Matt Hardy Speaks On Enjoying His Wrestling Career Without Rough Travel Schedule

Former WWE Superstar Matt Hardy recently spoke to The Swerve Magazine about enjoying his wrestling career now that he doesn’t have to deal with the rough travel schedule. Hardy said:

“I make my own schedule; if I want to take off, I can take off; if I want to work more, I can work more. I choose when I work, where I work, I choose who I wrestle. I pretty much get to choose everything. When you work for WWE they tell you where to go, they tell you when you work, they tell you when you’re not going to work, they tell you what to do. There is a huge part of your personal life that you leave once you sign your contract because you become their property in many ways. It is great because they put you in front of great big crowds at the shows and the television saturation is incredible, it’s global. But there is something to be said for having complete freedom, and with me just getting married and talking about having kids, I need that freedom. It helps give me a very good balance in life as far as doing things that fulfill my passion by working about places like Ring of Honor or Extreme Rising, and keeping my name out there circulating among mainstream fans and casual fans, and then also going on vacations, take family trips, doing things with my father.”

On whether or not Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania was the match of the year: “Thanks for your take. I have no dog in this hunt. There weren’t an overabundance of great matches in WWE in 2013 IMO ”

On Jeff Jarrett leaving TNA: “I’m not connected to TNA or Jarrett or to what their relationship together was or has been lately. I don’t know what his departure means to TNA. TNA has many fixable issues. I wish Jeff and his family well.”

On the importance of Steve Austin during the Attitude Era: “In the Attitude Era, it was Stone Cold who was the straw that stirred the drink. But he was surrounded by some great talents as well.”

On the possibility of Brock Lesnar vs. Batista in 2014: “If both are around with enough TV availabilities I’d say it’s possible. It would be a nice attraction.”

On if the Hardy Boys would ever return to WWE: “I’d say never say never but I’d also guess it would likely be a long shot. Sometimes long shots come through.”

  • Matt Hardy Offers His Advice For The TNA Creative Team

The following is a quote from a recent Matt Hardy interview on The RCWR Show:

On advice he has for TNA’s creative team: “”The first thing I would say to TNA is with your story telling and the personas and characters you are are telling stories for TV, be sophisticated. Make sure there’s continuity in every story you’re telling because the viewers are more intelligent in 2013 than they’ve ever been. There is so much information accessible to everyone who watches wrestling on TV. You can go online, you can Google anything. You can find out everything. So when you’re on there and you’re portraying a story of these two characters that are wrestling and ultimately it is good vs evil, you know, it is bad vs the hero and in this era of golden TV with shows like Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy, Mad Men, whatever the show is, wrestling repeats are bad which is good storytelling. You have a specific universe. Walking dead, there’s a walking dead universe where zombies live, you know but the show sets up parameters and they give you rules and guidelines and you know kinda what the extent of the cast can be, and everything makes sense. Sure viewers watching it know this is a fictional show but as long as everything makes sense, there is continuity they enjoy it. Because viewers want to be entertained, That translates totally over into the wrestling business and it’s been tied to the wrestling business for so long that it’s just been like—well it’s just wrestling. We can either throw this out or forget about this, lets drop this storyline or lets not let this guy go away, what about the fans? They’ll forget about it, they’ll forget about it. You cannot insult the wrestling fans intelligence because they are smarter now than they were then. So professional wrestling, my advice to TNA would be make your stories as strong as possible and make sure there’s continuity. Don’t insult the viewer’s intelligence.”

  • Matt Hardy Gives His Thoughts on RAW’s Final Segment

WWE RAW Results (Slammy Awards): With VIDEOS

Former WWE Superstar Matt Hardy wrote the following on Facebook about the final segment of Monday’s WWE RAW:

“I caught the final segment of ?#?RAW? tonight while doing cardio, and I had to comment on it for two reasons.

#1 – Kudos to the Seattle crowd, they were awesome and steadfast in that final segment, ruthlessly chanting & supporting Daniel Bryan. It’s a great example of how much the wrestling fans believe in Daniel Bryan and want to see him get his just deserts; which is to be treated as a legitimate top guy. But there is a positive to the unfair WWE setbacks that Bryan has experienced. Daniel has became even more sympathetic and respected by the fans, leading to them getting behind him EVEN more. For the fans that were there, and for the fans that were watching at home, remember this.. ALWAYS VOICE YOUR OPINIONS ON WHO YOU BELIEVE IN AND WANT TO SEE SUCCEED.

#2 – The last segment of WWE RAW was phenomenal in it’s totality. It serve so many purposes perfectly. Both Triple H and Cena reacted to the Daniel Bryan responses flawlessly. Orton’s promo was on the money. Cena’s promo was on the money. There was star power everywhere in the ring. The brawl at the end was exciting, leading to Stephanie getting tackled by RKO. The viewers were left with questions at the end, yet wanting to see more. That segment was WWE at it’s best. The content of those final 25 minutes of RAW sold TLC PPVs. Kudos, WWE!”

Hardy To Replace Richards At ROH Final Battle?, Richards Added To 12/14 CZW

As previously reported, new WWE developmental talent Davey Richards was pulled from his “farewell match” at the upcoming Ring Of Honor “Final Battle” event on December 14th in New York City. Richards, who was scheduled to team up with Eddie Edwards to take on the duo of Jay Lethal and Roderick Strong, was reportedly pulled due to some comments he made in a Total Wrestling Magazine interview in the United Kingdom.

Richards has since been announced as a participant in the competing Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) show on the same night in Vorhees, New Jersey. Richards will work on the “Cage of Death” show on 12/14 in an unannounced match. Also on that show will be former WWE NXT star Kassius Ohno, who is returning to his “Chris Hero” persona, as he faces CZW Heavyweight Champion Drew Gulak.

As far as the ROH “Final Battle” show is concerned, Matt Hardy recently took to his YouTube account to release a video promo he did claiming he will “help ROH out” and give the aforementioned Edwards a “farewell rub” as he offered to replace Richards and work alongside Edwards in the tag-team match against Lethal and Strong.

Former WWE Superstar Matt Hardy questioned the point behind the Michael Strahan segment on MizTV on Monday’s post-Survivor Series edition of RAW in Long Island, New York.

“Can you please explain to me what the Miz-Michael Strahan segment was supposed to accomplish on Raw? That was good? Or productive?”

Hardy spoke back-and-forth with his fans for a while and then elaborated further.

“Yes, have [Strahan] on the show, that’s smart business. But the creative behind his segment was counterproductive and confusing, in my opinion.”

“A fictional show doesn’t have to be complex. If it sets parameters, stay true to them, makes sense, keeps continuity, it works.”

Hardy concluded, “WWE’s product has to become more sophisticated in an era where TV like Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, & Sons Of Anarchy thrive. The problem is NOT the PG content. It’s the substance of the content and continuity of the product.”

  • Former WWE Superstar Has Harsh Words For Matt Hardy’s Wife, Sky/Sunny Update

Former WWE Superstar Sid Justice (aka “Psycho” Sid, aka Sid Vicious) made some harsh comments to Reby Sky on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. The former two-time WWE Champion tweeted the following to Matt Hardy’s wife in response to her claims that WWE Hall Of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch was being dishonest about her current battle with cancer: “How dare rancid c*nt @RebySky say @WWEHOFerSunny cancer isn’t real! Someone needs to shut her mouth! #TwoFace #Backstabber #Disrespectful”

The situation began when Sytch tweeted the following to Sky on Tuesday morning: “Hey, why are you saying I’m faking my cancer? Even after we made peace on Saturday! I humbled myself to make that peace, and now [I’m] hearing you’re saying I’m making up my cancer? I only WISH I was making it up. This hurts me. Don’t discredit my health.”

For the record, Sky is denying the accusation from Sytch that she made a comment about the former WWE Diva’s cancer being fake. Sky tweeted the following on Tuesday afternoon: “Sunny where is this coming from ? Never said that.” Sky continued by saying, “Ok someone needs to fill me in because my as$ just woke up from being sick in bed all day & I’m confused as f*ck.” A few minutes later, Sky wrote “@WWEHOFerSunny do you still have the tweet someone sent? Again, never said that. Thought it was all a rumor til you told me in person.” She concluded by saying, “I don’t f*ck with stuff like that. People keep up pretty closely with this BS. I think you’d have heard by now if I did?”

Sytch responded to Sky’s tweets by re-tweeting a fan that said, “It was on your ask.fm site Reby, not taking sides just you asked for the info.” Sytch replied herself by saying, “Regardless, I’m over it. I was the bigger person and made peace on Saturday. My cancer is my priority now, not twitter nonsense. I meant what I said to you on Saturday, Reby. I dont care about the past.”

Sid, however, was not so quick to forgive and forget. Sid followed up his initial tweet by saying, “@WWEHOFerSunny She did say it because I saw it. It was a few weeks back though. She’s always disrespecting people. #Rancid —-> @RebySky.” Sid concluded by tweeting, “@WWEHOFerSunny It was the truth but it is the past. Focus on the windshield and not the rear view mirror that is @RebySky though. Good luck.”

For those interested, you can follow Tammy Sytch on Twitter @WWEHOFerSunny, Reby Sky @RebySky and Sid @SychoVicious.

UPDATE: It has been brought to our attention that the aforementioned comments attributed to Sid Vicious are completely false. – As reported last night, WWE has cut ties with developmental wrestler Kassius Ohno, real name Chris Spradlin. Some main roster talent were surprised with the news, since Triple H had praised his recent WWE NXT match against Luke Harper (it airs on this week’s show).

    – WWE Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel, who often responds to fans on Twitter, continues to address criticism over his sports-entertaining abilities. During SmackDown, a fan wrote, “Yeah. CM Punk vs Broomstick would be more interesting than this match. @RealCurtisAxel have less charisma than The Broom.” He responded, “hey!!! Don’t offend broomsticks! They have feelings too.” The fan then remarked on “Mr. Charisma” responding to him, leading Axel to write back, “ur right! I have no charisma. All I do all day is stare at the wall with a blank look on my face… It’s fun!”

Earlier in the week, a fan cautioned Axel on being branded as uncharismatic again by Konnan, leading the Raw wrestler to snap back, “Who cares what that piece of crap thinks.”

Meanwhile, Konnan said his critical remarks toward Axel aren’t out of hatred. “Not hatin, just stating…#GetInformed,” he said to a fan on Twitter telling him to “stop hating.”

Matt Hardy On Reby Sky, Guys That Can Carry The Torch, Extreme Wrestling

The following are highlights from a new VOC Nation interview with former WWE Superstar Matt Hardy:

On being part of the birth of extreme wrestling: “You can go back to the first TLC ladder match with Edge and Christian or even before that to the original Omega. Myself and my brother were two of the guys who wrote the dictionary definition of extreme wrestling. Once we got to the WWE and we got the chance to have the ladder matches and the cage matches, we took them to a different level. We opened up a lot of doors for a lot of smaller guys to do more athletic, interesting, and entertaining stuff.”

On working for Tommy Dreamer at House of Hardcore: “Tommy Dreamer is a genius promoter. He (does) truly what is best for business. He makes smart business decisions and he gives the fans what they want. House of Hardcore will blow away any of the other promotions on November 9.”

On meeting and working with his wife, Reby Sky: “Reby and I first spoke online after a fan introduced us via Twitter. We’re having a blast together. We’re newly married, we travel together, and we’re big on promoting ourselves and branding ourselves as “SkyHard”. We’re enjoying being our own boss. We’re very public people. We’re both big tweeters, we love social media; we mesh very well. When it comes to oversharing, we’re both on the same page.”

On his future in wrestling: “For so long, I felt like I was in a wrestling bubble. You (always fight) to move up a level, to be on tv, to be a champ, etc. I’ve dropped all that right now, and I truly enjoy what I’m doing right now. I don’t want to be under contract. I don’t deal with politics, I don’t deal with stress, and I’m having fun again. If it leads me back to Ring of Honor, or TNA, or WWE, then so be it; but that’s not my end game.”

On the state of the wrestling business: “Nothing’s extremely red hot or extremely stable right now. WWE is set; it’s not going anywhere – it’s always going to be around. People will always complain, but they have so many corporate sponsors and nothing is going to happen with them. There is a lot of speculation about TNA right now, there are a lot of rumors going around; I don’t know anything personally. In my opinion, the better TNA does, the better it is for business. Wrestling is a little hokey nowadays compared to what it should be, but that’s because TV is so advanced. You can’t insult viewers intelligence; you can go online and find out anything.”

On guys that can carry the torch: “John Cena is the modern day Hulk Hogan in many ways. He takes someone’s finish, he kicks out, and is almost indestructible. It’s always the right guy, in the right place, at the right time. Take Stone Cold Steve Austin: He was an (average guy) in WCW, and he went to the WWE and was the right guy in the right place at the right time to become Stone Cold Steve Austin. Wrestling is still waiting for that next guy to change the direction, to change the business, and make things white hot again.”

On what will make wrestling boom again: “The content needs to be more sophisticated stories that don’t insult the viewers intelligence. The stories need to be more consistent. You can’t insult the fans intelligence. With the power of the Internet, people know everything. If you insult people’s intelligence, they’ll hit the off button on the remote and that will be it.”
