Jey Uso Discusses Paul Heyman’s Key Role in WWE’s Bloodline Despite TV Absence

Jey Uso, in an exclusive interview with Peter Rosenberg for Rosenberg Wrestling at ComplexCon 2024, provided insights into Paul Heyman’s continued importance to the Bloodline storyline, even as Heyman remains absent from WWE television.

Jey reassured fans that Heyman’s influence transcends his on-screen presence, describing the “Wiseman” as an indispensable figure in the family’s WWE journey. “The Wiseman is really the Wiseman to my family. He’s been around my family more than 50 years,” Jey revealed, emphasizing Heyman’s deep-rooted connection to the Anoa’i family.

Heyman’s behind-the-scenes contributions remain vital, according to Jey, who highlighted his mentor’s role in refining promos, strategizing storylines, and advocating for the family’s success.

“Even when he’s not on TV, he’s there. All the backstage stuff—‘Say this. Maybe say it like this. Do this. Do that.’ He’s a big player to vouch for you and push for you. Any problem we have, we go to him. He makes it happen for my family. We love him.”

Heyman’s Absence Fuels Speculation

Paul Heyman’s absence was notably spotlighted during the November 15 episode of SmackDown. In a key segment, Roman Reigns attempted to contact Heyman, only to encounter a “number not in service” message. This led to widespread speculation among fans about Heyman’s status within the Bloodline.

Jey dispelled concerns about Heyman’s position, clarifying that his lack of on-screen appearances does not detract from his crucial behind-the-scenes involvement. “He’s still very much a part of everything we do,” Jey affirmed.

Future Return and Survivor Series

While no definitive timeline for Heyman’s return to television has been provided, Jey’s remarks hint at his continued influence on the ongoing Bloodline narrative. This has only heightened intrigue surrounding the faction’s upcoming Survivor Series WarGames match on November 30.

Jey Uso and the Bloodline are set to face a formidable lineup, including Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Bronson Reed. Whether Heyman will make a surprise appearance remains uncertain, but his behind-the-scenes contributions to the storyline continue to solidify the Bloodline’s dominance in WWE.

Peter Rosenberg Is Ready For WrestleMania & Thinks Seth Rollins Is Too (Exclusive)

Peter Rosenberg will be involved with WrestleMania once again this year, but the tenured NYC radio host should have some additional duties on tap for Philadelphia.

Last year at WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles Rosenberg had the opportunity to give fans an in-depth point-of-view tour of how the backstage area and the stage was laid out for LA’s SoFi Stadium. Rosenberg also was apart of the pre-show but he hinted to SEScoops that he may be apart of some additional duties this year as well.

However, it’s been an interesting road for Rosenberg to find his way into WrestleMania and WWE. He first was given full access backstage to WrestleMania 32 in 2016 by Jonathan Coachman, where basically shadowed the former ESPN personality. That is where he met Chris Chambers, former WWE VP of Television Strategy.

“He has a really illustrious career. He just recently retired and is just a tremendous guy and he was the first person who sort of heard me talk, heard my passion, heard the other places that I was working…

“It was kind of like, you know, to kind of see ‘how you could be useful here,’ you know? And he was like, ‘Do me a favor, reach out to me, you know, when you get back.”

At first, Peter didn’t hear back, but followed up and the gears got into motion. Soon enough he was with Sam Roberts hosting a new show, Bring It To The Table that also featured Corey Graves and JBL.

Now being involved with the company for nearly a decade, Rosenberg still doesn’t look at it as work.

“‘Work’ is probably not the right way to put it. It’s a reprieve for me. It’s something I truly look forward to doing.”

Peter Rosenberg Thinks Seth Rollins Is A-Okay In How He’s Positioned For WrestleMania

Peter Rosenberg will not be the only one pulling double duty at WrestleMania. Seth Rollins, like Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, will be in two matches over the weekend.

Rosenberg was asked about his thoughts on the incorporation of The Rock as “The Final Boss” a persona he was initially adverse to, but got more invested when realizing he was being heeled by the moniker.

He believes The Rock is such a big name that his brand takes up a lot of space. Ds The Rock, Roman and Cody give Seth Rollins an “odd man out” vibe? An argument could be made for Seth, but Rosenberg feels that the WWE World Heavyweight Champion is still in a very good position.

“It’s okay. Like, okay – Seth is playing second fiddle slightly to Cody Rhodes, who’s having the hottest moment of his career, [and] in my opinion, is the most over babyface in maybe 20 years. The Rock was one of the greatest of all time and is back in a real way for the first time in forever and Roman Reigns, who’s on a historic Hogan like title run. Like let’s not act as if being the fourth player in that story is some horrible thing. I mean, not everyone can be ‘1’ and ‘1A’

“Seth is still I think is still in an incredible spot for Seth, and I think he’s doing great and guess what? I think the story is going to end up being told for him too.”

Before WrestleMania 40 officially fires off on Saturday and Sunday, Rosenberg will host “The Michael Kay Show” live at WrestleMania World on Thursday, April 4 from 3 to 6:30 PM ET. Then, later on that evening he will do a live show of his wrestling podcast, “Cheap Heat” at the Fringe Arts also in Philadelphia. You can tune into our full interview with Rosenberg below.

Is This Really a War?

Is This Really a War?

The time has finally come for All Elite Wrestling to make their mark in the landscape of professional wrestling. Like WWE, they are run by a billionaire (Shad Kahn who is reportedly worth over six billion dollars is the primary investor).  Also lIke WWE, they have a weekly show on a major cable network (though WWE’s primary show is now Smackdown which debuts on Fox this Friday). Unlike WWE, they have never ever done this before.

WWE has been creating weekly episodic television for over 25 years. They have also survived competition before. I use the word “survived” purposefully. The WWE did not “beat” WCW as is often portrayed in documentaries and conversations about the famed “Monday Night War” . They simply survived by doing what they do best and trusting WCW would eventually implode, which they did. If they do the same thing now, they will get the same result. The only chance AEW has to truly compete with WWE, if that is in fact their goal, would be to somehow rattle Vince McMahon by making a huge splash early on and forcing him into unforced errors. I do not that think that is likely, but considering the reactionary decision by WWE to put their very popular developmental product, NXT, on USA directly opposed to AEW, anything is possible.

For the most part, AEW has played it humble and claimed that they do not expect to beat WWE. Pretty regularly, though, you hear strong hints of a desire for AEW to compete with the big dogs in Stamford. Most of that desire likely comes from the heart and mind of Cody Rhodes, the son of a son of a plumber and a former WWE talent himself, who has been on an inspiring journey since he left the WWE and started traveling the world several years ago. Rhodes is the most compelling story behind the scenes of AEW. However, he is not the best wrestler on the roster, and that is by design. The roster is loaded with wrestlers  who are as physically capable as some of the best WWE superstars. With this kind of talent, AEW believes that they can out-wrestle WWE. They have pointed out that the WWE product is too much talk and not enough wrestling and that the AEW product will emphasize in ring action. Sounds great.

I think.

I love the art of professional wrestling. I have no use for opera or ballet. The dance of two great wrestlers telling a story in the ring is one of my favorite things to watch. That is what I fell in love with as a seven year old. But with the WWE’s entire library available on their own Network that I happily pay for (and occasionally host on for full disclosure) — how do you get me excited to watch new wrestlers work instead of spending my time watching the build to Wrestlemania IV?

Some of it comes from great wrestling, but in 2019, it is more about charismatic characters telling compelling stories. This is where I have the most concern for AEW. Do they have the charismatic characters? Yes I believe they do. In Kenny Omega, they have the best wrestler in the world to never work in WWE. They have Chris Jericho, whose work is still pretty solid and whose character is as perfectly obnoxious as ever. Darby Allin is must-see TV. Watching him wrestle is like watching Steve-O from Jackass if he was an unbelievable athlete. Awesome Kong was on her way to stardom before her wrestling career took a backseat and her acting career took off  (including a lead role on GLOW on Netflix). I won’t even spend time on the value of The Young Bucks and Dean Ambrose who are all bonafide superstars. No, talent is not an issue.

My biggest concern may be the fact that AEW has repeatedly said that they do not want writers telling stories. They want the wrestlers to tell their own stories — unscripted! That’s not a good thing. Nor is it good when WWE takes the mic out of their best stars’ hands and gives all the power to writers who don’t understand the essence of the character. By and large, though, writers are helpful. I say this knowing that AEW will not just hand the mic to their stars and say “have at it Pal” but regardless, the conundrum is the fact that AEW thinks they can succeed by not doing the very same things that have ultimately worked for keeping a wrestling show on television in the modern era.

I am so excited for the competition to begin. It benefits everyone, especially the fans.

But is this a war? No.

Not yet.

Peter Rosenberg Explains Why He’s No Longer With WWE

Peter Rosenberg is no longer appearing on WWE pre-show panels. He addressed his situation with the company recently on ESPN Radio.

Rosenberg mentioned he’s experienced some challenges in his life recently and those challenges led to him taking time away from WWE.

“Those challenges led to me deciding to take some time off from traveling for WWE,” Rosenberg said. “When I came back to WWE and was ready to work WrestleMania, those who make the decisions on those things (Michael Cole) were no longer interested in using me for that.”

Peter Rosenberg No Longer With WWE

He continued to mention that WrestleMania came and went and there was not a place for him.

“That’s when you heard the bitterness kick in,” he continued.

Rosenberg was not impressed with Watch Along, noting that too many people talk over each other on the show.

He would continue to say he would be interested in doing more shows on the WWE Network, however.

“I consider my relationship with them and the Network to be great,” Rosenberg continued. “If there’s an opportunity to do shows on the Network again, I would love to do it. I thought ‘Bring it to the Table’ could have been great.”

Ric Flair Goes Jewelry Shopping With Peter Rosenberg (Video)

If ever there was a pro wrestling bucket list, Rolex shopping with the Ric Flair has to be up there. The legendary Nature Boy appeared on Peter Rosenberg’s Open Late with Peter Rosenberg show on Complex to promote the release of WWE 2K19. The two went jewelry shopping in New York City so Rosenberg could purchase his first Rolex.

Flair and Rosenberg’s jewelry shopping adventure begins around the 11-minute mark of this video:

Ric Flair on “Open Late With Peter Rosenberg”

Flair advised Rosenberg during the trip to be careful not to spend too much money. Rosenberg is married to MLB Network host Alexa Datt and Flair was quick to explain he didn’t want to purchase any jewelry which would cause his wife to worry. He did stress that if Rosenberg wants to be seen as one of the top celebrities in New York, however, he needs some flashy jewelry.

“You are Peter Rosenberg,” Flair said. “You cannot be one of the top 3 or 4 celebrities in New York City and not have a little bling – You want to walk through the door – You want to push it open – You want the sunlight to hit the diamonds – You want someone to turn around. In my case, it would have been a woman years ago. In your case, just your kids and family.”

One thing Flair was adamant about, however, was that purchasing a used Rolex is simply not acceptable.

WWE Personality Wants To Manage Carmella, A Look Back At SummerSlam ’89, Seth Rollins

– James Ellsworth’s future in WWE appears uncertain after Asuka annihilated the man himself to the tune of kicks, strikes and a smothering Asuka Lock following her loss to Carmella last Sunday at Extreme Rules. Then two days later on SmackDown LIVE, General Manager Paige asked Carmella how “her boyfriend” is doing. Carmella appeared disgusted, saying “eww” and that he’s not her boyfriend.

With Ellsworth seemingly out of the picture as Carmella’s associate, WWE Network personality Peter Rosenberg wants to give the SmackDown Women’s Champion “a real manager.”

On Friday, Rosenberg responded to Carmella’s latest Instagram post with the following: “I have so many ideas for when I supplant @jamesellsworthwrestling and give you a real manager!”

Corey Graves Talks Will Ospreay vs Ricochet on Bring It To The Table, Ospreay Reacts

Corey Graves had some interesting comments regarding the …dive controversy on the latest episode of WWE Network exclusive ‘Bring It To The Table’.

Graves (alongside JBL and Peter Rosenberg) spoke at length about Randy Orton’s original tweet, his back and forth with Bully Ray/Bubba Ray Dudley and the Independent scene. Unsurprisingly both JBL and Graves were outspoken about the subject with JBL lambasting some independent performers as working “stupid.”

Graves disagreed with JBL and cited Will Ospreay vs Ricochet from last year’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament as an example of well planned and well executed high flying wrestling. Ospreay has since taken to Twitter to show his appreciation for Graves’ comments:

Peter Rosenberg Defends JBL, Discusses Dave Meltzer & Justin Roberts

Peter Rosenberg addressed the JBL bullying scandal on the latest episode of his podcast “Cheap Heat“. Rosenberg also now works for WWE and hosts “Bring It To The Table” alongside JBL. This story started to get more attention after JBL criticized Mauro Ranallo for posting a list from Dave Meltzer and the Wrestling Observer. Mauro Ranallo was named announcer of the year by the Wrestling Observer and tweeted about it. JBL made fun of Ranallo for that on “Bring It To The Table”.

Here are some highlights of what Rosenberg said during the episode:

JBL Not Acknowledging The Wrestling Observer

“He takes a jab at Mauro, and if you go back and watch, it was utterly not that serious. As were many of the things we did on that episode. Guys, we have legitimate takes on that show but it is WWE programming, none of it is that serious. More importantly to me, it was not that he teased Mauro, it was that he didn’t even recognize The Observer at all. JBL utterly buried Meltzer and The Observer. That has to be noted because who has been the number one person pushing this story? Dave Meltzer and The Observer.

So are you going to tell me Dave, because you think people like me and everyone else that speaks on this is a cooperate shill… and Jonathan Coachman who you said falsely was the target of JBL’s bullying which just isn’t true. You (Meltzer) are going to call everyone else a shill and say that they have an agenda, but you don’t have an agenda? Even after JBL buried you? JBL called it a random internet list and gave no credit to it, I’m sure that bothered Meltzer.”

JBL Criticizing Mauro Ranallo For “Putting Himself Over”

“It was a little bit poor form to post the list. If someone posted a list and said who is the best radio personalities in the game? Number one was Peter Rosenberg, I probably wouldn’t post that or retweet that just because it made me look good and buries everyone else that I work with. Do I think he is a bad guy for posting that? No. Do I think it is worth a joke or two? Yes. I think a joke or two is totally in bounds.

Do I know everything that has ever transpired between JBL and Mauro Ranallo? Absolutely not. The idea that Mauro Ranallo is leaving WWE because of a joke on “Bring It To The Table” is crazy and there are a lot of people on Twitter that believe that is it. Are you a fan of professional wrestling and you think that would be a valid reason to leave? Being teased on a show? You know what it used to be like back in the day, in the Blackjack Mulligan era,and you think someone making a joke leads to someone missing Wrestlemania? Let’s just assume that can’t be a reasonable reason to leave WWE.

I am going to defend JBL because he is the first person that I’ve worked with since I got to WWE. JBL has also given me a hard time during “Bring It To The Table” and at no point did I take any of that seriously. And when he does it on-air and off-air, I laugh and I smile back and he starts laughing. That is the kind of guy he is. Do I know everything he has ever done? No I don’t. I’m just telling you that my experience has been nothing but positive. I came into it as an outsider expecting a bit of ball-busting. Bullying is a real issue especially when it comes to children. Children being bullied is a real issue and nothing to joke about. I am not going to live in a world where a grown man making jokes to another grown man at his workplace, if it was simply jokes, is enough reason for someone to leave his workplace. I can’t subscribe to that.”

Rosenberg On Justin Roberts

“Listen I don’t know Justin Roberts, I’m sure he is a nice enough guy. I’ll tell you one thing, he very clearly had an axe to grind with WWE since the second he was released. If you are now going to believe every word he says while he is promoting a book and he has hated the company since the second he left, and you are not going to take that with a grain of salt… that is just being silly.”

You can listen to the entire episode of “Cheap Heat” on iTunes.
