WWE’s Omos Is Ready for a 100,000-seat Show in Africa

WWE is unquestionably the biggest wrestling promotion around and the company’s influence can be felt all around the world.

While much of the company’s work takes place in the United States, WWE will travel to Cardiff, Wales this September for their Clash at the Castle event.

Cardiff’s Principality Stadium can hold up to 74,500 fans, but one Raw Superstar is ready for an even bigger event in the continent of Africa.

Omos’ is Confident

Speaking on BT Sport WWE, Raw Superstar Omos discussed Clash at the Castle, which is happening after Drew McIntyre promised a Premium Live Event in the UK.

When asked if a WWE PLE could ever happen in the near future on African soil, Omos was positive that an event will come soon enough.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, we can definitely have a 100,000 or more sold out show in Africa.”

Omos to WWE’s The Bump

Omos gave the South African capital of Johannesburg as an example of where this hypothetical Premium Live Event.

While Johannesburg is home to the two largest stadiums in Africa, neither has the capacity to sell out 100,000 seats.

The FNB Stadium in the Gauteng region of Johannesburg has a capacity of 94,736, while the Ellis Park Stadium, also in Gauteng can hold 62,567 fans.

Wrestling and Africa

The African continent has a close relationship with Wrestling, including having its own promotions.

Perhaps the biggest promotion is the AWA (African Wrestling Alliance) which was founded in 1995 as the African Wrestling Federation.

WWE has also made several trips to Africa over the years, with two title changes happening during a tour in 2007.

During a live event in Capetown, Paul London and Brian Kendrick captured the World Tag Team Championships from Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch.

On the final night of the tour, Cade and Murdoch won the titles back in Johannesburg.

Original Plan for this week’s Steel Cage Match Between Bobby Lashley and Omos

WWE was going to collapse the ring as part of their original plans for this week’s Steel Cage match between Bobby Lashley and Omos.

On Raw, the two competed in a match Lashley won, after being thrown into the wall of the cage which collapsed under his weight.

According to WrestleVotes on Twitter, the match was supposed to feature a spot where the ring collapsed but this was nixed.

Will Lashley-Omos III be Inside Hell in a Cell?

While Lashley got the win this week, his victory was far from clean, and he and Omos are still tied at Premium Live Events.

Lashley got the win at WrestleMania 38 while Omos defeated “The All Mighty” at WrestleMania Backlash in Lashley’s first televised pinfall loss in seven months.

While a rubber match seems likely to take place at Hell in a Cell, the question is whether the match will take place inside the Cell itself.

WWE currently has just one Cell match confirmed for the June 5, Premium Live Event: Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins.

This week’s Steel Cage match was Omos’ first time inside a structure and may have been a test to see how he’d fair inside Hell in a Cell.

Spoiler: Omos To Face Former WWE Champion At WrestleMania 38

WWE has some big plans for Omos at WrestleMania 38 next month as WrestleVotes initially reported that Omos will face an opponent that might “surprise” people at the event in Dallas, Texas at AT&T Stadium.

The current plan calls for Omos to face Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania (via Fightful). Lashley has been out of action since WWE Elimination Chamber where he suffered a storyline concussion, which was done to cover up his shoulder injury with the expectation that he would need surgery.

He dropped the WWE Title in the Elimination Chamber match. Initial reports estimated that Lashley would require four months to recover from the surgery, but it looks like he is coming back sooner than expected.  As of this writing, it has yet to be confirmed that Lashley is cleared to compete.

WWE has been pushing him since he made his main roster arrival as he had a successful run as a tag team with AJ Styles and since the split, he has been picking up squash wins on Monday Night Raw in recent weeks.

Update On Omos Missing RAW

Omos was scheduled to face AJ Styles on last night’s RAW from Detroit. The match didn’t happen, however. Instead, Styles faced and defeated Apollo Crews. According to a report from PW Insider, Omos did travel to Detroit for the show.

Omos was not backstage as RAW was taking place, however. Rather, he had been sent home earlier in the day. No reason was given for his absence on television and it is not clear what led to him being sent home. Omos had previously performed on WWE’s live event in Madison Square Garden on December 26th.

WWE has had numerous Superstars out of action as of late. The speculation is that these absences are due to health and safety protocols regarding COVID-19 but that cannot be confirmed. Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins, Bianca Belair, Bobby Lashley, Big E, and Roman Reigns all missed WWE live events recently. Lynch, Rollins, Belair, Lashley, and Big E were not in person on last night’s RAW broadcast but did send in videos. Kevin Owens was not pulled from the recent live events, however, and is the one person from the 4-way match at Day 1 who was live on RAW last night.

Omos has been on the main roster a little over a year, mainly associating with AJ Styles. The duo are former RAW tag-team champions. Omos also won the 25-man battle royal at Survivor Series this year.

The Undertaker Shares High Praise for Omos

Wrestling legend The Undertaker has high hopes for WWE talent Omos.

The Undertaker appeared on The Bump to discuss his following plans in wrestling. He shared that he wants to have a role in talent development. When asked about his thoughts on Omos, he shared that he believes Omos is the closest fans have seen to Andre the Giant.

“… I’ll say this, there will never be another Andre, but this guy is the closest we’ve come, said The Undertaker. He admitted that it is high praise to compare Omos to Andre the Giant. However, The Undertaker also believes Omos is an exceptional talent in his own right.

Omos Career in WWE

Omos made his Monday Night Raw debut as a member of Akira Tozawa’s group of ninjas on June 15, 2020. He had different roles in WWE until he paired up with AJ Styles. With Styles, Omos won the WWE Raw Tag team Championships at Wrestlemania 37 on April 10. Their reign lasted for four months until RK-Bro defeated them at Summerslam on August 21. The team remains together, but Styles thinks that Omos could be a world champion one day.

In an interview with Ring Rules promoting WWE Crown Jewel, Styles shared his thoughts on Omos’ future. “…Omos and myself can focus on a singles run if we decide. He’ll be a champion — WWE Champion/Universal Champion soon. I have no doubt about it,” said Styles.

The Undertaker Mentoring Omos

Omos seems to have the support of his peers other than Styles. The Undertaker also revealed that he is giving wrestling advice to Omos. He shared on The Bump that Omos’ unique size makes him different from most wrestlers today and how he needs to protect his look.

“…Omos is special. The big thing for him to know and realize is that he is special and that he is different from everybody else,” said the Undertaker. He continued, “…The average size of the wrestler, in general, is smaller than what it was. So here’s this guy who is incredibly athletic and is incredibly huge, he just a big strong man. It’s important for him to protect that. Sometimes guys don’t understand what that means. He and I have had a couple of conversations about what he should do and what he shouldn’t do and if things get too heated, call me.”

Omos had a successful first year in WWE, and his peers have high aspirations for him. It’s up to Omos to try to live up to them.

AJ Styles Believes Omos Is A Future WWE World Champion

AJ Styles is of the belief that Omos can lay claim to a world title in WWE someday.

Styles and Omos are the former Raw Tag Team Champions. They ended up losing the titles at WWE SummerSlam against RKBro (Randy Orton & Riddle). Styles and Omos were unsuccessful in their bids to reclaim the gold, at least so far.

AJ Styles Has Confidence In Omos As A Singles Star

Styles spoke to the folks at Ring Rules and he expressed his belief that Omos will eventually become a WWE world champion.

“Omos and myself can focus on a singles run if we decide. Like you said before He’ll be a champion — WWE Champion/Universal Champion soon. I have no doubt about it.”

AJ Styles remains on the Monday Night Raw brand following the draft but he said it doesn’t matter which show he’s on.

“I prefer whatever I’m on, it doesn’t matter if it’s Raw or SmackDown. I’m going to do what I gotta do. You know, both, you know, SmackDown and Raw, it doesn’t matter. I enjoy both. I enjoy being a part of WWE.”

It was reported that WWE considered splitting up the team of Styles and Omos by having them drafted to separate brands. Obviously, that plan didn’t materialize.

WWE Had Considered Breaking Up AJ Styles And Omos During Draft (Report)

WWE had considered breaking up a number of tag teams during the recently concluded Draft, and it appears one of them was the team of AJ Styles and Omos.

According to Wrestlevotes Twitter account, the officials had considered breaking up this duo. The discussion was serious enough to the point where their split was the plan.

However, some people of power including a main Raw talent expressed that Omos wasn’t quite ready for a singles run yet. The decision-makers listened to this and pulled back on their break up:

AJ Styles and Omos was not the only team that was in discussion for a breakup. WWE officials had also considered splitting up the Street Profits during the Draft.

They wanted to keep Angelo Dawkins on SmackDown. Montez Ford would have moved to Raw with his wife Bianca Belair. Though these plans were nixed as well. All three of them ended up being drafted to Raw.

AJ Styles has been teaming up with Omos since April this year. The two even won the Raw tag team titles at WrestleMania. They dropped the championship to Randy Orton and Riddle at SummerSlam.

The duo is set for a rematch against Orton and Riddle at the upcoming Crown Jewel PPV. You can check out the card for the show here.

Tag Team Title Match Signed For WWE Crown Jewel

Another title match has been added to the WWE Crown Jewel event.

WWE will be making its way back to Saudi Arabia on Oct. 21. The show will feature the highly-anticipated WWE Universal Title match between champion Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. A triple threat match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship between Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair, and Sasha Banks will also be featured at Crown Jewel.

We now have another title match added to the mix. Raw Tag Team Champions Riddle and Randy Orton will put their gold on the line against AJ Styles and Omos in a rematch. RK-Bro defeated Styles and Omos for the tag team championships back in August at the Summerslam event.

Here’s the official word from WWE:

“At WWE Crown Jewel, WWE Raw Tag Team Champions RK-Bro will go head-to-head with former titleholders AJ Styles & Omos in what is sure to be an explosive WWE Raw Tag Team Title rematch.”

Orton has missed a few dates as of late. It was reported by PWInsider that he hadn’t been cleared to compete. It seems that whatever issues Randy Orton had have been resolved.

WWE Crown Jewel will also feature the King of the Ring and Queen’s Crown finals. While it hasn’t been announced, Goldberg is expected to meet former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley in a rematch at Crown Jewel.

Omos Reflects On Embarrassing Moment In Front Of The Undertaker

WWE Raw superstar Omos has revealed the time where he was on the receiving end of an embarrassing moment in front of The Undertaker.

Omos has been portrayed as an intimidating giant on WWE TV. He has found great success with AJ Styles. The two reigned as Raw Tag Team Champions for 133 days. They ended up losing the titles to Randy Orton and Riddle at SummerSlam.

While Omos is an intimidating figure, not even he is immune from embarrassing situations. During an appearance on Rasslin’ With Brandon F. Walker, Omos admitted he did indeed rip his pants in front of The Undertaker and two other legends.

“Yes, that did happen. So, at the [Performance Center] we have events that we call ‘PC Lives’. And the day before the PC Live, this was I think, right before the Mania in New York. Everyone came down and came to town. It was just like ‘You know what? We’re doing that tomorrow, if you have any dress-up attire, bring it.’ As you can tell, I like my pants skinny, and I had skinny dress pants. I put them on, and [they said] something about rehearsals. You’re going to hop over the top rope. I did it one time, and I’m fine. I did it one time and they said ‘You have to do it again.’ I said ‘Brother, my pants are going to rip.’ And they said ‘Oh no, no.’ I did it again and I got comfortable. And the fourth time I tried to go, it rips, literally.

“I’m just like, ‘What am I going to do?’ I can’t go home; I don’t have another pair of pants. Let’s go on with the show. So, the whole time I’m doing the show I’m standing at ringside and my whole backside is just exposed. They have Undertaker, Batista, Hunter. Everybody’s there. And my butt is just hanging out.”

Randy Orton & Matt Riddle Win WWE Raw Tag Team Titles

AJ Styles and Omos put the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships on the line in a match against Randy Orton and Matt Riddle at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event

The match opened the show. The finish saw Styles get out of a roll up and Orton hit the RKO for the win. Thus, we have new champions.

Orton had been off TV for several weeks before making his return on the August 9th edition of WWE Raw. It was reported that the reason he had been off TV was due to him being placed on the disabled/inactive list, but there were no issues between Orton and the company.

Before his hiatus, the future WWE Hall of Famer was last seen in action on the June 21st episode of Raw where he lost to John Morrison in a Money in the Bank qualifying match. He was later advertised for the last chance qualifying match, but Riddle ended up replacing him in the match.

It was said that WWE did have creative plans for Orton and Riddle through SummerSlam, but “the unforeseen circumstances of Orton’s absence required an audible be called.” Once Orton returned, he was put into the feud with Styles and Omos.

What are your thoughts on Randy Orton and Matt Riddle winning the Raw Tag Team Titles? Was this the right call by WWE officials? Sound off in the comment section.

Omos Reveals He Solely Trained Singles Matches At Performance Center

Omos is currently one-half of the Raw Tag Team Champions but he only trained for singles action.

After playing basketball in high school and at the University of South Florida, Omos decided to make the jump to sports entertainment. In early 2019, it was announced that Omos signed on to train at the WWE Performance Center.

Omos currently teams with former two-time WWE Champion AJ Styles. As mentioned, the two hold tag team gold but it’s something that Omos wasn’t expecting.

During an appearance on Rasslin with Brandon Walker, Omos revealed that he solely trained for singles matches at the Performance Center.

“Through my training at the PC, all I did was singles. When I came up (to the main roster), I was doing a tag team, so it was an adjustment mentally for me. Having to learn different spots where guys come in and the hot tags. It was different. I’ve been learning a lot in the past four months. I think I’m getting the hang of it now. One of the hardest matches we did was the Money in the Bank against Viking Raiders. That was very challenging for me, but after that, it was like, ‘Oh, I get it now.’ I fully get tag team (wrestling) and can remember spots and do all this stuff.”

While Omos has mostly been involved in tag team action since making his way to the main roster, he was last seen going one-on-one with Randy Orton. He lost the match via disqualification.

Omos and Styles will defend their WWE Raw Tag Team Titles against Orton and Riddle. The title match will take place at SummerSlam on Aug. 21.

AJ Styles & Omos Dethrone New Day As WWE Raw Tag Team Champions

The New Day made their latest defense of the WWE Raw Tag Team Titles against AJ Styles and Omos on the first night of WrestleMania 37.

The match happened in the middle of the pay-per-view event. It featured The New Day beating down AJ for the first few minutes. When Omos got the first tag, he got a nice pop. Omos no sold their moves and tossed them around the ring. Omos got the win with a powerslam.

Less than a month ago on an episode of Monday Night Raw, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods beat Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander to win the Raw Tag Team Titles when Kingston connected with a foot stomp off the top rope for the win.

This was a significant win for The New Day as they set their personal record of holding the straps 11-times and surpassed Dudley Boyz for the most Tag Team Championship reigns in WWE by a set of partners reigning together.

WWE was quick to move onto the next program as Styles cut their celebration short by walking down to the ring with his bodyguard to cut a promo about how he’s held all the titles in WWE except for the tag team straps. As a result, he issued the challenge for a match at the biggest event of the year for WWE.
