Sammy Guevara Reportedly Rejected Planned Storyline In Impact Wrestling

Sammy Guevara was reportedly sent home from the recent Impact tapings in Nashville. According to a report from Slam Wrestling, Guevara rejected a storyline that would have seen the 27-year-old debut in the promotion.

Chris Jericho is said to have come up with an idea for Guevara to appear in Impact Wrestling. This would take place after he quit the Inner Circle on Dynamite. Guevara, however, is said to have contacted Impact directly with complaints about the creative direction. Impact then contacted Jericho and Tony Khan about Guevara’s comments. It’s not known what Guevara’s complaints were or what he said to Impact.

It doesn’t appear as though Jericho was happy about whatever Guevara said to Impact, however. Jericho is then said to have reached out to his longtime friend, Don Callis, about “banning Guevara” from the premises. Jericho is then believed to have sent Guevara a text instructing him to head home and not attend the tapings in Nashville.

    *Update*

The issue was covered recently on an episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.

“AEW and Impact are still working together. From an AEW standpoint, there’s not any heat on Sammy for what he did. From the Impact side, I’m sure there is. That’s just what the deal is,” said Dave Meltzer.

There had been speculation amongst fans online that Guevara could turn up in Impact Wrestling. Evidently, there were plans for this to happen at one point.

At the conclusion of last night’s No Surrender broadcast, Impact announced that NJPW Juice Robinson and David Finlay are coming to the promotion. Private Party and Matt Hardy have been in Impact for the last month. Kenny Omega frequently appeared on the show throughout December and January.

Details On What To Expect From Elite Deletion at AEW Full Gear

At Full Gear on November 7th, 2020, Matt Hardy and Sammy Guevara’s feud will continue with an Elite Deletion match. According to comments made recently on Wrestling Observer Radio, this will be a cinematic match taped ahead of time.

“This will be a cinematic match,” said Dave Meltzer on the show. “I don’t know if they are going to do it at the Hardy compound, I didn’t ask. But I know that it’s going to be a taped match and it’s not going live.”

The feud between Guevara and Hardy has been somewhat plagued by injuries. Hardy was busted up on an episode of Dynamite after Guevara tossed a heavy chair at his head. Then at the All Out PPV, Hardy was knocked unconcisous after both wrestlers jumped off a lift through a table. The match was re-started after Hardy was cleared to continue.

“I know that the original idea was to do it at Hardy’s house,” Meltzer continued. “I don’t know that they are or they’re not, I haven’t asked that one yet. That was the plan for this feud going back to March. At the beginning, they couldn’t do it there. So, that may be what this is, the plan they always had and finally getting to do this match.”

“Hardy and Sammy Guevara at the Hardy Compound was an idea that they had dating back well before the pandemic,” he continued. “The idea of them doing a cinematic match was always planned.”

Sammy Guevara Reveals What He Pitched For Stadium Stampede

All Elite Wrestling’s Sammy Guevara has shared the pitch he made for Double or Nothing’s Stadium Stampede matchup. The bout saw Guevara’s Inner Circle stable compete against The Elite and Matt Hardy.

Guevara recently joined Tony Schiavone and Aubrey Edwards on AEW’s official podcast, UnrestrictedDuring their conversation, Sammy Guevara explained how he repeatedly text AEW President Tony Khan expressing his interest in jumping off the stadium.

“The stadium is like 200 feet or something like that. I think he thought I was joking so I texted him again and said I was serious. They got this stunt coordinator. We were only approved for 40 feet, so the stadium was out of the question.”

Sammy Guevara explained how he wanted to do a “cool flip or dive” at first. The idea slowly evolved into him receiving a Canadian Destroyer before finally settling on Kenny Omega’s One-Winged Angel.

He detailed how it was raining during the entire filming process. They would finally start preparing for his spot at about 5 A.M.

“Kenny and I were standing up there and I was thinking, this is the way I go. This is it for me. It’s the last thing of the match,” Guevara explained. “We’ve been up forever and of course, it’s raining and wet. I remember being up there and looking down and thinking if this is it, I had a good run. It was a scary moment.”

Despite their best efforts, The Inner Circle would lose the matchup to Matt Hardy and The Elite after Guevara took the One-Winged Angel from Omega.

Sammy Guevara Reportedly Receives Heat Backstage After Matt Hardy Chair Spot

Inner Circle member Sammy Guevara reportedly received heat backstage within AEW following this week’s episode of Dynamite after a steel chair spot went awry. Guevara accidentally busted Matt Hardy open during their segment. Hardy would subsequently need 13 stitches to close the wound.

According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, two chairs were placed at ringside. The spot was meant to see Guevara hurl a traditional folding chair. Hardy would have then blocked it with his hands.

Unfortunately, Guevara was allegedly unable to find the folding chair. So, in the moment, he grabbed a heavier chair nearby before throwing it at Hardy, busting him open.

This situation led Guevara to reportedly receive backstage heat as a lot of people within AEW were upset with Hardy’s injury. The Inner Circle member was said to have been given a “very stern talking to” when he went backstage.

Hardy acknowledged the injury via social media, thanking Dr. Sampson and AEW’s medical team for their swift assistance to fix the “gaping hole” on his face. He also promised Guevara that a “receipt” is coming his way.

Sammy Guevara recently returned to AEW Dynamite after serving a suspension for previous comments regarding WWE Superstar Sasha Banks.

Tony Khan Comments On Lifting Sammy Guevara’s AEW Suspension

Sammy Guevara made a surprise return to All Elite Wrestling at the conclusion of this week’s AEW Dynamite. It was his first appearance on AEW television in over a month. Guevara was suspended without pay on June 22nd when an inappropriate joke he made about Sasha Banks several years ago resurfaced.

AEW President Tony Khan spoke to Sports Illustrated this week about his decision to lift Guevara’s suspension. The Spanish God underwent four weeks of extensive sensitivity training where he learned about tolerance, race relations and gender issues.

“Sammy was off television for a month and suspended without pay for 30 days. I think it was the right time for Sammy to come back because he’s shown that he’s very sorry and that he can change. He’s spent every day over the past month trying to prove that.”

In addition to undergoing vigorous sensitivity training, one month of Sammy Guevara’s salary was donated to the Women’s Center of Jacksonville.

Tony Khan feels Guevara did his best to turn around a bad situation by improve himself and making a positive impact in the Jacksonville community.

“I think Sammy was very happy to have an opportunity to apologize, publicly and privately, and do something to turn a terrible comment he made into something positive.”

Next week on AEW Dynamite, the reunited Inner Circle will battle Orange Cassidy, Best Friends and the Jurassic Express in a 10-man tag team match.

Cody Rhodes Comments On Sammy Guevara’s Suspension

All Elite Wrestling’s Executive Vice President and in-ring talent Cody Rhodes has commented on the recent Sammy Guevara controversy that came to light. Guevara has been suspended from AEW without pay and will undergo sensitivity training after he came under fire for comments he made about Sasha Banks on a podcast back in 2016.

Responding to a fan on Twitter, Cody Rhodes addressed the situation after being asked to reinstate Guevara. The AEW TNT Champion stated:

“Sammy will return. And he will be a better professional wrestler, and a better man when he does.”

    Sammy Guevara Apologizes

Since the clip of Guevara’s comments surfaced, the Inner Circle member released an apology video addressing his statements. He acknowledged that he has grown as a person over the past four years and would be taking a break from social media:

“I just want to apologize to anybody I let down, to Sasha, to anybody I hurt with my words.”

Guevara continued, “It just sucks cause 2016 me is not me today. 2020 me would never say those kind of hurtful things that I did in 2016. I used to think it was funny to do some kind of shock humor to pop the room I’m in. I thought it would be funny to do that kind of humour, shock humour and it’s not.”

He stated how some people may be dubious over his statement. For them, four years may not be that much time for genuine change. He argued that so much has happened in his life as wrestling allowed him to travel the world and grow as a person. Guevara stressed he now understands the words he says can have an impact on people. He promised to never joke or take sexual assault lightly again.

Sasha Banks would speak with Sammy Guevara about his words. She explained how the two had an open discussion. Banks stressed how “the comments he made, jokingly or not, have absolutely no place in our society!”

Sammy Guevara was suspended without pay for an undetermined amount of time by AEW recently. Guevara came under fire for comments he made about Sasha Banks on a podcast in 2016. Additionally, Guevara will undergo sensitivity training.

Guevara released a new video on YouTube recently. In the video, he went into further detail regarding his regret concerning the situation. He talked about growing as a person over the last four years and taking a break from social media.

“There is going to be no vlog today and there’s going to be no vlog for a while. I’m going to take a hiatus from social media, in general. I just want to apologize to anybody I let down, to Sasha, to anybody I hurt with my words.”

“It just sucks cause 2016 me is not me today. 2020 me would never say those kind of hurtful things that I did in 2016. I used to think it was funny to do some kind of shock humor to pop the room I’m in.”

“I thought it would be funny to do that kind of humour, shock humour and it’s not.”

“A lot has happened in four years of my life. I know a lot of people think four years is not that much time but if you look at how much has happened to me in my life from wrestling in the middle of nowhere in Texas, to wrestling all around the world, to wrestling in different countries, to wrestling on TV for AEW. So much has happened to me in four years and one of the thing’s that’s happened is me growing as a person.”

Guevara continued to say that he now understands the words he says can have an impact on people. He also said he’ll never say stuff like that again.

“Whenever I do come back, I will be better. I’m going to do sensitivity training and I’m going to be a better version of myself.”

Sasha Banks Releases Statement On Sammy Guevara’s Comments

Sasha Banks has released a statement on the recent controversy surrounding comments made by Sammy Guevara on a podcast from 2016. Guevara made a comment/joke making light of sexual assault on the show. Guevara took to social media to apologize for the comment earlier today.

Based on comments made by both Guevara and Banks, it appears the two have spoken.

    Banks released the following statement:

“Earlier I spoke with Sammy, he apologized and we had an open discussion. Words like the comments he made, jokingly or not, have absolutely no place in our society! I don’t condone or tolerate this kind of behaviour. What one thinks is just a side comment can have a massive impact on someone else’s life, and can send the wrong message.

We have to hold ourselves accountable for our actions and the words we say, and I hope this situation shows him that. I hope from this point on, ignorer for growth and change within our community to take place, we all can continue to have these conversations. No person, man, woman, or child should ever be subjected to a feeling of fear, or any unsafe environment. We all have to do better not just for ourselves, but for generations to come.

    Sincerely,
    Mercedes Varnado”

Sammy Guevara Comments On Taking Superkick In Battle Royal Last Week

Sammy Guevara attempted to interfere during the tag team battle royale on AEW Dynamite last week. He took a rather painful-looking superkick from Matt Jackson for his trouble, however. Guevara took to his YouTube vlog to comment on the spot. He noted that he ended up rolling his ankle when taking the move.

“So last night, I took a pretty nasty superkick and I actually ended up rolling my ankle,” Guevara said on the vlog. He then read some comments posted on Instagram about the spot.

“So I don’t know if I’m going to be able to wrestle in Australia,” Guevara continued to say about an upcoming booking.

“I took a superkick to the face and rolled my ankle, how is that even possible?” Guevara continued.

Guevara also visited with Jack Evans in the video who expressed that someone may have drugged his milk and that is why he did not win the battle royal. Guevara and Marko Stunt then attempted to convince each other they don’t hate one another. He finally ended the video by noting it was noon and he hadn’t been kicked out of his hotel yet.

Former WWE Superstar Luke Harper is seen in a recently posted Instagram photo by All Elite Wrestling star and member of Chris Jericho-led Inner Circle, Sammy Guevara.

Harper and Guevara attended an event before the match organized by indie fed GCWA. The event, dubbed “Pro Wrestling Night” featured matches outside the American Bank Center prior to the hockey game. Harper and Guevara were both part of the ceremonial puck drop as well as a meet and greet.

AEW Executive VP Cody Rhodes is a fan of Harper and thinks he would make a great fit in AEW. In an interview, Rhodes was asked about Luke Harper, and this is what he said:
“He would be great as part of AEW. He’s a name that when you hear they’ve asked for their release, you definitely think about that and the next steps, for sure. I think he’s going to flourish with what he does next, he’s very special.”

Luke Harper was released on December 8, 2019, as he requested to be let go. He previously asked for a release back in April last year but he was denied. According to reports, Harper along with other names who were released during the time, are under a 90 days non compete clause and they can’t make TV appearances during this time. This means Luke Harper will only be able to join a major promotion after March 8, 2020.

Harper seems to be already preparing for a return as he recently applied to trademark his former wrestling ring name of Brodie Lee on November 26, 2019. The last time the 39-year-old used Brodie Lee as his ring name was in a match against BJ Whitmer on a Dragon Gate USA show in November 2011.

  • SCU Retain AEW Tag Team Titles Over Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara

SCU Retain AEW Tag Team Titles Over Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara

Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara are not the new AEW Tag Team Champions as SCU remains on top.

The AEW World Heavyweight Champion and highly praised prospect failed to capture the gold when they lost to SCU in a non-title match on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT.

If Jericho and Guevara would’ve won then not only did it mark the second set of champions in the history of the titles but also that The Inner Circle would’ve held all of the male titles in the promotion at the moment. That wasn’t the case though.

SCU (Kazarian and Scorpio Sky) won the titles when the promotion held the finals of the Tag Team Title Tournament on the October 30th episode of AEW Dynamite in Charleston, WV at the Charleston Coliseum. SoCal Uncensored beat The Lucha Bros to win the titles.

SCU just made their previous title defense, which was at the AEW Full Gear pay-per-view event from the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland over the weekend.

This is where they beat Private Party and Lucha Brothers in a Triple Threat Match.

Also, at this show, Jericho successfully retained the AEW World Title over Cody Rhodes in the co-main event when he had Rhodes in the Walls of Jericho and MJF threw in the towel.

  • Booker T Compares Sammy Guevara To A Young Eddie Guerrero

Booker T Compares Sammy Guevara To A Young Eddie Guerrero

Booker T spoke about Sammy Guevara on his podcast recently and offered a large amount of praise for the 26-year-old. Guevara is from the Houston area and trained at Booker’s Reality of Wrestling school before making his pro-debut in 2013.

During the show, Booker compares Sammy Guevara with a young Eddie Guerrero and says the comparison is a good fit.

“When you look at Sammy, he’s a good looking kid, he really is. And he can really perform at such a young age. And that’s what I look at most about this young kid. That was his debut match going out there in front of the world and doing such an awesome job and letting the world see, ‘hey, man. This kid is pretty good. We got our eyes on him.’ So no, I don’t think it’s too early to be saying something like that about Sammy.”

Booker then asked his co-host Brad about what he thinks about the comparison.

“It’s a big comparison to make about anybody but the comparison isn’t he reminds me of Eddie Guerrero it’s that he reminds me of a young Eddie Guerrero.”

Booker continued to say he thinks Sammy Guevara and a young Eddie Guerrero is a good comparison.

“As well as good as Eddie was when he was that young,” Booker continued. “Because that tells a story as far as how good one is gonna be when you see him when they first get in the ring.”

“So, yeah. Sammy and the comparison, I think it’s actually a pretty good comparison.”

Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara To Challenge For Tag Titles On Dynamite

Shortly after the conclusion of AEW Full Gear last night in Baltimore, both Chris Jericho and AEW President Tony Khan told media there would be a tag-team title match this Wednesday on Dynamite. Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara will take on SCU for the belts.

Tony Khan confirmed the match last night during the Full Gear post-event media scrum.

“This week on Dynamite, it will be Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara versus Scorpio Sky and Kazarian for the tag team titles and we’ll see if the Inner Circle can take all the championships in AEW and it was big for Chris, it was a big night, it was his birthday. For him to lay down the challenge, I think SCU wants the match and that’s a huge match for Dynamite,” Tony Khan said.

Also during his post-event media scrum, Jericho took issue with the AEW tag team rankings, noting he and Sammy Guevara are undefeated when teaming together.

“I think that the rankings for the tag team division is a bunch of s**t because Sammy Guevara and Chris Jericho are undefeated as a tag team and we’re not even in the top-5,” Jericho said.

Khan would also confirm that another match between Hangman Page and PAC will take place on this week’s Dynamite.

“Hangman Page came in and he wants a rubber match with PAC and the last time they were in the scrum it went very differently,” Khan said regarding the match. “Even though he won tonight and a lot of people thought he’d feel like he settled it, he feels like there’s unsettled business so that’s definitely going to be another huge match on Dynamite.”

Cody Rhodes has opened up on the importance of his next match that takes place before the next AEW pay-per-view event.

The AEW Vice President took part in a conference call on Tuesday ahead of AEW Dynamite.

During the call, he discussed his match with Sammy Guevara. He tried to get over the potential implications that it could have at the Full Gear show.

“I would like to make it clear, that if Sammy Guevara beats me, I’m not going to Full Gear to wrestle Chris Jericho, by no means. Sammy Guevara will be able to take my place if he wins on the first episode of Dynamite. So, the stakes are high.”

Rhodes is slated to challenge Jericho for the AEW World Title at the pay-per-view event. This is part of AEW taking wins and losses seriously.

AEW presents Full Gear on Saturday, November 9th from Baltimore’s Royal Farms Arena. The show will air on B/R Live, which is Bleacher Report’s streaming service, traditional PPV outlets, and FITE TV in international markets.

  • AEW’s Sammy Guevara Reflects On Getting Into Wrestling, Advice Received From Booker T

AEW’s Sammy Guevara Reflects On Getting Into Wrestling, Advice Received From Booker T

All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) Sammy Guevara has been trying to make a name for himself within the promotion. In a recent interview with CatchClub, Guevara reflected on when he first found a passion for pro wrestling and the advice he received from WWE Hall of Famer Booker T ahead of his first-ever match.

He first started watching pro wrestling between 2005 and 2006 after a neighbour told him to turn on SmackDown. Guevara recalled initially pushing back on the idea, “I was like, ‘No man, it’s not really my thing, I’m not going to watch it.’ But he told me ‘Trust me, it’s really awesome, watch it!’ So I turned it on and saw MNM vs Rey Mysterio and Batista, in a steel cage match. Ever since then I was like, ‘This is amazing, I’m going to do this when I’m older!’”

He listed Jeff Hardy, Chris Benoit, and Rey Mysterio as some of his favorite wrestlers, adding that he’s been lucky enough to wrestle against Mysterio.

“[…] to be able to wrestle him 10 years after I started watching wrestling was amazing. It just goes to show you that life can take you to very strange and very cool places. You just got to keep going and keep working hard, and you never know what’s going to happen.”

    Booker T’s Advice

When he had his very first match, he was fortunate enough to be given some solid advice from Booker T:

“Before I had my first match ever, Booker T told me, ‘Look, the worst thing that is going to happen out there is you’re going to mess up. And if that’s the worst thing that is going to happen to you, life is going to be OK. The world keeps going, you know.’ And so I always remember that from time to time when I get nervous.”

At the time of writing, Sammy Guevara has picked up a tag team victory in AEW alongside MJF and Shawn Spears. He lost to Kip Sabian during AEW’s Buy In show ahead of their Double or Nothing pay-per-view.

Sammy Guevara Talks Signing With AEW & The Wednesday Night Wars

Sammy Guevara wrestled in the first official AEW match when he took on Kip Sabian on the Double or Nothing pre-show. He’s booked for a match on the first episode of AEW on TNT against Cody as well. Guevara recently sat down with Chris Van Vliet and talked about how he found out he’ll be wrestling Cody next month and the upcoming Wednesday night wars.

Guevara had the following to say when the topic of NXT and AEW both airing TV shows on Wednesday nights was mentioned:

“That made me laugh so much because at Double or Nothing, when Moxley came down and started beating everybody up maybe it was when he was standing on the chip and it was over with, I was standing next to Kylie Rae and we’re just watching it and I’m like ‘isn’t this crazy? We’re a part of this’ and then she’s like ‘yeah, this is f’n nuts,’” Guevara said. “I don’t know, man, to be a fan and say I want to do this and to be doing it and then to now be in one of the biggest companies right now and they’re about to go head-to-head with friggin WWE/NXT whatever, it’s wild. Another example for nothing is impossible.”

    Sammy Guevara Interview Highlights

Guevara also commented on how he was contacted by AEW.

“I was in Japan,” Guevara said regarding the time when AEW was officially unveiled back in January. “So, the press conference happened, right? And I saw all the people that were there and I was like ‘damn, I feel like they are going to reach out to me.’ They hadn’t yet, I had one conversation with one of the members of the upper tier guys at a show and he asked me what I was doing mid-January and I was like ‘oh, I’m going to be in Japan.’ Mid-January was the first press conference, this is back in October before that. And so, I think he was going to ask me to be there but I was in Japan so we just dropped it and started talking about something else. I didn’t think about it until later. So I’m in Japan, that happens and I go to sleep. I wake up in the morning and I get a DM on Twitter and it’s like ‘what’s your contract status?”

Sammy Guevara On Why He Likes Pandas

Guevara also commented on why pandas have become part of his wrestling persona.

“It’s my favorite animal, favorite animal, so I just kind of incoporate things that I like into my wrestling,” he said. “Like my old theme song, I am Jesus, is from one of my favorite movies which is ‘Get him to the Greek.’ There was a lot of fake songs they made for that movie and I am Jesus is one of them. I was like ‘I want this to be my theme song!’ So I come out to TripleMania with that song.”

“The’re chill, right?” he continued. “They eat bamboo, they’re just chilling but they’re a bear, so if you mess with it, it’s going to kill you. I feel like, that’s me. I’m a chill dude but get in the ring with me, I’m not a chill dude no more.”

    Rush To Make MLW Debut

“Arena Mexico’s greatest sensation Rush will finally arrive in what should be a fantastic fight as he takes on the talented Guevara, who himself is an accomplished luchador having won championship gold in Mexico and beyond,” an MLW press release reads.
Rush’s Los InGobernables won the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s award for the best gimmick in 2017.
“A known brawler, the charismatic Rush will look to showcase his talents against the Houston high flyer Guevara.  If Guevara can shutdown Rush in his debut, the impact will be felt all the way to Mexico City.  No stranger to high-pressure matches, Rush has promised to show Chicago what the founder of Los Ingobernables is all about at Cicero Stadium.”
It’s been a huge year for MLW. The recently re-launched promotion already has a television deal with BeIn Sports for Friday nights. They also post full episodes to their YouTube channel every Saturday.
“Both men represent MLW’s reloaded roster as the league looks to 2019 and beyond with some key fresh match-ups.  This is the first of many exciting encounters you can expect from both in MLW.”
