  • McCool Explains Why She Left WWE, Cites Animosity Backstage

Speaking to former WWE Divas Lilian Garcia and Torrie Wilson, Michelle McCool took part in her first interview since leaving WWE Monday night on the AfterBuzz TV AfterShow for Tough Enough. The multi-time champion says her peers’ animosity towards her behind the scenes played a huge factor in her decision to part ways with the organization.

Below is a transcript of her appearance on the program, courtesy of MichelleMcCool.net.

Lilian Garcia: Why did you leave on top?

Michelle McCool: You know, it’s nothing that has culminated overnight. That’s for sure. I mean, I’m going on six years, and you know- I mean, Lilian, Torrie, you know- six years is really a long time for one of the girls. I do a lot, and I’m thankful for that. It’s a dog-eat-dog world and in a man’s world, too. It’s just a fight, every single week, this job. I was in it to win it. I did fight, stand my ground. Add to that, these past couple of years has definitely been the most fun I’ve had in my career. But again, it’s not something that has culminated overnight. It’s something that I’ve actually been thinking about for a while. Something that I even thought about doing earlier than Extreme Rules, but I wanted to go out in the right way, and I wanted to do what was right for Layla. We’ve worked together as a team these past few years, and she’s done so much for me, for each other, that I wanted to go out doing the right thing. Working a program with Layla, while short, it was fun. I also kind of wanted [my exit] to be unexpected to the fans, and actually to some of the Superstars. I wanted to give them something unexpected. I wanted them to expect the unexpected, and hopefully we did that.

Torrie Wilson: Do you feel like the more you went up the ladder, getting the belts and being on television and had all these great things happening, do you feel like you had to work harder to prove yourself to the women? Did you see a lot of clawing and backstabbing, or was it… helpful?

Michelle McCool: Oh, gosh. No. You know the answer to that question! (laughs) The higher you climb the ladder, everyone is going to have a reason as to why you’re there, why you’re on TV, and they don’t want to believe the fact you’re in the working hard, fighting for storylines. Instead of complaining about only have two or three minutes on TV, you want to make those two or three minutes mean something, so that you can go somewhere the next week, and the next month, and then the next three months. And that’s what Layla and I did. And, yeah. A lot of people just didn’t want to believe that; I just think that’s the easy route. I think that they did, in their hearts, know that. The backstabbing, the clawing, it’s always there. It definitely comes up more when you’re on TV a little more often. And I can laugh. A prime example, Layla and I. We pitched an idea when we were going back and forth between RAW and SmackDown. We did a pre-tape on RAW when we got kicked off: so, we show up at RAW and get kicked out of the building. Two weeks later, they call us up to be on RAW again. It’s like, dang! Of course, all of the girls are complaining. We’re just like, ‘hey, we tried to get kicked off the show. It’s not our fault. Sorry we’re here.’ But you know, it’s like. Somebody else step it up! And I know that sounds horrible, but that’s what it is.

Torrie Wilson: Do you feel like that contributed to you wanting to step away or not? Because it was getting to be… too much?

Michelle McCool: Yeah. Yeah. You know, that’s hard. Torrie, you know. You’re the same way. I think we have a lot in common, as far as our hearts go. It’s just hard when you’re not that kind of person. When you don’t want to be miserable, when you don’t want to have that drama and… the drama just follows you. All due to the situation or the position that you’re in. It wears on you, as much as you’d like to say ‘I don’t care what the girls think!’ or ‘I don’t care what they’re saying!’ – I just want to go out there and do my job! It got harder each and every single week, just because it hurt me as a person. The kind of person that I am. You don’t want to feel that way.

Torrie Wilson: For someone that personally saw you, and how hard you would work, even before you were on TV-and I traveled with you-just how hard you worked, how many storylines you came up with to me, and with me, to work with me! It’s just actually frustrating to think that people would think you’re not working hard.

Michelle McCool: Well, thank you for saying that. That means a lot.

Lilian Garcia: And let me tell you something. Not only did you work hard in the ring, but also on your outfits! That meant a lot to you. Talk about being creative: I saw you being creative in your moves, in your entrance, but also in your outfits. I remember [you] coming out with the most amazing gear, and just going, WOW! You’re going to get noticed just based on that – and your body! Holy cow, girl!

Michelle McCool: Oh, please! (laughs) I think the whole Flawless thing backfired in my face. I’m just like, ‘oh, man! We’re out here calling ourselves Flawless, and being the most obnoxious characters, that even I wanted to slap myself sometimes!’ Even I would get sick of watching myself on TV! But let me tell you about the first night. And I just thought that it would only happen on the first night that I left WWE. I had almost an entire large pizza-you know me and stuffed crust! I had me a whole cake with frosting, and the problem is, I’ve done it almost every night since! The whole ‘Flawless’ thing is kind of out the window! (laughs)

Lilian Garcia: Um, Michelle. I have some bad news for you. Since I’ve left WWE a year and a half ago… I can’t… stop… eating! I can’t stop cheating!

Lilian Garcia: Do you have anything that you regret that you didn’t get to do?

Michelle McCool: Well… you know what? Somebody asked me that question in passing, not long ago. It’s crazy. I’ve really done a lot. You know, when you’re out there, and all of the drama is going on every single week, and you’re fighting every single week, you know. It just gets harder. And then you forget. Which is horrible! But you forget about all of the wonderful things that you’ve done. I was the Women’s champ, the Divas Champ, the unified Champ, Layla and I were co-Champs. I was in the first [Diva’s] table match. You think of all of these things, and it’s like, wow. I like to think of myself as a humble person, and I hate talking about myself, but… that’s kind of a lot stuff, you know. That’s pretty cool. I can’t think of anything where I can look back and wish that there was something that I could have done. Even with all of these opportunities.

Torrie Wilson: Yeah, well… you could have won the Golden Thong Award!

Torrie Wilson: Well, at this point are you thinking that you’ll never, ever, ever, ever return back to WWE or what?

Michelle McCool: Well, that’s not my intention at all. Right now I’m just trying to breath for a little while. And, you know… enjoy life and see where it takes me. So hopefully, I can just take that attitude and let it carry me from today to the next day to the next day…

Lilian Garcia: Speaking of Tough Enough, you came through a similar competition. How do you feel about a show like that?

Michelle McCool: Well, you know. A lot of people don’t know, and it’s funny, that I actually filled out all of the paper work for the original Tough Enough and that I was going to apply. I still have all of the paperwork, but I just began my teaching career instead. Obviously, I love the show. And yes, I went through the Divas Search. And it’s funny, you know? Because everyone puts this ‘staple’ on you that you’re just a ‘Diva Search Reject,’ which there were several of us at the time, which is fine. But I often wonder that if I had gone through Though Enough and became a ‘Tough Enough Reject’ would so many people hate on me the way they do as a ‘Diva Search Reject.’ I’ve always wondered that. So that’s funny. And I actually do love the show. I’ve trained with Bill DeMott, down in Deep South. And even watching the drills tonight, I’ve been through them all. I know exactly what the contestants are going through. In the end, it’s a mental game, and they’re going through some tough times. Believe me. Again, I love the show, I love the concept.” … “Times have changed, you know? Times have definitely changed. Some of the girls backstage are just… yeah. From the time that I came in, back with Dawn Marie, and everybody else. Today? It’s just a whole different ball game these days.

Lilian Garcia: Do you stay in touch with anybody, after you’ve left?

Michelle McCool: Well, I stay in touch with Layla and Vickie. And, um… Nattie, every once in a while. She text me yesterday, actually. And Kelly. But…. sadly, that’s about it. Kelly, Layla, Vickie and Nattie on occasion. …Yeah.

Lilian Garcia: Well, I’m curious now. Since we all know that feeling, what’s next?

Michelle McCool: That’s kind of scary…

Lilian Garcia: It is, right? It’s scary, but exciting.

Torrie Wilson: And then it’s scary to think about going back! To the traveling, at least.

Michelle McCool: Well, I certainly don’t want to be near any airplanes or airports anytime soon, that’s for sure. But it is, it’s really scary. But it is also exciting! Like this week, for example. I spent the weekend with my parents. I can’t even tell you the last time I spent an entire weekend with my parents, or my godson, for that matter. I’m just enjoying life. But, I have also kept my teaching license active.

Lilian Garcia: So is that what you’re thinking? Or is there something else brewing in your head?

Michelle McCool: Nope. There’s nothing brewing. Though, I wouldn’t mind it, I think I would be a darn good Tough Enough trainer! Nobody has mentioned that to me, I swear to you, but I am throwing it out there. I think I’d have fun and I’d do a good job. It’s just that I’m such a big fan of the show, and I’ve worked under Bill. I know his personality, what his drills are like, I just… I don’t know. Why not throw another personality on that show? Sort of right up my alley.

  • Lilian Garcia Comments On Appearance, Whether She Will Return

Following Osama bin Laden’s reported death on Sunday, WWE announced that it would celebrate patriotism on the May 2, 2011 episode of Monday Night Raw. The program kicked off with former WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia singing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” who ten years earlier sang the U.S. National Anthem at the first public assembly following the September 11 attacks—the September 13, 2001 SmackDown taping in Houston, Texas. Just as ten years earlier, a thunderous “U-S-A” chant followed her rendition of the Anthem.

Garcia revealed during a post-Raw interview for AfterBuzz TV that her surprise appearance on Raw was due to numerous fans requesting to WWE on Twitter that she sing the Anthem—following a message she posted Sunday night concerning bin Laden’s death.

She explained, “When I tweeted about ‘my gosh, Osama bin Laden has been killed, this is justice finally for the families’, everybody started tweeting me, and they also started including @WWE in their tweets. And they kept saying, ‘Wow! We definitely wanna have Lilian singing and you gotta be there tomorrow night and everything’. I saw it, WWE saw it, and that’s how I got here tonight, because the idea got sparked by the fans on Twitter.”

Her appearance was on such short notice that she received a phone call from WWE about singing the Anthem on Raw the previous night at 9:30 p.m. PST—two hours following news of Laden’s death breaking. She hastily picked up a dress from Candice Michelle and with two hours of sleep, went on a cross-country flight from Los Angeles, California at 6:00 a.m. She arrived in Miami, Florida at 2:30 p.m. and managed to squeeze in a vocal lesson via Skype before arriving to the American Airlines Arena for the show.

Tough Enough Aftershow hosts Torrie Wilson and Candice Michelle asked Garcia, who parted ways with WWE in September 2009, whether she will be leaving them to return to the organization. She replied, “Do not worry about it!”

“I love the WWE, but the road, I’m just not ready for the road! She continued, “It was great coming back tonight, and it was great seeing everyone and being a part of it again, but I’m definitely a TLC’er.”

Garcia thanked fans in a message on her offical website for making her appearance possible.

“And thank you WWE Universe for all your tweets requesting me to sing!!! It is because of you that WWE & I heard you and made it possible!! It was a true honor for me and a night I will NEVER forget!”

Prior started to her performance, a video package aired flashing back to September 11, 2001 and former United States President George W. Bush’s message to the American people. This was proceeded by clips of the September 13, 2001 episode of SmackDown including Vince McMahon’s center-ring speech addressing fans and wrestlers. • Torrie Wilson, Lilian Garcia & Candice Discuss Tough Enough

Recap of Torrie Wilson, Lilian Garcia and Candice Michelle’s interview for www.InYourHeadOnline.com on Wednesday – By Nikhil Kalhan

Jack and OneInchBiceps were joined by the beautiful tandem of Torrie Wilson, Lilian Garcia and Candice Michelle. Catch their Touch Enough Recap show on www.ustream.tv/afterbuzztv after Raw every Monday.

Jack asked what should the contestants do when they meet wrestlers? Torrie says it depends on what wrestler you meet but you should shake everyone’s hand. Candice says it’s all about respect especially if they achieved what you wanted.

Jack asked how were they treated? Lilian said she was treated pretty well but a few whispers were said, she gave credit to Howard Finkel and Tony Chimel for training her. Candice Michelle said the men loved her and the woman hated her, she remembered Lita slapped her because she had the best spot to do makeup in the lockeroom. Torrie Wilson said no one had a welcoming party but she said everyone was pretty nice. She was happy to have Stacy Kiebler with her to keep up company. Jack asked what does the TV exposure on Tough Enough give for the losers? Lilian says its brilliant even if you haven’t won the competition you will get a contract because you are exposed to the world. Candice Michelle said WWE should wait to give contracts out after about a month not straightaway like what they have just done.

Jack asked was better for the winner to be on TV? Lillian says as long as they have planned and are ready its fine but depends on the push given by Vince McMahon. Jack asked their thoughts on the Alicia Fox versus Melina match from last week? Lilian said if that’s her favourite match, it’s her favourite match. Candice said she was new to the business so you can’t blame her. Lilian says she could do research on YouTube but how can she search people she doesn’t know.

Jack asked the girls how quickly did you get a passion into it? Candice said she watched when she was growing up, she had a Hulk Hogan doll. Candice said she stopped watching it for a few years when she moved to Los Angeles, but she had no regrets doing it, going to the ring early and getting respect. Torrie Wilson said she appreciated more in WWE then WCW, because she didn’t wrestle. Lilian goes it was rough for her and she didn’t know she was announcing till the morning of the show, she had to earn her respect which she did by learning wrestler’s towns and weights.

OneInchBiceps had a message from the board: Tommy D asked did Lilian enjoyed the feud with Howard Finkel? Lilian Garcia said it was her only match, she remembers doing a run-in and had a lot of fun. Jack asked if there was more pressure to do any more work? Lilian goes never because her role was different. Jack asked what was it like for woman in WCW? Torrie Wilson said it was hard especially at the power-plant where Madusa dropped her on her head. The experience was painful. Candice said her passion fell in love after about a year in the WWE. She enjoyed it often and it must hurt if you had no passion over.

Jack asked if it was hard to be friends of other woman? Candice said people would hate you and like you. It was just a bond which TLC have. TLC all said Stone Cold was the same character he is in Tough Enough. Jack asked their thoughts on Indie wrestlers not making it? Lilian said if you are good enough you will get in. Candice you have to make your dream come true and there are other ways to get in. Jack asked if they had any nick-names? They said that will be revealed later on. • Lilian Garcia Discusses The Rock’s Influence On Her Career

While high school classmates and teachers of Lilian Garcia knew she could sing, it wasn’t until Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson found out, that her singing career began to blossom.

“The Rock likes to sing, too, and he found out I could sing,” the former ring announcer of Monday Night Raw told the Miami Herald in an interview.

“I was talking to him one day, and ‘The National Anthem’ came up as a subject. I said, ‘Yea, I sang ‘The National Anthem’ at my high school graduation.’ There was 600 people in the auditorium. I was in drama in high school, and I always sang in high school. So people there knew me as a singer.

“So he goes, ‘Wow. We actually play ‘The National Anthem’ [at house shows]; it’s always an instrumental [recording] that plays, before we go out.’ He goes, ‘I’m going to talk to the agent, and we should get you to sing ‘The National Anthem.’

“It was Feb. 11, 2000, and I was doing my first live event [house show] because I had only done Raw, and we were in Denver. Rock mentioned it to one of the agents, and they had me sing it there that night. It went over so well that the agent had me do it that whole weekend – Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

“By Monday morning, Vince McMahon heard about it, and he mentioned it at the meeting. He said, ‘So I hear that someone took the house down and can sing. I’ve got to see it for myself. So I want you to sing it tonight.’ It was in San Jose for Raw on Feb. 14 on Valentine’s Day 2000, and I sang it ever since.”

Garcia knows all too well that being a ring announcer is a daunting task in WWE.

Garcia said: “I think they’ve gone through four girls already after me, and some of them talked to me and said, ’Wow. We never knew how hard this job was. You really do have to think on your feet all the time, and you’ve got to know everything.’ For me, it was years before. I mean I started getting more and more comfortable. Some of the rules for the matches were so long. When it’s rules, it’s different than when you’re talking to somebody 1-on-1. You can’t deviate from the rules. You can’t adlib the rules. You really have to memorize it.

“It can be they gave you the rules 45 minutes before the match or 15 minutes before the match. Then you have to memorize something really, really fast that’s technical. There were times even [near the end of her career] that my stomach was like because I didn’t want to mess up.”

The songstress also recalls auditioning for WWE and her first day on the job, which was a rocky experience to say the least. To read the article, click here.

Garcia is hoping to release her second music album or at least a single by the end of the year. Visit LilianGarcia.com for the latest on the progress of the album.

  • Lilian Garcia Talks About The Rock, Returning To WWE

Former WWE Diva Lilian Garcia, who is currently working on her second music album, recently spoke with the Miami Herald. Here are some highlights of what she said about:

Returning To WWE One Day: “I say, ‘Never say never,’. Look at The Rock now. It is something that I’m definitely tied to. Once you are in the WWE for a length of time, it’s a family base. You are tied in, no matter if you leave and take a break. Sometimes you come back; so you never know.”

The Rock’s WWE return: “I really didn’t think he would come back. I really thought with his movie career and all. I don’t blame him, though. It had been seven years. When he was making movies, he didn’t have that experience being with the fans and feeling that electricity from the fans. He thrives on that. It was having that experience again. People were tweeting me telling me how much they missed the interviews with me and The Rock. It was just such great chemistry that he and I had with those interviews. As soon as I saw him on TV again, it brought back memories of those days. It was just really cool.”
