Marty Scurll Spotted Training with WWE Superstars

Marty Scurll was recently spotted training with several WWE stars.

Recently, WWE star Matt Riddle took to Instagram to post a photograph of himself, along with several other WWE stars, following a workout. It appears the group were doing some jiu-jitsu training with one another.

Those stars included Shinsuke Nakamura, Karrion Kross, Cameron Grimes, and more. However, one more interesting name was training with the group. That being former Ring Of Honor (ROH) and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star Marty Scurll.

Check it out here below:

Scurll has slowly been making his way back into the professional wrestling fold. He was essentially blackballed from the industry after allegations surfaced in 2020 that Scurll slept with a 16-year-old girl in the UK.

Since, Scurll has only appeared sporadically in professional wrestling, with promoters such as ex-WWE star Santino Marella facing blowback online for booking Scurll for shows.

Scurll himself has since responded the allegations against him with the following statement.

“I am aware that a young woman has bravely come forward with her account of sexual abuse by some members of the wrestling community in the UK 5 years ago, a community I was a part of.

“Although I truly believe that our encounter that evening was consensual, and the fact that the encounter was legal; is almost not the point. I understand that she now views our encounter as part of a bigger problem within the wrestling community.

“What concerns me at this moment is that from what I have been reading, she is a fan of wrestling and was made to feel unsafe within that community. This is not acceptable. I also understand that people have been attacking her on social media, and I implore you to please stop. She has a right to her voice and it is our responsibility to listen.”

Santino Marella Seemingly Reacts To Marty Scurll Booking Backlash

Santino Marella has seemingly responded to the criticism he has received for booking Marty Scurll.

Marella announced that he booked Scurll for his upcoming Battle Arts promotion show in Toronto on August 13.

The announcement came via a now deleted Tweet on Marella’s Twitter account. Scurll himself also appeared in the video Marella posted, saying fans will see a side of “The Villain” that they’ve never seen before.

The reason for the backlash over the booking comes from accusations made against Scurll back in 2020. He’s accused of sleeping with a 16-year-old girl in the UK.

After the accusations, Scurll was essentially black balled from professional wrestling, only appearing sporadically at events, finding it difficult to get bookings.

However, in the wake of the criticism Marella has received from fans online for booking Scurll, he responded momentarily with a Tweet that read, “Everyone deserves a second chance to redeem themselves.”

Santino Marella quickly deleted the Tweet. It remains unclear whether or not he will keep Scurll booked in the wake of the blowback.

Scurll himself has since responded to the accusations with the following statement.

I also understand that people have been attacking her on social media, and I implore you to please stop. She has a right to her voice and it is our responsibility to listen.”

Santino Marella Receives Blowblack For Booking Marty Scurll

Santino Marella is receiving quite a bit of blowback for booking Marty Scurll for his upcoming show.

Marella, real name Anthony Carelli, announced on Twitter that he’s booking Marty Scurll for his upcoming Battle Arts promotion show in Toronto. The announcement also included a video from Scurll saying that fans will see a side of “The Villain” that they’ve never seen before.

He concluded by saying that “sh*t gets real” on August 13. Check out the announcement here below.

Carelli is receiving quite a bit of blowback for booking Scurll for the show given the accusations made against him back in 2020. He’s accused of having slept with a 16-year-old girl in the UK.

As a result, Scurll has found it difficult to get booked for wrestling shows, slowly making his return to action over the years. He responded to the accusations with the following statement.

Marty Scurll Announced For Wrestling Return Next Month

‘The Villain’ Marty Scurll has been announced for making his wrestling return for indie promotion CWA for a show in San Juan, Puerto Rico next month.

The promotion posted a teaser promoting the former ROH star’s appearance on their Instagram channel. It confirmed that the wrestling star will be a part of their Halloween Fan Fest on Saturday, October 23.

Scurll has been away from wrestling for over a year after being named in the speaking out movement last year. He has not competed in a match since March 2020.

Prior to the controversy, the former Bullet Club member was set to become the head booker for ROH after re-signing with the promotion back in January 2020.

However, these plans were scrapped and Marty Scurll went on a hiatus from pro wrestling after being accused. Ring Of Honor then announced that the two parties have parted ways in January this year.

The former ROH TV champion also shot a storyline for NJPW Strong during a taping in January. Though his segments never aired after backlash from fans.

There is no word yet on what Marty Scurll will be doing at the upcoming show. It would be interesting to see how fans react to his return.

Marty Scurll Teased For XPW Reboot Show

When the 2nd half of Dark Side of the Ring’s season 3 airs later this year, one episode will focus on XPW. Xtreme Pro Wrestling was a promotion run by Rob Black (Rob Zicari) from 1999 until 2003.

Black recently announced plans to reboot the promotion with a tournament on November 7th, 2021. In a video released by Black yesterday, Marty Scurll was teased as the first entrant in the tournament. It is not clear if Scurll will have anything at all to do with the show, however.

No venue or broadcast deal has been announced for the show.

UPDATE:

Others have reached out as well to say that Marty Scurll will not be on the show. Rob Black has continued to Tweet on the matter:

XPW – Dark Side of the Ring

It is possible Black is hoping to build on the publicity his former promotion will gain from the Dark Side of the Ring episode scheduled to air later this year. The following topics will air in the second half of season 3:

  • The WWE Steroid Trials
  • FMW
  • Luna Vachon
  • WWE’s Plane Ride from Hell
  • XPW
  • Johnny K-9 (Bruiser Bedlam)
  • Chris Kanyon

The other promotion scheduled to be featured in the second half of season 3, FMW, has also announced a reboot. Atsushi Onita has announced FMWE will run a show later this month.

“The meaning of E is explosion,” Onita said. “It is an explosion. It is an organization specializing in hardcore that is said in the world. There is a request to see an electric current blast in the United States, and we are doing an electric current blast all over the world.”

NJPW Talents ‘Not Happy’ That Marty Scurll Was Backstage at Strong Tapings

As we reported earlier today, Marty Scrull will not be part of New Japan going forward as originally expected. News broke last week that Marty Scurll had filmed content that would be shown on an upcoming episode of New Japan Strong. As it turns out, NJPW has no plans to air the footage or have Scurll back in the company anytime soon.

The news was first reported by the Super J-Cast podcast and has also been confirmed by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. In an update to the news, Fightful Select have confirmed that talent backstage were not informed of Scurll’s involvement before he turned up to the tapings.

Scurll is believed to have filmed an angle with NJPW’s Rocky Romero at the promotion’s Los Angeles Dojo. Upon news of this leaking, there was a negative response amongst fans due to accusations against Scurll as part of the #SpeakingOut movement.

Fightful noted that there were several people who worked the tapings that were not happy with the situation. These talents stated that would have been made aware of Scrull’s involvement ahead of time? They would have made it clear to New Japan officials that they didn’t want to work at the tapings.

It was also confirmed by Fightful that “everything at the actual tapings was said to have been fine, and without incident.”

Marty Scurll’s New Japan Strong Appearance Scrapped

News broke last week that Marty Scurll had filmed content that would be shown on an upcoming episode of New Japan Strong. As it turns out, NJPW has no plans to air the footage or have Scurll back in the company anytime soon.

The news was first reported by the Super J-Cast podcast and has also been reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Scurll is believed to have filmed an angle with NJPW’s Rocky Romero at the promotion’s Los Angeles Dojo. Upon news of this leaking, there was a negative response amongst fans due to accusations against Scurll as part of the #SpeakingOut movement.

Last week, Scurll filming content for NJPW in Los Angeles was addressed on Wrestling Observer Radio.

“Marty Scurll worked the New Japan tapings a couple of weeks ago in California,” said Dave Meltzer.

“I’m not at all surprised at Marty Scurll working for New Japan, that’s just how they do things and in Japan, it’s not going to be an issue. In the United States, it’s going to be an issue to a lot of fans. There are people who want him black-balled for life.”

Scurll is a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Update On Marty Scurll Returning To NJPW

Marty Scurll was released from Ring of Honor in early January. After having signed the largest contract in company history, Scurll was let go following a months-long investigation by ROH into accusations made against him as part of the #SpeakingOut movement. It appears Scurll has landed back with NJPW, however.

Multiple reports have come out recently that Scurll worked a recent set of New Japan Strong tapings at the company’s Los Angeles Dojo. This was addressed recently on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Scurll’s segments on the show have yet to air. New Japan Strong airs Friday nights beginning at 10 PM est. on New Japan World. This week’s show will be headlined by KENTA challenging Jon Moxley for the IWGP United States Championship.

The 32-year-old Scurll is a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion in NJPW. He also once held the NEVER 6-Man tag-titles along with the Young Bucks. In ROH, he’s a former TV Champion and 6-Man tag champ along with Brody King and PCO.

Update On Marty Scurll Potentially Signing With WWE or NJPW

Marty Scurll is no longer with Ring of Honor. The company announced Monday night that the two parties have decided to end their working relationship.

Marty Scurll was accused of sexual assault last year during the #SpeakingOut movement. A young woman says that he sexually abused her when she was 16 years old and intoxicated. He made public statements addressing the situation:

“Although I truly believe that our encounter that evening was consensual, and the fact that the encounter was legal; is almost not the point. I understand that she now views our encounter as part of a bigger problem within the wrestling community.”

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed Marty Scurll becoming a free agent and his options for future employment.

“I don’t anticipate AEW taking him,” Meltzer said. “I mean, it’s possible, obviously he was friends with all those guys. For AEW, it would be difficult just because there’s a lot of heat that anyone is going to get for hiring him. WWE does not feel that heat, they’re going to do what they are going to do.”

Marty Scurll’s Options

Dave Meltzer believes WWE and NJPW would be more willing than AEW and ROH to overlook Marty Scurll’s baggage.

“I would suspect that Marty can go to New Japan Pro Wrestling right now and get a job there. Except for the fact that he couldn’t right now because of the pandemic and their economic situation. If it was normal, he could go to New Japan, I have no doubt. It wouldn’t shock me (if he goes to) WWE. AEW I think would be tougher.”

Prior to working for ROH, Marty Scurll had a stint with the National Wrestling Alliance in 2019. He was involved in a program with NWA World Champion Nick Aldis. The NWA is looking to start back up this year and Scrull would be a recognizable name to bring in.

There is no question that Scurll is one of the most talented free agents in all of professional wrestling. It remains to be seen if his scandal will blow over and his reputation can be rehabilitated.

Marty Scurll Departs From Ring Of Honor

Marty Scurll is no longer under contract with Ring of Honor.

On Monday evening, ROH announced on social media that the two sides have mutually decided to end their working relationship:

scurll statement

Marty Scurll In Ring of Honor

Marty Scurll joined Ring of Honor in 2016. He signed a new contract in January 2020. At the time, “The Villain” was a hot commodity. He was rumored to be joining either WWE or AEW.

The latest Ring of Honor contract called for him to take over as Ring of Honor’s head of creative. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. Just as he was supposed to begin expanding his duties behind the scenes, the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Ring of Honor soon suspended live events.

Marty Scurll was later the subject of lurid allegations as part of the #SpeakingOut movement. It was alleged by a young woman that Marty Scurll took advantage of her while she was drunk and underaged. Scurll addressed the situation publicly and soon made his Twitter account private.

Marty Scurll was removed from the ROH website roster in October 2020. Since the promotion resumed holding events, he had not been at any ROH TV tapings or PPVs nor had he been involved in any behind the scenes responsibilities.

We’ll provide an update if Scrull comments on his departure from ROH.

Update On ROH’s Return To Live Events

Ring of Honor hasn’t held a live event since February. The promotion was forced to cancel events just before the planned 18th Anniversary show in March. It is believed that the event was to be the first where Marty Scurll’s planned direction for the promotion was set to take shape.

According to comments Joe Koff made to the Wrestling Observer, the promotion hopes to film shows next month.

“Nothing has been confirmed yet, but we are trying to develop what we believe would be safe production in July. Obviously, anything that does get finalized would come with an asterisk as we monitor the daily progressions of the pandemic,” Koff is quoted as having said.

Brodie King vs Tyler Bateman was filmed at the NJPW LA Dojo recently as well. That match could air on future ROH programming.

Marty Scurll On ROH Plans Before Pandemic

On ROH’s official podcast, Marty Scurll stated that the 18th Anniversary show and tapings were to be the first step in the direction he was to take the promotion.

“Even though I’ve sort of been hands-on with the show since January, I felt like these were really my first shows that I had full control of.”

“I put so many hours of time and thought into these shows.”

Marty Scurll Thinks Possible ROH-AEW Partnership Is “Just Matter Of Timing”

Marty Scurll has sounded off on whether he thinks a partnership between ROH and AEW is possible.

Scurll, who is the booker of ROH, did so on the inaugural ROHStrong podcast. This is where he wouldn’t rule out a working relationship. In fact, he thinks it’s quite possible but comes down to timing.

“Both parties are definitely willing to work with each other. It’s just a matter of timing, I guess,” he said. “I’m not saying anything will happen, I’m just saying I wouldn’t rule it out. There’s no reason why we wouldn’t. It’s just that the timing needs to be correct and it needs to be a fitting situation for us to work together. I personally would like to see it happen at some point.”

Scurll also stated he’s on good terms with AEW President and CEO Tony Khan.

There are two reasons as to why the two sides haven’t worked together thus far. First up is due to the departures of talents such as The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, Hangman Page, and SoCal Uncensored from ROH as they joined AEW (All Elite Wrestling).

Also, Ring of Honor has a working relationship with NJPW, which doesn’t have a working relationship with AEW as some stars left the promotion to join AEW full-time.

It should be noted that talent such as Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho do work for NJPW despite being under contract with AEW.

Marty Scurll Talks ROH’s Decision To Cancel Shows

Marty Scurll Talks ROH’s Decision To Cancel Shows

Marty Scurll was the first guest on the new ROH Strong podcast. During the conversation, Scurll talked about the company’s decision to cancel shows and mentioned that ROH has filmed a handful of empty arena matches.

ROH was forced to cancel its planned 18th Anniversary PPV on March 13th and television taping scheduled for the next night. The company then announced on March 17th that they were canceling all shows up to May 31st.

“It broke my heart but I was like ‘we can’t run these shows,'” Scurll said on the show. “This is way bigger than pro-wrestling, like, that would be so irresponsible for us to run a wrestling show.”

Scurll continued to talk about how the predicament was particularly upsetting for him as he is just starting in his new position with the company.

“No one was more heartbroken then myself,” Scurll continued. “Even though I’ve sort of been hands-on with the show since January, I felt like these were really my first shows that I had full control of.”

“I put so many hours of time and thought into these shows.”

Marty Scurll On Canceled ROH Shows

Scurll continued to say he had a lot planned for the weekend.

“I had a lot of surprises in store for that weekend, a lot of new and exciting things,” he continued. “I wanted so badly for those shows to happen but ultimately, it wasn’t worth putting people’s lives at risk.”

He continued to say that ROH did film a few empty arena matches in Vegas. The matches involved talent who had already arrived in Vegas before the shows were canceled.

“We discussed about doing empty arena shows and everything else. We actually did film a handful of matches with no fans with some of the talent that was there just to see how it would look and if we can make something from it,” he continued. Ultimately, Scurll says the decision was made to save the “Past vs Present” concept until a time when they can do it right.

Marty Scurll Discusses His Decision To Stay With ROH Instead Of Joining AEW

Marty Scurll has opened up staying with ROH (Ring of Honor) and his new responsibilities in the promotion.

He did so when he recently did an interview with WrestleTalk’s Louis Dangoor to discuss a wide range of topics.

Many fans expected Scurll to wind up in AEW after a short run with the NWA but that wasn’t the case. This is something that Scurll talked about.

He noted that AEW was the expected destination for him because of his friendship with The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson). He stated that they are his best friends and he loves them as well as what they’re doing.

“When it came to my decision though, I, like them, had my own vision, my own dreams, and the opportunity to create a promotion in my own vision was something I always wanted and couldn’t turn down. I’ve been wrestling for a long time and it was time to do something new and set a new challenge for myself. ROH have always been amazing to me, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be more involved.”

Scurll talked about how ROH has trust in him and it really gives him the chance to be creative. This is something that he has enjoyed the most.

He stated that he has great relationships with AEW President Tony Khan, Cody Rhodes, and Kenny Omega.

Scurll added that it’s cool that they’re all doing their own thing by making a splash in the wrestling world.

Young Bucks Discuss Marty Scurll Staying With ROH

The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) recently did an interview with ComicBook.com where they spoke about Marty Scurll’s decision to stay with Ring of Honor instead of joining AEW.

Many fans expected Scurll to wind up in All Elite Wrestling after a short run with the NWA but that wasn’t the case.

Nick started things off by noting that they had a feeling Marty was going to stay with ROH three months before the news came out.

“We were kind of feeling him out for a while now and he always was very vague with us, anytime we would bring up storylines and stuff. So, we pretty much got the hint three months ago or so. And we realized, ‘Okay, he’s staying put.’ Good for him, though. And that he knows how we feel, it’s a business.

Yeah, it would’ve been great to have him with us because we’re good friends, but he got a great deal out of it and he seems to be very happy. He’s definitely going to try to paint his path on his own and more respect to him for doing that. We’re all cool though.”

Matt gave his take by noting that Marty got a great offer and he thinks Scurll wanted to be more than just a wrestler and he got an opportunity to do that. He noted that Marty is a clever guy and he’s very talented.

Matt said that he loves him and hopes nothing but the best for him. Matt hopes that Marty can make the place he’s working a better place because he wants wrestling everywhere to succeed because as long as the wrestlers are being taken care of and there are more opportunities for wrestlers in order to support their families.

Matt noted that he thinks the wrestling world needs Ring of Honor to do well.

“I think Marty, if you can pinpoint any person right now that can help them, it’s him. Good on them, and I’m happy for Marty.”

Young Bucks “Killing the Business” Memoir Announced

Tama Tonga On ROH Being In A “Transitional Phase,” Marty Scurll’s New Role

Bullet Club’s Tama Tonga has shared his thoughts on Ring of Honor’s (ROH) current “transitional phase.” Tonga, who is one half of the current IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions alongside Tonga Loa, spoke about ROH and their new booker, Marty Scurll, during an interview with Wrestling Inc. Daily.

“ROH went through some changes in the past year and that happens with every company. They’re just in a transitional stage. I can’t knock them for that as it happens with every company,” Tonga said. “They have great talent and they were fun to work with. They’re hard-working guys and they have a good crew. If they stick with the guns they have, I think they’re gonna have a nice period out of the transitional period they just came out of.”

Tama Tonga Praises Marty Scurll

Turning his attention to his former Bullet Club stablemate, Marty Scurll, Tonga praised Scurll’s business skills. He noted how Scurll has a “good mind for wrestling.”

“You can expect new ideas and a new style. Change is always good for anything and I think people will see this,” he said. “I think they just did an event called Free Enterprise and I’ve heard good things. From the looks of things, they look promising so it’s a good start.”

Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa are scheduled to defend their IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships against Kota Ibushi and Hiroshi Tanahashi at New Japan Road. The event takes place on February 21st from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

Flip Gordon Talks About Marty Scurll’s New ROH Responsibilities

Ring of Honor star Flip Gordon has opened up about Marty Scurll’s increased responsibilities with the promotion. Scurll, who is the leader of Villain Enterprises, recently signed a new contract with ROH which saw him become co-booker alongside Delirious.

Speaking with Wrestling Inc. Daily, Gordon addressed Scurll’s new role, praising the business acumen that saw him become a part of ROH’s booking team.

“Marty is a very good businessman and I think whatever position he’s put in, he’s gonna thrive. He’s one of the most creative people I’ve ever met and he’s gonna do wonders. Give him a chance and I think you’re gonna be very proud of him,” said Gordon. “Look what he’s done with Villain Enterprises – that’s just on a microlevel. Now he’s got a whole company.”

Flip Gordon On Villain Enterprises Recent Record

Reflecting on his position with Villain Enterprises as their resident “Mercenary,” Gordon confessed that he’s lucky to be a part of the stable, especially as he’s been fired once before.

“I’m surprised I didn’t get fired for losing to Nick [Aldis] this past weekend,” said Gordon. “Marty’s not happy. Since the new year we haven’t been doing that hot. We haven’t won very many matches, I mean I’ve won a few. He’s not in the best of moods. I don’t know if he’s gonna wanna to add a member now.”

Despite their lack of victories, the stable can boast one major win: PCO becoming the new ROH World Champion. The 52-year-old defeated Rush for the title back at ROH’s Final Battle event in December.

Addressing the victory for PCO and, subsequently, Villain Enterprises, Flip Gordon said “I think it’s great he’s world champion and it’s his time. It was a long road to the top of that mountain and he absolutely deserves it. He’s a legend and by him being World Champion, Villain Enterprises is World Champion.”

Nick Aldis Reveals Possible Stipulation For Title Match Against Marty Scurll

Last night on NWA Powerrr, Nick Aldis unveiled some unique potential stipulations for another title match against Marty Scurll. Aldis defeated Scurll and successfully defended the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at the Crockett Cup last year but Scurll is lobbying for another crack at the belt.

On Powerrr, Aldis said that he is willing to defend the title against Scurll again at this year’s Crockett Cup event but only under one condition. That condition is if Scurll doesn’t defeat Aldis for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, Scurll will refund every single person who attended the show the cost of their ticket.

The NWA has pinned a video of Aldis laying out the terms to the top of their Twitter page:

Aldis also made a point of mentioning that the exact date and venue for the Crockett Cup have yet to be announced. He invited cities to bid for the event. The show is planned for April.

Nick Aldis On Joining The NWA

Aldis sat down for an interview with Chris Van Vliet recently and discussed what led to him joining the NWA.

“Dave (Lagana) called me and just kind of said ‘what’s going on with you? What are you doing?’ Cause I mean I had just fallen off the face of the Earth in wrestling,” Aldis said. “Everyone just assumed that I would go to WWE after I finished up with TNA, that didn’t happen.”

Backstage Update On Marty Scurll’s Deal With ROH

Marty Scurll agreed to a new contract with Ring of Honor this week. The deal is not only the most lucrative in the nearly 20-year history of the promotion, but it also puts Scurll on the ROH creative team. According to a recent update from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Delirious and Scurll will be sharing booking duties but Scurll will likely be the lead between the two co-bookers.

“(Scurll) will work in creative as a co-booker with Hunter Johnston (Delirious) and basically as things are working out will be the lead,” wrote Dave Meltzer. The report would continue to say that Delirious didn’t object to any of Scurll’s booking ideas this weekend.

“The plan right now is for Scurll to determine the direction and for Johnston (Delirious) to run the television shows using Scurll’s ideas and adding in details and formatting it for television,” Meltzer continued. The report would continue to state that Scurll’s deal with ROH allows him to work for other promotions as well with the possible exclusions of WWE and AEW, though he may be permitted to appear for AEW, this is not yet clear.

Scurll is being advertised for the next set of NWA Powerrr tapings scheduled for January 26th in Atlanta.

Delirious is said to be happy about the deal, as it takes a lot of the pressure and anxiety away from his role. He has been on the ROH booking team since 2010 and head booker since 2012.

Marty Scurll As The Leader Of The Dark Order?

Scurll was reportedly set to be the revealed leader of the Dark Order stable in AEW as well. There was said to have been an idea that Scurll would debut as the leader of the stable on the 12/18 edition of Dynamite but ROH then made Scurll a substantial offer to stay with them.

Matt Hardy’s name has also been linked to the role of the leader of the Dark Order stable.

Bully Ray Comments On Marty Scurll’s New Position With ROH Creative

Wrestling legend and Busted Open Radio co-host Bully Ray recently commented on Marty Scurll signing a new deal with Ring of Honor that will see him join the company’s creative team in a leading role.

Marty Scurll’s future was a hot topic of conversation for the past several months. Some hoped he would stay with Ring of Honor, while others expected he would jump to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) or even WWE/NXT.

He wound up staying for big money and a role as one of ROH’s head bookers. Bully Ray thinks it was a big score to keep Scurll, but he would not have given him so much power behind the scenes.

Bully Ray on Marty Scurll’s New ROH Deal

“I’m happy for Ring of Honor that Marty staying I think it’s a good move for both,” Bully began. “Marty is without a doubt one of those guys, he’s become a massive star in Ring of Honor. Even going beyond ROH, doing some stuff with the NWA.

Bully Ray then also commented on how he felt Scurll was always the the biggest star in the Bullet Club faction.

“I’ve always said that Marty was the biggest star in the Bullet Club while the BC was part of ROH. Because his stock went up more than anybody else’s. His merchandise, which through the roof, and he actually did the same numbers if not better numbers across the board with like meet and greets and merchandise as as Cody and the [Young] Bucks. So Marty is definitely the babyface of the company.”

“Marty Scurll being a top guy in the company has to worry about the stuff that he’s doing.”

Bully was quick to mention that he does have reservations with a top star in the company having so much control behind the scenes.

“As far as being the booker is concerned; being a booker is a very very difficult job. Even on its own, because you’re worrying about creative or the directions of the matches of an entire company. Marty being a top guy in the company has to worry about the stuff that he’s doing, and now has to be patient and a good listener to all of the other talent in the company.”

“It’s always good to have different ideas”

He elaborated further, saying “If he is the head booker all the talent is going to want to talk to you about their push, about their characters, about their matches. So when Marty is at TV he has to make them see himself available to them. Just like Hunter did as the head of of ROH’s creative (Hunter Johnson, also known as Delirious). Hunter is still a part of the process so Marty and Hunter will be working together. But if the final decision goes to Marty that’s okay, because he has a different opinion, he might have a different look at the company. It’s always good to have different ideas but he’s going to have to make himself available to everybody.”

“I would have made Marty Scurll my ROH Champion”

Ray also outright stated that he would not have given the ‘pencil’ to Marty if he had the choice. “If it was up to me, I would not have made him head booker. I would have made him a part of the creative process with Hunter working side by side. I would have made Marty Scurll my ROH Champion.”

Bully also pointed out that he is definitely not involved in the official creative process. “I’m not a booker at ROH, I’m not the match maker at ROH. I’m a veteran who helps people when they ask for it behind the scenes.”

Marty Scurll Re-Signs With ROH, Joins Creative Team

”The Villain’ Marty Scurll has signed a new contract with ROH.

Scurll’s original deal with the company expired back in November last year and he has been ‘testing the waters’ ever since by working for various promotions and weighing his options.

While many believed that Marty Scurll was most likely to sign with AEW once his contract expired, none of the AEW officials had made any confident comments about the same.

It was then reported that Ring Of Honor has offered the former Champion a very good deal with significant money. The former Being The Elite star was offered ‘WWE main roster money’ for working around 40 dates per year with ROH.

What’s interesting to note here is that according to the reports, Marty has not only signed as a performer but he will also be joining the booking team of the company.

It was initially reported that Marty Scurll will be taking on the role of lead booker but Pro Wrestling Sheet has since confirmed that he will be sharing the position with Executive Producer Hunter Johnston aka Delirious.

There is little debate about the fact that Ring of Honor lost its creative direction in 2019. Delerious will reportedly focus on producing ROH shows, while Scurll will be instrumental in strategizing the company’s “bigger picture.”

As part of his new role, Scurll will help rehabilitate the brand’s image. Part of that will involve strengthening its partnerships with New Japan Pro Wrestling and the National Wrestling Alliance. There has also been some buzz that Scurll will attempt to open a dialogue between ROH and All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

There is no word on the length of Marty’s new contract but Ring Of Honor has been signing talents for 2 years recently and it’s presumed that Scurll’s contract is also of a similar length.

Update On Marty Scurll & ROH’s Contract Negotiations

Ring of Honor is said to have tabled a substantial offer to Marty Scurll recently. According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Scurll is being offered “WWE main roster” money to work only 40 days per year with ROH.

“We had heard Scurll was being offered a better deal than the one Matt Taven signed for,” wrote Dave Meltzer. Taven is reported to have received an offer from ROH worth double what NXT wrestlers in WWE make.

“We don’t have it confirmed that he signed it,” Meltzer wrote of Scurll’s contract offer. “It’s a great deal as it’s basically WWE main roster money while only working maybe 40 dates per year for ROH and certain unique perks.”

ROH is advertising Scurll for their February 9th, 2020 free show “Free Enterprise.”

Scurll also appeared for the NWA during the tapings held after their recent PPV.

This show takes place on January 12th in Concord, N.C. at the Cabarrus Arena. The promotion will be announcing more matches for the show in the coming weeks.

Scurll’s contract with Ring of Honor recently expired, but he wrestled at their Final Battle PPV event and the television tapings the same weekend, which means that he will remain on ROH TV for the next several weeks.

To make things more interesting, he appeared at the end of the NWA Into the Fire pay-per-view where Scurll had a staredown with NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis.

The speculation is that this angle was done to set up a possible match between the two.
