  • Dolph Ziggler Takes Aim At Randy Orton and Kelly Kelly On Latest “WWE Download”

This week on WWE Download, Randy Orton takes over Chris Jericho’s reign in the “Midlife Crisis Clip of the Week” as a clip of the third-generation grappler botching an RKO attempt on Jericho during a January 2004 episode of Raw is shown multiple times.

“Nice work buddy, I’ve never actually seen a Statue of Liberty play in WWE before,” Ziggler says of Orton in the clip. “Too bad your face wasn’t covered in tats too, at least hide the embarrassment.”

Ziggler continues, “Instead of the “Legend Killer,” we can call you the “Segment Killer.” You know like segments are parts of the show, and there are good ones and bad ones, and then there’s one in the middle, there’s one that I steal all the time, and then there’s you know, Randy’s. No wonder your TV wives won’t stick around for longer than a week. Why don’t you turn back into a human snake and quit while you’re only slightly behind.”

“A Bad Conduct Discharge and a Dishonorable Discharge under the Uniform Code of Military Justice are two different things,” Orton wrote. “Come on you ‘reporters’! Check your facts, and more importantly your sources! I was given a BCD, not a Dishonorable!! #semperfidelis.”

WWE has used Orton sparingly since he returned from a 60-day suspension, including not booking him at SummerSlam. Despite the fact WWE now has one of their top stars back in the mix, Orton will be leaving television again soon to begin filming the WWE Studios movie, “12 Rounds.”

  • Original Plans For Orton At SummerSlam, AJ Comments On Kane Attacking Josh Matthews

    – The biggest WWE star to not compete at Sunday’s SummerSlam pay-per-view was Randy Orton. After returning from his 60-day WWE suspension, WWE was considering adding Orton to the Sheamus vs. Alberto World Heavyweight title match, but the feeling was that the match didn’t need the extra star power (due to it not being one of the top matches on the card) and WWE went with the WWE title match being a triple threat match instead.

Even though he just returned to television, Orton will likely take some time off soon to begin filming the WWE Studios movie, “12 Rounds: Reloaded.”

    – RAW General Manager AJ Lee says Kane will have to face consequences after attacking Josh Matthews backstage at Sunday’s SummerSlam PPV:

With little time to spare and his wife’s life hanging in the balance, the EMT must figure out why he’s been chosen to be the pawn in this maniac’s game before it’s too late.”

12 Rounds: Reloaded was written by David Benullo and will be directed by Roel Reiné (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption and Death Race: Inferno). Production will begin September 26 in Vancouver. This is WWE Studios’ second film in a three-picture agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

  • Randy Orton Comments On His Return, Says He Was On “Vacation”

Randy Orton returned to action Monday night on Raw after serving a 60-day suspension for his second violation of WWE’s Talent Wellness Program.

Heath Slater called out any current WWE Superstar in the back to answer his challenge and The Viper responded by pummeling The One-Man Band all over the ring. After blasting Slater with a powerslam and a DDT off the second rope, Orton nailed him with the RKO to gain the pinfall victory. WWE.com spoke to The Legend Killer after defeating The One-Man Band.

“I gotta say, I am very rested due to my 60-day “vacation.” Guys threw me huge party today, a welcome back party. They literally set the stage on fire,” Orton said. “I feel better than ever. I gotta say during my ten, eleven-year career here in the WWE, I haven’t felt this good, as good as I do today, and I think I just proved that out there a little while ago.”

He continues, “I’ve been at home and I’ve been watching and I see Heath Slater, week in, week out calling out these Legends. I used to to do the same thing and I’m thinking to myself, “I’m the Legend Killer, the original Legend Killer.” But he’s not even doing it right, he’s like the reverse Legend Killer. But tonight, I just couldn’t stand back here and let him go on yapping his gums. He got his a** kicked last week in my hometown of St. Louis at the 1000th episode of Raw and you know what? Sorry Heath, but you’re going to get your a** kicked if you flap your gums like that with Randy Orton backstage.”

  • Randy Orton Returns From Suspension, SummerSlam Match Made

  • WWE Does Away With ‘Raw SuperShow’, Was Kelly At Raw 1,000?

    – Beginning tomorrow night, WWE’s weekly Monday night program will be officially referred to as Raw rather than Raw SuperShow. It was apparently a sudden change as all future Mondays events were labeled Raw SuperShow as recently as last week. WWE.com changed their live events listings to reflect the change.

WWE instituted the Raw SuperShow tag on August 29, 2011 due to the addition of the SmackDown brand roster to the weekly program. SmackDown talent will continue to appear on Raw.

    – Kelly Kelly is featured in a new WWE.com Divas photo shoot (view here) that was shot backstage at Raw 1,000, thus confirming she was at the show. Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer was unsure last week as to whether she was actually at the event since he received no accounts of her being there.

  • Randy Orton’s Drug Suspension Ends, Changes To SmackDown

Randy Orton’s 60-day suspension for his second violation of WWE’s Talent Wellness Program has ended—suspended effective May 30. He returns imminently as he is scheduled for Monday’s Raw in Cincinnati, Ohio and Tuesday’s SmackDown taping in Indianapolis, Indiana.

According to F4WOnline.com, his suspension stemmed from a positive drug test for elevated levels of testosterone. He reportedly told people that he took a tainted supplement containing the testosterone, causing him to fail, and acknowledged that he should have been more careful. WWE chief Vince McMahon was said to have been livid with Orton over the matter, particularly since he was so “outspokenly indifferent.”

Orton’s suspension caused a ripple effect on SmackDown as John Cena, Triple H, CM Punk and Daniel Bryan were shifted to several shows this summer to alleviate the brand’s lack of star power. Punk and Bryan will resume their feud at Raw live events beginning this weekend while Cena will cease making special appearances following SmackDown broadcasts in three weeks. Triple H will continue to make special appearances on SmackDown until further notice.

  • HHH Addresses Orton’s Suspension, Says It’s Hard To Find Talent

Promoting this coming Monday’s historic 1000th episode of Raw, Paul Levesque, also known as Triple H, addressed a number of topics including Randy Orton’s ongoing sixty-day suspension for his second violation of WWE’s Talent Wellness Program.

Orton, who hails from St. Louis, Missouri, the site of Monday’s show, will be unable to appear due to the suspension. Though Levesque won’t divulge what Orton did wrong, he notes “The Legend Killer” will be back once the suspension concludes.

“It is important to remember that all of our wrestlers are human but they also have to be accountable,” Levesque says of Orton’s suspension.

As WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent and Live Events, Levesque’s corporate role is to discover tomorrow’s Superstars. He admits it’s a struggle.

“We’re trying to teach them to be the Stone Colds and the Undertakers of tomorrow, but the one thing we can’t teach is charisma,” said Levesque. “You can teach people to do moves and create story lines and the psychology of what we do, but you can’t teach someone to be the Rock. It’s an innate ability to walk into a room and have everyone pay attention. Put aside the athleticism and what happens in the ring, what our business is really about is connecting with people emotionally. If you are emotionally connected to your character, then people will want to see you. It’s true in Hollywood and movies. You don’t have to be the best actor, just be a presence.”

Triple H, The Rock and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin created on-screen personas “fans loved, hated or loved to hate” on Raw in the late ’90s. Levesque feels they were the first stars of reality television.

“Every guy we have, whether it’s me, whether it’s the Undertaker, whether it’s John Cena playing the character John Cena, is a performer,” said Levesque. “What we did is very much the beginning of reality television. ‘Jersey Shore,’ whether people want to believe it or not, is a scripted kind-of show. They don’t give them every single word, but they give them premises and they set things up. It’s not a documentary where you follow them around brushing their teeth. And that’s what we are — we blur that line and that’s what people find intriguing.”

Levesque also offers insight on The Rock and Kane’s on-stage personalities, WWE’s decision to make their shows “PG” television, critics denouncing wrestling as “fake,” and more. Read more here.

  • Ticket Sales Slow For SmackDown Taping, Arena Offers Discount

Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana is offering a discount on tickets for the Tuesday, July 31 SmackDown taping due to sluggish ticket sales. The venue issued the following notice to regular customers: “For a limited time, purchase a ticket and get upgraded to the next price level at no extra cost. That means if you purchase a ticket for $35, you’ll be upgraded to a $45 seat.”

Since last fall, multiple SmackDown events have drawn poor ticket sales, particularly in the Midwestern United States. There have been several instances where almost all of the camera side of the host venue has been tarped off, along with a large part of the upper bowl. One show in Toledo, Ohio was among the worst attended WWE events in years, drawing approximately 3,200 fans with only 1,600 paying. Raw Superstars John Cena and Triple H were added to several shows this summer to alleviate the disappearance of top SmackDown talent Randy Orton following his sixty-day suspension for his second violation of WWE’s Talent Wellness Program.

Both Cena and Triple H are advertised to make special appearances in Indianapolis, Indiana. It will also mark as the SmackDown return of Orton.

WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H is advertised to make a special appearance at the event.

As we’ve been reporting in recent weeks, Randy Orton is expected to return to the SmackDown brand’s main event scene upon his return. Despite WWE’s typical reluctance to push wrestlers with two Wellness strikes against them, WWE’s lack of roster depth will likely result in Orton’s return to the the top SmackDown cards.

    – Former WWE developmental wrestler Marcus Owens stated on Twitter that he will be filming a new reality series for VH1 next month in Atlanta, Georgia. He was released from his contract with the wrestling organization earlier this year.

Evenue.com is holding a pre-sale for the September 11 SmackDown taping at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The passcode is SHEAMUS.

According to PWInsider.com, Maxine quit WWE due to frustrations with “not being offered a guaranteed deal and not having the chance to prove herself on TV beyond the WWE NXT level.” She continues a trend that began last year of female talent leaving WWE on their own accord, which includes Michelle McCool, Gail Kim, Maryse, Brie Bella and Nikki Bella.
