This event can be watched live on NJPW World.

Power Struggle 2019 Results

Titán, Volador Jr., TJP & Clark Connors def. Jushin Thunder Liger, Tiger Mask IV, Ryusuke Taguchi & Yuya Uemura (5:43)
With the exception of Liger, this tag team match was composed of wrestlers who failed to advance to the Final in the Super Junior Tag League. Volador Jr. entered wearing a Spiderman mask and rash guard. As always, Jushin Thunder Liger was incredibly over, but work from everyone involved was brisk and fast-paced. TJP pinned Yuya Uemura after a Detonation Kick.

Bullet Club (Taiji Ishimori & El Phantasmo) def. CHAOS (Robbie Eagles & Rocky Romero) (8:42)
With his tag team partner involved in a defense of IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, Robbie Eagles was left with Rocky Romero as a partner. Ishimori and Phantasmo used their superior experience to keep the CHAOS team apart. At one point, El Phantasmo walked the ropes with Rocky Romero in a fireman’s carry, then came crashing down on Robbie Eagles. El Phantasmo pinned Rocky Romero with the CR II.

Los Ingobernables de Japon (Shingo Takagi, SANADA & EVIL) def. Suzukigun (Lance Archer, Zack Sabre Jr. & Minoru Suzuki) (9:07)
The Suzukigun team entered to Lance Archer’s music, who walked to the ring bow-legged, carrying his newly won IWGP US Heavyweight Championship with one half of the strap in his pants. The highlight of this match was a long battle of strikes between Shingo and Minoru Suzuki. SANADA defeated Zack Sabre Jr. with a rolling cradle, as Suzuki and Shingo continued to battle outside the ring and the frustrated Zack Sabre Jr. put the referee in an armbar. Meanwhile, Lance Archer told the English commentators that he wanted to defend his IWGP US Heavyweight Championship against David Finlay.

Kota Ibushi & Hiroshi Tanahashi def. CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada & YOSHI-HASHI) (10:51)
All wrestlers received separate entrances except for YOSHI-HASHI. Tanahashi looked disinterested as Ibushi made his entrance, not wanting to be the second fiddle to the G1 Winner. He had really been focused on finding his own path to Wrestle Kingdom 14. Down the stretch, the fans really were hoping for YOSHI-HASHI, as was able to get near falls on Tanahashi. Nevertheless, Tanahashi reversed his Karma finisher. Tanahashi pinned YOSHI-HASHI with the High Fly Flow.

After the match ended, the lights went out, and a video of musicians with blonde hair getting beaten up played, then transitioned to Chris Jericho on the screen. He challenged Hiroshi Tanahashi to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 14 Day 2, on January 5, 2020. He said “It’s going to be a classic match. It’s also going to be your last match!”

Tetsuya Naito def. Taichi (12:56)
In contrast to his lackadaisical attitude, Naito immediately attacked Taichi at full speed. Their fight spilled into the crowd, where Taichi was able to get the upper hand. As Naito went for an avalanche hurricanrana, Taichi reversed it into a falling powerbomb, and taunted the downed Naito. Their other matches this year involved lots of out of the ring trickery, but now, Taichi was able to face Naito head on, eating his strikes and asking for more, and countering Naito’s first attempt at the Destino. Taichi hit the falling elevated powerbomb for a near fall as the crowd gasped. Naito hit a running Destino for a near fall, falling by the Valentia. Naito attempted the Destino once more, but Taichi caught him and tried to hit the Black Mephisto, and Naito wiggled out. Naito hit his own Black Mephisto, and then the Destino for the three count.

Super Junior Tag League 2019 Final Match: Roppongi 3K (SHO & YOH) def. Suzukigun (El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) (14:13)
As Roppongi 3K entered, Suzukigun snuck up behind them and attacked them, taking an advantage before the bell rang. With that advantage, they dominated the early going, isolating YOH. SHO was able to rally when he tagged them in, but more good teamwork put him on the disadvantage as well. El Desperado went for the Pinche Loco on SHO, but it was reversed, then Roppongi 3K were able to take control when they finally worked together. El Desperado reversed the Shock Arrow and hit a headbutt, but YOH came in and Roppongi 3K were able to hit 3K to pin El Desperado and win the Super Junior Tag League. This is their third time winning the Super Junior Tag League.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Taiji Ishimori and El Phantasmo came out and attacked Roppongi 3K as they celebrated. With the tournament winners laid out, Bullet Club took the Super Junior Tag League trophies and posed with them as if they had won the tournament.

NEVER Openweight Championship Match: KENTA (c) def. Tomohiro Ishii (20:12)
KENTA had been spending the whole tour taunting Tomohiro Ishii, calling him cute and generally belittling him. His patience exhausted, Ishii had no time for KENTA’s antics, immediately going after him and bringing him back in when he tried to bail from the ring. Ishii took KENTA’s strikes and asked for more, but eventually his resiliency found its limit, as KENTA grinded him down with kicks, only for Ishii to find another gear and take the advantage once more. As Ishii went for a sliding lariat, KENTA sneakily managed to put on the Game Over crossface. Due to Ishii’s lack of neck, he was able to make it to the ropes and break the submission. KENTA hit the Busaiku Knee Kick, but Ishii powered through, only to eat a second one. KENTA hit a Falcon Arrow, a PK, but Ishii reversed the Go 2 Sleep attempt. KENTA hit the Go 2 Sleep, then pulled down his knee pad and hit a second one to defeat Tomohiro Ishii and defend the NEVER Openweight Championship.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Match: Will Ospreay (c) def. BUSHI (16:20)
Ospreay started the match with guns blazing, sending BUSHI reeling with high-speed offense. BUSHI did a good job of using Ospreay’s momentum against him, countering the Sasuke Special by dropping Ospreay on his head with an apron DDT. BUSHI hit a lightning spiral and went for the MX, but Ospreay got out of the way. Ospreay accidentally hit the referee and BUSHI went to spray black mist in Ospreay’s face, but Ospreay stopped it by taking the black mist from his mouth and spitting it in BUSHI’s face. Ospreay hit a shooting star press only for BUSHI to get the knees up and spray mist in Ospreay’s face. BUSHI went for the MX once more, but Ospreay hit a head kick to stop him. BUSHI hit a codebreaker and the MX, but Ospreay kicked out at two. BUSHI went for another MX, but Ospreay gave him an Oscutter out of mid air, followed by a Hidden Blade. Finally, Ospreay hit the Super Oscutter and Stormbreaker to pin BUSHI and defend the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship.

After the match, Ospreay made a list of all the junior heavyweights that he defeated, remarking that he had beaten anyone and there was no one left. As he left the ring, the lights went out, and a video of a Time Bomb scheduled to go off in 1,448 hours played. (1,448 hours from the time of this writing is on January 4th, 2020). Hiromu Takahashi entered to an electric response, pulled off the neck bandage he was wearing, threw it into the crowd, and ran around taking bumps. He took the microphone and said, while in a neck bridge to show that his neck was fine, that Ospreay was now the strongest junior heavyweight, but that now “Hiromu is back” and challenged Ospreay for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 14.

IWGP Intercontinental Championship Match: Jay White (c) def Hirooki Goto (27:40)
Ever since Hirooki Goto challenged White for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at Destruction in Kobe, White had done nothing but belittle him, and say that he didn’t deserve to challenge for the Championship. In the early going, he seemed to be correct, as he controlled the early match, despite Goto nearly getting his hands on Gedo, who had yet to involve himself in the match. At one point, White threw Goto into the guardrail near the Japanese announce table, which drew the ire of guest commentator Katsuyori Shibata, who raised from his seat but did not act. White hit the Kiwi Crusher for a near fall. Goto rallied, hitting the Ushigoroshi, then went for the GTR, but White managed to avoid it, as Gedo distracted the referee to boos. White hit the sleeper suplex, but Goto headbutted him to stop him in his tracks, then hit a reverse GTR. Goto followed up with a Shouten Kai for a near fall. Goto hit the GTW, followed by the GTR, but Goto pulled the referee out of the ring so that he couldn’t count the pin, but Shibata came in and apprehended Gedo. KENTA then came in and hit Goto with a Go 2 Sleep, then a kick on Shibata. KENTA continued attacking Shibata, as Jay White hit the Blade Runner on Goto to retain the IWGP Intercontinental Championship.

Jay White says he wants to be the first IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion and to wrestle against the winner of Ibushi vs. Okada on the second day of Wrestle Kingdom 14. He taunts Ibushi and Okada to come to the ring, but Tetsuya Naito comes to the ring instead. Eventually, Kota Ibushi and Kazuchika Okada come to the ring as well. Naito and Ibushi are also in favor of a double championship match. However, Okada dissents, and says that there should be a fan vote to decide it. Jay White demands to be announced as “IWGP Intercontinental Champion and future double Champion.” He is announced as such, and confetti rains down as Naito glares at him from the entrance ramp.

NJPW’s Road To Power Struggle Canceled Due To Effects Of Typhoon Hagibis

New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced that its Road to Power Struggle event that was set to take place on October 18 has been canceled due to effects from Typhoon Hagibis.

The Japanese promotion announced the news via Twitter:

Typhoon Hagibis caused a lot of damage to the Nagano area where the event was supposed to take place in the Nagano Sports Park Gymnasium. The company had no choice but to cancel the event. NJPW said ticket refunds are currently being finalized.

Every year, the Road to Power Struggle sees the Super Junior Tag League take place, as teams compete in a final at the Power Struggle pay-per-view on November 3 in Osaka.

Typhoon Hagibis was an extremely violent and large tropical cyclone that caused widespread destruction in Japan, starting from October 6 up until October 13.

Japan Rail, Japan Airlines, and All Nippon Airways had all announced suspended services during the typhoon.

NJPW had announced that the King of Pro Wrestling event will take place despite the storm.

They did have to cancel a Juice Robinson autograph session that was supposed to take place in Suidobashi in the NJPW Tokon shop on Saturday, October 12. The autograph session has since been rescheduled to October 19.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling had announced that the IWGP US Heavyweight Championship had been declared vacant, due to Jon Moxley’s inability to travel to Japan to defend the Championship at King of Pro Wrestling as a result of Typhoon Hagibis. Juice Robinson and Lance Archer competed for the vacant title at the event.

NJPW had also announced that Zack Sabre Junior was also unable to appear at the event, due to travel issues arising from Typhoon Hagibis.

The typhoon claimed a total of 70 lives with over 14 missing.

Highlights of Chris Jericho’s Recent IWGP Intercontinental Title Defence

Chris Jericho returned to New Japan Pro Wrestling at the Power Struggle event in Osaka, Japan. The IWGP Intercontinental Champion defended successfully against EVIL after locking him in a Walls of Jericho that transitioned into a Liontamer.

After the match concluded, Jericho continued to attack EVIL, putting him back into the submission hold until Naito ran in to save his LIJ teammate. Jericho escaped and began to leave, but not before he teased a match between the two, indicating to an inevitable confrontation between himself and Naito for the belt.

It is likely that Jericho will now go on to face Tetsuya Naito for the IC Title at Wrestle Kingdom. There is also a strong possibility that Jericho appears at the Madison Square Garden event for New Japan over WrestleMania weekend next year so the bout could happen there. Either way this is a huge bout for Naito in terms of mainstream appeal. This could help propel the Los Ingobernable leader to greater heights in New Japan.

Check out some of the highlights from the bout below. These include a hellacious table spot, a vicious chair-brace into the corner post and an sharp snap Codebreaker from Y2J.

NJPW Power Struggle Results

New Japan Pro Wrestling is on the road to Wrestle Kingdom 13, but before we get to their premier event in January, there’s still the World Tag League, the Road To Tokyo Dome shows, and today’s NJPW Power Struggle event to enjoy.

Power Struggle took place in Osaka’s Edion Arena, Osaka, Japan.

Power Struggle Results

ACH, Chris Sabin, Ryusuke Taguchi, & Toa Henare defeated Jushin “Thunder” Liger, Soberano, Jr., Tiger Mask IV, & Volador, Jr. via pinfall.

ACH and Taguchi nailed Soberano Jr. with a wheelbarrow X-Factor, allowing Taguchi to pick up the victory for his team.

Bullet Club (Robbie Eagles, Tama Tonga, & Tanga Loa) defeated Great Bash Heel (Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma) & KUSHIDA via pinfall.

The win came in typical Bullet Club fashion, with Jado and a supposedly injured Taiji Ishimori interfering in the match. Isihomori nailed KUSHIDA with his crutch; one Gun Stun later and the Bullet Club were victorious.

Ishimori proceeded to hold the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight title, clearly stating his intentions for championship gold.

CHAOS (Beretta & Kazuchika Okada) defeated Bullet Club (Bad Luck Fale & “Switchblade” Jay White) via pinfall.

Beretta slipped out of an attempted Bad Luck Fall, which led to a pinning opportunity over Bad Luck Fale.

Post-match, Jay White threw down a challenge that he would face Okada anytime, anywhere. When Okada suggested they fight then and there, White leaves.

Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi) defeated David Finlay & Hiroshi Tanahashi via pinfall.

Omega and Ibushi executed a high-impact Golden Trigger onto C-Block champion, David Finlay.

Super Jr. Tag League 2018 Finals

Roppongi 3K (SHO & YOH) defeated Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI & Shingo Takagi) and Suzuki-gun (El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) via pinfall.

SHO landed an imapctful Last Ride/Backcracker combination onto Desperado, who somehow kicked out at 2. SHO scooped up the LIJ member and quickly hit the Shock Arrow, giving Roppongi 3K the victory.

Roppongi 3K are the only team in New Japan history to win the Best of Super Jr.’s twice in a row.

Hirooki Goto defeated Taichi (c) by pinfall with GTR to win the NEVER Openweight Championship.

Goto weathered the storm after being attacked by Taichi before the bell. Fighting back, he managed to pull off the Shouten Kai and followed up with a GTR for the pinfall, winning back the NEVER Openweight Championshiop for the fourth time.

Tomohiro Ishii (c) defeated Minoru Suzuki by pinfall, thanks to a vertical drop brainbuster.

Ishii retained the RPW British Heavyweight Championship during this hard-hitting match that perfectly encapsulated the ‘strong style’ ideology.

Tetsuya Naito defeated Zack Sabre, Jr. via pinfall after hitting a second Destino.

Chris Jericho (c) defeated EVIL via submission with the Walls of Jericho, retaining the IWGP Intercontinental Championship in the process.

After the match concluded, Jericho continued to attack EVIL, putting him back into the submission hold until Naito ran in to save his LIJ teammate. Jericho escaped and began to leave, but not before he teased a match between the two, indicating to an inevitable confrontation between himself and Naito for the belt.

Naito got on the mic and officially challenged Jericho for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship to close out the show.

Saturday will see the first of the main POWER STRUGGLE shows take place. The main headline grabber for more casual fans is of course the IWGP Intercontinental Championship match between Chris Jericho and EVIL. Title Match Announced For NJPW Power Struggle Event

A new title match has been announced for the NJPW Power Struggle event, which is their next big show. New Japan Pro Wrestling officials confirmed that Taichi will now defend the NEVER Openweight Championship against Hirooki Goto. Originally, Taichi was supposed to wrestle Will Ospreay, but Ospreay had to pull out due to injury.

Last week, it was revealed by the promotion that Ospreay wouldn’t be able to wrestle at the show after suffering a rib injury at Revolution Pro Wrestling’s Global Wars UK event on October 14. The young rising wrestling star suffered the injury when he landed badly during his match against Chris Ridgeway.

This match joins a stacked card as several big matches have already been announced. Those matches include Chris Jericho defending the IWGP Intercontinental Championship against EVIL, the Super Jr. Tag League finals, and Tetsuya Naito vs. Zack Sabre, Jr.

Power Struggle takes place on November 3rd and will air live on New Japan World. Here is the updated card:

– Rev Pro British Heavyweight Champion Tomohiro Ishii vs. Minoru Suzuki

– NEVER Openweight Champion Taichi vs. Hirooki Goto

Will Ospreay Officially Pulled From Power Struggle

Unfortunately, it appears that the injury sustained by The Sky King, Will Ospreay, may be more serious than initially thought.

Ospreay was pulled from a number of events since first becoming injured at the NJPW/RPW Global War show on October 14th, including NJPW’s Road To Power Struggle tour. This was done to help Will rehab and recover for his match against Taichi on November 3rd.

According to NJPW, despite the time taken to try and heal, the treatment that Ospreay has been undertaking has “not progressed as quickly as we [NJPW] had hoped.”

Because of this, Will Ospreay will sadly have to miss the event, and will no longer be competing for the NJPW NEVER Openweight Championship at Power Struggle.

NJPW has not replaced Ospreay, however, instead simply canceling the matchup entirely against Suzuki-Gun’s Taichi.

The Sky King Stakes His Claim

Ospreay recently put himself into title consideration against Taichi, leading his CHAOS stablemates to victory against Suzuki-Gun at NJPW’s King Of Pro Wrestling event.

Ospreay pinned the current champion before cutting an impassioned promo backstage staking his claim at the title – one that Taichi was quick to dismiss.

Official Statement

The full official statement from NJPW1972.com can be read below:

“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that Will Ospreay will miss the event in Osaka on November 3rd (Sat). As such the NEVER Openweight Championship match has been canceled.

Having become injured in the UK, Will Ospreay has been undergoing treatment. However, his treatment has not progressed as quickly as we had hoped and unfortunately, he will have to miss the event on November 3 (Saturday) in Osaka Prefectural Gym (Edion Arena Osaka).

As a result, the NEVER Openweight Championship match (Taichi vs Will Ospreay), scheduled for the same event, will be canceled.

We offer our sincerest apologies to our fans who were looking forward to this championship match. Good luck Will, we look forward to your return at upcoming events.

New Japan Pro Wrestling Co., Ltd.”

Chris Jericho Will “Fear No Evil” At NJPW’s Power Struggle

The Road to Power Struggle has only just begun, but NJPW isn’t pumping the brakes on one of pro wrestling’s hottest commodities as Chris Jericho returns to defend his IWGP Intercontinental Championship against EVIL on November 3rd in Osaka at NJPW’s Power Struggle event.

In a new video uploaded to the NJPW YouTube channel, Chris Jericho shared his thoughts on his opponent for the championship clash.

“Why EVIL?” Jericho asked. “Sometimes things present themselves to you. After I beat Naito in Osaka in June, EVIL came to the ring to get inside my business. To try and make a name for himself. To try and be on the same level as Chris Jericho. EVIL, that’s not possible.”

Jericho actually spoke highly of the King Of Darkness, who he assaulted in a surprise attack at New Japan’s recent King Of Pro Wrestling event, saying “[…] I like the fact that you put yourself out on the line. I like the fact that you came down and showed some balls.

So EVIL, for you to come down to the ring and attack me in June in Osaka, I was very impressed. And I didn’t forget. And I was waiting for the right time to make my move. To surprise you, to embarrass you, and to teach you a lesson.”

“You Get To Join The List, Man”

“It’s the biggest match of your career, EVIL,” Jericho claimed. “And it’s just another match for me. It’s fine. You’re just another guy on the list of people that I’ve beaten over and over again, from The Undertaker to Naito, to Shawn Michaels to Eddie Guerrero. Now, EVIL. You get to join the list, man.

“You get to be on that prestigious list of people who got beaten by the greatest of all time. That’s good for you, and that’s always bad for you. Because I’m going to kick the shit out of you, EVIL,” he promised. “I’m going to teach you a lesson. […] you’ll walk out of there a bigger star, I’m going to make you famous, I promise that – but I’m also going to beat you. November 3rd in Osaka, I will fear no evil.”

What do you think of this feud so far? Are you looking forward to this match, come November 3rd?

Title Matches Announced for NJPW Power Struggle

New Japan Pro Wrestling are now building up to their biggest show, January’s Wrestle Kingdom from the Tokyo Dome.

One of the stops on the way to Wrestle Kingdom is Power Struggle, and this year’s iteration already has some intriguing titles matches set up:

IWGP Intercontinental Championship: Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) vs Kota Ibushi – Kota Ibushi spent a good amount of time away from the company, performing on the UK independent scene as well as the WWE Cruiserweight Classic. Tanahashi has been a fine Intercontinental Champion, however he has not elevated the belt in the same way that former champion Shinsuke Nakamura managed and there’s a good chance that Kota wins here to setup a match against Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship: Will Ospreay (c) vs Marty Scurll – Ospreay became the first ever British born IWGP Junior champion when he defeated KUSHIDA at King of Pro Wrestling, Marty Scurll has the opportunity here to become the second ever. This is a rivalry that has transcended companies and the New Japan faithful are in for a real treat.

NEVER Openweight Championship: Minoru Suzuki (c) vs Toru Yano – The most lopsided match on the card? You’d think so but Yano has this uncanny ability to beat Minoru Suzuki at will. Low blows and roll ups seem to be the order of the day when it comes to this match-up however I expect Suzuki to finally overcome Yano and show his dominance heading into the Tokyo Dome on January 4th.

NJPW ‘Switchblade’ Tease To Be Revealed at Power Struggle

New Japan released a teaser video earlier this year for a potential new signing. The ‘Switchblade’ video heavily hinted at former NXT superstar Sami Callihan’s impending debut for New Japan.

The company has released a further video confirming the debut of ‘Switchblade’ at the Power Struggle event on November 5th.

Who do you think will be debuting? Let us know in the comments.
