  • Mick Foley Posts Blog About CM Punk’s Decision To Sign With UFC

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley recently posted the following blog on his official Facebook page:

    A BOLD CHOICE FOR PUNK

I’ve been asked quite a bit over the past several days for my opinion on CM Punk’s decision to sign with UFC. I applaud it. While I have no idea how Punk will fare with top level MMA competitors, I do know that no one will out-train him or out-work him, and that, whether he wins or loses, succeeds or fails, he’s likely to be responsible for a few incredible PPV buy-rates – which had been a cause of concern for him since the dawning of the #WWENetwork…which, last time I checked was only $9.99 a month.

Just as importantly, #CMPunk won’t end up sitting on his couch 10 years from now, muttering the two dirtiest words in the English language: “what if”?

  • Top Ten NXT Superstars That Could Succeed On Main WWE Roster

    kevin-owens-finn-balor-adrian-neville-sami-zayn-hideo-itami-nxt-ses-1

Sometimes things work out. Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins.

Other times, things don’t. Adam Rose, Bo Dallas, Fandango.

After last week’s NXT Takeover: R Evolution special, which fans are still raving about a week later, it became crystal clear to me that WWE is developing a number of future Superstars that have the potential to lead the company into the next generation.

Today, we are going to look at ten current performers/acts in the NXT system that I feel have the best shot at achieving success on the main WWE roster. With that being said, lets jump right into the list at number ten….

    #10. The Lucha Dragons

The Lucha Dragons — Kalisto and Sin Cara, two talents that as individuals could flourish, but as a unit, make up one of the best tag-teams in WWE’s developmental system. Their ring work is solid and entertaining. Crowd pleasing. The gimmick is another story, but unfortunately, with WWE being in the middle of their PG-era, gimmicks and characters such as these two are unavoidable.

With that being said, they are what they are, and that’s a great tag-team combination. They’re the Los Matadores, only better. That’s not a knock against them, despite the fact it could be seen as one. If they remain under their current gimmick, it’s pretty much a given that they’ll never reach past mid-card, comedy-team status, but like I said, we’re going to have that one way or the other. Since that’s the case, it might as well be two guys who are as talented as these two.

I think it’s a given that these two guys will eventually make it to the main roster, and equally as predictable is the way in which they’ll be used. They’ll be two guys in a tag-team division on the main WWE roster that isn’t worth much, but for whatever it is worth, these two guys have the potential to be among the top teams in the company. While that’s not saying much, it’s saying something, and in this day and age, you pretty much have to take what you can get if you’re an aspiring wrestler.

    #9. Tyler Breeze

Much like The Lucha Dragons, I feel that Tyler Breeze is an extremely talented worker, but is unfortunately stuck in a lame-duck gimmick. On social media, I’ve read a lot of comments that makes it seem like fans are actually believers of the Tyler Breeze gimmick in the sense that it could actually go somewhere on the main roster.

I am not one of those believers.

I’m of the opinion that if Breeze jumps to the main roster and is used with the same exact character that he has now, it’s one that has a ceiling that comes with it. This type of character can only go so far. Think of talents like Fandango and Adam Rose and how they are positioned on the main roster, and you’ve got my opinion of how Breeze would be used in this type of role.

If they were to change his gimmick, he certainly has the potential to go further than this type of character would allow. He’s got the talent in the ring, he has a unique charisma about him and he’s got a great look. His promo work is decent, nothing to ride home about in my opinion, but he’s got enough tools to work with that if he was given a different type of character, it would be interesting to see how far he could take it. Maybe if they started a character-change in NXT and let it grow a bit, that would be the route to take in terms of preparing him for a call up to the big leagues.

Whether or not that ever happens is another subject entirely.

  • Mick Foley Says He Turned Down Offer To Appear On Monday’s Christmas Edition Of RAW

Mick Foley posted a new Facebook blog recently where he claims he turned down an offer to appear on next week’s Christmas-themed edition of RAW, likely as Santa Claus.

    Below is the full blog.

    “HO HO HOGAN?

    What about FO- HO-HOLEY?

I appreciate so many people jumping to my defense at the announcement of Hulk Hogan as the special guest for the Christmas episode of WWE Monday Night Raw. All of your “what about St Mick” and “Foley is Santa” comments are much appreciated.

But the truth is, I was asked by WWE if I would like to travel to Minneapolis for Raw, but had to turn the opportunity down, due to a prior commitment. I’ll miss it. I’ll watch, and probably wish I was there. But as important as appearing on Christmas Raw is to me, honoring a commitment means just a little bit more.

I have really enjoyed being part of the holiday season in my own small way in WWE, and hope to be part of the Christmas episode in 2016.

So don’t hold it against the Hulkster or WWE, I wasn’t forgotten or disrespected in any way. Just previously engaged.”

  • Mick Foley Blog: 3 Reasons Why I Should Not Be The New WWE GM

The following is the latest Facebook blog from WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley:

3 REASONS WHY I SHOULD NOT BE THE NEW WWE GM

With the huge win by Team Cena over the #Authority at last night’s #SurvivorSeries, we can certainly expect a seismic shift in the balance of power in #WWE – perhaps as early as tonight’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw. But while my appearance on Raw a few weeks ago emboldened me, and made me think there might be something I could contribute with a more regular on-air role, I believe WWE has some very good reasons to go with a different candidate.

Here are three perfectly acceptable reasons to look elsewhere when searching for a new GM.

    1) Head injuries – While I will forever be grateful to WWE for removing me from an environment where I am likely to suffer from further concussions, my short-term memory is still a problem. A GM has to have a grasp on not only what they need to say – but on what everyone else in the segment might be saying too. Although things are going better for me, I’m not sure I’m there yet.

    2) Limpin’ aint easy – I have considerable trouble walking…and it’s not always easy to watch. For a show that is supposed to take viewers minds off their own problems, watching me hobble slowly to the ring could be a downer…and a reminder of the price to be paid when doing what we do.

    3) A fashion nightmare – Most people reading will probably feel a sense of nostalgia when recalling my struggles with fashion over the years. But for a publicly traded company, having a face of the company who makes good clothes look bad is a legitimate concern. Even while watching Survivor Series 1997 last night on #WWENetwork, my children marveled at just how bad I looked – even while wrestling in a tuxedo! My commissioner days of 2000, where I could wear anything I wanted are long over. I’m down almost 25 pounds since my back injury – due to a combination of #DDPYoga and wiser eating. Believe it or not, I’m actually 20 pounds lighter than I was during my time as WWE Commissioner in 2000. But I’m a long way from looking ready to assume any type of larger role with WWE.

No, I don’t think I will be the new man in charge. But I wish whoever does end up in charge the very best of luck. Besides, I really liked how it felt to come back as a surprise and make an impact…and look forward to doing it again!

  • Mick Foley Comments Again About WWE GM Rumors, WWE Tribute To The Troops Note

    – WWE is asking fans to record brief messages thanking the U.S. Troops for their service, some of which will be selected and used during the company’s upcoming “Tribute To The Troops” special in December. For more information, click here.

    – WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley posted the following on Facebook about wanting to return to WWE television as a General Manager.

“Everywhere I go these days, I am asked about the rumor that I will be the next GM of WWE Monday Night Raw. Yes, I’ve heard the rumor – but the runor’s only out there because I started it by writing last week that I would probably do it if asked. But as far as I know, that’s ALL there is to it, BUT, if the authority loses this Sunday at #SurvivorSeries, it does seem like there will be a shift in power – and possibly a new GM.”

  • Mick Foley On Possibly Returning To WWE As GM, His Recent RAW Appearance

The following are highlights of a new Chicago Now interview with WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley:

A few weeks ago you attended WWE to promote the Hell in a Cell PPV. What are the feelings for you after all these years standing behind a curtain right before you approach thousands of people?

This was a big role for me and the segment was a big stepping-stone for the PPV. I was nervous which is healthy. I wouldn’t have gotten nervous if I was just doing a guess spot on the show, but this was different. WWE realizes now that I can be called upon to add to their shows in an important manner.

The WWE Network hasn’t had the launch that the company would have liked but it still has plenty of content you can’t find anywhere else. What is the Network like for you when you go watch old matches or PPV’s you participated in?

Well I think it’s a great tool for me personality as it introduces a whole new generation of fans to who I was. They can discover my multiple characters over the years and it’s great to see.

When I come back to WWE guys are coming up to me asking about their matches and it’s very humbling. I think every wrestler needs to be a student of the game and continue to evolve.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea to look back at things that worked 20 years ago and use them in their character or setting today. I have no problem someone borrowing from the Mick Foley library.

The WWE General Manager spot on Raw or Smackdown has always been a big hit or miss. You mentioned in the past that you would be interested in that role again if it should come across your desk. Do you think this “position” has gone stale or is it something that can be rejuvenated?

I think their needs to be a balance of power. I think on screen the Authority has had too much power for too long and it’s been a little heel heavy.

I would hope I am on that short list of candidates for that type of role if it does arise. And if it was brought forth to me, I think I would do it. And with my personality I think I can bring a fresh attitude towards that “higher power”.

    FOLEY FOR GM?

When asked a few months ago on social media how I would feel about another run as a WWE General Manager, I said. “I don’t think I will be asked, and would turn down the offer if I was.”

Well, after my appearance on WWE Monday Night Raw a few weeks ago, I’ve kind of changed my tune. That appearance energized me, and made me feel like I just might have something to offer #WWE on a more regular basis.

I think there is a chance I’ll be asked about becoming GM within the next year – and if asked… I think I’d do it.

  • Mick Foley Blogs About His RAW Return, Acknowledges Mistakes He Made On-Air

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley, who made a surprise return on Monday’s WWE Hell In A Cell “go-home” edition of RAW in Kansas City, posted the following blog about his experience on his official Facebook page.

    YOU PROVED ME WRONG!

Just two weeks’s ago, following the electrifying live appearance of The Rock on #RAW, I was asked on social media when I’d be showing up. I replied that I wasn’t really in that league any more (the small list of legends who can make an instant impact with an appearance) and that I was more of a panel discussion guy, or a Hall of Famer who shows up to present an award, or appear in a backstage vignette. I wasn’t feeling sorry for myself either. I just honestly felt like that ship had sailed – and that I was no longer on board.

Well, last night, you proved me wrong! The whole scenario just seemed to make perfect sense, and I was able to feed off the energy of Ambrose, Rollins and a very appreciative Kansas City crowd to take part in something that felt special; something that left me feeling good – basking in the memories of the moment, and the amazing feedback from family, friends and fans. I felt like a kid who had gotten everything he’d asked for on Christmas. Sure, I made some mistakes. It was actually 18 years ago yesterday that I faced The Undertaker in “Buried Alive”, not “Not Hell in a Cell” which was two years later, and I misquoted Nietzsche…but who among us hasn’t done that?

Speaking of Christmas, how about that “flannel over Santa” look, marking the 300th consecutive day I’ve worn Santa Claus themed attire. Only 65 days left in this Foley fashion quest.

Realistically, what role would you like to see me play in WWE moving forward? I’ve got some ideas. Let me hear yours.

Thanks to all of you who have supported my live shows. There may be nothing like the adrenaline rush of a hot promo on live TV, but telling my tales across the country, and the world, is a close second. You can catch me TOMORROW in #Cornwall ON, Thursday & Friday on #Ottawa, then #QuebecCity for a combined Comic Con signing and live show on Saturday.

    NOVEMBER is looking to be a HUGE month for me, with #HardcoreLegend shows in #BROOKLYN #CHICAGO/#ROSEMONT & #PEORIA IL, #PROVIDENCE #MARIETTA & #CINCINNATI (Newport, KY) OH, #NASHVILLE & #MEMPHIS TN #ROME & #ATLANTA GA, and signings in #Rahway NJ & #GAFFNEY SC.

  • Al Snow Talks TNA Competing With WWE, Six-Sided Ring, Foley’s Comments

The following are highlights of a new Digital Spy interview with Al Snow:

Mick Foley’s recent Facebook post praising him: “I wondered whether he was sick or dying, because it was so out of character! We’re good friends, and we go back and forth at each other all the time. We’ve done that for years and we will continue to do so for years to come, it’s just what we do. Mick of course takes it to an obsessive level! But that’s Mick.”

Six-sided ring returning: “The six-sided ring is not that controversial to me. I don’t know what the controversy is. It’s two more sides. I think it’s a great identifier for TNA. You’re flipping through the TV channels and you see it, it stands out. It looks different, catches your attention. It might captivate somebody to watch for a few moments, and who knows, we may have another audience member.”

Can TNA be competitive in today’s wrestling landscape: “Back in the day in the US when there was different territories and things like that, one territory would get hot, become very successful and another one would cool off. It went that way. TNA has got all the tools to be a major success and a major competitor in the wrestling landscape. It’s just a matter of when, not if, it’ll fall together and click. Everybody will be like, ‘See, I told you it was going to happen’ when they’ve been naysayers this entire time. Everybody will jump off the bandwagon at that point. ‘I always knew that they could do it’. Sure you did.”
