Another AEW Star Dealing with an Injury (Report)

Yet another prominent star from All Elite Wrestling is reportedly dealing with an injury.

This year has seen several top names from the promotion go down hurt, including CM Punk (twice) and Bryan Danielson.

Adam Cole has been out for months due to a concussion, while ‘Hangman’ Adam Page is also on the shelf.

This week, it was reported that Abadon suffered an injury while competing at an indie event.

Luchasaurus Injured

Luchasaurus is just the latest AEW star to have been bitten by the injury bug, according to Bryan Alverez.

During the latest Wrestling Observer Live, Alverez suggested that the former AEW World Tag Team Champion has injured his right arm.

“This Luchasaurus is hurt. I don’t know if you noticed, but he did a left-armed chokeslam. He’s hurt. I don’t know how long he’s been hurt, but he’s been hurt for a while now. Hopefully, it’s not something serious.”

Despite this reported injury, Luchasaurus is scheduled to face Jungle Boy at Full Gear this weekend in a Steel Cage match.

Luchasaurus Vs. Jungle Boy

In 2019, mere months into AEW starting, Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy would form the popular Jurrasic Express, and would capture the World Tag Team Championships in January of this year.

Later recruiting Christian Cage, Jurassic Express would lose the titles in July, and Cage would turn on Jungle Boy, with Luchasaurus also turning on Jungle Boy.

At Fyter Fest Week 2, Luchasaurus turned on Christian Cage to realign with Jungle Boy, but this proved to be a short-lived team, and turned on Jungle Boy again at AEW All Out.

“There’s No Passion” – Cornette Criticizes AEW Star’s Promo Ability

AEW star Jungle Boy and Christian Cage have been in a feud on Dynamite for the past two months. Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus were known as Jurassic Express in the promotion, and Christian served as their manager during their reign as AEW Tag Team Champions.

However, the 48-year-old betrayed Jungle Boy at AEW Dynamite: Road Rager and even convinced Luchasaurus to turn heel for a couple of weeks. Christian has made it even more personal with references to Jungle Boy’s mother and his recently passed father, famous actor Luke Perry.

He recently challenged Christian to a match at AEW All Out on September 4th and brutally attacked him on this past Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite. Jungle Boy has since responded with a promo of his own and beat Christian down on last week’s episode of Dynamite.

Jim Cornette Wonders If Jungle Boy Will Figure It Out

On a recent episode of the Jim Cornette Experience, he was very critical of Jungle Boy and wondered if he was ever going to “get it”.

Does Jungle Boy have it? Is it going to come out? If it was, would it have come out by now? Verbally, speaking on television, having any kind of passion or emotion. Are all people of his age bracket this boring?

Jim Cornette on Jungle Boy

Co-host Brian Last suggested that Jungle Boy may find more success down the road as a heel but Cornette wasn’t optimistic. Jim claimed that the only way he could pull that off was if Jurassic Express reunited as heels, and Jungle Boy played the role of an instigator hiding behind Luchasaurus.

While Jungle Boy may not be dynamic on the microphone yet, he’s already established himself as one of the talents with the most potential on the AEW roster. The 25-year-old’s match against Christian Cage at all All Out will be the biggest match of his young career.

Luchasaurus Injury Update

Luchasaurus was forced to pull out of the AEW tag team title tournament due to a hamstring injury. He suffered the injury just 2-hours before his Jurrasic Express team was to take on the Lucha Bros on AEW Dynamite last week. Luchasaurus would be replaced by Marko Stunt in the match.

It turns out the injury to Luchasaurus isn’t as bad as originally thought, however. According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Luchasaurus suffered a strained hamstring and not a torn one.

“He has a strained hamstring, not a full tear,” wrote Dave Meltzer.

A strained hamstring takes a few weeks to recover from whereas a torn hamstring can be between 6-8 months.

Luchasaurus and the Jurrasic Express in AEW

After replacing Luchasaurus in the match, Marko Stunt took to Facebook to talk about the experience.

“I wasn’t originally supposed to be there this week,” Stunt begins the post. “Luckily, for some reason, they asked me to come in this past Friday, and I was going to be on AEW Dark this coming Tuesday.”

“In a very unfortunate situation, Luchasaurus was injured just 2 hours before the show, and they asked me to step in. The most nervous and uncomfortable I’ve been was right there at that moment. I was being asked to step in the ring with two of the best on 2 hours notice, on national television, for my tv debut.”

Luchasaurus On The Origin Of His Name

There is no shortage of bizarre names in the wrestling world but they are mostly chosen by the promoters or the wrestlers themselves. However, Luchasaurus is a rare case where it were the fans who came up with the name.

The AEW Star recently appeared on the Talk Is Jericho podcast and during the show; he discussed the origin of his name, revealing that it were the fans in Lucha Underground who came up with it.

The former Lucha Underground star recalled how fans were chanting something during his debut for the company. He thought they were chanting ‘You Just Started’ and realized what they were really saying only after he returned to backstage:

“I went to the back and my good friend John Morrison was back there and I asked him how it was. I think they hated it, but he said, no man, they were chanting, ‘Luchasaurus!’ I’m like, what? What is that? He said I don’t know but I think you should run with it”

After this, Luchasaurus, who was in need to reinvent his character decided to go with the name. He started using it in independent circuit in November 2017.

He did face some difficulties getting booked with the name initially because people were not taking it seriously, but the wrestling star did not give up. Now he has become one of the fan favorites in AEW using the persona which was given to him by fans themselves.

Luchasaurus On Which WWE Star He Took Inspiration From

Luchasaurus first made his name working for Lucha Underground. He has quickly become a fan favorite in AEW as well and many see him as a future world champion of the company.

The AEW Star was the latest guest on Talk is Jericho podcast where he opened up about his journey in wrestling so far and he revealed which WWE star he has taken inspiration from.

The former Lucha Underground star revealed that he took inspiration from the former World Champion Kane, and The Big Red Monster was the first star he studied when he got the mask:

“Kane was actually the first guy I tape studied when I got the mask. I immediately went to Kane. My vision was to be the new-age Kane, where I had the hair out and I wanted to make it a face mask and open up the mouth because I did want to have impressions still,”

Luchasaurus went on to explain how Kane was the guy for him because selling with the mask is very difficult but the way the WWE Star did it was very good.

Apart from this, the AEW star discussed the development of his character in detail and also talked about being paired with Jungle Boy in the company.

Luchasaurus On How He Got Paired With Jungle Boy

While Luchasaurus started in AEW as a singles competitor, his popularity has seen a big jump after he did some promos with Jungle Boy and the company has now paired the two as a tag team.

The AEW Star recently took part in a media scrum where he discussed many things including the competition between AEW and WWE and more.

While talking about his pairing with Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus explained how it came about. He said that AEW Officials are keen on listening to audience response and this is why they were paired with each other:

“What’s so great about working for them is they’re really keen on listening to audience response. That’s why they kind of let me and Jungle Boy get together in the first place. We did a couple of spots a couple of promos, and people loved it so much it was like, ‘We’re just going to run with this’. “

Marko Stunt is another addition to this team which has been made recently and while talking about him, the former Lucha Underground Star said that they are very excited about it.

He revealed that they have a lot of ideas for Stunt and he is kind of the missing ingredient to some of the things they are planning to do in their matches.

Luchasaurus Talks About Comparisons Between Himself And Jungle Boy To Kane & X-Pac, Discusses “Jungle Book” Formula

All Elite Wrestling’s resident dinosaur-luchador, Luchasaurus, has discussed the “Jungle Book” connection between himself and Jungle Boy while speaking with press during Starrcast III. He also addressed the comparisons fans have made between their pairing to when Kane teamed with X-Pac in WWE.

Looking back on his time in ROH, NXT, and Lucha Underground, Luchasaurus spoke about only really being comfortable doing promos if he was being himself.

“I was like ‘Let me just put on the mask and be myself and see what happens,'” he explained. “And I think it’s kind of something that’s getting over with the audience. I think a lot of that has to do with Jungle Boy too, because he’s such a good babyface partner for me to have on my shoulder just kind of pantomime what I’m saying. So I kind of just wanted to be myself wearing the mask, and see where that goes, and just kind of be creative with it.”

Jungle Book Connection

He admitted that the “formula” between himself and Jungle Boy is the same one that helped Kane and X-Pac click with fans:

“[Marco Stunt and Jungle Boy are] kind of like these little babyfaces that need to be protected by the big monster. I come in and clean up after they get beat – it’s this tested kind of thing in wrestling that I think really works. Jungle Boy is such a likeable character. Kids are gonna connect with it, and he makes me—he humanized my character really. I think he gave me the backstory without me saying anything. Because it’s just a ‘Jungle Book’ thing that connects.”

In order to make sure the dynamic between them worked, Luchasaurus actually researched Kane and X-Pac matches to replicate their connection. He added that, despite making the formulas work, AEW works at a different pace and level compared to when the former WWE Superstars were an active tag team.
