Backstage Information On R-Truth Reclaiming 24/7 Championship At Drake Maverick’s Wedding

We recently reported on R-Truth crashing Drake Maverick’s wedding and once again becoming WWE 24/7 Champion.

The person behind the idea for this may title change surprise you as it wasn’t Vince McMahon.

According to PWInsider, it turns out that Drake Maverick pitched the idea himself to WWE Creative.

WWE officials loved the idea and obviously gave the segment the go-ahead. And so Maverick’s special day became a nightmare for the 205 Live General Manager and now former 24/7 Champion. This isn’t the first time that Maverick has gone above and beyond for the company.

The segment itself was filmed after the wedding ceremony had taken place. NXT creative team member, Joseph Belcastro, was the individual playing the pastor for the title change. Additional material has allegedly filmed. There is no word yet on whether WWE intends to release more over the next few days or weeks.

Maverick has a number of friends within the pro wrestling industry. Many were in attendance for his wedding to Renee Michelle, herself an indie wrestler and former Mae Young Classic participant. She was eliminated from the tournament in the first round by Candice LeRae.

Guests included EC3 and Braun Strowman, Matt Hardy and his family, Jeremy Borash, former Impact wrestler, Cheerleader Melissa, Tyson Kidd and Natalya, Diamante, and Kiera Hogan.

R-Truth Wins 24/7 Title At Drake Maverick’s Wedding

R-Truth is once again the 24/7 champion. He defeated Drake Maverick recently at the former champion’s wedding. Maverick and his wife had just said “I Do” (with Maverick wearing the title around his waist at the time) when Truth crashed the event.

WWE cameras were on-hand and posted Truth’s title victory to their YouTube channel:

R-Truth Defeates Drake Maverick For The 24/7 Title

Truth is now a 6x champion. Maverick’s 2-day reign with the title leading up to his wedding is the longest any performer other than Truth has had so far in the title’s short existance.

Other former champions include: Elias (2x), Jinder Mahal (2x), Robert Roode, and Titus O’Neil (inaugural).

Although perhaps not listed as an official title change, Matt Hardy’s son Maxel was in possession of the 24/7 title for a period during Maverick’s wedding.

Shortly after defeating Truth for the title during Smackdown on Tuesday, Maverick sent out the following on Twitter:

Mick Foley introduced the title belt on the May 20th episode of RAW. The following day on Busted Open radio, Foley had the following to say regarding his promo introducing the new championship:

“I would have changed so many things,” Foley said. “I wouldn’t have come out with a real serious intent when it’s going to be a humorous belt.”

“I could have declined,” Foley admitted. “Sometimes I do decline things because I want to make an impact when I come back. I do believe…I do believe it’s going to catch on.”

R-Truth Defeats Elias For 24/7 Title, Footage From Under The Ring (Video)

R-Truth became a 4x 24/7 champion on Smackdown last night. He lost the title to Elias (now a 2x former champion) in a lumberjack match made by Shane McMahon. Shortly after the match, however, the lumberjacks all swarmed the new champion.

Elias would escape to the outside but that is where Truth was. Truth and a referee followed Elias under the ring and when he emerged, he was once again 24/7 champion.

WWE evidently had a camera set-up under the ring and the promotion recently published video of what took place there when Truth won the 24/7 title for a record 4th time.

The highlight video of Truth winning the title has already amassed over 1 million views on YouTube.

R-Truth 24/7 Champion

While the 24/7 title has already changed hands 8 times since it was created on May 20th, 2019, only R-Truth has held the title for longer than a day. All other champions won and lost the title on the same day.

Titus O’Neil, Jinder Mahal, Elias (2x), and Robert Roode are the only other wrestlers to have held the title so far. Mahal won and lost the title on a golf course this weekend.

R-Truth Loses Then Regains 24/7 Title Against Jinder Mahal (Video)

Jinder Mahal was briefly the WWE 24/7 champion today. Mahal won the title after a sneak attack on a golf course. Truth and Carmella had been on the golf course trying to enjoy a day off at the time they were attacked by Mahal.

WWE posted the video of Mahal’s short title reign to their YouTube account:

R-Truth 24/7 Championship Reign

Truth is now a 3x 24/7 Champion. He is one of five people to hold the belt since it was introduced by Mick Foley on May 20th, 2019. On that episode of RAW, Foley simply placed the title on the mat and the first person to physically hold the title became the champion.

Titus O’Neil was the first to grab the title but he was pinned by Robert Roode shortly after. Roode was then pinned by Truth, who would hold the title a record 8 days until losing it to Elias on the May 28th, 2019 Smackdown. Truth would regain the title again later that episode.

WWE Hardcore Championship

As K-Kwik, Truth is a 2x former WWE Hardcore Champion as well. He never held that title longer than a full day, however. Kwik defeated Raven on a February 3rd, 2001 live event for the title but would lose it later that same show to Crash Holly.

The exact same pattern would play out the next day at a February 4th WWE house show, making Kwik a 2x champion.

R-Truth Says He’s Taking The “European Title” To Smackdown

R-Truth is the new 24/7 Champion. The title was introduced last night by Mick Foley and is open to any Superstar from any brand.

Truth had a referee ready before attacking Robert Roode and winning the title during the 3rd hour of RAW last night. He has since posted the following to Twitter:

Truth may have been in Albany last night as part of the Wild Card rule, or he may have just confused which show he was supposed to be on. Regardless, he’s the new 24/7 Champion and plans on bringing the title to Smackdown tonight.

24/7 Championship

As of this writing, the championship is approximately 10.5 hours old and has changed hands 3 times already. Titus O’Neil was the first to win the title, he did so by simply grabbing the title belt that Foley had left on the ring mat. Robert Roode would then win the title shortly before R-Truth did.

R-Truth Championship Statistics

This is the second title with a 24/7 rule R-Truth has won in WWE. Truth is also a 2x Hardcore Champion as well. He’s a former 2x United States Champion, 1x Tag Team Champion, and won Season 2 of the Mixed Match Challenge with Carmella.

R-Truth Talks About Bringing Back The US Title Open Challenge, Making Cena Proud

Current WWE United States Champion, R-Truth, returned to television this week on SmackDown Live. He had been been “missing” for a time. R-Truth also announced the return of the United States Championship Open Challenge — a challenge that former US Champion, John Cena, popularized.

Catching up with WWE.com, R-Truth discussed bringing the challenge back and his confidence in making John Cena proud with his decision.

“I made him damn proud, you know what I’m saying?” he said. “At first, it was a dilemma, but I had a quick hypothesis after, um — I talked to Carmella and she said, ‘You brave, too. John Cena would fight both of them.’ I was like, ‘No thank you, no thank you,’ but she said, ‘You brave, too.’”

He continued, saying, “We’re a team like that, you know what I’m saying? She support me, give me that strength, give me that support, you know what I’m saying? My idol, John Cena, would’ve done the same thing, right?”

R-Truth would successfully retain his US Championship in a triple threat match against both Andrade and Rey Mysterio this past Tuesday night.

Where does R-Truth go from here? Will he help to elevate the championship as so many before him have done?

R-Truth Jokes About Being ‘Missing’ On SmackDown

If you’ve been wondering where the current WWE United States Champion is, you’re not the only one. Turns out the champion himself, R-Truth, has noticed his absence on television.

R-Truth won the title from Shinsuke Nakamura on the 1/29 episode of SmackDown Live, though he hasn’t appeared on the show in a while despite claiming gold.

Poking fun at his own situation, R-Truth took to his Instagram account highlighting how he has been missing from action. The post displays a carton of milk with R-Truth plastered on the side under a ‘Missing’ headline. It asks that if he is to be found, people should contact Carmella.

Next to the carton is a picture of R-Truth with his hands and feet tied and his mouth duct taped shut with the U.S. Championship around his waist.

R-Truth has become known over the years for being his part in numerous WWE skits and comedy segments. Years ago he was accompanied by a small, invisible child called ‘Little Jimmy’; more recently he has been associated with Carmella, especially during their stint as a team for WWE’s Mixed Match Challenge. The duo would eventually win the tournament and with it an all-expenses-paid vacation to anywhere in the world. R-Truth chose the WWE Headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut.

What do you think? Is this tongue-in-cheek joke a good way for R-Truth to stay on people’s radar? Should he be featured more, considering he is a champion?

Nia Jax Legitimately Hurt R-Truth During Royal Rumble Attack

During the men’s Royal Rumble matchup this past Sunday, R-Truth would never get the opportunity to fulfil his hard-earned #30 spot. This was due to Nia Jax assaulting him during his entrance before inserting herself into the fray.

According to a recent report by Rajah.com, Nia Jax was a bit too violent during the attack, legitimately injuring R-Truth’s ankle and face. This has led there to be some supposed heat between R-Truth and Jax.

WWE spun this incident into a backstage segment for WWE.com where he attempted to find her accompanied by Titus O’Neil.

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawyer has corroborated this during his podcast, Dinner With The King Podcast.

“And this got real heat for real,” said Lawlor. “She blasted poor R-Truth and knocked him face-first into that wall. He was hot, for real hot. They were having to hold him back there. She made it look good.”

R-Truth earned his spot as the number 30 entrant. This was done when he and Carmella would emerge victorious in WWE’s recent Mixed Match Challenge tournament. They would win an all-expenses-paid vacation to anywhere in the world. R-Truth would surprise Carmella with a trip to WWE’s headquarters in Stamford.

Listen to Jerry Lawler’s comments about Nia Jax in the men’s Royal Rumble:

R-Truth Wins WWE United States Title

The WWE United States Title has changed hands once again and this time, R-Truth is the new champion.

The title change went down on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Phoenix, AZ at the Talking Stick Resort Arena as Truth opened the show by cutting a promo with Carmella at his side about how due to him being attacked by Nia Jax and not allowed to compete in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match, The McMahon’s had granted him a championship match.

This led to Truth beating Shinsuke Nakamura for the title. He would then immediately defend it against Rusev which saw him successfully retain it. After this match, Rusev turned heel by beating Truth down alongside Nakamura.

During the pre-show for the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Phoenix, Arizona at Chase Field, a battle between Rusev and Nakamura that saw the former NXT Champion reclaim the U.S Title. It will be interesting to see how long R-Truth holds the title for and this new dynamic between Rusev and Nakamura.

What are your thoughts on R-Truth winning title? Was it the right time to do this by WWE? Sound off in the comment section.

R-Truth And Carmella Are On Their Mixed Match Challenge Vacation

Together, Carmella and R-Truth were victorious in WWE’s Mixed Match Challenge tournament finals, which took place in December. They defeated the team of Jinder Mahal and Alicia Fox during WWE’s Tables, Ladders and Chairs event.

This victory granted them two things: guaranteed #30 spots in their respective Rumble matches, and an all expenses paid vacation to anywhere in the world.

It was at this point that R-Truth divulged that he had taken care of it for the team. He revealed that he had signed them up for a trip to — of all places — WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. To say Carmella was disappointed at R-Truth’s revelation would be an understatement.

This week, the team have been in Stamford, filming various segments following their experience around WWE HQ’s.

R-Truth and Carmella have filmed with Cathy Kelley, and have also recorded segments with Corey Graves and others in and around the headquarters. Each segment will undoubtedly be intended to continue the comedic stylings that the duo have become known for on WWE television.

Are you looking forward to viewing these when they view on SmackDown Live? Do you think R-Truth or Carmella could win the Rumble, thanks to their #30 slots?

R-Truth And Carmella Are The Jay-Z And Beyonce Of Wrestling, Says R-Truth

“We’re pretty much the Jay-Z and Beyonce of wrestling.”

That is how R-Truth thinks of himself and Carmella.

Truth took time away from his dancing schedule to guest on Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia recently.

Over the course of the interview, he discussed the odd couple pairing with Carmella, and how it came to be.

R-Truth And Carmella Dance Break

Before the pair went on to win the Mixed Match Challenge, R-Truth was treading water.

“The writers didn’t know what to do with me or where to put me,” he explained.

“Once they put me and Carmella together, it was like, now I have something to do,” Truth said.

“Not only do I have something to do, it’s double the entertainment.”

“That’s the business. You’re just waiting for that bone to be thrown to you,” Truth said.

“When opportunity knocks, you have to be ready.

Carmella’s Face Turn

Truth says that when he and Carmella were paired, there were no concrete plans for either to turn. Rather, the audience ended up making both of them babyfaces.

“She was a bad guy. She was a heel. Just by her going out there with me, it turned her, and people took to it.”

As for the pairing of characters, Truth admits that he had reservations as to how the audience might respond to his character being aligned with the Princess Of Staten Island.

“In society today, for them to take to me and her like that, it was great,” he said.

Truth also discusses selling drugs as a youth, his “four or five” trips to jail, how he survived being incarcerated, and his path to the WWE, all on Chasing Glory.

Carmella Says She’ll Be Champion Again Someday

Carmella won the first two women’s Money in the Bank matches in 2017. She cashed-in the briefcase the Tuesday after WrestleMania and defeated Charlotte Flair to win the title. ‘Mella then went on to defend the title 3x on WWE programming within a 131-day reign.

She spoke to Metro UK about possibly being champion again someday.

“I will become champion again,” Carmella said. “That’s for sure, but right now everyone has their moment and then you get back into the mix. I’m not in any rush, when it happens it’ll happen.”

As for what Carmella is up to now, however, she’s happy in her role with R-Truth. The tandem recently won the Mixed Match Challenge and earned the last entrance into their respective Royal Rumbles.

“I didn’t know (R-Truth) that well before we started this whole thing but he’s such an easygoing guy,” Carmella said. “It’s been really fun getting to know him, and honestly, how you see us on TV is how we are in real life. We finish each other’s sentences, we’re so silly and we have turned into such good friends. I feel super lucky, he’s a great, great guy and he’s not afraid to make a fool out of himself and have a good time.”

WWE Plans For R-Truth And Carmella

If you’ve been a fan of R-Truth and Carmella’s antics in recent weeks, then you’ll be happy to hear that WWE doesn’t want to wrap up their partnership any time soon.

The pair recently won the Mixed Match Challenge finals at this past weekend’s Tables, Ladders and Chairs event. This victory has afforded them to each enter their respective Royal Rumbles at the lucrative number 30 spot when the event takes place this coming January. In addition to their Rumble placement, they were also gifted an all expenses paid vacation to anywhere in the world.

It was at this point that R-Truth divulged that he had taken care of it for the team. He revealed that he had signed them up for a trip to — of all places — WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. To say Carmella was disappointed at R-Truth’s revelation would be an understatement.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE intends to film numerous vignettes of Carmella and R-Truth visiting WWE headquarters.

It’s reported that these vignettes won’t be filmed until after Christmas. Each one is intended to continue the comedic stylings that R-Truth and Carmella have become known for on WWE television.

What do you think of this? Is the partnership of R-Truth and Carmella working for you?

Carmella Comments On Being A “Rapping Manager” For R-Truth

Carmella has spent much of her time on the main roster as a heel. She won 2 Money in the Bank matches and the Smackdown Women’s Championship while playing the role. Recently, however, “Mella” has been teaming with R-Truth and has seemingly made an abrupt babyface turn. She spoke with TV Insider recently about her new pairing and everything else that has gone on in her career these last few years.

“I want to keep growing and learning,” Carmella said. “And whatever opportunity I’m given right now like for R-Truth, I will be the best rapping manager for Truth. I want to do whatever I can do to be the best at whatever I’m doing.”

She also mentioned she was thrilled to be ranked an 80 in WWE 2K19 this year.

“First off can we talk about how I’m an 80 in the game. That’s so cool. I thought maybe I’d get 47 or something.”

Carmella and R-Truth: The Fabulous Truth

R-Truth and Carmella form the team “The Fabulous Truth” in this year’s Mixed Match Challenge. They dropped their opening round-robin match to last year’s winners, Asuka and Miz.

Carmella also commented on the strides made in WWE’s women’s divisions in the last few years.

“It’s crazy to think in a few months we’ve gone from, ‘Oh my gosh, the women are the main event of SmackDown Live. Can you believe it?’ And now the women are the main event. It’s not even a big deal. It has become the norm. I think that is rightfully so. It’s about time.”

Brie Bella vs Maryse

In a match Paige made official earlier this week, Brie Bella will face Maryse. This will be Brie Bella’s first single’s match in 2.5 years. Her opponent, however, hasn’t wrestled a single’s match since 2011 and last wrestled at WrestleMania 33.

Daniel Bryan and the Miz will likely be watching this match closely.

Andrade “Cien” Almas vs R-Truth

Paige also made this match official earlier this week. Almas is coming off of 2 straight losses to Daniel Bryan and could really use a win. In total, however, Almas is 6-3 in single’s matches on the main roster. His only losses have come to Bryan and AJ Styles.

As for R-Truth,  he picked up a win in the Smackdown main event last week against the Miz. Another win tonight and Smackdown General Manager Paige might consider R-Truth in contention for a single’s title.

Charlotte Flair vs Sonya Deville

Before Charlotte Flair defends her title against Becky Lynch at Hell in a Cell, she’ll have to get by Sonya Deville tonight. Under WWE’s “pin the champion” rules, however, if Deville is successful tonight she could get added to the Smackdown Women’s Championship match on the pay-per-view. Seems unlikely, however.

Becky Lynch will no doubt be nearby while this match is going on.

Smackdown Tag-Team Championship #1 Contenders Match
The Bar vs Rusev Day

Both the Bar and Rusev Day won triple-threat tag matches recently to advance to the finals of this mini-tournament. The winners will face the New Day for the tag titles at Hell in a Cell.

English and Rusev have been working well together recently but can they keep their hot streak going against the former multi-time champions the Bar.

Jeff Hardy vs Shinsuke Nakamura

Jeff Hardy will face Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell but will have a chance to settle unresolved business with the United States Champion tonight. It seems as though this is a non-title match.

Paige has announced this match will kickoff tonight’s show.

Gran Metalik defeated Tony Nese last week on 205 Live. Tonight he’ll face Nese’s training partner Buddy Murphy.

Murphy will challenge Cedric Alexander for the Cruiserweight Championship in Australia for Super Show-Down on October 6th. Alexander will likely be watching his match with Metalik tonight.

Cedric Alexander & Akira Tozawa vs Drew Gulak & Jack Gallagher

Even though Cedric Alexander is scheduled to defend his title against Buddy Murphy next, Drew Gulak is still trying to position himself for a title rematch. Alexander defeated Gulak at Summerslam.

Gulak has aligned with Jack Gallagher and others in an attempt to rid the division of its current champion. Tonight, Alexander has Akira Tozawa watching his back, however, in an attempt to even the odds.

Paige Announces Two Matches For Smackdown

Smackdown General Manager Paige has revealed two matches for this Tuesday’s Smackdown. After defeating the Miz in the Smackdown main event last week, R-Truth will face Andrade “Cien” Almas this week. Maryse will also face Brie Bella in this week’s Smackdown main event.

Andrade “Cien” Almas vs R-Truth

R-Truth’s victory last week was the first single’s win he’s had on WWE programming since July 2017. He defeated Curt Hawkins on Main Event for that victory. Before then, his last win in a single’s match had been on Monday Night Raw in October 2016 when he defeated Titus O’Neil.

Andrade “Cien” Almas has dropped his last two single’s matches on WWE programming. Both losses were to Daniel Bryan. In total, however, Almas is 6-3 in single’s matches since debuting on the main roster earlier this year. His only losses have come by way of AJ Styles and the two to Daniel Bryan.

Brie Bella vs Maryse

Brie Bella will have her first single’s match in 2.5 years tonight when she faces Maryse. She returned to the ring for the first time since 2016 at the Women’s Royal Rumble in January and had her first tag match back last week on Raw.

As for Maryse, this will be her first single’s match since 2011. It will be her first match since she teamed with her husband at WrestleMania 33.

R-Truth’s Graphic Injury Photos

R-Truth has shared a graphic photo of his injured shoulder.

The former United States Champion has missed a lot of ring time over the past year. Last August, R-Truth was injured during a match against Elias. He underwent two shoulder surgeries as a result.

The shoulder injury kept him out of the ring until until WrestleMania 34, when he returned and wrestled in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

R-Truth returned to the ring on Tuesday’s SmackDown Live and was defeated by Samoa Joe. Despite coming up short, the 46-year-old showed that he can still go with one of WWE’s top Superstars.

R-Truth’s Injury Photos

Truth posted a photo on Instagram this week showing exactly what he was dealing with during his time away from WWE. He shared several graphic photos of the ‘floating bone’ in his shoulder. He also expressed his love for the business and proclaimed, “I’m back.”

R-Truth Stat

As seen on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Evansville, IN at the Ford Center on the USA Network, R-Truth was back to wrestling on network television for the company as he lost a quick squash match to Joe, which marked his first singles match in nine months as that previous contest went down in October.

The reason for his absence was due to him needing to undergo shoulder surgery back in December. It should be noted that since that surgery, he did work the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34 back in April in New Orleans.

Truth was backstage at Smackdown last night, however. He appears to be looking for a new tag-team partner as well. Despite coming to believe he is an alien, Truth first asked Tye Dillinger to be his new partner. When that didn’t work out, Truth then challenged Samoa Joe to face Dillinger in a future match.

WWE.com has released video of the interaction:
