The following was posted on WWE.com late this afternoon:
“World Wrestling Entertainment has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar MVP as of December 2, 2010. WWE wishes MVP the best in all future endeavors.”
MVP made his first appearance on the Smackdown brand in 2006 and is perhaps best known for his U.S. title feuds during that time with Chris Benoit and Matt Hardy. He also had a short-lived stint on the Raw brand before being drafted back to Smackdown as part of this year’s Supplemental Draft. He had recently debuted new theme music on TV.
More on this story as it develops.
***UPDATE***
Based on comments made on his Twitter account, it appears MVP went to WWE and asked for his release, which was granted to him. He has expressed great interest in the past in wrestling in Japan, and more specifically, competing against Masahiro Chono, so it should come as no surprise that he has also made a Twitter comment about “going international” and freshening things up.

– Matt Hardy, Gregory Helms and a few of their friends filmed an episode of NBC’s Marrige Ref show this weekend. The filmiing took place inside a wrestling ring on Matt Hardy’s property in North Carolina. The show will air on NBC in December. Hardy wrote the following on Twitter about the taping:
“Had a blast being a part of NBC’s “Marriage Ref” shoot today featuring Kimo in my BCR Dome.. Me, Helms, Shatter & Aden worked Kimo hard.”
– MVP and Chris Jericho went back and forth a bit on Twitter, with both men poking fun at the way MVP has been booked in recent months. Jericho asked MVP, “are you still with the company?” MVP replied, “Barely it would seem. Just barely.”
A fan later asked why does MVP always get “screwed over” on SmackDown, to which he replied, “If you find out let me know please! Lol.”
WWE star MVP was interviewed by The Miami Herald this weekend to promote Survivor Series. Here are some highlights of what he said about:
Online Reports That His Spot In WWE Is In Jeopardy:
“There were a lot of the wrestling Internet sites that have been promoting this false information, I never at any point felt threatened or was worried about my spot. I put it bluntly. A lot of the guys coming in today don’t have the background in wrestling. A lot guys are being recruited as former college athletes, football players. They can’t do what I do. So I’ve never been concerned.
“Besides that, I wish them the best of luck. The more stars we have the better the product is. So if they are developing new stars, that is great, but at no point have I felt threatened or concerned or anything along those lines. I go out there every night win, lose or draw, and I still get one of the biggest receptions from the crowd every night, no matter where we go in the world. When the WWE universe stops accepting me, then I will know something is wrong.”
His Hip Hop Career & Recording Songs With R-Truth and John Cena:
“There is a project that I’m working on. I had a track that was produced by myself and one of my partners. John Cena came by my house. I have a studio in my house. I put a verse on it. He put a verse on it, and it sounded real good.
Then I came up with an idea to add R-Truth to it and make it a WWE single with three guys on the roster that perform their own entrance music and can actually rap. The office has been real receptive to it, and it’s something that will eventually get done. It’s a matter of scheduling. I’d say the near future on that one. I finally got my theme song out; so that’s going. I have a bunch of other stuff that I’m working on. It’s just having the schedule to have the time to get into the studio.”
— As seen last night on SmackDown, MVP become the No. 1 contender to the Intercontinental Championship after defeating “Dashing” Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre in an Intercontinental Championship Qualifying Match. — It was reported last week by the Pro Wrestling Torch that MVP developed heat backstage for moaning about the company’s younger performers being promoted ahead of him. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting this week that the SmackDown Superstar garnered heat for recent Twitter remarks complaining about his lack of a push with the organization.
— The reason given for the substandard outcome of the Kaitlyn vs. Maxine bout on last week’s episode of NXT was because the ring was late in being set up and the Rookie Divas had no time to plan their match move-for-move beforehand like they usually do. The ring setup was delayed because it had to be rigged for The Undertaker to pull Kane down through it for the evening’s SmackDown taping.
— John Cena has not appeared at WWE live events as of late because he’s been in New Mexico filming Blood Brothers for WWE Studios.
— Additional matches taped for this week’s episode of WWE Superstars tonight in Milwaukee, Wisconsin were Tyler Reks vs. Chris Masters and MVP vs. Curt Hawkins.
Matches taped last night prior to Raw were Tyson Kidd vs. Zack Ryder and Mark Henry vs. Jey Uso.
— MVP debuted a new theme song prior to his Superstars match.
There is said to be much frustration amongst the veteran WWE wrestlers not currently being pushed. Many feel they are being pushed aside due to the organization’s youth movement initiative. Matt Hardy garnered a lot of sympathy with his former peers as they felt that he was among the wrestlers company officials didn’t have long-term plans for.
Meanwhile, MVP developed heat backstage for moaning about the company’s younger performers being promoted ahead of him.
SmackDown superstar MVP is back on Twitter venting his frustrations about being misused in WWE. The former United States champion says he’s not happy with the way things currently are, but keeps an upbeat attitude and says he’s not leaving the company any time soon.
When a fan asked him last night if he was happy in WWE, MVP responded,
“Not my finest hours but life is all about peaks & valleys! Tomorrow is a new day!”
Another fan asked MVP if he has lost his passion for wrestling. He replied:
“I LOVE wrestling! Not crazy about the “business”.”
MVP later said the following about his relationship with WWE:
“All relationships have ups & downs. You work thru ‘em. I’M NOT LEAVING! Let ‘em speculate on that. I’m pretty candid!”

Just one operative has been awarded 16 purple hearts, 3 Congressional Medals of Honor and 7 presidential medals of bravery. And only one guy is man enough to still sport a mullet .. Will Forte brings Saturday Night Live’s clueless soldier of fortune to the big screen in the action comedy MacGruber.
For those not cool enough to be around back in the 1980s, the MacGruber SNL character is a parody of the “MacGyver” television show, which was about a secret agent who refused to use a gun and could take down a group of terrorists with a frisbee, a banana, some duct tape and a bottle of hair spray.
