WATCH: Kenny Williams Calls Out Rey Mysterio Ahead of ICW Fear & Loathing X

WWE/WCW legend Rey Mysterio will be making his debut for ICW in 12 days at Fear & Loathing X.

Fear & Loathing is ICW’s biggest event of the year and the inclusion of Mysterio has been a huge boost for the company looking to sell out the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Mysterio’s opponent for the event is ICW homegrown talent Kenny Williams, who has been a mainstay on the UK independent scene for the past couple of years. William’s highest profile bout to this point has been on the reboot episode of World of Sport however this match with Mysterio completely eclipses anything he has achieved so far in his career.

ICW recently released a shot promo from William’s where he calls out Rey, he asks why Mysterio has not yet responded to his verbal jabs and the company has begun teasing fans asking “will we hear from the master of the 619 before November 19th?”

Kenny Williams Talks Upcoming ICW Match with Rey Mysterio

ICW star Kenny Williams is set to have arguably the biggest match of his career when he challenges WWE legend Rey Mysterio at Fear & Loathing X on Sunday November 19th from the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Williams recently spoke to Scotland’s Sunday Post about the match and how he idolised the Luchador superstar growing up:

“It’s hard to put into words.” My mum found out about the match and she doesn’t normally know any of the people I’m wrestling. She said: ‘I can’t believe you’re wrestling one of your toys!’ If you would’ve told me when I was 12 years old that I’d be standing in The Garage challenging Rey Mysterio I’d have called you an idiot!”

Regarding his time in ICW, he stated: “I started off as a stand-in replacement for someone who pulled out last minute. The crowd took to me, and the fact they’ve continued to support me, you can’t repay that.Getting to open the show at the Barrowlands in the first wrestling event there for thirty odd years was a great moment too,”

“I’ve been up and down the country on tours, tour buses… We’re like the best rock and roll school that money can buy!”

– We previously reported that Kalisto dedicated his Cruiserweight Championship win last night to Rey Mysterio and the late WWE Hall Of Famer Eddie Guerrero (as it was his birthday last night). Mysterio later responded to Kalisto and claimed that Guerrero is smiling after the win:

Updates On Rey Mysterio’s Status And Where He Could Be Headed Next

In the past couple of months, we have heard many rumours about Rey Mysterio’s future and it was reported by multiple sources that he was in talks with WWE.

However, recently it was revealed that the talks between Mysterio and WWE have broken down and the High Flyer will not be returning to the company he called home for well over a decade.

Now the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has explained how events occurred and why things didn’t work out between the two parties.

According to the Newsletter, things were overblown from the start as the talks between WWE and the Mexican Star never reached a serious stage. Apparently, when the news of Mysterio possibly returning to WWE came, he was actually talking to GFW.

As we noted before, the deal breaker on WWE’s part was his representative Konnan whom Vince McMahon apparently has a grudge with. On the other hand, Rey’s reason for not signing with WWE was their tight schedule.

It’s been said that at this stage of his career, the former World Champion is looking to work a lighter schedule where he could also work on side projects, which would not have been possible in WWE.

Regarding his future, it’s being said that he is expected to receive a significant offer from GFW soon and it’s most likely the next destination of the High Flying Star.

Though it’s worth noting that Rey Mysterio has a non-compete clause due to which he won’t be able to work for GFW for at least 90 days after the current season of Lucha Underground expires in September.

Rey Mysterio Reportedly Not Returning To WWE

A few weeks ago it was reported that former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio could possibly be returning to the company, as the free agent was negotiating with both WWE and Global Force Wrestling (a.k.a TNA and Impact Wrestling). Per a new report from Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, however, that is no longer the case.

The report suggests that Mysterio will, in fact, not be returning to WWE due to the fact that “The Chairman Of The Board” Vince McMahon has no interest in doing any business with “The Master Of The 619’s” representation – Konnan. Konnan and McMahon reportedly have some issues stemming back a couple of decades ago, as McMahon invested a lot of time and money into Konnan’s ‘Max Moon’ character which ultimately didn’t pan out.

Konnan was at a recent SmackDown Live taping to visit Chris Jericho and it apparently didn’t do much to help his relationship with McMahon.

Rey Mysterio Set to Appear for ICW in November

Scottish based promotion Insane Championship Wrestling has announced that former WWE and WCW star Rey Mysterio will be appearing at their Fear & Loathing X event in November.

Fear & Loathing is the ‘Wrestlemania’ in ICW’s calendar year, previous events have seen the likes of Finn Balor, Kurt Angle and Mick Foley appear and the SSE Hydro in Glasgow can hold a capacity of around 2,500 to 3,000 fans.

Rey Mysterio has been making more and more appearances on the UK scene recently and with some upcoming shows with WCPW he seems set to continue this trend.

Karen Jarrett Teases Potential Free Agent Signing; Posts Photo with Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio Jr. is expected t become a free agent this fall after season 3 of Lucha Underground finishes airing on the El Rey Network. Mysterio would then have to complete a 90 day no-compete clause before he could wrestle for another promotion with a television deal.

GFW and WWE are said to both be interested, but Karen Jarrett seems to be teasing that her promotion is the one that will land the popular 42 year-old luchador.

She posted the following earlier:

Rey Mysterio to GFW

Global Force Wrestling has had two public relations nightmares since the Jarrett’s regained control over the company. Between fans feeling the company is preventing the Hardys from using the Broken gimmick in WWE, and Alberto El Patron’s recent actions, GFW has come under some hard luck lately.

Rey Mysterio is a proven draw, and with the loss of El Patron, that is something GFW needs. The company is most likely looking for any big splash they can make right now.

WCPW Celebrates 1st Anniversary, Releases ‘Behind the Scenes’ Video

What Culture Pro Wrestling (WCPW) are celebrating their first anniversary this week. The YouTube based company has had an impressive start in the industry, having produced a number of high profile Pay Per View events including the likes of Kurt Angle, Alberto El Patron, Drew McIntyre, Rey Mysterio and Cody Rhodes.

Recent events concerning YouTube’s ‘Adpocalypse’ has seen WCPW in the news for the wrong reasons. Pro Wrestling is now viewed by the streaming service as ‘non-advertiser friendly’ and WCPW has been struggling to earn ad revenue since the change to YouTube’s policy.

Check out the video below for some interesting tidbits from WCPW’s first year in existence.

Rey Mysterio vs Marty Scurll Announced for Rev Pro’s Summer Sizzler 2017

Top UK Independent promotion Rev Pro has announced the first match for their Summer Sizzler event that takes place in York Hall, Bethnal Green on Thursday 17th August.

Former WWE/WCW star Rey Mysterio will be taking on ‘The Villain’ Marty Scurll. Mysterio has made some sporadic appearances across the UK this year, including dates for WCPW and World Association of Wrestling. It appears as though Rey may be taking more UK dates going forward and he sees the region as a home away from home.

‘The Villain’ on the other hand has been touring the globe and has not featured on many UK based cards this year. His recent debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament has impressed many and this match against crusierweight legend Mysterio will only help to boost his already impressive resume.

Rey Mysterio Explains How he Almost Signed With Impact Wrestling

Back in 2015, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio decided to leave the WWE while sitting out-of-action to nurse a wrist injury. After some back-and-forth over contract disputes, as the WWE tried to extend Mysterio’s contract without his approval, he was finally free to walk away in February of that year when his contract expired. Since then, the Mexican star has been working the indie scene in addition to doing some extensive work with Lucha Underground.

Recently, Mysterio did an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard to talk about a number of wrestling topics, including his professional life after leaving WWE. Here are the highlights:

Working with Lucha Underground and his thoughts on today’s Cruiserweights:

“Lucha Underground is the pioneer in the cruiserweight division. Years ago, Konnan mentioned to me, ‘Wrestling has to change. Wrestling cannot always be a world for the giants,’ and he was right. Wrestling has changed. That change is because of Lucha Underground. That is not boxing anyone in. Cruiserweight is a form of giving life to those that still want to break into this business. There have been more opportunities given to that cruiserweight division, and that’s been helped by a lot of companies, including Ring of Honor and TNA.”

Almost signing with Impact Wrestling:

“I was actually in conversations a while back with Impact about doing some shows. To be honest with you, it’s not that I don’t want to go work for them, it’s just like I didn’t have it in my game plan. I also didn’t have Lucha Underground in my game plan before it was created. If the circumstances were right, I wouldn’t mind going. I’m not interested in signing a contractual deal, but I would love to do some shows. People want to see diversity in their opponents and fans want to see their dream matches. If people want to see a match-up, let’s make it happen.”

Not being let back into the building by security after he had a tryout with WCW:

“People still tell me I have a babyface, and I was 21 at the time, so I looked like a 12-year-old back then. I recall explaining to the security guards, ‘No, no, it’s OK, I wrestle,’ and they looked at me and laughed. So I continued to say that I was a wrestler, and they finally asked me for a credential. I didn’t have any credentials, this was a tryout. Finally, security was cool enough to find out who I was and let me back in the building, but that happened several times after that, too. I learned my lesson after the fourth time, and I started carrying a WCW badge everywhere with me.”

My kid is a very smart individual” … “I wanted him to continue with the legacy, so now that he’s here, I just gotta do my job. I just gotta make sure that I prepare him right.
