Mick Foley Responds To Claims Of Seth Rollins Being Unsafe

RAW General Manager Mick Foley has posted a blog on Facebook addressing claims that Seth Rollins is unsafe in the ring. Foley believes Rollins is one of the very elite wrestlers of his era, an amazing athlete, and a credit to the business.

With Rollins injuring the likes of John Cena, Sting and Finn Balor, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart has said somebody could get killed if Seth doesn’t start protecting his opponents better. Foley has nothing but respect for Bret and stated outright that he doesn’t want to get into a social media war with him. That said, he considers Bret’s opinion to be very influencial and wants to make sure Rollins is not branded as an unsafe worker.

Regarding Seth breaking John Cena’s nose on RAW last summer, Foley thinks that was simply an accident. He says Rollins effectively ending Sting’s career last year with two “turnbuckle bombs” wasn’t anybody’s fault, but referenced Sting’s age by stating it “may have been a case of trying to push back the hands of time a little too far, a little too fast.” As for Finn Balor’s injury at SummerSlam, Foley says the “buckle bomb” leaves very little room for mistakes and Seth felt great remorse for his involvement in Finn’s injury. Foley wrote:

“Sometimes, injuries just happen. It’s part of what we do. Seth Rollins is a safe wrestler. He works an intense, highly physical style, as do most of the WWE Superstars. Those moves look good for a reason; there’s a sense of realism to so many of them – a realism that is absolutely necessary in today’s day and age. When I was growing up as a WWE fan, we received two hourlong shows comprised almost entirely of one-sided matches. Current fans see good, and often great matches on a weekly basis and today’s WWE Superstars sacrifice their bodies, week in and week out in their effort to excite, excel and entertain. Seth Rollins embodies this spirit. He deserves to be remembered for his dedication to his craft, and for his willingness to go above and beyond to participate in great matches for WWE fans around the world. That’s the Seth Rollins I think people should know – the real guy, not the rep!”

  • Bad Sign For This Week’s RAW Viewership, Foley Working On Another Book, More

Bad Sign For This Week’s RAW Viewership, Foley Working On Another Book, More

    – The viewership for last night’s RAW should be very interesting when it comes out later today as last night’s US Presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton drew a 46.2 overnight rating with a 63 share, up 17% from the Mitt Romney – Barack Obama debate in 2012. In comparison, Super Bowl 50 had a 46.6 rating with a 72 share and drew 111 million viewers.

    – The WWE Clash of Champions PPV ranked #1 in Nielsen’s social media ratings on Sunday. The event had 183,000 Twitter interactions with 32,000 unique authors, down from the 282,000 Twitter interactions and 44,000 unique authors that Backlash drew. The Clash also had 251,000 Facebook interactions with 151,000 unique authors, down from the 278,000 interactions with 144,000 unique authors that Backlash drew.

    – WWE RAW General Manager Mick Foley announced on Tuesday that he’s working on a new book about his life outside WWE. He wrote on Facebook:

“I have been working on a new memoir about my experiences in the red suit as one of Santa’s ambassadors. It’s been a fun and rewarding project, being written only in places where Christmas spirit lives all year round. So, unlike past books, I’m not writing on airplanes, locker rooms, hotels or emergency rooms. Just places like Jefferson, New Hampshire’s “Santa’s Village”, where I did some writing in Santa’s house in the original 1953 rocking chairs from the park’s opening. This past week, I made it to Indianapolis for #ClashOfChampions by way of #SantaClaus Indiana, where I wrote from #SantasCandyCastle the 1935 landmark believed to be America’s oldest themed attraction, and from the very spot where Santa Claus first greeted guests at #HolidayWorld originally known as #SantaClausLand when the park opened 70 years ago.

I am not under the impression that this is going to be a big seller by any means – so it’s something I’m doing just for fun, because it is important to me. It’s not going to be controversial. I won’t be slinging any dirt or making anybody look bad . But there will be a surprising amount of wrestling in this book – as everything I have learned in life revolves around sports entertainment.

Who’s going to be adding this book to their Christmas wish list in 2017.”

Foley Tells Critics Of Sheamus & Cesaro Finish To “Kiss My Arse”

The crowd in Indianapolis, IN didn’t sound pleased last night at the ending of Sheamus and Cesaro’s Best of 7 series at the Clash Of Champions pay-per-view. The match would have been the tiebreaker in the 3-3 series, but the referee deemed it a no-contest after a couple big bumps outside the ring. RAW personality Mick Foley took a moment on Twitter last night after the PPV to call out the fans who weren’t pleased with the result.

“Anyone claiming to be a wrestling fan, complaining about the finish of @WWESheamus @WWECesaro needs to take a moment to kiss my arse,” Foley wrote.

Foley praised Sheamus and Cesaro’s work last night while the show was still on the air, writing that he was impressed with the match not as the RAW GM but as a fan.

Mick Foley Interested In Bringing The Miz To RAW, Brandi Rhodes’ Training Video, More

Over the weekend we covered the story of The Miz potentially jumping from SmackDown to RAW. As per WWE storyline, the Intercontinental champion had a contractual dispute with SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan and is teasing that he wants to switch brands.

    https://twitter.com/mikethemiz/status/777224803413393409

Daniel Bryan tweeted that The Miz’s demands are “utterly delusional,” but it sounds like RAW General Manager Mick Foley recognizes The Miz’s value and would welcome him (and his Intercontinental Championship) with open arms.

Brandi Rhodes tweeted this footage of her in-ring training. The former WWE ring announcer recently signed with TNA Wrestling and is joining the Knockouts division in the near future.

  • Mick Foley Calls Out Daniel Bryan For Using James Ellsworth On SmackDown

Mick Foley Calls Out Daniel Bryan For Using James Ellsworth On SmackDown

RAW General Manager Mick Foley is not happy that Daniel Bryan booked James Ellsworth for a match on this week’s SmackDown. Ellsworth gained some popularity as somewhat of a cult figure amongst the WWE Universe after getting squashed by Braun Strowman on RAW back in July. Bryan named Ellsworth as WWE Champion AJ Styles’ tag team partner against John Cena and Dean Ambrose. Ellsworth was attacked before he could make it to the ring, but Foley says Bryan set a dangerous precedent by ‘raiding’ the RAW roster.

Foley has a pretty amazing idea regarding how Bryan can rectify the situation. Here’s Mick Foley’s open to SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan, via Foley’s Facebook page:

    “Dear Daniel,

I am a James Ellsworth guy. But James Ellsworth is a #Raw guy – and now YOU have messed with the wrong guy! By raiding Monday Night Raw for Superstars like James Ellsworth, you are setting a dangerous precedent, my friend. More seriously, you risk confusing the #WWEUniverse, especially the little Ellsters out there, who have been waiting for me to sign #EllmoreVsStrohman2 for an upcoming #Raw PPV. Shame on you, Daniel…shame on you!

There is, however a way out of this situation. How about if you and Mauro Ranallo come to Raw on Monday to call our #Cruiserweight matches on Raw? We’ll call it even and hope the Little Ellsters out there understand.

    Sincerely,

    Mick Foley”

Last night during the Cruiserweight Classic, Foley gushed over Daniel Bryan and Mauro Ranallo’s commentary, publicly questioning if they’d be interested in doing commentary for the new Cruiserweight division on RAW.

  • Mick Foley Looks Back On The Evolution Of His Relationship With Stephanie McMahon

Mick Foley Looks Back On The Evolution Of His Relationship With Stephanie McMahon

RAW General Manager Mick Foley’s latest Facebook post looks at his road back to WWE and his longterm relationship with his boss, Commissioner Stephanie McMahon. Foley reveals that he actually met Stephanie McMahon backstage after his infamous Hell in a Cell 1998 match against The Undertaker. During the Attitude Era, he saw her evolve from “the girl with the shy smile” to the corporate executive we know today. Foley wrote:

“Stephanie will sometimes mention that she plays’ a bad guy on TV. I don’t think she’s playing. I think she has that rare ability to inhabit a character, to the point where she becomes it – so that when she’s good, she’s really good; but when she’s bad she’s even better.

The opening to #Raw on Monday felt important to both of us. For me, it was powerful, almost magical – the type of thing that made what had previously seemed like a random selection as GM in the minds of many fans suddenly make perfect sense. The type of thing that gets me excited about the future, might encourage WWE Superstars to take risks with their characters and spark new ideas among the creative team. It’s the type of thing that makes me glad I’m not sitting on my couch every Monday, watching someone else as GM, wondering “what if”.

Mick Foley On Why Vince Wanted Holy Foley, Matt Hardy Comments On Foley Error

    – In a new interview on WWE.com, Mick Foley and his daughter Noelle talk about their WWE Network series Holy Foley and it’s future. Foley reveals that Vince McMahon seeing the chemistry between Mick and Noelle in another video is what lead to the show, and that the series helped his relationship with the company and lead to his role as the GM of RAW. The former WWE World Champion says he would love to do another season if the demand for it is there.

    – Speaking of Foley, he made an error in a Tweet he sent out to promote his appearance at Sunday’s Days Of The Dead Horror Convention in Kentucky. Instead of Tweeting the poster for the event, Mick accidentally sent out the poster for TNA’s “Delete or Decay” segment with Matt Hardy. This prompted “Broken” Matt Hardy to reply to “Brother Francis.”

  • Mick Foley On RAW’s Conclusion: What Just Happened?

Mick Foley On RAW’s Conclusion: What Just Happened?

WWE RAW General Manager Mick Foley was ringside for last night’s Fatal 4 Way main event and even he is scratching his head asking, “WHAT JUST HAPPENED?”

In his latest post on Facebook, Foley says he will get into the how’s, why’s and what’s another time, but for now, he wants to share four takeaways from last night’s show:

    1) Despite Triple H’s help, Kevin Owens is a very deserving Universal champion.

    2) The color of the #UniversalChampionship really did not mean anything to any of the four guys in the ring last night, and still strikes me as an incredibly silly thing for fans to have been upset about during#SummerSlam

    3) Big Cass wrestled the match of his life and didn’t seem out of place AT ALL in a huge main event. This guy is going to be a BIG player in #WWEfor a long time.

    4) I really like watching matches from ringside. Remember, I used to hitchhike and take buses and trains to get to Madison Square Garden. Now I get paid to be a fan!

Mick Foley is also wondering if Triple H acted alone. Stephanie McMahon emphatically denies having anything to do with her husband’s actions. But her thirst for power and track record as one half of The Authority puts that claim into question.

  • Mick Foley Speaks On Criticizing Women In WWE, If He Still Talks To The Rock

Mick Foley Speaks On Criticizing Women In WWE, If He Still Talks To The Rock

One of Mick Foley’s most infamous on-screen opponents and partners was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Foley gave some insight on his relationship with the wrestler-turned-movie star.

“What’s funny is our daughters keep in better touch than we do. Like I’ll hear my daughter say, ‘The Rock’s going to be on Raw today,’ and it’s a complete secret. ‘His daughter just texted me.’ I get a message from him every once in awhile,” Foley said.

Foley also revealed that he was in attendance at the 13th birthday party of the mother of The Rock’s child. When he first met Johnson’s girlfriend as an adult he didn’t recognize her, but she explained their history to him.

Foley officially retired from in-ring action in 2012, but feels his influence still holds some weight in WWE. The former World Champion is known for voicing his opinions on his Facebook page, and knows that some of those things were shown to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

“I think Mr. McMahon was only shown the negative things I wrote,” Foley said. “I don’t think they showed him the other 92.5 percent of nice things I was saying. He knew I was critical but it was always constructive criticism, and when I came on board, Stephanie and I agreed that as the big proponents of the women’s wrestling evolution that we needed to draft the women very high for Raw, so we drafted Charlotte second and then Sasha Banks sixth. We are really excited about the women’s division. Moving forward, it’s going to get bigger and better.”

Foley also talks about his daughter’s pro wrestling aspirations and more in his Rolling Stone interview, which you can read in it’s entirety here.

WWE has confirmed that Finn Balor will relinquish his newly-won WWE Universal Title on tonight’s RAW from Brooklyn.

Mick Foley Blasts “Smart Fans” At SummerSlam Over Universal Title Backlash

WWE RAW General Manager Mick Foley is not happy about the fan backlash last night at SummerSlam, venting that a small percentage of “smart” fans disrupted the show and disrespected the competitors fighting for the Universal Championship.

Foley shared his thoughts in his latest Facebook post, “There are so many times when WWE fans act in a way that makes me proud. Last night was not one of them. Last night, that vocal minority in attendance – who thought their clever chants about their displeasure toward the aesthetic design of a FREAKING belt were more important than the two guys busting their asses to have the best match possible, made me feel ashamed.”

Seth Rollins tweeted after his match that the fans in attendance at SummerSlam really let him down with their chants about the belt being ugly. Foley says Rollins got so many retweets because most people agreed with him.

Here’s what Foley had to say:

Mick Foley Reveals His Wish For SmackDown, Says The Competition Between Brands Is Real

WWE RAW General Manager Mick Foley has posted a new blog on his Facebook page detailing his wish for SmackDown. Foley says the competition between WWE’s brands and their respective authority figures is very real. He wrote:

    MY SMACKDOWN WISH

Make no mistake about it – the competition between#RAW and #SmackdownLIVE is real. The competition between Stephanie McMahon and Shane McMahon is very real, and to some extent, so is the competition between me and Daniel Bryan. No one wants to be minded constantly by their own son that the other general manager is more popular than you are. But you’d be wrong if you think I want #SmackdownLIVE to fail. I think it’s fair to say that Stephanie and I – along with the #WWE Superstars – hit it out of the park (a baseball reference for my cricket-playing friends in the British Commonwealth countries) last night on #RAW. Between the incredible emotion of the Sasha Banks victory, the star-making debut of Finn Balor and the new look and feel of the show, it was a towering homerun for the #RAW team. But I won’t be rooting for #SmackdownLIVE to strike out tonight, or any Tuesday night. I sincerely want Daniel, Shane and the entire crew to hit it out of the park every week. Then we’ll take those figurative tape-measures out, and figure out whose towering homerun traveled further. If you think it’s #SmackdownLive, I’m afraid the answer is going to be NO, NO, NO! The tale of the tape will answer MICK and STEPH, STEPH, STEPH!

  • Mick Foley Says Roman Reigns Is THE Guy

Mick Foley wrote a Facebook blog on Roman Reigns after the Extreme Rules match against AJ Styles:

    THE GUY

Roman Reigns is THE guy. There, I said it. I’m sure I will get heat for saying it too. But Roman Reigns has found his groove. He’s having great matches, and it is not an exaggeration to label his series of matches with AJ Styles as epic. The chemistry between AJ and Roman was electric. You cannot predict or create that type of chemistry; it either exists or it does not. When great chemistry is lacking, two superstars can still have very good matches, but they tend to fade from memory fairly quickly. When it’s there, that rivalry becomes electric, and energizes everything it comes into contact with – from breathing new life into the Usos, to establishing Gallows and Anderson as players in WWE.

The same mannerisms that drove me crazy when he was being forced upon fans as the good guy – the crooked smile, the dismissive laugh – are incredibly effective heat-getters when facing someone like Styles – and as I’ve long maintained, he is as believable an ass-kicker as I’ve seen when angered. Now, with the return of Seth Rollins, I am looking for even bigger things from Roman Reigns, and for an electric atmosphere that will energize everything they come into contact with.
Let me know what you think. Feel free to disagree.
