Rev Pro Confirm Status of WWE Contracted Talents on Their Shows

One of the biggest promotions in the United Kingdom Revolution Pro (Rev Pro) has revealed the status of WWE UK contracted talents appearing on their shows.

Owner of Rev Pro Andy Quildan revealed via the Rev Pro Twitter account (in response to a fan question) that “Sadly those in the tournament [WWE UK Championship] and those who have also signed but aren’t in the tournament will no longer be appearing for us.” Whilst this outcome seemed inevitable this is the first time that an “official” announcement has been made publicly.

WWE have appeared to be far more aggressive in their pursuit of UK based stars since the reformation of the World of Sport (WOS) brand. We reported earlier in May that independent promotions outside of PROGRESS and ICW would no longer be able to feature WWE UK signed stars as part of their On Demand offering…however with Rev Pro’s announcement that anyone even appearing as part of the WWE UK tournament won’t be featured on their shows it changes the landscape of UK wrestling exponentially; several of the top stars on the scene such as Chris Brookes, Travis Banks, WALTER, El Ligero and Dave Mastiff have either been confirmed as WWE UK tournament competitors or are heavily linked to the UK brand.

Will Ospreay and More Announced for Strong Style Evolved UK

Revolution Pro Wrestling (Rev Pro) have announced more names for the upcoming Strong Style Evolved UK events taking place on June 30th/July 1st in Milton Keynes and Manchester respectively.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay, Taichi, Yuji Nagata, and Toru Yano will be joining the already announced leader of the Suzuki-Gun stable Minoru Suzuki, Bullet Club’s ‘New Bone Soldier’ Taiji Ishimori, Rev Pro British Heavyweight Champion Tomohiro Ishii and IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada.

Fans hoping to see the likes of Kenny Omega at the shows are sadly out of luck, he confirmed recently that he will not be heading to the UK for SSE. More names are expected to be announced for the shows in the coming weeks and we will update here on the site as soon as news becomes available.

Tickets for the first Strong Style Evolved shows outside of the United States are available to purchase via the official Rev Pro website.

Latest on WWE UK Talent Ban on British Independent Streaming Services

It has been revealed that contracted talents to WWE’s United Kingdom division are no longer allowed to be featured as part of On Demand services for independent companies across the UK…apart from two notable exceptions.

PROGRESS and Insane Championship Wrestling are arguably the two biggest independent companies in the UK and the working relationship between them and WWE has been well publicised; both feature WWE UK Superstars on a consistent basis (PROGRESS have more contracted talent) and appear to have struck deals with WWE early to ensure that their presentation is not affected.

The companies that will certainly be feeling the effect of this are Revolution Pro (Rev Pro), RIPTIDE, DEFIANT and Fight Club: Pro. The four well established brands use WWE UK stars on a regular basis and whilst Rev Pro have a strong working relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling the loss of some of their stars such as Zack Gibson, Chris Brookes et al could affect them greatly.

Fans of the UK scene had predicted this situation occurring early on during the initial WWE United Kingdom Championship tournament, with companies such as Fight Club: Pro having to show feature bouts such as The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks) vs British Strong Style (Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate and Trent Seven) ‘behind closed doors’ to fans in attendance when they would certainly have generated a massive income from DVD sales prior to WWE striking deals with UK talent.

NJPW Legend Announced for Strong Style Evolved UK

Revolution Pro Wrestling (Rev Pro) have announced that CHAOS member and New Japan Pro Wrestling legend Tomohiro Ishii will be making his way to the upcoming Strong Style Evolved UK shows taking place on June 30th/July 1st in Milton Keynes and Manchester respectively. Ishii is the current reigning Rev Pro British Heavyweight Champion, he successfully defended his title against WWE linked star Keith Lee at last weekend’s Epic Encounter event in Bethnal Green, London.

Ishii is only the second name announced for the two day Strong Style Evolved event, the first being IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada.

WWE Linked Star Posts Cryptic Tweet Following Rev Pro Event

WWE linked independent star Keith Lee posted a cryptic tweet following his appearance at Revolution Pro Wrestling’s (UK) Epic Encounter 2018 event last night. Lee faced NJPW star Tomohiro Ishii in the main event of the show for the British Heavyweight Championship, he lost the bout and left the ring to a standing ovation from the British fans.

Lee wrote “England….I sure hope there’s a next time” alluding to the rumors that he has in fact signed a contract with WWE and will be reporting to NXT and the Performance Center following his contracted independent dates this month, which include a bout against Minoru Suzuki at tonight’s OTT ScrapperMania IV show.

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter back in March both Keith Lee and fellow Independent star WALTER were offered spots at the NXT Performance Center starting in May but at that time it was unknown if WALTER was going to accept the contract. Lee was however expected to accept WWE’s offer and it appears as though he may well be making the transition to WWE in the near future.

Will Ospreay Comments on Working Injured and Updates Fans on Upcoming PROGRESS/CZW Bouts This Weekend

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay confirmed earlier this week that he would be performing in New Orleans this weekend as part of the massive independent shows surrounding WrestleMania.

The UK sensation took part in a hellacious bout with longtime rival Marty Scurll last weekend as part of New Japan’s Sakura Genesis event which saw him land awkwardly on his head following a One Man Spanish Fly from the ring apron to the floor. The match garnered a 5 Star review from journalist Dave Meltzer.

Ospreay participated in bouts for EVOLVE, Wrestlecon, PROGRESS, Rev Pro and WWN on Thursday and Friday. He has updated fans on Twitter confirming that whilst he is indeed working injured he will honoring his commitments for the rest of this weekend. Check out the tweet below:

Match Involving Will Ospreay and Kota Ibushi Taking Place WrestleMania Weekend

Two of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s brightest stars will be colliding on WrestleMania weekend when IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay takes on the ‘Golden Star’ Kota Ibushi…as part of a six-man tag team match.

Rev Pro made the announcement that Kota Ibushi will be teaming with Shane Strickland and Flip Gordon to take on the team of Will Ospreay, Rocky Romero and Chuckie T as part of their show on Friday April 6th at the WrestleCon convention in New Orleans.

Whilst a singles match between two of the top performers in the world would’ve been the first choice there is a good chance that NJPW are looking to host that bout on a much bigger stage…potentially the G1 Climax or even at a Wrestle Kingdom show.

Minoru Suzuki Match Announced for WrestleMania Weekend

Rev Pro has announced an incredible battle for their upcoming WrestleMania weekend show as part of Wrestlecon in New Orleans on Friday April 6th.

IWGP Intercontinental Champion Minoru Suzuki will be going up against Lucha Underground star Jeff Cobb in what is likely to be one of the matches of the weekend. Rev Pro has also announced that the following stars will be hand for the Supershow this April:

  • Kota Ibushi
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi
  • Juice Robinson
  • Zack Sabre Jr
  • Will Ospreay
  • Aussie Open

More names are expected to be announced closer to the event.

Rev Pro Announce International Tag Team Bout for Wrestlecon

Revolution Pro Wrestling has announced a huge International tag team bout for their Wrestlecon event during WrestleMania weekend in New Orleans.

The team of Hiroshi Tanahashi and Juice Robinson will be taking on one of the best up and coming tag teams on the UK independent scene in Aussie Open. We had this to say about the incredible duo as part of our ‘Best Emerging UK Tag Teams’ article earlier this year:

Comprising Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis, Aussie Open are one of the most dynamic and exciting teams to emerge from the UK scene in the past year. Having first formed in the ATTACK! promotion back in August they have been challenging for titles in the likes of HOPE, Rev Pro, IPW:UK and CZW which is an absolute testament to their talent and ability to gel so quickly as a unit. Aussie Open have a strong big man/little man dynamic almost akin to that of an early Hart Foundation, the stacked Mark Davis provides a powerful hot tag whilst teammate Kyle Fletcher has an agile flair to his in ring approach. If you are able to catch this team during Wrestlemania weekend in New Orleans (they will be performing on at least one card that weekend for Fight Club Pro) then you absolutely must, they are a force of nature and have no clear end in sight for their ability.

Kota Ibushi Announced For WrestleMania Weekend

Revolution Pro has announced an absolutely huge name for their WrestleMania weekend show on Friday 6th April at WrestleCon.

NJPW star Kota Ibushi will be making his way over to New Orleans to compete alongside the likes of Tomohiro Ishii, Zack Sabre Jr and Minoru Suzuki. Rev Pro have a long standing relationship with New Japan and this could potentially lead to a UK appearance for the ‘Golden Star,’ who was last seen on UK shores setting fireworks on himself for XWA UK.

Kota’s opponent has not yet been named however the current rumor is that Will Ospreay will be facing his NJPW colleague…a match that could easily steal the match of the weekend plaudits should it happen, Ospreay himself addressed the potential dream match with the following tweet:

Zack Sabre Jr vs Tomohiro Ishii Announced for WrestleMania Weekend

Revolution Pro Wrestling has announced the first match for their WrestleMania weekend show at WrestleCon in New Orleans.

The Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship will be on the line when Zack Sabre Jr defends against Tomohiro Ishii. Not only is this a bout to determine who can be regarded as the best performer in Rev Pro, but it is also a bout that pits Suzuki-Gun against the CHAOS faction, two of New Japan’s most highly regarded stables.

It is expected that more names will be announced for the show as we draw closer to that magic weekend in April, there are already confirmations that Minoru Suzuki and Will Ospreay will be in NOLA for WrestleMania weekend so expect their featured bouts to be announced shortly.

Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb Announced for Rev Pro ‘Epic Encounter,’ Could This Lead to a NJPW Run?

The ‘Chosen Bros’ tag team of Lucha Underground’s Jeff Cobb and EVOLVE/PROGRESS’ Matt Riddle will be making their way to Rev Pro’s ‘Epic Encounter’ event on May 11th from the world famous York Hall in Bethnal Green, London. The team were expected to be part of New Japan’s World Tag League event last year but plans were allegedly nixed once NJPW officials became aware of Riddle’s previous drug history. Jeff Cobb still made an appearance in the tournament alongside Michael Elgin.

With Rev Pro’s strong working relationship alongside New Japan there is always the chance that Riddle could be brought into the fold, he is regarded as one of the top independent stars on the planet and could be a huge asset to New Japan, especially considering their US expansion plans.

Riddle and Cobb will be taking on one of the best up and coming teams on the UK circuit right now, Aussie Open. Comprised of Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis, Aussie Open have been tearing through the United Kingdom’s tag ranks ever since they joined forces in 2017. Incredible bouts through PROGRESS against the likes of Mark Haskins & Jimmy Havoc, CCK and Moustache Mountain/British Strong Style have garnered the Australian stars a huge following on UK shores. This bout will surely be Aussie Open’s biggest test yet and a massive opportunity to test themselves against two of the world’s best.

The two main event bouts for the card have also been announced and they are as follows:

  • Revolution Pro British Tag Team Championship Match – Suzuki-gun (RPW British Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr & IWGP Intercontinental Champion, Minoru Suzuki) vs CCK (Chris Brookes & Travis Banks)
  • WWN World Champion Keith Lee Vs Tomohiro Ishii

Keith Lee vs Tomohiro Ishii and Suzuki Gun vs CCK Announced for Rev Pro ‘Epic Encounter’

Revolution Pro Wrestling has announced the first two matches for their upcoming Epic Encounter event on Friday May 11th.

EVOLVE and PROGRESS star Keith Lee will be facing Tomohiro Ishii for the second time, the first bout was a hard hitting spectacular for the Rev Pro faithful and this sequel looks set to wow the York Hall fans once again.

The second announced bout sees Undisputed British Tag Team Champions Minoru Suzuki and Zack Sabre Jr taking on the team of Travis Banks and Chris Brookes. Also known as CCK, Banks and Brookes will be looking to introduce Suzuki to the best that the UK scene has to offer, this could well be one of the best tag bouts in the country this year and is definitely worth checking out on demand in May.
