Tyson Kidd Injury Update, WWE Trying To Keep Talent Injuries A Secret?

As we reported earlier this week, it is believed that Tyson Kidd suffered an injury during his match with Samoa Joe prior to Monday’s edition of WWE RAW.

The injury, believed to be a spinal injury, resulted in Kidd needing medical attention immediately after the match was over.

WWE apparently has a new policy of keeping injuries somewhat of a secret if they can, with the mindset being that if the knowledge of how long a star is injured and on the sidelines gets out, it will ruin the surprise factor of when and where the talent will be returning.

While there are no specific details on Kidd’s injury, it is said that this is a case of WWE trying to keep the details quiet. We can confirm that Kidd is hoping to avoid surgery and expects to eventually make a full recovery.

Jeff Jarrett On GFW TV Tapings, How They Will Be Different From Other Shows

Global Force Wrestling founder Jeff Jarrett recently appeared as a guest on the v2 Wrestling podcast to talk about a number of topics. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On booking certain talents from other promotions: “It’s going to be very interesting. Scheduling is going to be a unique set of circumstances but it’s all part of the business and, quite frankly, it does excite me because when you don’t have the same wrestlers show after show, it gives it a sense of freshness and a sense of anything can happen. It harkens me back to many moons ago and as time rolls on, when you have certain members of the roster come and go back in the Attitude Era. It was who’s going to show up on Nitro and I want to see who they’re going to wrestle. So I believe it brings a real sense of what’s going to happen next and who’s going to show up next, and I think that brings excitement to the fans.”

On how many shows is GFW going to tape in Las Vegas: “It’s a work in progress. Jim Ross wrote online a couple of weeks ago and talked about 13 one-hour episodes, and that’s one of probably three to four options that we have. I also read another blog that said we’re going to do three 3-hour specials on the three Fridays that we’re there in July, August and October. Then I heard even crazier that we’re going to do a live 3-hour special. So there’s a lot of options on the table. The uniqueness of this is that the best decision has to be made not only for the United States market but for our international discussions as well. We are global; we set out to do that from Day 1 to be a global brand and I’m going to stand behind it. I want this content that we’re going to shoot to be seen by as many eyeballs as they possibly can, so that factors into the decision in multiple ways.”

On his approach to storylines in GFW: “A lot of people ask, How are you going to be different? In Global Force Wrestling, it goes without saying that there are storylines in professional wrestling. We don’t want to write stories, we want to document them. Because every professional wrestler truly has a story behind their life, has a story behind where they’ve come from. To me, the storylines have already started, if you want to call it that. There’s talent coming from countries from around the world and the story is they’re going to be on the first ever Global Force Wrestling show, and there’s a pretty unique set of circumstances in and up to that.”

On his vision compared to other promotions: “I am a professional wrestler, but those days are coming to a halt and I’m much more of a promoter nowadays. We all have a story on how we got to where we’re at and why we want to do what we do. Why do we want to professional wrestle? What makes us tick? Do we want to become champion? What does our girlfriend, wife or kids think about it and what are the hardships we go through in our daily lives? That’s real, and that’s what I believe the fanbase wants to dial into because we’re all so much more connected than we were years ago. You know what I did yesterday probably better than I did because of the world of social media.”

On if he talked to Samoa Joe about joining GFW: “Me and Joe, how long has our relationship been, 10 years? We continue to have text exchanges. What a unique talent if you remember when he came in to TNA – he had a real streak and success abroad. He knew where he was headed, and I couldn’t be happier for the guy because he’s going to show the world that he’s going to kill ’em [in WWE]. I think his biggest and brightest days are in front of him and it’s going to come a lot quicker than the world thought. He was never on the table [for GFW], ever.”

On who to look out for on the GFW roster: “Andrew Everett and Chuck Taylor are phenomenal talents, The New Heavenly Bodies are very good. The Tate Twins are young kids out of Knoxville; they’ve got a couple of years to go but it’s like every great tag team, whether it’s the Midnight Express or the Rockers, they started somewhere. Everybody that I’m mentioning has one thing in common and that’s sort of the prerequisite to be on a Global Force Wrestling card – and that’s passion. They have a real passion for this business. Thea Trinidad is a girl who started several years ago, lost her father in the tragic 9/11 attacks, and that was her inspiration to become a professional wrestler. Now here we are several years later and she’s coming into her own. All you have to do is go to our website and if you see a name on there that you’re not quite familiar with, put their name in YouTube and you’ll see it. The independent talent pool – the free agent talent pool – is as wide as it’s ever been. I was in the UK several weeks ago and I witnessed it firsthand, so professional wrestling around the globe is very healthy.”

On his thoughts on the future of GFW: “I believe WWE, and I’ve witnessed this firsthand over the last 10 years, they’re the heavyweight. They’re the only heavyweight, quite frankly, in that they have 80-90 percent market share. It is a real uphill battle to create market share. TNA, Ring of Honor, Lucha Underground, New Japan, AAA, House of Hardcore – there’s multiple promotions out there that I believe if we all collectively have a loose working relationship, that we can begin to break into that market share. The fact of the matter is that WWE does sports entertainment and they do it bigger and better than anybody has ever done and ever will do it. Global Force Wrestling is going to focus on being the very best professional wrestling organization that we can possibly become, and be very engaging and interactive on an hourly basis. That’s really our mission statement.”

On if he would consider airing GFW on Wednesdays or a different night: “We live in a world of DVR, in that on demand viewing takes precedent over everything. Ring of Honor is going to be airing a show on Wednesday nights that was seen on syndicated markets three or four days before, and you can see their show online. TNA is airing their show on Wednesday nights. Yes, the live element always trumps all of that but in the world of on demand viewing in North America, specifically the United States having the Wednesday night battle, it’s a much bigger world than that. Do I have a preference for a night? Not really. I don’t think it would make a lot of sense to go on Wednesday nights, unless it’s in a block. That’s where I think Ring of Honor and TNA are going to help each other, because a rising tide raises all the ships. But that’s a three hour block so you add another hour and that’s four hours and that may be a little too long. I don’t think it really matters but if you’re nailing me down to one night, I would say Tuesday.”

On his plans for TV or online distribution: “We have had discussions with multiple streaming services with obviously many, many networks in trying to fit the very best fit. The world has changed. Netflix, specifically House of Cards, is a real game changer in how successful it is. There are 62 million people and growing that pay 10 bucks a month for Netflix, and that’s just one of the streaming services. So cable television in the United States is at a real crossroads because premium, compelling content with compelling characters has never been more prevalent, specifically live event programming. So it’s an exciting time to really look at all the different options for distribution.”

On a potential UK expansion: “I had a very exciting call last Thursday morning specifically about the UK, that’s all I’m going to tell you. Obviously it’s a massive, very educated professional wrestling market. If you’re launching a brand you cannot ignore the United Kingdom when it comes to professional wrestling.”

Update On Samoa Joe’s ROH Status, Kevin Owens’ “Open Challenge” Rumor Killer

As reported, Samoa Joe has signed a full-time deal with WWE. Joe will, however, still be fulfilling his advertised independent bookings.

Ring Of Honor confirmed that Joe will still be working their June 20th television taping in New York City, in what will likely be his final appearance with ROH.

Additionally, Joe has been added to the Absolute Intense Wrestling event in Cleveland, Ohio on July 10th. Joe is also booked to work the big NXT live events this month in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Columbus, Ohio.

For those wondering, Joe is not currently booked to appear at the WWE SmackDown television taping tonight. So unless things change, Joe will not be the person to answer Kevin Owens’ “Open Challenge.”

Backstage Update On Samoa Joe Signing A Full-Time Deal With WWE

As we reported on Monday night, WWE officials were so impressed with Samoa Joe’s merchandise sales that Vince McMahon and Triple H personally pushed for him to sign a full-time deal with WWE.

It is now confirmed that Joe indeed signed a full-time contract with WWE, which is part of the reason he was at RAW last night, defeating Tyson Kidd in a dark match that took place prior to RAW going on the air.

Aside from the success of Joe’s merchandise sales and his NXT performances, the fact that his appearances for Ring Of Honor will be airing on national cable television also played a part in the decision to sign him to a full-time deal.

Joe’s original NXT deal reportedly had a clause in it that would allow WWE to sign him to a full-time deal if they chose to. WWE decided to execute that clause this past Thursday after ROH and Destination America announced their new deal. Both Joe and WWE signed an addendum to the original contract that now makes him a full-time WWE performer.

Tyson Kidd Injured During Match With Samoa Joe Prior To RAW?

As noted, NXT star Samoa Joe, who reportedly signed a full-time contract with WWE this week, worked a match against Tyson Kidd prior to Monday’s RAW.

According to one live correspondent, it appeared that Kidd suffered an injury towards the end of the match.

Once the match was over, Natalya raced to the back, Cesaro quickly got into the ring and the referee threw up the infamous “X” sign. Kidd was said to be visibly upset leaving the ring, and appeared to be holding his neck/collarbone.

We are awaiting additional details on Kidd’s condition. Make sure to check back for updates.

Jim Ross Blog: Cena-Owens RAW Segment, Stone Cold Podcast, Austin/Lesnar

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross updated his official blog on Tuesday with thoughts on Monday’s RAW, the Stone Cold Podcast with Paul Heyman and more. Below are some of the highlights:

On the John Cena and Kevin Owens RAW promo segment: “Nice verbal interplay between Cena and Owens Monday night on RAW. I’d love to see this develop into a great rivalry but in order for it to happen the villain (Owens) will have to maintain the upper hand until the bottom of the ninth IE the blow off match. Not sure that will happen but I’m certainly interested in going along for the ride. Owens winning at Elimination Chamber was essential and made all the wrestling sense in the world.”

On the Stone Cold Podcast with Paul Heyman: “Enjoyed the Steve Austin-Paul Heyman post RAW edition of the Steve Austin Podcast on the WWE Network and was pleased that WWE extended their time approximately 12 minutes as the two could have easily delivered two, compelling hours of entertainment. It brought back old times when Heyman struck the mean dog with a sharp stick when asking @steveaustinBSR about facing Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania Texas in April of 2016. Great intensity by Austin who flipped the switch into promo mode while talking about the topic that the IWC (Internet Wrestling Community) had to love. My Twitter timeline @JRsBBQ exploded as many fans reacted as if the match had been made and that Steve was firing the opening salvo of the verbal aspect of what would be a record setting main event.”

On Steve Austin vs. Brock Lesnar: “I’d give an educated guess that the odds of an Austin-Lesnar match being held at Wrestlemania Texas as less than 50-50 and likely closer to 65-35 that it won’t happen. I’d love to be wrong but as Austin said “the stars in the sky would all have to be aligned” for that to happen and I don’t see those stars as being fan friendly for the lack of a better expression.”

On Samoa Joe signing full-time contract with WWE: “If true, very strategic of WWE to sign @SamoaJoe to a full time contract with the organization. Joe can work with anyone on the roster in any environment and is a class act who’s a great pro and will be a positive influence to all that he comes in contact with in the locker room.”

Samoa Joe On What Led To Him Signing With WWE, His History With John Cena & More

Samoa Joe recently spoke with the official WWE website about his recent NXT debut, his aspirations in WWE, his history with John Cena and more.

Below are some highlights from the interview.

On signing with WWE: “I’m over the moon. It’s something I never really thought I would have the opportunity to do. To be here now, it’s an unreal feeling.”

On his history with John Cena: “I had the chance to work with John quite a bit in UPW and even beyond that. When John was just getting started, we hung out a lot. Being a trainer at the school, I taught the beginner course. John was the type of guy, who even though he was past the basics, he would come to the beginner class in the morning. I would see him at the advanced class at night, where I would go to get train and improve…”

On whether he thought John Cena would become the star he is today: “I had no doubt. It’s funny, I’ve been asked that before. He didn’t have to come to the beginner class. He didn’t have to come to all the practices. But John came to all of them; he did all of the work and extra work on top of that. He was so laser-focused on becoming a WWE Superstar, much more than anyone else from UPW who had gotten the opportunity to go to WWE at the time. There really wasn’t a question in my mind that he would become the star he is today.”

On what led to him coming to WWE: “I’ve had a great career up to this point. I’d pretty much wrestled everywhere in the world. The one place that eluded me was WWE. I had put out feelers to a few friends and confidants in WWE. They did some probing on my behalf. Slowly, but surely, a small glimmer of hope opened up. Talks progressed and the opportunity presented itself.”

On his WWE goals: “At some time, I would love to make a trip up to the main roster and wreak my brand of havoc. So many people I’ve come up with have succeeded in WWE. Though I thought the opportunity would never present itself, I’m here now. I’m in the best shape of my career and I’m more than happy to fulfill the destiny that has eluded me for far too long, and that’s to be the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.”

Seth Rollins On ROH/Destination America, Samoa Joe In NXT, Lesnar

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins recently spoke with the folks at Digital Spy to promote this Sunday’s WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On his match with Dean Ambrose at Elimination Chamber: “Ambrose is a confident performer, like you said he got a couple of wins under his belt against me, but when the chips are down, always bet on Rollins when it comes to Rollins versus Ambrose. assume he thinks things will be different, but you look at the deck and it’s a little stacked against him. There’s really nobody that performs better in big match situations than me. That’s over the last two, three years, even if you go deeper into my career. Any time it’s a big match and there’s a lot on the line and I’m the guy who needs to hit the home run, I do it. I think Elimination Chamber is another one of those and actually every title match is one of those, and I’m looking forward to it.”

On Kevin Owens coming to the main roster: “No. You know, Kevin’s great. I’ve known Kevin for years and years and years. He’s an excellent talent. There’s a reason The Authority sees big things in him, there’s a reason the WWE Universe sees big things in him. But Kevin Owens is Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. So I’m not terribly concerned at this point in time. I think I earn my keep quite well. Maybe down the line we’ll have to consider other options, but that’s definitely not the case right now.”

On John Cena fading down in his career: “The end of John Cena is an interesting prospect. I think that John has given this company and this industry so much for the last 15 years that it’s gotta be taking its toll on him, physically speaking. He’s not a young man anymore and you get in there with guys like the names you’ve mentioned, all hungry, young, exciting performers with styles that he’s not accustomed to. I think that throws him a little off. He likes that challenge. I know John, he loves a new challenge and he looks forward every day in his whole life. The end of John Cena? I don’t know, but definitely the beginning of a new era in WWE for sure.”

On Brock Lesnar’s return: “The suspension is indefinite, luckily, so we’ll see how long it lasts. But I’m sure Lesnar’s got his eyes set on the prize, I don’t know why he wouldn’t. And I would be glad to give him a rematch, when the time is right. When the situation calls for it. Until then he can sit on the sidelines and enjoy his time at home.”

On ROH going to Destination America: “Great for Ring of Honor. It’s tremendous any time our wrestling industry continues to grow. That’s awesome for them. They were a breeding ground for a lot of talent that now exists [in the WWE]: Kevin Owens, myself, Sami Zayn, obviously Daniel Bryan, Cesaro. They have proven to be a valuable asset when it comes to cultivating great talent as far as moving guys up to the bigger ranks. It’s great – I’m super thrilled for them and I hope they can sustain and hopefully we see more talent coming out of there and into NXT and eventually into WWE. It’s a good time to be a wrestling fan, that’s for sure.”

On Samoa Joe in NXT: “I was very thrilled for Joe. He’s a guy who was an idol of mine growing up, someone I watched when I was in my formative teenage years. He’s someone whose style I emulated when I first started. There’s definitely pieces of Samoa Joe in the Seth Rollins repertoire so it’s cool he’s part of the company now – something you thought you’d never see. Like I say, it creates a lot of super-interesting match-ups, so it’s a great time to be a professional wrestling fan, a great time to be a WWE fan for sure.”

Update On Samoa Joe’s Status With WWE

Samoa Joe’s non-exclusive WWE deal allows him to work outside of WWE at independent shows, such as the Ring Of Honor television taping he is scheduled for on June 20th in New York City, but WWE has priority over his dates, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Joe’s deal with WWE included the new t-shirt he wore at TakeOver, which sold out of its’ initial stock immediately, as well as the rights to his “Samoa Joe” name, particularly because he’s not appearing on the main roster WWE shows.

Additionally, his deal with WWE calls for limited NXT dates. Originally, Joe gave word that he couldn’t take any independent dates after April, a timetable that continued to be pushed back, which figured that his debut in WWE was being delayed. However, he is now taking dates with outside promotions through August of 2015.

Joe’s current deal with WWE basically allows him to work pretty much wherever he wants. Originally, he was looking at starting later in the year with ROH, somewhere around September, but the nature of his unique deal with WWE allowed him to continue working in ROH, so he started looking for new dates going forward, however that has since been moved up, as he’s currently scheduled to work the 6/20 ROH television taping in New York.

It’s also worth mentioning that Joe has recently had talks with officials from New Japan Pro Wrestling. It’s also said that with all of his outside commitments, WWE could end up offering him a full-time deal. The word going around in the industry is that Joe can’t commit to anything full-time from another promotion during his current short-term window. If WWE were to sign him to a full-time deal at any point, it’s said that it would immediately end his working relationship with any other company. Even if that doesn’t happen, the belief is that WWE has first priority on his dates.

Will Samoa Joe Still Be Allowed To Work ROH TV?, More On ROH’s Airings

– Ring Of Honor TV will not only air as the lead-in to TNA Impact Wrestling each Wednesday night on Destination America, but a replay will also air immediately following Impact.

The episodes will premiere on Saturdays on Sinclair affiliates prior to the Wednesday broadcast/replay on Destination America.

– With ROH now airing on cable television, there’s already speculation that WWE will nix his appearances in the promotion. The same rule would likely apply to Rhyno and other talents if they handle the Joe situation that way. Joe is currently booked to appear on the 6/20 edition of ROH TV, teaming with AJ Styles to take on Kazarian and Daniels, however that could change due to ROH’s new deal with Destination America.

Seth Rollins Confirms “Curb Stomp” Is No More (Video), Samoa Joe Hypes Tonight’s NXT

– Samoa Joe is hyping tonight’s edition of NXT on the WWE Network on his official Twitter account. Joe tweeted the following:

– It has been rumored for a while that Seth Rollins’ finishing move — the “Curb Stomp” — has been banned by WWE. During a recent fan Q&A, Rollins was asked if WrestleMania 31 was the last time we will ever see the move, and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion confirmed it. Check out the clip below.

Jim Ross Blog: Vince McMahon’s RAW Promo, Samoa Joe’s WWE Deal, More

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently updated his official website blog with his latest thoughts and comments. Below are some of the highlights.

On Vince McMahon’s RAW promo: “Thought that it was cool that Vince McMahon addressed the live audience in the soon to be closing Nassau Coliseum Monday night. The arena is a big part of the history of WWE and a place that I always enjoyed working. Not sure that I wouldn’t hae had the Fink there to do something, too.”

On Samoa Joe’s WWE deal: “The wrestling media and many in the fan base fascination over Samoa Joe’s ‘contract’ is actually becoming humorous. Is it really that big a story? If the talent is happy and the company’s that are hiring him are happy then what’s the issue other than “I got’s to know?’ I’m ecstatic for @SamoaJoe and feel great things are ahead for him in WWE and if not then someone will have really fumbled in the red zone.”

On TNA and Destination America: “TNA not addressing the rampant TV rumors of their relationship with Destination America is irresponsible. I’ve talked to many within the company who have no idea what their future holds and that’s not good business. Silence speaks volumes more often than not in the wrestling business when it comes to communicating with talent and of that I speak from extensive experience.”

Samoa Joe Returns To ROH On 6/20 For NYC TV Taping

Ring of Honor has announced that Samoa Joe will be working their June 20th television tapings from New York City at Terminal 5.

Joe will be teaming with IWGP Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles against ROH Tag Team Champions The Addiction, Daniels and Kazarian.

As noted earlier, Joe is currently working with WWE on a one-off basis, which gives him the ability to continue working for independent promotions.

Joe worked last week’s NXT TV tapings from Full Sail University, which air through June 17th.

Samoa Joe Talks About His Decision To Leave TNA

NXT star Samoa Joe appeared as a guest on Live Audio Wrestling this past Sunday evening to promote his appearance for Smash Wrestling in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Saturday, June 6th. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On his decision to leave TNA: “I think the decision was made in the final few weeks. I’ve often been called by people loyal to a fault, and I didn’t feel the mission was accomplished in TNA yet. I’d done my best throughout my career to help try to build the company and bring it into prominence. It’s had its ups and down and pitfalls here and there, and I don’t feel that job was finished yet. Towards the end there, there were some apparent things and incidents that kinda showed me that maybe it was time for me to move on and maybe it was better for me, both personally and professionally, to explore other options and explore other things. I’ve gotta admit, I’m not unhappy with my decision. I’m unhappy that I didn’t get the opportunity to kinda finish out what I wanted to start in TNA, but at the same time, so many great things have popped up since that I’m very, very satisfied with the decision that I made.”

On TNA’s identity as a promotion during his tenure: “I think at times TNA did have a defined identity, but the identity wasn’t really supported, and it was restarted in favor of something else they thought would be somewhat better or was pitched to them as being better. With the X-Division being what it was, the level of athleticism and the guys we had prominent in the company at the time, it very much did have an identity. And then somewhere along the line, that identity was kind of pushed to the background in favor of trying to be something that I feel it never should have gone to be. TNA was unique in that it had a very high-level athletic style, and at times I felt it was trying to be transformed into something more sports entertainment-ish, when we were definitely an alternative to that particular kind of style. As time when on, it ebbed and flowed, and it’ll come to the surface and then it’ll be pushed to the background. Wrestlers were cycled in and out, and creative teams were regularly cycled in and out. That’s I think where the identity started to get muddled.”

– Sami Zayn has resurfaced on Twitter for the first time since being taken out by Kevin Owens at the NXT Takeover: Unstoppable special on Wednesday. Zayn tweeted the following:

Mathews actually made a number of pretty arrogant comments, most of which ended up getting deleted. Below are a few quotes from Mathews’ Twitter timeline that were eventually deleted.

“I actually get paid in buckets of money. Salt wouldn’t do me much good.”

“Bitter??? I don’t know, I’m not! I enjoy large sums of $$$ put into my bank. Life is good, kid!”

“Thanks, Josh. It’s funny that I’m defending a company I believe in & made a simple point that people will vilify.”

“Easy, never “bashed” made an observation. Last time I checked that was allowed on my personal Twitter.”

“I FU****ING KNOW!!!!! I TALK ABOUT ALL WRESTLING COMPANIES ON MY SHOW!!! I TAP OUT!!!!! ENOUGH!!!!”

Finally, below are some of the comments that remain on Mathews’ timeline that deal with the Samoa Joe topic.

Josh Matthews Takes A Dig At WWE Over Samoa Joe’s Debut

TNA announcer Josh Matthews continues to vent his frustration over the way WWE does business.

Matthews, who has been outspoken about WWE on numerous occasions in recent months, tweeted a reaction to Samoa Joe’s NXT debut on Wednesday night at TakeOver: Unstoppable.

By all accounts, Joe’s debut was a mark-out moment that’s had wrestling fans giddy over his addition to the already-stacked NXT roster. Matthews, however took offense to the ‘sickening hypocrisy’ of how Joe’s debut was handled.
