Nasty Boys’ Brian Knobbs On Possible WWE HOF Induction, Today’s Wrestling Scene

Brian Knobbs, one-half of the legendary Nasty Boys tag-team, recently appeared as a guest on The Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On who was a favorite tag team of the Nasty Boys to work against: “We had some of our best matches with The Rockers. We liked each other and trusted each other, they are the ones that innovated the different maneuvers that you didn’t see before like the double leap frogs, double drop downs, double hip toss, double elbow/pop up a lot of double stuff put together and that was all done by Shawn (Michaels) and Marty (Jannety). We were more of the brawlers. But we worked so fantastic together. I remember a match against them that still holds up in my head and it’s on one of the Coliseum Videos from the WWF. Nasty Boys against The Rockers at the Royal Albert Hall in England. We were the tag champs at the time and what a great match we had, we just clicked and you could see that. When you are in with a group where you are learning from them or and maybe a little older then you in the ring and you get along then you can see the work that happens in the ring and how smooth it works and how good everything looks.”

On working with Jimmy Hart as the Nasty Boys manager: “I consider him to be our true manager. He is the one that took us to the top and he is definitely one of the best managers out there. From Capt. Lou Albano to Bobby “The Brain” Heenan you’ve got a lot of different managers out there, but Jimmy Hart is the hardest working man in show business and he still looks fantastic. He is still out there doing his thing and he loves this business and was a true manager for us when we first broke into the business. When we got to WWE, he said that he would ride with us and get a room together and help us out. After 10 days we landed in Tampa and he said “Nasty Boys, I love you but you guys can handle it from here”, he lasted 10 days with the Nasty Boys and we weren’t rooming or riding together anymore. But those were the crazy days, what can I say?”

On the origin of the Nasty Boys look: “When we were in Memphis, we came out in black ladies rain coats that looked like leather and had these spandex gold tights and long boots and Jerry Lawler said “if you are supposed to be Nasty Boys you don’t look like you are from the streets.” So me and Sags went out and really became the first ones who decided to cover up their bodies. Our arms looked great but everything else didn’t look that great so we could cover everything else and if our arms got any smaller we would have just worn long sleeve sweatshirts. We started to cover up and added the splash with the Nasty Boys logo and actually the only thing I didn’t like was that he (Lawler) painted our face and that was the Road Warriors trademark so we got rid of that right before we left Memphis.”

On today’s wrestling scene: “I still love the wrestling business, but the only thing I dislike is there are not too many places for the younger guys to go work. When we were growing up if you were good enough there were other places you could go work to become the very best at what you do and work on your craft. Today, I think that is missing in the wrestling business but everything changes and you have to go with the flow.”

On possibly being inducted into the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame: “That would be the final liner in the Nasty Boys legacy to get actually inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. That would put the ultimate stamp on our careers and we are getting older, me and Sags are both 52 and that would be the honor of all honors to get inducted. So I hope people are out their rooting for us because it would be our highest honor.”

Brian Knobs Talks About Nasty Boys Leaving TNA, Flair-Jordan

Brian Knobs appeared on the Monday Night Mayhem radio show this week and spoke at length about the Nasty Boys’ recent run in TNA, the recent altercation between Ric Flair and Orlando Jordan’s  male companion, whether the Nasty Boys have spoken to WWE and more. You can listen to the entire interview at MondayNightMayhem.com (MP3).

Interview highlights courtesy of The Mayhem’s official correspondent, Paterson From New Jersey:

The truth behind The Nasty Boys reportedly being released from TNA Wrestling: “Right now, no one has contacted me or Saggs. No one from TNA. I have talked to Hogan, and he has not verified whether we are not. Supposedly, we are still with TNA. Nobody hasn’t told us anything yet. There’s a lot of stuff going on there as you see. They went to Monday nights, they’re trying to get ratings up, they’re throwing a lot of stuff together right now, and right now we are in ‘the limbo factor.’ Nobody has told us that we are there or not there yet. I’m not gonna speculate like everyone else is on the Internet, and I’m not gonna throw wild stories out there like ‘Brian Knobbs acted crazy to one of the executives at Spike, took his pants down, & ran naked across the pool at The Hard Rock.’ C’mon, we know better than that.”

The truth behind the alleged incident at The Hard Rock Cafe: “Let me put this into perspective. Something did happen two or three weeks ago, but I was there with Orlando Jordan’s significant other & Ric Flair. Now you don’t think that if I went crazy & we haven’t been there in over a month, even if it was in February or January, somebody would have said or put on the internet because they are a bunch of fans in front of everyone? There are no private parties like they put on the internet. There was nothing like that. Every time we were through with a match, we went out for a couple of beers, and we were professional as hell. We were at the Hard Rock Cafe, and we were with everybody. So you don’t think if we were acting like people are saying, it would have been on the internet the next day. Not when you hear The Nasty Boys are not there now, and this might have happened; that’s all speculation, and it’s a bunch of BS.”

Knobbs’ relationship with Hogan, Eric Bischoff, & Dixie Carter when The Nasty Boys came into TNA & if it changed throughout their run with the company: “Let’s face it. Me & Hulk are good buds, and we are always going to be good buds, but Hulk brought us in. Hulk asked me & Saggs, we did not ask to come to TNA. Hulk asked us to come help him out, and that’s what we were doing. We were coming to help him out. We never went against Team 3-D, and it was like a legendary match-up made in heaven, since they’re crazy, and we’re crazy. So we loved it, and said, ‘Sure we’ll come help.’ Now Dixie Carter has always been nice to us, always a real sweetheart. She’s out there doing a lot of things, and she always talked to us real nice. Eric Bischoff on the other hand…you never know. It’s 50-50 with him. He’s now running a lot of stuff again, so who knows…Between Hulk & Dixie Carter, there is no ill will, and I wouldn’t think there would be no ill will between us & Eric, but you never know.”

Was there any heat from the TNA locker room towards either Knobbs or Saggs: “Truthfully if there was, they never really showed it to me & Saggs. Everybody was great to us, and everybody showed us a lot of respect, and we do have a lot of friends down there too. Sting’s a very good friend from many years, and Kurt Angle’s a good friend. We had wars with Cactus Jack (Mick Foley) in WCW, so we have a lot of buddies down there also, so when came in, we fit right in. We never got into with anybody. We joked around…had fun. There was no ribs pulled or nothing like that. The old Nasty Boys didn’t come out…that’s for sure. As mind-bogging as it is to you guys, it’s pretty mind-boggling to us.”

Whether The Nasty Boys were contacted by the WWE prior to going to TNA or have been since their reported release: “We got contacted back in January. They called me and left a message to call them back, and they wanted to see what our status was in TNA. It was short & sweet, and they left a number, but I never did call it. I told Hogan they called us, and he said we should check it out, but I said right now, we’re down here, and our loyalty is our loyalty.”

More is contained in this exclusive interview with one half of The Nasty Boys, including Brian’s candid comments about The Honky Tonk Man being one of the first outlets to break the news about The Nasty Boys reported release from TNA, debuting for the company as the “Hogan/Bischoff Era” was just beginning (and how things changed after their splash into the promotion), along with his thoughts about The Nasty Boys’ chances at the WWE Hall Of Fame/the possibilities of getting inducted. Nasty Boys Gone From TNA & Creed Confirms His Departure

— The Nasty Boys — Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags — have reportedly been released from TNA Wrestling.

According to the webmaster of the official website of The Honky Tonk Man, Knobbs was involved in an incident at a TNA function where Spike TV executives were present. They were said to be very unhappy with his behavior, which resulted in both being let go. ProWrestling.net independently confirmed with their company sources that the duo has indeed been let go.

As of this post, their profiles have yet be removed from the company website, thus deeming their respective departures official.

— As reported earlier, Consequences Creed has been released from TNA. Shortly after news broke of his reported release, Creed confirmed his departure from the organization on his Twitter account, stating: “Thanks for the support! Yea it’s true no more TNA for me. So now it’s time to do work son! The only thing that can beat a Creed is a Drago!”

TNA Schedule Change For TV, TNA Tag Team’s Future In Doubt

— Though the iMPACT! replay was canceled last week, Spike today changed course and a replay of Monday’s show will air tomorrow night at 9:00 p.m.

— Initially, Team 3D were looking forward to working with The Nasty Boys as Brother Ray was telling friends he was excited about it. However, feelings changed quickly when the two teams actually worked a match together. Internally, Brian Knobs is considered fragile in the ring, to the point that he is unable to handle 3D’s finisher — Sags has been pegged as the go-to guy. Though it’s been speculated as lip service, Hulk Hogan has told people that The Nasty Boys will have to step up their game or else they won’t last long as in-ring performers. (source: www.pwtorch.com)

— Today is Samoa Joe’s birthday as he turns 31 years old. He has not been seen on television since the Feb. 18th edition of iMPACT! when he was abducted by ninjas in the parking lot of the Impact! Zone.

Hogan Teases Steve Austin, Randy Savage & Nasty Boys To TNA

Hulk Hogan called in to Bubba The Love Sponge’s satellite radio show this morning and as always, the Hogan hype machine was in full force.  During the Hogan said that some big names in the pro wrestling world could be headed to TNA Wrestling. Hogan said we could see Steve Austin, Randy Savage and the Nasty Boys in the future.

Steve Austin is a working actor and it’s highly unlikely he’d ever appear for any company outside of WWE. Hogan said he’s buried the hatchet after a long personal feud with Randy Savage, who is 56 years old and did not look very good during his last TNA run several years ago. The Nasty Boys are close with Hogan and actually could wind up in TNA at some point.

Hogan also joked with Bubba and asked if he wanted a spot on TNA’s creative team with him.
