Lilian Garcia Talks About Her Battle With Bulimia, Working With The Rock & More

On the latest episode of her “Making Their Way To The Ring” show on AfterBuzz TV, former WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia opened up about her struggle with bulimia,? the first time she announced for the WWE, her earliest wrestling memory, working with The Rock and much more. Here are some highlights they sent in:

Her first time announcing for WWE:

“?Twenty? ?minutes ?before I’m going live they told me I cannot use cue cards.?..?I had it written out because Tony Chimel helped me that afternoon and I had it written out. Thank ?G?od for photographic memory, because what I did then right before I went up-I literally, I’ve never been at a point where I thought I was gonna get so sick that I was about, I literally when he told me no cue cards ?twenty minutes? before I’m going to go live and I’m already irate. And I was like, ‘?b?ad time for a joke’. And they’re like ‘?n?o, no, no Kevin Dunn does not like, this is not boxing, you can’t.’ But I’m like, ‘But I don’t know anybody here and now I gotta know their weights, and their towns, what type of match it is, and if they hold the title?’…?I literally wanted to run ?ten? minutes before we were going live, I wanted to run. I saw myself literally getting up and bolting outta there.”

Working with The Rock:

“I did backstage interviews on Smackdown which is why The Rock and I had a lot of great backstage interviews because we were doing them on RAW and there was a whole chemistry there or whatever, which was cool that the writers saw that and went with that. Could you imagine if he becomes president, people are gonna start looking, The Strudel was born during my interview, oh my God! If you Google the Lilian Garcia interview, that’s like the first one you see.”

Her battle with bulimia and why she felt uncomfortable during a WWE swimsuit competition:

“So what happened was they wanted me to be in a swimsuit competition the next, I don’t know if it was a few weeks later or whatever. I had never done a swimsuit competition.?..In the pageants I had; however, it was a long time I’ve been in the pageants. I also had since the pageants I had suffered from bulimia.? ??I became very self conscious with my body and the thought of parading my body in the middle of a ring for you know, people to look at was mortifying to me. I also though when I told WWE that I didn’t feel comfortable about this and I mean I was really freaking out, I was in tears. I couldn’t even explain to them why because I hadn’t really come free and out in the open saying I had suffered from bulimia, I have body issues and so this is a really horrible thing for me to put myself in.

I just-I’m gonna, I’ll break down right in the middle of the ring, I will I just know it. I had total respect for anyone who wants to do it, like I don’t care, you know if that’s what you wanna do, but for me, my personal thing.?..?I struggled, the worst part about it I think was probably three years and then I finally got help. I threw up 15 times in one day.?..?I drove around to different-McDonalds and then I’d go over to 7-Eleven and I’d throw up there. And I was just really going through a lot and in my life,? ?I just remember feeling like I had no control. I was in college actually, I remember I was in college during this time.?..?You know how I became-I just remembered now. I never had a weight issue at all growing up, but here’s the thing. I never had a weight issue, I hit college and all of the sudden my metabolism changed and now all of a sudden I’m gaining weight and I don’t know how to deal with it. And so that was the time where it just became popular to do that so I started? ?doing that. And then it became-I lost control, I thought I was in control, I lost control. Plus that was before you knew it was bad for this, bad for that, all of a sudden my teeth are turning grey. It was just crazy…

So anyway, that was the day I threw up blood actually and that’s when I said ‘I gotta get help’. So I went and got help and thank? ?G??od for the guy, he was pretty fast at helping me out, patient, but it still lingers with me throughout the years and when I say linger, you will have an episode. It triggers, you throw up and then you go ‘ugh’ and then you’re like stay clean for a while and then you’ll have an episode and that went on for a few years.”

Lilian Garcia Says Her Father Died On Christmas Day

Lilian Garcia said today that her father, U.S. Army Retired Lt Colonel – Eduardo Garcia, lost his battle with cancer on Christmas Day.

She made the announcement in a post on Instagram and Facebook.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BOfhZFuBcI8/

On Aug. 1, Garcia announced her departure from WWE due to wanting to care for him during his battle with bladder cancer and multiple myeloma. She returned for one night on Dec. 14 at Tribute to the Troops, where she kicked off the show with “The Star-Spangled Banner.” She dedicated the performance to her dad and watched it with him on TV when the program aired on the USA Network the following night.

Is Lilian Garcia Still With WWE?, Vince McMahon’s Reaction To Her Tribute to the Troops Appearance

After announcing her departure from WWE in August to care for her ailing father, Lilian Garcia made a surprise appearance earlier this month at the company’s annual Tribute to the Troops event — held on Dec. 13 at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. The former ring announcer of Raw sang “The Star-Spangled Banner,” which may have left fans wondering if she could still return to the road on a full-time basis.

While Garcia has repeatedly said that she is no longer with WWE, the company never issued a formal announcement confirming her departure. WWE, however, quietly moved her profile on WWE.com to the Alumni section last week, which would indicate that she’s officially gone from the company. Up until then, she was listed as an active member of the WWE roster.

Garcia discussed her appearance at Tribute to the Troops last Monday on her podcast, Making Their Way To The Ring, where she again said that she needs to spend time with her father. She revealed that she lost part of her voice due to the stress she’s currently going through because of her father’s illness, which led to difficulty in getting through “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Garcia also talked about WWE welcoming her with open arms backstage at the show.

“It’s like a forever family, that I feel there. And then to see Triple H and Vince McMahon when I walked in and saw them … I mean, they both gave me this huge hug,” Garcia said.

“When I got done singing and I went back to Vince and thanked him for everything, he was just like, “‘Damn girl! I don’t know if that was the best you’ve ever sung it, or we just miss you around here!'”

Lilian Garcia Talks WWE Rules, The Secret To A Successful WWE Career, Tripping

Former WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia recently spoke to interview site Naluda.com and commented on the most challenging part about her WWE job – the rules. She said:

“RULES!!! When there were big matches, the rules, a page long, would be handed to me that day, sometimes right before the match. I had to memorize every word exactly as they were written, wow….what pressure!! The pressure came from me because I always wanted to do my best and make the match introductions extremely special!”

Lilian did have positive things to say about her longtime employer. She commented on the secret for a long and very successful WWE career like her own:

“Be dependable, care about your job, work hard, and above all be grateful for the opportunity! Know that working at WWE is a team effort. The less ego you have, the more you will enjoy the ride. And above all, have fun!!”

Lilian also commented on if she had any scary or embarrassing moments. We know she had several tripping incidents over the years, and she commented on one accident in London:

“Yes! Within 2 weeks of each other, during my entrance to the ring, one week my shoe strap broke where I had to take off my shoes and go barefoot to the ring, and the next one in London, I tripped over the pyro cannons that were not supposed to be there. Scary then, but sure is funny now!!”

Lilian Garcia Speaks Out On Her Departure From WWE, Life Struggles, Chris Benoit & More (Video)

In her first interview since announcing her decision to leave WWE last week, Lilian Garcia appeared on The Tomorrow Show on Monday night.

During the revealing interview, Garcia opened up about her decision to leave WWE, her father’s cancer, and various struggles in life. She also reflected on her 15-year career with WWE, and shared memories on Vince McMahon, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, Chyna, Owen Hart, Chris Benoit, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, Trish Stratus and many more.

Highlights from the interview are as follows:

Her decision to leave WWE:

Being at WWE is no longer an option. Being on road, skipping work, that’s never been me… you just can’t call in sick or take a leave of absence there, it just doesn’t happen. So it’s the right time for me to be gone from WWE for sure. I can spend way more time with him which is priceless.

Lilian said her dad feels guilty about her departure from WWE and that she misses it tremendously:

My dad feels really super guilty about this. He feels like everything that’s done, he feels like, I mean I’ve been at WWE for 15. So he’s feeling so bad and so responsible for this because I missed work for so many days and because I’m not there and I just keep telling him, I want to be here, I want to be here for you. And I can’t even imagine being on the road right now. If I was still there, my heart. I would literally take off and be on a plane and be like “what the hell I shouldn’t be on a plane right now.” I want to enjoy every second I can with him. So I’m glad I’m not there for that reason. I miss the fans tremendously, I miss the show, I miss everybody I work with. I wish I would’ve even gotten to say goodbye, I didn’t even get to say goodbye. It was just these decisions that were happening so quick and everything. But I do have to say one thing. WWE fans are incredible.

Will she ever return to WWE?

I have a love and a passion for WWE. And I received such beautiful e-mails from Vince, from Stephanie, from Triple H and just saying the door’s always open… we’ve all had such a great relationship over the years. If they were to call me to do something special…totally. I’d be all over it. It’s just a place that has really been good to me, and has been a wild ride.

Owen Hart’s tragic accident:

He passed away from an accident from what I understand he was going from his cape… But when he went for his cape the release button right here (point to shoulder) is right here too, from what I understand, so he hit the release on it and that’s why he went down…he was trying to adjust his cape, and the release latch was right there and so that’s why it released… So that was a total freak accident that happened.

Chyna’s backstage beef with her:

All of a sudden I hear ‘excuse me you’re in my way, you’re right in my way, like you’ve stood right in my way,’ and I look back and it’s Chyna. She was looking at herself from afar and I just kinda swooped right in and started doing this, not noticing that she was back there trying to get the, you know, the perspective. So I was just like oh my gosh I’m so sorry…that was 17 years ago.

Chyna apologizing to her:

One day after a few weeks I don’t remember exactly when, she looked at me she goes ‘I want to apologize to you, I want to apologize for the way that I have treated you, that I was kind of cold, I thought you were just like every other girl that just wants to be famous and just comes here and doesn’t really respect the business and I know you weren’t from, you know, didn’t grow up in the business and so I didn’t really give you a shot and I just am really sorry.’ And that was so big and so awesome and ever since that day we just had a great relationship.

Why she didn’t reach out during Chyna’s struggle with addiction:

I knew that she was in trouble when she left WWE but I didn’t feel like I could reach out to her because I didn’t feel like I was close enough and had been involved in her life to reach out in that way, and when you are dealing with an addiction, thats something way over my head.

Chris Benoit’s murder-suicide:

I remember that that day we were told that they were going to do a tribute show, and they said just go back to your hotel rooms and we’ll regroup tomorrow to do ‘Smackdown’. So, I’ll never forget that the four people — the three other people I was with that night were Victoria, Ric Flair and Rowdy Roddy Piper…we found a way to come together and really we really figured it out that WWE is a family…I knew Chris for seven years. Never expected that from him at all–ever.

The day she found out she couldn’t get pregnant, Candice Michelle called to tell her that she was pregnant:

The day that I found out that I couldn’t have a child was the day that Candice Michelle called me to tell me she was pregnant… She’s like ‘I got some great news!’ and she tells me she’s pregnant. I literally hold the phone like this and just tears streaming down my face. I couldn’t tell her that I couldn’t have a child. No way would I ruin her moment…I don’t think I’ve ever even told her. So she might hear about this. And we’ve stayed close since but I never wanted to ruin that moment for her.

Eddie Guerrero’s premature death is why she celebrates her birthday:

I remember Eddie Guerrero, he passed away at 39, and he didn’t make it to forty. So all of a sudden, I was just like ‘wait a minute, here’s someone who didn’t make it to their next birthday.’ So when I did, I was celebrating to no end. I was like this is crazy not to celebrate.

If WWE should offer therapy:

It wouldn’t have been a bad idea to have some kind of therapist to go “ok, so this has been your lifestyle and now here’s how I can help you transition into that.” So I think it’s a great idea and I’m all about therapy.

Being approached by a competing wrestling company during her two year hiatus from the WWE:

I was approached to join another company and I was like, ‘Well, I appreciate it, so much, but I didn’t leave to go jump and do another wrestling company because WWE for me has just been great.’

Having an eating disorder:

I struggled with eating disorder for many many years, I was bulimic. And I finally was like ‘okay.’ 15 times in one day I threw up. That’s when the frickin’ light went off on me and I went ‘okay I need help.’

Botch during an Undertaker match:

The Undertaker is having a match, oh my gosh, and I remember Edge was involved in the match and I believe it was a tag team, and I think Umaga was a part of that as well… the referee, I thought, counted to three so I rang the bell. All four of them turned and looked at me like ‘WHAT!?’

The one-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion said that it was a better name than “Mary,” and revealed that WWE wanted to name him that (when he joined the promotion in 2001).

“[Rhino is] a lot more marketable than Terrance Guido Gerin,” he said. “But Guido’s actually pretty over. It’s better than Mary. Actually WWE wanted to name me Mary, believe it or not.”

– After competing at WWE live events over the weekend, Eva Marie will be backstage at tonight’s Raw in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Backstage Talk On Lilian Garcia’s Status – Many People In WWE Thought She Was Released

As noted earlier, Lilian Garcia issued a statement yesterday on Facebook “to set the story straight” on her status with WWE after disappearing from television two weeks ago and rumors of her being released from her contract had spread online.

Garcia said she is still with WWE and that she will return to Raw on Monday after tending to her ailing father. Her father has been battling bladder cancer as well as multiple Myeloma, and had recently become very ill. Garcia, however, says his health has improved and he is doing much better now.

On today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed the situation and said that many people in WWE were under the belief that Garcia was among the performers released on May 6. However, he did note that there were also people in WWE saying she wasn’t let go.

“There were so many people of the impression that she was gone,” Meltzer said. “I had heard from so many people. People in the company thought she was gone, but there were people in the company who told me she wasn’t gone, too. But it had spread like crazy.”

After WWE publicly announced the releases of Damien Sandow, King Barrett, Santino Marella, Cameron, Hornswoggle, Alex Riley, El Torito and Zeb Colter, Meltzer was told that there were few more names who had been cut and were not announced. He received confirmation that Christian and Steve Lombardi (a/k/a The Brooklyn Brawler) were released from their respective contracts, and was told there were a few other names that hadn’t come out yet. Based on what he had been told, Meltzer was under the impression that Garcia “was one of the names.” He inquired WWE for official confirmation, but they never got back to him.

“Like I said, within the company, I know a lot of people within the company, people who were very close to the company, I heard over and over, all week long,” Meltzer said. “But again, since they didn’t confirm it, I didn’t want say nothing. I don’t know, it’s weird.”

Lilian Garcia Issues Statement Regarding Her WWE Future

Lilian Garcia issued a statement this afternoon on Facebook responding to rumors that she has been released from her contract with WWE.

In her statement, Garcia says she has not been released by WWE and that she will be back on Raw this Monday. She has been absent from television the past two weeks in order to spend time with her sick father, who has been battling bladder cancer and multiple Myeloma. Due to a bad reaction to chemotherapy, he became very ill these two weeks. Garcia, however, says he is doing much better now.

Garcia would like to thank WWE and fans for their support during this difficult time. Here is her statement in its entirety:

Imagine my surprise today when I woke up to find out that I was among the top trends in the world on twitter! What for, I said to myself….wait, does that say “Lilian Garcia released from WWE”?? That’s when I knew I had to set the story straight.

As you know, I have been absent from TV for the past few weeks missing “WWE Payback” & two “WWE Monday Night Raw’s”. I mentioned on twitter that it was due to a family member being ill. Well, that family member is my father.

He has been battling bladder cancer and multiple Myeloma (blood cancer) and due to a reaction to the chemotherapy, he became very ill these past two weeks. On top of that, he had to go into two emergency procedures on his kidneys. To say he has had it tough is an understatement. However, he is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the US Army, being a Veteran from the Korean and Vietnam Wars, so his spirit is that of a fighter. I am so inspired by how he has taken on this disease and continues to battle it with all his might. He has allowed me to share this story as he hopes his journey will inspire anyone else who is battling cancer. Luckily he is doing much better now and gearing up for a new treatment next week. As you can imagine, my entire family has been through a rollercoaster of emotions and cherishing all the time we have with him. I truly believe in the power of prayer and ask all of you to please pray for him and also my mother. They have been married for 62 years, so you can imagine the bond they share together.

I want to thank all of you for the many messages you have tweeted & FB’d me when you thought I had been released. It truly shows me how much I matter to you, and right now more than ever, I needed to know that. Above all, I want to thank the WWE for all their support & love during this hard time. They have been constantly checking in on me and also given me the time I needed to get my father strong again. I feel so proud to work for a company that cares so much.

So, on to Monday, I will be back on RAW and couldn’t be happier as I have missed you all very much!! Thank you and I love you!!!

Xoxo,
Lilian

Rumors of Garcia being let go arose Friday after former WWE creative writer Court Bauer claimed on MLW Radio that the tenured ring announcer was released as part of the organization’s recent wave of veteran talent cuts. After co-host John Pollock brought up Garcia’s tweet about returning to Raw this Monday, Bauer said he spoke to a source at WWE just before he recorded the podcast and was told that she was “quietly let go” last week. Bauer, however, then claimed that she was “notified that they’re not going to renew” her contract when it expires.
