Ryback Says He’s The Villain Against Cena, Mentions Cena’s Ex-Wife

Ever since Ryback attacked John Cena on last week’s post-WrestleMania edition of WWE RAW, there’s been a lot of speculation as to whether he’s now a heel or simply gunning for the WWE Champion. Ryback’s promo from RAW and his failure to aid John Cena when he was getting beat down by The Shield indicated that Ryback does in fact have a dark side.

With the following tweet he made after RAW, it appears Ryback is in fact embracing the role of villain against WWE hero John Cena:

Ryback also tweeted this on Tuesday afternoon, referencing Cena’s ex-wife Elizabeth:

Jim Ross Blog: Ryback Attacking Cena, Austin’s Endorsement Of Fandango & More

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Last Week’s Rowdy Crowd At RAW: “Speaking of reactions, the live events, RAWS, Smackdown, and the PPVs are the places fans should express themselves and not, as I wrote about recently, at an event like the WWE Hall of Fame. The boorish behavior of a loud, perhaps inebriated, minority of male fans is inexcusable and, believe me, I’ve heard all the excuses since writing about some of the attendees who acted like morons at the 2013 #WWEHOF Induction Ceremony. I see this behavior as a total lack of respect for all involved in the process not just those being jeered. Finally, the “we pay our money, so we can act any way that we choose” excuse is laughable….and embarrassing.”

Ryback Attacking Cena: “Just because @Ryback22 is hungry for the WWE Title and the money that comes along with it why does that motive make the powerhouse a villain? Since when did ambition make one an antagonist. Antagonist display a variety of common traits, non of which I have seen yet, I stress yet, from Ryback. I do like the apparent pairing of Ryback vs. John Cena and where this matter may be heading. To me, it certainly feels fresh even though some will take exception to the fact that Cena is in the equation. It doesn’t both me and I see this rivalry selling tickets and producing a reaction in the arenas.”

Steve Austin’s Thoughts on Fandango: “@steveaustinBSR predicts that @WWEFandango will be IC Champion within a few months. It might not take that long but I could also see Fandango winning the US Title as well at some point. Stars become stars over the long haul and even though Fandango has had an amazing few weeks and change as it relates to recognition, etc, it’s how he does long term that writes his story. If Fandango can continue to grow, a key role at WM30 could be in his future and that’s generally considered the yard stick.”

Ryback Tells Cena He’s Coming For Him, SmackDown Backstage Fallout

https://twitter.com/Ryback22/status/322849373870489601

– Friday’s WWE Smackdown scored a Trendrr.tv social media score of 79,964, down 6% for last week’s WrestleMania 29 “go home” show. Smackdown ranked #3 on cable for the night, behind “The Masters” on ESPN and the Celtics vs. Heat game on NBA TV.

Orton Comments On RAW Crowd, Ryback Teaming With Mark Henry, Matt Hardy

– On Thursday, we reported that Ryback is teaming with Dolph Ziggler on Monday night against the team of Cena & Del Rio, a sign that WWE is booking Ryback as a heel. WWE is now advertising Ryback and Mark Henry vs. John Cena and Sheamus for RAW live events in May. Again, this is not necessarily an indication that he’s fully turned heel, but it is a result of him feuding with John Cena.

– Matt Hardy tweeted the following about being added to the Alumni section of WWE.com and being featured as the “Superstar Spotlight”:

– Randy Orton tweeted the following about the crowd at this past Monday’s RAW:

Jim Ross Blog: WM29, RAW Crowd, Ryback Attacking Cena, Fandango Getting Over

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

WrestleMania 29: My match of the night at WM29 was Taker vs. @CMPunk. Loved @TripleH vs. @BrockLesnar too. Tough act to follow, as I have discussed here for weeks, and going on last is always a daunting experience and it was Sunday for @JohnCena and @TheRock but they came through it well especially considering that Rock had a torn abductor muscle that he suffered early in the bout.

The Crowd At RAW: “Co-sign on the great live audience for RAW Monday night made up of many Northeast American fans and, of course, many from out of the country especially from the UK among other countries.”

Fandango Getting Over: “Not shocked, I wrote about it here multiple times, that Fandango had a solid outing with the great @IAmJericho Chris Jericho at WM29 notwithstanding the point that Jericho’s retaliation on Fandango Monday night on RAW was pure textbook. Young wrestlers need to take note of Jericho’s unbridled passion And realism in getting a piece of Fandango on RAW. The Fandango buzz is intriguing and it will last as long as his in ring performances hold up positively to his controversial TV persona.”

Ryback Attacking John Cena on RAW: “Loved how RAW went off the air Monday night, @Ryback22 standing tall over John Cena. Is Ryback a newly minted villain? Not so fast there knee jerkers. I think that the fans will make that call and perhaps even more people will boo John Cena that have previously as Ryback obviously, as he should, has his sights set on the WWE Title and a top spot within WWE.”

Ryback Comments On Cena Attack – Is He A Heel?

Monday’s RAW ended with Ryback confronting (and laying out) new WWE Champion John Cena. Ryback tweeted the following message about the attack:

https://twitter.com/Ryback22/statuses/322176210832596992

Based on what we saw on RAW, it’s still unclear whether Ryback has actually turned heel or is just solidifying himself as the #1 contender. However – based on a match WWE is booking for next week’s WWE RAW taping from the Bi Lo Center in Greensville, South Carolina, it appears Ryback could in fact be a heel.

The arena is advertising WWE Champion John Cena & Alberto Del Rio vs. Ryback and World Heavyweight champion Dolph Ziggler for the show. It’s likely that the match will take place as the dark match main event after RAW goes off the air.

Also advertised for RAW is the return of CM Punk, who will address his loss to The Undertaker at WrestleMania.

  • DISCUSSION: What do you think about Ryback being a heel? Does his attack on John Cena turn him “bad” – and do you think his character could be better off as a heel? Comment below.

Mark Henry Not Done With Ryback, WM29 Winners Speak To WWE.com

WWE.com spoke to many of the Superstars who competed at Sunday’s WrestleMania 29 pay-per-view shortly after their matches. Here are some highlights of what they said:

– World Heavyweight champion Alberto Del Rio said his match against Jack Swagger was the hardest match of his career. Zeb Colter said he and Jack Swagger are not finished with Del Rio. Del Rio and Swagger are rumored to be facing each other again at Extreme Rules in a submission match.

– Following his impressive win over Ryback. Mark Henry says he has a lot more respect for him after taking the Shellshocked. That said – “somebody’s going to get their ass kicked” and he has more to feed Ryback.

– Fandango did not have much to say after his WWE debut win over Chris Jericho, but wrote “10? on a piece of paper and said that’s how he’s feeling right now.

– New Intercontinental Champion The Miz was greeted by members of the New Jersey National Guard after returning backstage and dedicated his win to his awesome “Mizfits.”

Ryback Hypes His Match With Mark Henry & Talks About His Biggest Goal In WWE

Ryback spoke with Chad Dukes of 106.7 The Fan while at WrestleMania Axxess. Here are some highlights:

His Match with Mark Henry:

“No doubt in my mind that I can get him up. I think at the end of the night, when it’s all said and done, people are going to remember coming out of WrestleMania 29 is Ryback picking up Mark Henry over his head, marching around the ring, and 75,000 plus screaming, ‘Feed Me More.'”

His Biggest Goal In WWE:

“It’s to take over the #1 position from John Cena and take over the company and I’m not shy about saying it. John, I respect him more than anyone, he’s a very hard working individual. He’s been on top for 8-10 years now and he’s been untouchable. I am the one guy that can touch him and I believe I can outsell him on merchandise, and I can do things he has not yet done.”

Plans For John Cena, Ryback Dolph Ziggler & More After WrestleMania 29

– WWE officials have discussed having John Cena and Ryback feud over the WWE Championship after WrestleMania. Cena eliminated Ryback to win the 2013 Royal Rumble and Ryback got “screwed” out of the WWE title several times in late 2012 (Brad Maddox, The Shield) during matches against then-champion CM Punk, so Ryback going after a WWE Champion John Cena would certainly make sense.

– Aside from WWE United States Champion Antonio Cesaro not having a match at Sunday’s WrestleMania show, another champion without a match is WWE Divas champion Kaitlyn. There has been talk of Kaitlyn and AJ Lee being added to the tag team title match, with Kaitlyn joining Team Hell No and AJ joining Dolph Ziggler joining Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston’s team – with all titles on the line.

Whether or not Kaitlyn and AJ Lee are added to the match, the faction of AJ, Dolph Ziggler & Big E Langston are due for a big push coming out of WrestleMania.

Ryback Hypes His Match With Mark Henry & Says He Was A Huge Razor Ramon Fan

Ryback spoke with NorthJersey.com this week to promote WrestleMania 29. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His Leg Injury Being The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Him:
“Deep down in my heart I knew I couldn’t do what I needed to do with the name ‘Skip Sheffield. It’s a dopey name. It’s not a name that the general public will get behind, no matter what I’m doing out there. So being away for a year-and-a-half and coming back under my own terms was a blessing in disguise.”

Being a Part of WrestleMania This Year:

“Last year, I was sitting there watching in the stands as I was coming back from a big injury, and it was kind of still up in the air what we were going to do with [my character]. I was remaining positive, but I told myself last year ‘this was the last one that I’m sitting out [and] I’m going to be a part of the rest of them.’ It was such a horrible feeling not being a part of it.”

His WrestleMania 29 match against Mark Henry:

“You’re going to see two monsters going out there and it’s going to be a match unlike any other match on the card. I think at the end of the day it’s going to be a match people remember; Ryback lifting Mark Henry over his head Shell Shocking him and 70,000 plus screaming at the top of their lungs ‘Feed Me More’ with me.”

Who He Was A Fan of Growing Up:

“Shawn [Michaels] and Bret [Hart], I love. Those two, I didn’t know why I liked them, but I loved them growing up and now I obviously know why they were so good. Razor Ramon was actually my favorite for quite sometime. There was just something about [the character]. The reason I do that ‘finish it’ [taunt] with my arms is because, if you remember, Razor Ramon would always kind of fire it up and throw his arms out.”

Ryback Hypes WrestleMania & Talks Goldberg Comparisons

Ryback joined 4th & Pain this weekend on 106.7 The Fan, co-hosted by Redskins defensive end Adam Carriker and former wrestling announcer Chuck Carroll.

Ryback talked about his forthcoming match with Mark Henry at WrestleMania. When asked, he said he thought he could take him in an arm wrestling contest.

As far as the Goldberg comparisons, Ryback thinks the chants of “Goldberg” have fallen off a bit from when he first debuted and that only a few smart mouths in the stands will start it now. He says fans yelling “feed me more” have overtaken the Goldberg chants.

Ryback isn’t bothered by the comparisons and actually thinks it’s a positive thing. Ryback says he likes Goldberg a lot. He says he’s done something similar to Goldberg’s streak in this era, but acknowledges they are two completely different entities.

He also talked about his stint as a high school football and baseball player.

Believe it or not, he was a kicker in addition to being a halfback, fullback and middle linebacker.

4th & Pain is the only pro wrestling show hosted by an NFL player and a former wrestling announcer, turned weight loss champion, Chuck Carroll. It airs weekends on 106.7 The Fan in Washington, DC and weekdays at noon on 4thAndPain.com.

Ryback Talks About How Tough It Is Being A Superstar & WrestleMania 29

WWE superstar Ryback recently spoke with PressofAtlanticCity.com to promote the upcoming WWE Supershow event from AC on March 30th and of course, WrestleMania 29. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

How Tough It Is Being A WWE Superstar:

“I grew up playing baseball and football, and I was very successful at both of those. I’ve seen guys come in and try to do this and mentally and physically fall apart instantly. It is by far the hardest thing I’ve done in my life –– the things we put our bodies through in a day-in and day-out basis and the injuries we suffer.”

“Anybody who questions the legitimacy of WWE, that’s all you need to know. I literally broke my ankle in three places, and I kept running as my foot dangled and finished the match, whereas one of the premier NFL player fractures his ankle in one place, and goes down and he’s done. The injuries are real, and the emotions we bring out are real –– it’s the best form of entertainment that money can buy.”

WrestleMania 29:

“WrestleMania is the biggest event of the year for us. It’s something you’ve got to see in person to see how magnificent it is. It’s the culmination of a year of hard work. You’ve got the biggest matches and angles going into one night. It’s a lot of fun –– a lot of excitement. You pack in anywhere from 50-, 60-, 70,000 people in an outside arena and it’s just something you’ve got to see.”

Ryback News, Stephanie Tweets Vince Quote, Fandango

– The expected Ryback vs. Mark Henry match at WrestleMania 29 is being presented to give Ryback a big win against a tough opponent. While talk of a Ryback heel turn has died down in recent weeks, WWE is determined to build him back up after several high-profile PPV losses and his failure to capture the WWE Championship from CM Punk.
