

“You Are Looking At Him” – LA Knight Claims To Be The Only Megastar In WWE

LA Knight has left Maximum Male Models behind and is focused on becoming the top guy in WWE.

He defeated Mansoor in a singles match last night on SmackDown. It was LA Knight’s debut match on the main roster, as he had been serving as a manager for the Maximum Male Models group. His storyline sister, Maxxine Dupri, is the new manager of the group featuring Mansoor and Mace.

After his victory, LA Knight immediately turned heel and insulted the crowd after the match. He claimed that SmackDown is his game now and warned the locker room to close the promo.

LA Knight Claims To Be The Only “Megastar” In WWE

Following his successful in-ring debut on the main roster, LA Knight was interviewed on The SmackDown LowDown. Megan Morant tried to ask LA about his former protege Mansoor but Knight cut her off. LA said that Maximum Male Models were getting flushed down the toilet at the moment and claimed to be the only megastar walking around in WWE.

We want to talk about Maximum Male Models? Mace and Mansoor, right? Wrong.

Because where are they? They are getting flushed down the toilet right about now. Why is that?

It is because Mace and Mansoor, both of them, dropped on their head for their troubles. And what does that mean?

Now moving forward, now I’m going only where I can go and that is to the top. Why is that?

Because there is one, and only one, megastar walking around WWE and you are looking at him.

Why is that? Because whose game is it? It’s LA Knight’s game. YEAH.

“I Think He’s Extremely Talented” – Former WWE Superstar Praises LA Knight

LA Knight was a popular character in WWE NXT but debuted on the main roster under a different name.

Max Dupri was the manager of Maxiumum Male Models. He recruited Mansoor and Mace to the group and they would often pose on the entrance ramp as if it were a runway. Following Vince McMahon’s resignation and Triple H assuming creative responsibility for the company, Max started to hint that Maximum Male Models wasn’t for him. He attacked Mansoor last week and it led to a singles match on this past Friday’s SmackDown.

LA Knight wrestled his first match on the main roster this week against Mansoor and picked up the pinfall victory after connecting with the BFT. After the match, LA Knight immediately insulted the crowd to turn heel. He warned the locker room that SmackDown was his game now.

Paul London On LA Knight & WWE Name Changes

Speaking on the Cafe de Rene podcast, former WWE Superstar Paul London discussed LA Knight and WWE’s name changes. Before his time in WWE, LA Knight wrestled in Impact as Eli Drake and captured the Impact Championship.

I think he’s extremely talented. He’s a great personality, great on the microphone. He doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel.

He doesn’t try to do anything crazy that is beyond his persona or beyond his limits.

I’m not saying he’s limited by any means. I mean, he’s a physical specimen. He looks great, and he works, I really enjoy his work.

I haven’t seen anything, since he’s been in WWE, I haven’t seen anything of that. I know that they’ve flipped his name around a couple of times.

Paul London then discussed WWE changing the names of wrestlers and noted how most of the names are not very believable.

I mean, these names. It is something you would have thought that they would have improved on over the years.

I’m under the belief that the writers would watch the CW Network or read the teen magazines or something and just mishmash these names together or something.

Because these names are not good. They’re not very believable. I guess they eventually saturate into the mind and stick for whatever reason.

I think they realize that. They’re like ‘well Max Dupri, let’s just go back to LA Knight, let’s go back to him sounding like a shoe brand’.

WWE Superstar Bringing Back Old Gimmick Very Soon

Another WWE Superstar is gearing up for a character refresh. In this case, it will be an old persona returning.

As seen on last week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Max Dupri abandoned the Maximum Male Models faction, leaving many to wonder what’s next for the former NXT star. Some have suggested we’ll see him bring back his previous gimmick, LA Knight and they are correct. LA Knight is already listed as such on the company’s internal roster, according to a report at PWInsider.

To the fans of Maximum Male Models, don’t worry. Maxine, Mace and Mansoor will continue in their current roles.

LA Knight in WWE

Prior to his time in the big leagues, LA Knight wrestled as Eli Drake for Impact Wrestling (2015-2019) and later the National Wrestling Alliance (2019-2021).

He signed with WWE in 2021 and joined the NXT roster, where he spent nearly a year. The highlight of his NXT run saw him winning Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Championship.

Knight was called up to WWE’s main roster back in April. He left LA Knight behind, dubbed himself Max Dupri and introduced the world to Maximum Male Models. That group will live on, but Knight appears to have had enough after last week’s episode.

Triple H has wasted no time shaking things up as WWE’s new head of creative and talent relations. Dupri reverting to LA Knight is just the latest change under the new regime.

It will be interesting to see how soon we see the LA Knight character back on TV, with the likelihood being this week. In case you’re unfamiliar with Knight, here was his introduction to the WWE Universe:

LA Knight Done With NXT, Considered WWE Main Roster Talent

LA Knight has finished with the WWE NXT brand. Fightful Select reported today there are no plans moving forward for Knight in NXT and he is considered to be part of the main roster after just making a few recent SmackDown dark match appearances.

His last NXT match came when he dropped a loss to Gunther at Stand & Deliver during WrestleMania 38 Weeknd earlier this month. Gunther has also been called up to SmackDown.

It’s just a matter of time before Knight will be coming to the main roster with his new Knight Model Management stable.

On April 15th at SmackDown, Knight served as the manager to former RETRIBUTION member Mace in a dark match. Knight cut a promo about launching his Knight Model Management with the former Mace, now known as Face.

Knight stated that he’s starting the model management group after saving up all of his money. Knight was wearing a suit while Face also had a new look and beat  Erik of The Viking Raiders, thanks to a distraction by Knight.

Last week at SmackDown, Mansoor was with Knight and Face for a dark match. However, this time, Knight called him Mace The Face, and then cut another promo to hype up his stable.

WWE NXT Star Works SmackDown Dark Match As Manager

WWE is moving forward with the idea of using LA Knight as a manager on the main roster. At Friday’s SmackDown, LA Knight appeared in a dark segment while wearing a suit and cutting a promo for the fans in attendance.

Knight talked about how he was creating Knight Model Management with his first client being Mace. This led to Mace, who has been given a different look by wearing a Blazer and Air Jordans, defeating Erik of the Viking Raiders with a leaping leg lariat after Knight caused a distraction.

It was reported last week that WWE discussed bringing up Knight on Raw or SmackDown with one pitch made for Knight to work as a manager because he’s known to be one of the best talkers in NXT.

Knight made a name for himself as Eli Drake in Impact Wrestling and the NWA. He later signed with WWE last year where he found success and become a one-time Million Dollar Champion.

WWE will likely use Knight in dark segments at main roster events before deciding whether to go with their plans of calling him up.

How WWE Officials Feel About LA Knight And Other NXT Stars

WWE’s development brand in NXT is now directly under the control of Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard. There are several names they see as future megastars.

Dave Meltzer talked about the revamped brand on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He revealed how the officials feel about certain names.

Per Meltzer, officials are ‘very high right now’ on LA Knight. The former Impact world champion was originally supposed to be called up to the main roster in spring.

However, he has recently been competing in dark matches on SmackDown and Raw. WWE even posted a video of Knight having a confrontation with Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. So it’s possible that his progression may have been sped up.

A couple of other names the officials seemed to be impressed with are Brutus Creed and Julius Creed, the Creed Brothers.

Internal comparisons have been made between Julias and a young Kurt Angle. The Idea internally is that ‘both will at some point be WrestleMania headliners.’

Finally, the officials are high on Von Wagner and Xyon Quinn because of their look and size. They are ‘very forgiving’ of the young star’s inexperience in the ring and the management is hoping that they will pick things up in time.

Only time will tell which one of these talents actually end up becoming big stars, but it’s still good to know that officials are looking at names that can be future champions.

WWE NXT Stars Work Dark Match Before Friday’s SmackDown

LA Knight and Roderick Strong got a look on the main roster before Friday Night Smackdown went live on FOX. The two NXT stars worked a dark match from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN with Knight going over.

Over the last two weeks, Tommaso Ciampa and Pete Dunne have faced each other in dark matches at SmackDown in addition to WWE’s tapings for Main Event before Raw both this week and last week.

This week’s main event of NXT 2.0 featured Strong in action as he lost to WALTER, who announced after the match that his new name is Gunther.

The Diamond Mine stable is currently feuding with WALTER’s Imperium faction, which is why the match was booked. A brawl between the two groups closed this week’s NXT as The Creed Brothers made the save for Strong when Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner attacked him with WALTER adding in some strikes.

Earlier this month on the New Year’s Evil edition of NXT, Strong lost a title unification match against NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes as he was NXT Cruiserweight Champion going into that match. WWE decided to retire the title and Hayes is recognized as the North American Champion.

Cameron Grimes Wins Million Dollar Title At WWE NXT TakeOver 36

LA Knight vs. Cameron Grimes had their third match at the WWE NXT TakeOver 36 event in Orlando, Florida at the Capitol Wrestling Center.

The bout had the WWE Million Dollar Championship on the line with the stipulation that if Grimes lost then Ted Ted Dibiase would become Knight’s new butler.

This opened the show. It was a fast-paced bout that resulted in Grimes hitting Knight with the double foot stomp. Near the end, the WWE Hall of Famer even got in some shots on Knight.

Grimes had been Knight’s butler in storyline since he lost to Knight for the title at NXT Great American Bash last month. Their first match took place t NXT TakeOver: In Your House this June where Grimes was unsuccessful in challenging for the Million Dollar Championship while battling Knight in a ladder match.

After TakeOver: In Your House, Knight turned against DiBiase and attacked him. Two weeks ago, Knight walked out on Grimes during a tag team match against The Grizzled Young Veterans, which led to DiBiase to come out and try to tell Grimes to get out of being Knight’s butler.

Last week, Knight defeated Andre Chase and following the match, DiBiase challenged Knight to give Grimes another shot at the title, but the only way Knight would agree is if DiBiase agreed to his stipulation.

LA Knight Reveals His Plans for New ‘Butler’ Cameron Grimes

WWE NXT Superstar LA Knight defeated Cameron Grimes on this week’s episode of NXT to retain his Million Dollar Championship. With Knight winning the match during the Great American Bash, he now has the services of Grimes as a ‘butler’ for the foreseeable future.

It appears as though WWE will be looking to have elements of the original angle between Ted DiBiase and Virgil, with the man now know for liking his ‘F*CK MONEY’ turning on DiBiase and becoming a big star for a very short time.

LA Knight revealed the plans he has for Cameron Grimes after NXT aired on the WWE YouTube channel. “I’m the Million Dollar mega star and now I have help. I got my own help,” LA Knight began when talking to cameras backstage at the Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, Florida.

“The clause in the contract says that I have to give him a day to gather his stuff before he can come over [to my house] to do stuff for me” Knight continued.

“Well, Cameron, I hope you got your plunger, toilet brush and all the plumbing gear you need, because I got some toilets for you to clean” the Million Dollar Champion continued.

“I got some cars for you to clean and some meals for you to cook for me. I got an expensive chef but now I have free help, and I love it” LA Knight then concluded.

It is not confirmed exactly how long this angle is expected to go on for, but it looks as if we’re in for the long haul on this one.

LA Knight Retains Million Dollar Title, Cameron Grimes To Become His Butler

WWE raised the stakes for the feud between Cameron Grimes and LA Knight in their second match.

Grimes challenged Knight for the Million Dollar Title on Tuesday’s episode of NXT: Great American Bash. The stipulation to go along with the bout was if Knight won, Grimes must become his butler.

The match was in the first hour and they traded signature moves before going into various quick pin attempt spots. Knight hit a DDT onto the title and this led to a near countout spot, but Grimes got back into the ring. Knight hit his finisher for the win.

The two wrestlers previously worked a ladder match at the WWE NXT TakeOver:  In Your House event where Knight won the title. WWE first introduced the title by DiBiase as an unofficial title in 1989 and it was most recently featured on WWE television in 2010 when Ted DiBiase Jr. held it.

On the post-TakeOver episode of NXT, Knight turned against “Million Dollar Man”  Ted DiBiase by attacking the legendary pro wrestler.

It will be interesting to see where this program goes next week on NXT. Heading into this bout, Grimes was listed as the favorite to win the bout even though Knight hadn’t held the title for that long.

LA Knight On Ted DiBiase’s Future In NXT

LA Knight picked up a big win during the latest NXT Takeover: In Your House event this past Sunday when he won the Million Dollar championship originally created by Ted DiBiase.

The new champion appeared on Busted Open Radio after his big win on the show. He talked about his journey from being a kid and watching the million-dollar title on WWE TV to holding the belt himself.

Knight then discussed DiBiase’s future in the brand saying that the WWE Hall Of Famer is still going to be around. The NXT star also claimed that he has a big surprise coming for him:

“Ted’s still going to be around, I need him, I want him to be there. I think I have a pretty big surprise coming for him, because I owe him, big time at this point. So I definitely want to make sure that he’s around for sure.”

Ted DiBiase has been making regular appearances for NXT since April and he had been feuding with Cameron Grimes. He recently reintroduced the Million Dollar championship on WWE TV.

The company then announced a ladder match between Grimes and LA Knight to determine the new Million Dollar champion. This match was won by Knight during the latest NXT Takeover: In Your House event.

LA Knight Wins Million Dollar Title At WWE NXT TakeOver: In Your House

WWE raised the stakes for the feud between Cameron Grimes and LA Knight when they brought back the Million Dollar Championship.

The two wrestlers worked a ladder match at the WWE NXT TakeOver:  In Your House event in Orlando, Florida at the Capitol Wrestling Center to determine the new champion.

The match obviously saw them use the ladders as weapons throughout. They did a neck breaker spot on the ladders. Grimes sent Knight face-first into a ladder set up in the corner. Grimes hit a back drop to Knight onto the ladder. The finish saw Grimes at the top of the ladder in the ring, but Knight titled it and sent Grimes crashing onto a ladder on the ramp way.

Last week on NXT, the title made its return as part of this storyline because Grimes and Knight have each been vying for Ted DiBiase to choose them to be the wrestler to carry on his Million Dollar legacy.

WWE first introduced the title by DiBiase as an unofficial title in 1989 and it was most recently featured on WWE television in 2010 when Ted DiBiase Jr. held it.

LA Knight Talks Being Hated In NXT For The First Three Months

Former IMPACT World Champion and NXT Superstar LA Knight recently spoke to Busted Open Radio. The outspoken Superstar discussed a number of topics during his time on the show, including why he was ‘hated’ during his first three months on the NXT brand.

“I have to say that I’m a bit of an introvert, I stay to myself” LA Knight began on Busted Open. “Especially if I don’t know people. So if I’m brand new to a locker room? I’ll say hello to everybody, and I’ll just kind of go off by myself; because in my mind I’m thinking, ‘I don’t want to bother anybody.’”

“If somebody wants to talk to me or if I have something really important to say? I’ll approach them” LA Knight added. “But otherwise I’m going to say hello, and then I’m gonna go do my own thing. That’s until somebody shows an interest or whatever starts talking to me.”

LA Knight on NXT Career

LA Knight finished by revealing that it usually takes a while to get ‘used’ to him in a locker room situation. This has led to him not being liked straight away in some of the places he has worked, including NXT.

“So now you see me carrying myself in a certain way; then you see what I do in the ring on a microphone, which is uber confident” Knight added. “And all of a sudden I’m not talking to anybody in the back and then people are like what ‘who the hell’s this guy think he is?’”

“When I got to NXT the first time here, I was hated for like the first three months” LA Knight concluded. “And it’s usually like a three month period before everybody kind of figures out like, ‘oh wait, this guy’s actually okay.’
