How Rey Mysterio and Triple H Shaped Santos Escobar’s WWE Journey

On the eve of WrestleMania 39, Rey Mysterio brought back the Latino World Order and invited Santos Escobar and his Legado Del Fantasma allies to join. While Escobar is no longer part of the LWO and has feuded with the group as the leader of Legado Del Fantasma, the 40-year-old wrestler will never take his time with Rey for granted.

Speaking to Manchester World ahead of WWE’s upcoming tour of the United Kingdom, Escobar explained how much working with Mysterio has meant to him.

“It was an honor. It was a year of changing and traveling with Rey Mysterio. Long hours on the road just talking, learning and listening. He’s a beautiful person and an amazing performer. To have the opportunity to be with him was a gift.”

Escobar turned on the LWO in late 2023 after he assisted Logan Paul in his U.S. title victory over Mysterio at that year’s Crown Jewel. Mysterio had won the gold back in August, filling in for Escobar who had been attacked by then-champion Austin Theory. Tensions between the two sides continued to boil all the way to WrestleMania 40, where Rey and Andrade defeated Escobar and Dominik Mysterio.

Working With Triple H

In both WWE NXT and on the main roster, Escobar has worked closely under WWE CCO Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque. In the interview, Escobar had similar praise for the 14-time WWE World Champion.

“Triple H is always a pleasure. He’s a wise man, he knows everything. At least in my perspective, he’s been there and done that several times, so every time I have the opportunity to work with him, I just cherish it.”

With Mysterio and Triple H, Escobar has the chance to learn from two of WWE’s all-time greats, and is making the most of his opportunity. Stay tuned to SEScoops for all the latest on Santos Escobar as he continues to develop in WWE, thanks to the assistance of the two former World Champions.

Rhea Ripley On Her Thoughts On Rey Mysterio After Dominik’s Betrayal

Rhea Ripley is not walking back on her words about Rey Mysterio but she still considers Dominik Mysterio to be the bigger enemy.

The Eradicator recently had an interview with Casual Conversations podcast. She discussed things such as her friendship with Damian Priest, her reaction to leaving Judgment Day, competing in WarGames and more.

When asked how she feels about Rey now after being betrayed by Dom herself, Ripley explained that she won’t go back on her words. She still believes that the young star needed to get out of his father’s shadow even if they’re not together anymore:

“I’m not gonna be immature like Dom and contradict everything I’ve done in the past and said in the past what he has been doing in every single interview. He has been playing me out to be this bad guy, this villain in his life—which I wasn’t. I cared for him, and I loved him.

So I’m not gonna do that about this situation either. I’m gonna stand on everything I said back then. I do think that Dom had to get out of Rey’s shadow. I do believe that. Rey was picking Edge over his own son—a man who literally speared Dom in the middle of the ring, looked at him, went ‘uh,’ and then ran after Finn Bálor. That man did not care about Rey Mysterio’s son.

So why is Rey picking Edge over Dom? So I’m not gonna contradict myself and say that I do think Rey was in the right. Because I do think Rey was in the wrong. But at the same time, I think that Dom has hurt me in a bigger way than Rey ever hurt me. So he’s more in my good books than Dom is right now.”

He Got Family Issues: Rhea Ripley

Dirty Dom turned on The Mami at SummerSlam and he aligned himself with Liv Morgan instead. One of the reasons Dominik has given for this turn is that Morgan helped him beat his dad in a match, something Rhea Ripley never did.

When asked if Dom has daddy issues, the former Women’s World Champion explained that Mysterio has family issues. She also fired back at him for saying that he didn’t come up with The Mami nickname:

“You can tell a man has daddy issues when he gets so excited about getting called Daddy. He got family issues let’s be honest cause now he’s saying that I made him call me Mami and he never liked calling me Mami. You got problems my dude because you came up with that by yourself. I didn’t make you do crap.”

Dominik Mysterio most recently faced off against Damian Priest in a one-on-one match on Monday’s Raw. While he lost the bout, the Judgment Day swarmed the ring immediately afterward, delivering a brutal beatdown on both the Terror Twins.

Rey & Dominik Mysterio Appear Separately At UFC 306

In September 2023, WWE and UFC officially came together as TKO Group Holdings in a blockbuster move for both companies. Since then, fans have seen WWE Superstars at UFC events, and that was the case last night at the UFC 306 show.

UFC 306: O’Malley vs. Dvalishvili took place inside the Sphere in Paradise, Nevada, with a total of ten fights taking place. WWE’s very own Rey and Dominik Mysterio were spotlighted at the event, though were seen separately. The two have been at odds since September 2022 when Dominik turned on his Hall of Fame father at WWE Clash At The Castle in Cardiff, Wales.

WWE And UFC

WWE Superstars can often be spotted at UFC events in examples of cross-promotion branding. During UFC 302, WWE’s Rezar threw out the challenge to fight some UFC heavyweights so fans may be seeing the former Tag Team Champion in the Octagon soon enough. In February, Bianca Belair, Montez Ford, and “retired welterweight” CM Punk appeared at UFC 298.

WWE NXT Battleground was at the UFC Apex on June 9, the first time any WWE event has been held at the venue. Ironically, that show saw WWE work with yet another company, as TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace was on the card. Stay tuned to SEScoops for all the latest from WWE and their work with UFC.

Rey Mysterio Attending UFC 306 This Weekend At The Sphere

The worlds of professional wrestling and mixed martial arts will overlap once again at this weekend’s UFC 306: O’Malley vs Dvalishvili pay-per-view.

Rey Mysterio, one of WWE’s most iconic stars, has confirmed that he will attend UFC 306 this Saturday, which takes place Saturday, September 14 at The Sphere in Paradise, Nevada, as part of the Las Vegas Valley’s “Riyadh Season Noche.”

The crossover between WWE and UFC continues to grow following the merger of both organizations under the TKO umbrella last year, with stars from both promotions increasingly appearing at each other’s events.

Rey Mysterio at UFC 306

In a post on the official TKO Group Instagram page, Mysterio appeared alongside UFC fighter Brandon Moreno. The two confirmed they were in Las Vegas for the fights. Mysterio, an avid fight fan who attended a UFC event from Mexico City earlier this year, said:

“Yo, what’s up guys! This is Rey Mysterio, WWE Hall of Famer, and this is Brandon Moreno, UFC fighter. We’re very excited to be here in Las Vegas for Noche UFC 306. Let’s go, we’re ready!” Mysterio said in the video.

Nikki Garcia, Rey Mysterio & Omos Featured In Netflix Hot Dog Special

History was made in the Netflix Hot Dog special and Nikki Garcia, Rey Mysterio and Omos had a front row seat to witness the gluttony.

Famed competitive eaters Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut took part in a live Labor Day special on Netflix where the two went head-to-head in eating hot dogs and one man broke the record. Chestnut came out the victor eating an unprecedented 83 hot dogs in 10 minutes to defeat his longstanding rival who could only down 67 dogs, and there were two WWE Hall of Famers on hand in Bella and Mysterio to be apart of the prestigious face-stuffing.

Along with comedian Rob Riggle, Garcia was the host to the event while Rey Mysterio presented Chestnut with the championship title after out-eating Kobayashi. Chestnut got his own WWE gold courtesy of Mysterio, who was the presenter for Chestnut while Omos was “Team Kobayashi.”

The event had to have felt like a breath of fresh air for Garcia after the unfortunate week she had as her husband Artem Chigvintsev was arrested on a felony corporal injury charge Thursday. Chigvintsev was released on $25,000 bail and through her representative, Garcia requested privacy after the incident. Garcia was noted to not be wearing her wedding ring during the Netflix special as she was photographed boarding a private jet with her son Matteo over the weekend.

Chigvintsev called 911 following the domestic dispute along with claiming that Garcia threw shoes at him. Police noticed injuries to Garcia and then took Chigvintsev into custody.

Rey Mysterio Is Finally Living Pain Free After Stem Cell Treatment

Rey Mysterio has been competing in the ring since he was a teenager, but his legendary career has taken a toll on the WWE Hall of Famer. While Mysterio knows that the end of his wrestling career is coming, he has taken steps to carry on forward in the ring.

On Instagram, Mysterio shared that he visited the RejuvStem facility in Cancun this past July to “enhance my body’s well-being” through stem cell therapy. In just one day, Mysterio underwent the following:

  • Stem Cell IV
  • The Myers Cocktail IV
  • Stem Cells Left Knee
  • Stem Cells Right Knee
  • Stem Cells Left Shoulder
  • Stem Cells Right Wrist
  • Stem Cells Left Wrist
  • Shockwave Therapy
  • 1 Hour Hyperbaric Chamber

It may sound like a lot, but the results of this treatment speak for themselves as Rey is without pain for the first time in a long time.

“On Monday August 19th, 32 days exactly after the treatment was my first day waking up completely pain free. No soreness or tightness around the ankles and the pain on my shoulder vanished as well. My body feels incredible and this is only the beginning stage, I know my body well and understand that it is going through the healing process as we speak.”

ReJuvStem

Mysterio is just one of several WWE Superstars to work with the RejuvStem Medical Center. Rey Mysterio has also worked with the center as has Big E, who has been out of action since March of 2022 with a broken neck. More recently, Shotzi has been working with the RejuvStem team to heal up from her ACL tear suffered earlier this year. Viking Raider Erik, who underwent neck fusion surgery last year, has also worked with RejuvStem as has his tag-team partner Ivar. Sami Zayn has also joined the ranks of Stem Cell therapy recipients to deal with nagging injuries that have accumulated throughout his years in the ring.

Rey Mysterio’s WWE RAW Promo On Dominik & Liv Morgan Translated

Rey Mysterio had some choice words for Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan during this week’s RAW, which have now been translated into English. In the show’s opening segment, the Judgment Day was interrupted by Rey and the other members of the Latino World Order.

Rey delivered a promo that saw him switch back and forth between English and Spanish. Thanks to Alfred Konuwa of Forbes, we know exactly how much Rey disapproves of his son’s relationship with the WWE Women’s World Champion.

Ironically, this isn’t the first time that a Mysterio has used being bilingual to get comments to air that may not have been broadcast in English. In the run-up to SummerSlam 2024, Dominik had some scathing words for Morgan, as he called her a “dumbass” and a “b***.” This would ultimately turn out to be a ruse as the pair confirmed their relationship at the PLE in Cleveland, Ohio.

WWE RAW’s Move to Netflix

Mysterio may not have to self-censor on Monday Night RAW next year when WWE’s flagship weekly show moves to Netflix. The blockbuster deal will see RAW move off broadcast television and is estimated at $5 billion over ten years.

Much has been said about potential changes to the red brand once the moves occurs. The show will no longer be held to network rules regarding censorship or adhere to strict timing cues that they currently have to work with on the USA Network. John Cena has confirmed his role as part of RAW’s move to Netflix, as the WWE icon will be kicking off his retirement tour.

Bayley Reveals Her Dream WWE Mixed Tag Team Partner

WWE Superstar Bayley recently shared with fans who her ideal male tag team partner would be. During her appearance at Fanatics Fest NYC, Bayley expressed her admiration for a WWE legend who has inspired countless wrestlers and captivated audiences worldwide.

Bayley’s Choice: Rey Mysterio

When asked about her dream mixed tag team partner, Bayley didn’t hesitate to name Rey Mysterio as her top choice.

Mysterio has been a significant influence in the wrestling industry and Bayley mentioned that while she has teamed up with Seth Rollins in the past, she has her eyes set on Mysterio if she were to ever be part of a Mixed Tag Team match again.

“I have teamed with Seth before. That was great. Honestly, I’m going to have to say Rey Mysterio. He’ll do all the work, and I’ll just throw powerbombs out. 619 straight into a powerbomb. Sounds good to me.”

Why Rey Mysterio?

Rey Mysterio is a name that resonates with wrestling fans of all ages. His career spans decades, and his high-flying ability, even this long into his career, has made him a fan favourite, so its no doubt that Bayley would pick someone of his stature.

Mixed Match Challenge is not something that is likely to come back, but seeing BayRey would be pretty cool.

Rey Mysterio Wants Mask vs Mullet Match Against Dominik

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio wants a high-stakes match against his son, Dominik Mysterio to complete the trilogy. Rey and Dominik were previously involved in a feud that ended at WrestleMania 39. Rey, who initially hesitated to put his hands on his son, taught him a lesson. The legendary wrestler got one up against his son at ‘The Show of Shows.’ Last month, Rey once again defeated Dominik Raw.

While ‘Dirty Dom’ is desperate to get a win over his dad, Rey Mysterio wants to increase the stakes. He wants a Mask vs Mullet match against Dominik. During his appearance at Fanatics Fest NYC, Rey Mysterio told Comicbook that he is eager to put his mask on the line in the potential trilogy match and he would expect Dominik to put his Mullet on the line as well. He said:

“If that trilogy does happen, and when it does, I am willing to put my mask on the line. And he loves his mullet so much, so I would be expecting for him to put his mullet on the line. That or his Dirty Sanchez (mustache).”

Previously, Rey had pitched a Mask vs Hair match as well. At 49, Rey Mysterio is currently in the later stages of his illustrious career but he is still competing at the highest level.

Meanwhile, Dominik Mysterio is involved in a feud with former Judgment Day members Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest. Rhea and Priest were betrayed by Dominik and Finn Balor respectively. ‘Dirty Dom’ joined hands with the WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan and brought her into the faction. The new Judgment Day soon ousted Ripley and Priest.

The saga looks far from over as the Terror Twins are trying to exact revenge on Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio. They will collide in a mixed tag team match at Bash In Berlin PLE on August 31.

Travis Scott Joins WWE Legends at Day Two of Fanatics Fest NYC

The Superstars of WWE continued to make waves at the ongoing Fanatics Fest NYC event which is home to some of the biggest names in sports. The convention brings together some of the biggest names from the world’s top sports leagues. Several WWE Superstars are planned to make appearances which you can learn about with our handy Guide to WWE at Fanatics Fest NYC.

WWE At Fanatics Fest NYC: Day Two

WWE CCO Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque delighted fans with an appearance at day two of Fanatics Fest NYC. Though his career in the ring may be over, the Cerebral Assassin couldn’t help but perform his iconic entrance.

In the run-up to the day, WWE and Fanatics had promoted a special tag-team partner for WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. That mystery partner was revealed to be none other than hip-hop star Travis Scott.

Scott’s song FE!N will serve as the official theme song of WWE WrestleMania 41 in April 2025. Triple H was able to catch up with Scott after his appearance.

Scott has previously appeared for WWE in segments with ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso. He was by no means the only celebrity engaged in WWE antics at Fanatics Fest NYC as several stars showed their WWE spirit during day one of the convention.

Bianca Belair was also at day two of Fanatics Fest NYC. On Twitter, the EST was grateful to her fans who made the trip to the Javits Center.

There’s plenty to excite wrestling fans at Fanatics Fest NYC with appearances, panels, and much more announced. Stay tuned to SE Scoops for the latest from the convention.

Watch: What Happened With Jey Uso After (8/2) SmackDown Went Off Air

The Yeet Party continued after the SummerSlam go-home episode of SmackDown from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio went off air.

There were two dark matches that took place after the broadcast ended. The first bout saw Braun Strowman picking up a victory over Chad Gable in a singles match.

The second dark match of the night featured the team of Rey Mysterio, Jey Uso, The Miz and R Truth taking on The Judgement Day in an 8 men tag team bout.

The babyfaces had a lot of fun in this match and they all danced to Uso’s theme song for an extended period. They even got the World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest to do the Yeet at one point.

The ending of the match saw Rey Mysterio doing 619 on all four JD members. He then pinned Dominik to pick up the win for his team and the faces continued to celebrate long after:

Watch: Latest Call Of Duty Trailer Shows WWE Superstars In Action

Wrestling fans and gamers alike have gotten their latest look at the new Call of Duty season which features three of WWE’s top Superstars. This unlikely collaboration features Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, and Rey Mysterio entering the hit shooting/war game franchise.

In the newest trailer, fans can see the trio of Superstars use guns, as well as some of their signature moves. While Rhodes and Mysterio are available to purchase and play, Ripley is available as part of the Call of Duty Season 5 Battle Pass.

The game’s fifth season kicked off on July 24 with more than just new playable characters. Slam Deathmatch is a unique twist on traditional Team Deathmatch, focusing on finishing moves. While weapons can down enemies, points are only earned by executing Finishing Moves, which will be randomized WWE Finishing Moves in upcoming matches. This particular mode is exclusively during the in-game WWE SummerSlam event, that started on July 31.

Working with Call of Duty is a huge collaboration for WWE which has allowed three of its Superstars to flex their muscles outside of your standard WWE 2K video game. Even Arn Anderson has been pleased by the crossover, as the WWE Hall of Famer is pleased to see the in-game Cody taking his viral ‘pulled out the glock’ promo to heart.

Thea Hail On Her Wrestling Start: ‘I Saw Rey Mysterio & Said ‘I’m Doing That!”

Thea Hail may never have made a name for herself in the world of wrestling had it not been for a video of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. Sitting down with the Pittsburgh City Paper, Hail, a native of the city, recalled her start in the squared circle.

“I quit gymnastics, I quit cheer, I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life, and I was just scrolling through Instagram, and I always follow[ed] WWE. I always thought it was amazing, but I never really thought it was a thing you could do. I saw this video of Rey Mysterio, and I just put my phone down, and went, ‘I’m doing that.’”

Hail added that her dad was able to locate a training school in Pittsburgh which resulted in her receiving an AEW Dark match against Thunder Rosa. While Hail’s future would be with WWE, Rosa got her in contract with a recruiter from WWE.

Hail has since become one of the most popular women in WWE NXT thanks in no small part to her skills in the ring and infectious personality. Hail will challenge NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez tonight at WWE NXT Great American Bash (Night One.) Stay tuned to SE Scoops for all the latest from tonight’s show.

Rey Mysterio: Inspiration

Hail isn’t the only current WWE Superstar to be inspired by Rey Mysterio. Though they are currently at odds, Dominik Mysterio has said that he was inspired to enter the ring after seeing his ‘deadbeat’ father in action. Dominik’s ‘Mami’ Rhea Ripley has also admitted that she was inspired by Rey to become a wrestler and had plenty of Mysterio merchandise when she was growing up.

After facing Rey in 2018, Swerve Strickland shared online that he’d faced his “hero” as the AEW World Champion holds Mysterio in high regard. WWE Hall of Famer Lita has also said she was inspired to wrestle by Rey after her boyfriend at the time watched WCW Monday Nitro and the future Women’s Champion saw Mysterio in action.

Stay tuned to SE Scoops for all the latest on Thea Hail as well as the results and surprises from tonight’s WWE NXT Great American Bash show.

WWE & Street Fighter Teaming Up For Month-Long SuperCard Event

The worlds of WWE and Street Fighter are teaming up for a special crossover event as part of the WWE SuperCard mobile game.

In a promo video, Xavier Woods, Rey Mysterio, and Zelina Vega were ‘promoted’ with new attires resembling some of the fighting game franchise’s top characters. The crossover will last from July 17 to August 15 and will include Ryu, Juri, Luke, and Chun-Li. The new Akuma Limited Edition card will also be unlockable.

Fans will be able to battle in special game modes, and collect incredible rewards, a statement from 2K Games added. Special in-game offers, daily streaks, bundles, Card Backs, and Equipment will also be available.

Harley Howe, Studio Manager of Cat Daddy Games (the creators of WWE Supercard) shared their excitement:

“Street Fighter game nights have been a staple of the studio for decades. We’re extremely excited to welcome this franchise to the world of WWE SuperCard as both fans and players. We have done our best to build an experience blending the fusion of both games and hope everyone thoroughly enjoys it.”

WWE’s Video Game Crossovers

WWE Supercard isn’t the only mobile game that is set to see a major crossover. Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne will be a part of WWE Champions as part of the upcoming ‘Summer of Darkness’ event. Osbourne, who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021, will be a character in the game and players will have the chance to collect Ozzy-themed items to progress in the Madman Collection Contest.

Call of Duty is also getting in on the crossover fun as part of the upcoming fifth season of the newest game. This update will see WWE Superstars appear in Call of Duty though at this time it is unknown who will be making their presence felt in the hit war game franchise.

Finn Balor Praises The Early Confidence Of Dominik Mysterio: ‘He Helped Us’

Finn Balor wanted to make sure Dominik Mysterio flourished as a heel in The Judgment Day, but Dom already had a hold on being “Dirty.”

Speaking on the “What’s The Story?” podcast, Balor mentioned how much Mysterio took to being a heel. Finn recalled Rey Mysterio asking him and Damian Priest to take care of Dom during his heel turn. Balor respected Rey so much that he was going to make sure Dom did his best as a bad guy, but when Balor approached Dom about help on his first heel promo, he was ready to call it in the ring.

“He said, ‘No, no. I’m good.’ I said, ‘You know what you’re going to say?’ He said, ‘No, I’ll figure it out when I’m out there. And here’s me like naively thinking that me, Damian and Rhea are supposed to be helping Dominik, but in reality it’s Dominik helping us get heat and making us more of a believable heel unit.”

RELATED: Liv & Dominik Align, Tiffany Stratton Attempts MITB Cash-In At Live Event

Finn said how at the time, he, Damian and Rhea were having an uphill battle at being heels, but Dominik really made them “guilty by association” and his involvement really helped to establish the faction as a “bad guy” act.

Now as it stands, The Judgment Day are really the fulcrum that all of WWE RAW pivots on. Damian Priest is the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh are the World Tag Champs while Dom and Rhea Ripley are involved in the major Liv Morgan storyline in build for SummerSlam.

Stephanie Vaquer Debuts for WWE This Weekend in Mexico

WWE is not wasting any time incorporating Stephanie Vaquer into their universe.

All this week, Vaquer left CMLL and was swiftly welcomed by Shawn Michaels into the WWE fold on social media. Now to close out the work week, Vaquer will be put to work in the ring. The company announced that their newest signee will represent the brand south of the border on Saturday and Sunday.

“See Stephanie Vaquer LIVE at #WWEMonterrey and #WWEMexicoCity this weekend!”

Vaquer is getting thrown right into the WWE deep end as also advertised for those live events is Rey Mysterio, Damian Priest, Jey Uso, Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes.

It’s not very often that WWE completely puts their chips behind a new signee right off the bat, but names like Vaquer and Jade Cargill have been their few exceptions and for good reasons.

Both Cargill and Vacquer have their AEW ties, but in different fashions. Cargill was an established talent on their television while Vacquer is fresh off a very memorable match against Mercedes Mone at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

Speaking in a recent interview Vaquer mentioned how her previous experience with WWE in 2018 mentioned how it helped her out “a lot and it was an experience that I will take with me forever.”

Rey Mysterio Breaks 12-Year Record With 7/8 WWE Raw Performance

Rey Mysterio has another historic accolade to his legendary career after competing during the July 8, edition of WWE Monday Night Raw.

The show from Ottawa, Canada saw Mysterio team with LWO ally Zelina Vega to face his son ‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio and WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan. Despite Dominik being hesitant to team with Liv, the pair would work well together. The finish saw Morgan knock Rey from the top rope, giving Dom the chance to hit the frog splash and get his first-ever win over his father.

The match may not have gone Rey’s way, but Mysterio did make history in the process. This bout marked Rey’s 33rd match on WWE TV since being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2023. Mysterio now holds the record for the most WWE TV matches of any Hall of Famer after being inducted.

The previous was held by Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler who competed 32 times on WWE TV following his induction on the eve of WrestleMania 23 in March 2007. Lawler’s 32nd match would come on the September 10, 2012, Raw, mere hours before Lawler would suffer a heart attack while sat at the commentary table.

H/T to @WWEStats for uncovering this stat. Stay tuned to SEScoops for more interesting wrestling facts and statistics.

Rey Mysterio: Hall of Famer

Mysterio’s induction into the WWE Hall of Fame is just one of the many elite clubs that the Master of the 619 is a part of. In 2007, Rey was the inaugural inductee into the AAA Hall of Fame alongside the posthumous induction of AAA founder Antonio Peña. In 2010, wrestling fans voted for Rey to be inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame. That year’s class included Rey, Chris Jericho, and the posthumously inducted Wladek Zbyszko.

The Future Of Rey Mysterio

The WWE Hall of Famer may have another record to his name, but time is running out for Rey to add highlights to his legendary career. Mysterio has spoken openly in recent years that his time in the ring is coming to an end. In 2023, Mysterio, who is 49, said that he does not intend to wrestle past 50, suggesting that his career will end very soon.

Though Rey’s career in the ring will be ending in the relatively near future, his time in WWE won’t be over after he hangs up his boots. Rey signed a five-year deal with WWE in 2023 that should keep him around until he is 54 years old. It is possible that Mysterio could wrestle past 50 and if not, WWE would no doubt benefit from keeping Mysterio around in some kind of backstage role, possibly as a trainer in WWE NXT.

Rey Mysterio Will Retire When His Best Is Not Enough

Natalya Recalls Wrestling Legend Gifting Her Custom Made Boots

Rey Mysterio is one of the most beloved babyfaces in the history of wrestling business. A story from Natalya only further proves that he is as good of a guy behind the scenes as he is on screen.

The Hart Dynasty member recently had an interview with McKenzie Mitchell. They talked about the different aspects of the WWE star’s ring gears including her iconic jackets and more.

When the topic of wrestling boots came up, Natalya recalled the time Rey Mysterio gifted her a custom made pair of wrestling boots:

“It’s funny. Rey Mysterio. He is somebody that inspired me with wrestling boots. I saw a pair of boots that he was wearing and I said ‘Rey, I love those boots.’ The next week, he showed up with a pair of boots for me.

Actually, he gave me a pair of his own boots. Then he had a special pair custom made for me, which are the silver ones that are on the floor over there. That’s the kind of guy that Rey Mysterio is. He’ll literally take the shoes off of his feet and give them to you.”

One of My Most Special Treasures: Natalya

Natayla at WrestleMania 38

Natalya mentioned how she has worn the boots on many occasions. This includes WrestleMania 38 when she teamed up with Shayna Baszler to challenge for the Women’s Tag Team Championships:

“I wore these at WrestleMania when I tag teamed with Shayna. They’re so light that you almost don’t even feel [them], they’re just light as a feather. They’re so beautiful. I love them so much. The boots that Rey Mysterio gave me are like, one of my most special treasures.”

Natalya also talked about her early career and named Beth Phoenix as someone who inspired her when she first joined WWE. You can check out what Natalya had to say about her tag team with Phoenix here.

WWE Raw Preview: Liv Morgan Appearance, Rey Mysterio Vs. Damian Priest

The road to WWE Clash At The Castle: Scotland will continue forward with the June 3, edition of WWE Monday Night Raw.

WWE’s first Premium Live Event in Scotland will take place on June 15, from the OVO Hydro venue in Glasgow. With less than two weeks to go until the historic event, the Superstars of Monday Night Raw have plenty to do ahead of the event.

Liv Morgan To Appear

Merely seven days after her win over Becky Lynch as well as THAT kiss with Dominik Mysterio, Liv Morgan will be appearing on Monday Night Raw. What will the reigning WWE Women’s World Champion have to say now that Lynch is gone and after locking lips with ‘Dirty’ Dom?

The New Day Vs. AOP

Karrion Kross has set his sights on Xavier Woods in recent weeks and has even offered Woods a role with the Final Testament. Instead of accepting, Woods and Kofi Kingston will take on AOP (Akam and Rezar) in a tag-team match on the upcoming show.

Sheamus Vs. Ludwig Kaiser

The feud between these two European Superstars has already gotten very physical and fans can expect much more of that on tonight’s Raw. The four-time WWE World Champion will meet the right-hand man of Imperium in a match we imagine King of the Ring GUNTHER will be watching very closely.

Damian Priest Vs. Rey Mysterio

It was last week that Damian Priest attacked Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee after Rey’s match with Carlito. Now, the World Heavyweight Champion and the WWE Hall of Famer will do battle. With a title match with Drew McIntyre looming and the internal issues in the Judgment Day, will Priest be able to keep his mind on the task when he faces WWE’s Ultimate Underdog?

Rey Mysterio Hoping for Mexico PLE In The Historic Estadio Azteca Stadium

WWE could soon be hosting a Premium Live Event in Mexico if Hall of Famer and former World Champion Rey Mysterio gets his wish.

In recent years, WWE has become much more open to the idea of hosting Premium Live Events outside of the United States. Speaking with Graham “GSM” Matthews for Bleacher Report, Mysterio addressed the idea of a PLE being held in Mexico.

“I’m hoping that it happens in the next three years. I think my people deserve something as good as a PLE. I’m truly hoping. We have a huge stadium over there, Estadio Azteca, which I believe is being remodeled this year. I think the fans would go crazy.

“Mexico has always been an incredible crowd for wrestling and what better than to pay it off with WWE coming over there and giving them something as special as a PLE?”

Events Outside the U.S.

WWE currently has four confirmed Premium Live Events that are scheduled to happen outside the U.S. Later this month, WWE will host Clash At The Castle: Scotland in Glasgow before WWE Money in the Bank comes to Toronto, Canada. In August WWE Bash In Berlin will mark the promotion’s first PLE in Germany while the next Saudi Arabia show will be the Crown Jewel show on November 2.

As for whether a PLE comes to Mexico, that will be a decision WWE higher-ups will have to make. But with Mysterio’s time in the ring winding down and Mexico being a nation rich with wrestling history, it’s possible that the Hall of Famer will get his Mexico PLE before hanging up his boots and mask for good.

Who Killed WCW Preview Shares Insight on Infamous Lawn Dart Moment

Wrestling fans are in for a treat next week, as Vice TV will air the first episode of the Who Killed WCW docuseries. The project, executive produced by Hollywood megastar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and the creators of Dark Side Of The Ring, aims to share a new perspective on the rise and fall of WCW. The series will air on June 4 and will have four episodes.

Ahead of the premiere episode, the Dark Side Of the Ring X account shared a new sneak peek of what fans should expect. The first look of the series recalls an infamous moment from WCW Monday Night Nitro when the NWO attacked talent backstage. In the clip, fans get a glimpse of the former WCW talent and producers who will be involved, including Kevin Nash, Konnan, and Eric Bischoff.

Here is a look at the preview.

More On Who Killed WCW Preview

Dark Side Of The Ring noted on X that Nash is one of the producers of Who Killed WCW. He has spoken positively about the new docuseries, and it’s known that he would be featured. However, it’s the first time he’s been publicly credited as a Producer.

The clip may be fascinating to fans as the cast touches on how the infamous July 29, 1996, episode that featured NWO assaulting talent backstage came together. One of the highlights from the sneak peek was Nash breaking down the spot where he launched Rey Mysterio like a lawn dart against a trailer.

Nash reveals that Mysterio wanted the charismatic giant to throw him into the window. However, ‘Big Sexy’ nixed the idea, as he was worried that launching him into the window could’ve been fatal. It’s unclear if Mysterio is involved in the show to share his side of the story. That said, it is information that longtime wrestling fans may not have heard.

If the upcoming docuseries can share new information and perspectives not heard before, Who Killed WCW could be very exciting.

Rey Mysterio Wishes Eddie Guerrero Was Here To Witness The Evolution Of Dominik

The influence of Eddie Guerrero can clearly be seen in the evolution of Dominik Mysterio and Rey Mysterio wishes that his best friend was here to witness the progress of his son.

The Master of 619 recently had an interview with Peter Rosenberg to promote the upcoming A&E Biography: Legends episode focused on Eddie that will premiere this Sunday, May 26.

During the interview, Rey reflected on the infamous feud between him and Eddie with Dominik being in the center. Mysterio said that he wishes Eddie was still here to share the ring with Dirty Dom:

“It was such a cool moment. Such a cool phase of our lives, I should say, because not only mine, I know even though Dom was young, to be able to be in that position, and at his age, absorb everything that happened. Not only that night, but the months prior to that, him being part of the story, major part of the story and the connection that he had with Eddie as well.

The one thing I wish it would have happened and this would have changed the dynamic incredibly. If Eddie would still be here and just to see Dom and Eddie in the ring that would have been…that’s one of those dreams, that it’s never gonna happen, but I wish…that would have been a big opportunity for me to just witness.”

It Would Have Been Such An Incredible Time: Rey Mysterio

They also discussed how different Rey Mysterio’s current feud with the Judgement Day star would have been if Guerrero was still around. The WWE Hall of Famer revealed that he still thinks about how different moments would play out if Eddie was still here:

“I’ve had moments where I just overthink scenarios if Eddie would still be here. My mind just goes crazy. Just thinking about all the things we could have done, Eddie and Dom with me involved. It just, it would have been such an incredible time. It’s unfortunate that we will never experience that. But maybe in the heavens, when we’re all up there. We can do a special match for God.”

Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio had been friends since the early 90s and shared the ring with each other many times in different stages of their careers in different promotions. Their most memorable encounter came at the 2005 SummerSlam event in August when Guerro faced Mysterio in a ladder match with the custody of a young Dominik being on the line.

Guerrero unfortunately passed away only a few months after this match in November 2005 at the age of 38. While Eddie may not be with us anymore, his legacy lives on and there are many current wrestlers who credit the late star for inspiring them to get into the business.

Rey Mysterio Recalls The Pain Behind Big Show’s Wild Stretcher Swing

Physics was not Rey Mysterio’s friend in 2003 and nor was Big Show’s brute strength.

The 2023 WWE Hall of Famer has taken his fair share of nasty bumps in his day, but nothing prepared him for being swung like a baseball bat at a ring post.

20 years before getting that well-earned Hall of Fame nod, Mysterio squared off against The Big Show at WWE Backlash 2023. Mysterio took the loss when Paul Wight caught him with a chokeslam, but the brutality was far from done as Rey was strapped to a stretcher. That’s when Wight grabbed hold of Rey and whipped the board and his opponent hard into the ring post.

Speaking with CBS Sports, Mysterio detailed that moment, something that he thought he and Wight totally accounted the safety for. They were both wrong. Between Rey and the stretcher, the weight of both became an issue, even for Wight.

“I remember we had gone over it and that was the plan. When I was strapped onto the stretcher, everything seemed cool. I said ‘How much can it hurt? The stretcher is hitting first and I’m attached to it, so I won’t feel it.’ Well, we never thought about what happens when you hit.

“There was no way Big Show could hit the pole and hold onto me. So that whole weight and the momentum, as soon as we hit, I went straight down. As I was strapped onto the stretcher, my head went ‘boop’ and I hit first. That hurt. That in itself hurt very much.”

Mysterio is no stranger from big men throwing him around. Arguably the most notorious spot occured back in his WCW days when Kevin Nash lawn darted Rey right into the side of a semi-truck as the NWO began their infamous invasion.

Rey Mysterio Will Retire When His Best Is Not Enough

Rey Mysterio doesn’t have an exact date for when he’ll hang up his boots and mask but knows the exact circumstances when it’ll be time to walk away from the ring.

At 49 years old, Mysterio is one of the oldest Superstars on WWE’s active roster and is well aware that his career is in the final legs of its journey. Speaking on Rampage Jackson’s JAXXON podcast, Mysterio didn’t give a specific date but believes he’ll retire if he ever stops worrying about giving his absolute best.

“Every night [I worry about my performance] Even when it’s non-televised, I still get that jittering feeling like, ‘S***; I don’t want to f*** up. I want to make sure everything comes out right.’ I always tell myself, the day I no longer feel that, that’s the time to tap out.”

Rey Mysterio On Retirement

As a WWE Hall of Famer and arguably the most successful masked wrestler in WWE history, Mysterio has very little to prove in his remaining years in the ring. In March 2023, the Ultimate Underdog said he does not plan on wrestling past the age of 50. Rey will hit the milestone number this December

Though Rey’s career in the ring will be ending in the relatively near future, his time in WWE won’t be over after he hangs up his boots. Rey signed a five-year deal with WWE in 2023 that should keep him around until he is 54 years old. It is possible that Mysterio could wrestle past 50 and if not, WWE would no-doubt benefit from keeping Mysterio around in some kind of backstage role, possibly as a trainer in WWE NXT.

Rey Mysterio began his professional wrestling career in Mexico at a very young age. His debut match took place in 1989 when he was just 14.

Rey Mysterio Believes Separating From Him Was The Best Thing That Could Have Happened To Dominik

Having a famous father is a double-edged sword for a performer trying to make his name in the same profession. On one hand, it can get you early opportunities but also create an unfavorable perception of you in people’s minds from the start. This is why Rey Mysterio believes that separating from him was the best thing for Dominik.

The wrestling veteran recently appeared on the JAXXON PODCAST where he discussed things such as the importance of his mask, his WCW career and more.

Rey also spoke about the struggles his son Dominik Mysterio had to face early in his career because of the comparison to his Hall of Famer father:

“The career that I’ve had, the longevity. [I] started at the age of 14. I’m 49 now. So I’ve been grinding for the past 35 years in this business, this profession.

For my son to come in out of nowhere and not have my style, have a different build. he’s 6’1. He’s about 190. So it was just, it was very hard for him at the beginning to try to adapt and find his role as a wrestler.

The comparisons were, they were made and of course, he couldn’t live up to ’em. Not until we separated and he continued on his own path without having his dad by his side. And that was the best thing that could have ever happened to him.”

Dominik Mysterio started making regular appearances on WWE programming alongside his dad back in 2019. His first official match for the company came at SummerSlam 2020 and the father-son duo even went on to win the SmackDown tag team titles in 2021.

Though the evolution of the young star really started when he turned on Rey Mysterio at the 2022 Clash At The Castle event. He subsequently joined the Judgement Day faction. This move made him one of the most hated wrestlers in all of sports entertainment and helped him develop an identity completely opposite to his legendary father.
