Luke Harper Requests WWE Release

Luke Harper wants out of WWE.

On Tuesday, the former Intercontinental and multi-time tag team champion revealed on Twitter than he has requested his release from WWE after spending the past six years with the promotion.

Harper (real name Jonathan Huber) had just recently returned to WWE television after suffering a wrist injury that put him out of action for a period of time. He appared at WrestleMania 35 as one of the participants in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal but now nine days later he’s asking to leave WWE.

“As of this evening, I have requested a release from WWE,” Harper wrote on Twitter. “The past six years have been a simple amazing journey around the world and back with lifelong friends and family. I am proud of it all and proud to say I shared the ring with my co-workers.

“This decision, as difficult as it was, feels right for myself and WWE. My goal in the future is to continue to grow as a performer and person and continue to make my family proud. Thank you. From the top to the bottom of WWE. Thank you to the fans for your undying support. Thank you everyone.”

Harper came to the WWE after working the independent wrestling scene starting in 2003 before finally signing with the promotion under a developmental contract in 2012.

Harper was almost immediately put into a group dynamic alongside Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan as the Wyatt Family in NXT before they eventually made the move up to the main roster.

Harper primarily worked in tag team matches with Rowan and they were later rebranded as ‘The Bludgeon Brothers’ where they went onto win the Smackdown tag team titles.

After Rowan suffered an injury that put him out of action, Harper was also sidelined by his wrist injury. In late March, Harper revealed that he had been cleared to return to the ring but he still hadn’t been inserted into any storylines on television until he made his surprise appearance at WrestleMania 35 where he was eliminated by Braun Strowman during the battle royal.

Now Harper is looking to take his career elsewhere after requesting his release from WWE. As of now the promotion hasn’t made any statement regarding Harper’s future including if they will grant his release from WWE.

Luke Harper Comments On His Announced Return

WWE recently confirmed a number of matches for WrestleMania Axxess and one of the more interesting names included in the star list was Luke Harper.

Harper hasn’t been on TV since his then partner Erick Rowan suffered a biceps injury during last year’s SummerSlam PPV and had to take time off for surgery.

Shortly after being taken off TV, Harper also decided to take care of an injury of his own, and he underwent surgery due to a wrist injury.

While he returned to in-ring competition earlier this month, it was during a Live Event and the company didn’t acknowledge the former Wyatt Family Member’s comeback.

Now it appears that his announced Axxess match against Dominik Dijkaovic will be dubbed as his return bout and commenting on his spot, Harper himself mentioned on Twitter that he will be making his return during WrestleMania weekend:

He later shared a longer statement on the matter and by the looks of it, it appears that going from being a champion on SmackDown to being booked for Axxess is something that has taken a toll on his heart:

At this point, there is no news on when the former Intercontinental Champion will make his on-screen return but it’s likely to happen after WrestleMania.

As we noted before, WWE will be holding a Superstar Shakeup on April 15th and 16th and it would make sense for Luke Haprer to make his return during that time and be assigned to a new brand.

Luke Harper Returns To Action At WWE Live Event

Luke Harper made his return to in-ring competition under the WWE banner at a RAW live event on Saturday night in Rochester, NY at the Blue Cross Arena. He battled and beat Mojo Rawley in a singles bout. This marked his first match since November 2018.

Harper hasn’t been seen on TV since the August 21st episode of SmackDown Live in Brooklyn, New York the night after the SummerSlam pay-per-view event where he and Rowan lost the SmackDown Tag Team Titles to The New Day. Rowan suffered a suffered a torn bicep and thus the reason Harper was taken off of TV.

He did work working some NXT live events in the latter part of 2018. During this time, Harper also underwent surgery due to a wrist injury. Since then, Rowan made his return to television at the Royal Rumble PPV where he was paired with WWE Champion Daniel Bryan.

Triple H Congratulates The Revival, Update on Luke Harper’s Status

The Revival won the RAW Tag Team Championships this past Monday night. The team were one of the highlights of the NXT brand during their time there, having blow away matches with the likes of DIY and American Alpha. Triple H took to Twitter to congratulate the team on their win, saying “Uncompromising in beliefs. Undying in passion. And unstoppable in their pursuit to be the best. Congratulations to @DashWilderWWE and @ScottDawsonWWE on becoming the NEW #Raw Tag Team Champions.”

Former Wyatt Family member Luke Harper is reportedly close to a return to WWE. PWInsider claimed that Harper was backstage for last night’s Smackdown in Toledo, OH. Harper did not appear on the programme and there’s no word on when he is likely to return to television. It is also unclear if he will be paired with Erick Rowan, his Bludgeon Brothers tag team partner. Rowan is currently working alongside WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, so there is a chance that Harper joins the team and they become a full stable. Harper has been off television since August 2018. Harper was seen with a cast on his left hand a few months ago, possibly indicating that he had surgery. He has been at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando recently working towards his in-ring return.

Returning WWE Star Scheduled For SmackDown Live

One returning WWE star is slated to be backstage at Tuesday’s SmackDown TV event Toledo, OH at the Huntington Center.

That star is former WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion Luke Harper, according to a recent report by Mike Johnson of PWInsider. As of this writing, there’s no word yet on if he’ll be making his return on this show.

The New Day beat The Bludgeon Brothers (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan) to win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles on the August 21st episode of SmackDown Live in Brooklyn, New York the night after the SummerSlam pay-per-view event.

The reason for this title change is due to Rowan suffering an injury in that match at SummerSlam and undergoing surgery that same week. As a result, instead of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon making the decision to keep Harper on the blue branded show, it was decided to pull him off television.

During this time, Harper also underwent surgery due to a wrist injury. Since then, Rowan made his return to television at the Royal Rumble PPV where he was paired with WWE Champion Daniel Bryan.

Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live will serve as the go-home show for the Elimination Chamber of the blue brand.

Bludgeon Brothers Cleared For In-Ring Return

SmackDown Live’s Tag Team division will be getting back a big piece to the puzzle. PWInsider reports that The Bludgeon Brothers (Harper and Rowan) have been cleared to make their in-ring returns. The former SDL Tag Team Champions will be back on the road with WWE as early as next week’s episode for the blue brand in Wichita, Kansas. Earlier this week, Rowan was spotted at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.

He suffered a bicep tear back in August that forced him to be shelved. As for Harper, he was seen wearing a cast on his left hand for the past several months. However, he’s now ready to get back to work inside the ring as well. The Bludgeon Brothers were forced to drop their SDL Tag Team Titles the Tuesday after SummerSlam last year. Due to Rowan’s injury, he and Harper were defeated by The New Day to drop the titles before going on hiatus.

With The Bludgeon Brothers now back in the fold, they’ll re-join SDL’s Tag Team division, which is currently championed by The Bar (Sheamus and Cesaro). It remains to be seen how long it’ll take before they get back into the title mix.

What do you think about The Bludgeon Brothers returning to the SDL Tag Team division?

Ricochet Says NXT Is No.1 In Wrestling; Luke Harper Looks Back On His IC Championship Run

Ricochet Says NXT Is No.1 In Wrestling

After his WarGames match at last night’s NXT TakeOver: Wargames pay-per-view event, NXT North American Champion Ricochet took to Twitter to express his belief that NXT is the number one brand in all of sports entertainment and wrestling according to him.

He wrote, “It gets thrown around a lot, but I firmly believe that @WWENXT is the #1 in sports entertainment/wrestling whatever you like to call it. Top to bottom, everyone always delivers.

Tonight was special. Thank you all.”

Ricochet was a part in the WarGames match at TakeOver last night as Pete Dunne, War Raider and him defeated The Undisputed Era.

Luke Harper Looks Back On His IC Championship Run

Luke Harper has been in the WWE since around 2012 and has held a SmackDown Tag Team and NXT Tag Team title in the company. Apart from the tag titles, the only singles title he has held has been the Intercontinental Championship. The 38 year-old reflected on his reign as the IC Champion from four years ago as he won the title from Dolph Ziggler on Raw.

He tweeted the following:

“4 Years ago today I reversed a @heelziggler attempt at a Bella Buster and became @wwe Intercontinental Champion. It didn’t last long but man was it special. It also led to one of my greatest matches ever at TLC that year.”

Injury Update On Luke Harper

Recently, former SmackDown Live Tag Team Champion Luke Harper was spotted backstage wearing a cast on his left hand. Per Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Harper is currently recovering from a wrist surgery. Harper recently underwent surgery since WWE wasn’t doing much with him due to his partner, Erick Rowan, being sidelined.

Rowan suffered a torn right bicep during “The Bludgeon Brother’s” SmackDown Live Tag Team Title defense against The New Day at SummerSlam. However, the following Tuesday, due to Rowan’s injury, The Bludgeon Brothers dropped the titles to The New Day on SmackDown Live. It was unfortunate timing given Harper and Rowan were receiving a nice push as a monster tag team.

As it turns out, there have been pitches made to have Harper return in a reunion with Bray Wyatt. That would be fitting given WWE hasn’t done anything with Wyatt after Matt Hardy’s in-ring retirement from WWE. Perhaps the pair will get back into the mix in time for a WrestleMania 35 program.

Still A Tag Team

Recently, Rowan spoke on “E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness” to talk about his WWE career. At one point, Harper and Rowan were to be split up. However, they were then thrust into The Bludgeon Brothers, and things worked out:

“Years ago, me and Rowan were told we’re done. We’re done being a team, we’ve done everything we can, and we’re here for five years later in a whole new thing and we’re tag team champions, so I can’t complain.”

What do you think WWE will do with Harper upon his return?

Luke Harper Possibly Out With Injury

There is speculation Luke Harper might be on the injured list at the moment. He was spotted last night with a cast on his left hand. His last match was an October 1st house show in Kennewick, WA. The last time he was on WWE programming was August 21st when he and Rowen dropped the tag titles to New Day on Smackdown.

Comedian, Brad Williams of Netflix’s “the Degenerates”, posted that Harper showed up to his comedy show last night:

Rowen suffered a torn pec (which has really been going around lately) this summer and has been on the injured list ever since.

Harper and Rowen

Collectively known as the Bludgeon Brothers, Eric Rowan, and Luke Harper held the Smackdown tag team titles from WrestleMania to August 21st. Harper was on the Edge and Christian podcast earlier this year and detailed his reaction to learning of the Bludgeon Brothers gimmick.

“[…] instantly, in my head, I go, ‘man, it’s 2018. What are we doing?’ And that lasted about a fleeting second. And then I said, ‘oh, this is f*****g awesome!”

“Years ago, me and Rowan were told we’re done. We’re done being a team, we’ve done everything we can, and we’re here for five years later in a whole new thing and we’re tag team champions, so I can’t complain.”

Luke Harper Wrestles At NXT Live Event (Video)

Anything can happen in WWE, and tonight (Thurs. September 6, 2018) was a perfect example.

SmackDown Live star Luke Harper appeared at the NXT live event in Buffalo, New York. He challenged NXT North American Champion Ricochet for his title. Check out a video of Harper making his surprise entrance here:

Some in attendance said the match between the pair was actually pretty good. They even shook hands after it was all said and done:

https://twitter.com/MikeStrawMedia/status/1037873193598562305

Harper needs to keep busy after his tag team partner, Erick Rowan, suffered an injury that will keep him shelved for some time. The pair were forced to drop the SDL Tag Team Titles to The New Day a few weeks ago due to Harper’s injury.

As for Ricochet, he’s enjoying his reign as NXT North American Champion. He defeated Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 to capture the title in an amazing bout. He’s definitely someone to keep your eye on when he eventually comes to the main roster.

Luke Harper On His Reaction To Vince McMahon Proposing The Bludgeon Brothers Carry Mallets

Luke Harper, one-half of the current SmackDown Live tag team champions, was a recent guest on the popular podcast, E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness.

Hosted by WWE legends, Edge and Christian, the podcast covered a range of topics, including how Harper assumed WWE wouldn’t sign him, his run with the Wyatt family, as well as building chemistry with his partner Rowan.

The conversation turned to how Harper and Rowan were going to be split up, as well as his initial reservations over the mallet gimmick.

“Years ago, me and Rowan were told we’re done. We’re done being a team, we’ve done everything we can, and we’re here for five years later in a whole new thing and we’re tag team champions, so I can’t complain.”

Forgotten Push

It was only last year that it looked like Harper was being prepared for a major single run. Matches against the likes of AJ Styles, Randy Orton, and even his old leader, Bray Wyatt, pointed towards a renewed belief in his singles ability.

All that was put to the back burner, however, after WWE repackaged the former Wyatt members as the Bludgeon Brothers.

Harper said during the podcast, “[…] what WWE wants right now, they want me in a team, so here we go. Let’s make it the best we can. And maybe there’ll be a time when I’m not in a team and then I’ll worry about that.”

When first approached by WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, about the team carrying hefty mallets around with them, Harper recollected, “[…] instantly, in my head, I go, ‘man, it’s 2018. What are we doing?’ And that lasted about a fleeting second. And then I said, ‘oh, this is f*****g awesome!”

The Bludgeon Brothers defend their SmackDown Live tag team championships against The New Day this Sunday at SummerSlam, in Brooklyn, New York.

Luke Harper Reveals Some Early Beef With Erick Rowan In WWE

Luke Harper and Erick Rowan didn’t always get along with one another.

The pair began working together in WWE as members of The Wyatt Family. Harper and Rowan even had a run with the NXT Tag Team Titles before being called up. The faction debuted back in 2013 by attacking Kane on an episode of Monday Night RAW.

Now, several years later, Wyatt is a former WWE World Champion who currently teams with Matt Hardy on RAW. Harper and Rowan are dominating SmackDown Live’s Tag Team division as the brand’s champions.

Harper recently joined Edge and Christian’s podcast, E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness, to discuss his professional wrestling career. While discussing his early days in WWE as a member of the Wyatt Family, Luke Harper reveals some early beef with Erick Rowan.

We Hated Each Other

It turns out that Harper and Rowan actually hated one another when they initially began working together. Harper revealed that they were forced to room together and it wasn’t the most pleasant of experiences.

Now, of course, they’ve made things work and are successful because of it:

“When we first started, me and Rowan hated each other. I don’t know what it was. We just didn’t get along. We were forced to room together. He’s taller than me.

“If you look at some of my old pictures, I clearly tried to put weight on and it didn’t work well. He’s a f*cking giant and he snores. So, I didn’t sleep a lot. We just didn’t get along.

“Slowly came the realization of, ‘Hey man, we are stuck together. Are we gonna fight against it or are we just gonna do it?’ It took me a long time to realize that; but, when I did, we made it work way better”

Luke Harper: I’m Just Trying To Not Get Released

Luke Harper was a guest recently on Edge and Christian’s podcast. Edge mentioned that Harper can play many different roles in WWE, including wrestling in main events. Harper mentioned he just tries to make whatever he is given the best it can be.

“I’ve tried to make it a thing where somebody in WWE wants me or needs me there,” Harper said. “If I do my job well then that becomes a thing and I just try to make it a reality, I guess. I’m just trying to not get released, you know?”

Luke Harper Compares Sanity to the Wyatt Family

Harper continued to talk about the Smackdown tag-team division. The Usos were mentioned specifically as a team who have tweaked their characters and taken their game to a new level.

Edge would later talk about how the Bludgeon Brothers are a tweaked version of the previous version of their team.

“Every team has its own thing going,” Harper said of the Smackdown tag division.  “Nobody’s much alike at all… except Sanity is kind of like the Wyatt Family but we’ll just keep that to ourselves.”

After making the joke, Harper would continue to say he has nothing against the faction. He mentioned he worked with Eric Young on the indies.

“I worked with Eric on the indies a couple times and had some of my best matches,” he said. “For him to come back around now in 2018, it’s exciting for me to think about that too.”

Luke Harper On Not Being A Part Of The Wyatt Family

One half of SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The Bludgeon Brothers, Luke Harper, recently took to Twitter to comment on no longer being a part of The Wyatt Family. Harper got his start in WWE alongside Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan in the faction.

His Tweet got responses from former Wyatt Family members Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton, as well as Tyler Breeze:

Luke Harper Explains Why He Almost Quit Wrestling Before WWE

WWE Superstar Luke Harper recently did an interview with Rochester First to talk about several professional wrestling topics. Harper first discussed his old job as a librarian while chasing his dream of becoming a professional wrestler:

“My wife told me she was pregnant and I lost my job, I was a librarian at Frederick Douglas Middle School and so I thought the world was over and they called and said, “Hey, can you come for a trial and I said, ‘No, I have a broken leg,’”

It turns out Harper was ready to walk away from professional wrestling when his wife became pregnant. Harper intended to find a real job to support his family, but that’s the same day WWE came calling:

“My wife was 8 months pregnant and I was just coming back from Japan and I said, ‘Honey, I’m done, this is it, I’m just going to go get another real job and we’ll make do here,’ and that’s the day (WWE called saying), ‘Hey, can you come for a tryout?’”

Luke Harper Sends Ominous Tweet To Naomi & the Usos

One-half of the Smackdown tag-team champions, the Bludgeon Brothers, is taunting their rivals on social media. 38-year-old, Luke Harper, took time away from his normal social media routine to send a message to the Usos and Jimmy Uso’s wife, Naomi.

Normally, Harper sends out a daily Tweet similar to this:

The below screenshot of Harper’s Twitter feed shows this is usually all he does on Twitter:

Screenshot 2018 04 19 12.44.30

Today, however, Harper decided to use his Twitter account to send a message to Naomi and the Usos. Harper commented on the real-life relationship between the couple:

Following Smackdown this week, Harper wished the couple a good evening as well. Additionally, he addressed Naomi by her abbreviated real name:

It appears as though the storyline between the Bludgeon Brothers and the Usos will involve some real-life elements, including the real-life relationship between Jimmy Uso and Naomi. It’s unlikely the Bludgeon Brothers show up on Total Divas, however. The angle seems to be leading to a long-awaited Usos babyface turn as well.

WWE cameras caught Naomi and the Usos backstage on Tuesday:

the Bludgeon Brothers vs. the Usos and Smackdown’s Tag-Team Division

The Smackdown tag-team division is arguably the deeper of the two brands at the moment. With Anderson & Gallows and the Bar joining Smackdown from Raw, it creates a log-jam at the top of the division.

With the Usos and the Bludgeon Brothers feuding over the titles, that leaves the New Day, the Bar, and Anderson & Gallows all vying to be declared the next challengers. Sanity has also been called up to Smackdown as well. Eric Young, Killian Dain, and Alexander Wolfe could be inserted into the tag division too.

In the Superstar Shakeup, Smackdown gained two former tag-team championship winning teams and gave up the Ascension and Breezeango. Not a bad deal for Shane McMahon and Paige!

The Bludgeon Brothers are scheduled to defend their newly won Smackdown tag-team championships against the Usos. The match will take place at the Greatest Royal Rumble on April 27th, 2018 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It will be their first televised title defense since winning the belts at WrestleMania 34.

WWE Announces Injury To Xavier Woods From Fastlane (VIDEO)

As seen at Sunday night’s WWE Fastlane pay-per-view, the title match between The New Day and SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos ended in a no contest after The Bludgeon Brothers, Harper and Rowan, came to ringside and destroyed both teams.

WWE noted after the show that Woods was suffering from a thoracic spine injury, contusions to the spine, and that he was being taken to a local hospital to be checked out. This is likely a storyline injury but Woods was stretchered away from ringside while the others were helped to the back by officials.

It appears Rowan and Harper are up for some sort of title match at WrestleMania 34, perhaps a Triple Threat with The New Day and The Usos or a Fatal 4 Way with another blue brand tag team.

WWE announced Woods suffered an injury to his thoracic spine due to The Bludgeon Brothers’ attack.

“Our preliminary diagnosis is multiple thoracic contusions,” explained WWE medical personnel of Woods’ injury. “We’re currently in the process of having him evaluated with X-rays and possibly an MRI for any further damage, such as ruptured discs or fractures of the thoracic spine.”

WWE stated that we should have an update on Woods’ condition on Monday.

Luke Harper: ‘I’m Exactly Where I Want to be’

Luke Harper feels he’s in the perfect spot at this stage in his WWE career.

When SmackDown Live underwent a change in 2016, Harper played a role in a key storyline. He was always suspicious of Randy Orton’s plan to break up the Wyatt Family. Eventually Bray turned on Harper and Orton burned down the Wyatt Family Compound.

Harper showed his abilities in the ring and fans were starting to get behind him. Then something happened. Harper stopped appearing on shows. It wasn’t until recently that Harper was put in a consistent role as one half of the Bludgeon Brothers with Erick Rowan.

Sports Illustrated recently sat down with Harper, who told them that he’s satisfied with how things are playing out:

“I’m exactly where I want to be. There came a time where I wasn’t so sure about that, but I know now this is where I want to be. The Bludgeon Brothers are the Bludgeon Brothers. We don’t care if people think we look like Kane. We are impactful and get the job done.”

For weeks the Bludgeon Brothers have been seen interrupting segments and blasting through enhancement talents. WWE has been teasing a potential feud between the team and the Usos after Fastlane.

Luke Harper Guest Stars on “Damnation” TV Series

Luke Harper (Jon Huber) appeared last night on USA Network’s “Damnation”.

The role was written specifically for Harper:

Harper also appeared in 2017’s “Mohawk” as Lachlan Allsopp. Mohawk is also a period piece set back in 1812.

Luke Harper on Damnation

That Harper had a role specifically written for him by a TV Series airing on the USA Network can only be good for his standing in WWE. This is especially the case since WWE’s contract with the USA Network comes up for renewal in 2019.

Big E posted the following:

Harper promoted his guest appearance in the only way he knows how:

The Bludgeon Brothers are scheduled to face Breezeango Sunday at Clash of Champions.

WWE Superstar Shocks UpUpDownDown Madden Tournament

The penultimate match in Round 1 of the 2017 NFL Madden 18 Tournament included a new face to UpUpDownDown, and Seth Rollins should be worried.

Jimmy Uso reached the quarter final stage last year against AJ Styles which resulted in an entertaining match.  The highlights of that game are:

  1. The amount of censorship required in the final minutes to keep Jimmy Uso family friendly.
  2. AJ Styles’ delight in securing outrageous interceptions.

The Prince of Phenomenal made his way into the SmackDown Live semi finals, to face Jack Swagger, with a 24-17 win over UCE.

Unfortunately for UCE, he didn’t have much luck in this year’s tournament either as he came up against a surprising adversary.  Out of all the superstars, Luke Harper does not spring to mind as someone who would be video game savvy, yet he proved any doubters wrong.

While his in-ring persona suggests that he may not be familiar with electricity, let alone Xbox One or PS4, he is more than capable of taking the challenge to Seth Rollins in the 2017 tournament.  A mixture of good football knowledge and understanding of how to convert that knowledge onto the virtual pitch is exactly what made Seth Rollins The Champ.  However, Luke Harper has proven that he has all those skills too.

What’s even better about this video is the amount of fun that each superstar had; it doesn’t even seem like Harper has missed a beat or bean away at all from SmackDown Live.

Highlight of the match:

Jimmy Uso repeatedly trying to rip his shirt and off and failing.
