Watch: Fenix Suffers Gnarly Arm Injury At AEW Dynamite

The premiere episode of AEW Dynamite on TBS ended with Rey Fenix suffering an arm injury.

Dynamite’s main event this week featured a tag team title match. The Lucha Bros put the AEW World Tag Team Championships on the line against Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus.

Jungle Boy picked up the win for his team, securing himself and Luchasaurus their first taste of championship gold in AEW. He reversed Made In Japan into a pin for the three-count in the biggest victory of his young career.

Unfortunately, the win was overshadowed by a freak injury that will surely put Rey Fenix out of action for months.

Fenix’s Arm Is Totaled

Moments before the conclusion of the match, Luchasaurus landed a chokeslam on Fenix from the ring apron onto a table.

Unfortunately, Fenix’s arm landed all kinds of wrong.

Fenix is known for his risk-taking style but in this situation, the table bump was rather tame compared to some of the wild things he’s pulled off. It just goes to show that the old saying, “This ain’t ballet” rings true in the world of pro wrestling.

SEScoops has learned that Rey Fenix was hospitalized after AEW Dynamite. It’s believed that he dislocated his elbow, but we’re waiting on further confirmation.

(Update) Alex Abrahantes provided the following update on Thursday morning:

Rey Fenix To Miss Double Or Nothing Due To Injury

Rey Fenix hasn’t wrestled on AEW programming in recent while and new reports reveal that the high flying star has been on the shelf due to some injuries.

Dave Meltzer talked about the Mexican star in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter and revealed that he is out of action with injuries.

Meltzer also mentioned that the injuries will force Fenix to miss the Double Or Nothing PPV on May 30. Though he did not elaborate further on his condition.

The belief is that the AEW star suffered the damage during a recent match in Mexico, although which match it could have been is also unknown.

Rey Fenix alongside Penta El Zero Miedo are the current AAA tag team champions but the brothers have not defended the titles in recent months.

He has not wrestled for All Elite Wrestling this month either. Fenix’s last match for the promotion was a singles bout against Chuck Taylor on the April 29 episode of AEW Dark: Elevation.

While the former Lucha Underground star will be missing the upcoming PPV of the company, both of his Death Triangle teammates will be competing on the show in different matches.

Penta is currently scheduled to wrestle in the Casino Battle Royale while Pac, alongside Orange Cassidy and the AEW champion Kenny Omega will be competing in a triple threat match for the title.

Rey Fenix, Britt Baker Pulled From AEW Double Or Nothing Due To Injury

Two stars injured at Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite will be unable to compete at tonight’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view.

While it was originally said that Rey Fenix has been cleared to compete at the Double Or Nothing PPV, he has now been removed from the show.

The high flying star got banged up during this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. The company then announced late Friday night that the former LU star is not cleared to compete at the show this Saturday.

Fenix will now be replaced by Joey Janela in the Casino Ladder match with the winner getting a future title shot at the AEW World Champion Jon Moxley:

AEW also announced Britt Baker has been pulled from the show. She suffered a knee injury during the women’s tag match. Her health will be addressed Saturday night. Penelope Ford will now face Kris Statlander in her place.

Fenix Scheduled To Wrestle Tonight After Suffering Injury

Rey Fenix is scheduled to wrestle again tonight for Big Time Wrestling despite seemingly having suffered a leg injury in his match for the promotion last night.

Fenix and his brother Pentagon Jr. were wrestling Jutentud Guerrera and Teddy Hart when Fenix is reported to have grabbed his leg and rolled to the outside.

Big Time Wrestling announced on their Facebook page that Fenix will wrestle tonight as scheduled on their show in Enfield, Connecticut.

“We are happy to announce Rey Fenix will be WRESTLING as schedule tonight in Enfield, CT,” the promotion’s announcement reads.

Taya Valkyrie Tweeted out later in the evening that she had spoken to Fenix and he did not suffer a broken leg:

Rey Fenix Championship Statistics

Fenix is a double champion in AAA right now. He is the current Mega Champion and one-half of the AAA tag-team champions along with his brother Pentagon Jr.

Fenix is also a former Lucha Underground champion and 2x Gift of the Gods champion. He was ranked #61 in the PWI Top-500 rankings last year.

Fenix and Pentagon Jr. are scheduled to take on the Young Bucks in a ladder match August 31st in Chicago at All Out.

Fenix Suffers Leg Injury At Big Time Wrestling Event

One-half of the Lucha Bros, Fenix, suffered a leg injury last night at a Big Time Wrestling show. The Lucha Bros were taking on the team of Juventud Guerrera and Teddy Hart at the time.

Fenix is said to have just delivered a super-kick to Hart when he grabbed his leg and rolled out of the ring. He motioned that he was hurt and Guerrera pinned Pentagon in the ring shortly after.

Fenix and Pentagon are scheduled to face Matt & Nick Jackson for the AAA tag team championships on August 31st at All Out in Chicago. Taya Valkyrie spoke with Fenix and Tweeted out the following update, noting that he did not suffer a broken leg:

Lucha Bros vs Young Bucks

The scheduled ladder match between the Lucha Bros and Young Bucks at All Out will be the latest in a long-running rivalry between the two teams. In 2019, the teams have met five times already.

The Bucks defeated the Lucha Bros for the AAA tag titles in an impromptu match at Rey De Reyes and then again at Double or Nothing earlier this year. The Lucha Bros then won the titles back at Verano De Escandalo. At Fyter Fest, the Bucks teamed with Kenny Omega and defeated the Lucha Bros and the Laredo Kid but then dropped a rematch between the same teams at TripleMania.

Lucha Brothers Reclaim AAA World Tag Team Championships

Mexican promotion AAA held their Verano de Escandalo event last night.

During the show, the Lucha Brothers, Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr., would defeat The Young Bucks in tag team action, reclaiming the AAA World Tag Team Championships in the process.

The Young Bucks won the titles from the Lucha Brothers earlier this year. They would successfully defend the belts against Fenix and Pentagon Jr. during All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) recent show, Double Or Nothing.

Working Relationship

AEW, who have a working relationship with AAA (as well as several other promotions worldwide), posted the following to their Twitter account following the victory:

“#AndNEW @luchalibreaaa World Tag Team Champions @PENTAELZEROM and @ReyFenixMx #LuchaBros”

This relationship between the promotions will probably see the two teams continue to feud as AEW continues to grow. They are scheduled to face off in 6-man tag team action at AEW’s next event, Fyter Fest.

Fyter Fest

At the time of writing, the current Fyter Fest card is as follows:

Pre-Show Hardcore Match

  • Michael Nakazawa vs Alex Jebailey

Main Card

  • Cody vs Darby Allin
  • The Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson) vs Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr., Rey Fenix), and TBA
  • Jon Moxley vs Joey Janela
  • Adam Page vs Jimmy Havoc vs Jungle Boy vs MJF
  • Christopher Daniels vs Cima
  • Yuka Sakazaki vs Riho vs Nyla Rose

Fyter Fest takes place on June 29th from the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is taking place alongside the Community Effort Orlando (CEO) fighting game event.

Injury Update On Rey Fenix

We recently reported on one half of the Lucha Bros., Rey Fenix, suffering an injury during a live event for AAW in Austin, Texas. An MRI revealed that Fenix suffered a muscle contusion. He was told he would need to take it easy for a while to rest and heal up.

Thankfully, that appears to have done the trick as Rey Fenix took part in the recent tapings for Impact Wrestling.

He and his brother faced off against LAX, who were accompanied by Konnan. The matchup was for the Impact Tag Team Championships, which Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix currently hold. The taping is set to air on February 22nd.

Fenix originally sustained the damage whilst attempting a stunner and had to be stretchered out of the ring area in front of concerned fans. AAW requested that fans did not take pictures as the unmasked luchador was helped into an ambulance.

Double Or Nothing

Looking to the future, The Lucha Bros. are set to wrestle The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) at AEW’s ‘Double Or Nothing’ event. That show goes down on May 25th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The Lucha Bros. attacked the Bucks during AEW’s recent Ticket Announcement Party, sending a direct message to the Jackson brothers over their intentions come ‘Double Or Nothing.’

Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix Agree To Wrestle For AEW

All Elite Wrestling has been going all out and pulling no stops to acquire as much talent as possible from the independent scene and without much surprise Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Hangman Page and SoCal Uncensored were present at McAloon Productions’ Come Hell or High Water event in Atlanta, GA last night.

In the main event of the pay-per-view show, the current Impact Tag Champions The Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix) defeated SCU (Frankie Kazarian & Christopher Daniels), after which they were met with a thankful speech from The Young Bucks who said that they are grateful to the Lucha Brothers for keeping tag team wrestling alive.

The Jackson Brothers then proceeded to offer an All Elite Wrestling contract to the Lucha Brothers. Although the offer did not involve any official paperwork, the Young Bucks said that a handshake agreement would do just fine for now.

Before the Lucha Brothers could respond, they were met with an attack from local wrestlers who were part of the event. SCU came to the rescue of the Lucha Brothers and they along with the Young Bucks fended off the attacks.

Pentagon Jr. and Fenix then agreed to join AEW, by shaking the Young Bucks’ hands.

Pentagon and Fenix are still wrestling for MLW and Impact Wrestling, where they are the current World Tag Team Champions.

Chris Jericho has announced Pentagon & Fenix signed exclusive deals with AEW. The tweet was later deleted.

Rey Fenix Injured At CMLL Show

It was only a few months ago that the internet was rife with rumors and speculation over where the Lucha Bros. (Rey Fenix and Penatgon Jr.) would end up.

Unfortunately for Rey Fenix, it appears the answer for him is: at home, healing.

Taking to Instagram, Rey Fenix updated his fans on his current situation, explaining that he would be taking the rest of 2018 off in order to heal and rehab his body. The luchador suffered an unfortunate injury, straining his groin, at a recent CMLL event.

“Hello everyone. Today I don’t have a good news. Yesterday night, I wrestle one of the most important matches in CMLL #LaLeyendaDePlata. Like every match I wrestle my 100% excited and passionate. Unfortunately, last night I ended up with a muscular strain in my groin. Everything is good! Just the bad thing, I need cancel every show in December, I will keep every promoter and you guys informed abut my recovery. Thank you, everybody! Thank you for your messages and your love, I wish that people in attendance returned with a smile after the show. My apologies to all people who were waiting for me in their city soon.”

With a schedule that has seen him extensively travel the world throughout 2018, wrestling for promotions such as CMLL, AAA, MLW, Impact Wrestling, and Lucha Underground, Fenix has been on an undeniable run this year.

We wish Rey Fenix a speedy recovery and look forward to what he achieves come 2019.

Update On Pentagon Jr & Rey Fenix

Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of talk regarding the futures of Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix. At one point, it seemed as though the Lucha Bros.’ future appeared obvious: WWE. However, Pentagon Jr. stated over the weekend that he is “not going anywhere” any time soon.

According to Dave Meltzer, Pentagon and Fenix are currently tied up with their Lucha Underground contracts. He speculated that they might have an “out” clause after the current season ends, at which point they’d be able to negotiate with other companies. They very well might wind up in WWE next year, but you can be sure there will also be interest in the companies like Lucha Underground, Impact Wrestling, Lucha Libre AAA and MLW.

Independent Living

With so much interest in them from such major promotions, Pentagon Jr. and Fenix have the rare opportunity to control their own destiny with their decision.
With The Young Bucks, Cody, and Kenny Omega having spearheaded a revolution, demonstrating that you don’t necessarily need the WWE to have a successful career in wrestling, all the wrestling world can do is wait in anticipation to see where they end up.

Championship Bros.

Pentagon Jr. has accomplished a lot on the independent scene. He has won the AAW Heavyweight Championship, AAA Latin American Championship, Impact World Championship, and Lucha Underground Championship.

Fenix accomplishments include the AAW Heavyweight Championship and currently, he is the AAA Mega Champion. He is also a former Lucha Underground Champion.
The Lucha Bros. currently hold the MLW World Tag Team Championship for Major League Wrestling.

MLW Drops Cryptic Hint About Pentagon & Fenix Being NXT Bound

Major League Wrestling (MLW) might have given the strongest indication yet that Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix are WWE bound next year. Following memorable performances at last weekend’s All In pay-per-view, the Lucha Bros. were in action at Thursday night’s MLW War Games event from Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The MLW Twitter account posted the following before the show:

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1037816334342676481?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Did you spot it? Of course you did. There’s a reason this tweet has so many interactions. So, what is nxt for Pentagon and Fenix? As we’ve been covering, the brothers from Tijuana, Mexico are said to be on the radar of WWE.

Recently, it was noted in the Wrestling Observer that they are not accepting independent bookings beyond the end of the year. Many industry pundits have taken this as another indication they are will headed ‘up north’ in a matter of months.

In addition to working for Major League Wrestling, Pentagon and Fenix also have prominent roles with Lucha Underground and Impact Wrestling.

What matches are you excited should Pentagon and Fenix sign with WWE?

Pentagon & Fenix Pulled From TV Taping Amid WWE Rumor

Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix have been pulled from MLW’s October 4th TV taping from Queens, NY. The development comes amid reports that WWE is interested in MLW talent.

On Friday, MLW announced Lucha Libre legend LA Park will face Pierre Carl Ouellet (PCO) on 10/4. That will be a fun attraction, but it replaces a previously announced tag title match.  MLW Tag-Team Champions The Lucha Bros. (Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix) had been scheduled to face LA Park & El Hijo de LA Park. That match has been scrapped due to Pentagon & Fenix being unable to fulfill the commitment.

The MLW Fury Road tapings are scheduled for Thursday, October 4th at the Melrose Ballroom in Queens, New York. For ticket information, visit MLWTickets.com.

Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix: WWE Bound?

Earlier this week, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided an update on the buzz that Pentagon and Fenix are on WWE’s radar. The brothers have reportedly been reaching out to promoters and informing them they may not be able to honor certain dates brooked through 2019.

We will follow this story as more details become available. Pentagon and Fenix are key players on the rosters of MLW, Impact Wrestling and Lucha Underground. Both men are scheduled for All In on September 1st. They would make big additions to one of WWE’s rosters, but this would also be a hit to several other promotions.
