– WWE says reports of the 2017 Royal Rumble taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California are incorrect.
Officials from the organization contacted F4WOnline.com on Sunday to deny reports. They said that an announcement will be coming soon concerning the location of next year’s Royal Rumble.
The story popped up following Saturday’s house show at the Staples Center, where multiple attendees claimed an announcement was made to the live crowd about WWE returning to the venue in January for the Royal Rumble.
– Renee Young tweeted the following after Dean Ambrose captured the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank.
WWE has released pay-per-view sales numbers for their Royal Rumble & Fastlane on their corporate website. This year’s Royal Rumble sales were down 37% from 2015’s Royal Rumble, and Fastlane was down 6% from the previous year’s Fastlane.
Here are the preliminary sales stats for both events:
Royal Rumble: 91,000 total buys (59,000 international; 32,000 domestic)
Fastlane: 43,000 total buys (25,000 international; 18,000 domestic)
These numbers don’t include viewers on the WWE Network. The 2014 Royal Rumble event drew 467,000 PPV sales.
When the clock struck 11 p.m. eastern on Sunday night, that was the feeling among WWE fans on social media. It seems that only fans at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida enjoyed the moment and atmosphere of Triple H’s WWE championship victory.
Prior to WWE Raw, the WWE did what was right and really had no other choice. If Reigns would’ve retained his title, the ending wouldn’t have brought any surprise and WWE fans had the potential of truly getting frustrated over the creative decisions.
Sure, it worked the last two years with Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins, but it’s best not to keep pressing their luck time and time again. There will come a time when WWE officials don’t listen to a “fan revolt.” Then, and only then, will wrestling fans understand.
The Royal Rumble was a fantastic pay-per-view. It kicked off with Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose in their Last Man Standing match for the Intercontinental championship. As many predicted, they nearly stole the show with multiple high-risk spots. Following them was the WWE Tag-Team championship match between the New Day and Usos.
All five men didn’t disappoint either. There was a lot of speculation and discomfort before the show started. Luckily, the United States title and Divas title were also very good matches. Kalisto and Charlotte came out victorious. Kalisto’s feud with Alberto Del Rio seems over, but the women’s division is just getting started.
That led to the Royal Rumble main event. Let’s be honest: there hasn’t been a good Rumble match since Edge won it in 2010. Each year brought way too much predictability to the table and Del Rio’s victory in the 40-man Royal Rumble didn’t feel special. Sheamus’ win is also in that argument.
There were only two real surprises in the Royal Rumble match, but they lived up to expectations. AJ Styles debuted in the WWE at no.3 in the Rumble, which blew the roof off the Amway Center. Sami Zayn also came out later in the match to have a nice encounter with his bitter rival, Kevin Owens.
Bray Wyatt and the Wyatts had a great showing. Chris Jericho lasted over 50 minutes and Brock Lesnar did exactly what he was brought in to do. He dominated for several minutes, but was ultimately out-muscled by the Wyatts. It’s clear that Ambrose is in future plans, and that was solidified on WWE Raw.
Triple H pushed Reigns over the top rope and once again, the WWE Universe wasn’t stunned, but they were pleasantly surprised. In the final few minutes, Ambrose and HHH went back-and-forth, but the Game got the best of Ambrose by throwing him over the victory.
The Royal Rumble, as well as the subsequent episode of WWE Raw, are over, the discussions for Fast Lane can commence.
What exactly did we learn from the Royal Rumble?
WWE officials care about AJ Styles and so does the WWE Universe. There were mixed reports about the WWE worrying if fans wouldn’t know who he is. The casual fan is their main concern. He debuted early and carried on throughout the match. Owens eliminated him, but he was the man to do it. That proved WWE officials wanted to handle Styles’ debut with care.
Brock Lesnar is going to put over the Wyatt Family. It’s the match that is rumored right now for WrestleMania 32. Wyatt, or another member of the clan. Even though he’s in the main event of Fast Lane for the WWE championship, don’t expect him to come out with the belt. Actually, interference from Wyatt during that match is a likely scenario.
WWE is beginning to care more about the women. The Divas Revolution was a flop. From booking to time on the show, it just didn’t work. Trying to get over all those women at the same time was an impossible feat. Thankfully, they strayed away from that and gave the fans a great rivalry between Charlotte and Lynch. Fans saw Sasha Banks appear after the bout and call out Charlotte. This could lead to a triple threat at Fast Lane, or even WrestleMania.
The Royal Rumble match was nearly booked to perfection. No legends showed up, which didn’t leave a lot to be desired anyway. Zayn and Styles were the two surprises in the match, because HHH wasn’t all that shocking. Nobody overstayed their welcome in the match that didn’t need to. The League of Nations got involved at the right time and did what had to be done for the storyline.
Triple H is the best placeholder for Roman Reigns’ revenge. Due to the situation WWE booked themselves into, was there really a better option? Now, that doesn’t mean the previous booking can change.
It’s the principle of the matter. Who is the biggest heel on the main roster? Triple H is, and even though Reigns will most-likely get the belt back at WrestleMania 32, perhaps they can write it in a way that makes sense.
There’s too much riding on the next several weeks for the WWE to mess it up. Frankly, they knocked the Royal Rumble out of the park. Everything fit and it made the fans want to watch WWE Raw last night.
WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley posted the following on Facebook about AJ Styles joining WWE. Foley is impressed at what he’s seen so far and ponders what could be in store for the former TNA & IWGP champion at WrestleMania 32.
HIS FUTURE LOOKS PHENOMENALI really hoped AJ Styles would debut on the main roster. I hoped he would be able to…
AJ Styles had an impressive showing during Sunday night’s WWE Royal Rumble match before getting tossed out by Kevin Owens. This was the kickoff to a Styles-Owens feud, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer.
WWE.com has a feature looking at Styles’ arrival, calling him a game-changer. While touting his track record, there was conveniently no mention of TNA. “After conquering the independent circuit and Japan, A.J. Styles wants to show WWE why he’s so phenomenal. Hold on tight.”
WWEShop.com is selling new AJ Styles t-shirts, with many sizes currently unavailable due to strong sales.
Styles tweeted the following during the Rumble PPV:
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about Sunday night’s WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view:
AJ Styles’ WWE Debut:
“AJ Styles had a terrific debut and made an memorable debut into the world of WWE. Styles is a money ball player and his future in WWE should be bright based on what WWE mgmt saw and heard Sunday night.”
On Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens:
“Really enjoyed the Ambrose-Owens fight that started the show and set the bar HIGH for all to follow especially when it comes to the use of ‘props’ and other familiar ‘gimmicks.’ The two worked their ass off, and I have great respect fo hard work and passion. Unfortunately many fans had rather bitch and moan about creative direction and not acknowledge the talent’s intense, in ring work. I might have considered switching the US Title bout with the Last Man Standing match in the lineup but that’s hindsight.”
Triple H Winning The Royal Rumble To Become WWE Champion:
“Overall I enjoyed the Royal Rumble show from start to finish. I embraced the work ethic and the lack of count out and disqualification finishes. Creative is always subjective and perhaps even more in today’s marketplace than at any other time in the business thanks to social media. That being said, have no issue with WWE setting up a potential HHH vs. Roman Reigns WWE Title Bout at Wrestlemania Texas where I’d expect Reigns to get the ‘ultimate moment’ at the 32nd edition of the biggest event in the genre.
The fact that HHH did not ‘cheat’ to eliminate either Reigns or Dean Ambrose has some fans perplexed, but I’d encourage all to wait and see how this plays out and to remember that it’s not overly healthy to get too upset at pro wrestling creative. Just saying.”

It’s not a secret that in his spare time (he’s had a lot the past couple years), Daniel Bryan enjoys training in submission grappling. When he lived in Las Vegas, he was a regular at the Xtreme Couture gym to train with coach Neil Melanson, a catch wrestling expert whose mentors include former pro wrestler “Judo” Gene LeBell. Since moving to the Phoenix, Arizona area, he’s training at The MMA Lab, run by John Crouch, under whom he trains Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, recently earning his blue belt. At The Lab, he’s befriended many of the athletes, including former UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson, who’s the gym’s star fighter. Anyway, yesterday, Henderson tweeted this:

The 29th annual Royal Rumble takes place on January 24th at the Amway Center in Orlando. We’ll have live play-by-play coverage of the entire event right here on SEScoops.com on Sunday.
If you haven’t heard by now, AJ Styles is probably headed to WWE! It’s been an exciting few weeks ever since Dave Meltzer news broke the news, with the WWE website and even John Cena getting on board the hype train.
On Wednesday, Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reported that AJ Styles is scheduled to begin working for WWE over the coming week. He will be at Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view as well as Monday’s RAW from Miami and Tuesday’s SmackDown tapings from Tampa.
Styles has been wrapping up his final independent appearances over the past few weeks, dropping Revolution Pro’s championship last weekend and telling fans at that show that he’s ready to kick some ass in the Royal Rumble if WWE has a spot available for him. It was also last weekend that PWTorch.com reported that WWE made Styles a “blow-away” offer that could not be matched by NJPW, ROH or TNA.
Styles will be making a final appearance for Ring of Honor on Saturday night from Duluth, GA where he’ll be signing autographs. The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that at this time, ROH is not allowed to air footage of Styles on their weekly show on Comet. This is similar to Samoa Joe being allowed to make a final non-televised appearance for ROH before joining NXT and a sign that AJ Styles’ WWE contract has either been signed or agreed to.
Whether he appears in the Royal Rumble as a surprise entrant (the original plan, before it got out) or debuts the following night on RAW, Styles will joining the main roster without having to spend time in NXT.
WWE announced on Wednesday that a Fatal 4 Way tag team match will take place on the Royal Rumble Kickoff show, with the winning team earning spots in the 30-man Rumble match.
The participants in the Fatal 4 Way match include The Dudley Boyz, The Ascension, Darren Young & Damien Sandow and the team of Mark Henry and Jack Swagger. Unfortunately, this means 6 of the 8 competitors will not qualify for a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship later in the evening.
As of this writing, WWE.com’s official match preview for the Rumble only lists 13 confirmed entrants for the Rumble match. With two more spots now reserved for the winners of the Fatal 4 Way match, half of the spots remain unfilled.

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. In this installment, JR talked about his new role as the play-by-play announcer for New Japan Pro Wrestling on AXS TV and gave his thoughts about Monday’s episode of WWE RAW.
With the Royal Rumble just days away, JR gave his prediction for who will walk out as WWE World Heavyweight champion. JR appears to be on board with the prevailing sentiment that Triple H will be involved in the finish, despite the fact that Reigns has shown improvements in virtually every aspect of his game.
“I expect Reigns to win the Rumble and/or to get through the hellfire and brimstone only to figuratively get bit in the backside by the 31st entry in the Rumble match which might be HHH. “
JR added that Reigns is not necessarily a ‘made man’ just yet and should stick to speaking in sound bytes instead of long monologues like we see at the start of WWE RAW each week.
At WrestleMania 30, the planned main event was Batista and Randy Orton for the WWE championship. Batista was going to work face, while Orton remain the heel. CM Punk left the company, the WWE Universe voiced their opinion and Daniel Bryan defeated three-fourths of Evolution to win the title.
On the way to WrestleMania 31, Roman Reigns was the man to beat Brock Lesnar for the WWE championship. WWE fans voiced their displeasure once again and Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the championship. The last two years worked out well for wrestling fans.
This year, it doesn’t seem like they will go three-for-three.
Last night on Monday Night Raw painted a different picture than most were expecting. Most thought Reigns and Lesnar would play tug-of-war with the belt again. Instead, Reigns speared Lesnar twice, the League of Nations got tossed around by Lesnar and the Wyatt Family came in and cleaned house.
It was at that moment, that WWE fans were baffled.
Why would WWE officials have Wyatt family stand tall at their go-home show, when they’re lacking momentum? To be completely fair, their biggest win was against the Dudley Boyz. Unfortunately, their stock wasn’t nearly as high as it was during their debut. Without attempting to be pessimistic, the WWE will go with what they had planned weeks ago.
Triple H or Roman Reigns will walk out of the Royal Rumble as WWE World Heavyweight champion and feud until their main event clash at WrestleMania 32. That’s what the decision-makers are going with and until the WWE Universe voices their displeasure again, nothing will change.
Like it was mentioned earlier, that may not work this time around. Does that atmosphere not feel different than it has in past years?
Perhaps it’s the injuries that piled up at the absolute wrong times. Seth Rollins and Cesaro were rumored to be staples of WrestleMania season until bad luck struck the WWE. Bryan still hasn’t returned from the injury he sustained at WrestleMania 31.
People, myself included, complain about why young talent isn’t getting used properly in these instances. Especially when injuries happen, that’s the perfect time to get new guys over. The problem is, they are relying on old talent to get their ratings to go up.
There’s a good reason why Triple H is still wrestling that one match and why the WWE tried to get Shawn Michaels to return at the Royal Rumble.
Vince Russo put it perfectly by stating that they simply can’t get their own guys over.
“You think these guys from New Japan are going to walk in and be over? You can’t get over on wrestling matches alone. Some of the greatest ring technicians in the business never got over, because they were missing the character,” Russo said.
Even though Russo isn’t universally-liked by the WWE fanbase, he’s absolutely right. New Japan Pro Wrestling’s guys coming into the WWE is a column for another day.
The ending of Monday Night Raw will either lead to something great for Wyatt and his followers, or amount to nothing. Is he slated to surprise everyone and win the Royal Rumble match? If so, then they planned it perfectly.
There are reports that Wyatt and Lesnar are heading for a match at WrestleMania. Have the Eater of Worlds cost Lesnar the championship at the Rumble and build a long-term feud that culminates in big match. Wyatt must go over, by the way.
WWE fans just want new talent, new storylines, a new direction and fresh content. The current program with Becky Lynch and Charlotte is a grande example. It’s the best storyline on WWE television because of how simple it truly is.
A distinct heel and face are present. Lynch is the babyface chasing the title, while Charlotte is the cowardly heel who cheats to win. Two-straight weeks had Lynch cut great promos and solidify her nice winning streak. If WWE officials want Lynch to win the belt, the Royal Rumble would be a great time to do so.
Capitalize on her momentum and Charlotte can use her rematch clause at WrestleMania 32, where Sasha Banks could get involved.
The WWE needs a simple, but effective outlook moving forward.
Do you want to know why NXT is so successful right now? They’re doing what the WWE isn’t. NXT is simple and effective.
Two more title matches have been confirmed for Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Alberto Del Rio will defend the Untied States Championship against Kalisto and Charlotte will defend the Divas Championship against Becky Lynch after Ric Flair accepted Becky’s challenge on her behalf. With those matches set, here’s the updated card for the Royal Rumble:
30-Man Royal Rumble Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Title
Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Intercontinental Title
Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Kevin Owens
WWE United States Title Match
Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Kalisto
WWE Divas Title Match
Charlotte (c) Becky Lynch
WWE Tag Team Title Match: The New Day (c) vs. The Usos

AJ Styles WWE debut could very well be taking place within the next week, but a new report by Bryan Alvarez of f4wonline.com states that AJ’s first WWE appearance might not be taking place at the Royal Rumble, as most fans are expecting.
After dropping the Revolution Pro Wrestling’s Undisputed British Heavyweight championship to Zack Sabre Jr. on Saturday night, Styles addressed that crowd in the UK and teased a potential appearance in Sunday’s Rumble match. While AJ Styles would make for a very satisfying unannounced Rumble entrant, Alvarez says WWE has different plans for the former TNA Champion.
While an appearance in the Rumble is possible, WWE is reportedly planning for Styles to debut next Monday night on RAW from Miami, FL. WWE is working on a vignette that will air on RAW next week in an effort to introduce Styles to the audience.
Additionally, AJ Styles will be the only newly acquired talent from NJPW that will not start out in NXT. Shinsuke Nakamura, Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson will all be heading to NXT for at least a few months when they sign with WWE.
Comment on this article and tell us when you think the AJ Styles WWE debut should take place.

Zack Sabre Jr. defeated AJ Styles for Revolution Pro Wrestling’s Undisputed British Heavyweight championship at Saturday night’s “High Stakes 2016” show. After the match, Styles gave a farewell speech to the rowdy UK crowd.
Styles said he’s not sure what’s next for him and was met with a loud “Royal Rumble” chant. Styles said if there’s a spot available for him in the Rumble, we could be seeing him again very soon. The place went nuts and Styles said that if he does appear in the Rumble, he’s going to kick some ass for the fans.
At this time, there are no indications that AJ Styles has actually signed with WWE. The former face of TNA has been doing some of the best work of his career over the past 2 years and looks to be capping it off with a run on the biggest stage of them all. Sean Radican and James Caldwell of PWTorch.com published a report on Saturday detailing Styles’ road to WWE with exclusive details about how it all went down. There was of course strong interest from NJPW and ROH to continue featuring Styles in main events for months to come, but WWE is said to have offered a “blow-away” deal.
It’s been a crazy few weeks for WWE leading up to next weekend’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view, capped off by John Cena going down with a shoulder injury that could keep him out of action until the summer. Booking plans for the Rumble finish have been finalized and according to f4wonline.com, whatever unfolds is going to be a setup for a major match at Fastlane.
This year’s Rumble features the unique stipulation of the winner walking out as WWE World Heavyweight champion. Since this year’s Rumble winner won’t be earning the customary WWE title shot, the main event of Fastlane will likely determine the WrestleMania main event challenger.
WWE officials are determined to position Fastlane as a must-see show, as evidenced by Brock Lesnar being advertised to appear.
Fastlane takes place on Sunday, February 21st from Cleveland, Ohio at the Quicken Loans Arena.
WWE has announced two more title matches for next weekend’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
Dean Ambrose will defend the Intercontinental championship against Kevin Owens in a Last Man Standing match. Plus, Divas Champion Charlotte will put her gold on the line against Becky Lynch.
Of course these matches are in addition to the 30-man Royal Rumble match, with the winner walking out as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. As of this writing, there are 13 Confirmed Participants:
Roman Reigns
Brock Lesnar
Chris Jericho
Bray Wyatt
Erick Rowan
Luke Harper
Braun Strowman
Dolph Ziggler
Ryback
Big Show
Curtis Axel
Mark Henry
Stardust

With the 2016 Royal Rumble just around the corner on January 24th, the WWE creative team was reportedly still trying to finalize their plans for the show as of last weekend.
PWInsider.com reports that while plans for big events like this are usually sorted out earlier, the injuries plaguing WWE’s roster have made things more chaotic and the meeting to finalize plans for the show just took place over the weekend. The team reportedly spent a lot of their time putting together the 30-man Rumble main event, which will see Roman Reigns defending the WWE World Heavyweight title against the 29 other competitors.
Despite rumored ‘Rumble appearances, AJ Styles, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows still have not signed WWE contracts, according to PWinsider.com. All three wrestlers leaving NJPW will have to pass medical tests before performing for WWE, and Anderson isn’t contractually available until February.
The 29th annual Royal Rumble event takes place on January 24 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. This marks the first WWE pay-per-view of 2016. We’ll have full live coverage of the Royal Rumble here on SEScoops, with backstage news leading up to and following the big event.
An AJ Styles Royal Rumble appearance would send shockwaves throughout the wrestling world and NXT Champion Finn Balor is reminding fans that it’s a very real possibility.
In a tweet sent out Monday night during RAW, Balor questioned what would happen if he entered the Royal Rumble himself at number #1 and AJ Styles entered at #2. It’s an intriguing prospect to say the least. Balor has yet to make his WWE main roster debut and Styles is the most likely of the departing New Japan stars to appear in the Rumble.
No matter how or when Styles, Nakamura, Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson debut in WWE, it seems apparent that they’ll be involved with Finn Balor in some fashion. Balor has ties to all four men from his time working for New Japan Pro Wrestling. He’s best friends with Karl Anderson and the two of them rode together in the Bullet Club along with Doc Gallows. AJ Styles took over as the leader of the Bullet Club when Balor departed NJPW and joined WWE. He’s wrestled Nakamura.
With so many of WWE’s top performers out of action for the next several months due to injury, there couldn’t be a better time for an influx of fresh talent. 2016 is already off to wild start and there’s a very strong chance that the complexion of WWE will be very different by the time WrestleMania season kicks into high gear.
With two weeks to go until the 2016 Royal Rumble, online betting sites have picked a favorite to be the last man standing as WWE World Heavyweight Champion – Roman Reigns. The odds are stacked against him, but the fans putting their money on the line see Reigns retaining. After Reigns, Triple H and Brock Lesnar are considered the most likely Superstars to win the Rumble.
2016 will be the first time in history that the reigning WWE Champion must put his title in the Rumble match. WWE has not yet addressed how the WWE Champion’s challenger for WrestleMania 32 will be determined, but we will probably know after WWE Fastlane in February.
WWE is now officially advertising Brock Lesnar for the upcoming Fastlane pay-per-view in Cleveland, Ohio on February 21st.
Lesnar, who was also announced for next week’s RAW in New Orleans, Louisiana, has been added to the list of talent advertised to appear at the 2/21 pay-per-view event.
Although he is not officially advertised yet for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view scheduled for this month, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported that Lesnar is booked for the Rumble event and would be returning to WWE television in January to help promote that fact.
With Lesnar now being advertised for Fastlane, it appears likely that he will in fact be working WWE’s next three pay-per-view events in a row, with WrestleMania 32 being the third.
– WWE posted the above video on their official YouTube channel, which shows highlights of his recent promotional tour of India.
– WWE also posted the following regarding WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and The Bella Twins appearing on ABC’s “Good Morning America” this coming Thursday, January 7th at 8am EST.
“This Thursday, WWE takes over ABC’s “Good Morning America” when WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and The Bella Twins join the hit morning show. Tune in to ABC during the 8 a.m. hour to see Reigns, Nikki and Brie join Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Lara Spencer and the entire GMA crew. Don’t miss the WWE takeover of ABC’s “Good Morning America” at 8 a.m. this Thursday.”
– Speaking of Reigns, the WWE Champion posted the following reaction on his official Twitter page to the announcement made by Vince McMahon on Monday’s RAW regarding Reigns defending his title in the 30-man over-the-top-rope Royal Rumble match at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Sunday, January 24th.
Roman Reigns’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be up for grabs in the 2016 Royal Rumble match. Vince McMahon announced the stipulation on RAW after Reigns attacked him once again en route to defeating Sheamus to retain.
This will be the first time ever that a reigning WWE Champion will put his title on the line in the Royal Rumble. Here are the 10 confirmed entrants:
Roman Reigns
Chris Jericho
Big Show
Bray Wyatt
Braun Strowman
Luke Harper
Erick Rowan
Dolph Ziggler
