Jim Cornette Has High Praise For WWE UK Stars

Jim Cornette is a fairly outspoken personality in the wrestling world, his views on the ‘modern’ style of pro wrestling ala The Young Bucks have been in the news once again and as always are fairly disparaging.

In a slight change to usual proceedings Cornette has some praise for a match from this week’s NXT show. The main event for the WWE UK Championship between Tyler Bate & Pete Dunne has been garnering plaudits from fans online and now Cornette has described the two young superstars as “WAAY beyond their experience level” and that they “mix modern style/WOS style well, at their ages they will be stars for years to come.

Did you enjoy the WWE UK Title match from this week’s NXT? How far do you think Bate & Dunne can go in the WWE? Let us know in the comments.

WWE UK Title Match at PROGRESS Cancelled?

PROGRESS will be holding their 59th Chapter event this afternoon from the O2 Academy in Sheffield, England.

One of the feature bouts on this already stacked card was Pete Dunne vs Joseph Conners for the WWE UK Championship, this was due to be the first time that the WWE UK title was defended in the company on UK soil and a major part of the event’s eventual On Demand ‘drawing power.’

WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne and Trent Seven took part in an OTT event this weekend in Dublin Ireland and due to the snowy weather conditions in Europe both British Strong Style members will be unable to make the PROGRESS show this afternoon.

3 Huge Title Matches Announced for PROGRESS Chapter 59 incl. The WWE UK Championship

PROGRESS Wrestlng’s 59th Chapter show ‘Whatever People Say We Are That’s What We’re Not’ will be taking place this Sunday from the O2 Academy in Sheffield and it is looking like one of the most stacked cards in company history. The promotion has just announced three absolutely huge title matches for the event and they are as follows:

WWE UK Championship Match – Pete Dunne (c) vs Joseph Conners: Dunne will be defending his WWE title in PROGRESS for the first time on UK soil. Conners has been hounding the champion ever since his recent debut in an attempt to trick Dunne into this predicament. With the hype surrounding Dunne and the excitement his appearances have generated on WWE Television recently it is unlikely that Conners gets the win…however PROGRESS are prone to providing a shock or two.

PROGRESS Tag Team Title Match – Grizzled Young Veterans (c) vs Moustache Mountain – Speaking of shocks…the Grizzled Young Veterans took the PROGRESS Tag Team titles from CCK last week and now they have their first defence lined up. The team of Tyler Bate & Trent Seven have made a huge U-Turn with the PROGRESS crowd and are once again beloved fan favourites, that being said Moustache Mountain appear to be in the same position as Pete Dunne, just awaiting the time that they can finally make a move full time to the WWE roster whether that be on a UK show or NXT.

PROGRESS World Championship Match – Travis Banks (c) vs Eddie Dennis – The fact that I’ve put this match last actually speaks volumes. Sadly Travis has not been setting the world on fire as PROGRESS Champion, his meteoric rise through the ranks of the company to beat Pete Dunne earlier this year was fantastic but the time has come to have a strong heel champion atop the PROGRESS ladder…that man could be Eddie Dennis who recently turned on his longtime friend Mark Andrews and declared that he was gunning for the World Title.

Pete Dunne Not Joining WWE Full Time Just Yet?

It looks as though WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne will not be making his way onto the WWE Roster full time in the near future…

The ‘Bruiserweight’ recently sent out a tweet confirming that he is still taking independent bookings for January and February of 2018. There has been speculation over the last few months regarding the WWE UK television show and it appears that nothing has yet been finalised.

Dunne has been taking a ‘backseat’ position on the major UK shows for companies such as ICW, PROGRESS, Rev Pro and OTT. Dunne himself confirmed on a recent PROGRESS Chapter show that his future in the UK was “up in the air” and he appears to be in a holding pattern until WWE decides exactly how they want to utilise the UK talent they have under contract.

Next WWE UK Championship Match Being Teased Online

Pete Dunne’s next challenger for the WWE UK Championship seems to be all but confirmed. Over the last few PROGRESS Chapter events fellow WWE UK Star Joseph Conners has made it his goal to hound and harass Dunne.

This was all part of Conner’s PROGRESS debut feud and it looks as though the company is lining up a WWE UK Championship match between the two men, it isn’t exactly unprecedented as the WWE UK title was defended at one of PROGRESS’ Wrestlemania weekend shows earlier this year.

WWE UK Champion vs PROGRESS World Champion Taking Place This Saturday

2017 has been quite an incredible calendar year for Pete Dunne. The WWE UK Champion made his RAW debut last night defeating WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore in front of his countrymen in Manchester, England.

Dunne is regarded as one of the hardest working performers in the UK and he isn’t making his way to the WWE full time just yet…

Top UK promotion Lucha Forever has announced that Dunne will be taking on PROGRESS World Champion Travis Banks this Saturday as part of their ‘Fire In The Booth’ event from Birmingham. Banks beat Dunne for the coveted PROGRESS Title at their Chapter 55 event back in September and now Dunne has his shot at retribution.

Pete Dunne Reveals Triple H’s Reaction When He Used The Pedigree

WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne recently did an interview with The Mirror to talk about a number of professional wrestling topics. Dunne talked about a possible WWE UK show and Triple H’s reaction to him using the pedigree. You can see the highlights here below:

A lot of people will have followed your journey on social media and seen you at live events. You, Bate and Trent [aka British Strong Style] started mimicking Triple H’s entrance – spitting out bottles of water – with you carrying a sledgehammer and using his finisher the Pedigree at independent shows. How did that come about?

“I think it just came about, it was kind of the angle we had taken on at PROGRESS at the time, that we thought we were too good for the place and moving on, using PROGRESS as a platform to get to bigger and better things. It just all sort of came from that. The fans seemed to like it and even though they were supposed to hate us, I think a part of them found it funny. It was a bit of fun that we had. And Triple H found it pretty funny himself, so that was pretty cool.”

I was going to ask whether he had mentioned it to you.

“Yeah, he did. The first time he brought it up was pretty intimidating! But he found the humour in it, so it worked out pretty well, ha ha.”

Reports suggest WWE is pitching to broadcasters including ITV and Sky for the long-mooted weekly WWE UK show. What do you make of the speculation and are you confident we will see WWE’s UK talent compete together on a regular basis soon?

“I personally haven’t heard anything, but WWE haven’t exactly been quiet about the fact that their aim is to do a full time UK brand show. They have been quite open about that from the start. It’s still something I’m holding out for, that’s the ideal situation for me right now. A lot of people ask do I want to do NXT, or do I want to do main roster. I would love to be able to start something new and build a UK brand that we can all be proud of. I’m so proud of the tournament that we did and the tapings that we did in Norwich and the small part of NXT shows that we’ve had the chance to do stuff with. To be able to build something from the ground up, that would be really exciting to me. So fingers crossed. As of right now, I haven’t heard anything more that anyone else, but I’m still hopeful.”

WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne To Make Major Announcement at PROGRESS this Sunday

WWE UK Champion and Former PROGRESS World Champion Pete Dunne will be appearing at PROGRESS Chapter 56 this Sunday and he will be taking to the ring to address fans and management of the company.

Although the nature of Dunne’s appearance has not been revealed it is likely that his tenure with the company will be coming to an end at some point soon due to his involvement with WWE.

Rumors are surfacing regarding WWE’s upcoming plans for the UK Division and they will want to have their UK Champion available in a likely exclusive capacity.

WWE Reviving King Of The Ring For New UK Series?

WWE continues to develop the long-rumored project featuring talent exclusively from the United Kingdom. PWInsider published a detailed report about what’s currently in the works. Here are the highlights:

– The working title for the project is “WWE King of the Ring.” It’s unknown at this time whether or not the UK series would feature the tournament format that KOTR has been known for previously.

– While the project was initially conceptualized as a WWE Network series, WWE has been in talks with several UK TV broadcasters, including ITV.

– The show would be produced in the UK and would feature all British athletes.

  • 3 UK Independent Stars To Look Out For

Back in August, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that WWE was looking to launch the series by the end of the year. At one point, there were plans to hold the first tapings back in June, which never materialized. With this latest update from PWInsider, it would appear that securing a UK TV deal is the biggest factor dictating the timeframe of the series.

Pete Dunne is the reigning WWE UK Champion and WWE has been using some of the UK talent in NXT while they work on getting the UK series off the ground. Other UK performers on the roster include Tyler Bate, Trent Seven, Wolfgang and Mark Andrews

WWE’s strong push in to the UK market was initially seen as a response to ITV airing new episodes of a World of Sport wrestling series, but that project appears to be on hold indefinitely.

WWE COO Triple H appeared on The World According To Wrestling podcast last month and admitted that ITV working on a World of Sport revival affected WWE’s plans for a UK series. ITV aired a World of Sport special last December.

“Did it change our timing a little bit because of when they positioned their show? Yeah, but we are talking by maybe months or something not speeding up the process in terms of getting it done. We’ve been working on this for a long time. Any other show aside, if they are successful I’m happy for them. And, at the end of the day, it all helps the industry so we just do what we do. And I think we do it better than anyone else on the planet.”

World of Sport announced a partnership with Anthem last March to bring the series back to ITV, with an initial commission for a 10-part series. Tapings were scheduled for May, but eventually were cancelled with no further announcements.

Mojo Rawley On Hype Bros Wasting Their Opportunities, UK Title Match Tonight On NXT

Mojo Rawley backstage interview

On this week’s episode of SmackDown, the Hype Bros faced off against Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin. The Hype Bros didn’t put up too much of a fight and Gable & Benjamin cruised to a quick victory. After the match, Mojo Rawley shook hands with Gable and Benjamin. Zack Ryder wasn’t too fond of that and refused to show sportsmanship. Instead, Ryder exited the ring and stormed backstage, leaving his tag partner behind.

WWE uploaded a new SmackDown Fallout video with Mojo Rawley backstage. Rawley gave credit to Gable and Benjamin in their victory tonight. Mojo said that the loss was very disappointing for the Hype Bros and before Ryder got injured they were number one contenders. Rawley said that after Ryder got hurt he won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and accomplished a lot.

Mojo claimed that the Hype Bros cannot even win a match right now and that they are wasting their opportunities. Rawley said that he doesn’t know what is wrong right now, but they better figure it out quickly. Rawley then walked away.
