Mick Foley Reveals Thoughts On Owen Hart Cup Tournament

Mick Foley loves the idea of honoring Owen Hart through the ongoing AEW tournament. The wrestling veteran feels that it’s long overdue.

The Hardcore Legend appeared on Throwing Down w/ Renee & Miesha. He talked about things such as the 20th anniversary of Randy Orton’s WWE debut and more.

He was also asked for his thoughts on AEW and the Owen Hart Cup Tournament. Mick Foley first joked that they shouldn’t stop themselves from spreading any rumors about him making an appearance. So he can get a lucrative deal similar to Bret Hart.

He then said that the idea of honoring Owen Hart is beautiful:

“Look, I’ll be honest Renee, I don’t watch [AEW] as much as I used to. I catch it when I can. I turn it on. I like what AEW is doing. I love the idea of honoring Owen Hart.

It’s way overdue and I know that it means a lot to people, like those guys [FTR]. The Owen Hart tournament. It’s a beautiful thing.” said Mick Foley, “I think that they should do it every week. This whole forbidden door concept where partners get to wrestle partners. It’s pretty cool.”

The match Mick talked about will be taking place on Dynamite this Wednesday. It will see FTR’s Cash Wheeler going up against his partner Dax Harwood in a qualifying bout for the Owen Hart Cup tournament.

Mick Foley: Terry Funk “Doing Better Than it was Reported”

Wrestling legend Mick Foley has provided a positive update on another legend, Terry Funk.

Back in July 2021, Don Muraco revealed that Funk was suffering from dementia and was in an assisted-living facility. Mike Johnson of PWInsider later confirmed that claim.

“I heard that Terry Funk is in a home for dementia. I spoke with Scott Casey over the weekend and I guess he’s driving all the way down to Amarillo,” Muraco said on the show.

The official Twitter account of Funk followed up with this statement:

“Yes, Mr. Funk is currently receiving residential care for his multiple health issues, which do affect his mind as well as the rest of his body. As you can imagine, some days are better than others. He & his family appreciate all of your kind words! FOREVER!”

Mick Foley Provides Update On Terry Funk

Mick Foley took to a High Spots signing session to give a positive update on the 77-year-old Terry Funk.

“Terry is doing better than it was reported. So, I will tell you he is in assisted living but I talked to him about a month ago, Tony Hunter talked to him a few days ago. He’s doing pretty good.”

Foley went on to explain what Funk might need assistance for these days.

“So, he does need some assistance but that can be as simple as not remembering to turn a burner off. So, he’s doing good.”

Mick Foley Details His First WWE Contract

Things were very different in the wrestling industry when Mick Foley began his career back in 1986. One such big difference at the time was that wrestlers were not offered guaranteed contracts or the offered amount was really low. This meant that if the company you signed with decided not to use you for some reason, then you couldn’t make a living in wrestling until the deal expired.

This was the case for Foley too. The WWE Hall Of Famer told the story of his first contract while getting treated by Dr. Beau Hightower. He revealed that his first contract with the company in 1996 guaranteed him a total of 5 matches per year:

“I was guaranteed $25 a night.” joked Mick Foley, “The contract that I signed for WWE. I was guaranteed five matches a year at $150 for five years. So if they [had] chosen not to push me then I could have been in a position where I can’t go anywhere else. I’m locked in for five years, but this is the place to go, WWE.”

Mick Foley also discussed how former boxer Marc Mero was the first man to have gotten a guaranteed deal with a significant amount. Foley revealed that Mero got his contract only days after he signed his own:

“Luckily, Marc Mero got that contract. He got it about three days after I signed for nothing. $750 a year. I said ‘Yeah I was guaranteed 750’ and they went ‘per year?’ ‘Yeah’, ‘That’s a lot. $750,000.’ I said ‘No, no, $750.’ That’s what I was guaranteed.”

Mick Foley Reacts To Hilarious Vince McMahon Botch At WrestleMania

The confrontation between Vince McMahon and Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 38 became even more memorable because of McMahon’s botched Stunner. Mick Foley also had his fun with the spot.

The WWE Hall Of Famer reacted to the whole thing on Twitter. He first made a tweet wondering if this was the worst Stunner ever.

https://twitter.com/RealMickFoley/status/1510817636459945985

Foley then posted a video of his reaction to the spot and in another tweet, he mentioned that Mr McMahon’s leg seemed to have buckled before the move:

The night two of WrestleMania 38 featured a match between Austin Theory and Pat McAfee. The WWE chairman was at ringside to encourage Theory for this bout.

McAfee won this fight via roll up. He challenged Mr McMahon to a match afterward, which the WWE owner accepted. Vince won this match with some help from Theory.

As Mr McMahon was celebrating his victory in the ring, Stone Cold Steve Austin’s music hit. The Texas Rattlesnake walked down to the ring to a big applause.

Steve Austin first stunned Theory. The Attitude Era star then turned his attention towards the boss. He offered him a beer before giving McMahon a stunner as well.

Stone Cold then invited Pat McAfee into the ring to share a beer with him but ended up giving him a Stunner as well. The segment ended with Austin alone standing tall.

Mick Foley’s Podcast Is Coming Soon

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley announced he has a new podcast on the way.

Foley is POD

Foley recently announced that his new podcast “Foley is POD” is coming soon. However, a premiere date was not announced. We will have to stay tuned for that information, along with the format of the podcast.

Foley, a man of many identities, was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a part of the class of 2013. He is a three-time WWE Champion. He has been a competitor in WWE, WCW, ECW, IMPACT Wrestling and many other companies across the globe. Foley is more than just a wrestler. He is also a successful writer and stand up comedian. He has been on the New York Times bestselling list many times due to his autobiographies.

Wrestling Legends In Podcasting

Vader to be Inducted into The WWE Hall of Fame

WWE will posthumously induct Vader into the 2022 WWE Hall of Fame.

Bleacher Report first reported that WWE would add Vader to the Hall of Fame class this year. The WWE Hall of Fame will take place on Apr. 1 at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas. WWE confirmed the news in a press release on their website.

“As first reported by Bleacher Report, Vader will be posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2022. The Mastodon will be enshrined in the hallowed hall during the 2022 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony as part of WrestleMania Week,” said WWE.

WWE Finally Inducts Vader to the Hall of Fame

For several years, wrestling legends and fans wanted WWE to induct Vader into the WWE Hall of Fame. After Vader passed away at 63 years old due to heart failure on Jun. 18, 2018, Mick Foley advocated that the company should induct “The Mastodon.” He called Vader’s absence into the Hall of Fame “the most glaring and obvious omission from the WWE Hall of Fame.”

Sean Waltman also expressed disappointment in the company’s hesitance to honor Vader. In an interview with The Tomorrow Show with Keven Undergaro, Waltman shared that Vader wanted WWE to induct him before he passed away.

“It was really important to him to be put in the Hall of Fame, and it really sucks. He deserved it too. Sometimes when you push too hard, and you’re out there, and you’re begging for it too much, it works against you. And that sucks in that case,” said Waltman(h/t Jon Feuntes).

It’s unclear if Vader’s family is disappointed in the WWE’s hesitance to induct Vader before his passing. However, this year “The Mastodon” will finally get his recognition by the company. He will also posthumously be honored alongside The Undertaker, his rival during his WWE career.

Mick Foley on Cesaro Leaving WWE: Their Loss is Pro Wrestling’s Gain

Mic Foley is speaking out about Cesaro leaving WWE. Foley has long advocated for the company to get behind the Swiss Superman, as seen below.

Cesaro has received occasional pushes during his 11 years with WWE. He’s won championships and even main-evented a pay-per-view last year. However, many feel WWE never truly believed he could be a featured player like John Cena, Randy Orton or Roman Reigns.

On Friday, Foley released a video statement addressing Cesaro’s time with WWE and his future. Foley says he’s disappointed. He’s been a fan of Cesaro since his early days on the independent scene. He thinks Cesaro can work anywhere in the world and tear down the house working all different styles of wrestling.

Mick Foley called the 41-year old grappler “one of the greatest workers of his generation” who can and will be a world champion in the future.

“WWE’s loss is going to be professional wrestling’s gain”

– Mick Foley

Watch Mick Foley’s video statement about Cesaro’s WWE release:

Mick Foley Begs for Vince to Push Cesaro

This is far from the first time Mick Foley has advocated for Cesaro to be pushed as a main event player. During his appearance on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions, Foley literally begged Vince McMcMahon to give Cesaro a chance.

“Can I talk to the camera? Vince, please… you [Steve Austin] started in 88 or 89? 60 years of experience, we know a little something. We both proved Vince wrong, right? He had us set for this level and I’d say we exceeded that level. Trust us and give him the chance. Let him prove… I’ll get down on my knees, and I’ll beg… Vince, please. All we’re saying is give Cesaro a chance. I just believe in that guy wholeheartedly. Give him a chance.”

Steve Austin agreed with Foley’s assessment.

“Give him a chance, give him a gimmick. Just put a rocket ship on his back, no telling what the kid can do.”

The One Thing Mick Foley Believes Is Missing From Wrestling

A lot has changed in WWE since the Attitude Era. Everything that goes on TV is much more scripted. Different characters share a lot more traits than they did in the past. One example is that the heels are always looking for ways to win and they share the same tactics. Mick Foley believes the one thing that’s missing from WWE today, is a heel that just wants to hurt his opponent.

The WWE Hall Of Famer recently sat down with AEW star Thunder Rosa. The two ate tacos and discussed all things pro wrestling. Foley was asked which wrestlers he would like to face if he was starting his wrestling career today. The hardcore legend unsurprisingly took the names of people such as Jon Moxley and Darby Allin:

“Assuming I was near the top of the game, I would have loved to wrestle Moxley. Bray Wyatt, in whatever incarnation he comes back, but I also loved wrestling the smaller guys who did the flying. Because although I could not work every style, I could adapt to just about any style. I could incorporate aspects of what anyone else did and then put my own personal stamp on it.

So coming out of the gate when Ricochet came into WWE. You need a great opening feud. I thought if I was that guy, in my prime with someone who can do anything, but is also small enough for me to come across as a power wrestler. I think we really could have made an impression. And there’ll be other guys like Darby Allin. If in my prime I could have got my hands on Darby Allin [that would have been so much fun].”

Mick Foley On What’s Missing From Wrestling

Mick Foley
Mick Foley

Mick Foley continued by talking about the current state of WWE and the wrestling world in general. He gave the example of Abdullah The Butcher and said the one thing that’s missing from wrestling today is heels that are not there to win matches but to hurt their opponents:

“The one thing I say sometimes it’s missing. This is I guess a knock on Mr. McMahon. He wants every heel to look like they’re trying to win at every moment. That’s great for some people. But Abdullah The Butcher didn’t go for covers. He looked like he was there to end your life. So sometimes what’s missing is that aspect that the babyface is not fighting for a win. He’s literally fighting for his life.

I think that’s one of the things that’s missing there.” said Foley, “It’s another one. You can’t overdo it. You can’t have five matches like that. But if you had one certifiable madman. I mean, I’d like to think that in my prime if I had a guy like Darby Allen. I’d be looking out and then there would be be tears falling as people feared for his life.”

Mick Foley Explains Why Match with Jon Moxley Never Happened

Mick Foley and Jon Moxley (Dean Ambrose at the time) were originally slated to have a match in WWE back in 2012. The symbolism of such a match would have been spectacular — a hardcore icon from years past passing the torch to a new-school hardcore performer.

However, plans for the match were dropped after Foley was unable to get clearance from medical personnel to actually participate. This followed Foley and Moxley having already put the wheels in motion, both in real life and across social media (Moxley further expands on this in his new book, Mox).

In an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Foley spoke about failing an impact test which resulted in the angle being halted.

“I did not fare well on the WWE impact test. I went to a neurologist independent of WWE and he told me I should never wrestle again. WWE’s neurologist said the exact same thing,” Foley revealed (h/t Wrestling Inc.). “This is something that I am so proud of, and it shows I am a wrestler to the end. When Robert Cantu, one of the most respected neurologists in the country tells me I should never wrestle again.

“I look him in the eye and say, ‘I can work an entire match around my left knee,’” Foley revealed. “He says, ‘Mr. Foley, you struck me as a very bright young man when I met you a couple of weeks ago. Since then I’ve been doing some research on you, you’ve got a lot to live for. If you think you can find another neurologist to clear you, then that’s up to you. But I am telling you, you should never wrestle again.’ That was the end of the Moxley angle.”

Foley Complimentary of Another AEW Star

Elsewhere in the interview, Foley talked about getting to meet another AEW star recently: Thunder Rosa.

“She strikes me as one of those really rare people who feels it every time she’s getting in the ring. I’d like to say I felt it every time. I didn’t,” Foley said. “Ric Flair did, Terry Funk did, and it’s a short list. But she’s someone that’s just like, lives, breathes wrestling. She’s such a super cool person.”

Foley continued, talking about Rosa’s drawing power, specifically in reference to a show in Texas.

“She got the biggest pop. I think it was a big reason why we had such a big house in San Antonio. We had almost 300 people on a Monday. By that time, the very high end for any of my shows, my shows are normally 150 to 200. Three years ago, I didn’t dare do a show on Monday because I thought, ‘I can’t compete with Raw.’ So she put some butts in seats and we had a good time,” Foley said.

WWE Legend Mick Foley Explains What Makes Thunder Rosa Special

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley believes Thunder Rosa is a one-of-a-kind talent.

Rosa signed with AEW back in July. She had been with the NWA on a per-date deal. Once she put pen to paper with AEW, it was the biggest opportunity in her pro wrestling career.

Thunder Rosa has gained plenty of steam over the past year. She constantly gets big crowd reactions and seems to be in prime position to challenge for the AEW Women’s Championship sometime in 2022.

Thunder Rosa & The ‘It’ Factor

Mick Foley appeared on Busted Open Radio and during a chat with Mark Henry and Dave LaGreca, he detailed why he thinks Thunda Rosa is a special talent.

“She strikes me as one of those really rare people who feels it every time she’s hitting the ring, and I mean, I’d like to say I felt it every time. I didn’t.

“Ric Flair did, Terry Funk did, and it’s a short list but she’s somebody that just like, oh man, lives, breaths wrestling and she’s just a super cool person.”

In the midst of a book tour to promote his Have a Nice Day! autobiography, Foley was joined by Thunder Rosa in San Antonio. Foley knew that Rosa was a draw and that much was evident during that tour appearance.

“She killed it. I said, ‘Yeah, set up a merch table.’ So, she killed it on merch which was really nice and she also — I mean she got the big pop.

“I think that was a big reason that we had such a big house in San Antonio. We had almost 300 people on a Monday and that’s on the very high-end for my shows.

“My shows usually [do] 150 to 200 and on a Monday, even as little as three years ago, I didn’t dare do a show on Monday because I thought, ‘Oh no, no I can’t compete with Raw,’ so I really think she puts butts in seats.”

Thunder Rosa is a semi-finalist in the TBS Championship tournament. She will meet Jade Cargill and the winner will move on to the finals.

The finals of the tourney will be held on Jan. 5. This will mark the debut of Dynamite on its new home, TBS. Rampage will remain on TNT and AEW will be running quarterly specials on TNT.

Several Former WWE Stars Make Appearance At NWA Hard Times 2

The NWA Hard Times 2 PPV featured not only a number of interesting matches but it also saw a few former WWE stars making surprise appearances at the show.

The first of them was the wrestling legend Mick Foley who brought the Christmas spirit with him. He said he is keeping a close eye on the show and warned the talents against crossing the line.

Dirty Dango also made his debut for the promotion during the Hard Times 2 PPV. He showed up with JTG after the tag team titles match.

The bout saw La Rebelión defeating The End to retain their championships. Dango and JTG pointed at the winners from the curtain before heading to the back.

Though probably the most impactful debut of the night was of Matt Cardona. He showed up after Trevor Murdoch defeated Mike Knox to retain the NWA worlds heavyweight championship in the main event of Hard Times 2.

Cardona pretended to come out to congratulate Murdoch. This allowed Knox to hit Murdoch with a low blow. The whole incident upset Mick Foley.

The hardcore legend sent Da Pope after Cardona but Pope was taken out by the former WWE star. Matt Cardona then got in the ring and held up the world title, to make his intentions clear and end the show.

Mick Foley Says Jon Moxley & Nick Gage Are Carrying The Torch He Lit With Terry Funk

Mick Foley presented the GCW Championship belt when Jon Moxley faced Nick Gage earlier this month. Foley recently spoke to Metro about the promotion and praised Moxley and Gage in particular. Foley says that they are carrying the torch that he lit with Terry Funk back in their day.

“Who am I to tell someone their style of wrestling is wrong? I had the type of stuff that I enjoyed watching. I can appreciate lucha [libre], for example, but it wasn’t what I wanted to do,” Foley said. “I like the wild matches and these guys have taken that torch that Funk and I lit, and ran a couple of laps on their own with it.”

Foley also noted that he would love to return as Cactus Jack and face Matt Cardona for GCW. He also noted he is not able to do so, however.

“Oh, can you imagine the heat that Cardona would have if Cactus Jack came back for one last match? I can’t do it – I’m just saying, imagine! That’d be great.”

Foley continued to praise GCW.

“There’s all different types of wrestling out there for all different types of fans, and then you find a product that caters to fans who really take their wrestling seriously – I tell you, GCW’s a great show!”

Mick Foley Calls For Tony Khan To Book Fan Requested AEW Rematch

Mick Foley has noticed fans wanting to see All Elite Wrestling book the anticipated rematch between Thunder Rosa and AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker.

The WWE Hall of Famer took to Twitter to try to convince the man who can make it happen and that’s AEW President Tony Khan. It all started when Foley had an exchange with Baker after Foley posted a backstage selfie with Rosa while at the GCW Fight Club event over the weekend.

https://twitter.com/RealMickFoley/status/1447015872120467459?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1447015872120467459%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpublish.twitter.com%2F%3Fquery%3Dhttps3A2F2Ftwitter.com2FRealMickFoley2Fstatus2F1447015872120467459widget%3DTweet

Foley called her the true women’s Hardcore Legend while also apologizing to Baker, who saw the post and responded with “Try again Mick. [face with tears of joy emoji].”

The Hardcore Legend responded by calling for Khan to help settle the argument by simply booking the bout. He wrote, “Last time I checked, Britt, it was @thunderrosa22 who picked up the W. Maybe a rematch is in order. @TonyKhan… want to help settle this argument?”

Khan has not responded to Foley’s tweet. Rosa and Baker last wrestled each other in a bloody unsanctioned main event match on an episode of Dynamite earlier this year.

In August, it was reported the promotion wanted to save the match for next year with it taking place at a pay-per-view or on a special episode of Dynamite.

Per the report, All Elite Wrestling has considered various stipulations ranging from a cage match to a hair match. Whatever stipulation is decided upon, the idea is to build it to be the biggest women’s match in company history.

Mick Foley Believes WWE Needs To Pay More Attention To Continuity

Mick Foley had been very vocal about WWE’s mistreatment of stars recently. He continued talking about the promotion’s problems during his recent appearance on Sean Waltman’s Pro Wrestling 4 Life podcast.

The Hall Of Famer discussed how Vince McMahon changing the script of WWE shows at the last minute has become a regular occurrence in the company.

Speaking of how these last-minute changes affect the quality of programming, Foley said that it leads to the shows losing their continuity. He then compared WWE’s state to AEW explaining how it makes WWE look bad in comparison:

“You lose your continuity. When you promise people two or three different matches for the next week and then they don’t take place, and you don’t explain why,

And then you have another show [AEW] that does a really good job of telling you what’s gonna take place next week.”

Detailing how he would fix this problem, Mick Foley said that the officials need to go back to the big picture thinking. They should pay more attention to continuity:

“I just think they need to pay attention to continuity, They need to go back to big picture thinking, outside of just the WrestleMania main event, and they need to let the talent be as good as it can be.”

More On Nixed Zelina Vega Match From SmackDown, Mick Foley Comments

WWE nixed a tag team match from this week’s episode of SmackDown due to time restraints. People like Zelina Vega, Carmella, and Liv Morgan who were supposed to compete in this bout had later reacted to the news on Twitter.

When reports about this tag match being canceled from the Madison Square Garden show first came out, the name of the fourth participant for this bout was not known.

Now Post Wrestling’s John Pollock has provided some update on the situation. He revealed that Toni Storm was the wrestler originally scheduled to team with Liv Morgan for this SmackDown match.

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley who has recently been very vocal about the company’s mistreatment of talents commented on this situation as well. He noted how it was unfortunate that Zelina Vega didn’t get to compete on the show:

https://twitter.com/RealMickFoley/status/1436844772795224064

For those who don’t know, WWE had dedicated the super SmackDown episode to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the 20th anniversary of the unfortunate incident.

Zelina Vega, who lost her father in the attack, was a big part of the promotion for this episode. Fans have since expressed their displeasure with the way WWE handled this situation and nixed her match.

Toni Storm made her official main roster debut during the July 23 episode of SmackDown. Though the former NXT UK women’s champion has not been seen on WWE programming since.

Mick Foley Continues To Criticize WWE Creative

Mick Foley garnered headlines recently after posting a video to social media critical of how WWE handles its talent from a creative perspective. Foley has since expanded on those thoughts during appearances on Sean Waltman’s Pro Wrestling 4 Life podcast and Busted Open Radio.

“I think it’s something WWE needed to hear,” Foley said of his video on Busted Open Radio. “I used Karrion Kross as an example of somebody whose main roster debut was about 1/8th as electrifying as his NXT debut, that’s an issue. Then when you go from watering down a character to embarrassing it, I think that sends a bad signal to everyone who is in developmental and everyone who has a choice to make, a real choice to make.”

Foley’s son, Dewey Foley, works in creative for WWE. As of 2020, Dewey was working on creative for 205 Live.

“If I’m Adam Cole and I’m looking at what just happened with a few of the guys who made their debuts, I would seriously have to consider whether WWE was the place where my dreams will come true,” Foley continued. “When you put all these things together and you see that people are departing for what they now see are greener pastures, that’s a problem for WWE.”

Foley’s comments on Busted Open Radio can be heard in the below Tweet:

Foley also posted the following regarding Johnny Impact vs Killer Kross in Impact and John Morrison and Karrion Kross in WWE.

Mick Foley On His Comments About WWE

Foley was also on Sean Waltman’s podcast recently and spoke about his issues with WWE creative.

“I love the company. I really do, and I think they need to hear that. If I texted Vince that’s one thing, and that might be effective, but I think it needs to get out there. If it embarrasses them, I think that’s ok,” Foley said on the show.

Mick Foley: WWE Is No Longer The Place For Talent To Aspire To

Wrestling legend Mick Foley believes younger talent is skeptical of how they’ll be used in WWE.

AEW has served as an alternative for many wrestling fans. Recently, we’ve seen the likes of Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, and Adam Cole make their arrivals in the promotion. In Cole’s situation, his WWE contract ran out sooner than expected and the 32-year-old said the decision was quite “easy.”

Foley hopped on Facebook to address the reason he thinks AEW has become a more appealing option than WWE for some talent.

“The problem is that WWE is no longer the place for talent to aspire to. Part of it is because AEW is doing a great job of attracting great talent, proven talent, building younger talent, creating storylines. But part of it is a problem of your own making. I think younger talent sees the way that developmental characters are cut or left by the wayside or in the case of Karion Kross, greatly watered down and even made a joke of when they debut on the main roster.

“If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. If I was an aspiring talent now, a big-league talent with a major decision to make, I’m not sure that I would trust WWE creative to do the right thing with my career. You guys did wonders with me, uh, back in the day, that was a different time, a different place. If it was today, I’m not sure I would trust the powers to be with my career in their hands and until that changes WWE, you’ve got a problem.”

You can watch his comments here:

Mick Foley has been outspoken about WWE’s decision-making in regards to on-air talent. More recently, he was critical of a chair spot involving Drew McIntyre and Shanky.

Do you agree with Mick Foley or is WWE still the place to be for young talent?

Drew McIntyre Responds To Mick Foley’s Criticism Of Chair Spot

Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has given his response to concerns from Mick Foley.

On the July 19 edition of Monday Night Raw, McIntyre had enough of Jinder Mahal’s cronies, Shanky and Veer. McIntyre stormed the ring with a chair and while Mahal and Veer escaped, Shanky was left alone. McIntyre nailed Shanky with a ton of chair shots to the point where Foley took to his Twitter account to criticize the angle.

Foley expressed his belief that the angle should’ve been saved for a massive feud. Wrestling Inc spoke to McIntyre, who discussed Foley’s issue with the angle.

“I would never gloss over those comments, especially from somebody like Mick. He has helped me dramatically in my career and is someone I have so much respect for, but everyone’s gonna have different opinions, and his was it should be saved for a huge story. To me, this is a huge story. Anything I do, I want to be the biggest story, and if that’s the reasoning behind it, that’s his opinion, and I respect that, but I’m going to do whatever I can to make people look over here and say, ‘Wow, look at what Drew’s doing over here’ and then expect them to take the physicality to that level.

“You screw Drew McIntyre over the one thing he cares about more than anything else, the one thing he’s worked for his entire life, the one thing he held in front of nobody, the thing he wants back, the WWE Title, and Jinder and his guys took that away from him. So imagine what Drew McIntyre’s going to do. He’s going to take the physicality to a level never been seen before, including 34 chair shots.”

McIntyre will go one-on-one with Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam this Saturday night (Aug. 21). Shanky and Veer are banned from ringside. The action will be held inside Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mick Foley Comes To CM Punk’s Defense After Roman Reigns’ Comments

Wrestling legend Mick Foley is sticking up for CM Punk following comments made by WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Punk has been the talk of the wrestling world lately. While nothing has been announced, Punk is expected to make an appearance tomorrow night (Aug. 20) at AEW Rampage: The First Dance. This episode of Rampage will be held inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Reigns recently had an interview with Ariel Helwani for BT Sport. When Helwani mentioned that Punk has long been a detractor of part-timers taking the spotlight from full-time workers in the wrestling industry, Reigns had the following response.

“… I think, man, those statements are coming from bitter people. Who possibly thought they were better than they really were. When it comes down to it, CM Punk was not as good or as over as a John Cena. Wasn’t as good or as over and moved the needle, like The Rock.”

Mick Foley took to his Twitter account and made it clear that he disagrees with Reigns and feels Punk was as good and as over as he said he was.

“CM PUNK WAS DAMN GOOD, AND DAMN OVER. With one interview he changed the course of the wrestling business. He had great matches with a wide variety of opponents on a nightly basis. When/if he returns to wrestling, he will once again be damn good and damn over.”

If all indications are correct, we won’t have to wait long to see just how much of a needle-mover Punk is in 2021. He hasn’t been involved with a wrestling promotion since 2014. His stint on WWE Backstage was through FOX, not WWE.

Who do you agree with on the popularity ceiling of CM Punk, Mick Foley or Roman Reigns?

Mick Foley Critical of Drew McIntyre’s Chair Assault on RAW

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has taken to social media to speak up about Drew McIntyre’s chair assault on Monday Night Raw.

If there was ever a wrestler who knew a thing or two about chairs and taking nasty bumps it is Mick Foley. A hardcore legend if ever there was one. While taking the time to voice his discontent, it wasn’t because of the violence of the attack. Rather, it was because he felt such a violent attack needed to serve a grander purpose.

“Big fan of Drew’s…but 20 chair shots should either be done to build a feud of epic proportions…or they shouldn’t be done at all #RAW,” Mick Foley wrote.

The assault, delivered to Jinder Mahal’s lackey Shankey, is the latest in a series of attacks between the pair in a feud that started after Mahal stole McIntyre’s sword. There is a history between both men stretching back to their days in 3MB. How destinies have changed for both since those goofy days. Mick Foley’s comments about the ferocity of the attack and its lack of meaning might be slightly misplaced.

Mick Foley Knows a Thing or Two About Chairs

The feud is running, and it is running deep. It is nothing new for a heel to use his lackeys as a human shield. Subjecting them to the assault while they skip out of town. Shankey was one of the men who carried McIntyre away from the Money in the Bank ladder match. While Mick Foley is correct, chair shots should be used sparingly in the days of concussions and dementia. However, the feud between Mahal and McIntyre is building, and could certainly be something epic.

Both men are former champions, both men want to have the gold again, and with the return of the WWE Universe to events, it’s only natural to ramp things up a little bit in the process. Mick Foley is a legend and there is no question, but on this occasion, his comments might not be completely valid. He has been there for some of the most violent matches wrestling have seen. While things have toned down in the interceding years, there is no denying that the current feud between Mahal and McIntyre is going to be hard-hitting.

Former WWE Doctor Recalls Sewing Up Mick Foley’s Mouth After HIAC Fall

It has been twenty-three years since the Undertaker dropped Mick Foley through the roof of Hell in a Cell. Yet it is still one of the most talked-about moments in WWE history. Talking in a recent interview with Wrestling Inc., a former WWE doctor has detailed the full extent of Mick Foley’s injuries.

Frank Romascavage was in the ring with Mick and was there to collect his teeth and sew up his mouth backstage at the event.

“I was in the ring. You’ll see me in that match. I’m in the ring there, and Mick, he got beat up. He was hurting big time. I said, “Mick, come on. We’re gonna get you through this.” I took him in the back in the locker room back there.”

Romascavage went on to talk about how Mick Foley was lucky that the accident occurred where it did, and not one of the many other venues WWE held events.

“You couldn’t be in a better place. The University of Pittsburgh has a 24/7 on-call orthodontic dental type program,” he explained. “I called up the dentists or the dental orthodontic guy, whoever was on call, and I said, “Do you like wrestling?” He says, “I love wrestling.”

Together they got Mick Foley patched up to the point he was still able to come back to the arena and interfere in the show’s main event match.

Mick Foley Cemented His Legacy with Hell in a Cell

Going into the Hell in a Cell match, Mick Foley was already a hardcore legend, but it was that moment that cemented his place in history. A moment that to this day is still costing him a lot of money in dental bills.

Talking recently to Steve Austin on Broken Skull sessions, Mick Foley admits he was lucky to survive his fall. Had he not been so tired and sold the chokeslam with the usual vigour he believes he would have met his end at that moment.

“But if I’d had the energy and I’d gone up for this chokeslam the way that I usually did, then you and I are not having this conversation. It’s the only time I take a bad chokeslam. Because of that, I don’t over-rotate and land on my head.”

Mick Foley Wants To Referee Jon Moxley vs Atsushi Onita

Atsushi Onita is bringing back FMW. His FMWE promotion is scheduled to run its first event on July 4th. Onita mentioned in an interview recently that he would love to wrestle a match with AEW’s Jon Moxley. Mick Foley has since spoken up to say that he would like to referee that match if it takes place.

During Onita’s interview with FanByte, he was told that Moxley now uses “Wild Thing” as his ring music, just as Onita had. This led to Onita saying he would like to wrestle Moxley.

“Jon Moxley uses my theme music?” Said Onita “Thank you, Moxley. I think if he has a spirit of JADO (evil ways), we might stand in the same ring some day. It would be interesting, wouldn’t it?”

Onita would also reveal what he hopes to accomplish with his new promotion.

“I want to show American fans my original explosion match. I sometimes feel like I have to. American deathmatch fans have been disappointed twice, first with the explosion deathmatch CZW held in 2017, and secondly AEW’s. At the time of the CZW show, maybe because of costs, CZW said ‘we don’t need Japanese engineers, don’t worry, leave it to us,’ and I believed them”

Mick Foley Believes Vader Should Be In WWE Hall Of Fame

Vader’s omission from the WWE Hall of Fame so far is puzzling for many. A rightful Hall of Famer himself, Mick Foley believes that the late star should definitely be inducted.

The hardcore legend was the latest guest on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions. He talked about a wide variety of topics during the interview.

Speaking of Vader not being included in the Hall of Fame so far, Foley claimed that it’s a ‘glaring omission’. The wrestling legend also explained that the late star, real name Leon White was a bigger draw than him:

“Leon, to me, is one of the glaring omissions from the Hall of Fame, worldwide he was one of the biggest drawing cards, bigger than me, for sure. Not in WWE but worldwide, for sure.

But if you didn’t fight him back, he’d eat you up.” said Mick Foley, “He was that wall, and you can knock down that wall but he was gonna make you work for it.”

The Attitude Era star also talked about his infamous Hell In A Cell match with The Undertaker and admitted that he was bothered by the fact that many fans only remember him for that particular bout.

However, Mick Foley revealed that a talk with the Dead Man changed his perspective on the matter. You can check out his comments about it at this link.

Mick Foley On What The Undertaker Told Him About Their Hell In A Cell Match

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley was the most recent guest on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions where he discussed his legendary Hell In A Cell match with The Undertaker from the 1998 King Of The Ring.

The Hardcore Legend first admitted that for the longest time he was sensitive towards the fact that people remembered him for the cell match more than anything else he did in his career.

However, his perspective changed after a conversation with the Undertaker where the Dead Man told the wrestling veteran that the memory of the match will outlive both of them:

“We start reminiscing and Taker looks at me — he still called me ‘Jack’ at the time, one of the last holdouts from my Cactus Jack days — ‘Jack, what you and I did that night will outlive us both. ‘

‘People will be talking about that match long after you and I are gone,’ it was almost like I feel this weight being lifted off my shoulders.”

Mick Foley mentioned how there have been many great workers in the industry who aren’t remembered for anything. He admitted that he is now grateful for having a number of moments people still talk about to this day:

“You know how many great workers there have been in our business who aren’t remembered for anything?

It’s like, now I have got not only this match but the title change with The Rock. I got a few things and it no longer bothers me that I’m asked about that match, almost every single day.”

Mick Foley also recalled how his brother usually showed WWE PPVs to their mother the next day but he didn’t show her the one featuring this brutal match. You can check out Foley’s comments in the video below:

Mick Foley Pushes For Vince McMahon To Create An All-Women’s Brand

Mick Foley has been a big supporter of women’s wrestling for years and is now making the call to WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon to make something special for the women’s division.

The WWE Hall of Famer took to Twitter to send a message to his former boss, which is to create an all-women’s brand in WWE. He also added some possible bragging rights to it as he mentioned that if McMahon doesn’t then AEW could beat him to it.

The Hardcore Legend wrote, “Dear Vince, An all women’s brand NEEDS to happen in @WWE Unless you want @AEW to beat you to the punch. Sincerely, Mick @VinceMcMahon.”

It should be noted that there’s been no talk of WWE creating an all-women’s brand, but perhaps, this suggestion made by the former WWE Champion could lead to it becoming a reality.

The closest thing to what Foley is pitching was the WWE Evolution pay-per-view, which was the first-ever women’s event under the WWE banner back on October 28, 2018, at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, in Uniondale, New York.

WWE hasn’t held a second show like this since but various stars including Sasha Banks have expressed support for WWE to do so.
