  • WWE Makes Late Change Again, Top 10 Moments From This Week’s RAW (Video)

    – On Monday, WWE announced and promoted a match between Dean Ambrose and Randy Orton for the post-Night Of Champions edition of RAW. An hour later, they removed the advertising for that match and ended up going a different direction. During Monday’s RAW, WWE promoted a Night Of Champions rematch between The Usos and Goldust and Stardust, however just before the taping last night, they switched the advertisements to feature a Big Show vs. Rusev match instead.

    – Below is the “Top 10 Moments from this week’s RAW” video for Monday’s show.

  • Sheamus Interview: Wanting To Feud With Rusev, Reigns’ Injury, Lesnar

WWE United States Champion Sheamus spoke with Doug Mortman and Dave Lagreca on Busted Open after Sunday’s Night of Champions PPV. You can hear Busted Open on SiriusXM 92 and on the SiriusXM app. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

How He Felt After Wrestling Cesaro:

“I feel like I was out drinking too much whiskey because of how my head feels right now, last night was amazing I had a great time, the crowd was amazing and I had a world class opponent In Cesaro. Last night I felt like I had a lot of ups and downs because of the injury, last couple of weeks I feel like I’m starting to hit my stride, to get back where I am supposed to be and last night was definitely was a highlight. I want to build on that.”

Bringing Prestige Back to the US Championship:

“That’s the plan; I haven’t had a chance to defend the title as much I was would want to. Yeah that was the plan all along. There is only one WWE World Heavyweight championship which is held by Brock Lesnar. Brock isn’t there all the time and there is going to be a situation where the US and the IC title it’s a great opportunity to push those titles. The US title represents the country that gave me an opportunity to live my dream and yeah I know that sounds cliché but its true. I am having the time of my life and travel the world and entertain the fans. That is the goal and even though I don’t defend the title but when I go out there I want to do my best because I am representing the title even though I am not defending it. I do want to defend it more and that is the goal. Stride wise, I feel like I am hitting my stride. I do not want to stay stagnant and get stale I am trying to make sure I keep moving forward and keep this US Title. ”

    Roman Reigns’ Injury:

“I don’t think it will be that hard for Roman. I think Roman will fit back in. Like for example when Daniel Bryan went down, Roman came in and stepped up. Maybe some new guys from NXT will come up and get an opportunity. I think Roman will come back stronger and sometimes when you go away for a bit and the fans appreciate you when you come back. When you’re on TV every week people kind of get tired of you. When Roman is gone I think the fans will miss him. Roman will come back stronger and more determined. I think Roman will come back guns blazing right where he left off.”

Locker Room Reaction To Reigns’ Injury:

“Well, it is like this especially with Daniel Bryan. When someone goes down with an injury you feel for the guy. What we do is so physical we put a lot of pressure on our bodies and they tend to cave in a bit. We do it because we love it. We all band together, we do shows, we work together to put on the best show. As for Roman I know he will be back and better than ever like Daniel Bryan he will be back better and stronger. Sometimes you don’t have time to think about you just got to keep it going.”

    Would He Wrestle Brock Lesnar?

“Fella, I would love a crack at Brock. I am been asking for a long time for a crack at Brock Lesnar. There is no one more physical in that ring than Brock. That is something I would love to do. Who knows what the story is and where it’s going but I love to face Brock. I am looking forward to Cena vs Seth Rollins because Rollins has been on a roll as of late. That is a new fresh matchup between two great competitors. I don’t know where Dean will fit into that; a Cena/Rollins match up I am really looking forward to that. ”

    A Potential Feud With Rusev:

“I would love to see that match up. I would love to do it too; RUSEV has been on a roll as of late; been a slow and steady build and he put away Mark Henry last night. I am proud to hold the US Title because I am proud to live in this country. Regards to RUSEV I would love to take him on; Big, strong, physical fella. I think a brogue will go really nice on the right side of his face.”

  • WWE Night of Champions 2014 Preview and Predictions

Night of Champions is only a few days away. Even though the WWE has been serving up plates of garbage on Raw for weeks now, many still have high hopes for this pay-per-view, as every title in the company will be defended.

With that said, here are my predictions for this Sunday’s Night of Champions pay-per-view, which in case you haven’t heard, can be viewed on the WWE Network for only $9.99 (or $12.99 if you’re afraid of commitment).

Nikki Bella vs. Paige (WWE Divas Champion) vs. AJ Lee

Screen shot 2014-09-18 at 1.38.21 PM

I don’t expect it to be a terrible contest, as two of the three competitors are great workers and Nikki isn’t the worst Diva fans have ever seen. In the end, I believe Nikki will capture the title with help from her sister, reuniting the Bella Twins and putting an end to their horrible feud.

    Winner: Nikki Bella by pinfall

Sheamus (United States Champion) vs. Cesaro

Screen shot 2014-09-18 at 1.38.01 PM

This should be one of the more exciting contests of the night, but I unfortunately don’t see it being given a ton of time. Although Cesaro will put up a hell of a fight, Sheamus will retain after hitting a Brogue Kick, possibly setting up a feud with Rusev for the United States Championship in the near future.

    Winner: Sheamus by pinfall

  • Backstage News On Henry/Rusev Headlining RAW, Cena/Lesnar Countering NFL

The reason that WWE ran with the Mark Henry and Rusev segment in the main event slot of Monday’s RAW, despite being the “go-home” show for Sunday’s Night Of Champions pay-per-view, was to save the John Cena, Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman segment for earlier in the show.

Apparently it was Vince McMahon’s call to do so, as the feeling was WWE needed to put their best foot forward to counter NFL’s Monday Night Football game. This was also the reason that Cena and the RAW announcers kept referring to the fight taking place at “halftime.”

  • Jack Swagger Talks Breaking Up With Cesaro, Rusev Storyline & More

The following are highlights of a new This Is Infamous interview with Jack Swagger:

Being a veteran and passing off wisdom to newer talents: “Well, I don’t know if I would go so far as to call myself a veteran of the locker room… But I have had the honor of privilege of working with guys like Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Chris Jericho, Triple H… A lot of guys that don’t compete anymore, so a lot of guys coming up now aren’t going to have that knowledge or experience of someone who grew up in a different generation and had that old-school mentality and was able to pass it along to guys like me or Dolph Ziggler. It’s something that’s very special and can’t be overlooked, because it really is like… Triple-H and Undertaker, when they wrestled at WrestleMania, they’re the last of their generation, you know? And no one else is going to have that now, coming up. So it is important to try and pass along certain issues that you can help guys with. Me, I’m a very giving guy, and I always want to help and I always want to learn something, so I just try and pass along my hunger to those guys. I’m like, “Look, either you want this, and this is going to be how it is and you’re going to eat, sleep and breathe this, or you’re not going to make it.” I think that’s one of the most important things. You just gotta stay hungry.”

Why he thinks the USA vs. Russia storylines with Rusev have been working: “I think it’s a couple of things, why it turned out so well and why it hit home. One is that Rusev is this big immovable force. Amazing competitor. And Lana… She cuts these very anti-American promos, very believable, and if there’s one thing that Americans can agree on, it’s pride for their country. We can be torn a million different ways about issues that are going on, but then when you start talking about our country, one thing about real Americans… You can push us, and push us, and knock us down, but when the times get tough, we’re gonna unite, and we’re gonna stand up together and we’re gonna get stronger. And I think it’s along those lines. This is a very topical issue now, with the world and certain things that are going on, certain factions outside of our country, have all added to the storyline and just made it that much more passionate and that much more heartfelt. You look at the World Cup and how big soccer has become in America since then, I mean everybody was so proud of those boys down there, going out there and just playing their hearts out, and just wanted them to do well. If you give an American a chance to stand up and say “USA,” he’s gonna stand up and he’s gonna scream “USA.” It’s one of the most beautiful things about our country. We love it, and we’re gonna fight for it.”

Would he like to have seen more done in the aftermath of breaking up with Cesaro: “Absolutely. Antonio Cesaro and I… I always say that we’re the greatest tag team not to win a championship. There was something very special between us with the way we competed and the way we set off each other, and the way it went down definitely wasn’t the way I would have liked it to. But at the same time, the door is always open, so I feel like there was so much interest there that we could go back to that at any time.”

  • Brock Lesnar Confirmed For Next Week’s RAW, Arm-Wrestling Contest On SmackDown

It was announced on Monday’s “season premiere” of WWE RAW that on next week’s show, which is the WWE Night Of Champions “go-home” edition of RAW, Brock Lesnar will return live.

Also announced on RAW in an excellent promo segment in the ring between John Cena and Paul Heyman, it was revealed by Cena that if Lesnar didn’t show up to RAW next week, that Cena would beat up Heyman. So, you can likely expect some sort of confrontation between Lesnar and Cena on the final RAW leading into their rematch at the Night Of Champions pay-per-view,.

Finally, it was announced on RAW that on this week’s edition of WWE SmackDown, an “International Arm-Wrestling Contest” will take place between Rusev and Mark Henry.

  • Three New Night Of Champions Matches, Video Of Stephanie’s Announcement

While this match has yet to be made official by WWE, there were several mentions of a WWE Tag-Team Championship match at WWE Night Of Champions with The Usos vs. Goldust and Stardust. We reported that this match had been talked about backstage in WWE earlier this week.

Stephanie McMahon also made her announcement for Night Of Champions, confirming a triple-threat match with Paige defending the WWE Divas Championship against AJ Lee and Nikki Bella. You can watch video of her making the announcement above.

Also officially announced for Night Of Champions is Rusev vs. Mark Henry.

  • Detailed Backstage Update On Plans For The WWE Night Of Champions PPV

As things stand right now, the only matches officially set for the September 21st WWE Night Of Champions pay-per-view in Nashville, Tennessee are Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Sheamus vs. Cesaro for the WWE United States Championship and Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

According to reports, two additional matches that are all but confirmed are The Usos vs. Goldust and Stardust for the WWE Tag-Team Championships and Mark Henry vs. Rusev.

The plan right now for the WWE Divas Championship match on the card appears to be a four-way with Paige defending against AJ Lee, Nikki Bella and Brie Bella, as all four were linked together on all of WWE’s television shows this week.

Another match likely for the show, although it may not be a pay-per-view match, is Bo Dallas vs. Jack Swagger.

The key Superstars left without matches that are expected on the show are Chris Jericho (in his final match of his current run with WWE), Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns.

It appears WWE is going with a Reigns vs. Rollins match, so they may go with Jericho vs. Orton since the Jericho vs. Wyatt and Reigns vs. Orton matches are set for next week’s RAW to combat the season premiere of Monday Night Football. However, they could either way, with one final Jericho vs. Wyatt “blow-off” match, as well as another Reigns vs. Orton bout.

As noted in the past, the WWE Studios film “Lockdown,” which Dean Ambrose is off filming, is set to wrap up on the Saturday before Night Of Champions, so he could end up on the show if WWE chooses to go that route.

  • Ryback Exaggerates His Condition, Update On WWE Stars On Their Honeymoon

    – In addition to Rusev and Lana, who as we reported earlier today were on vacation in Maui this past weekend, Cody Rhodes and new-wife Brandi Rhodes (aka NXT’s “Eden”) also spent the weekend in Hawaii. The two were reportedly on their belated honeymoon.

    – Apparently Ryback was exaggerating his condition with the video he uploaded to YouTube that showed him in a hospital bed acting like he was about to undergo major surgery. It’s worth noting, however, that he actually has been dealing with some injuries, although he apparently overplayed it simply because he likes to mess with fans on the internet.

  • Update On Rusev & Lana In Hawaii, Backstage Jokes That They Should Be Drug-Tested

As previously reported, many WWE Superstars were on vacation last weekend due to the company not running any live events. Rusev and Lana, who are a real-life couple, were on vacation in Maui and took tons of photos while on their trip. One of them, which we posted here on the website (pictured above), showed them with Willie Nelson, Woody Harrelson and Kris Kristofferson. It is believed that they were at Kristofferson’s place in Maui.

Rusev and Lana are apparently friends with NXT wrestler Jody Kristofferson, Kris’s son, dating back to their days in the Orlando-based developmental system.

Due to the fact that both Nelson and Harrelson have a reputation as being big pot-heads, many were joking backstage in WWE that the company should have drug-tested Rusev and Lana as soon as they arrived back home.

  • Backstage Reason Why WWE Has Been Punishing Zack Ryder Lately

Apparently one of the reasons behind Zack Ryder’s loss to Rusev on Monday night was because of some of the negative tweets that he has been posting on Twitter as of late.

Some are going as far as to say Ryder had a “JTG moment” on RAW last night, referring to when JTG spoke out against WWE in public, which WWE followed up on by having him come to RAW the next week to get squashed by Ryback.

After his loss to Rusev on Monday night, Ryder tweeted the following:

  • WWE Raw Report Card (9/1)

The WWE rolled through midwest tonight, as they set up shop in Des Moines, Iowa. This week’s card featured a total of eight matches, including a life changing six-man tag main event. It’s time to once again take the WWE to school, and I’ll be the one doling out the grades.

As always, matches will be graded based on usual factors such as workrate, in-ring psychology, move variety, crowd reaction, and overall impact on the storyline. Important in-ring promos will also be graded based on factors such as originality, believability, and importance. Without further ado, here is this week’s Raw report card.

    Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel

    chris-jericho-ses-2

Tonight’s show started with Chris Jericho’s Highlight Reel, and featured a shitload of guests, including the Authority, John Cena, and Roman Reigns. There was some entertaining banter during the segment, including Triple H and Jericho hurling corny insults at one another as Jericho dissed Triple H’s pink tie, while the Game chose to attack Y2J’s scarf during a hilarious back and forth. Rollins was extremely over during the promo and got the biggest pop of the night in his home state. Cena threatening to sue the company was pretty lame, however, and held the promo back a bit. It was an overall decent segment, it set up the main event, and the crowd seemed to be into it.

    Grade: B

Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler vs. Cesaro and the Miz

    the-miz-ses-1

The first match of the night was a tag team match featuring the United States and Intercontinental Champions. The Miz showed up with his body double Damien Mizdow and a personal stylist, complete with chairs and makeup. Miz and Sandow were hilarious throughout the contest and the ending was solid. Ziggler and Cesaro also worked well together during the opening portion of the match, with Cesaro’s fall away slam into a pinning combination being one of the most impressive spots I’ve seen in a long time. Overall, it was an entertaining contest and was a good way to advance both feuds.

    Grade: B+

The following are highlights from the latest Jim Ross blog:

On a new FOX Sports piece he’s working on: “Doing some research on the recruitment of Brock Lesnar to WWE and on @HeymanHustle aka Paul Heyman and his national, cable TV beginnings in Atlanta for WCW. This will be a piece for FoxSports.com and will be posted in a few days. There are some interesting stories concerning both men that I think that you will enjoy.”

On Goldust and Stardust turning heel: “Interested in the Rhodes boys antagonistic turn on Monday Night Raw. I think it helps the tag team scene that is still a work in progress. Dusty’s boys are unique to say the least and I like their potential contributions as both have somewhat been underutilized.”

On Rusev and Jack Swagger: “When those talking about the Jack Swagger-Rusev rivalry, it seems as if the goal is to enhance the persona of Rusev at the end of the day but Swagger can maximize his minutes and help his own cause. Baby faces that get over never go down without fighting their heart out, selling with their head up and never quitting on the fans. Simple but true philosophy.”

  • Backstage News On Matches For The WWE Night Of Champions PPV On 9/21

For the WWE Night Of Champions pay-per-view on September 21st in Nashville, Tennessee, thus far the only matches that are official are Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and Sheamus vs. Cesaro for the WWE United States Championship. Next week, we will likely have a strong idea what the roles will be for Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Chris Jericho, Bray Wyatt and others.

By all indications, you can expect Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, The Usos vs. Goldust and Stardust for the WWE Tag-Team Championship and Paige vs. AJ Lee for the WWE Divas Championship.

Rusev was programmed with Mark Henry on last week’s RAW, however that issue was not addressed on this week’s show. Whether or not that will be Rusev’s match at the pay-per-view remains to be seen.

As noted earlier today, there’s at least a chance that Dean Ambrose will work the show, which led to rumors of a possible tag-team match with Roman Reigns and Ambrose taking on Seth Rollins and Kane, which would make sense based on Monday’s RAW storylines, as long as Ambrose is able to work the show.

Two other matches that seem pretty likely are Jack Swagger vs. Bo Dallas and Nikki Bella vs. Brie Bella, however that is strictly rumor at this point.

  • WWE Raw Report Card (8/25)

Campuses around the country are infested with returning college students this week. In honor of all the alcohol that will be consumed and the knowledge that will hopefully be absorbed, it’s time to take the WWE to school, and I’ll be the one doling out the grades.

Welcome to the first ever WWE Raw Report Card. Matches will be graded based on usual factors such as workrate, in-ring psychology, move variety, crowd reaction, and overall impact on the storyline. Important in-ring promos will also be graded based on factors such as originality, believability, and importance. Without further ado, here are this week’s grades.

    Hall of Fame Forum

    hulk-hogan-shawn-michaels-ric-flair-wwe-raw-ses-1

This week’s Raw started with a roundtable discussion regarding the upcoming rematch between John Cena and Brock Lesnar. First off, I never thought I’d see the day where Shawn Michaels was the worst dressed man in the ring, but his combination of cowboy hat, jacket, and Remington t-shirt didn’t do him any favors.

Overall, it was nice seeing the legends together, even if it did feel a bit scripted at times and offered little insight. One hilarious moment was when Michaels said everyone loves Cena, eliciting massive boos from the audience. Speaking of Cena, his promo was surprisingly compelling, and it was nice to see him own up to the beating he took at SummerSlam.

    Grade: B-

    Rusev vs. Jack Swagger

    jack-swagger-rusev

This was likely the last contest between Rusev and Swagger, and all I can say is, “Good riddance.” This match featured a lot of downtime that resulted in a poor workrate, and a lot of the match was spent outside of the ring with nothing going on.

The in-ring psychology was pretty good (Swagger sold the rib injury well) and the crowd was into it, so that raised the grade a bit, but it was ultimately a fitting ending to a rather pointless program that saw Swagger dominated at nearly every stage of the feud.

    Grade: C

    Rob Van Dam vs. Cesaro

    rvd-cesaro

This was a rather short match, but both superstars worked well together during the time they were given. One criticism is that the ending felt a bit rushed. One moment Cesaro was rolling outside of the ring to avoid the Five Star Frog Splash and only a few seconds later he was hitting the Neutralizer for the win in a sequence that felt a bit off.

The match also served its purpose by building a championship match between Cesaro and Sheamus – a program that looks like it could be entertaining with two of the company’s better workers.

    Grade: C+

  • Daniel Bryan Advertised For WWE Return In November, Undertaker In A WWE Movie?

    – Although he has yet to be cleared to return, Daniel Bryan is being advertised for the WWE European tour in November. • 5 Questions Following Monday’s Raw (8/18)

Last night’s Raw was held in Las Vegas, Nevada and featured a total of seven matches, including another classic between Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

Notably absent was former WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena, as he was recovering from injuries sustained at SummerSlam. Overall, a few questions were answered, but many still remain. Here are five questions that need to be answered following this week’s episode of Raw.

    5. Can Big Show/Mark Henry Generate Interest?

    will-the-world-strongest-team-get-a-title-shot-at-summerslam

The so-called “World’s Largest Team” has been running through the tag team division over the past week or so. The two giants once again teamed up this week on Raw, destroying Luke Harper and Erick Rowan in a relatively short contest.

Both of these guys have been largely absent over the past few months, so it’s good to see some sort of program, but can they generate interest as a tag team? With the Usos having beaten every team on the roster, it makes sense to find new challengers and I think Show/Henry against the Usos could make for a decent program. Obviously both teams are working as faces, so the best way to go about the feud could be to turn Show and Henry heel.

    4. Should Swagger Be Given More Time to Speak?

    jack-swagger-ses-1

Zeb Colter was notably absent last night after taking a kick from Rusev at SummerSlam. In his absence, Jack Swagger cut a surprisingly decent promo before his match with Cesaro.

Although Colter has served as Swagger’s mouthpiece for well over a year and the only words I’ve heard come out of Swagger’s mouth are “We the People,” I believe he should be given more time to speak. It would allow him to develop a non-robotic character, while also still receiving mentorship from one of the top managers in the business.

  • Jim Ross Blog: JR Gives His Predictions On Every WWE SummerSlam Match

The following are highlights from the latest Jim Ross blog, which features the WWE Hall Of Famer giving his predictions for tonight’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view.

On John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar: “If you’ve listened to my Ross Report Podcast on podcastone.com and iTunes you know that I’ve been saying for months that I thought Lesnar would win the WWE Title at Sumer Slam even before Cena regained the championship. I will stay with my prediction as I feel that WWE is grooming Roman Reigns for the to spot and that Reigns beating Lesnar next year at WM31 would be a big money match if properly built. Yes, one can build it ‘properly’ even if Lesnar isn’t a ‘full time’ talent. It’s called smart booking. It was done for decades with the traveling, NWA Champion.”

On The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler: “Timing is every thing in the wrestling biz and Ziggler has had too many false starts to endure many more w/o being looked upon by many frustrated fans negatively. I’d put Ziggler over and take a positive step in restoring the shine to the IC Title and what it has meant in years past in WWE…the in ring, work horse champ.”

On AJ Lee vs. Paige: “As I have said many times, AJ is WWE’s top in ring Diva while Paige has the ability to put herself firmly in that conversation. Although neither lady may find themselves ever on ‘Totally Divas,’ and they both may not care, I feel that AJ will retain her title Sunday.”

On Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton: ” ‘The Roman Empire’ begins its build in earnest with a quality win over a proven, top talent at a major PPV. WWE is doing a nice job building Reigns who is a work in progress but, as I’ve said, he has until April 2015 to be truly ready for ‘the spot.’ Funny how some fans of today’s generation are already having issues with Reigns which, based on their own reasoning, is embarrassing in my opinion.”

On Rusev vs. Jack Swagger: “It is hard to logically fathom seeing the Russian Flag prevail over the American flag in a match where capturing the flag determines the winner. I’m going with my fellow Oklahoman Jack Swagger who will always be the 2nd toughest wrestling from Perry, Oklahoma (Next to Dan Hodge) Sunday in LA in this traditional, nationalistic story line. A loss in this type of match won’t hurt Rusev in the least as he is still a work in progress too. The more personality Swagger demonstrates the better chance he has to contribute in a more significant way in WWE.”

On Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella: “I like this storyline, although I wasn’t crazy about the physical therapist component added last week implicating Brie’s husband Daniel Bryan having an affair with the physical therapist, and think that WWE can easily get more mileage out of this pairing. By hook or crook, I’d get Steph over and continue the rivalry in a very personal way which may include Nikki Bella. Steph has been a star in this presentation thus far. For a mother of three who has multiple full time jobs Mrs. HHH looks great and will represent well in the ring.”

On Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho: “Wyatt needs to win here and if he doesn’t I’d suggest counseling for all involved in the decision making process. There’s no reason that these two couldn’t have the match of the night or damn close to it.”

On Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose: “I’d like to see Rollins win a close one here and am curious to see how the Lumberjack Stipulation creatively plays into the match. I’d start the show with this match and feel that these two will tear down the Staples Center if provided the time so that they don’t have to rush the process.”
