AEW’s Rebel Reveals Health Setback After Lung Mass Scare

All Elite Wrestling’s Rebel was once a regular on the company’s programming thanks to her partnership with Britt Baker, but hasn’t competed for the promotion since August of 2022. Rebel suffered a dislocated knee in June 2021 that kept her out for three months, and she’s now shared the recent issue that has kept her from the ring.

On Instagram, Rebel shared a series of photos of her time spent in hospital. The 45-year-old wrestler shared that she has been battling pneumonia but is feeling better every single day.

“Next year, expect a very fit birthday bikini pic ? ?
This year has not been what I expected. I’ve kept this private until now bc I believe I’m on the up. Thank you to the very few who knew what was going on and kept it private. And for those who didn’t know, I’ll spare you the details but in short, I was hospitalized in May for a good while bc they found a mass in my lung that they couldn’t figure out what it was, turns out it’s pneumonia. A couple of ct scans found some other minor issues that I am taking care of. I feel better every day, now that I am getting a handle on these things. cheers to another trip around the sun ??”

Rebel’s post received countless well-wishes from fans as well as those in the wrestling business. Jade Cargill, Kevin Nash, Alicia Taylor, Tay Melo, Cezar Bononi, Rosa Mendes, Kilynn King, Gail Kim, and ODB were among some of the stars who sent their best to Rebel.

    Rebel Outside of AEW

Despite being hired as a hair and makeup stylist, Rebel joined AEW with an established history in the ring. Rebel debuted in Impact Wrestling in 2013 as part of The Menagerie, and would later begin training at Ohio Valley Wrestling.

In 2016, Rebel would capture the OVW Women’s Championship, and would wrestle for Stardom the following year. Three years later, Rebel made an appearance on the January 23, 2019, episode of NXT, and teamed with Amber Nova in a losing effort to KAIRI and IYO SKY.

  • Bryan Danielson on AEW Authority Role, Latest on Rebel, Kyle O’Reilly Update & More

Bryan Danielson On His AEW Authority Role

Bryan Danielson has been tasked with ensuring rules are followed within AEW, but this new responsibility doesn’t come with a bigger paycheck. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Danielson addressed her new role.

“It’s not something I get paid for. I’m just like the other wrestlers in the sense of I don’t have a contract outside of being a wrestler contract. But I was honored to take on more when they asked me to take on more roles backstage.”

Latest on Rebel’s status in AEW

The last time Rebel competed for AEW was in August of last year, and after Britt Baker turned face earlier this year, fans have seen nothing from the Dentist’s former ally. Fightful Select reports that Rebel remains under contract, and there has been talks of her being brought back to TV. With that said, there aren’t any working plans for her to wrestle.

    Kyle O’Reilly Gives An Update

It’s been over a year since Kyle O’Reilly last competed for AEW as he continues to recover from neck fusion surgery. After previously losing all feeling in his arm, O’Reilly took to social media this week to share his progress.

  • AEW Discussing Plan To Bring Absent Star Back To Television

AEW Discussing Plan To Bring Absent Star Back To Television

AEW has a few people who are out of action for one reason or another. Right now, Rebel is on the verge of breaking a huge streak in her career, because she hasn’t been seen on television in a very long time.

Rebel hasn’t been on AEW television in quite some time, but she’s still been under contract with the company. Now, we have a bit of an update about her current status.

Sean Ross Sapp reported on Fightful Select that Rebel hasn’t been backstage much during her absence from AEW television. She is open to make a television return, and there are currently some internal talks to make that happen.

When asking around, we’re told that Rebel hasn’t been backstage much during her absence from All Elite Wrestling, but has been open to returning to TV if asked. When we followed up on that, we were told there were some internal talks about her possibly being back on television, but specifics or a likelihood of that happening wasn’t revealed. We were told there weren’t working plans for her to wrestle. She has publicly expressed her desire to wrestle on the indies next year.

Rebel has been on television every year since 2014 as part of some pro wrestling company. This might change this year if she doesn’t wrestle, because she hasn’t been seen in 2023.

Rebel used to appear on a regular basis, as she worked alongside Britt Baker. However, she hasn’t been on television since Britt Baker turned babyface. It was also noted that Rebel also quit her job in the makeup department at AEW.

We will have to see if Rebel makes a return to television any time soon. Right now, there are a lot more questions than answers about her current absence.

  • Reason AEW Wrestler Has Been Pulled from TV

Reason AEW Wrestler Has Been Pulled from TV

All Elite Wrestling fans may not be seeing Rebel for the foreseeable future following the decision for her to be pulled from programming.

Rebel, real name Tanea Brooks, originally joined AEW in August 2019 as a hair & makeup stylist for its women wrestlers.

In 2020, Rebel was introduced as a character on programming and served as the exclusive makeup artist of Dr. Britt Baker.

    Removed from TV

While Rebel has remained an ally of Baker, and by proxy AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter, for some time, fans haven’t seen much of her as of late.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer clarified that Rebel is “no longer being used.”

Sources informed Meltzer that with Baker and Hayter now in a babyface role, it was felt that Rebel no longer worked as part of the act.

Baker and Hayter have become babyfaces due to their feud with Saraya and Toni Storm, both of whom have turned heel in recent months.

On June 30, 2021, Rebel suffered a dislocated knee cap injury in a match facing Nyla Rose and Vickie Guerrero which kept her out of action until September.

    Mystery Attacker Revealed On Impact

Impact Wrestling had been playing a storyline in recent weeks where a mystery attacker was assaulting people backstage.

Guys like Fallah Bahh, Sonjay Dutt, Jimmy Jacobs, and Joseph Park have been taken out since the attacks began and a card with a circled X was placed near each victim.

During the latest episode of the show, Sonjay Dutt got Petey Williams arrested after he was seen near two of the scenes. A police officer then handcuffed Williams and started taking him away.

However, after getting away from everyone, the policeman attacked the Impact Star and choked him out with a nightstick. He went on to place a card near Petey’s body, establishing himself as the real attacker and then revealed his face to the camera:

Rebel worked for TNA from 2013 to 2016 and since then she has made a number of sporadic appearances for the company. No word yet on if she will be sticking around this time but considering her loss, it doesn’t look like a strong possibility.
