Roman Reigns Teasing The Rock Will Be At WWE SummerSlam

Roman Reigns and Nikki Bella appeared on Fox Sports’ The Buzz with Jimmy Traina to hype WWE SummerSlam and discuss WWE’s charity auction taking place at CharityBuzz.com/WWE.

Reigns spoke about the fan who threw the MITB briefcase into the ring, his worst in-ring injury and memories of Roddy Piper and Dusty Rhodes. Nikki spoke about John Cena’s recovery from a broken nose, the Divas revolution and more.

Reigns revealed that he found out that he wouldn’t be winning the WWE World Heavyweight championship at WrestleMania 31 the night before the show, after the Hall of Fame ceremony.

He also commented on the possibility of his cousin The Rock making an appearance at SummerSlam next Sunday.

“I wanna tell you, but I don’t want to give anything away.”

Roman Reigns Comments On Fan Who Threw A MITB Briefcase At Him

Roman Reigns spoke with the Miami Herald this week about the fan who threw a replica Money in the Bank briefcase into the ring at Saturday’s WWE live event that hit Reigns in the head.

“I was confused at first. I thought Bray hit me in the head with the kendo stick. So immediately I was like, ‘Aww man. You’re about to get it, brother. Aww, you’re about to get your [butt] whooped,’ but then I looked down, and I could see the briefcase. So then I’m trying to piece this thing together.

“If you see the video, you see me stand up to where I kind of got a little bit hot. Once I was able to process the situation in a matter of seconds, I knew what needed to be done, and our security team took care of it.”

Reigns praised the security team for taking care of the situation in an orderly fashion and said that even though he’s a pro wrestler, he’s a father and husband first.

“It was just a bad choice by a 31-year-old man, throwing briefcases at entertainers while they’re busting their [butt] for you. Everybody was on top of it. He was escorted out, briefly after, and luckily for me, [the briefcase] was plastic, so it didn’t hurt, but it’s scary. What if it was something that could have hurt me. Hit me in the eye.

“I’m a character and a sports entertainer and a wrestler, but I’m also a father and a husband and a provider. So for me that’s scary, because I’m just going out there to put on a good show and provide for my family and take care of my future, and if somebody takes that away from me… For what? For 10 seconds of Internet fame. That’s tough to deal with. That’s hard to process.”

Backstage Update On Plans For Sting’s WWE Return

As recently as last month, there had been talk of Sting competing at SummerSlam, teaming with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose against the Wyatt Family.  One of the reasons WWE decided not to use Sting at this year’s SummerSlam pay-per-view is due to the fact that the card is already loaded with stars like The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, actor Stephen Amell and others.

With that said, it’s possible WWE is waiting to use Sting as a hook to sell the WWE Network in September for Night Of Champions, which takes place in Texas, where Sting currently lives.

If Sting is used in September, it’s possible he will work the previously rumored six-man tag-team match with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose against Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan. A big factor in this match happening is Erick Rowan’s status, as he’s currently out of action due to injury and might not be back until November.

WWE Fan Who Attacked Roman Reigns Arrested, Banned From Future Shows

As reported over the weekend, a WWE fan who attended Saturday’s live event from Victoria, British Columbia threw a replica Money In the Bank briefcase into the ring and hit Roman Reigns in the head during his match against Bray Wyatt.

CTVNews.ca confirms that the fan was arrested, but the charges were later dropped after he issued an apology. There were no injuries in the incident.

A Victoria police spokesman told CTVNews.ca that the 31-year-old fan “snuck” the briefcase into the arena and threw the briefcase into the ring after being encouraged to do so by other fans at ringside. He’s been banned from all future WWE events.

Video: Fan Throws MITB Briefcase At Roman Reigns At WWE Live Event

During the Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt match at the WWE live event in Victoria, B.C., a fan got involved in the bout — and not in a good way.

At one point during the match, a fan threw a replica Money In The Bank briefcase, which struck Reigns in the back of the head.

The incident caused a major disturbance to the show, but the match continued.

The alleged perpetrator and his group got into a scuffle with security guards before they were removed from the building. Victoria police were also called to the arena.

Daniel Bryan Says He Wants Another Brand Split In WWE

WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan appeared on a recent episode of the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast and spoke about his preference for separate RAW and SmackDown rosters, as well as his original plans for his WWE Intercontinental Championship run. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On his original plans for his I-C title run: “One of the things I wanted to do when I came back [from injury], was do something with the Intercontinental Championship. And my big spiel, my big pitch for this thing, like, I want to be the Intercontinental Champion and I only want to be on Smackdown. I don’t want to be on RAW. I want to be on Smackdown because one of my things was I would never have gotten this opportunity if there wasn’t split brands, if there wasn’t two [world] titles. If there was just the one main title, [WWE] would never, ever given me the opportunity.”

On doing another brand split in WWE: “I knew coming back from my neck surgery that I was not going to be the top good guy, as far as the booking is concerned. I’m not talking about popularity, as far as placement of people. And one of the things that really can hurt you is that if people see you as that and people want you to be that and you’re not that, is that they can take it out on other people. Right? Like, taking it out on somebody like Roman [Reigns] when [WWE] are trying to push him and that sort of thing.” Bryan added, “if you put [Roman Reigns] and I on different shows, then it’s better for him and it’s better for me.”

“Right now, [WWE] are not going to put Cesaro in a WWE World Heavyweight Championship program with Seth Rollins. I mean, [WWE] might, but I don’t think [WWE] will though. [WWE] would do that with [Cesaro] and me and the Intercontinental Championship and it might not be the main event of pay per views, but if it carries Smackdown, if that’s the main story on Smackdown, it can show everybody, like, I think WWE doesn’t think people are capable of some of this kind of stuff. I don’t think [WWE] thought I was capable of carrying that kind of stuff until [WWE] gave me the opportunity and it turns out I was. And until you give them the opportunities, give somebody like Cesaro an opportunity to do that and show that he can do it, you know, like, that was part of my thing too. People like Cesaro, people like Cody Rhodes, you know, people like Ryback. Give them these opportunities to carry a show like they carry a program and it would just be good for everybody, and, not only that, good for morale, I was hoping. Like, I have all these greater things. I want everyone to be happy at work. I want us all to enjoy it and be like, ‘hey, if I work hard and if I’m good and if I get good crowd reactions, I am going to get further’.”

Daniel Bryan Talks About Winning Over Vince McMahon

WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan recently spoke with Brian Fritz of The Sporting News earlier this week and was asked if he feels he has won over Vince McMahon.

“You know, yes but I don’t know to what degree,” Bryan said. “You know what I mean? Does he think I should ever main event another WrestleMania? I would say probably not. (laughs) It’s interesting. I think he likes me, he sees me as a valuable performer. He sees me as someone who makes the company money. But I still don’t think he will ever see me as ‘the guy’ in the way he sees John Cena as ‘the guy’ or in the way he potentially sees Roman Reigns as ‘the guy’. To this day, I still don’t think he sees me like that.”

Bryan was also asked how much he feels the injuries he has suffered have prevented him from being viewed as one of the top guys in WWE.

“Yeah, that has hurt me a lot as far as that goes,” he said. “It would be interesting to have seen what would have happened had I not had my neck surgery shortly after WrestleMania last year. And when I say that, when I say he doesn’t see me as ‘the guy’, I’m not blaming him. He has good reason to not see me as ‘the guy’. Right? (laughs) There’s plenty of reasons for me to not be ‘the guy’. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t see me as a valuable performer.”

Possible Spoiler On Sting’s WWE Return And Plans For His Storyline

We have reported about how there are plans in WWE for Sting to eventually become involved in the Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns storyline, which is part of the reason why Luke Harper reunited with Wyatt to put The Wyatt Family back together at WWE Battleground this past Sunday night.

The current belief is that Sting and Reigns vs. Wyatt and Harper will take place at next month’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view, however it was also noted that a new member of The Wyatt Family could be introduced, as Erick Rowan is injured, and if so, the match could become a six-man match with Dean Ambrose being added to the Sting/Reigns team.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Sting is not expected to be brought into the storyline on television until late in the game, likely as a big surprise.

WWE Battleground Spoilers: Plans For Sting, Wyatt-Reigns & More

Some type of outside interference is expected in the finish of tonight’s Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt match at WWE Battleground.

According to the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, there have been plans for Luke Harper to get involved in the Reigns-Wyatt feud, possibly tonight.

It’s also worth noting that this is also the angle where Sting is rumored to take part in as well, as Sting is expected to be involved in the same match as Wyatt at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view.

What Happened After Monday’s WWE RAW

WWE held a dark match main event after last night’s WWE Battleground “go-home” edition of WWE RAW.

In a match held strictly for the live audience in Atlanta, Georgia, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins retained his title over Roman Reigns when Bray Wyatt interfered, causing the disqualification.

As the post-match fireworks exploded, eventually Dean Ambrose hit the ring to make the save for Reigns.

Monday’s RAW ended when Reigns and Ambrose cleaned house of Rollins and Wyatt. The two stood tall and celebrated together to send the fans home happy.

WWE SmackDown Results – July 9, 2015

WWE Smackdown on SyFy Live Review
Taped on Tuesday at Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Report by Jake Bennett & ProWrestling.net

[Q1] Footage was shown of Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar’s revenge on The Authority from Monday’s Raw, with the destruction of the Cadillac and J&J Security. Seth Rollins music hit to open Smackdown and he made his way to the ring alone. The announce team hyped the Battleground Main Event as Seth made his introduction.

Seth said that he marched down to the ring and did the unthinkable on Raw. He told the crowd to boo all they want, but he’s more of a man than any of them will be, because on Raw he went to the ring and called out Brock Lesnar. Seth said he gave Lesnar every opportunity to step between the ropes like a man to prove he’s the beast he says he is, but instead he proved he’s a coward. Instead of taking out his frustrations on Rollins, Brock took them out on the $56k Cadillac CTS. Seth made mention of the injuries sustained by Noble and Mercury, and called them his family. He said it wasn’t the car that bothered him as much as Lesnar messing with his family.

A beeping noise indicating a truck was backing up echoed through the arena. Someone backed up the destroyed CTS into the arena, and then Paul Heyman walked out and introduced himself as the advocate for the guy who destroyed that car. Heyman said Rollins will be all alone on the 19th at Battleground when he loses the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Brock Lesnar. Heyman said the damage done to the car will pale in comparison to the damage done to Seth Rollins on the 19th when Lesnar drags him not to hell but to a place much worse called “Suplex City”.

Rollins reiterated that Heyman thinks the car is metaphor for what he’s going to look like after Battleground. Rollins reversed the statement and said the car would resemble Lesnar after Battleground, and then listed off his accomplishments of destroying The Shield, cashing in at WrestleMania, and reuniting the authority to leave Lesnar you. Heyman attempted to get in a few words and declare that Lesnar would walk out of Battleground after holding the belt over a fallen Rollins, but before he could finish Rollins told him to shut up. Rollins told Heyman that the only man to walk out of the Battleground would be the reigning, defending, undisputed WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.

[Q2] After the interview, the announce crew put over the main event of Rollins vs. Ryback, and Dean Ambrose made his ring entrance…[c]

Bo Dallas made his way to the ring. He told Ambrose that he looks to be in need of some inspiration, and a shower. Bo referenced his encounter with The Rock at a house show, and said he was so inspired that he went on to start in a hit HBO show. If he can do that for bland unattractive people like The Rock, there was still hope for Dean Ambrose. All he had to do was Bolieve!

1. Bo Dallas vs. Dean Ambrose: Ambrose controlled the early going with chops. He went to hit a bulldog out of the corner, but Dallas reversed and threw Ambrose into the post shoulder first. He then threw Ambrose into the post two more times, and Ambrose spilled to the outside. Bo followed him and threw him into the barricade, and used the ring apron to hold down Ambrose and hit strikes to the back. Bo applied a headlock in the ring…[c]

Bo still held onto a headlock, but Ambrose escaped and hit a rebound clothesline. Ambrose hit jabs and chops and then clotheslined Dallas to ringside. Ambrose followed up with a suicide dive that sent Bo into the announce table. Ambrose climbed up top, but Bo jumped up and hit a suplex that got a near fall. He went for the Bodog, but Ambrose avoided it and hit a bulldog of his own. Ambrose was able to hit dirty deeds a moment later and got the pin.

Dean Ambrose defeated Bo Dallas at 10:18.

[Q3] Randy Orton was teased for a return…[c]

Backstage, Big Show spoke to Seth Rollins. Show told him he sympathized with Lesnar taking out his buddies, and said he needed to take out his rage on Ryback later on tonight. Show said he would do him a favor and take out his buddy Roman Reigns later. The announce then cut to some footage of Rusev putting out Dolph Ziggler “indefinitely” on Monday. Tom Phillips said Ziggler had a bruised trachea and was having trouble swallowing and breathing.

Rusev made his ring entrance with Summer Rae. Rusev was wearing low cut boots now instead of wrestling barefoot….[c]

[Q4] 2. Rusev vs. Fandango: Fandango hit a nice head scissors and then thrusted in the general direction of Summer Rae. Rusev took over with kicks and punches, and then hit a knee to the ribs and rocked Fandango. There was a “We Want Lana” chant until Rusev applied a nerve hold and taunted the crowd. Fandango eventually escaped and hit a dropkick, and then hit a top rope clothesline for a two count. He then climbed up again, but Rusev got out of the way and hit a thrust kick to the chest. He then applied The Accolade and Fandango tapped immediately.

Rusev defeated Fandango at 4:09

After the match, Rusev reapplied The Accolade and had Summer Rae hold up his hand in victory. Rusev then celebrated in his usual silly manner. The announce team plugged Big Show vs Roman Reigns for next…[c]

Roman Reigns made his entrance as footage from his Bray Wyatt confrontation on Monday was shown. Big Show then made his ring entrance.

3. Roman Reigns vs. Big Show: Reigns tried to slug it out with Big Show early but ate a big shoulder block that stopped him in his tracks. Show hit a body slam and taunted the crowd and yelled “I’m a giant”. The announce team speculated as to whether Reigns head was in the match, as Show sent him out of the ring. Reigns sent Show into the post and hit one of his apron dropkicks to shake up Big Show.

[Q5] Show beat a countout by about a second and Reigns hit a series of clotheslines and punches, and eventually knocked down Big Show with a running clothesline. Reigns setup for a Superman Punch, but Bray Wyatt’s music hit to interrupt him. Someone walked out to the stage with the lantern, but Reigns turned around just in time to punch Wyatt in the mouth as he tried to sneak up from behind him. Reigns continued to battle Big Show for a moment until Wyatt interfered.

Roman Reigns defeated Big Show by DQ at 4:48.

After the match, Big Show hit a chokeslam on Reigns. Wyatt crabwalked up to him as he got up and hit Sister Abigail…[c]

The Prime Time Players were in the ring, and the New Day made their entrance. Big will be taking on Titus O’Neill. Footage was shown of New Day vs. The Lucha Dragons.

4. Big E vs. Titus: Big E hit a body block and some stomps at the start of the match. Titus reversed an irish whip and sent Big E to the outside, and then tossed him back into the ring from the apron. Titus hit a couple of shoulder blocks and then an awkward looking body slam. Big E fired back with a belly to belly. New Day tried to interfere, but after Darren Young protested they were tossed from ringside. Afterwards, Big E walked into a sit out spinebuster and Titus pinned him for the win.

Titus defeated Big E at 3:28.

After the match, the announce team plugged WWE 2K16 and showed more footage of the Cadillac being wheeled to a recycling facility and crushed before it was brought to the arena for Smackdown.

[Q6] Randy Orton made his entrance into the arena as Tom Phillips plugged footage of what he did on Raw for next..[c]

Footage was shown of Sheamus and Randy Orton’s confrontation from Raw. Orton then said that no one in has career has gotten under his skin quite like Sheamus, He then said Sheamus fancies himself a modern day gladiator, and says ridiculous things like “Are you entertained!”, and he has made it his goal to make him entertaining. He would rip that stupid mohawk off his head and shove up up his pale white arse.

As Orton tried to leave, the Ascension walked out. Viktor said this was their match time, and he has two choices. He could leave and let them have their time, or stay and be eaten alive by two hungry wolves. Konnor said he should leave, or they would personally introduce them to the wasteland. Orton RKO’d Konnor and hit a hanging DDT in Viktor, followed but another RKO.

The announce team switched gears and focused on the Beast in the East special. They spoke about Owens losing his NXT Championship, and the confrontation between him and Cesaro from Monday, and the fallout from the Cesaro and Cena match. The Bella’s made their entrance with Alicia Fox…[c]

[Q7] Tamina and Naomi made their entrance…

5. Naomi and Tamina vs. Brie Bella and Alicia Fox: Brie and Naomi started and Brie fired up Brie Mode early but it went nowhere. Tamina tagged in and hit an impressive uranage. Naomi tagged back in and Brie sent her into the corner and tagged out to Alicia Fox. Alicia took down Naomi and knocked Tamina off the apron. Alicia sent Naomi off the ropes, but Tamina made a blind tag and surprised Alicia with an elbow to the back. She picked up Alicia for her Samoan Drop finisher but Nikki jumped up on the apron, allowing Brie to break the hold. Alicia hit a big axe kick and pinned Tamina for the win.

Alicia Fox and Brie Bella defeated Naomi and Tamina at 3:41.

Backstage, Ryback was interviewed. He called out Seth Rollins for being a coward for running from Brock Lesnar on Monday. He said he told Rollins what it meant to be a champion two weeks ago, but tonight he would show him. Ryback then said it was feeding time…[c]

[Q8] 5. Ryback vs. Seth Rollins: Ryback used his strength to intimidate Rollins, and then sent him to ringside. Rollins looked frustrated and re-entered the ring without taking his eyes off of Ryback. Rollins got in a few knees, but Ryback picked him up for a delayed vertical suplex, and then clotheslined Rollins out to ringside once again…[c]

Rollins dropped Ryback throat first onto the top rope, and jumped out to the apron to hit a side kick that sent Ryback to the floor. Rollins tossed Ryback into the barricade and then taunted the crowd before re-entering the ring. He then mocked Brock Lesnar by jumping with both feet onto the ring apron.

Seth jumped on Ryback’s back to apply a sleeper, but Ryback reversed into a backpack stunner. He then hit Rollins with a back body drop and a sit out bodyslam for a two count. Ryback went for a powerbomb, but Rollins avoided it and climbed to the top rope. Ryback avoided him and hit a spinebuster. Rollins attempted to roll to the outside, but Ryback pulled him back into the ring and hit a powerbomb. He set up for and hit a meat hook clothesline. He then picked up Seth for Shellshock, but Seth squirmed out. He then hit an enziguri and rolled out to the floor.

Seth signaled that he was taking his title and leaving. He grabbed his championship and started up the ramp, but Ryback followed and pulled him back. Rollins then tried to leave through the crowd, but he was stopped again. Ryback set up for Shellshock on the outside, but Rollins escaped again and left with his belt through the crowd. Ryback got in the ring and Rollins was counted out.

Ryback defeated Seth Rollins via Countout at 12:11.

After the match, Big Show’s entrance hit and they decided to take apart Ryback. They surrounded the ring and Ryback tried and failed to take down Big Show. They both hit kicks and punches until Roman Reigns made his entrance to even the odds. He speared Big Show and sent Rollins into Ryback to be hit by Shellshock. Both babyfaces celebrated to close the show.

Bret Hart Says Daniel Bryan’s Career Is Over, Explains Why Roman Reigns Isn’t Getting Over

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart spoke to Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard blog to discuss the state of WWE, Daniel Bryan’s future, Roman Reigns and much more. It’s a great read and definitely worth checking out.

Despite Daniel Bryan telling fans that he’s optimistic about returning to the ring one day, Bret Hart says he’s seen this story play out before and thinks Bryan has wrestled his last match.

“Daniel Bryan is finished,” said Hart. “He’ll never wrestle again. I don’t think he knows it yet. I feel terrible about Daniel Bryan. For all intents and purposes, he had the exact same thing happen to him that happened to me after Bill Goldberg kicked me in the head [ending Hart’s career].

“One day, you learn it’s over. Doctors tell you that you can’t wrestle and you’ll never wrestle again. I lost millions of dollars because of that. I pray that it’s not the same for Daniel Bryan.”

Hart also talked about why Roman Reigns didn’t get over the way WWE expected, and sees a strong similarity between Reigns’ character and a former rival of his.

“It was so manufactured that it hurt someone who was naturally getting over on his own,” said Hart. “As soon as the company decided they were going to make him the star, people started to sour on him. Roman Reigns is a really good wrestler and he’ll find his path. He turned the corner at WrestleMania when the fans accepted him on his own merit just ‘cause he had a great match.

“But, in the creation of Roman Reigns, he seems to now be a lot like Triple H’s character. Long hair, indestructible, no facials, he’s always angry, and there’s no softness in his eyes, so it’s very hard to get sympathy. All of that was poorly thought out.

Other topics discussed include the passing of Dusty Rhodes, Dustin and Cody, Seth Rollins and much more.

Jim Ross Q&A: Austin-Lesnar Rumors, WWE Storylines Leaking Online, Reigns/MITB

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently updated his official Q&A section, answering questions from fans on a wide variety of topics. Below are some of the highlights:

On his favorite gimmick matches: “The 60 minute or 30 minute Ironman Matches were always a favorite of mine. Enjoyed the Royal Rumble as well.”

On differences between ring announcers and play-by-play announcers: “Big difference in being a ring announcer ala Howard Finkel as opposed to being a play by play man like Michael Cole. The guys at the desk work off their monitors or at least that’s the norm. The less I knew that was going to happen the better. I can’t speak for all other announcers.”

On the I-C Chamber match last Sunday: “Yes it was a head scratcher.”

On if Roman Reigns winning Money In The Bank would be a mistake: “It’s impossible to mandate something is a mistake long before it happens. Let’s allow things to play out and then cast judgment.”

On rumors that Bill Watts would fire you if you lost a bar fight: “Watts did not want his wrestlers being on the losing end of a fight to a local as to protect the business. He had no policy against he talent going to bars. Just as we hired Foley we should have gotten Owens hired as well or at least that’s my thinking.”

On if his wife ever gets fed up with all of the traveling he does: “My wife is a fan and has supported and made sacrifices for my career countlessly. I would not be where I am today without her.”

On wrestlers getting multiple inductions into the WWE Hall Of Fame: “I do not believe that anyone is deserving of being inducting multiple times into the WWE HOF.”

On WWE storylines leaking and if there’s a way to prevent it: “Insider info is an industry wide issue not just WWE. Some fans have craving for inside, advance information which to me takes away from the presentation of the various broadcasts. Plus, there are not enough true, superstars performing nowadays.”

On the Steve Austin vs. Brock Lesnar rumors and if Lesnar is the best opponent for Austin: “Again….the match likely will never happen but the cat’s out of the bag and now booking any thing else without a major angle won’t set well with the fans. Again, much to do about nothing IMO.”
