All In to Feature a Title v Title Match?

The Cody Rhodes and Young Bucks’ self-funded “All In” event which sold out in 30 minutes is going to be the biggest show in the independent wrestling scene. Fans of wrestling are looking forward to the event which will take place at September 1. Major names from the wrestling world have been confirmed for the show, but only one big match has been announced and we don’t have a full match card yet.

At the Ring of Honor: United show in London, Cody Rhodes was interrupted by the current NWA World Champion, Nick Aldis. Both of them are set to face each other at All In, but Aldis wanted plans to change a little.

Cody is going to challenge the Ring of Honor World Champion Dalton Castle for his title at ROH Best in the World next month. Aldis wants his match with Cody to be a title for title match if Cody wins the ROH World Championship.

Cody agreed to Aldis’ stipulation of the match and looks like it will be a title for title match at All In if Cody is able to win the ROH World Championship from Dalton Castle.

Nick Aldis Confirmed For ROH Honor United: Edinburgh

NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Nick Aldis, will be competing in ROH’s upcoming Honor United tour. It will be his first time in Ring of Honor.

News that Nick Aldis will be wrestling for ROH comes on the heels of Billy Corgan revealing the NWA title will be defended at All-In. Cody is scheduled to challenge whoever the champion is at the time. Now it appears, Aldis wants to get a piece of Cody’s Bullet Club teammates beforehand.

Shortly after the All-In Chicago press conference, Aldis seemed upset with Billy Corgan’s announcement. He sent out the following Tweet in response:

It was not long before Ring of Honor officials confirmed the match:

Cody vs. Nick Aldis At All In? Not So Fast

This past weekend, NWA President Billy Corgan made a surprise appearance at the All In press conference from Chicago at the Pro Wrestling Tees store.

Following Corgan’s announcement that the NWA would be involved with All in and the NWA World Heavyweight Championship would be defended at the show, Cody Rhodes approached the podium and announced he’d be the one challenging for the gold.

On Thursday, NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis noted on Twitter that he hasn’t signed on the dotted line to face Cody at All In – and there are certain stipulations that must be met in order for him to do so. Like most, he’s after “money & respect.”

Aldis says he wants a match against The Young Bucks at the upcoming Ring Of Honor: Honor United show from Edinburgh, Scotland next week (5/24). Aldis is so confident in his abilities that he’ll let ROH management choose his partner.

The Bucks Are [All] In

Nick Jackson of the Young Bucks has since replied to Aldis.

Colt Cabana To Receive NWA World Heavyweight Title Shot in China

Colt Cabana, is the newest challenger announced for NWA Heavyweight Champion, Nick Aldis’ world tour. Cabana is a former 2x NWA World Heavyweight Champion and will challenge the champion in April from Shanghai, China.

Cabana previously held the title in 2011 and 2012, having first won the title from Adam Pearce on Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. After losing the title to the Sheik, Cabana once again defeated Adam Pearce for the belt on April 8th, 2012. Pearce had won a four-way match to win the vacated title the previous summer.

Cabana reacted to the news he will be receiving an NWA title shot in the video below:

Billy Corgan Talks TNA Management Burying Nick Aldis

Billy Corgan was on Busted Open Radio recently. In addition to speaking about the latest events in his National Wrestling Alliance, Corgan spoke about his time in TNA/Impact Wrestling.

One of the more notable topics which came up on the show was TNA management’s opinion of Aldis while he was in TNA.

Dreamer (who was co-hosting) mentioned he has always felt Aldis has a bit of a chip on his shoulder, though it wasn’t clear if he was speaking that way of Aldis to build for his eventual title match. Dreamer will challenge the NWA champion at House of Hardcore 39 on March 24th from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

The full interview can be watched below:

Billy Corgan on Nick Aldis

Corgan, who took ownership of the NWA on October 1st, 2017, also stated that TNA management would openly bury Aldis for his perceived ego. Corgan mentioned he has never had a problem with Aldis but perhaps his friendship with Aldis’ wife, Mickie James, changed the dynamic of Corgan’s relationship with him.

“I sat in many TNA meetings where Nick [Aldis’] name came up and people in the company openly buried him,” Corgan said. “And you would say this guy is in his prime – both as a performer and as a talent – and it was always about his attitude. People didn’t want to work with him.” – Billy Corgan on TNA’s attitude to Nick Aldis.

James Ellsworth Challenges For The NWA Championship (Video)

NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Nick Aldis, recently announced plans to defend his championship across the globe. Aldis and his manager, Auston Idol, are attempting to defend the NWA title 20x in 60 days. Consequently, they’ve booked title matches for the next 2 months.

The NWA has clarified that should Aldis lose his NWA championship at any point along the tour, the new champion would pick up where he left off.

Yesterday on Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, the NWA revealed Aldis’ first challenger. Episodes of the show are available through the FITE App.

While the challenger was considered a heavy underdog against Aldis, he did have two fists and a chance.

Nick Aldis vs. James Ellsworth

33-year-old James Ellsworth recently began competing on the independent scene again. His last match in WWE was a November 11th loss on Smackdown to Becky Lynch from Manchester. That same night AJ Styles won the WWE Championship.

Ellsworth’s first post-WWE appearances came at Santino Marella’s wrestling school in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. In addition to wrestling earlier in the evening, Ellsworth would win the first ever “Santino Cobra Battle Royal” that night.

Unfortunately, Ellsworth was unable to defeat Aldis for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. As a result, Aldis now has 19 title defenses left on his tour.

NWA Champ Nick Aldis Talks Big Spots Being Overused

NWA Champ Nick Aldis recently appeared on the Arm Drag Takedown with Pollo Del Mar to talk about several professional wrestling topics. Aldis discussed big spots being used too much in wrestling today, reusing an older style of promotion in professional wrestling (similar to what the UFC is doing today) to get fans interested, and more. Here are the highlights:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kzvvrepGiA

Big spots being used too much in wrestling today:

“[Wrestling] got hoodwinked into thinking the most important thing in our business was the match in the ring. I got into this to tell stories and to get people invested into characters and emotion. I wanted to be an entertainer! I wanted to be able to indulge in all the things pro wrestling provides which ‘real sports’ don’t.”

Reusing an older promotion model in pro wrestling (similar to what the UFC does today) to get fans interested:

“Essentially, if you changed the final outcome of the UFC builds with an NWA World Championship match from the 1980s, the whole lot of it leading up to that is very much the same. The reality was, if you wanted to see these two guys go at it, without interference or in the full match, you either had to buy a ticket or you had to tune into this pay-per-view or this special. That’s essentially what UFC’s model is. They put out [UFC Embedded], they put out smaller cards on free TV, but everything else they put out is press conferences, interviews, profile pieces, all of which is leading to the fight. The fight is the attraction.”

Taking the “unknown champion” (then-NWA Champion, Tim Storm) from a less popular promotion and turning it into an angle:

“Dave [Lagana] and Billy [Corgan], as the Managing Editor and Executive Producer, took that story and instead of [pretending] certain elements [that] some people might look at as ‘negative’ didn’t exist, they, in fact, embraced that and made it a compelling part of the story. In fact, that’s the part people have been most interested in. … You can find the elements of people’s real lives and make them into a compelling story, if you know how to do it right.”

Nick Aldis Talks About The State Of TNA, Why He Left

Former TNA wrestler star Nick Aldis (Magnus Nick)  joined the Jordan Garber NOW podcast last week to discuss his experience with the company, working for Global Force Wrestling and more. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

TNA Possibly Shutting Down:

“It would be sad. If its not going to be in a good place. Than it may be a better thing. If they get acquired by WWE it wont be the worst thing in the world. If they are going to cease operating at least they could live forever on the network and have a good legacy. I hope everyone there is having fun and continuing to make money.”

Why He Left TNA:

“It’s no secret at this point that my departure from there was because of money. But also because of a failed relationship with the guy in charge and that is much my fault as it is his fault.”

Working For Global Force Wrestling:

“I told Jeff Jarrett of course I’d work for you I’ll help you out. Then we did the TV taping’s in Vegas which were phenomenal. I had no idea. He just said your gonna win and you’re gonna be the champion and I said fantastic. Thanks. It was just business I guess he just seemed I was the suitable candidate.”

The first ever GFW World Champion, GFW Tag-Team Champions and GFW NEX-GEN Champion will be crowned at this Friday’s taping. As things stand now, the logical front-runner to be the GFW World Champion is Nick Aldis (Magnus).

While an official domestic GFW television deal has yet to be announced, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the promotion may be closer to a deal in the U.K. than they are in the U.S. at this point.

There were reports last month that Jeff Jarrett had already negotiated a deal, although those reports appeared to be premature.

GFW is scheduled to travel to the U.K. next week for a set of live events in that market. Advertised to appear on the shows are Nick Aldis, Mickie James, Jeff Jarrett, Karen Jarrett, Doug Williams and Marty Scurll.

Magnus Says He Didn’t Have Fun In TNA, Criticizes TNA Angles & More

Former TNA Wrestling star and current Global Force Wrestling performer Nick “Magnus” Aldis recently appeared as a guest on the PodNasty Wrestling podcast to talk about a number of subjects. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On not having fun toward the end of his TNA run and working with Jeff Jarrett in GFW: “No, absolutely not (I wasn’t having fun in TNA). Some of that’s to do with them, and some of that’s to do with me,” said Magnus.

“Nobody owes you a good time or anything like that, but due to a number of different things I wasn’t having fun there anymore and I just like to work for Jeff (Jarrett) again. I think Jeff is a great boss, a great wrestling guy and he’s got a lot of great experience in the business.”

On dropping the TNA World Heavyweight Championship: “I thought it was premature and immature.”

“To me, I don’t think that decision was just based completely on business. What’s done is done, you know, they made their bed, they’re lying in it and when it comes with what they’re left with now, you get what you pay for.”

On not liking the Mickie James train tracks angle in TNA: “The only person who did like it was the person who wrote it. He had the final say on it, we all suggested alternatives, we all thought it was not going to work and it was not going to get a reaction, and our disregard for it and that was the result of it. That was one of the reasons where we just kind of said ‘okay, it’s maybe time to wrap this thing up.'”

Magnus Talks Plans In GFW, The Talent Roster & More

GFW’s Nick “Magnus” Aldis recently took part in a Q&A with the folks at F4WOnline.com. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On what fans can expect from the GFW TV tapings: “From what I understand – and the conversations I’ve had with Jeff, Sonjay, Karen and others – I think there’ll be very good production values. The Orleans Arena has been a huge partner for Jeff. He’s got this lighting company on board who do really incredible lighting for concerts and events and stuff. He understands that first and foremost it’s got to look the part.

One of the criticisms that have been levied against Global a little bit is the roster. It’s like “Is it really your roster or is it just guys who are available now?” That’s the truth – he’s developing a roster based on who he has available to him, but I think some of it is that he’s seen guys who perhaps he saw more potential in and wants to bring out the rest of it. I think that you’ll see some talent who are showcased and you’ll see them in a while new light.

I think honestly the thing that’s going to differentiate it more than anything is the way that we present the product. It’s going to be much closer to what you might see from a New Japan or someone like that. It’s more about the competitiveness and the rivalries and the sort of sporting element that exists – with the production value – which, for me, was always what was best about pro wrestling, rather than so, so heavily story orientated.”

On the GFW roster: “You’re right…….Look here’s the thing. Jeff could have put together a roster of guys who already have a name from somewhere, and he would have been bashed for not giving any new talent a chance. He could have put a roster together of all new guys and been bashed for having a roster of nobodies. At the end of the day, those critics, that voice is small but it’s always going to be there. You don’t ignore it, but you have to understand what its value is in the big picture, which is perhaps as significant sometimes as we, in wrestling, make it out to be. By that I mean social media, the immediate online community and that feedback. I’m certainly not going to bash it and say it’s insignificant, because it’s not, but I don’t think it’s as significant as sometimes we make it out to be.

I think one of the reasons TNA went wrong was that they started treating that minority as the voice of everybody. They forgot the fact that there was this casual audience, and what happened is that TNA had the biggest remaining slice of market share after WWE – which obviously has the huge majority – and then they ended up dividing it up between Ring of Honor and Lucha Underground, because they focussed too much on this minority that weren’t necessarily theirs. They started to go after what I think was Ring of Honor’s audience and in the process they lost the ones that they were retaining – who then decided to look for alternatives in Lucha Underground, which I think is a magnificent product, and in Ring of Honor.

Jeff is one of those guys who has enough of an idea of that audience but doesn’t get too wrapped up in their opinion that he forgets about going after the big fish.”

On his final comments on GFW: “Right now I’m just focused on the book and getting as much awareness as possible. But I would say this as far as Global is concerned; there are some pretty cool announcements and news coming up in the next week or two, which I’m privy to. Obviously I can’t share it – and I’m not trying to be a worker and be all “Hey” There’s a big, huge announcement!” – but it is a pretty cool one. There is some pretty cool stuff coming up that people will be interested to hear from Global.

I would urge wrestling fans to keep an open mind and remember how long it takes to forge a process like this. It’s been around for a year. We live in a world where people expect things to materialise on cue, but it doesn’t work like that. Stick with it and watch it, because there’s some pretty cool stuff coming up. I think it’s going to be a new player in the business, otherwise I wouldn’t have gone forward with it.”

Magnus Talks Differences Between GFW And TNA & More

Global Force Wrestling issued the following on Friday to promote the release of the new book by GFW’s Nick Aldis (aka Magnus).

Nick Aldis took part in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Thursday afternoon. Aldis talked about his time in TNA, the general wrestling landscape, his time on “Gladiators” in the UK, WWE, and much more. Aldis will be in Las Vegas on July 24th as part of the GFW Global Championship Tournament. For match-ups and ticket information, click here.

Here are some of the highlights from the AMA:

fenderdean13: Now that you are out of TNA and are a free agent, what promotions other than GFW and ICW are you looking forward to working with? Is PWG a option, or any of the promotions under the wwn or smark mark video banner? Also are you looking forward to facing anybody while working at these different places?

Aldis: There are some great promotions I’d like to work with including PWG. Loads of talent I want to work with: Young Bucks, Cabana, Moose, Chris Hero, Rampage Brown, Shinsuke Nakamura, Machine gun KA and tons more.

benlikesfood: Hey Nick, I saw you last year at a TNA house show in Sioux City, IA. I believe it was you, Bobby Roode and Bully Ray in a triple threat. Was a great match and a pleasure seeing you in person

Aldis: Thanks! GFW coming to Iowa soon. Check GlobalForceWrestling.com

Booby50: I was unable to make the GFW show in Appleton, WI last week. Did you get to enjoy the area/see any sights? Also, how do you get so cut?

Aldis: I enjoyed the Appleton show, great fans. As for your other question, check out my book “The Superstar Body” https://www.amazon.com/The-Superstar-Body-Real-World-Techniques/dp/1909626430#mediaMatrix_secondary_view_div_1437020737201

ollinsblonde: Hey Magnus, hope you’re well. I know a lot of us here are a bit wary on how GFW is going to go from the get-go? I, personally am still holding out hope. Why should we be excited about it?

Aldis: Common sense approach to the product. Innovative, honest presentation of the talent. New production techniques. Fresh energy.

homer62: Thanks for doing this sir. What do you see as differentiators between TNA and GFW?

Aldis: Early days, but so far, I’m having fun again at Global, that’s the key difference. Great crew.

odor31: Tell us about your recent match(es) with Kongo Kong in GFW…excited for the title tournament coming later this month?

Aldis: Great super heavyweight. Tons of potential. Very looking forward to Vegas.

Magnus Talks About Infamous TNA Conference Call, GFW-TNA Relationship

Nick Aldis (aka Magnus) recently spoke with Rolling Stone to promote the launch of Global Force Wrestling. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On what led to him leaving TNA: “I’ve been with TNA for six-and-a-half years, which has been incredible for me. I’ve seen a lot of changes in that time, just like you would with any company. I’ve seen a lot of resets, and all the while I’ve always somehow managed to stay the course and develop and grow as a talent. I reached what I thought was the pinnacle of my career at the end of 2013 [when he won the TNA World Title].

I came to the decision, if I’m honest with myself, about six months ago, maybe a bit before that, that I would leave the company when my contract was up. I’ve done everything that I can do, and I appreciated everything. It’s just time for me now, at 28 years old, to do something else to renew my focus and my energy. I just feel like I maxed out what I can do at TNA. Some people call it the seven-year itch, and I can totally relate to that.”

On signing with GFW and GFW working with TNA: “There is something I have to clear up. It’s not so much that I’m leaving TNA for GFW, that’s just a coincidence that I’m going there immediately. I had let TNA know that I was going to leave on June 30, and we left on good terms. We agreed to wrap things up the right way, and I loved the way that we did. Then Jeff showed up on TV, and I looked at him and just said, “What the hell?” I was backstage at the TV tapings, and little Kody [Angle] came running up to me and gave me a big hug. I didn’t put two-and-two together, because I thought maybe Kurt had the kids. Then I saw Jeff’s kids, and then I saw this SUV. Suddenly the window rolls down and Jeff is there. I just told him, “I don’t even want to know.” I had no idea he was going to show up, and I’m still not sure what is going on completely.”

On what the TNA locker room was like over the past few months: “To be honest, it was very turbulent. I’m sure you’re aware of the conference call that took place not too long ago. There were things said in that conference call that were a long time coming. I’m not about to throw any talent under the bus, but there were certain things that I heard in that conference call, like talent saying, “I’m disgusted by this” or, “We have a right to know.” Anyone that’s been involved with TNA knows that at times, I’ve been very outspoken. There was a point where I just sat there and thought that what everyone has to remember is that as an independent contractor in wrestling, nobody owes you a living. You don’t have a right to be guaranteed a living just because you signed a contract somewhere. Most contracts, with exceptions, can just be canceled anyways. I just kind of went, “Nobody owes you a living.” Every day that I get to put on a pair of tights and boots and get to feed my son, that’s a good day.”

On if he would support a wrestling union: “In principle, pro wrestlers would absolutely benefit from a union, but it would take a huge number of guys to shift the balance of power. And the sad reality is that the business has had decades of experience squashing any union potential. I feel a little vulnerable even talking about it in this hypothetical sense. I wrote a column in Fighting Spirit Magazine years ago about how I thought British wrestlers qualified to be a part of Equity, the U.K. performing artists’ union. Shortly after the column came out, I was contacted by someone at Equity who said they agreed with me. Even when there was an existing union available to join, nobody did. But then I heard that this guy who was known for being a con man in the business was telling the guys that he had set it up and would get them in for a fee, which pretty much sums up the business; there will always be one guy who cuts the golden goose open rather than let it lay eggs.”

On what else he has planned for his future besides GFW: “I have a fitness book that’s due for imminent release. I wish I could tell you the exact release date, but it should be any day. The book is called The Superstar Body. It’s my real-world techniques on how to have the kind of body that you associate with not necessarily bodybuilders, but movie stars and wrestlers, MMA guys. The premise of the book is that you don’t have to live like a monk and do plain chicken breast and rice. This is what works for me in the real world, with a demanding job and a baby at home, and I still go out and drink beer with my friends. Not only that, this is how my buddy who is a Muscle and Fitness model does it, and this is how Kurt Angle does it, this is how Rob Terry does it. I have input from loads of different guys. So for anyone who is interested in getting in shape, it’s not just me describing my philosophies. It’s also input from all these other guys and girls.

“I’ve got a renewed energy though. Especially since I’m so close with Jeff. Jeff is a very open guy, and I just got off the phone with him, and I’m excited. I feel like I’m part of something. It’s a startup, and there’s still a lot to form, but it’s forming. I’m also very much a free agent. While I’m with Global Force, I’m available. But the reality is that when Jeff described it to me, I knew I was in. There’s a lot of moving parts, and there’s going to be more to come very soon.”

Magnus Talks Leaving TNA, Issues With The Company, Trainwreck Impact Segment

Former TNA star Nick “Magnus” Aldis recently appeared as a guest on the Jobbing Out podcast to talk about his TNA departure, among other topics. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On leaving TNA: “When I gave my notice, by the time we got off the phone, I felt like 100 lb weight has been lifted off my back.”

On the locker room: “To be honest, it’s been very turbulent.”

“There were certain things I heard in the conference call, where the talent said things like I’m disgusted by this, or we have the right to know…the thing you have to remember is nobody owes you a living. You don’t have a right to be guaranteed anything.”

On booking issues after Jeff Jarrett left: “He had a good idea of some fundamental parts of booking…When Jeff left, there were a lot of things that I felt that there was a struggle, that when Jeff was there, he would have nipped it in the bud.”

“Guys are undercutting each other…There are too many people willing to come in and take the same spot for less money.”

“You might look like you have this super-great attitude, but you’re f*cking everyone over, because you’re doing things for way too cheap. So now it’s harder for everyone else to justify our pay.”

On that attitude hurting TNA: “You can’t blame the guys paying the money, because their job is to get the best services for the lower prices, but you get what you pay for. And I think that’s something that TNA is experiencing now, and understanding now.”

On the feud with James Storm: “At the beginning, we had a great in-ring segment. We put in loads of great little subtle nuances, and I thought this would be really good…Suddenly we get the word that this is what they want to do with this train thing. I think some of it unfortunately tied in to that they knew I wasn’t going to stay. That was an issue. Nonetheless, when the train thing came about…I’m trying to be as positive as I can. This was one situation that when it was described, I couldn’t find a single person that liked it. I couldn’t find a single person, apart from the guy whose idea it was, that didn’t say “what the hell is that?”
