Mick Foley Fired As RAW General Manager

The opening segment of Monday’s RAW saw RAW commissioner Stephanie McMahon fire General Manager Mick Foley. Foley’s to oust Stephanie last week came back to bite him and he’s now out of work after serving as RAW GM since the brand split last summer.

It’s been rumored for months that Mick Foley would be taking time off to undergo hip surgery and this appears to be the storyline explanation for his hiatus. With less than two weeks until WrestleMania 33, Monday Night RAW is without a General Manger.

Foley thanked the WWE Universe for the opportunity to help run WWE RAW each week.

Holy Foley Not Returning to for Season 2?

Mick Foley appeared on Lillian Garcia’s podcast yesterday. During the course of his interview he revealed that he doesn’t believe Holy Foley will be returning for a second season the WWE Network.

    Notes from the show:

    • Foley claims he is the first person to ever be put on Chris Jericho’s “list”. According to Foley, Jericho was annoyed with him back in catering and Jericho grabbed a notebook away from someone and made Foley the inaugural person on his list. Foley would also say that he told everyone Jericho would get that over in 3 weeks.
    • Foley would also say that he is given creative control with his character, and that WWE has been very good in that regards.
    • He mentioned that he pushed for James Ellesworth to be signed, saying he would be perfect for television. He also noted that Ellesworth bought him a tie.
    • Additionally he said that he makes less money working for WWE than he would if he was doing his one-man shows or taking other bookings. He believes it is an important job however, and is given a chance to have his creative input into the direction of the show.
    • On Holy Foley: “Personally I don’t think there will be a season 2”. Foley noted the show is expensive to make.

  • Mick Foley Releasing New Book In Late 2017

Mick Foley Releasing New Book In Late 2017

A new book from Mick Foley will be hitting shelves later this year. The WWE Hall of Famer and bestselling author is working on Saint Mick, which is scheduled to be released in time for Christmas 2017.

The book takes readers inside the world of people who play Santa Claus around the holiday season, and inside Mick’s increasing Santa-related work since retiring from wrestling.

Foley’s work has placed on the New York Times bestsellers list multiple times, and he’s best known for his ongoing series of memoirs which he writes without the aid of a ghostwriter.

Polis Books issued the below press release this weekend:

SAINT MICK by #1 New York Times bestselling author and WWE Hall-of-Famer Mick Foley to be published Holiday 2017 by Polis Books
Polis Books is proud to announce the upcoming publication of Saint Mick by beloved author and wrestler Mick Foley. Jason Pinter at Polis acquired World rights for publication in October 2017. Featuring many never-before-seen photos, Saint Mick is part jolly memoir, part whimsical ode to a lifetime love affair with Christmas, and part tribute to the power of finding the best part of oneself in the unlikeliest of places. After a lifetime of putting his body on the line to entertain his dozens (and dozens!) of fans, the Hardcore Legend is paying the price—physically and emotionally. When the final bell on Mick’s career tolls—in a neurologist’s office rather than the ring—the future is far from merry and bright. Until hope and redemption come when Mick is given the chance to become Santa Claus—not dress up, not pretend, but become Santa.

Mick takes us inside the secret world of the Santa subculture, where “real-bearded Santas” and “traditional” or “mystical” Santas are often at odds as to who makes the better red-suited ambassadors. Along the way, Mick worries that he will be excommunicated from the Santa world for everything from his Santa character being run over on Christmas Eve on television, his intentional breaking of “The Santa Claus Oath” by promising toys to families in need, to his participation in a controversial Santa Claus documentary. Mick learns valuable lessons about the real power and responsibility of the red suit, and that success as Santa comes not by appearing in front of millions on TV, but by touching hearts and creating “Santa moments” for the young and the young at heart.

Mick Foley is a #1 New York Times bestselling author, a WWE Hall of Famer, and the author of numerous books for children. He has appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Good Morning America, Fox News, and The Today Show. He was featured in a story on ABC’s World News Tonight for his work as an online volunteer with RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization. Foley was also recognized for his work with RAINN at the famous “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear” – where he was awarded the Medal of Reasonableness from Daily Show host Jon Stewart. • Mick Foley Talks About Jimmy Snuka’s Influence On His Career

Mick Foley Talks About Jimmy Snuka’s Influence On His Career

RAW General Manager Mick Foley recently appeared on Jim Ross’ Ross Report podcast and spoke at length about the passing of “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and the impact Snuka had on his career.

“I came around to what Bruce Springsteen had said, which was trust the art, not the artist. And so, by doing that, you allow yourself to watch the films of an actor who may have been abusive to children. And he was a kind and gentle man. I mean, ultimately, there is a harsher judge, I really believe, than the internet. And if Jimmy did what was alleged, you hope the kindness he showed towards people for decades and the love he had for his family outweigh that incident in the final picture.”

Foley said he likely wouldn’t be a wrestler if not for Snuka’s inspiration.

“Without Jimmy, there’s no me. There’s a me, there’s a Mick Foley, doing something somewhere, but that feeling being brought out of me, being in the Garden and feeling the emotion. And then, having this moment in time captured that I remember as clearly today as when it took place over 30 years ago. And know that I wanted to make people feel that same way, I don’t know if, as much as I loved the [professional] wrestling business or just the wrestling show, I didn’t know it was a business at the time, I don’t know if there’s anything else that would have made me feel that way.”

Tamina thanked Mick for talking about seeing Snuka leap from the top of the steel cage at Madison Square Garden during his interview as Mankind with ‘J.R.’.

“It was ’97 when [Ross] and I did that interview that changed things around for me, especially in the way Mr. McMahon saw me in the company. And that was when I got to talk publicly about that match and what it meant for me. And WWE went and found the footage of me as an 18 year old in the audience. And I believe, that was the first time I would meet Tamina shortly after that. She thanked me because they felt that it had done a lot for her dad in terms of bookings, in terms of, yeah, awareness, and getting that buzz.”

Kevin Owens was on Off The Top Rope on ESPN recently and was a part of the “One Word” segment. Owens was asked by Jonathan Coachman to give one word about Goldberg and Owens chose “enemy”. Owens’ reasoning was that he grew up a die-hard WWE fan and that Goldberg was the biggest name in WCW at the time. Owens also attributed the word “uselss” to internet trolls. Mick Foley posted his thoughts on the match between Kenny Omega and Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 11. Foley described the match as one of the greatest he has ever seen and encouraged people to make an effort to watch it.

    • Honorary WWE Superstar Drax Shadow Passes Away
  • Monday Night Raw Blooper: Google Screen Appears Instead Of Stephanie McMahon’s Entrance Video

Last night on Raw, GM Mick Foley, Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho were having an argument in the ring. Owens was complaining about having to defend his Universal Championship against Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble. Chris Jericho was complaining that he had to be locked in a shark tank and suspended above the ring during that match. Jericho referred to himself as a “sexy piñata” and thought Foley was abusing his power as the general manager of Monday Night Raw. Finally, Stephanie McMahon had seen enough and stormed to the ring. However, her entrance video didn’t play on the jumbotron. Instead, a gigantic Google home screen appeared for a few seconds before someone caught it. Kevin Owens noticed it right away.

I would consider this a crisis averted. The person that made this mistake could have been Googling something not appropriate for PG television. Better yet, they could have been Googling “when the hell is Emmalina going to show up on Monday Night Raw?”.

Mick Foley Tells Fans Not To Set Up Crowdfunding For His Surgery, Fan Does It Anyway

As noted before at this link, RAW GM Mick Foley announced on Facebook this week that he needs a $60,000 hip replacement surgery but the operation is up in the air after his health insurance provider dropped him this year.

Foley asked fans via Twitter not to set up any crowdfunding campaigns to help pay for his surgery, asking them to instead donate to groups who truly need assistance. Foley wrote:

    https://twitter.com/RealMickFoley/status/814201756536152065

To no surprise, a fan named Abby set up a GoFundMe campaign for Foley’s surgery. The campaign was up to $600 at one point but it appears all donations have been refunded. You can see the campaign at this link and read about how Foley helped the 14 year old raise money during her own “Abby’s Million Dollar Dream” campaign for cancer research a few years ago. The young fan just felt the need to help Foley after he previously helped her but it appears Foley got in touch and asked her to kill the campaign. Foley commented on the campaign that was created:

  • Discussion: Do You Prefer The Authority Figures On Raw Or Smackdown?

Discussion: Do You Prefer The Authority Figures On Raw Or Smackdown?

On Monday Night Raw, the GM is Mick Foley and the Commissioner is Stephanie McMahon. Foley has played a big role in the Sami Zayn and Braun Strowman storyline so far. He even got involved in their match at Roadblock by coming out with a white towel and Zayn had to beg him to not stop the match. Foley is also hated by Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens. Last week on Raw, Foley locked Jericho in a shark cage and had him suspended above the ring.

Foley was on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, thus Stephanie McMahon ran the show. She opened up Raw on Monday by taunting the Chicago audience. Throughout the episode, Stephanie was a part of several backstage segments and even asked Braun Strowman to destroy Seth Rollins in their match later on the show. Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley will clearly have a power struggle in time and they have already teased that since the brand split.

On Smackdown, Shane McMahon is the Commissioner and Daniel Bryan serves as the GM. Daniel Bryan has stayed out of most storylines but has certainly called out his fair share of Superstars. Daniel Bryan called out Alexa Bliss in a backstage segment and claimed that she was faking an injury to avoid competing. However, most of Daniel Bryan’s interactions with Superstars on the Smackdown roster take place on Talking Smack. The Miz and Daniel Bryan hate each other on Smackdown. The Miz often mocks Bryan during his matches by performing his moves and doing the “yes!” chant. Even though Daniel Bryan was a guest on Miz TV on Smackdown, most of their confrontations have happened on Talking Smack. The same can be said about Baron Corbin. Corbin has been on Talking Smack a few times and has complained to Daniel Bryan about how he is being used on the show.

Shane McMahon may not have as much screen time as Daniel Bryan, but he certainly has been involved in the show. He joined Team Smackdown for Survivor Series and wrestled in the men’s 5 vs 5 match. As of late, Shane McMahon hasn’t come down to the ring too many times. He has been in a bunch of quick backstage segments interacting with Superstars on the roster. Most of the time, Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon are only in brief backstage segments throughout the night.

Discussion: On Raw, the authority figures are a major part of the show. Stephanie McMahon opened up Raw this week and was in several more backstage segments. Triple H may wind up returning soon and that will make things even more crowded. Neither Daniel Bryan or Shane McMahon were on Smackdown last night. Do you find the show more compelling if the Superstars are constantly battling management or have you grown tired of that storyline? Do you enjoy the way management is presented on Raw or Smackdown? • Mick Foley Confirms Need For Hip Replacement, Says He Has No Health Insurance

Mick Foley Confirms Need For Hip Replacement, Says He Has No Health Insurance

RAW GM Mick Foley confirmed on Facebook today that he needs a hip replacement but he’s facing one major problem – his insurance provider dropped him this past year. Foley says he’s looking to get insured for 2017 but nothing is guaranteed and he can’t afford to pay out of pocket for the $60,000 operation right now. Foley also reveals that he’s currently on a hand-shake deal with WWE for his RAW GM work and the WWE Legends deal he’s signed to is only for merchandise.

Check out Foley’s full post below with more details on his situation:

    ABOUT THAT HIP OPERATION

I guess I should’ve said something when I started getting prayers and well wishes from friends and colleagues alike – including some of the biggest names in the business. I have definitely mentioned that I needed a hip replacement, definitely mentioned that I intended to get one sometime early in 2017, but never actually set a date. I have this little tiny problem in that I don’t actually have health insurance.

I had health insurance for 26 years, but the last four years have been tough – with companies sending out letters telling me they will no longer be insuring families, and that I needed to find alternate insurance. By 2016 health insurance was particularly confusing, and after missing one payment, I found myself no longer insured. I am doing my best to be insured in 2017, but nothing is guaranteed, and I have no idea how this new insurance company will feel about replacing a hip that clearly should’ve been replaced many years ago.

For those wondering why the general manager of Raw needs to procure his own health insurance: well, I’m on a handshake deal. I do the job as long as I enjoy it and feel like I am making a difference, and I do it as long as WWE is happy with me and thinks I’m the best person for the role. No contract involved at all, except for the legends deal, which is strictly about merchandise. For those wondering why I just don’t pay out-of-pocket, well it’s a $60,000 operation, and I am going to look at some other options before I shell out 60K for an operation. Maybe I will concentrate on landing a couple of TV or film roles and get the far superior AFTRA insurance to take care of the operation. I probably should not be talking about it at all – but the word is out there, and I feel like I owe people an explanation.

Luckily, I am used to the constant pain – and it’s not like I wasn’t warned by almost every guy in the wrestling business that the moves I was doing as a younger man were going to come back to haunt me. Well, they’re haunting me! The weight-loss has helped considerably; without it, and the DDP yoga, I don’t believe I could even get through airports. But the constant travel means constant pain. I love being the Raw GM, and I will miss it when it’s gone. But my quality of life will probably improve when Stephanie and WWE decide to go in a new direction.

Thank you for your prayers and concern. I am coming off an amazing December, during which I created some memories that I know I will hold onto for a lifetime. I know a lot of people don’t get my whole Santa thing. I can only tell you that when that red suit goes on, the very best part of me comes out, and I do some things I am very proud of each December. I had wanted most of December off, but I had made a commitment to the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital, and it meant a lot to me to fulfill that commitment. Then Mr. McMahon said something to me about a shark cage in question with Chris Jericho suspended above it, and I knew I had to be at that Raw. I missed Monday’s raw. I should be back for almost every episode until that moment comes when/if the company decides to go in a different direction. If they do, I will simply be grateful for every single day I had a chance to go out and try to make a difference. Some nights I was more successful than others. But deep down I think the superstars in the back know I was doing my best to look out for them – and they know that has not always the case when it comes to the people who fill these roles.

With or without a new hip I’m going to lead a good life. The medical sciences out there to help me lead a life with far less pain. I hope that I am given the opportunity to take advantage of the new technology. Maybe some enterprising orthopedic specialist can think outside the box and look at me as a potential poster-boy for their services. If The Rock can sell tires, then I have to believe I can sell hip replacements.

    Have a nice day.

Mick Foley Working With Chyna’s Mother To Gain Control Of Her Estate

WWE RAW General manager Mick Foley announced on Facebook that he’s working with Chyna’s mother to gain control of her daughter’s estate, or at least what’s left of it. Chyna passed away back in April of this year.

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley wrote on Facebook how he’s helping Joanie “Chyna” Laurer’s mother gain control of her estate. The two had been estranged but became close before Chyna passed away on April 20 of this year.

Foley said funds are limited but provided a link to where fans can help. Below is his full post:

    PEACE FOR CHYNA

I had a nice talk with Joanie Laurer’s mom yesterday. While Joanie had been estranged from her mother for much of her adult life, including the entirety of her WWE run, the two eventually made peace and had become quite close by the end of Joanie’s life. Joanie’s mom is attempting to gain control of her daughter’s estate – but is trying to do it on a very limited budget, and the legal costs are more than she can handle. Don’t be fooled by the word “estate” – there is not a lot of money left, if any. But Chyna’s mom is attempting to do the right thing by allowing whatever personal effects she did leave behind to stay with the family and not with her manager, so that her family may finally be at peace with her loss. Whatever help you can give will be much appreciated. https://www.gofundme.com/discover/other-fundraiser
