Ric Flair Reveals How Long Ronda Rousey’s WWE Deal Is For

As we’ve previously reported, WSVN-TV Entertainment Reporter Chris Van Vliet interviewed WWE Hall Of Famers Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. During the interview Flair discussed the possibility of his daughter, Charlotte Flair, wrestling Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35.

During his answer he let it slip that Rousey may have signed a one-year deal with WWE, as she wants to start a family soon:

“In my humble opinion, if Rousey wants to elevate her status in the company she needs to go through The Queen and The Queen ain’t afraid of her, I got news for ya. I just saw her deadlift 315 lbs and she can bench 205 lbs for 6 reps. She is gifted beyond belief.

“I’m not involved obviously in any of the thinking but if they’re ever going to put the women where they belong, this is the year because I think Ronda has only signed a one-year deal and then she wants to get out of there. She wants to have kids and all that. She just needs to be be prepared to lose. Not if sure if Ronda likes that.”

He also was asked why he never faced Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania during their heydays:

“I had no idea I was going to win the Rumble, I just came in and I was 40 years old and this was 1991. People had waited for it so long that I think they said we’re not waiting until WrestleMania. Let’s put these guys together because nothing else was working at the time.

“We actually started on the West Coast and sold out everything and in all honesty Turner did not have the audience or the viewership in the West Coast that they had in the Midwest. So they knew me but not that well. So we went to Oakland, LA, Phoenix, San Diego and back on the road I landed in New York, Bobby Hennan quit then we did the Garden and we didn’t see each other.”

Ric Flair Says Ronda Rousey Only Signed A 1-Year Contract

According to the 16x World Champion, Ric Flair, WWE’s hottest mainstream celebrity is only signed on through next year’s WrestleMania. Flair’s understanding of the situation is that Rousey is only on a short-term commitment deal as she plans on starting a family.

Flair made the comments during an interview with Chris Van Vliet.

Ric Flair: Ronda Rousey Only Signed To 1-Year Contract

During the interview, the topic turned to Charlotte Flair possibly facing Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35 next year. It’s possible Charlotte and Ronda will be the first women to headline a WrestleMania.

Flair seemed to suggest Charlotte vs Ronda will need to happen next year as Ronda is only signed to a 1-year deal with the company.

“If they are ever going to put the women where they belong, this is the year because Ronda – I think Ronda only signed a 1-year deal and then she’s out of there,” Flair said. “She wants to have kids and all that.”

Flair and Hogan have been making promotional appearances together for several months. Since his health scare last year, Flair has been one of Hogan’s biggest proponents, stating the Hulkster has been there for him during some very tough periods in his life. Flair has been advocating for a return to WWE for Hogan as well.

The interviewer then turned his attention to Hogan. He asked the Hulkster how things were going in terms of an eventual return to WWE.

“Things are moving in that direction quite quickly,” Hogan said. “It’s all about execution and timing.”

Ric Flair Resurfaces Online After Recent Battle With Illness

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has rebounded after suffering a “sudden illness” last week.

We noted earlier on the site that the WWE Legend announced on social media that he was unable to fulfill his scheduled appearances last week as a result of this illness. If you recall, just last August, he had to be hospitalized due to doctors needing to remove an obstructed part of his bowel.

Because of this, he dealt with complications including kidney failure, which required dialysis treatment.

On Monday (May 21, 2018), Flair shared a new video on his official YouTube channel promoting his latest social media platform, which you can watch below. It’s great to see the WWE Hall of Famer styling and profilin once again.

Eric Bischoff Reveals Names Who Got Paid More than Kevin Nash and Scott Hall in WCW

Former WCW President Eric Bischoff on the first episode of his new podcast 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff, discussed a number of topics from his time in the WCW. During the podcast, Bischoff revealed which stars got paid more than WCW’s top stars Scott Hall and Kevin Nash.

“It was never a thing with me. We had a budget in place that had been approved the year before by Turner Broadcasting Finance Committee, so I knew the parameters that I had to work with. I knew that politically, from a locker room prospective, I knew that there was no way that I can bring these new guys in and make more money than Ric Flair,” Bischoff said. “Nor did I wanted to put them at the level, even if Ric Flair hadn’t been there, I didn’t want to pay them at Sting’s rate. Sting was the highest paid guy. We were all comfortable with that, the rest of the talent was comfortable with that, but I never used it as a barometer publicly. I knew that within my budget, and Sting being the highest paid guy, along with Ric Flair and a few below him, again, the questions that I did have with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, especially with Kevin because I talked with him more based on our previous relationship with him.”

Even though Nash and Hall were not the highest paid guys in the company, it worked for them because they didn’t have to work as much as they did in WWE. They had fewer dates and an easier schedule.

“Kevin made it clear to me, we put a maximum of 180 dates, WWE was at 250, we may be splitting hairs to a degree, but it wasn’t half the dates. It may have felt that way to Scott and Kevin, but we had a maximum of 180 dates, we never hit the maximum dates, it was around 125-130 dates a year, so it was definitely a lot less of a load than what they were used to,” Bischoff said. “Kevin was expecting his very first child at that time, and in WWE he would have been on the road, add the travel that they worked along with the front and back end of traveling back home and leaving again they were probably gone 300 days a year, so it was a much lighter load. Add the income from pay-per-views, house shows, and all the profit shares, they were probably making $500,000 or more, but they had to work hard to get it, but they both expressed to me, especially with Kevin, it was much of a lifestyle consideration as it was a financial one.”

The “Nature Boy” is set to play the president of the World Wrestling Union, a Las Vegas-based promotion that lead character will be wrestling for.

Flair told The Wrap, “I really like this wonderfully written script and find it to be very entertaining. The edgy sense of humor is great, but the story also has a good heart. I’m expecting the inspirational story line will appeal to fans that extend beyond my loyal core wrestling base, and I am seriously looking forward to getting this film in front of worldwide audiences. “You know what I mean? He’s just an incredible human being and incredible in-ring performer. And still, his legend lives on, no matter if he’s in the ring or outside the ring people still do ‘The Strut,’ give the ‘Woo!’ It’s amazing.”

– Speaking of The Miz, it was announced by RAW General Manager Kurt Angle that he would be defending his Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania 34 in a Triple Threat match against Seth Rollins and Finn Balor. “The Demon King” took to Twitter to react to the news that he’d be getting a crack at the title on “The Grandest Stage Of Them All”:

Jake Roberts On Ric Flair Not Wanting His Help Battling Alcoholism

WWE Hall Of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts was recently interviewed by The Wrestling Estate to talk about several professional wrestling topics. Roberts was asked about working closely alongside Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson on the WWE creative team in the 90s:

“When I was there, we had like six people who we’d sit down and go over things. Bottom line is it all goes through Vince [McMahon], anyway. But you could talk to Vince. He would listen to a point. We got along well when I was booking with him, quite well. Pat was just a tremendous talent.

“The only problem I had with Pat was that he liked to go with comedy too much. I feel like if people wanted comedy, they’d watch a comedy show. This is wrestling, let’s see some wrestling. But to each his own. You can’t knock Vince too much because he’s still rolling.”

Roberts also shared his opinion on why he thinks there is too much comedy in professional wrestling today:

“I think so. It’s my own feeling. But they’re doing a three-hour show and I’m sure it’s very taxing trying to keep it going. I guess there is a need for some comedy, but again, I just think they put too much out there. I don’t think they pay enough attention to heat for heels.

“Of course, there are no heels and babyfaces anymore. Everybody does the same stuff. I don’t like that either. There should be a clear line as to good guy and bad guy. I think that’s what the people really want. Maybe I’m wrong, hell, I’ve been wrong before.”

It turns out that Roberts also actually reached out to fellow WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair on battling alcoholism. “The Nature Boy,” however, didn’t want Roberts’ help in the matter:

“I sent a message to him, and unfortunately, he didn’t want any help from me. I’ll just leave it at that.”

Ric Flair Picks His Modern Day 4-Horseman

Ric Flair has had a busy week. He spent the early week hanging out with his friend, Hulk Hogan. The pair was interviewed by TMZ reporters as Flair talked openly about the support Hogan has given him over the years. Flair also attempted to market “Space Mountain” contracts earlier this week until WWE asked him to remove the items from RicFlairShop.com.

Yesterday, the 16x world champion appeared on the morning rock radio show, Justin Scott & Speigel. Amongst other topics Flair spoke on, he named the guys he would most want to have in the 4 Horsemen if the group are still active today.

Talk of the 4 Horseman starts at the 3:55 mark in the video below:

Ric Flair Modern Day 4 Horseman

The first on Flair’s list is not much of a surprise. Dolph Ziggler has been compared to Flair and Shawn Michaels much of his career, as both were obvious influences on his style.

“The first guy I would take is Dolph Ziggler.” Flair stated. “The second guy would be Seth Rollins.”

Rollins is also a natural choice for the group but many fans won’t be happy with Flair’s 3rd choice.

“God I haven’t had too much fun with him, but I’m sure he’d be great Roman Reigns. Roman is a trooper. I got to be careful with what I say because God forbid anyone have any fun anymore.”

After Reigns, Flair announced Randy Orton would also be a natural for the group:

“Oh God, he would run from me but Randy Orton for sure. But he is so married now and so laid back and having a good time. Make no mistake Randy Orton right now is still the best wrestler in wrestling”

Ric Flair Posts (then deletes) $50 Ride on Space Mountain Contract

Fast-acting customers would have been able to secure a voyage on Space Mountain yesterday. Ric Flair was briefly signing and selling official “contracts” for a ride on Flair’s amusement park/sexual analogy ride.

Unfortunately, it appears WWE asked Flair to remove the offers from his website.

The WOOOOO Compromise

The “WOOOOO Compromise” contract read as follows:

“By Signing This Compromise, both parties involved agree to ride Space Mountain and engage in sexual relations on this night. This contract adheres to guidelines of informed consent, and both people in the relationship must be present and not in an intoxicated state before signing. No party shall be pressured or persuaded into something that they do not want to do, and they reserve the right to terminate the contract if need be. This contract has the signed and sealed approval of The Nature Boy Ric Flair, who has taken many women for a ride on Space Mountain, and has the utmost respect for women.”

While the WOOOO Compromise is no longer available, Ric is always putting out new merchandise at RicFlairShop.com. He’s currently got a new T-shirt up of himself and Hulk Hogan.

Shawn Michaels Explains Why He Took Creative Control Of His WrestleMania 24 Match Against Ric Flair

WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels recently joined the “In This Corner” podcast to talk about several professional wrestling topics. One such topic was his WrestleMania 24 match against two-time WWE Hall Of Famer “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair. The pair put on one of the best matches in WrestleMania history. It was the last match Flair would work inside of a WWE ring.

During his interview on the show, Michaels divulged that he took creative control over the match and choreographed it himself. He described himself as a “control freak”:

“Truth be told, when it came to that kind of stuff, I am a bit of a control freak. Emotionally, I just knew where I wanted–especially with that match, that might quite honestly it was my ‘love letter’ to Ric Flair. My way of trying to show him, not only the friendship that we have, but also the impact that he had on a 15-year-old me, and trying to convey that to him through a wrestling match, and knowing that I couldn’t be the only guy that he had that effect on. You hope that the other 80,000 fans out there get that; clearly everyone did, and the millions at home did.

“It’s sort of making that decision as a performer to say, look, this is something I want to do, please let me do it. It’s not because you don’t want them to do anything to mess it up, it’s your feelings and emotion, so you have to be the one that is driving that match if it makes any sense. That is why I was so adamant about that match. Honestly, that is how most of my matches were. I probably wrestled only one way too much from my heart than to my head, but honestly for me that is what made the difference in those matches, which was for me to do it in more from a 15-year-old fan in me.”

WWE Legend Picks His Royal Rumble Winners

Since appearing on RAW’s 25th anniversary special with his daughter, Ric Flair has spoken with Sky Sports about the upcoming Royal Rumble in Philadelphia.

The interview discusses Flair’s experience and history around the rumble match, as well as who he believes will win.

Since his daughter, Charlotte, will not be competing in the first ever women’s Royal Rumble on Sunday, there is no controversy over who he selected as the winner: Asuka.

Flair stated that Asuka is “like the women’s version of [Great] Muta, with the paint and everything, and she’s very talented.”  He furthered this by saying that all the superstars who come over from Japan are technically and mechanically talented.

Asuka has to be one of the favourites to win the Royal Rumble as she enters the event undefeated in WWE.  Ric Flair’s choice for the men’s Royal Rumble continues the theme of dominance, with Roman Reigns.

Flair explains that his choice of Roman Reigns is governed by the prospect of WrestleMania, knowing that Roman will have a big part to play, it’s likely that he will be building success at this time.

“I love Roman, he’s a great character and a great guy. He deserves it.”

Opinion/Discussion:

Does Roman Reigns deserve it?  Really?  Or a better question is, who does deserve it?

What Happened After RAW 25 With The Miz, Ric Flair & Others (Photos)

There was no dark main event after the WWE RAW 25th Anniversary show went off the air at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn but there was a special dark segment for fans at the Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom.

That dark segment, which took place after Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson defeated The Revival with DX, Sean Waltman, WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall and Finn Balor at ringside, saw new WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz cut a promo on DX and The Balor Club. Miz has traveled from the Barclays Center to the Manhattan Center following his big title win over Roman Reigns. Miz ran down DX and The Balor Club, promising not to invite them to the RAW 30th Anniversary special. RAW Tag Team Champion Seth Rollins then came out, which caused the fans to chant ROH. Rollins cut a promo on The Miz and acknowledged winning the ROH Title in this same building, saying he was proud of it. Miz then cut such a good promo that the fans turned and started cheering him on. The segment ended with Rollins hitting his Blackout curb stomp on Miz as a big “suck it!” chant rang out from the crowd.

Triple H then cut a promo to thank fans and the DX theme song played to send everyone home happy.

There was another dark segment that took place following the DX segment at the Manhattan Center with WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair. Flair commented on making the mistake of returning to WCW after being at the Manhattan Center for three RAW shows, and talked about how he was lucky to be back with his friends for RAW 25. He put over the members of DX, Waltman and Scott Hall, noting how Shawn gave him the best send-off in the history of sports for his retirement.

Below are a few photos from both segments:

Ric Flair Talks About His Health Scare, Battling Alcoholism (Video)

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair recently spoke with Atlanta’s Fox 5 news about his brush with death last summer, feeling lucky to still be alive and his struggle with alcoholism. Here are some quick quotes:

His health scare last August:

“I knew that something was going on because it really hurt. So, she [Fiance’, Wendy Barlow] took me and, sure enough, my intestines had ruptured.

Feeling lucky to still be alive:

“You have no idea. You want to know something? I am preoccupied with dying, does that make sense to you? I think about it every day.”

Abusing alcohol:

“I don’t carry a flask, I don’t drink at home, and I’m a social drinker. I mean my whole life, I never drank during the day. But at night, when I’m through working, yeah, I drank. I didn’t start ‘day drinking’ until probably right before my son [Reid Fliehr] died. And then, I really, after he passed away, it was 10 in the morning until 2 a.m. every day.”

Ric Flair Reacts To Hulk Hogan Calling Him The Greatest Of All Time

On the latest episode of Neal Pruitt’s Secrets of WCW Nitro podcast, Pruitt welcomed the director of ESPN’s “30 for 30” on two-time WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair, Rory Karpf. Karpf discussed Ric’s relationship with David Flair, ESPN’s reaction to the original version of the documentary, Shawn Michaels’ reaction to a quote from Flair in the film, and Flair’s relationship with Hulk Hogan. Here are the highlights:

Ric’s relationship with David Flair:

“I think it’s probably a strained relationship. Things change every time I talk to Ric [about it]. I don’t think they have very much in common, but I know Ric loves his son. I know [David] came to the hospital to see [Ric], so that was pretty big…but I think Ric is definitely closer to Megan and Ashley for sure.”

ESPN’s reaction to the first version of the film:

“We did three completely different rough cuts…the first one was a very linear progression of Ric’s story. [For] cut two, we really made the film all about 1980’s wrestling, so much so that some other people were featured as well. It was really about 1980s culture and kind of the boom of ’80s wrestling. ESPN hated that cut. They thought it was terrible.”

Shawn Michaels’ reaction to a Flair quote in the documentary:

“I said to [Shawn], ‘Ric said he wants to be remembered as the greatest wrestler’. Shawn just kind of nodded his head and he goes, ‘that’s really somethin’, huh?’ [Shawn] started talking about the wrestling business, and he said that ‘wrestling is really a business…it doesn’t love you back, nor should it’. I thought he had a lot of insight [in that way]. I don’t think this part made the film…but he said ‘y’know, wrestling, it’s a pretty silly thing’. He said he loves it, and it’s fun, but he can’t imagine it taking precedence over [his] family. He said [that] seems ridiculous to him.”

Flair’s relationship with Hulk Hogan:

“Those two have really become pretty good friends over the last couple of years. Ric said he wasn’t surprised to hear [Hulk] put him over like that [in the movie]. From what I understand, they had maybe a little bit of a strained relationship going back to WCW, but then Hogan brought him to TNA, Hogan loaned him some money, they went on a tour together. In fact… when Ric was in hospital, from what I was told, Hogan visited him twice – and was the first person to visit him – whereas a lot of wrestlers you might think [would] visit him didn’t even reach out.

“[Hogan] sent me a really nice email that I thought was really kind. Mainly again – even in the email – Hogan put over Ric. I’m hoping that Hogan will get to come back into wrestling, because that’s where he belongs, and I think that’s his number one love as well as [Flair].”
