Mick Foley Talks About His Return, Who He Wants To Wrestle

Mick Foley appeared on Wrestling Voice Radio this week and spoke about returning to WWE last week at a live event from Dublin, Ireland.

When asked about why Foley chose an overseas house show for his big return, Foley said:

“The basic answer is because I just happened to be flying into Dublin the day they were there and my hotel was literally across the street. I called and asked if I could come hang out and it was a lot of fun.”

Foley was originally advertised November 14th RAW Supershow from Boston featuring The Rock’s return, but says he wasn’t surprised when WWE scrapped the idea and decided to keep the attention on The Rock that night.

Foley also said he probably has one big match left in him and named The Miz as the person he’d want to wrestle against.

Here’s audio of the interview:

Updates On JR vs. Michael Cole & Foley’s WWE Return

— The “Michael Cole challenge” match scheduled for RAW between Michael Cole and Jim Ross was bumped from the show due to time constraints. Jim Ross was indeed in Atlanta and tweeted the following after RAW:

“4 the record, I’m in Atlanta. Was informed by Raw GM’s office, my services weren’t needed. Cole wants 2 make fun of my 3 surgeries. Classy.”

Ross and Cole will wrestle on next week’s show, with the stipulation being that the winner remains a RAW announcer and the loser is off television for the foreseeable future.

— Despite Boston’s TD Garden website pulling Mick Foley from advertisements for the November 14th RAW Supershow featuring The Rock, local advertisements that aired last night in Boston
still said Foley would be appearing at that show – as a special guest referee.

Updates On Mick Foley’s WWE Return & Barry Windham

– As reported earlier, WWE is no longer advertising Mick Foley for the upcoming 11/14 three-hour Monday Night RAW in Boston.

Foley Still Waiting To Hear From WWE, Diva Featured In Maxim

— As reported earlier, WWE is no longer advertising Mick Foley for the November 14 Raw SuperShow at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. He has been removed from www.wwelivetour.com and www.tdgarden.com. Mick Foley claims in an interview published today that he has yet to hear from WWE regarding a possible return to the organization.

He told NewsDay.com, “Working a couple of days a week compared to all week is not problematic… Would not be a deal breaker at all. That’s assuming I get that phone call… I’m sure there’s a lot of people on that list. I might have to scale back on some things, but that would be OK.”

Maxim’s “Salute To The Military” issue, which hits newsstands next week, features a two-page spread on Kelly Kelly. The spread features a brief interview with Kelly regarding WWE’s annual Tribute to the Troops effort.

— G4 is airing a Tough Enough marathon today.

Mick Foley No Longer Advertised For 11/14 RAW

WWE will be holding another 3-hour episode of RAW in November – the week before Survivor Series.

The November 14th RAW Supershow will take place from Boston’s TD Garden and has been billed a “Rock Reunion.”

Aside from an in-person appearance from The Rock, the other major name advertised for the show was Mick Foley – who hasn’t appeared on WWE television since 2008.

The TD Garfden has updated their preview for the event – and not only is the show no longer billed as a “Rock Reunion” show – but Mick Foley is no longer advertised for the show.

It’s worth noting that The Rock is still advertised to appear. At this point, it’s unknown whether Foley has been completely pulled from the show or whether WWE wants to keep his appearance a surprise – but we’ll be looking into this.

CM Punk’s WWE Title Future, Early Plans For TLC, Mick Foley

– With Alberto Del Rio vs. CM Punk and Mark Henry vs. The Big Show in the works for Survivor Series – WWE is already looking to have rematches for both at the upcoming Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view.

While things can change, CM Punk is currently scheduled to win the WWE Championship some time this fall – prior to the December 26th RAW supershow from his hometown of Chicago, Illinois.

– Mick Foley is said to be looking great these days, with several readers who attended his comedy shows noting that he appears to have dropped a lot of weight.

Foley is currently scheduled to appear at the November 14th edition of WWE RAW from Boston (the show before Survivor Series) and will likely be at the following week’s show from Hershey, PA.

He likely won’t be at Survivor Series due to a previous charity commitment.

The belief is that Foley will become a regular on WWE television (in a non-wrestling capacity), beginning early next year.

Randy Savage & Another Legend Confirmed For “WWE ’12”

The December 2011 issue of WWE Magazine has an article highlighting ten features in THQ’s upcoming WWE ’12 video game and it is disclosed that “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Mick Foley will be playable characters via downloadable content pack.

The magazine states: “WWE ’12 boasts a WrestleMania-sized roster of icons that, for the first time ever, can be used by gamers right off the bat. Superstars such as Demolition, Ricky Steamboat, Kevin Nash and others are available initially: future downloadable greats will include the likes of Shawn Michaels, Randy Savage and Mick Foley. Oh yeah, and they’ll also offer alternate attire for Edge and Christian, a throwback to their late-’90s tag team heyday, just for the benefit of those with flash photography.”

THQ announced the first group of downloadable characters earlier this week: Shawn Michaels, Jerry Lawler, Jim Ross and Michael Cole.

HBK & Waltman’s WWE Futures, Foley’s Return, Ryder

– On Monday’s RAW,  Triple H talked about being betrayed by his longtime friend Kevin Nash – and name-dropped Shawn Michaels and Sean Waltman as their longtime friends in the business.

It was noted by some backstage that Triple H did not mention Scott Hall or Ric Flair because of their situations.

Regarding Waltman working with WWE again, most believe that he will be hired as some kind of agent for FCW once Triple H’s developmental changes are figured out and begin.

– WWE has confirmed on their website that Mick Foley will be appearing at the 3-hour edition of RAW (11/14) from Boston’s TD Garden.  Up until this week, only the TD Garden in Boston had announced Foley.

– The WWE Insider Twitter account noted last night that Zack Ryder tried to recover and help John Cena in the main event on RAW but WWE trainers wouldn’t clear him to compete.

In related Zack Ryder news, WWE has filed to trademark the term “Broski.” In the event that Zack Ryder leaves WWE at any point, he won’t be able to use the phrase elsewhere.

Mick Foley Talks WWE Return, His Stand-Up Comedy & More

Former WWE superstar Mick Foley recently appeared on the Live Audio Wrestling show. You can download an MP3 of the show by clicking here. Here are the higlights, courtesy of Chris Maffei:

How He Got Involved with Stand Up Comedy:

“I had done a lot of speaking at colleges where a lot of my stories were humorous, but because I was never billed as a comic, they didn’t have to be funny, that was just kind of like the icing on the cake. When I did make the foray into comedy, I realized that you can’t just go out there with some ideas, even if the ideas do lead to good stories. I had essentially shrugged off comedy as something that’d be too difficult to get good at. The challenge I really had was trying to get the same people who would willingly wait two hours in line for me to sit down in a comfortable club and listen to me tell stories and do comedy for the same amount of time and for the same price. There was a disconnect, like “Comedy? No, no, we like you in a wrestling venue,” even if it’s a signing that has to do with wrestling. It was really frustrating to me, and I honestly didn’t think I would have the capacity to overcome that. I thought it would take too much time and effort.”

Whether His Comedy Is Geared Towards Wrestling Fans:

“I try to make it inclusive for everybody, without alienating the people who do like me for wrestling, which is most of the people there. I want it to be entertaining for everybody. I use wrestling as my jumping off point to go to other topics, and I’m kinda using trial and error to figure out how to get back to wrestling, and how to weigh everything out. I like to think of wrestling like the best education ever, if you just travel around the world with your eyes and ears open. I share stories that I learned along the way, and things that I learned about people through wrestling. There are some really good stories that anybody could appreciate as long as they are willing to be open to seeing a wrestler tell them.”

Returning To WWE and Wrestling Again:

“First of all, I’d really have to start working out and conditioning. I should really do that now, in case some of these rumors turn out to be true. They’re all rumors that I started, by the way, so it’s nice to know that form of communication is still viable. I’m having fun, I think most people know I’m joking when I use the words, “I’ll show Hugh Jackman how it’s done when I show up as the SECRET special guest referee at Hell in a Cell,” and then about a minute later, “WHOOPS! Disregard that, I was trying to direct message Michael Cole. A lot of people took me seriously, and were disappointed when I wasn’t there, so I’m gonna try not to spread rumors. With that being said, I do think that I’ll be showing up in WWE sometime soon. Sometime.”

News On Mick Foley & JBL’s Rumored WWE Returns

It’s widely expected that former WWE superstar Mick Foley will be returning to the company in the next few weeks, with Foley himself even teasing his return in recent interviews and on twitter.

Video: Ric Flair & Mick Foley Hype Tonight’s Helms Benefit Show

Ric Flair and Mick Foley appeared on television this morning in Charlotte, North Carolina to promote tonight’s Shane Helms benefit comedy show. Check out this video of the two legends from this morning and below that is a press release with details regarding the show:

The following press release was issued regarding a fundraiser being held on behalf of former WWE talent Shane Helms this Wednesday at the Comedy Zone in Charlotte, North Carolina

Don’t miss out on Mick Foley’s Hurricane Assist Comedy show. The show is a Fundraiser for a great cause. And with the purchase of a ticket you get to see Mick Foley’s stand-up comedy performance along with comedian J Derrell, and get to participate in a FREE meet and greet with the legendary “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, The Rated R Superstar Edge, TNA star Gunner, LLUSA stars Reby Sky and Jayme Jameson, WCW star Lodi, Female Indy Sensation Amber O’Neal, the list keeps growing!!

Former WWE and TNA star Mick Foley asked for fan help with ticket sales for the Shane Helms fundraising event that will be held at the Charlotte Comedy Zone in Charlotte, N.C. on October 5.

“I originally saw this as a way for the wrestling community to help out one of our own during a time of need,” Foley said. “But a few weeks ago, Shane told me that he would like to take whatever money is raised and use it to produce an effective Public Service Announcement, which will likely help others avoid the pain and suffering, and loss of income that Shane had had to endure.

“He admitted that having his livelihood taken away from him has been, and will continue to be a financial strain, but really felt strongly about using whatever funds were raised to help others.”

Mick Foley Auctioning Lunch Over Survivor Series Weekend

Mick Foley is auctioning off tickets to the Survivor Series in New York City and lunch with the Hardcore Legend himself, with proceeds going to Hurricane Irene victims.

His latest blog has now been posted on RealMickFoley.com. Here’s an excerpt:

“Yes, I am setting up a pretty decent auction, with 100% (minus mailing costs) going to help out Vermonters suffering in the wake of flooding caused by Hurricane Irene. This might not be my very best stuff, like the Cactus Jack leopard boots and Hell in a Cell shirt, since that type of auction reminds me of Daffy Duck playing the harp, having emerged the victor in the big bump contest with Bugs Bunny – acknowledging Bugs’s accolades; sadly saying “I know, I know, but I can only do it once” on his way up to heaven. Still, this is going to be a good auction; it’s going to raise some money for some people who really need it, and it’s going to show the wrestling community in a favorable light – which is always important to me. With the exception of a couple of big items, like the Survivor Series vacation package, most of these items should come in under the $100 mark, making them a possibility for far more fans. Wait, check that – the historic Foley Juggalos ICP jersey I wore for this past Gathering might bring in some serious cash. One might have to be a Big Money Hustla just to get his/her hands on it! Yeah, I know, that was weak.”

— Big Show will be returning to WWE at tomorrow night’s SmackDown taping from Biloxy, MI. When the announcement was made on RAW, WWE announcers questioned what would happen when Big Show goes face to face with World Heavyweight champion Mark Henry.

Mark Henry said on RAW that Big Show’s return will be “short lived.”

Mick Foley Teases That He’ll The Mystery RAW GM

It’s been rumored for quite some time that hardcore wrestling legend Mick Foley is on his way back to WWE. Foley has been putting over WWE in recent interviews and even slipped up a few weeks ago on Twitter, teasing that he might appear at Sunday’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. The tweet was later deleted.

Foley dropped yet another hint this weekend that he’ll be at Hell in a Cell during a live chat he took part in at Reddit.com. Towards the end of the chat session, Foley wrote the following – a pretty strong implication that he’ll  be at Hell in a Cell

“I’m going to have to end this AMA chat in about 15 minutes..have to e-mail Michael Cole, and make my flight reservations for New orleans for Sunday. Wait, I didn’t mean to say that! Pay no attention to that man!”

Foley did not appear at Hell in a Cell as teased, but by saying he needs to email Michael Cole – could that be a hint that Mick Foley is the mystery RAW General Manager?

Foley Teases Appearance At HIAC, SmackDown Draws Poor Crowd

– Mick Foley teased during Monday’s Raw Superstar that he would appear at Hell in a Cell. He wrote on Twitter,

“Maybe I’ll show Jackman how it’s done when I show up as the secret guest ref in the Hell in a Cell, RIGHT there in New Orleans, Louisiana!”

He later acknowledged that his message was merely a joke:

“Ooops, pulled a Weiner there – that was supposed to be a DM to @michaelcole ! Just completely ignore my last message! Thanks for a fun Raw everyone – started 5 new rumors.”

– Tuesday’s SmackDown taping at Wright State University’s Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio drew a poor crowd as the entire side of the arena that WWE cameras were shooting from was completely tarped off. This is the second SmackDown taping in three weeks to garner lackluster attendance; almost all of the camera side for the September 6 event at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio was tarped off.

– The SmackDown live event for Sunday, November 13 in Lisbon, Portugal has been canceled. Meanwhile, matches pitting Mark Henry against Randy Orton are being advertised for the European tour.

Foley Launches Website, WWE Departures, Zombies vs. Wrestlers

– Mick Foley has launched his official website at RealMickFoley.com. Foley is expected to return to WWE in the coming months.

– Canadian independent wrestler Anthony Fiasco received a WWE tryout before the show in Ottawa this past week.

– A new horror film is in the works titled, “Zombies vs. Wrestlers” and will feature Shane Douglas in one of the starring roles. Zombies vs. Wrestlers is said to be a “serious horror movie” and not satire. Douglas is also listed as a producer for the film, which is currently seeking additional funding.

– There have reportedly been several departures from WWE in recent weeks, including:

  • Joel Satin (Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis)
  • Jen Bloodsworth (former NXT head writer and WWE website contributor)
  • Mack Hetfield (developmental wrestler at FCW).

Mick Foley Thinks He’ll Be Working For WWE Soon & Talks TNA

Wrestling legend Mick Foley was recently interviewed by Josh Stewart of AsTheWorldTurnsLeft.com spoke about his Here are some highlights of what Foley said about:

Whether TNA Is Really Profitable:

“I was never close enough to know anything more than you guys in the media would know. I do think they had a really profitable year in 2009, and then I heard they may have overspent. But Bob Carter said something very prophetic to Dusty Rhodes when I asked Dusty about the status of the company. He said, ‘Until I close the doors, it’s not a loss, it’s an investment.’ So, I’m glad they’re around, I really wish them the very best, it was a very good place for me to go for a few years. I didn’t see eye-to-eye with them on a lot of things, but I certainly enjoyed most of my time there.”

His Main Complaint With TNA:

“My main criticism of theirs is one that I had all along and that I expressed freely with the company, that they tried to pack too many things in every show. And at the end of the show it’s really hard for fans to see anything as really important.”

When He’ll Be Working With WWE Again:

“I’m almost sure that we’ll be working in some respect fairly soon. It’s a really good company with a really large infrastructure that offers ways for guys like me to help out that aren’t related to helping out on the TV shows.”

What His Role In WWE Will Be:

“There could be several roles. I have to do some thinking about how involved I want to get, how many days away I want to spend and whether I want my involvement to be completely off-screen. But I’m excited about working with WWE in the near future.”

There’s much more to the interview, including video from one of Mick Foley’s recent stand-up comedy routines, which you can check out at AsTheWorldTurnsLeft.com.

ESPN Covers Mick Foley, Three WWE Stars Return To TV

— Mason Ryan returned to television at tonight’s WWE Superstars taping in Columbus, Ohio as he competed in a match against JTG. The Welsh grappler resumed competing at live events two weeks ago after being sidelined since late June due to an undisclosed injury.

The taping also saw the return of Tyler Reks and Percy Watson to television. Reks, teaming with Curt Hawkins, squared off against Percy Watson and NXT contestant Titus O’Neil. Reks and Hawkins would later appear on Raw Supershow during a backstage segment with Alberto Del Rio.

— Drew McIntyre beat Primo via Future Shock in a dark match.

— ESPN.com published an article on Mick Foley’s recent stand-up comedy appearance at The Brokerage Comedy Club in Bellmore, New York. ESPN mentioned some of his comedy bits and noted “He started the comedy journey 2 1/2 years ago, but took a long layoff while working for TNA Wrestling. Now a free agent, he’s focused on finding the same confidence in comedy that made him a squared-circle icon.”

The article is available here.

Foley Says He Wanted To Appear On WWE TV While With TNA

Mick Foley appeared on Monday Night Mayhem, which airs every Monday at 7:00 p.m. via MondayNightMayhem.com. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

How close we were to seeing a match between himself and Hulk Hogan in TNA, whether or not he has any regrets on how his TNA career came to a close, and why he felt that an appearance on WWE television for The Rock’s birthday would have been beneficial for everyone involved: “The match with Hulk Hogan could have happened if I hadn’t tweeted about the Empty Arena Match. “I wouldn’t have sent out that tweet. I put them through quite a bit actually. I didn’t think anything of it when I called Terry Taylor, asking if I could show up on Raw for The Rock’s birthday. Think about that question and what that does to the company. That’s a tough thing to handle. My thing was if I was going to show up and be ‘the network guy’ in three days, why not do it with a higher profile than I’ve had since I’ve been here. Everyone benefits. I wish we could have done business on the way out, so that I could have helped out on the X-Division Pay-Per-View (Destination X). It was very anti-climatic television to just read a note that I was fired two weeks after I started the job.”

Why he has decided to spearhead the effort for a Shane Helms Benefit Show this October in Charlotte and the message they are hoping fans take away from it: “Velvet Sky started raising some money for Shane, because essentially he’s a guy who had his livelihood taken away from him for a year, maybe more. From what I hear, the crash was really horrific. So I asked The Hurricane how he felt about doing a benefit show, a comedy show in Charlotte (at The Comedy Zone), and he said he was for it. I was willing to do it. A few days ago I heard from Shane, and he had what I thought was a great idea that he wanted to take the money we raise that night and make a really good public service announcement that might help other people. I do not want to put words in his mouth, but I think he wants to do something above and beyond helping himself that can help out other people.”

Why a potential return to the WWE is intriguing for him right now at this point in time in his personal and professional career: The charity stuff is emotionally rewarding. It’s not financially rewarding. My wife has made it kind of clear that my days of donated 100% of book sales needs to come to an end. In this economic environment, you really have go out and make some money as long as there is some demand for what you do. I think being with the WWE would help me out in these endeavors I do. I think they did a great job of keeping me relevant for years through the miracle of DVD’s, action figures, and appearances on their show, so I think they can help me in these pursuits. I also think there a lot of ways I can help out, whether it be with younger wrestlers, as an ambassador, or appearing on the TV show once in a while. Without knocking TNA or iMPACT Wrestling, because I did enjoy a lot of my time there, WWE has more ways guys can make a contribution that doesn’t include being a major part of their TV show.”

If the thought of a WWE Hall of Fame induction has gone through his mind since deciding to depart TNA and the perfect time/spot he envisions that moment to happen: “It actually started going through my mind. I wrote about this in the bonus chapter in ‘Countdown to Lockdown.’ I said the moment the WWE mentioned my book on the air, any misgivings or feelings I had just vanished. I started thinking about the (WWE) Hall of Fame and how it would be a big deal to my kids, and if they wanted me to do it, I’ll do it. In a perfect world, I would get inducted in The Garden (MSG) in 2013. I’ll be willing to stay of TV until 2013 just to get inducted there, but what I might do is John Laurinaitis and ask if I could do a house show, just so I could hear my music and get a pop.”

Foley Addresses Return Rumors, MITB Buy Number Erroneous

— Mick Foley posted a blog regarding his experience at the “Gathering of the Juggalos” earlier this month and addressing rumors of a potential return to WWE. Foley wrote:

“As I mentioned, there’s this rumor out there that I might be returning to WWE sometime soon, and if the rumor proves to be true, my chances of returning to this one-of-a-kind atmosphere in 2012 will be dramatically reduced.”

— Based on the graph WWE released for pay-per-view buys in their latest key indicator, Money in the Bank was listed as 265,000 buys. However, another breakdown in the estimates lists July pay-per-view purchases at 185,000. The other buys incorporated into the graph are being credited to WrestleMania XXVII, which came in after the last key indicator was released.

— The Miz appears at Walmart 1105 Wellington Rd S., London, Ontario, Canada on Saturday, Sept. 12 beginning at noon. Call 519-681-7500 for more information.
