Rey Mysterio’s Son Training With Lance Storm

Lance Storm’s wrestling school has produced several successful wrestlers in recent years. Tenille Dashwood, Tyler Breeze, Chelsea Green, Taya Valkyrie, and Peyton Royce just to name a few.

Rey Mysterio is hoping his son Dominic is the next Storm Wrestling Academy graduate to be successful in the business. Dominic Gutierrez has begun training with Storm in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Mysterio took to Instagram to share photos of Dominic and Storm.

Storm isn’t the only person to train Dominic, however. Earlier this year, Jay Lethal also worked with Mysterio’s son.

“He’s up training with Jay Lethal right now,” Mysterio said on the E&C podcast earlier this year. “I’m going to have him train as much as he can in different countries. Right now he’s training with Jay. I want to get him out with Lance in Calgary [Canada]. Is he in Calgary? Yeah, uh huh. And eventually, if I can get him to Japan and to Europe. And the final touch would be the Mexican side. That’s when I get ahold of him and we do one-on-ones, so eventually, when it’s time to tap out and hang up the mask, I would love to leave him set, so he can take over the name and the brand and take it to the next level.”

Rey Mysterio WWE Update

It was reported earlier this week that Rey Mysterio and WWE have reached terms on a deal. Mysterio is believed to have signed a 2-year contract with the promotion. As of this writing, it’s not clear when he will begin on WWE programming.

Rey Mysterio Teases Huge NJPW Match

Rey Mysterio Jr. is expected to head to WWE soon but his post-match comments from the G1 Climax 28 final show indicate the luchador may have some unfinished business in NJPW still.

Mysterio has cleared his schedule for the latter part of September, which has led many to believe he’ll be WWE bound then or shortly after. He is still booked for Chris Jericho’s cruise at the end of October, however.

On Sunday, Mysterio teamed with KUSHIDA and Ryusuke Taguchi and defeated Kazuchika Okada and Roppongi 3K. Following the match, Mysterio indicated he’d like to face Okada in a single’s match.

Rey Mysterio Wants Single’s Match With Kazuchika Okada

“I would love to see a single’s match between Okada and Rey Mysterio Jr,” Mysterio said in the back. “Let’s see what happens. Thank you.”

New Japan Pro-Wrestling kicks off their “Destruction” tours in September. Mysterio could face Okada in single’s action on any of the big Destruction shows on the tour.

Mysterio will also be in trios action at All In on September 1st. He will team with Fenix and Bandido to face the Young Bucks and Kota Ibushi. Although Cody will face Nick Aldis for the NWA title that night as well, some are saying the trios match could be the night’s main event.

Report: Rey Mysterio Jr. Expected Back In WWE By October

New details have been released as it concerns Rey Mysterio’s return to WWE. There has been a long back-and-forth between the two sides ever since Mysterio’s Royal Rumble appearance earlier this year.

In all likelihood, Rey Mysterio will be back in WWE before October.

Mysterio does not have any bookings past the first weekend of September, meaning a WWE  return not long after is almost certain. The WWE 2K19 video game is released October 5th, 2018 and Mysterio is a featured character in the game’s advertising. It’s unlikely he won’t return in time to promote the game. Mysterio returning before October would also allow him to participate in the Australian mega-show on October 6th, 2018.

Rey Mysterio to WWE Update

“It appears (Mysterio’s) last dates are the first weekend of September,” stated Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer. “They did push the idea of bringing him in sooner, to keep him off All In in particular as well as some of the other shows he’s got but really All In was the key one.”

Earlier this week, Mysterio’s match for All-In was announced. He will team with Fenix and Bandido to face Kota Ibushi and the Young Bucks.

Mysterio’s WWE return was likely sealed at this year’s Royal Rumble.

“It’s been incredible,” Mysterio said to the Mirror UK. “I have nothing to say but to thank the fans for their loyalty, for their respect, for being a Rey Mysterio fan from day one… and for all those fans that have never seen me on TV, because this is a new generation of fans that are watching the WWE.”

“So to all the new fans that have heard about Rey Mysterio, or played as me in a video game, or seen me on the Network, for the first time if you got the chance to see me at the Royal Rumble, thank you very much for being part of it as a fan.”

Rey Mysterio Booked For NJPW Event Next Month

New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced Rey Mysterio will return to the promotion next month. The famous luchador is scheduled to have a match on the final night of the G1 Climax 28 show from the Nippon Budokan on August 12th, 2018.

Mysterio’s opponent for the show has yet to be named, however. His only match for NJPW to date was at last month’s Dominion. On that night, he teamed with Hiroshi Tanahashi and Jushin Liger in a losing effort to Cody, Hangman Page, and Marty Scurll.

Mysterio originally challenged Jushin Liger when he first appeared in NJPW. A match between the two legends for Strong Style Evolved was eventually scrapped last year, however. Mysterio was forced to withdraw from the event due to a torn bicep.

It’s possible Liger is named later as his opponent, however that is only speculation.

At 43-years-of age, Mysterio has been working hard to keep in shape for what is likely the final few years of his career. Mysterio posted on Instagram recently that he is having stem cell therapy done on his knee (which has been a frequent problem) and his bicep (which he tore last year).

Rey Mysterio WWE Contract Update

Yesterday, we reported that Rey Mysterio and WWE were close to a deal. The only remaining sticking points were the remaining commitments Mysterio has left. One of those dates is All-In on September 1st, 2018. Mysterio does have dates booked after then as well.

Rey Mysterio Jr. Injury Update

Over the weekend, it was reported Rey Mysterio Jr. suffered a torn biceps. Mysterio suffered the injury during a match in Waterbury, CT on Friday night.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter was the first to report on Mysterio’s injury, though this was before he had seen a doctor. While Mysterio felt he had torn his biceps, the Observer is now reporting his injury was only diagnosed a grade 1 level strain. A mildly strained biceps should heal on his own within weeks.

The Lucha Libre focussed website, Lucha Blog, tweeted out an update last night:

Rey Mysterio Jr’s Upcoming Schedule

News that Mysterio’s injury is not as severe as once feared should be welcome news to fans of NJPW. On March 25th, Mysterio is scheduled to face Jushin Liger at Strong Style Evolved.

The favorable diagnosis is also a good sign Mysterio will be able to compete over WrestleMania weekend as well.

Rey Mysterio Jr’s Pending Free Agency, WWE and GFW Interested

According to a report from Sports Illustrated, both WWE and GFW are making a play to sign soon-to-be-free agent Rey Mysterio Jr.

Mysterio is signed to Lucha Underground up until Season 3 finishes airing in September. He also has a “First Look Contract” with the El Rey Network which is believed to expire this summer.

He will then have to complete a 90-day no compete clause before  performing for another promotion.

Could Rey Mysterio Be Back in WWE?

There is still no word given on when Lucha Underground plans to shoot a 4th season, leaving many on their roster frustrated. Should LU announce continued funding and future taping dates soon, the promotion might still be in a position to re-sign Mysterio.

GFW is said to really want Mysterio, especially considering what has been going on with the company’s current top star, Alberto El Patron, at the moment.

Another factor which could impact where Mysterio lands, is his son Dominic’s future training. Dominic has begun training to be a pro-wrestler, and a developmental deal for him could be part of Mysterio’s contract negotiations with WWE.

Lucha Underground sent out the following press release hyping Rey’s arrival, including quotes from the man himself.

AAA Cancels Guerra De Titanes; Has No TV Tapings Scheduled

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNw08eDy0w0

AAA just announced on their official Facebook page that the December 4th Guerra de Titanes supercard has been cancelled:

This comes just two days after AAA announced Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Johnny Mundo as the main event for the recently vacated (by Alberto “El Patron” Del Rio) AAA Super Mega Heavyweight Championship. It’s not clear why this happened, with the press release being vague at best. It promises some kind of make-up card for the Tampico/Madero region down the line, but that’s about it. The issue is more complicated than “just” cancelling a major show, though, as pointed out by LuchaBlog’s Twitter account:

AAA now has no TV tapings on their schedule only has enough TV in the can to cover this coming weekend and the following weekend. They have cards that they could convert to TV tapings, and they’ve done things like that in the past. LuchaBlog also points out that we should learn more soon:
