Rey Mysterio Vs Andrade

Over the last 3 weeks, Rey Mysterio has been involved in a program with Andrade on Smackdown. Last week, Mysterio and Andrade wrestled a best 2-of-3 falls match which ended in a no-contest after interference from Samoa Joe. The previous week, Andrade defeated Mysterio in single’s action. 3 weeks ago, Andrade and Samoa Joe teamed up to defeat Mysterio and Mustafa Ali. Back in November, Mysterio defeated Andrade to qualify for the Smackdown Survivor Series team.

WWE’s use of Andrade has become a topic of conversation lately as well. There are reports the former La Sombra is in line for a push.

WWE’s Possible Plans For Andrade

If you’ve been watching SmackDown Live for the past few weeks, it would have been virtually impossible to miss the astounding series of matches between Andrade and Rey Mysterio. The two have faced off a number of times now on SmackDown, and every matchup has left people talking about the quality of their encounters.

Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com recently commented on what WWE could have planned for Andrade in the near future. He claims that “While not a sure thing, the direction looks to be that Mysterio and Andrade end their program as a babyface tag team, with Andrade getting the rub from Mysterio as part of strengthening of the tag team division.”

It has been speculated that Sin Cara may also join Andrade and Rey Mysterio. The three would form a new Latino stable. Sin Cara has been training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, ahead of his expected return from injury.

Meltzer also noted that WWE is interested in positioning Andrade as a top Hispanic babyface for the company. With Mysterio having returned, the plan appears to be to use his star power to leverage Andrade into that position. This is despite recent reports over Andrade allegedly warning other Hispanic talent about WWE.

There is no word at this point in time on where Zelina Vega may fit into this group. The addition of Zelina Vega as Andrade’s manager helped to elevate him during his time in NXT to championship status.

What do you think of this rumored stable? Do you think they will be a force to contend with? Is Andrade the next big babyface for WWE?

Returning Superstar Rumored to Feud With Rey Mysterio

There are reportedly plans being made for Sin Cara once he returns from injury. The Luchador Superstar has been out of action since August with a knee injury. Apparently Sin Cara has returned to the WWE Performance Center this week and has begun training for an in ring return.

The plan according to PWInsider is for Cara to feud with Rey Mysterio at some point in the near future. This will of course take place on the Smackdown Live brand.

There were rumors many years ago of a planned Mysterio vs Sin Cara match to take place at a WrestleMania. This was with the original Sin Cara who worked as Mistico in Mexico as the top star for many years. The original Sin Cara now works as Carístico for CMLL and New Japan Pro Wrestling during their Fantastica Mania tours. The original reported plan was that WWE was attempting to break a record. The company would hand out masks for the crowd to wear and to make it the biggest crowd in history (inside of a dome or Arena) to simultaneously be masked. These plans were quickly scrapped when Sin Cara did not become the ‘replacement’ to Rey Mysterio as WWE had hoped.

WWE has been looking for a Mexican star to essentially take up the mantle of Rey Mysterio for years. This could be WWE’s attempt to re-develop the newer version of Sin Cara, played by Hunico.

What Happened After SDL & MMC (Video)

Last night’s episode of SmackDown Live went down from Las Vegas, Nevada, and was the go-home show before this weekend’s Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view (PPV). In the main event of the night, Charlotte Flair and Asuka went one-on-one in a preview of what’s to come this weekend. They’ll be involved in the first-ever female TLC match. Asuka, Flair, and Becky Lynch will compete in a Triple Threat TLC bout for the SDL Women’s Title.

After SDL, WWE held its tapings of the second season of its Mixed Match Challenge tournament. This saw the teams of Jinder Mahal and Alicia Fox, and R-Truth and Carmella punch their tickets to the tournament finals. The finals will also take place at this weekend’s TLC PPV in San Jose, California. The winners will earn the 30th entry spots in the men and women’s Royal Rumble matches this year.

Finally, after the conclusion of the SDL and MMC tapings, WWE held a dark match to send fans home happy. Rey Mysterio defeated Randy Orton after hitting a 619 and splash off the top rope. Mysterio and Orton will face off in a Chairs match at TLC this weekend as well. Check out a video from their dark match here below:

Rey Mysterio Shares Thoughts On Retirement, Comments On Son Continuing Tradition

We recently wrote about Rey Mysterio revealing that wrestling his son, Dominic would be a dream match he wants before he retires from in-ring competition.

Speaking with Lilian Garcia on her ‘Chasing Glory’ podcast on the subject of leaving the squared circle, Mysterio shared his thoughts process on retirement, what that might look like, and when he predicts it could happen.

“I’m definitely getting close to shutting down sometimes in the next couple of years,” he admitted, before adding, “I definitely don’t see myself going past five years. That’s without a doubt, you know, and I just wouldn’t wanna do it for the sake of my body and what I’ve gone through.”

“I Don’t Want To Have To Keep Doing This Because I Have To”

Allowing a unique insight into how he views his career at this stage, Mysterio hinted that he felt comfortable if he were to leave because of the decisions he and his wife have made over the years.

“You know I think I’ve done the work at home and I’ve brought the money in and my wife has been very smart to administrate everything at home,” said Rey. “She’s been a wife, a mother, a friend, and she’s been my accountant all these years and my administrator and she’s known how to handle the money and how to invest and how to move it around in the right direction.”

“I don’t want to have to keep doing this because I have to. I wanna keep doing it because I love it and you know I still feel like I have a little bit more to give to the audience.”

A Mysterious Tradition

Another subject discussed was the idea of Dominic continuing the Mysterio tradition, donning a mask when he debuts.

Rey confessed that he doesn’t believe his son will. This would bring an end to the masked tradition within the Mysterio lineage. It is worth noting, however, that Rey recently trademarked the name, Principe Mysterio. Principe translates to Prince, which would be a fitting title for Rey’s son.

“I don’t think he wants to [wear a mask],” Rey said. “He has something special to do with the mask just to represent and to pretty much honor his father,” he added, “but I think since he was known already when doing this as a kid and we post pictures together it is kind of hard.”

Dominic technically made his WWE television debut back in 2005 when he became embroiled in an on-screen battle over who his biological father was, Rey Mysterio or Eddie Guerrero.

He has since been training with Lance Storm in Canada and apparently has plans to move to Houston, Texas to continue his education under Booker T at Booker’s Reality of Wrestling school.

Rey Mysterio Reveals The One Dream Match He Wants To Have Before Retirement

Rey Mysterio has accomplished a lot of things in the wrestling business but as a father of an aspiring wrestler, he still has one more dream match left, before he calls it a career.

During his recent appearance on Lillian Garcia’s Chasing Glory podcast, Mysterio talked about a number of things including how he has accomplished a lot more than he ever thought he would.

Talking about his retirement, The Former World Champion said that he is definitely getting close to shutting down and hinted that he could retire within the next two years.

Though before that, Mysterio said that his final dream come true as a father and a wrestler would be to perform with his son in the ring so he can say ‘Ok. Now I’ve done it all. Now, this is it.’

For those who don’t know, Rey’s son Dominic has been training for a wrestling career for a while now and he originally started his training with Jay Lethal

He then moved to Lance Storm’s Wrestling Academy in Calgary and is currently looking to enter the next phase of his training by either joining Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling in Houston or going to Mexico for lucha lessons.

Kalisto Shares Story Of Meeting Rey Mysterio For The First Time

In an interview with Steve Austin, Kalisto credits Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio with inspiring him to pursue a career in wrestling.

Kalisto sat down with Stone Cold Steve Austin at 317 Gimmick Street on the latest episode of The Steve Austin Show, and discussed what Eddie and Rey meant to him as he was starting out in the wrestling business.

“Eddie not only made noise in the Latin community, he made noise everywhere. Same with Rey,” Kalisto said. “Eddie and Rey set the world on fire and they made some noise. You know what? That inspired me to actually follow my dream,” he said.

“Rey, when he won his world title, he did a book signing at my college in Chicago. I met up with him. I was five months in wrestling,” Kalisto said. “When I saw him, I said ‘I’m in the process of being a luchador, I’m learning so much, and you’re a good inspiration.’

Kalisto continued.

“At the time, I didn’t know he was going to win the title. And when I met him, he’s a little shorter than me, and that gave me inspiration. If he could do it, I could do it.”

Kalisto said that he would have loved to have had the opportunity to meet Eddie as well, but that in a sense, he can tap into Guerrero’s knowledge now, through his friendship with Mysterio.

“Rey, right now, he’s giving me so much advice. I told him I wish I could have met Eddie and picked his brain. And he taught Rey so much, and now I’m picking his brain.”

Kalisto also discusses being able to provide inspiration for the next generation, breaking in, his career, and much more. The full interview can be heard below.

Lance Storm Shares Story Of Teaching The “619” To Rey Mysterio’s Son

Lance Storm is training Dominic Gutierrez at the Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary, AB, Canada. According to Storm, Dominic was unaware of the trade secrets involved in delivering his father’s “619”.

Dominic Gutierrez Wrestling Training

As with many relatives of famous wrestlers, many are tracking Dominic’s development. He started training with the Storm Wrestling Academy in September but he’s been to other schools. Dominic trained with Jay Lethal as well.

In March, Mysterio was on Edge and Christian’s podcast and had the following to say regarding his son’s training.

“I’m going to have him train as much as he can in different countries,” Mysterio said. “Right now he’s training with Jay (Lethal). I want to get him out with Lance in Calgary. Is he in Calgary? Yeah, uh huh. And eventually, if I can get him to Japan and to Europe. And the final touch would be the Mexican side. That’s when I get ahold of him and we do one-on-ones, so eventually, when it’s time to tap out and hang up the mask, I would love to leave him set, so he can take over the name and the brand and take it to the next level.”

Rey Mysterio Segment Announced For SmackDown, EC3 Wants To Shave John Cena’s Head

Rey Mysterio Segment Announced For SmackDown

We noted before how Rey Mysterio was added to a number of upcoming SmackDown shows, making it seem like the Master Of 619 will be a regular of the Blue Brand going forward.

Now a new promo from the Miz has confirmed these reports. Miz posted the following video from Instagram, revealing that Mysterio will be a special guest on Miz TV during this week’s SmackDown Live:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BpKxlWohd4w/?utm_source=ig_embed

NXT Star EC3, who has been calling out Cena since he joined the Development Territory, responded to this tweet from the Cenation Leader, saying that he wants to shave his head:

While not confirmed, it appears that these tweets are seeds for a future rivalry between these two stars. With Cena confirming his status for WrestleMania 35, the big question is if we can see them competing at the Grandest Stage of Them All?

Rey Mysterio Says Leaving WWE Was For The Best

Rey Mysterio’s first run with WWE lasted 13 years. He left in 2014 and returned to Mexico where he competed for AAA Lucha Libre. Mysterio would also sign with Lucha Underground and compete there during seasons 2 & 3.

According to Mysterio, when he left in 2014, he needed a break.

“Through time as you age, as you get older you live and learn, and in my case being in this industry from almost 30 years, I think the best thing that could have happened to me is almost part ways for four years,” Mysterio said of his time away from the company. “Which is the time I remained away from the WWE. But at the same time, I left on good terms so that this day would eventually happen, a return, and here we are now, almost four years later. I’m more mature, I’m rested, my body and mind are fully rested, I’m healed up. I don’t think I could be living a better moment right now as we speak.”

Rey Mysterio’s 2014 WWE Departure

When he left in 2014, however, things did get contentious. Mysterio appeared on the big screen of a AAA event in Mexico while still under contract with WWE. A #FreeRey campaign was promoted by promotions hoping to bring the famous luchador back to where he started his career.

Here is a Tweet Konnan sent out in the summer of 2014 while WWE still had Mysterio under contract.

Rey made the comments in a video WWE posted today:

Rey Mysterio Advertised To Wrestle Twice At SmackDown 1000, Peyton Royce Reflects On Her Long Journey

– A return to WWE has been rumored for Rey Mysterio since he was a surprise entrant in the 2018 Men’s Royal Rumble Match in January and it will finally happen next week.

WWE announced this week that Mysterio will square off with United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in a WWE World Cup Qualifying Match on next Tuesday’s historic 1000th episode of SmackDown LIVE in Washington D.C. Mysterio is advertised to wrestle twice on the show as WWE revealed tonight in an email to those in the D.C. area that he will also compete in a tag team match.

In updated advertising for the event, Mysterio is slated to team with WWE Champion AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan against Randy Orton, The Miz, and Nakamura. A match pitting Styles and Bryan against Samoa Joe and Miz was previously advertised.

WWE also noted in the email that Flair will go one-on-one with SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch (after previously advertising Flair, Asuka, and Naomi vs. Lynch and The IIconics). This is presumably a dark match since they’re scheduled to face off at Evolution in a Last Woman Standing Match.

Storm isn’t the only person to train Dominic, however. Earlier this year, Jay Lethal also worked with Mysterio’s son.

“He’s up training with Jay Lethal right now,” Mysterio said on the E&C podcast earlier this year. “I’m going to have him train as much as he can in different countries. Right now he’s training with Jay. I want to get him out with Lance in Calgary [Canada].

Rey Mysterio WWE Update

It was reported earlier this week that Rey Mysterio and WWE have reached terms on a deal. Mysterio is believed to have signed a 2-year contract with the promotion. As of this writing, it’s not clear when he will begin on WWE programming.

Report: Rey Mysterio Signs With WWE

Rey Mysterio has signed a new 2-year deal with WWE, according to a report at PWInsider This has been an expected move for months. Now that both sides have put pen to paper, the former WWE Champion’s television return should be imminent.

It was noted in the report that Mysterio was pushing for an 18-month contract. However, WWE pushed for the 2-year deal that they ultimately agreed to. A clause in the contract allows him to “give notice” to WWE at the 18-month mark. Now that Rey Mysterio is officially back on the WWE roster, creative can begin planning how to write him back into storylines.

Rey Mysterio has made a few appearances for WWE this year. He made a surprise appearance in the Royal Rumble in January He was also at April’s Greatest Royal Rumble from Saudi Arabia in April. He is featured as a pre-order bonus character for the upcoming WWE 2K19 video game. This all-but-guaranteed he would be returning before the October 9th release date.

Mysterio made appearances on several non-WWE shows this year, including New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Dominion event in June and All In on September 1st.

Earlier this week, WWE teased a Rey Mysterio vs. AJ Styles ‘dream match’ for the SmackDown 1,000 special on October 6th. Mysterio has huge name appeal and he will almost certainly be appearing at WWE Crown Jewel on November 2nd from Saudi Arabia.

Rey Mysterio Addresses Talks With WWE About Potential Return

Rey Mysterio has addressed rumors about him being in talks with the WWE about a deal that would see him potentially making his return to the company. For months, the belief was that once he finishes up his other wrestling commitments then he could make his WWE return.

Those commitments were wrestling a match for New Japan Pro Wrestling at Budokan Hall on August 12th, the ‘All In’ event on September 1st and Chris Jericho’s upcoming Rock n Wrestling Rager At Sea. It’s now September and WWE has yet to announce that he has signed a deal.

The reason for that is due to talks still ongoing, according to Mysterio, who talked about it in an interview on the Apter Chat with Bill Apter. He brought up how fans should keep in that rumors will always be rumors. Mysterio stated, “There’s nothing locked in. There’s nothing secure that says that I am going back.”

He would continue by stating that he’s enjoying his independent wrestling life right now because he gets to choose and pick when he wrestles and where it’s at. He noted that if he wants to wrestle someone such as a Kenny Omega then he’ll make it happen. He stated that there’s no insurance or security right now that he’s going back to the WWE.

Mysterio made it clear that “If the time is right and there’s an agreement on both ends, WWE and myself, and there’s an offer on the table, I wouldn’t say no.” He ended by stating that he’s still enjoying his liberty out here in independent wrestling.

Mysterio has been announced as the pre-order bonus character for WWE 2K19. 2K Games also revealed that WWE Champion AJ Styles will be the cover star for the game that will be released on October 9, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. You can see the full roster reveal for the game here.

Rey Mysterio Waiting For WWE Return Date

Rey Mysterio’s return to the WWE seems to be in the works but not even the master of the 619 knows when he’ll return back to the industrious company.

On a recent episode of the Jim Ross Report, Rey Mysterio was the latest guest and he addressed his current position with WWE.

WWE Return

“We started off with an anonymous call in January [about] coming back for the [Royal] Rumble, which was a big surprise to the fans because every time I go to a signing they say, ‘damn, Rey, I did not expect to see you there,’ so I guess that started off the whole conversation about possibly making a return. We’re still in the mix of it. We’ve been going back and forth, talking about possibly returning this month and then this month, so the longer it extends, the more I get work outside. That’s my bread and butter. That’s what I do for a living. I’m just waiting for them to say, ‘now’.” Mysterio explained, “when they say, ‘now,’ if the time is right, let’s go!”

The Indies Are the Place To Be Right Now

While Rey waits for the call to return back to WWE, he is very much enjoying his time in the indies.

“I think God put me in the position to be where I’m at now.” Mysterio continued, “I’ve been very blessed throughout my [pro wrestling] career, J.R. and to be able to start off the year with the Rumble, unexpected, and then moving onto The Greatest Royal Rumble, and then, still for the first time doing my show in New Japan, which that was checked off my bucket list. I’ve never been there before and I was very excited and pleased to go for the first time. And the year’s not over yet. All In, last [Saturday], it was history. I just felt I’ve been at the right place at the right time.”
