Rey Mysterio Announced as First Inductee Into 2023 WWE Hall of Fame

Rey Mysterio has been officially announced as the first inductee into this year’s WWE Hall of Fame.

The SmackDown star was confirmed to be part of the class during Friday’s episode of SmackDown with a video package. Rey came out to the ring for a promo, but before he could make a statement, Dominik Mysterio came out with Judgment Day where he questioned WWE inducting a washed-up man into the Hall of Fame.

He reminded Rey of all the things he missed while Dom was growing up. Dominik said he was ashamed to be his son. Legado Del Fansasmo then came out for a six-man tag team match.

Career

Rey began his professional wrestling career in 1989 at age 14. Throughout that successful career, he has worked for promotions such as CMLL, NJPW AAA, WCW, ECW, and WWE.

While in WCW, he won the WCW Cruiserweight Championship five times and the WCW World Tag Team Championship three times. In WWE, he’s won the Cruiserweight Championship three times,  World Heavyweight Championship, the Intercontinental Championship, and the United States Championship twice for each title, the WWE Championship once, and the Tag Team Championship four times.

The WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will take place after SmackDown goes off the air from the Crypto.com Arena on March 31.

Many expected to see Batista, real name Dave Bautista, be confirmed as the first inductee. Pwinsider.com reported earlier in the day that Great Muta (Keiji Muto) would be among the names inducted this year.

Finn Balor Comments on Dominik Mysterio’s Transformation

WWE superstar Finn Balor shared some encouraging words for Dominik Mysterio’s development in the company.

Mysterio has risen as one of the biggest heels in the WWE. He made the change at Clash at the Castle on Sep. 3, 2022, when he betrayed his father, Rey, and Edge. Two days later, he would align himself with The Judgement Day(Balor, Rhea Ripley, and Damien Priest) to become a faction member. After several months of working with The Judgement Day, Dominik has started to get out of the shadow of his father.

In an interview with The Bump’s Kayla Braxton and Matt Camp, Balor spoke highly about Dominik’s transformation as a heel talent. While expressing his thoughts, Balor stayed in character during the interview.

“You know, it kind of makes me sad a little bit that Dominik hasn’t received the support from his family. The fact that he’s growing and achieving so much in a short time, but without that backbone or family support, it’s quite incredible, said Balor.

He continued, “…At the same time, you know my family has always supported me, so I take that kind of for granted that people should be supported by their family and the fact that Rey has continuously not shown support, not shown interest in his sons development and career, it’s quite saddening. So myself, Damian(Priest) and Rhea(Ripley) all been a shoulder for Dom to lean on and I think he’s stepped out of his father shadow in such a short time and I think he’s going to make his father pay.”

Will Dominik Challenge His Father At WrestleMania 39?

It seems the WWE is looking to have Dominik face his father at WrestleMania 39, but it’s unclear in what way. Dominik and The Judgement Day have antagonized his father since he joined them. On the Feb. 24 episode of Friday Night Smackdown, Rey came close to attacking his son but chose to walk away. It’s possible WWE could be setting up a father vs. son match at WrestleMania 39. However, the company has also teased that Santos Escobar may assist Rey in dealing with his son.

During a backstage segment on the Feb. 24 episode, Escobar and Dominik had a brief confrontation about respecting Rey. Before Escobar could do anything to Dominik, Rhea stepped in the way, and the “couple” walked away. It’s possible the WWE can have a tag team match with Escobar and Rey against Dominik and Priest, as Priest is not involved in a match for WrestleMania 39.

Wrestling fans will have to wait and see how the ongoing story of Rey and Dominik will develop on the road to WrestleMania.

Watch: Dominik Mysterio Crashes Rey Mysterio’s Valentine’s Day Celebration

Dominik Mysterio has again ruined a celebration for The Mysterio Family, or has he?

The young WWE star ruined Thanksgiving and Christmas Day for his father and he tried to do the same on Valentine’s Day as well.

WWE recently posted a video of Prison Dom going to a nice restaurant with Rhea Ripley to celebrate Valentine’s Day. He asked for his reserved table only to learn that his father Rey Mysterio had already taken up the seat.

This time, however, Rey chose not to make a fuss in public. The wrestling veteran decided to let his son have the table and left quietly with his wife.

Prison Dom Makes A Run

Dominik then got to enjoy a nice dinner with his Mami, only for him to learn later that he can no longer use the Mysterio account to pay for it all.

The WWE star then tried to pay with a credit card. When that got declined as well, Dom did the most prison thing and made a run for it:

Rhea Ripley Is Not Happy

Rhea Ripley was not happy with people focusing on the fact that she had to foot the bill. She tweeted in support of Dominik, saying that she understands his trauma:

The Judgement Day are currently involved in a long-standing feud with Edge and Beth Phoenix. This rivalry was reignited when the Rated R Superstar and The Glamazon made their return at Royal Rumble.

It’s believed that we will see Finn Balor and Rhea Ripley teaming up against the husband-wife duo at WrestleMania. As for Dominik, it’s possible that he finally has to face his father Rey Mysterio in a match at the show.

Reason Why Rey Mysterio Missed WWE’s Royal Rumble

Rey Mysterio did not appear in the men’s Royal Rumble match, despite WWE having creative plans for him in the match.

Mysterio was scheduled to enter the Royal Rumble at #17. His music hit, but the lucha libre legend was nowhere to be found. The following entrant was his son, Dominik, who came out wearing his father’s signature mask. He removed the mask and tore it up as he made his way to the ring to officially enter the match.

What unfolded on television was not what WWE had planned for the Mysterios at the Rumble, but the company was forced to call a last-minute audible due to Rey sustaining an injury the previous night.

Rey Mysterio Update After the Royal Rumble

Rey Mysterio was injured during his match against Karrion Kross on Friday’s SmackDown, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. Mysterio defeated Kross on SmackDown, which was taped from the Sames Auto Arena in Laredo, Texas.

“[Rey Mysterio] was going to be in the Rumble, that spot was changed,” said Meltzer. “I think they were actually supposed to do some teases with him to set up a WrestleMania match [against Dominik].”

Rey Mysterio won the 2006 WWE Royal Rumble, so he would have been a formidable contender, even at this late stage in his career.

With Rey unable to compete, WWE’s creative team instead came up with what we saw on television, and the idea that the Judgment Day attacked Rey Mysterio and prevented him from participating.

We’ll be looking into the nature of Rey Mysterio’s latest injury and will provide an update when we get more information. The extent of his condition may dictate whether or not he’s healthy enough to face his son Dominik at WrestleMania Goes Hollywood.

Gunther Sets Record for Longest Time in WWE’s Royal Rumble Match

The Intercontinental Champion, Gunther, has set a new record in the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match.

Gunther entered as number one, going up against Sheamus at the start of the Royal Rumble match. He outlasted 28 other opponents in the Royal Rumble before getting eliminated by a returning Cody Rhodes. While he didn’t win, he had a great showing and broke a new record.

The intercontinental champ has set the record for the most time spent in a Royal Rumble match. He lasted one hour, eleven minutes, and 25 seconds. The previous record holder was Rey Mysterio from the 2006 Royal Rumble match, with one hour, two minutes, and 12 seconds.

What’s Next For Gunther?

Although Gunther lost the Royal Rumble match, he had exciting encounters with several wrestlers. He had a standoff with Brock Lesnar, an opponent he has not faced. However, it seems WWE may have teased another match between Lesnar and Bobby Lashley.

In the match, Gunther eliminated both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre at the same time. Sheamus and Gunther have unfinished business, but McIntyre has yet to go against Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship. McIntyre seems to be taking a step back from the universal title picture, so WWE could have him work with Gunther.

Regardless, WWE seems to be investing in Gunther to make him a threat to the company. While he didn’t win, it’s possible the company could have big plans for the Intercontinental Champion this year.

Rey Mysterio Featured in Trailer for Netflix’s “Against The Ropes”

The trailer for the Netflix series ‘Against The Ropes’, which will premiere on January 25, was released today, and WWE shared it.

The tweet from WWE previewed the series by writing, “An ex-convict tries to regain her daughter’s affection after leaving prison, but it seems impossible — until she steps into the ring.”

The Trailer

Rey Mysterio is featured in the trailer as it shows an ex-convict’s journey in her attempt to train to become a wrestler. According to Netflix’s website, the synopsis is as follows:

“Released from prison, Ángela tries to regain the respect of her daughter, who loves lucha libre wrestling, by entering the ring as a mysterious persona.”

The cast includes Caraly Sánchez, Scarlet Gruber, Carmen Ramos, and Alisson Santiago, Giovanna Zacarías, among others. Check it out below:

Mysterio has some acting experience as he voiced himself on ‘Booyaka! Rey Mysterio vs. The Darkness,’ which aired on Cartoon Network Latin America.

The former WWE Champion has been feuding with Karrion Kross as of late on Friday Night SmackDown. He was sent over from Raw to SmackDown last year after feuding with The Judgment Day and his son, Domnik, turning on him.

WWE Superstar Pulled from SmackDown World Cup Due to Injury

The SmackDown World Cup began this past Friday on WWE SmackDown. Santos Escobar of Legado del Fantasma defeated Shinsuke Nakamura in the first round. Braun Strowman picked up a victory over former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal to advance to the semifinals. The superstar that wins the SmackDown World Cup will earn an Intercontinental Championship match against Gunther.

Rey Mysterio was scheduled to be a part of the tournament to potentially earn a rematch against The Ring General. Mysterio was traded to WWE SmackDown after he tried to quit the company to avoid dealing with his son, Dominik Mysterio, and the Judgment Day on RAW.

Triple H orchestrated a trade that sent Baron Corbin to the red brand in exchange for Rey. On his first night on the blue brand, Rey replaced Karrion Kross in a Fatal 4-Way after he was attacked by Drew McIntyre in the parking lot. Mysterio won the match to become the #1 contender for the IC Title. Gunther defeated the 47-year-old on the November 4th edition of SmackDown to retain the title.

Rey Mysterio Replaced Due to Injury

According to a report by Ringside News, Rey Mysterio was seen backstage with a walking boot and is currently dealing with a “short-term” injury. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer backed up the report and said Rey is dealing with an ankle or foot injury.

Mustafa Ali has replaced Rey Mysterio in the SmackDown World Cup tournament and will battle Ricochet on the November 18th episode of SmackDown. Despite being in the tournament on SmackDown, Mustafa is still currently a member of the RAW roster.

WWE’s Rey Mysterio Walks Through the Forbidden Door at AAA TripleMania XXX

Rey Mysterio may be a fully-fledged WWE Superstar, but the masked veteran has made an appearance at AAA TripleMania XXX.

The three-night event took place over this year, with the first night being April 30, and the second event taking place on June 18.

Across all three events and including dark matches, a total 25 bouts took place for this year’s TripleMania event.

Mysterio Appears

Night three of AAA TripleMania kicked off not with an AAA talent, but by WWE SmackDown’s very own Rey Mysterio.

In a video vignette, Mysterio welcomed fans to the show, and celebrated AAA’s milestone 30th TripleMania.

Calling TripleMania a “magnum event,” the three-time WWE World Champion congratulated everyone working on the show.

Mysterio reflected on his own time with AAA and is immensely proud to have worked the very first TripleMania event in 1993.

Rey Mysterio in AAA

Joining AAA in 1992, Mysterio spent much of his time in the promotion feuding with fellow cruiserweight Juventud Guerrera.

In March 2015, days after being released from WWE, Rey returned to AAA for the first time in nearly twenty years at the Rey de Reyes (King of Kings) event.

The match Rey competed in is infamous for the death of wrestler El Hijo del Perro Aguayo, who suffered a cardiac arrest during the match.

At that year’s TripleMania XXIII event, Mysterio defeated Myzteziz (WWE’s Sin Cara) in what was billed as a dream match.

In June 2018, Rey made another return to AAA, competing in a three-way match for the AAA Mega Championship against Jeff Jarrett and Rey Wegner, which Jarrett would win.

“Looks Like You’ll Need A Real Man” – Dominik Mocks Rey Mysterio After He Joins WWE SmackDown Roster

Rey Mysterio almost quit WWE last night on SmackDown but thankfully Triple H talked him out of it. The 47-year-old has been involved in a bitter rivalry with The Judgment Day on RAW. His son, Dominik Mysterio, betrayed him and joined the group recently.

At the beginning of last night’s edition of the blue brand, Drew McIntyre attacked Karrion Kross in the parking lot. Kross defeated McIntyre this past weekend at Extreme Rules due to interference by Scarlett.

Karrion was scheduled to be in a Fatal 4-Way to determine the number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship. Rey was announced as Karrion’s replacement in the match and struck a deal with Triple H to join the SmackDown roster.

Rey went on to defeat Ricochet, Sheamus, and Solo Sikoa in the match to earn a match against Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship. Mysterio revealed that coming to SmackDown represents a new beginning for him in an interview following the show.

Dominik Mysterio Mocks His Father

The Judgment Day had their fun poking fun at Rey last night for leaving the RAW roster. Rhea Ripley sent out a tweet shortly after Rey’s conversation with The Game and mocked the former WWE Champion.

Dominik Mysterio will be doing a meet & greet for Cricket Wireless on October 17th. His father was originally supposed to be the WWE Superstar at the event. Dominik took to Twitter to boast about running Rey off of RAW and said that they will need a “real man” at the event. He quote tweeted his father promoting the meet & greet the week prior.

Now that I’ve run my dad off of RAW, looks like you’ll need a real man to show up. I’ll see you there.

Rey Mysterio Explains Why He Tried To Quit WWE & How Triple H Convinced Him To Join The SmackDown Roster

Rey Mysterio approached Triple H tonight during WWE SmackDown and tried to quit the company. Thankfully, The Game had other plans and it wound up being a huge night for the 47-year-old.

Mysterio has been involved in a long rivalry with The Judgment Day faction on RAW. His son, Dominik Mysterio, has betrayed him and joined the group. During the conversation with Triple H, Rey stated that he will never fight his son and said that he wanted to quit the company. The Game talked Rey out of it and the two entered his office.

Rey later replaced Karrion Kross in the Fatal 4-Way to determine the #1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship. Michael Cole announced during the match that Rey and Triple H had struck a deal and Mysterio was now a part of the blue brand.

Kross was coming off a victory over Drew McIntyre at WWE Extreme Rules this past Saturday night. Scarlett interfered in the match and Drew got his revenge tonight. Drew crashed into Karrion’s car and attacked him to begin SmackDown. Kross was ruled out of the match due to the attack.

Solo Sikoa and Sheamus battled out of the ring and The Bloodline interfered while the referee was distracted. The Brawling Brutes (Butch & Ridge Holland) made the save and the two teams battled ringside as Rey and Ricochet were in the ring. Mysterio connected with the 619 and a Frog Splash for the pinfall victory. Mysterio is now next in line for a match against Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship.

Rey Mysterio Has A “New Beginning” On WWE SmackDown

After WWE SmackDown went off the air, Rey spoke with Kayla Braxton in a Digital Exclusive. Kayla asked if Rey’s conversation with Triple H had to do with his big night and Rey admitted that it did. Mysterio explained that he refuses to fight his son and it is nice to be on SmackDown and not have to look over his shoulder for The Judgment Day.

That had a lot to do with it. I came here with my mind set on literally just stepping away from the game.

And like you said, it hurts me to see my son (Dominik Mysterio) go through what he is going through right now. And I just will never fight him.

I just won’t. But this opened up my eyes in a different way. You know? This is like a new beginning for Rey Mysterio.

And the fact that I was given an opportunity, and I took advantage of it, man it makes me feel like I’m on another level right now. Now I have a shot for the Intercontinental Championship.

There’s a lot of history with Rey Mysterio and SmackDown, you know? From day one, 2002, when I kicked off my career with WWE.

But to be back now, and to be back alone. To not feel haunted, to not feel there’s a shadow pushing me and wanting to fight me constantly.

That feels good. You don’t know the amount of weight I just took off my back.

AJ Styles and Rey Mysterio to Team on This Week’s WWE RAW

The dream team of AJ Styles and Rey Mysterio will join forces during tomorrow’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw to battle the Judgment Day.

WWE confirmed the match on their website.

The group, consisting of Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley, Damian Priest, and Dominik Mysterio has been at odds with Mysterio since July.

During Summerslam, Rey and Dominik defeated Balor and Priest in a no-disqualifications tag team match, thanks to the returning Edge.

At Clash at the Castle, Dominik turned on his father and the WWE Hall Famer after the team got the win over Balor and Priest.

As for Styles, he has been feuding with the Judgment Day off and on for even longer, and the group has made efforts to recruit the two-time former WWE World Champion.

Monday Night Raw

AJ Styles and Rey Mysterio teaming up to face the Judgment Day will be just part of tomorrow’s go-home Monday Night Raw before Extreme Rules 2022.

The show will also see Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair and Bayley have a contract signing, making their Ladder match for the title at Extreme Rules official.

The match will be the first singles women’s ladder match in WWE history on the main roster.

Braun Strowman will have his second match since returning to WWE, when he takes on the Alpha Academy’s Chad Gable.

The Academy’s other member Otis will also be in action, as he takes on Johnny Gargano, while Candice LeRae will face WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Dakota Kai.

Triple H Names the Superstar he Regrets Never Feuding With

Triple H has feuded with a lot of top names in wrestling, but the Game regrets never having a prolonged feud with Rey Mysterio.

When Mysterio joined WWE in 2002, he was put on SmackDown, while Triple H was the top star on Raw.

While Triple H would eventually be drafted to SmackDown in 2008, Rey would be drafted to Raw that same year.

The following year, Triple H was drafted back to Raw and Mysterio was moved back to SmackDown.

The Missed Feud

Speaking to LadBible, the Game spoke about the possibility of working with Mysterio and how the opportunity never arose.

“I always wanted to work with Rey Mysterio. I think I’ve been in the ring with him twice [in] my entire career. There’s certain guys like that… We just never ended up in the same place in the same storylines.

“I always wanted to work with Rey Mysterio.”

Triple H.

“I’ve thrown it out there a lot over the years of like, ‘Hey, what if Rey and I did something,’ But he was always on SmackDown [while] I was on Raw or vice versa. It just never panned out but he’s always a guy that I always thought ‘Man, I would have loved to have gone and done something big with him.'”

Rey Mysterio Vs. Triple H

While Rey and Triple H never feuded, the two did share the ring on occasion

Triple H and Mysterio were the #1 and #2 entrants in the 2006 Royal Rumble, which was later won by Rey.

Rey and Triple H would be on the same team as part of Survivor Series 2007, aligning with Jeff Hardy and Kane.

Potential Spoilers on Plans for Edge/Rey Mysterio & The Judgment Day

At WWE Clash at the Castle, Dominik Mysterio turned heel on his father Rey and Edge, who had won their match with The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and Damian Priest.

For many, Dominik’s heel turn had been a long-time coming, having been teased all the way back in 2020 during Rey’s feud with Seth Rollins.

On last week’s Raw Dominik was welcomed as an official member of The Judgment Day.

Monday Night Raw

Tonight, Dominik will have his first official match since turning heel, when he faces Edge on Monday Night Raw.

According to a report from PW Insider, a match may not be all from Dominik, as an angle could be shown from Edge’s home (via Cageside Seats.)

“PW Insider notes Rey & Dominik Mysterio were both in Asheville, North Carolina this past weekend, leading to speculation they may have shot an angle, or filmed something, at Edge’s house because that’s where he lives.”

The Rated-R Home

Edge, who ironically invaded John Cena’s home in 2006, is having to get used to uninvited guests in his domain.

Last October, Seth Rollins invaded Edge’s home during their feud, with the Rated-R Superstar rushing from SmackDown.

Edge even referenced AEW tag-team FTR, using the real names of Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood on a phone call to his wife Beth Phoenix.

In a recent interview, Rollins said that the idea for the home invasion came from Edge, and that this too was filmed in Asheville, North Carolina.

Dominik Mysterio joins The Judgment Day – Will face Edge

Edge Warns WWE RAW Star Following Attack at Clash at the Castle

Edge teamed up with Rey Mysterio to battle The Judgment Day tonight at Clash at the Castle.

On this past Monday’s edition of WWE RAW, Rey explained to Dominik that he wanted to partner with Edge at the premium live event because of his experience. Dominik told his father that he understood but clearly, that was a lie.

Rhea Ripley attacked Dominik ringside during the match but Rey broke it up with a Crossbody. Dominik then helped his father by tripping up The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor. Rey hit the 619 and Edge followed it up with a Spear for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Rey’s celebration with the Rated-R Superstar would be short-lived. Dominik hit Edge with a low blow and then leveled his father with a Clothesline. The Judgment Day cackled outside the ring as Dominik left his father laying in the ring.

Edge Warns Dominik Ahead of WWE RAW

The 48-year-old took to Twitter following Clash at the Castle and sent out a warning to Dominik. He also thanked the fans in the UK and Rey Mysterio for allowing him to be a luchador for a minute. Edge was sporting a luchador’s mask during his entrance tonight.

Cardiff. The UK. Thank you. Tonight you gave me something that will live in my heart forever. I think you can see what it means to me. We’re in it together. And I got to pay respect to Rey and be a luchador for a minute. Ok, now that I got that off my chest. See ya Monday Dom.

Rey Mysterio Wants Finn Balor at WrestleMania

Rey Mysterio wants a match with Finn Balor at WrestleMania.

Mysterio was recently interviewed by Inside The Ropes where he discussed his professional wrestling career, including his current run on Monday Night RAW.

Currently, he and his son, Dominik, are locked in a feud with The Judgement Day – Rhea Ripley, Finn Balor, and Damian Priest.

With that being said, Mysterio has had the opportunity to work quite a bit with Finn Balor. When asked who his desired opponent for WrestleMania would be, Mysterio named the Irish star.

“The one guy I had in mind, and it’s actually happening right now as we speak is Finn Balor. The opportunity of working against Finn, and these last couple of weeks that we have been on Raw, I really feel like we have great chemistry together.

“It was bound to happen just because I know how dedicated he is, and how committed he is, so I think the program I have been doing with Finn has been incredible.”

Rey Mysterio

At the moment, Mysterio and Dominik have been feuding with The Judgment Day for the past few weeks. They’ve seemingly aligned themselves with ex-Judgement Day leader Edge, who was kicked out of the faction several weeks ago.

Judgement Day has been attempting to lure Dominik into their faction for some time. If they ultimately succeed, perhaps a father vs. son angle could be on the horizon. It’s something The Mysterios have admittedly talked about amongst themselves.

However, they’d only want to do it if it felt right at the moment. Given where their current storyline seems to be heading, the perfect moment might be right around the corner.

Damian Priest on Rey Mysterio’s Influence: “I’m Still Learning a Lot From Him.”

When WWE talent transitions from developmental (NXT) to the main roster, there’s always the issue of how much of their act will be changed. There is the old adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” When talking about the creative side of pro wrestling, this adage isn’t always followed.

Damien Priest is one of the lucky performers who did not skip a beat after leaving NXT. His success in WWE comes down to timing, but also making the most of an opportunity. The Bad Bunny mainstream rub certainly helped. At the same time, the two’s alliance felt far deeper than your typical celebrity involvement. Priest was entrusted with helping one of the biggest music stars in the world succeed in the ring. The imposing Raw superstar opened eyes and turned heads, showing what he could do when given the ball.

The former United States champion continues to prove himself as a pillar of Judgment Day. Among his biggest tests comes in a marquee match on Raw against rival Edge from his hometown of Toronto.

Over SummerSlam weekend I had the chance to sit down with Priest to reflect on some of his biggest recent moments, the impact Bad Bunny made, and Judgment Day’s future.

Rey Mysterio’s Influence

You were part of Rey Mysterio’s big 20th anniversary in WWE live from Madison Square Garden. What did that night mean to you as a fan and New Yorker?

Damian Priest: “Obviously, we’re feuding, but realistically, when I go out, the main thing I get told is ‘Thank you’ for representing. There isn’t any of that without Rey Mysterio. He was someone who was looked at as somebody who shouldn’t have achieved the success he has. Forget his size. Just being Latino. That meant a lot. I remember growing up watching him, so it was meaningful. Now I’m in that role of also someone representing our culture.

I’m still learning a lot from him. The way he treats people and tries to enhance representation. It was a big deal. Then it’s The Garden, so many things. Talk about the perfect place and time. It became, ‘Man, I just worked Rey Mysterio in Madison Square Garden on the night he was celebrating his 20th anniversary with WWE.’ That was just wild to me.”

Judgment Day

The Judgment Day
(via WWE)

It seemed things were really picking up with Edge leading Judgment Day. How did you react to this change of guard?

Damian Priest: “Our idea is still the same. With Rhea Ripley healthy, we’re excited. We’re all giddy in the back talking about the chaos we’re going to cause. Even without the cameras on, we’re dangerous. The three of us are dangerous together. We’ve been looking forward to this. That’s the idea. We were all fine on our own and as singles competitors, but this gives us a different look. A different vibe, and opportunity. Growing up I’ve always wanted to be in a faction. I was a big faction guy. The nWo, DX, Four Horsemen, Evolution. So many groups I was a fan of.

To be a part of one and the idea there is no leader. We support each other. Whoever a particular moment is about, we’re going to support that person in the front. It’s all the same. It’s a revolving door of leadership. As long as we maintain that mentality, I think now the fans are really going to see something special. We haven’t really been able to do it yet, but we’re just getting started. The future is going to be really cool for us and for the fans.

Working with Bad Bunny

pjimage 2021 02 15T200616.600.jpg.optimal

Your profile really grew alongside Bad Bunny. You can see he really put in the work. Do you think he helped change the overall perception when celebrities decide they want to wrestle? That it’s more than a publicity stunt.

Damian Priest: “We’ve had celebrities before, but I think he is an example of what someone from a different world can do in our world. You don’t have to come in, promote something and leave. You can earn the respect of the fans and the talent. You can create something special for yourself, your fanbase, and us working together.

I haven’t been here the longest, so I can’t speak on celebrities who have been here before, but what he did was unprecedented in the way he treated us and this business. The respect he showed everyone. When you have guys like Randy Orton going up to him saying, “Hey, thanks for showing us respect. Thanks for doing this. You are one of the boys.” I was there and felt emotion for Bad Bunny.

That’s amazing when you have someone of that caliber saying that to you. That’s awesome. Now you got guys like Logan Paul signing a contract. These guys are not coming in for just a one-off or for a joke or laugh. They are taking this seriously. Bad Bunny may have changed the narrative about how celebrities should treat us and how the company should accept celebrities coming in. Not just opening the doors to anybody. Earn it. He may have changed a little bit of that culture.”

Rey Mysterio Reveals His Current WWE Schedule

One of the things that have changed in WWE in the modern era is the schedules. While the company still produces as many live event, they now allow certain veteran talents to have a lighter schedule. One star who has benefitted from this change is Rey Mysterio.

The Master of 619 recently spoke to TJ sport USA. He was asked about his current WWE schedule. Rey revealed that it’s much less hectic. Per Mysterio, he works all TV tapings but gets every other week off from House Shows:

“It is much less hectic than it was before. Obviously due to age and being that I am hurt from previous years. It’s do all TVs, one weekend on, one weekend off.” said Rey Mysterio, “If they need me for anything special, I’m right there.

I’m a trooper. I love this still and I love enjoying the time with my son. Being at live events, teaching him the ropes and what to do, what not to do and credit him for the good. [In the old days] it was non stop every week. I don’t have that schedule anymore. I’m limited to a certain amount of dates per year.”

Apart from this, Rey Mysterio also discussed Vince McMahon’s retirement from wrestling. You can check out his full interview below:

Rey Mysterio is Waiting to Feud with Dominik Mysterio

In mid-2020, Dominik Mysterio made his in-ring debut, competing against Seth Rollins at that year’s Summerslam.

After impressing fans with his ability, Dominik has worked alongside his father Rey Mysterio, capturing the SmackDown Tag Team Championships last year.

Waiting for the Feud

Rey and Dominik Mysterio have teamed together for years, but WWE has teased splitting the pair multiple times.

In 2020, WWE teased that Dominik would betray his father and join Seth Rollins’ stable but that didn’t take place.

More recently, it was teased that Dominik would join The Judgment Day, but that hasn’t happened yet at this time.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Rey addressed the possibility of feuding with his son and isn’t against the idea (Via 411 Mania.)

“We actually talked about that during his first couple of weeks of training. I remember sitting down with him, and telling him … ‘Could you imagine if you started working and then we teamed up and eventually, you know, whether I turned on you or you turned on me?’”

“I need to feel it at the moment, during that time.”

Rey Mysterio on waiting for the right time to feud with his son Dominik Mysterio.

“Yeah that would be cool… storyline-wise, it might be attractive, but I need to feel it at the moment, during that time. Right now, I feel like we just, we have a really tight bond, but it would be something special.”

Rey and Dominik will face The Judgment Day in a No-Disqualification Match at the WWE Summerslam 2022 Premium Live Event tomorrow night.

When Does Rey Mysterio Plan to Retire?

This week, Rey Mysterio celebrated his 20th anniversary in WWE and has been one of the promotion’s most consistently popular Superstars.

Debuting in July 2002 after making a name for himself in WCW and ECW, Rey is a three-time WWE World Champion, having won gold in 2006, 2010 and 2011.

Rey is also a Grand Slam winner, having held the United States, Intercontinental and Tag Team Titles in addition to World Championship gold.

Rey’s Retirement Plans

Speaking recently to Ariel Helwani of BT Sport, Rey discussed his career, and that it will soon be coming to an end.

Rey admitted that he knows he cannot wrestle forever, and has a plan to call it a career.

“For me, now that I’m getting closer to my fifties and I see my son wrestling, I tell myself that I wanna go three more years and I don’t wanna go past fifty. But then I remind myself, what if I feel good. Can you still go another year? As of right now, my date has always been to not go over fifty.”

Rey Mysterio Reveals What Vince McMahon Wanted Before His WWE Debut

Rey Mysterio’s iconic mask has become synonymous with his character. It’s almost impossible to imagine him wrestling without it at this point but there was a time when Mysterio had dropped it from his gear. Rey had to drop his mask after losing a match to nWo in WCW back in 1999. He credits Vince McMahon for bringing it back.

The wrestling veteran had an interview with Ariel Helwani to celebrate 20 years of his WWE debut. Speaking about his arrival in WWE, Mysterio recalled how he had been wrestling without his mask for some time. The former world champion then told the story of how he got his mask back:

“So funny story, I leave WCW. Then I get signed by WWE, and at the time, I’m wrestling without a mask. I had done a couple dates in Mexico and I was comfortable wrestling without it.” recalled Rey Mysterio, “I go into OVW in Kentucky. I started training before I went into WWE, before my first match. During that week of training, a week before I debuted, they were like, ‘Rey, Vince wants to see what outfit you’re gonna wear.’

So I showed them a getup of what I was wearing at the time. They were like, ‘but where’s the mask?’ I said, ‘I’m not wearing a mask right now.’ ‘Oh no, Vince wants you to bring the mask back.’ I was like, ‘Oh, you guys should have told me.'”

How many masks does Rey Mysterio have?

Over the years, Rey Mysterio has used many different masks and ring gears. When asked how many masks he has in his collection, Mysterio claimed that he has lost count:

“Man, I’ve lost count. But if we put my wife’s purses and shoes next to mine, I think we’re right about the same. I would have to say, yes over 1000.”

Rey Mysterio Celebrates 20 Years Since WWE Debut

Rey Mysterio is celebrating 20 years since making his WWE debut.

Rey Mysterio 20th Anniversary Career Highlights

July 25, 2022 marks 20 years since Mysterio made his debut with WWE on an episode of SmackDown. This was after already having spent several years with WCW before they eventually went out of business.

Mysterio made quite the name for himself in WCW as a key player in their famed Cruiserweight division. He won the division’s championship five times, including a Cruiserweight Tag Team Title win alongside Billy Kidman.

He faced off against Chavo Guerrero in his first WWE match after being advertised for several weeks prior with vignettes. Mysteiro won his debut match, soon after entering into a feud with Kurt Angle. Since, Mysterio has gone on to become one of the most legendary names WWE has ever seen.

Over the course of his career, Mysteiro has racked up three World Titles, three WWE Cruiserweight Title runs, two Intercontinental Titles, and five Tag Team Title wins. He’s also a two-time United States Title winner and a former Royal Rumble winner.

Rey Mysterio In WWE Today

Today, Rey Mysterio teams with his son, Dominik Mysteiro, over on Monday Night RAW. The pair are already a well established tag team, having won the SmackDown Live Tag Team Titles together.

The Mysterios are due to be in action tonight on Monday Night RAW. They’ll team up against The Judgement Day’s Finn Balor and Damien Priest in tag team action.

Rey Mysterio Missed Raw Due to Undisclosed Medical Issue

Rey Mysterio was conspicuously absent from Monday’s WWE Raw.

The Master of the 619 was advertised for the show, but was nowhere to be found. Dave Meltzer addressed Mysterio’s whereabouts on Wrestling Observer Radio. According to Meltzer, Mysterio missed Raw due to undisclosed medical issue.

Mysterio was scheduled to face Veer Mahan at Raw. The match was set up after Veer attacked both Reyand his son Dominik during the post-Mania edition of Raw.

When it became apparent that Mysterio would not be wrestling Veer on Raw, Dominik came out in his place. Veer came and defeated Dominik with relative ease.

After the match, Veer attacked the third generation star, who was stretchered out of the arena.

SEScoops will provide an update when we obtain more information about Rey Mysterio’s condition.

Based on the angle WWE had set up for Raw, it looks like we were headed to a showdown between Mysterio and Veer at Wrestlemania Backlash.

Whether or not this happens will depend on when Mysterio’s return timeframe.

AJ Styles Wants to Face Rey Mysterio At WrestleMania

If there’s anyone on the WWE roster who knows a thing or two about getting their desired WrestleMania opponent when it’s all said and done, it’s AJ Styles. Styles named both The Undertaker and Edge as opponents he’d like to face at “The Show Of Shows,” before ultimately landing each of those respective matches.

Of course, Styles ended up losing both of those matches, most recently to “The Rated-R Superstar” at WrestleMania 38 this past weekend, thanks to a distraction from Damian Priest. However, speaking to WrestleZone recently, Styles was asked who else is on his list of desired WrestleMania opponents. “The Phenomenal One” seems to be more interested in facing opponents who have been around in WWE longer than him. However, that list is growing shorter by the day.

With that being said, Styles named former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio as a potential opponent at WrestleMania down the line.

“It’s hard to say. I mean, who are those guys that when you think back, is it Rey Mysterio? I’ve never really had a long program or anything with him,” Styles said. “I’ve wrestled him once or twice but I never had a story with him.

“But, I don’t know, Edge [is this year]… I’ve tried to get Triple H in the ring but it looks like that’s not gonna happen. We’re running out of these guys who’ve been around longer than me.”

As AJ Styles mentioned, he and Mysterio have shared the ring numerous times before, but it wasn’t in a long storyline. Their last meeting was an Elimination Chamber qualifying match on Monday Night RAW back in January.

As for Mysterio, he’s currently wrapping up a storyline alongside his son, Dominik, where the pair fell to the team of The Miz and Logan Paul at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas this past weekend. Now the pair seem to be angling towards a feud with Veer on Monday Night RAW.

Rey Mysterio On What He Learned From Eddie Guerrero

The relationship between Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero is pretty well documented. The two became friends before Mysterio had even started wrestling and became close like brothers in the years afterward.

The Master Of 619 not only got to wrestle with the late star but he also learned a very important lesson from the legendary Hall Of Famer.

Mysterio discussed his relationship with Eddie in an interview with Complex. He revealed that Guerrero taught him how to pace himself in a match:

“He taught me how to pace myself. How to give the fans what they want at a certain time, and not just throw away my entire arsenal–just waste all my bullets in one match.

‘Wait, let them digest a little bit and have them wanting more the next time they see you.'” recalled Rey Mysterio, “All those little details are very important in our industry.”

The former world champion also recalled his first meeting with Eddie Guerrero. He mentioned how he was just 13 years old back then.

Eddie was teaming up with Rey Misterio Sr. and at the time, the current WWE star didn’t know that he himself would one day step in the ring with Guerrero.

How Rey Mysterio Found Out About Being The Cover Star Of WWE 2K22

Rey Mysterio is a well-deserving cover star of WWE 2K22. Though he didn’t realize that the game was going to be based around him when people first approached him.

The former world champion recently spoke to Complex. He discussed a wide variety of topics such as his son following in his footsteps and more.

When asked how he found out about being on the cover of the upcoming game, Mysterio revealed that he didn’t understand it right off the bat:

“So WWE first approached me in regards to doing some promotional work for the game. And I guess I didn’t understand it right off the bat? But I swear they didn’t tell me that I was going to be on the cover of the game, or that it was going to be based around me.

But slowly, as I was shooting and doing promotions, the bomb just hit,” said Rey Mysterio, “and they were like, “You know, this is based on you. You are the cover of the game this year.” I was like, “Oh no way. Damn, that’s cool. That’s dope.”

The showcase mode of WWE 2K22 will be based around the career of the high-flying star. It will allow players to relive some of the biggest moments of his career.

Reports suggest that 2K22 could also be the final game 2K produces for the company. A different developer may take over the game development if it doesn’t perform well.
