No Way Jose Claims He Pitched The Idea Of WWE 24/7 Championship

No Way Jose says it was he who initially pitched the idea of having a 24/7 championship in WWE.

The WWE 24/7 Championship was introduced back in May 2019. Since that time, there have been almost 150 title reigns. No Way Jose never got his hands on the title but he claims to have been the one to pitch the idea.

Here’s what he told the folks over at the Wrestling Perspective Podcast.

“Okay, I want to say that — and I don’t know how many people have claimed this, but in December of 20?? — God, when did that title come out? I might have the year wrong, but in December of 2018, I wrote to my writer, and I, word for word said, ‘What if we do a 24/7 Championship?’ I’ll pull it up right now. What if we do a 24/7 title that gives everybody something to do.

“Because I wasn’t doing sh*t and I was like, ‘they’re not going to put me in this title run, that title run, or that title run.’ They didn’t want to do hardcore, so I was like, ‘why don’t we do a 24/7?’ He straight up said, ‘no, that’s not an idea that we want at this time.’ I was like, ‘alright, whatever,’ and I just kept rolling with other ideas. I was watching Spartacus at that time, I started coming up with stuff from there. I was just watching so many different things. But I legitimately remember that. Six months later, here comes the title and I’m like, ‘oh!’ No bonus, no nothing. Like I said, I don’t even know if it was my idea. But I know six months before that, I mentioned that and then there it was. So it was what it was.”

No Way Jose has since changed his name to “No Way.” He currently competes under the Impact Wrestling promotion. He made his debut for Impact Wrestling at Slammiversary back in July.

No Way Jose On His WWE Release, Name Origins, Comparisons To Adam Rose

Former WWE Superstar No Way Jose recently caught up with Inside the Ropes. During their interview, he opened up about his recent release, admitting he was “blindsided” by the news. However, with his release, he is looking to embracing future opportunities that no longer revolve around his former-party loving character.

Jose shared that he’s in a tough position as the world knows him as No Way Jose. Now, however, he has a choice to make: lean into that gimmick or try to develop something completely different. He confessed that, despite the fact it was a good character for him, he doesn’t want to “continue that character” going forward. He noted how if he ever does an appearance with that gimmick, it will most likely be a one-off as he has “so much more to show.”

When it comes to the character’s name, the former Superstar revealed he wasn’t initially convinced. He recalled how the idea first came about, crediting Sami Callihan with the idea. When the character was first pitched, he figured it would be a catchphrase. That was until Matt Bloom proposed he adopted it as his character name.

“I was just like No Way Jose? C’mon bro. I didn’t think people would take it seriously. On the grand scheme of things, I was like would they put a championship on somebody named No Way Jose? The answer, no way!”

With the dancing and partying No Way Jose’s character enjoyed, fans were quick to point out the similarities between himself and Adam Rose. It was an obvious juxtaposition that he was apprehensive about. He stressed how he wasn’t trying to knock Adam Rose in any way with his take on Jose. He then noted how he would do his entrance alone in NXT, getting people up and partying as opposed to Rose’s use of Rosebuds to party alongside him.

No Way Jose Has Plans To Make “Big Things Happen”

No Way Jose has been lost on the main roster ever since leaving WWE NXT.
Since coming to RAW, the dancing Superstar has been unable to get the TV time he longs for.

He has plans to change that.

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, No Way Jose detailed his plans to make things happen for himself this summer—plans he hopes will help him get higher on the card.

SummerSlam

Looking towards SummerSlam, Jose states that he is looking to build momentum as WWE heads towards their big summer PPV.

“I’m looking forward to wrestling in different cities. SummerSlam is right around the corner, and that’s one of the most exciting weekends of the year. That’s what I am focused on most, building to this big event. That’s my priority for the summer. I’m looking forward to making some big things happen.”

Wanting to leverage this match time, he intends to work hard so that WWE can realize the value he can bring to the table. He also wants to be involved in more WWE community projects, proving himself to be an asset to the promotion.

“Staying involved in the community is a big part of it. I’ve watched Titus O’Neil, and that’s the main name that comes into my focus. People might remember him for sliding into the ring, but he is really a person who has made an incredible impact here.”

“Titus is a very valuable asset, and that goes beyond wrestling,” Jose said. “I’ve learned that type of perspective. There is always something out there bigger than yourself. There are different ways you can make yourself valuable, and that goes deeper than just titles. Every one of us wants to main event WrestleMania, but not all of us will do it. Staying patient is important, and working so hard that the company has to realize your value.”

No Way Jose Rap Video Leads To Interesting Comments From WWE Superstars

A pair of WWE Superstars had an interesting back-and-forth exchange on Twitter after watching a freestyle rap released by No Way Jose this weekend.

Things got started when No Way Jose released a freestyle rap about his intentions on coming for R-Truth and the WWE 24/7 Championship.

In the rap, which the WWE Superstar released in a video via his official Twitter page (@WWENoWayJose) on Friday evening, he mentions several of the recent title changes that happened in various settings, including the WWE flight to Saudi Arabia, a golf course and 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick’s real-life wedding.

Titus O’Neil chimed in on his official Twitter page (@TitusONeilWWE) with a response to No Way Jose’s freestyle.

“This was EXCELLENT No Way Jose,” wrote O’Neil earlier this morning. “But you’ll have to beat me after I beat him, and unlike him I won’t run … I’ll fight you, him, them and all-y’all-stankin’-a** family members!”

No Way Jose & Titus O’Neil Get R-Truth’s Attention

The pair of tweets managed to capture the attention of the reigning eight-time WWE 24/7 Champion.

“You can’t stay on your feet long enough to fight,” wrote R-Truth via his official Twitter page (@RonKillings) today, before dropping a random “Lil Jimmy” mention. “I WILL bite both of y’all if Lil Jimmy said so!”

This lead to O’Neil posting another response with a GIF from the movie Friday that features “Deebo” intimidating some of the men in the neighborhood, along with a caption that read, “Shutcho…wait who TF you think you talkin’ too?!”

R-Truth would respond about 20 minutes later with a GIF of his own, as he posted a funny Kevin Hart facial expression from the actor / comedian’s stand-up comedy special. The WWE 24/7 Champion included a caption that again referenced “Lil Jimmy.”

“What does TF mean,” questioned Truth in his response. “I hope that’s not bad language.”

Truth concluded, “I don’t use bad language ’round Lil Jimmy.”

Why Sumo Wrestler Worked The Greatest Royal Rumble Match

Many fans were a bit confused when Sumo wrestler Hiroko Sumi appeared in the Greatest Royal Rumble match in Saudi Arabia. Dave Meltzer recently discussed this in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.

Apparently when the member of the royal family who booked the show was talking to Vince, he wanted names like Ultimate Warrior and Yokozuna wrestling. Unfortunately both of those men are no longer with us. Hiroko Sumi’s appearance seems to be a way to give that member of the royal family a taste of a Yokozuna-type character.

No Way Jose Talks Who He Is & His Unique In-Ring Style

NXT newcomer No Way Jose recently spoke with Byron Saxton’s for WWE.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

When asked to describe himself, Jose said he’s one-man fiesta. When he was younger, he used to have a volatile temper. “The way I see it, there ain’t no way you’re wiping this smile off of my face. That’s what I’m all about now: a nickname to remind me of where I came from, along with a smile and carefree attitude to show where we can end up.”

Having traveled the world, he’s experienced many different cultures. One thing that’s stood out to him as a constant theme no matter the location is dance. He explains that dance and several other influences contribute to his unique in-ring sstyle.

“From the samba in Brazil, merengue and bachata in the Dominican Republic, to polka in Germany and even the can-can in France, dance is universal,” he said. “I’m trying to create my own from the lessons I’ve learned, and it seems like dance-fighting is becoming a thing. It’s like capoeira, but not as smooth. Incorporate that with some of the highlights of my childhood sport, baseball, which is huge in the Dominican Republic, and it all just fits naturally for me in the ring.”

When asked which NXT wrestlers he’s looking forward to getting in the ring with, Jose named NXT Champion Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura and Manny Andrade.
