Pete Dunne On Preferring To Stay In NXT UK Over US

The Bruiserweight Pete Dunne has held the WWE United Kingdom Championship for 628+ days since winning it on NXT’s TakeOver Chicago event in May 2017.

He recently spoke with Emirati publication The National where he talked about whether he would like to stay in the United Kingdom or move to the main roster, among other things.

The face of NXT UK said that he doesn’t feel like his career is a race and he is not in a rush to move to the main roster and work in the United States and would like to take his time.

“I think there’s two sides to that. So there’s a side that this isn’t a race, like personally for my career this isn’t a race. I’m 25 years old so if I can build this and spend a few years doing this and then maybe go to NXT in the US and have more of a full-time schedule there and then eventually work my way to main roster, it’s definitely a slow burner, I think that’s a good thing.”

But on the other hand, if he was asked to choose between the main roster or stay in UK, Dunne says that he would pick the latter because of his passion about the British wrestling scene.

“But then the other side of it is sort of what I want do and if I had my choice right now I’d still be here. If I had the option to go to main roster, if I had the option to go more full time in Orlando I’d still be here because I’ve been passionate about British wrestling because I’ve been a part of this when it was literally non-existent. So to bring it to this point is just exciting to see how far we can keep pushing it.”

Dunne also talked about a potential feud with Walter, what he thinks of WWE’s expansion in the UK and more. You can check out the entire interview by clicking here.

NXT UK (02/13) Matches Set

WWE’s UK division will be airing its latest show tonight on WWE Network. The brand has been on a roll since the Takeover: Blackpool show and this week’s show is set to be big.

Pete Dunne will be taking on Wolfgang in the main event. The WWE United Kingdom Champion has been seeing off all comers since the Takeover show. Wolfgang of Gallus will be looking to get the team back to winning ways after Mark Coffey lost to WALTER last week. Dunne was clearly paying close attention to the main event last week, WALTER is being portrayed as a top Superstar in the UK brand and a match with Dunne is all but inevitable.

NXT UK Women’s Champion Toni Storm will also be in action. The Mae Young Classic 2 winner will be opening the show. Storm is one of the top Superstars from the UK scene. The Australian Superstar is being touted for a move to the main roster within the next year, such is her appeal and ability.

Noam Dar will also be taking on Jordan Devlin. Devlin is one of the most underrated performers on the UK scene and has been building his brand for the OTT promotion in his native Ireland. Jinny will also be locking horns with NXT’s Mia Yim

Drew McIntyre Names NXT UK Superstar As One To Watch

Drew McIntyre has been a force to be reckoned with since returning to WWE. Once referred to as “The Chosen One” by Vince McMahon, McIntyre would leave WWE in 2014 only to return a different man in 2017.

Despite finding new success for himself as “The Scottish Psychopath,” McIntyre is still keeping an eye on the entire WWE roster, including those in NXT and NXT UK.

In an interview with Wrestling Inc., McIntyre highlighted one talent in particular that he believes is primed for great things. When asked which Superstar the WWE Universe should be following as one to watch, McIntyre had one name ready: Pete Dunne.

“It’s hard not to say that Pete Dunne’s not the best considering he’s had the title for a number of years,” McIntyre said. “But there’s so many good guys and I’ve worked with the majority of them so I know how good they actually are.”

He would go on to admit that the prominent style in WWE NXT UK is his favorite style to watch and utilize.

“Everyone’s very physical in the ring and that’s my favorite style — the British style.”

Would you like to see a main roster feud between McIntyre and Dunne? Who do you think would come out on top?

NXT UK Results (01/24)

NXT UK’s momentous Takeover: Blackpool event created a buzz behind the brand that was missing initially. The card featured some stellar matches with the NXT UK Tag Team Title bout between Moustache Mountain and Grizzled Young Veterans effectively stealing the show. Pete Dunne and Joe Coffey also put on an impressive performance in the main event. The match was for the WWE United Kingdom Championship and Dunne once again defended successfully.

This week’s episode of NXT UK featured the aftermath of the Takeover: Blackpool event. Here’s the full results from the week’s show (01/24):

  • Pete Dunne addressed the crowd, saying at Takeover: Blackpool “we made history!” Gallus then appeared to attack Dunne before WALTER made the save. WALTER then stood toe to toe with Dunne, WALTER eyeing the WWE United Kingdom Championship before leaving the ring.

Pete Dunne Responds To Disgruntled Fan

Pete Dunne survived a war against Joe Coffey during the main event of NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool. After the match, he would then find himself confronted by the mountainous Austrian, WALTER, who made his intentions for Dunne’s retained NXT UK Championship clear.

If you think that wasn’t bad enough, now Dunne has had to defend himself against disgruntled fans online.

A Twitter user, “J.B.”, called out Dunne post-TakeOver event in order to try and shame him for not posing for a photograph with another fan. Given the thread that is still currently available online, it appears as though the fan who initially wanted a photograph is J.B.’s daughter.

His initial tweet read:

“Pity Pete Dunne refused to have a picture with you. 2 seconds out of his life and he flatly refused”

https://twitter.com/Citizen_baker/status/1084600570982354945

In response to this entitled attack, Pete Dunne, keeping a cooler head, responded:

“I was walking my 7 week old daughter to the car in the freezing cold Blackpool weather after already making time for people the correct side of the barrier. Many apologies for my appalling conduct.”

In the daughter’s defense, she would quickly reply to J.B.’s original post with a clearly embarrassed “delete this!!! he was carrying his 7 week old daughter i told u that after u asked him!! u wouldn’t put me down or give me to someone when i was 7 weeks old if someone asked u for a picture!!”

British Strong Style Confirms WWE NXT UK Performance Center (Video)

With their ultimate intent being to create developmental systems worldwide that can then feed into their main roster programming, WWE have continued their global expansion efforts, launching new iterations of their NXT brand globally. The first of these was WWE NXT UK.

One thing these international versions lacked compared to Florida, however, was an equivalent to their beautiful state-of-the-art Performance Center.

This morning on British morning television, the WWE NXT UK team of British Strong Style (NXT UK Champion, Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, Trent Seven) appeared on the show, Good Morning Britain, and officially announced that the UK now has one to call their own.

The trio was there in order to speak about this Saturday’s upcoming NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool event.
When speaking on the upcoming show, one of GMB’s hosts likened WWE’s UK effort as a set-up “training camp” for the UK. Seven then divulged that NXT UK now has their own PC, stating, “[…] we’re going to be able to go straight from here to our secret location, our new NXT UK Performance Center just after this.”

“The fact that we get to go back, the fact that we’ve had this investment, […] it’s pretty exciting,” Seven said.

You can watch the video in the tweet below, which has already been re-tweeted by Triple H.

Carmella Receives Praise From Former WWE Star, Interesting Pete Dunne Stat

Carmella Receives Praise From Former WWE Star

Former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella received some praise from former WWE star Lance Storm after he watched this week’s episode of SmackDown Live that saw Carmella and Charlotte Flair lose to Becky Lynch in a triple threat match in order to become the new #1 contender for the SmackDown Women’s Title.

Storm wrote on his official Twitter account, “@CarmellaWWE gets a lot of flax, from online critics, for her work, so I think it’s worth mentioning that I thought she really held up her end of the main event 3 way this week on #SDLive Not sure fans appreciate how difficult this job is.”

Interesting Pete Dunne Stat

WWE has shared an interesting stat about NXT UK Champion Pete Dunne as they mentioned in a recent tweet that he has held the title for 600 days after winning the title from inaugural champion Tyler Bate.

Dunne is slated to make his next title defense against Joe Coffey at the first-ever WWE NXT UK TakeOver special, NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool, that goes down on Saturday, January 12 at the Empress Ballroom and will air on their streaming service, the WWE Network. WWE sent out this tweet:

Pete Dunne Reflects On The Matchup That Helped Establish Him In WWE

Current NXT UK Champion, Pete Dunne, has been on a tear across the WWE landscape in recent months. Whether it’s featuring in high profile matchups in NXT, appearing on Raw, or helping to establish WWE Network’s latest iteration, NXT UK, Dunne has been delivering top-notch performances wherever he goes. His impact has already extended to setting records, as he recently celebrated 365 days as United Kingdom champion.

Sitting down for an interview with the popular podcast, E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness, Dunne opened up about his time in WWE so far, specifically mentioning the singular match that helped establish him as a major talent and one to watch: his stellar confrontation against inaugural United Kingdom champion, Tyler Bate. That match took place at NXT TakeOver: Chicago on May 20th, 2017.

“It Really Was A Massive Springboard For Us”

“The springboard — as in the big platform for wrestling fans around the world to see us — was myself and Tyler at TakeOver Chicago,” Dunne said, “because before that we’d done the UK Tournament and there was buzz in the UK about us getting our own show, but I felt there needed to be something to expose us to the whole world of wrestling fans.

[…] the feeling of being in TakeOver is completely different,” he admitted, “even though we got a lot of response and a lot of praise from the first tournament and then being able to do NXT weekly TV obviously you get a huge response compared to anything we’ve ever done before. Another step up is TakeOver. It’s a completely different feeling. I’d even argue more so than when I got the opportunity to do RAW. There’s just so many eyes on you and passionate fans that it really was a massive springboard for us.”

Do you agree? Was this the match that helped establish Dunne within WWE? If not this match, which?

Pete Dunne Passes Milestone in WWE

Pete Dunne has passed a major milestone in his short WWE career thus far. As you may have already guessed the ‘Bruiserweight’ has spent a full calendar year as WWE’s United Kingdom Champion.

With the NXT UK brand now official but still in it’s infancy Dunne has not been made to defend the title a whole lot. Pete Dunne originally won the title back at NXT Takeover: Chicago on May 20th in 2017 against Tyler Bate. That match won critical acclaim and helped to establish the UK talent and brand to hardcore NXT fans.

Some other Superstars to go a full year include CM Punk, who was WWE Champion throughout 2012. Punk of course defended his title quite a few more times than Dunne was made to. Gillberg also held on to the Light Heavyweight Championship throughout 1999 and Rockin’ Robin held the Women’s Championship throughout 1989.

There are also two other Champions who started and ended the year as title holders. Brock Lesnar started 2018 as the Universal Champion and ended the year with the belt after beating Braun Strowman. The Undisputed Era also held the NXT Tag Team Championships at the start of 2018 and recaptured their belts on June 21st from Tyler Bate and Trent Seven of Moustache Mountain.

Pete Dunne Says He Has Finished His Time In The British Indie Scene

WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne has said that he has finished wrapping up dates in the British independent wrestling scene.

Dunne and Tyler Bate had a match on the PROGRESS Wrestling’s Chapter 92: Unboxing event, where Dunne defeated Tyler. After the match Dunne tweeted out a picture of him with Tyler Bate saying that this was his last match in the independent scene.

“Finished my time on the British independent scene tonight,” wrote Dunne. “Closing out a week that saw me in New York, Germany, Spain and London. 13 years that I wouldn’t change for anything, on to the next chapter.”

Drake Maverick, the 205 Live General Manager also tweeted out a message congratulating all the British wrestlers who have done their independent dates. He wrote, “Congratulations to the British wrestlers who wrapped up their final independent dates today. Very happy for you all. Enjoy what the future brings!”

https://twitter.com/WWEMaverick/status/1079527937597161472

PROGRESS Wrestling promoter Jim Smallman also tweeted out a message thanking Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate for their contributions in PROGRESS and the British wrestling circuit.

There is no news on whether Dunne and Tyler will be working exclusively for WWE, but we will keep you updated when more information comes out.

Meanwhile, in the WWE, Pete Dunne is set to defend his WWE United Kingdom Championship against Joe Coffey at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool on 12 January from the Empress Ballroom. Make sure to check out SEScoops for coverage.

UK/European Scene Reacts to Pete Dunne’s Final Indie Match

PROGRESS held their annual ‘Unboxing’ event last night at the Electric Ballroom in Camden, London. The main event of the unannounced show saw Tyler Bate take on Pete Dunne. The company described the bout as a “rematch of the best British bout this decade.” Dunne took to Twitter earlier today and confirmed that his time on the UK’s independent scene was coming to an end. He stated “Finished my time on the British independent scene tonight. Closing out a week that saw me in New York, Germany, Spain and London. 13 years that I wouldn’t change for anything, on to the next chapter.”
Several promotions have offered their congratulations to both Dunne and Tyler Bate. PROGRESS co-owner Jim Smallman said “thank you for everything you’ve done in PROGRESS and British wrestling in general. The sky is the limit for you both. Scary how talented you both are.” wXw also tweeted congratulations to Dunne, stating that “he has certainly come a long way. We are very happy that one of the best in Europe has been wrestling in Germany three times over the last year. Good luck for your future.”
It was believed that NXT UK Superstars would be able to continue working on the British Indies just with a few caveats. British Strong Style (Dunne, Bate and Trent Seven) are however the biggest stars in the territory and WWE may well be wanting to keep their appearances to a minimum, giving their matches more of a premium vibe.

Pete Dunne Discusses Not Being Overexposed, First-Ever NXT UK TakeOver Event

WWE NXT UK Champion Pete Dunne recently spoke with Metro Sport to talk about a wide range of topics including not feeling over-exposed as NXT UK Champion since winning the title from inaugural champion Tyler Bate.

“It’s been crucial and I believe that’s the future. On the main roster it’s more difficult to avoid that exposure, but outside of that with the growth of NXT brands all over the world, I think that’s the key.” Dunne continued by stating that if he can continue to travel the world and keep this going for a few more years without feeling that massive amount of exposure, it only builds a stronger fanbase and then finally getting ready to get on the main roster it’s a more exciting prospect.

NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool goes down on Saturday, January 12 at the Empress Ballroom and will air on their streaming service, the WWE Network. You can see the expected card for this show here.

This marks the first-ever Takeover special for the NXT UK brand and something that Dunne thinks is really special as the and Bate made their names initially under this banner.

“Our lives changed overnight and over the past few years I haven’t had a single second to reflect on that because it’s been one thing to the next. For the brand it’s brilliant, and it’s the perfect venue. The audience there are really lively and most importantly it’s live. That makes such a huge difference. Doing episodic TV, you get a lot of exposure, but TakeOver is a completely different animal.”

Brandi has been building her own brand over the last year with several high profile bouts and appearances alongside Cody Rhodes.

This news comes after Fight Forever announced that NJPW star Will Ospreay will be taking on the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Cody Rhodes in a huge international bout. This will not only be a bout featuring two of the hottest stars on the independent scene but will also be a Bullet Club vs CHAOS showcase.

In an interview with FightBooth Fight Forever Wrestling’s Co-Director Simon Kay said “Cody is on top of his game, he has never been better than he is right now. Will Ospreay, arguably the best wrestler in Britain will not want to lose on home soil. This could very well be the match of the year”.

You can purchase tickets for Phenomena and all upcoming events over at fightforeverwrestling.com. Fight Forever will also be heading to London on December 7th with a co-branded show alongside ‘Something to Wrestle’ starring Conrad Thompson and Bruce Prichard.

NXT North American Champion vs WWE United Kingdom Champion
Ricochet (c) vs Pete Dunne (c)

It will be champion vs champion tonight when Ricochet clashes with Pete Dunne. The two men have been on the same side in a rivalry with the Undisputed Era but both want a crack at the others title. Both championships will be on the line tonight. The Undisputed Era might be watching this match closely as well.

This match came together as a result of an altercation the 4 competitors had recently at the WWE Performance Center. Kai defeated Aliyah in single’s action recently. Ryker’s partners in the Forgotten Sons, Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler, made their debut two weeks ago on NXT programming. The faction has been competing on NXT live events for some time, however. This week it’s time for Jaxson Ryker to debut in the men’s single’s division.

The man known as Gunner in TNA will look to make an impact tonight.
