  • Latest Names Being Considered For The WWE Hall Of Fame, Reaction To Chris Benoit’s WWE Encyclopedia Entry

    – With next year’s WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the company plans to pay homage to the famous area.

Besides Mick Foley likely being enshrined, there is discussion of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags) and Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray) being inducted, according to F4WOnline.com. Johnson made his debut at the famous arena in 1996, while Harlem Heat was a New York-based gimmick. In the case of The Nasty Boys, who hail from Allentown, Pennsylvania, the two were billed from “The Streets of New York City” during their time in World Championship Wrestling.

Company officials would also like to honor Owen Hart, who defeated Bret Hart in a memorable WrestleMania match at Madison Square Garden in 1994. Despite the push for Owen, the enshrinement is unlikely to materialize because his widow would not allow it. Hart’s brother Smith revealed on Twitter earlier this year, “Because she blames the wrestling business in its entirety for his death. “She is the sole owner of his estate. With Martha, there will never B a way, perhaps his kids may eventually make the choice. But thats at least 20 yrs in future.”

Plus, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President of Talent and Live Events, is said to “desperately” want Bruno Sammartino enshrined, but it’s considered a long shot for a multitude of reasons.

    – Though WWE has attempted to distance themselves from Chris Benoit since his career and life ended in a murder–suicide on June 24, 2007, the recently released WWE Encyclopedia features a sizable entry on the late wrestler. According to F4WOnline.com, this move has many people in WWE “baffled,” with his entry taking up more than half of a page.

The bio acknowledges Benoit emulating Dynamite Kid after seeing compete when he was 12-years-old, training in Stu Harts’s famous Dungeon, wrestling all over the world, making a name for himself in WCW before jumping to WWE, and fulfilling his destiny when he captured the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XX in a Triple Threat Match versus Triple H and Shawn Michaels. There is no acknowledgment of the double murder/suicide, though he is addressed in the past tense.

  • Mick Foley Talks To Marvel Comics About Tonight’s Tribute To The Troops Special

WWE legend Mick Foley spoke with the official website of Marvel Comics to promote tonight’s Tribute To The Troops show on the USA Network. Here are some highlights of what Foley said about:

WWE’s Tribute to the Troops Special:: It’s changed a lot in that we’re doing them in the U.S. as opposed to overseas. It’s a major difference. By doing it in the U.S. we’re able to show our support, have a great time, and not put the guys who are on the road full time through quite as much.

His Favorite Tribute to the Troops Moment: “I think my favorite moment was announcing that we have been signing a lot of autographs and that it was time for them to sign some autographs for me. So I threw a t-shirt out into the crowd for them to sign, and an hour later it made its way back into the locker room covered. It was like a work of art. It just had hundreds of signatures in every conceivable place. After holding on to it for several years, I thought that it really should be displayed at WWE headquarters. So I sent it along and I believe it’s framed and hanging there. But I also had the chance dressing up as Santa to vanquish the bad Santa Claus who turned out to be JBL in a Santa’s toy match where I ended up pummeling [him] with an oversized sack. A match so bad it was good.

Foley also talked about comic books and which WWE superstars he would pit comic book hero Captain America against.

Newsday.com has an interview up with WWE legend Mick Foley, who talks at length about his new children’s book, “A Most Mizerable Christmas.” The book features several WWE superstars, as children. Here’s what Foley said were their reactions to being depicted as children in the book:

“I went out of my way to talk to The Miz [Mike Mizanin] about eight months ago. And I said, “Hey, how would you think about being part of a book I’m working on?” . . . And I said: “I warn you. You’re going to be a jerk in it.” And he said, “Even better.” . . . the first draft , “How can you have a WWE children’s book and not include John Cena?” And I was like, “Oops.” He’s the No. 1 character who appeals to children. And I just created a role for a giant elf.”

    – During a recent interview on the PWTorch Livecast radio show, former WWE creative team member John Carle revealed that WWE has considered ending the Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak at various times throughout the years. He said:

“Yeah, we (the writing team) kind of talked about it. It was one of those things that was pitched, but it never really came to fruition.”

  • Mick Foley Interview – Why He Returned To WWE, Hall of Fame Rumors, His New Book

Mick Foley joined The Big Mosh and “The Chairman of the Board” Todd Vincent for an interview Monday Night Mayhem, which is now available for free download, exclusively on the WrestleView Radio Network (available here). Highlights from the interview are as follows:

How he wanted to have his latest book (“A Most Mizerable Christmas”) stand out from his previous releases: “It is a story based on my own son, who as a three-year old, told me he didn’t need anything from Santa, no matter how much I tried to prod him. When I approached the WWE about the idea of doing it, I knew the book market had changed a lot, and that there wasn’t going to be a lot of money in a children’s book. So, I made it very clear that it wasn’t about the money, that it was about trying to get a fun story with a positive message out there. I think we’ve accomplished that.”

Why he wanted to return to the WWE at this time in his life/career and if his on-air return lived up to his personal expectations: “Yeah, anything I do on the show is just a bonus, because I didn’t have any expectations as an on-air personality. That is one of the reasons why I really wanted to come back to the WWE, because there are so many ways to make contributions without being on the show. I’m happy for anything that comes my way.”

If he believes that a WWE Hall of Fame induction next April is closer to happening, after the recent focus given to him on WWE television: “I’m happy that the rumor I started has gotten this far. Yeah, I love the idea that people are talking about it. It is a big deal. If it were to happen at Madison Square Garden, it would be a bigger deal that if it happened anywhere else. It seems like a good idea, but I don’t call those shots. There are other guys that did better in that building than I did who should get the call as well. I would certainly accept it if it came my way, but I won’t be to bitterly disappointed if it doesn’t. I hope it does.”

Much more is contained in Mick Foley’s exclusive interview with Monday Night Mayhem, including his candid thoughts on how the WWE locker room has responded to “A Most Mizerable Christmas,” how he believes The Miz has shed the image of the “reality TV star,” getting the opportunity to work with CM Punk on the WWE stage, how their exchange of promos delivered for the audience, and why he decided to become part of the WWE’s “Be A Star” campaign.

  • Mick Foley Puts Over Dean Ambrose, JBL Blogs About His Next Mountain Climb

    – WWE announcer JBL posted a Facebook.com on Monday night about his upcoming mountain climb of Mt. Aconcagua, also known as “Mount Death.” He wrote:

“Less than 7 weeks out from Mt Aconcagua-nicknamed “Mt Death” some estimates are as high as 60% success rate but seems like closer to 30% is more accurate. Numbers are all over the place as records are not kept that well and some are embellished for marketing.”

“This is the highest mountain outside of Asia, by far my toughest test. Since it is only 80 miles from the Pacific Ocean wind chills can be deadly. I might need a little luck, however, if weather is OK I believe I have a great chance of making it.”

    – Mick Foley tweeted the following during Monday’s RAW about Dean Ambrose:

    https://twitter.com/realmickfoley/status/273254679453003777

Earlier this year, Mick Foley and Dean Ambrose were feuding on social media, with Ambrose calling out Foley for “destroying a generation” of wrestlers by championing the hardcore style of chairs and barbed wire. Ambrose confronted Mick Foley at a hotel in Florida during WrestleMania 28 weekend and there was talk of Ambrose debuting on the main roster in a feud with Mick Foley, but they eventually called a truce and the angle was dropped.

    – The October 22nd edition WWE RAW had 337,000 homes watching on DVR or tape delay. The following week, October 29th, had 241,000 homes watching delayed.

    – Following her recent departure from WWE developmental, there are currently no plans to bring Raquel Diaz (Shaul Guerrero) back to the company.

    – Earlier this week, Mick Foley tweeted that he won’t be wrestling WWE Champion CM Punk because he can’t and rumors to the contrary are false. • Rumored TLC Main Event & Possible Scenarios For CM Punk’s WWE Title Future

The main event of December’s WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view is rumored to be CM Punk vs. Mick Foley. The event takes place from Brooklyn, New York, close to where Foley is from. The match would probably be a non-title match and would give Punk a year-end feud leading into his expected WWE title defense against The Rock at the Royal Rumble.

If Punk retains the WWE title at Survivor Series and drops the belt to The Rock at the Royal Rumble, this could set up either Rock vs. Cena 2 or Rock vs. Punk 2 at WrestleMania.

Another scenario would be John Cena winning the WWE title at Survivor Series, 1 day shy of CM Punk reaching the 1-year mark as champion. Cena would then go on to face The Rock at the Royal Rumble, setting up a possible Rock vs. Cena III at WrestleMania or Rock vs. Punk for the WWE title at WrestleMania, if Rock beats Cena at the Rumble.

  • Mick Foley Weighs In On Whether Ryback Can Be The Face of WWE, His WrestleMania 29 Dream Match, HOF Rumors

Mick Foley appeared on Busted Open with Dave Lagreca and Doug Mortman. The program airs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays on Sirius 92 and XM 208 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., visit www.facebook.com/bustedopen for more information. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

Brad Armstrong: “I got to be honest, I just found out from you guys. I did not know that Brad Armstrong had passed away. (Mick was in Korea last week) He was one of the most respected guys. I remember Vader wrestling Brad in ’92 and him coming back and saying ‘What an honor it was to be to share the same ring with that guy.’ Brad was appreciated by people backstage, but I don’t think fans had an idea of how great he was. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Armstrong family. We were really tight with the Armstrongs, especially when I lived in Florida, Scotty, Brian, and Bullet would come by our gym and we really got to know the Armstrongs well. Scotty Armstrong is one of my favorite guys to see, now when I go back, man, I cant believe at 51 years old Brad is gone.”

Possibly entering the Hall of Fame next year: “There is so much to do from my perspective at Wrestlemania. There is a rumor that I may have something additional to do this year. I’m alluding to the Hall of Fame rumor that I started several months ago. (Laughs) If there is going to be a time and place, it seems like a good time and place. I don’t even know where Wrestlemania is next year, but wherever it is, it wouldn’t be as cool as being inducted say at the Garden or nearby, especially with my family there. Let’s face it, I would save a ton of money on airfare. (Laughs)”

What would be his dream match be at Wrestlemania 29: “I would love to see Rock and Punk. I really would. I don’t know if there are talking about any guest returns, but say Rock wins the championship and Punk as a contender I think would be really compelling. I love the way he has done everything not to be the cool heel. That he has managed to get people to hate him when he was among one of the most beloved, maybe Cena was the most popular, and maybe the most beloved, but outside that prime Cena age, people loved Punk. He has managed to be really effective with it and do some of his most captivating stuff. When you’re in the ring with him, and standing face to face you realize you’re dealing with greatness there.”

Is the WWE in a dangerous position relying on part time wrestlers?: “No, I think it’s great as long as you don’t over play that hand. Other than Rock as a special occasion, he’s an A-list actor that brings an incredible amount of outside interest to anything he does. Why not go all the way with the guy and see what happens? Why not give it a try, you never know unless you try. At first people thought this was a one dimensional Goldberg thing, he still gives the Goldberg chants. But I can’t remember the last time somebody has gotten over, Umaga to some extent, by just crushing people. He is such an impressive guy and he uses his strength functionally to put two or three people up on his shoulders, it’s really impressive.”

Can a guy like Ryback be the face of WWE?: “I don’t know, but you don’t know until you do it. And as far as being able to pick up the stick and that ability to talk adds to our characters. But who’s to say Ryback’s character should be a guy who talks a lot. You might want to keep it surrounded by mystery, like the way of Undertaker, sometimes the less he said the more effective he was. I went to give Ryback a little encouragement before his cell match and he just disappears into his character like great performers do. If you got a guy that can disappear into a character and it’s that impressive then I think, A, he might develop into a great talker, or B, he might not need to be one, or C, it might not make a difference.”

Are wrestling fans hard to please?: “I think it’s the nature of the business; people are going to complain about everything. Daniel Bryan for example, is a much bigger star and who could have seen that happen? He broke down the next barrier with humor. Most people love the team ‘Hell No’ even though that wasn’t my choice. I think you can’t keep wrestling fans happy all the time. I realized when I was stupid enough to go out there on the Internet and see what people were saying about me, a lot of people don’t like me either. You can’t please all the people all the time.”

His book: “Man, I would love to recruit him (Miz). I shed many figurative tears when Punk went bad, realizing the book would have a much less chance. My goal for the book, I wrote a blog called ‘I love this book,’ my goal is for it to do well enough that I can do another one. I love the idea of being able to do something positive and work hand in hand with WWE’s Be A Star Campaign. To the point where I met with Triple H over a year ago and we were talking about ways I would be able to work with the company, and the last thing I said when I was leaving the office is, I would really like to do a children’s book. I said it’s not about the money; it’s the perfect opportunity to work with Be A Star.I really want the book to do well enough so I can do another one.”

Team Ziggler: “I like the direction that the pay-per- view is headed. I don’t know if a Survivor Series classic matchup is enough of a draw on top as a pay-per-view. I think as a semi main event it’s really good and anything that gives Ziggler spotlight I think is a positive. And if I can recruit the Miz, which I would really love because it would be good for the book.”

His WrestleMania moment: “It’s got to be the one with Edge, I’ve told that story when I do my shows about realizing being surrounded by charred flesh and blood, even as the referee was counting to three, I was like, ‘I got my moment, I got my moment.’ When I made that phone call home, which I had to do under direct orders after every single pay-per-view, my wife answers the phone and said, ‘Is Edge okay?’ That was my magic WrestleMania moment and then being dramatically brought down to earth.”

As seen Monday on Raw, WWE overhauled its plans for Survivor Series on November 18, 2012.

On the show, Vince McMahon mandated that CM Punk will defend his WWE Championship in a Triple Threat Match against Ryback and John Cena at the pay-per-view event. With this turn of events, Team Punk is now known as Team Ziggler, while Team Foley has an empty fifth slot. Prior to the change, The Miz quit the group in protest of Punk’s leadership, and was replaced by Wade Barrett after Paul Heyman aggressively sought him.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE changed their plans for multiple reasons. Among them was the belief that the originally scheduled main event, Team Punk vs. Team Foley in Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match, would draw dismal pay-per-view buy numbers. With rare exceptions, tag team matches as main events are generally mediocre earners on pay-per-view. The entire Bragging Rights concept was dropped for that very reason.

What also swayed plans for Survivor Series were the pay-per-view buy figures for Hell in a Cell on DirecTV being “surprisingly strong.” Privately, McMahon credited Ryback for the result and felt placing him in a ten-man tag team match, even though he would likely be left standing, would not be beneficial to him. McMahon feels they need to capitalize on Ryback’s momentum, which would require the muscle-bound grappler to challenge for the WWE Championship in the main event.
