WWE Diva Publicly Endorses Linda McMahon For U.S. Senate – Could She Get In Trouble?

WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia posted a message on Twitter today encouraging her followers living in Connecticut to vote for Linda McMahon as U.S. Senator.

Some of the Diva’s followers have speculated that she could get in trouble with WWE for publicly showing support for McMahon after Brian Jossie, who portrayed A.W., claimed in an August interview with Connecticut’s The Day that he was released from his contract with the sports-entertainment organization because he encouraged his followers to vote for her.

Upon being informed of his termination, Jossie said he received a phone call from Jane Geddes, Vice President of Talent Relations, telling him he committed a major faux pas with his pro-Linda tweet.

“For some reason they don’t want to associate her with anything to do with wrestling because it’s in the past,” Jossie said. “Vince (McMahon) doesn’t want any association with her campaign. They told me it’s two totally different entities, which I didn’t know. I thought I was doing a good thing.”

WWE, however, rejected Jossie’s claims in the article, attributing his release to poor judgment on live television and social media. Spokesperson Brian Finn stated, “WWE is a non-partisan organization. Superstars as well as employees are free to support any political party or candidate they choose. Unfortunately, Brian Jossie, playing the character of A.W., was terminated because he continued to exhibit poor judgment by making offensive and inappropriate comments on live television and on social media.”

The commission has received many complaints from Connecticut residents. For more on this story, visit NHRegister.com.

The New York Times has an article up looking at Linda McMahon’s campaign spending, noting that she is on the verge of hitting $100 million of her own money on two campaign. The article states:

“Ms. McMahon may or may not get to influence job creation as a senator. But she has already made an impact on the Connecticut economy by dishing out close to $100 million for two Senate races over the past three years, far more than anyone has ever spent of their own money to win any federal seat. She has long since blown by the $72 million Ross Perot spent of his own money on presidential bids in 1992 and 1996.”

Linda McMahon Expected To Lose Senate Race & Criticised Over Sandy

The New York Times is predicting that former WWE CEO Linda McMahon will lose her US Senate race in Connecticut to Democrat Chris Murphy.

Speaking of Linda McMahon, NBC anchor Brian Williams called her out for not suspending campaign advertising in the wake of Hurricane Sandy (video below).

Williams notes that several politicians have suspended their campaigns but Linda is still bombarding the airwaves with negative attack ads.

“In this part of the country, those who do have TV are seeing attack ads from a woman named Linda McMahon who is running for Senate up in Connecticut airing like nothing had changed juxtaposed against the damage,” Williams said. “It’s just a very strange time.”

It’s worth noting that Linda did cancel campaign events on Monday and Tuesday, and the Hartford Courant reports that both Linda and her opponent Chris Murphy are still running TV ads.

Mick Foley Talks About Ryback’s WWE Title Shot, Linda’s Campaign Spending

– To update Linda McMahon’s spending on her United States Senate campaign, Newsday.com reports that the former WWE CEO has now spent approximately $42.6 million on her current bid, almost matching the $50 million she spent in 2010.

– Here’s what Mick Foley told WWE.com about Ryback’s WWE title host against CM Punk tonight at Hell in a Cell:

“If there was ever a time not to hold anything back, it is in this match. We haven’t seen Ryback pushed past the five-minute mark. Five minutes would be a long Ryback match … [Punk] had a day off and spent it running a marathon; that is a guy who is in prime condition.”

– WWE will be holding a 30-minute online pre-show (Youtube.com, WWE.com) prior to Sunday’s WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, despite the fact that it wasn’t mentioned on RAW. No matches have been announced for the show, but John Cena will be addressing the situation of AJ Lee being removed as RAW General Manager.

– Linda McMahon has lost a lot of ground in her US Senate campaign against Democrat Chris Murphy.

A University of Connecticut/Hartford Courant poll has Linda behind trailing 44-38% with 17% undecided. A Hamilton Campaigns poll has Murphy up 46-40% with 10% undecided. Rasmussen’s latest poll has Murphy up 48-47%. Rasmussen typically skews Republican and had Chris Murphy previously up by 5%.

A big turning point in the race was the recent series of debates between the two candidates. While Linda McMahon didn’t do so bad, it’s believed that Murphy was the clear winner and stopped Linda’s momentum in its tracks.

Jhally, a communications professor at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, says he did not produce the documentary for political reasons but believes that McMahon should be held accountable for WWE’s influence on society during her time with the company.

Former Longtime WWE Photographer Goes Off On Linda McMahon

Tom Buchanan, the man responsible for taking many of WWE’s most famous photos  as the company’s chief photographer from 1987 to 2001, posted a long on Facebook status update on Friday slamming Linda McMahon’s political aspirations.

Though Buchanan considers the former WWE CEO a pleasant woman, he feels she is highly unqualified for a seat in the United States Senate from Connecticut:

“She has failed at just about every enterprise outside of the wrestling industry; she has hoarded vast profits for her own family while shutting out her workers; she has slashed the company workforce even while rolling in profits; and, in spite of a lifetime of opportunity she has failed to gain any direct relevant government experience that will translate to success in the United States Senate.”

Here is his post in its entirety:

(Caution: Extended POLITICAL POSTING about Connecticut…please do not read any further if politics, and the future direction of our nation offends you.)

It’s time for me to weigh-in on the Connecticut Senate Race in which Linda McMahon is challenging Representative Chris Murphy. If you are a Connecticut voter I hope you will hear me out, and if you find my comments interesting I hope you will share them with your friends and neighbors. I live in Vermont now, but for about 14 years I worked for Linda McMahon at WWF/WWE (1987-2001). She has done well as the CEO of a professional wrestling company, and Linda is nice enough in person, but based on my direct and personal experience I think she would be a terrible selection as a United States Senator. Please let me explain why.

First, we need serious people in the U.S. Senate who have legislative experience and an ability to work quietly to craft compromise legislation. Linda has no such experience. She has worked exclusively as a chief executive at her own company where she is accustomed to telling subordinates what to do, and always getting her way. Compromise is simply not part of Linda’s experience set, and she has made no effort to gain that needed skill and experience. She could have served as a state senator for a few years, or even served as an elected city or county level official, but she doesn’t seem to have an interest in the nitty-gritty skills required of a successful legislator.

Second, we need quiet Senators who have a demonstrated ability to work with others, and not seek personal glory. The United States Senate already has an abundance of famous rich people stoking their egos and unable to get along, or to even try to reach consensus. Linda McMahon is a self-styled celebrity executive worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and that is exactly what we don’t need any more of in Washington.

Third, Linda McMahon has twice sought to purchase the Senate seat by using her extraordinary wealth to buy name recognition and organizational support. In her 2010 campaign she spent a reported $50 million, and she’s spending lavishly again now. In every state there are outstanding legislators who have distinguished themselves over many years, but these experienced and successful legislators have been dissuaded from running for national office by the need to raise vast sums of money to compete with millionaire wannabes. Linda’s approach is troubling because she is using money in place of experience, but also because it intimidates good citizens with relevant experience, driving them away from politics and inflicting long term harm on the democratic process itself.

Forth, Linda McMahon has shown very little business success beyond the wrestling world, and in the wrestling world her success is as much a credit to the creative enterprise of her husband as it is to her own business dealings. Linda’s flagship company, WWF/WWE, has excelled in recent years, but most of her business interests beyond wrestling have failed miserably. WWF/WWE tried to move into professional football by launching the XFL, but even with the buy-in of NBC Television that effort fell flat. She tried to develop a franchise around professional bodybuilding with a company called World Body Building Federation (WBF), but after two years and many millions of dollars, the effort was shuttered as a failure. Part of the bodybuilding project was a TV show called Bodystars and a nutritional supplement called ICOPRO, but both of those side efforts quickly collapsed in an embarrassing pile of financial rubble. Linda also made an effort to break into the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) with two cars and a professional support team, but that lasted just a couple of years before the company slammed head-first into a marketing and financial crash-and-burn. Linda tried to redevelop a hotel complex in Las Vegas as a WWF themed attraction, but there too the company was in over its head, and when the project bogged down Linda shrugged and silently walked away from the expensive fiasco. And Linda took a very hands on approach to creating a restaurant franchise with a splashy flagship in Times Square, but it was an abysmal failure wrought with poor management and embezzlement, and it imploded with a balance sheet dripping brilliant red ink. Linda has even tried to muscle the company into Hollywood movies, but hasn’t had much success in that venue beyond the occasional film driven by wrestling talent and promoted on the existing wrestling programs. In short, Linda McMahon has shown financial success with the core wrestling product, but just about every time she has stepped outside of the wrestling business she has failed miserably. That’s a bad record to bring to the management of the United States of America.

Fifth, WWE has faced near-bankruptcy on several occasions and only made it through the periods of collapse by blind luck, and with the hard work and sacrifice of its staff. It might be alright for an executive to risk the bankruptcy of a business, but we need Senators who won’t risk the bankruptcy of the nation. Linda has shown time and again that she is willing to risk it all, and too often that risk has ended in failure and ruin.

Sixth, when Linda ran for the Senate in 2010 she proudly boasted to her corporate shareholders of slashing the company workforce, while at the same time the company was swimming in profit and the McMahon family was extracting dividends worth tens of millions of dollars. Her long standing loyalty to wealthy shareholders above hard workers is deeply disturbing, and not the kind of leadership that will serve the interests of most Americans.

Seventh, when WWF/WWE shifted from private ownership to a public company valued at more than a billion dollars, Linda granted free stock to family friends, but provided her long time employees with worthless ‘offering price’ options that granted no value whatsoever for their years of hard work. It was those workers who struggled through one downturn after another, and who helped the company claw its way from near bankruptcy to a billion dollars in value, but Linda kept the profits for her own family and gave the workers no piece of the enormous value they had created. Linda has consistently enriched herself at the expense of the workers, and has consistently failed to pass along meaningful value to the line-workers who create that wealth. We need United States Senators who recognize the contributions of workers, and who understand the importance of rewarding work over wealth. Linda is demonstrably not that person.

I could keep going with paragraph after paragraph critiquing Linda McMahon’s lack of appropriate experience, lack of a relevant skill set, and lack of meaningful support for the workers who have made her very, very rich. But I won’t.

Look, Linda McMahon is a pleasant person and I enjoyed working with her, but her business experience is limited; she has failed at just about every enterprise outside of the wrestling industry; she has hoarded vast profits for her own family while shutting out her workers; she has slashed the company workforce even while rolling in profits; and, in spite of a lifetime of opportunity she has failed to gain any direct relevant government experience that will translate to success in the United States Senate.

When voters go to the polls in Connecticut they need to play the role of a Human Resources Hiring Manager. From that perspective Linda McMahon is a fine person and she certainly has a nice professional presentation, but her resume is completely lacking in the relevant job skills, and her experience is heavy on failure and light on success. She has had ample opportunity to gain the requisite experience but hasn’t made any effort to do so, and clearly doesn’t deserve to waltz into the United States Senate simply because she is a passable actress with a nice smile and a fat checkbook.

WWE’s Upcoming “Attitude Era” DVD Comes Under Fire, Will Be Rated PG

WWE’s upcoming Attitude Era DVD and Blu-ray release has come under fire by two Connecticut publications since the sports-entertainment organization recently scrubbed hundreds of videos from that era off YouTube and other video-sharing websites after they were used in Democratic advertisements attacking U.S. Senate hopeful Linda McMahon.

Brian Lockhart of CTNews.com explains, “The company, still run by Linda’s husband, Vince, is protective of its brand when it helps Linda’s political career, but happy to profit off of those raunchier programs any other time.”

Asked Monday whether the title would contain any of the squashed material and why the organization was releasing the compilation after McMahon’s election, WWE spokesman Brian Flinn told Don Michak of JournalInquirer.com he needed more time to respond. Flinn, however, noted to Lockhart that the title will be rated PG and consistent with how the company has marketed itself in recent years.

Attitude Era is scheduled for release on November 20, 2012, according to Amazon.com.

Linda McMahon Slammed Again Over WWE Wrestler Deaths

One angle that Linda McMahon’s political adversaries have hammered the U.S. Senate hopeful with is the sizable number of wrestlers who worked for WWE while she reigned as CEO to die prematurely. She is being called out again on the matter as a political action committee in support of her Democratic opponent, Chris Murphy, has released a video entitled “Job Killer.”

The Democratic Super PAC Progress Connecticut notes in the enclosed video, “Since 2002, at least 28 athletes who worked for Linda McMahon’s WWE died before reaching the age of 50 from suicide, drug overdose, heart attacks and other medical causes. Based on her record of achievement at the WWE she wants to represent Connecticut in the U.S. Senate.”

In particular, the group takes McMahon to task over the 2007 death of Chris Benoit. Enclosed is a clip noting the late wrestler’s dependency on “drugs, amphetamines, painkillers, steroids, and more.” A clip is then shown of Michael Benoit recalling a conversation he had questioning his son on his drug usage.

“His response to me at the time was, “Dad, if I want a job, I have to,” recalled Michael.

In a challenge to WWE to have the video removed, Progress Connecticut stated, “Any attempt by WWE to coerce YouTube to take down this video for copyright infringement would be clear evidence of illegal coordination between the McMahon campaign and the WWE.”

McMahons Respond To Attacks About Not Paying Property Taxes

The Hartford Courant and The New York Times are reporting that Vince and Linda McMahon are 51 days late on paying their property tax bills for a million dollar condo they co-own in Stamford, Connecticut.

Chris Murphy is using this as an opportunity to take shots at his opponent for the Connecticut Senate seat.

The McMahons were late on paying half of their annual $54,110 tax bill. On Friday, they paid the full year bill, plus $1,217 in interest.

Murphy claims that Linda was “caught red-handed skipping out on the taxes on her $4 million luxury penthouse at the Trump Tower and only paid it back today.”

McMahon’s campaign responded that the city of Stamford only mailed the tax bill two weeks ago (September 13) and it was “the only bill received by the McMahons for this tax period.”

Her campaign spokesman claimed Murphy was “just another corrupt, career politician who will do or say anything to get elected to higher office.

Vince and Linda McMahon Settling $1 Million In Debts, Scotty 2 Hotty On Facebook, WWE Vintage Collection

– Linda McMahon announced Thursday night that she and her husband Vince would pay back, with interest, creditors listed on their bankruptcy filing in 1976. According to Politico.com, the debt totals more than $1 million to 26 creditors. Her announcement came two days after Connecticut publication The Day found bankruptcy records outlining the McMahons’ debts at a National Archives facility in Massachusetts. Linda previously said she couldn’t locate the documents.

Linda’s Senate opponent, Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy, was not impressed with her gesture. “Even after this stunning and desperate late-night reversal by Linda McMahon, questions still remain,” Murphy spokesman Eli Zupnick said. “Voters deserve to know who she still owes, how she plans to pay them back, how much, and why she only now decided to make right on her debts.”

An article on the matter is available here.

– Former WWE Superstar Scotty 2 Hotty is now on Facebook. Now 42, he continues to compete independently after leaving WWE in 2007.

– The following matches were featured on the September 21 episode of WWE Vintage Collection on Canada’s The Score: Bradshaw vs. William Regal (WWE Raw – June 10, 2002), Booker T vs. Lance Storm (WCW Monday Nitro – August 7, 2000), Bret Hart vs. Goldust (WWF Monday Night Raw – January 22, 1996), Sting vs. Ric Flair (WCW Clash Of The Champions – June 23, 1994). – WWE Divas Natalya and Rosa Mendes have been feuding on Twitter this week to hype their series of matches at WWE live events.

– Linda McMahon upcoming debate against Chris Murphy will be televised in Connecticut on October 7th at 11am.

– Speaking of Linda, she and Vince will pay off debts from their 1970’s bankruptcy (with interest) after her political opponent Chris Murphy used it against her in attack ads. A statement from McMahon’s campaign reads:

“Over the past two days, Vince and I have begun attempts to locate and reach out to all individuals on the creditor list. It is our intention to reimburse all private individual creditors that can be located. We feel it is the right thing to do to pay them in full, including an adjustment for inflation at four times the initial amount as shown on the list of creditors.”

WWE Has “Hot Lesbian Action” Video Attacking Linda McMahon Removed, Update On Ezekiel Jackson

– The Connecticut Democratic Party continues to attack Linda McMahon with racy WWE footage that occurred while she reigned as the sports-entertainment organization’s CEO.

After releasing an attack video Monday showcasing clips of Edge and Lita’s “Live Sex Celebration” and Triple H dressed as Kane simulating mock sex with a mannequin in a casket, the party posted a video of the infamous “Hot Lesbian Action” segment that occurred on Raw ten years ago. The video, which was posted on Vimeo.com, was quickly removed due to a third-party notification by WWE claiming copyright infringement.

Eric Bischoff, the then-figurehead of Raw, announced on September 9, 2002 the introduction of an exciting and revolutionary new segment—“H.L.A.” Roughly an hour later, Bischoff returned and introduced two women—Looney Lane and Savvy from the California-based independent promotion Ultimate Pro Wrestling. They were given no names—the on-screen graphic simply identified them as “The Lesbians.” The two young ladies proceeded to kiss each other deeply and strip down to their undergarments in front of the audience. Bischoff them summoned the enforcer tandem Three Minute Warning, who proceeded to assault the two young women into unconsciousness.

– Ezekiel Jackson, who has not appeared in a WWE ring in over two months, tweeted an update regarding his whereabouts Wednesday. The one-time Intercontinental Champion suggested he has been sidelined with an injury.

“Met with Doc. here in beautiful Birmingham Alabama… I’m on the right track, healing well and can begin training… #myjourneycontinues,” he wrote.

WWE Has Video Ad Attacking Linda McMahon Taken Down

A video advertisement released by Connecticut Democrats on Monday morning featuring racy WWE footage that occurred while Linda McMahon reigned as the sports-entertainment organization’s CEO was taken down within hours.

WWE had the video, which featured clips of Edge and Lita’s “Live Sex Celebration” and Triple H dressed as Kane simulating mock sex with a mannequin in a casket, pulled at 3:51 p.m. on Monday afternoon. The page now features a statement reading: “Vimeo has removed or disabled access to the following material as a result of a third-party notification by World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. claiming that this material is infringing: PG TV?.”

The video is one of many clips to be removed in recent days as the sports-entertainment organization takes down material which it says “has been misused in political environments” and seeks to transition into a “more family-friendly” brand.

Here is the press release the Connecticut Democratic Party released Monday morning touting the video:

WHAT LINDA MCMAHON DOESN’T WANT YOU TO SEE: CONNECTICUT DEMOCRATS ROLL OUT NEW CAMPAIGN TO HIGHLIGHT MCMAHON’S RECORD THAT THE WWE IS TRYING TO HIDE

WHAT LINDA MCMAHON DOESN’T WANT YOU TO SEE: CONNECTICUT DEMOCRATS ROLL OUT NEW CAMPAIGN TO HIGHLIGHT MCMAHON’S RECORD THAT THE WWE IS TRYING TO HIDE

(Hartford, Connecticut) In response to news that the WWE is scrubbing the internet of sexually explicit material from Linda McMahon’s tenure as CEO, the Connecticut Democratic Party is launching a new campaign to highlight the truth about McMahon’s past. The fact is that Linda McMahon made millions marketing sex, violence, necrophilia, and abusive treatment of women to children – all at the expense of the health and safety of her own workers – and is now spending a fortune on attacks and lies to try and distract from her record.

To kick off the campaign, today the Connecticut Democratic Party is re-releasing a video that highlights the type of programming Linda McMahon marketed to children. The video includes footage of wrestlers engaging in lewd sex acts, including one scene in which a wrestler has sex with a corpse.

To watch the video, click here.

“Linda McMahon made millions peddling sex, violence, necrophilia, and abusive treatment of women to kids – all at the expense and safety of her own workers – and is now spending a fortune on attacks and lies to distract from her past,” said Nancy DiNardo, Chairwoman of the Connecticut Democratic Party.

“Despite the WWE’s best efforts to play cover-up, they can’t erase Linda McMahon’s past. Why would Linda McMahon’s WWE cronies be trying to body slam the truth? Because Republican candidate Linda McMahon is afraid of it. We’re going to make sure Connecticut families have the facts and know the truth about Linda McMahon’s record.”

WWE Removing “Attitude Era” Videos Amid Linda McMahon’s United States Senate Campaign

WWE announced late Thursday that it was removing “dated and edgier” footage from its official website and media platforms, a day after co-founder Linda McMahon’s political opponent used clips in an attack ad.

“To better reflect our current family-friendly brand of entertainment, WWE is removing some dated and edgier footage from digital platforms,” said Brian Flinn, WWE’s Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, in a statement. “Some of this footage has been misused in political environments without any context or explanation as to when it was produced. This damages the corporate reputation of our company. WWE is well within its rights to protect its intellectual property for fair use.”

Flinn said the footage removal is not related to an ad released Wednesday by Rep. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat running for Senate against McMahon, which featured WWE footage while slamming her for allegedly off-shoring profits to avoid taxes and failing to provide health coverage for their performers. Rather, it is part of a re-branding effort.

While WWE held a PG-14 rating for much of the late 1990s and early 2000s when she was running the organization with her husband, Vince McMahon, its current content is rated PG or G.

More details on the story are available at Politico.com and CTMirror.org.

Linda McMahon Ripped For WWE Ties In New Attack Ad

Democratic U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy is taking Linda McMahon to task over her past ties to WWE as the Connecticut Senate hopeful released a new television advertisement Wednesday accusing the wrestling executive of laying off employees while her company hauled millions in tax credits.

The ad also accuses McMahon of denying Medicare, Social Security and unemployment to her wrestlers.

“McMahon laid off workers while taking millions in tax credits. Denied them health care,” the advertisement says.

In response, WWE said to NorwichBulletin.com that its full-time employees have always had health insurance, while its wrestlers are responsible for acquiring their own health insurance.

According to Murphy’s campaign, McMahon laid off 10 percent of her work force in 2009 and then received about $10 million in tax credits designed to create jobs.

“Since day one, McMahon has been running on her record as a ‘job creator,’ but the truth is that McMahon is a job killer,” said Murphy spokeswoman Taylor Lavender.

WWE said after reducing its work force by 10 percent, the tax credits enabled the company expand its work force by almost 30 percent.

The ad also states, “Linda McMahon took home $46 million a year. Now she’s proposing to give herself an up to $7 million tax cut. That’s the real Linda McMahon. She takes care of herself, no matter who pays the price. Linda McMahon, profits before people.”

McMahon campaign spokesman Todd Abrajano said of Murphy’s attack, “This new ad from Chris Murphy is just a desperate attempt to distract from the issues that come to light in his campaign.”

Linda McMahon Leading In CT Senate Race, RAW’s Social Media Score Up 18%

Quinnipiac University has released new polling data that shows Linda McMahon is currently leading her Democratic challenger Chris Murphy 49% to 43% in a battle for one of Connecticut’s United States Senate seats.

“The poll is good news for Linda McMahon. In our first likely voter poll in Connecticut, McMahon has a 3 point advantage in a too-close-to-call-race.
